The former is a remake of an old classic while the latter is a new model of a series from the old Nokia days. Now both devices are about to launch in China.

HMD Global is yet to announce a launch date for the two phones but it should not be far off seeing as they have both been spotted on the database of China’s TENAA. The phones are listed on TENAA as the Nokia TA-1311 and Nokia TA-1287 and they both run KaiOS (version 2.5.4.1, the operating system Nokia ships with its feature phones.

The Nokia 6300 4G has a 2.4-inch display that is powered by a 1500mAh removable battery. It has a Snapdragon 210 processor under the polycarbonate body, 512MB RAM, and 4GB of storage that can be expanded via a microSD card slot. The phone also has a VGA camera and a rear flashlight that doubles as the LED for the camera. Other features include FM radio, GPS, Bluetooth, dual SIM support, and an audio jack. The global version has Google Assistant on-board but we don’t expect the Chinese version to have that.

The Nokia 8000 4G, on the other hand, has a 2.8-inch 240 x 320 screen but the same Snapdragon 210 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. It has a 2MP rear camera and a flash. Its battery capacity is also 1500mAh and it is removable too. The TENAA listing says the phone will be available in China in Black, Blue, Gold, and White, the same colors the global version comes in.

This is a more affordable version of the Nokia Power Earbuds that was announced last year.

Nokia Power Earbuds Lite

The new Nokia Power Earbuds Lite keeps the design of the original. The tradeoffs include a significant reduction in total battery life from 150 hours on the Power Earbuds to 35 hours for the lite version.

That should not be a surprise as the battery capacity of the charging case of the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite is just 600mAh while the original has a 3000mAh battery capacity. The manufacturer says the earbuds will last 5 hours on a single charge and the case will provide up to 6 additional charges for the earbuds before it is empty. Another tradeoff is the switch to MicroUSB charging.

The earbuds feature 6mm graphene drivers, connect via Bluetooth 5.0, and weigh 48.4 grams with the charging case. The Nokia Power Earbuds Lite has an IPX7 rating and is waterproof up to 30 minutes in 1m of water. It also has touch controls.

The earbuds are available in Charcoal, Fjord, and Snow and come with three pairs of interchangeable tips in three sizes. A price tag was not revealed but it should sell for less than the €79 launch price of the Power Earbuds.

Talking about the Nokia Power Earbuds; HMD Global announced two new color variants for the earphones. In addition to Charcoal Black and Night Gray, it is now available in Polar Night and Mint too. The new colorways will be available next month.

Nokia Portable Wireless Speaker

HMD Global also announced the first Nokia Bluetooth speaker since taking over the brand. The Nokia Portable Wireless Speaker as it is called is shaped like a donut with a fabric-covered upper half and a plastic lower half. It comes in Black and has a strap to make it easy to carry around and also hang on hooks. The design reminds us of the Nest Mini speaker.

The lower half of the speaker is home to the volume control buttons, power button, play/pause button. The charging port is covered with a flap. With this design, the Nokia Portable Wireless Speaker should have an IP rating but it doesn’t, no thanks to the fabric top.

Nokia 2.4

The Nokia 2.4 continues the large-screen trend adopted by the Nokia 2.3. The screen is bigger now at 6.5-inches with an HD+ resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio. It keeps the waterdrop notch which houses a 5MP selfie camera.

The back of the phone has a 3D nano-textured design and is home to two cameras – a 13MP f/2.2 main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Sitting below the cameras is a fingerprint scanner. HMD Global says the phone has AI imaging, night mode, and a portrait mode with support for post-capture editing.

There is an Helio P22 processor under the hood paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. HMD Global says the 4500mAh inside the phone should provide a 2-day battery life. Sadly, there is no fast charging and it also comes with a MicroUSB port.

Other features of the phone include NFC, a dedicated Google Assistant button, FM radio, and Android 10. HMD Global says the phone is Android 11 ready and it will get OS upgrades for two years and security patches for three years.

The Nokia 2.4 comes in three colorways – Charcoal, Dusk, and Fjord – and is priced at €119 in Europe and $139 in the US. It will be available for purchase this month.

Nokia 3.4

The Nokia 3.4 is the first in the series to have a punch-hole display. The screen is a 6.39-inch HD+ panel with an 8MP camera in the top left corner.

