Vivo X100 Pro disappoints in stress test, the Dimensity 9300 could be to blame

The Vivo X100 Pro flagship smartphone was put under a stress test recently, which showed some bleak figures. Although, the issue could be rooted in the device’s SoC, which is MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300.

Vivo X100 Pro takes a massive performance hit in stress test

For those unaware, the X100 Pro is a high end device and the Dimensity 9300 is the chipmaker’s latest flagship processor. However, the smartphone was recently put through a stress test by Sahil Karoul (Via NotebookCheck), who shared the results on X. During the test, it was found that the X100 Pro faced a notable thermal throttling, with a massive drop in performance.

Vivo X100 Pro

The Dimensity 9300 on the device throttled down to just 46 percent of its max performance after just two minutes of the benchmark. Due to this throttling issue, the performance on one of the cores dropped down to 0.6GHz (max clock speed of 3.25GHz). A separate NotebookCheck report talked about how the Dimensity 9300 doesn’t feature any efficiency cores, which could lead to throttling since the high powered cores (Cortex-X4) draws more power.

While this enables impressive raw performance, the downsize was the thermals. So this stress test might be reflecting that. But keep in mind that a stress test is just to check the CPU’s performance on high loads and does not directly reflect real world performance. Everyday users would typically never hit such extreme loads.

Secret Surveillance Program Allowed AT&T and US Government to Track Americans’ Calls

Keeping our personal information private is very important to many of us. But in today’s digital world, it’s hard to say we’re doing a great job of it. All of our information is online, either because we put it