There is a Snapdragon 460 processor with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage that can be expanded via a MicroSD card slot. The phone has three rear cameras arranged in a cookie-shaped housing. The setup includes a 13MP primary sensor, a 5MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. There is a fingerprint scanner under the cameras just like on the Nokia 2.4 and it also has a dedicated Google Assistant button.

The Nokia 3.4 has a 4000mAh battery capacity and should also last up to 2 days according to the manufacturer. Thankfully, it charges via a USB-C port. It also has an audio jack, an FM radio, and NFC.

The phone is priced at €159/$179 and will be available in Charcoal, Fjord, and Dusk in October.

Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer of HMD Global has taken to Twitter to announce that the manufacturer will be unveiling new Nokia phones on Tuesday, the 22nd of September. The event will be live-streamed and will begin at 4 PM BST.

Mark your calendars! On 22 September at 4pm GMT, we will announce a great new line-up of Nokia phones, competition giveaways, and a very special guest.

There is no teaser for what phones to expect on that day but a leak from earlier today said the Nokia 7.3 will be announced on September 22. However, since the tweet says there will be a new line-up of Nokia phones, we should expect other phones to tag along.

The Nokia 6.3 seems likely to launch on the same day seeing as HMD Global announced both the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2 together last year. However, the Nokia 6.3 is reported to be a 4G smartphone while the Nokia 7.3 is expected to have a 5G modem.

HMD Global may or may not announce new feature phones at the launch which is said will have “a very special guest”. We may also get new Nokia accessories too.

Today, it is the turn of the Nokia 3.1 Plus.

The Nokia 3.1 Plus was announced back in October 2018 with Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed. It later got upgraded to Android 9 Pie last year. The Android 10 update is its second OS upgrade. Going by the manufacturer’s promise of three years of software support, the Nokia 3.1 Plus should be eligible for Android 11 when it is released.

Android 10 brings new features such as Smart Reply, new gesture-based navigation, dark mode, and more. The changelog says the update comes with April 2020’s security patch. However, it is a bit heavy at 1.24GB.

The update is expected to roll-out to 10% of devices today, 50% by May 16, and 100% by May 18. If you do not get it today, you should receive it on or before next Monday.

The Nokia 3.1 Plus has a 6.0-inch display with an HD+ resolution. It is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor and comes in 2GB and 3GB RAM variants with up to 32GB of storage. There is a dedicated MicroSD card slot if you wish to add more storage.

Other features include a 13MP + 5MP dual-camera setup on the back, an 8MP selfie camera, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, FM radio, and a 3500mAh battery with support for 10W wired charging.

Earlier today, Xiaomi announced a price cut for the Mi A3, but if you will rather go with a different brand, then HMD Global Oy’s Nokia 7.2 or Nokia 6.2 are alternatives as the manufacturer has also announced permanent price cuts for the two devices.

Starting with the Nokia 6.2, the phone is now available for purchase at offline partner stores for INR 12,499 (~$175), which is INR 3500 (~$49) off its original launch price in October 2019.

$175 seems like a more reasonable price for a phone with a 6.3-inch FHD+ display with a Snapdragon 636 processor inside it. It has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, triple rear cameras with a 16MP + 8MP + 5MP configuration, and an 8MP selfie camera. You also get a 3500mAh battery, fingerprint scanner, and a dedicated Google Assistant button.

The more powerful Nokia 7.2 will sell for INR 15,499 (~$217) for the 4GB + 64GB version. That is a reduction of INR 4500 off its launch price. If you want more RAM, then the 6GB + 64GB version which had a launch price of INR19,599 (~$275) can now be bought for INR 17,099 (~$240).

The Nokia 7.2 has a 6.3-inch FHD+ screen with Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by the Snapdragon 660 and also packs a 3500mAh battery. There are three cameras on the back too but it has a 48MP primary camera while the selfie camera is a 20MP sensor. You get a dedicated Google Assistant button, USB Type-C, an audio jack, a fingerprint scanner, and Dual-SIM support.

The two phones launched with Android 9 Pie out of the box but they will get three years of OS upgrades and security updates. Android 10 should be made available for both devices soon.

Ahead of the event, a Nokia phone with model number TA-1207 has been certified and there are speculations it may be the Nokia 1 (2020) a.k.a. Nokia 1.3.

The phone was certified by the FCC and the documents reveal the phone measures 146.56 x 70.46 millimeters. Based on this dimensions, the device is believed to have a screen size between 5.7 and 5.8-inches. FCC also revealed it packs a 2920mAh battery (rated 3000mAh).

The device is believed to be the new Nokia 1 because it is the only other entry level Nokia phone that is due for a successor. The Nokia 2 series already got a new model last month and the Nokia 3 series isn’t due for a successor yet, and even if it is, it will not get a smaller display since the Nokia 3.2 has a 6.26-inch screen.

The Nokia 1.3 is not only expected to come with a bigger battery and screen but should also come with improved cameras and run Android 10 (Go Edition) out of the box.

That is the penta-camera setup with a whopping five cameras at the rear and two cameras for selfies, making a total of seven cameras. The camera samples we’ve seen clearly show this setup isn’t a gimmick. But that isn’t the only spectacular thing about the Nokia flagship. Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything fame has now subjected the Nokia 9 to his famous durability test and it passed!

Nokia’s towering reputation has its basis on the solid build the company’s mobile phones were known for even before the Android era. The Nokia 9 PureView indeed keeps to that reputation going by the durability test result.

EDITOR’S PICK: Honor’s Smart Screen will have a 55-inch Display with a Pop-Up Camera

The test begins with the scratch test using the Moh’s hardness scale. The scratch test doesn’t really reveal anything out of the ordinary. Since there is a Gorilla Glass protection over the screen, the device will scratch at similar levels on the Mohs hardness scale. The device was also subjected to the rather pointless flame test which turns the AMOLED pixels white after around thirty seconds, and they never fully recover.

The one that interests us the most is the bend test. The Nokia 9 PureView glass panel holds on solidly when pressure is applied on the back and front. The glass at the back slightly separates from the frame when the pressure is increased, perhaps due to weak adhesive but there is no irreversible damage to the phone. The screen still works fine.

A revised report from Counterpoint Research has revealed that HMD Global Oy sold over 4 million smartphones in the last quarter of 2017.

The figure which is actually 4.4 million puts Nokia at the 11th spot in the top smartphone companies with a market share of 1%. It also means that Nokia sold more phones in that quarter than a lot more other brands. Below is a list of manufacturers that sold less devices than HMD:

HTC

Sony

Google

Alcatel

Lenovo

OnePlus

Gionee

Meizu

Coolpad

ASUS

HMD Global also set some records with the Nokia brand in the last quarter. For example, it was the No.1 phone brand (smartphone and feature phone) in Vietnam and many Middle Eastern markets. It was also the 3rd smartphone brand in the the UK and among the top 5 in Russia.

According to Neil Shah who is a partner at Counterpoint Research and who revealed the stats in a Twitter thread, HMD also increased Nokia’s share of the feature phone market to 15% making it the No.1 feature phone brand globally. Combine that with its 1% share of the smartphone market and Nokia clinches a 5% mobile phone share and lands at No. 6 globally.

HMD Global Oy has done well with the Nokia brand within a year but there is still more to be done especially in the smartphone segment. Neil Shah suggests a focus in places like Asia, Europe and MEA in 2018. He also advises they come up with a more-focused strategy for Latin America in H2 2018 and H1 2019 so as to challenge Motorola and Samsung

HMD Global Oy has done well with its revival of the Nokia brand. It has launched a total of 6 new smartphones powered by Android under the famous Nokia brand name. However, availability of these phones have been limited to certain offline and online retailers and network operators.

HMD Global has officially announced the opening of the online Nokia store which will allow customers purchase directly from the manufacturer. The online store currently only serves Great Britain, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain.

At the moment, you can only purchase the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and Nokia 8. There are also a number of cases available for purchase for the Nokia 3, 5, and 6. The store’s homepage says classic phones like the Nokia 3310 (2017) will be available in December, 2017.

HMD Global is running a promo on the store, probably to mark the opening. If you purchase the Nokia 8, you stand a chance to win a round trip ticket for two to Los Angeles which includes a studio tour to Warner Bros and a four night hotel stay. You can also win a Justice League Stunt Experience in Berlin for you and a friend. There are also smaller gifts like Justice League t-shirts and travel flasks.

In addition to the above, from the beginning of the month till the 10th, those who buy the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 will get a free case with their order. If you live in the European countries above, you can give the site a tour here.

There is no mention as to when the store will begin to serve other countries but we want to believe HMD Global is already working on it.

Looks like HMD has mooted the idea of borrowing some features from the defunct Nokia Lumia phones. One of such features which would be included in future Nokia phones is the Lumia Camera UI. The inclusion of the camera UI was disclosed by Nokia’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas who hinted at the development on Twitter.

A recent report had revealed that Microsoft transferred about 500 Nokia patents to HMD Global and the Lumia Camera UI was one of such patent revealed via the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Microsoft acquired Nokia’s devices business for $7.2 billion in 2013. By then, Nokia was already swimming in troubled waters, facing financial difficulties as a result of a late transition to Android phones. Although Microsoft had hoped to turn around the fortunes of the company, that didn’t happen as the Lumia brand just refused to fly. Microsoft had to let go of the excess luggage the Nokia brand had turned into and in came HMD Global Oy, a Finnish phone maker.

Read Also: Nokia 8 Teardown – Not Easy to Repair, But Display, Battery & Rear Cameras Can Be Replaced

The Lumia Camera UI is reputed to be one of the most intuitive camera app around. It debuted on the Nokia Lumia 1020 back in July 2013 and has a bunch of manual controls to enhance image results. It included adjustments such as shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, night and sports and white balance among various others. These key advancements would give a competitive edge especially to the Nokia 8 that has a dual-camera setup with Carl Zeiss optics. No word yet as to when the rollout of the UI on Nokia phones would commence.

Elop is credited to have ended his speech amidst tears with the following words, “We didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost.” While the speech is a subject for debate if Nokia actually did nothing wrong, what is important at this point is that Nokia looks to be back to winning ways since the resurgence of the brand under HMD Global Oy.

Nokia re-entered the smartphone market with the launch of the Nokia 6 mid-range smartphone in China on January 20, 2017. The Nokia 6 was an instant hit, selling out in its first sales with sales hitting over a million units. Since then, the tech giant has gone on to release the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and even a remodelled Nokia 3310 feature phone. Nokia has also released its first flagship phone, Nokia 8 which features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. In case you are wondering how well the HMD Global-controlled Nokia brand is faring in sales and popularity, the company’s Chief Marketing Officer Pekka Rentala has revealed that since the announcement of the Nokia 6 at MWC 2017 in Barcelona, it has sold “millions” smartphones and “tens of millions” features phones. The official confirmation came on September 2nd and covers all four Nokia smartphones on sale.

Related: Finland Gets The Nokia 8 With 6GB of RAM and 128GB of Storage

This lends credence to a recent report by research firm IDC which states that Nokia phones are selling well. IDC estimates that the Nokia brand already ranks number 5 in Finland and has a 0.4% global market share. The agency says Nokia smartphone sales stood at 1.5 million for the first half of the year. A former Nokia staff and researcher Tomi Ahohen has thus put the figures together to come up with a breakdown for the four quarters that make up this year, including a forecast of sales for Q4 2017. The figures are listed below.

The analyst added IDC’s estimate for the first half and then revealed that Nokia sold 2.5 million units globally in the third quarter. Using the expectation that holiday sales are usually higher, coupled with the new Nokia 8 models the tech giant recently added, sales are expected to peak at 3.5 million in Q4. That brings the possibility of sales hitting 10 million units in 2017. We’ll have to wait till the first quarter of next year to get the official figures. No doubt, Nokia would be enthusiastic to share the analysis especially if sales are favourable.

The company has already released the Nokia 3, 5 and Nokia 6 along with the revamped Nokia 3310 into the market and the result has been tremendous. In a couple of months time, the company will add the Nokia 8 to its lineup and from the look of things, there will be much more in the near future.

A recent report has revealed that Microsoft has ceded about 500 Nokia patents to HMD Global. Microsoft has to let go of the excess luggage the Nokia brand was turning into and in came HHMD Global Oy, a Finnish phone maker. A couple of months after, Microsoft is revealed to have turned in around 500 patents for the Nokia which is in its possession.

The information scooped from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) shows some of the patents now controlled by HMD Global that were formerly under Microsoft’s control. One of the prominent patents is the Lumia Camera UI which is reputed to be one of the most intuitive camera app around. HMD only has the license to use the Nokia brand name for 10 years, let’s see how they will put these patent to use before their time runs out. Ten years is a long time to turn around the fortunes of a company and they have shown their ability to do just that with the products released so far.

Mark your calendars, set your reminders, and do what else needs to be done so you don’t miss any of the action. It’s the MWC week and things are about to get really exciting. Quite a number of us can’t make it to Barcelona but that doesn’t mean we can’t follow the event in real-time. So we have made a schedule of the major launch events, so you don’t miss anything.

The event officially opens on Monday, 27th of February and will run through to Thursday, 2nd of March but quite a number of launches are slated to occur today and tomorrow. So you should not be surprised that the schedule begins today.

Day 1: Saturday, February 25

TCL (BlackBerry): BlackBerry has shut down its hardware manufacturing phones. But there will still be new phones released by the company. What it has done is to license the name to a number of manufacturers such as China’s TCL and India’s Optiemus Infracom. However, today’s launch is by TCL and they are expected to launch the BlackBerry Mercury.Time: 7:00 PM CET, 11:30 PM IST, 10:00 AM PST, and 1:00 PM EST.

Day 2: Sunday, February 26

LG is expected to launch its latest flagship tomorrow, the LG G6.
Time is as follows: 12:00 PM CET; 4:30 PM IST; 3:00 AM PST; and 6:00 AM EST.

Huawei’s launch comes after and like they have announced themselves, it is for the Huawei P10. The launch should also include the P10 Plus and P10 Lite.
Time: 2:00 PM CET; 6:30 PM IST; 5:00 AM PST; and 8:00 AM EST.

HMD Global (Nokia): New Nokia licensee, HMD Global has scheduled its launch for tomorrow as well. We expect the Finnish company to announce the Nokia 3, the Nokia 5 and a new Nokia 3310.
Time: 4:30 PM CET; 9:00 PM IST; 7:30 AM PST; and 10:30 AM EST.

Motorola/Lenovo: If you are in Barcelona already, you will have to choose which event to attend between Motorola and HMD Global’ events as both are happening at the same time. For those at home, you can just have two windows open and read/watch the event. Lenovo is expected to launch the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. There is no much excitement there as basically all info about both devices have been leaked already.
Time: 4:30 PM CET; 9:00 PM IST; 7:30 AM PST; and 10:30 AM EST.

Samsung: Closing the day is Samsung with the launch of the Galaxy Tab S3.
Time: 7:00 PM CET; 11:30 PM IST; 10:00 AM PST; and 1:00PM EST.

Nubia: ZTE’s sub-brand Nubia is expected to release a new smartphone. There are no known details about the phone and the exact day of launch. So we guess we have to wait till tomorrow to find out what it is.

Day 3: Monday, February 27

Sony: Sony kicks off the day with the launch of up to five Xperia phones including the Xperia X2.
Time: 8:30 AM CET; 1:00 PM IST; 11:30 PM PST (26th); and 2:30 AM EST.

TCL (Alcatel): TCL continues its launch with another phone but under the Alcatel brand. The new phone is said to be modular, so you might want to keep a tab on this.
Time: 9:30 AM CET; 2:00PM IST; 12:30 AM PST; and 3:30 AM EST.

OPPO: Chinese manufacturer OPPO has also confirmed it will be at MWC. The teaser suggests we will see a camera-centric phone with a 5X optical zoom. There is no info on the time.

Vernee: Another Chinese manufacturer attending MWC is Vernee. The devices expected to be announced include the Vernee Thor Plus; Thor E; Apollo 2 which is said to be the first Helio X30 and 8GB smartphone; Apollo X; and Mars Pro. There is also no time info for this launch.

Day 4: Tuesday, February 28

Meizu: Meizu teased a few days ago that it will be present at MWC 2017. The teaser hints at a fast charging technology, so we are not expecting any new phone. Some of their recent launches will however, be on display.
Time: 10:00 AM CET; 2:30 PM IST; 1:00 AM PST; and 4:00 AM EST.

That’s all for the major events but trust that there will be tons of other exciting stuff at the event and we sure will cover them.

The device whose model number is stated as TA-1000 has its charging specification as 5V/2A and its manufacturer as HMD Global Oy. The factory is also listed as FIH Precision Electronics Co. Ltd which is the Foxconn subsidiary serving as production partner.

The Nokia E1 is said to have a 5.5-inch display, 1GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 200 SoC, and runs Android 7.0.1 Nougat. A sketch of the phone leaked online recently shows the phone sporting capacitive keys, a front facing camera positioned at the top left and a Nokia logo at the top right corner. Volume rocker and power button are on the right hand side and the camera and LED flash are positioned in the middle of the phone.

With specs like that, Nokia better price the E1 at less than a $100 because it’s hard to imagine anyone shelling out more than that for a phone with 1GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 200 processor.

According to the release, the license is a global one that spans the entire world with the exception of only Japan. The license gives HMD the exclusive right to use the Nokia brand name on mobile phones and tablets for the period of the license. The press release also disclosed that Nokia will get royalty payments from HMD for every Nokia branded phone and tablet sold and the royalty covers both brand and intellectual property rights.

This announcement is coming less than six months after the Finnish company was revealed to have signed a strategic licensing agreement with Nokia to have the rights to release Nokia branded phones for the next decade. The announcement then, could be an indication that the company is ready to kick-start the release of smartphones and tablets that would signal the grand entry of the Nokia brand into the market under HMD’s leadership.

The company has hired a couple of former Nokia Execs in its bid to re-jig the ailing giant which still has a large follower-ship worldwide. HMD global Oy is expected to unveil its first Nokia-branded phones at MWC 2017. The expected phones have appeared in leaks recently, better recalled as Nokia D1C and latest rumor hints at the existence of two variants of the device. The company is also expected to release feature phones, tablets and a host of other products in due course.

A Nokia Exec had also hinted earlier on that the Nokia Android phones may likely pop in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year.

Well, we just might see that happen soon as two new Nokia smartphones running on Android operating system has appeared on Benchmark website Geekbench revealing some of the specs which isn’t in any way similar to the few rumored specs we had gotten before now.

The Nokia smartphones bore the model names, Nokia 5320 and Nokia RM-1490. Nokia 5320 is listed as sporting a 2.27GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. The clocking frequency of the Nokia 5320 resembles that of a high-end chipset but the small RAM size is a turn off. Perhaps it is possible to ramp up the RAM size in the coming days since this is just a prototype. The Nokia 5320 is also listed to run on Android 4.4.4 operating system which is quite weird.

On the other hand, the Nokia RM-1490 is listed as featuring a single core AMD A8-5545M chipset clocked at a miserable 500MHz. The RM-1490 also clutches a 2GB RAM as the Nokia 5320. The Android phone is listed to run on an even older Android 4.2.2 operating system.

Related: Android-based Nokia Phones with 2k Display, SD 820 SoC Leaked

This is all the details we have for now, that is as bad as it can get. The leaked Benchmark data ended up confusing us the more instead of throwing more light on the expected Nokia Android smartphones. We hope more leaks detailing the Nokia branded Android phones emerge soon. Like always, we’ll keep you posted here on Gizmochina whenever that happens.

Does “Angry Birds” ring a bell? Rovio is the Finnish company that developed the Angry Birds franchise and that is what it is best know for. The thing is, HMD Global Oy, who now has control over the feature phones business of Nokia, has disclosed that it has hired Pekka Rantala, a former CEO of Angry Birds maker Rovio as its Chief Marketing Officer.

The new Chief Marketing Officer was also a former Nokia, having worked for the company from 1994 to 2011. Mr Rantala is said to have joined Rovio as CEO in 2015 but left the Finland based company just a year later. The new exec joins another Nokia veteran, Arto Nummela, who runs HMD Global Oy.

HMD is yet to offer specific details of how it plans to bring back the Nokia brand into the market. The deal with Nokia, provides the company with naming and patent rights, in exchange for royalty payments. Nokia is providing some oversight via a position on the company’s board, though it’s not investing directly in HMD, as per the deal.

What we know before now is the rumor that the Nokia Android powered phones will be manufactured by Foxconn. It has now emerged that Foxconn’s subsidiary, FIH Mobile will likely handle the manufacture and distribution of the two expected Android Nokia phones but the time-table for that wasn’t disclosed.

However, Nokia Networks China and Shangai Bell CEO Mike Wang has hinted in an interview that the expected Nokia branded Android phones and even tablets will likely hit the market by the fourth quarter of this year. The CEO also disclosed Nokia will have to go through brand licensing again after its ill-fated contract with Microsoft expires.

Read More: Nokia Phone could be made by Foxconn, Featuring Camera made of Graphene

As a reminder, the expected Nokia phones comes with a 5.2-inch and 5.5-inch AMOLED display sizes respectively, both of which will have 2k resolution. The phones are said to boot Android 7.0 Nougat with Nokia’s own Z-Launcher UI on top. All-metal design, camera made of graphene, Snapdragon 820 chipset and IP68 dust and water protection, form the highlight we know so far about the expected Android phones. The phones are rumored to fall within 3000 Yuan ($453) price range and would likely make their first appearance in China when launched.
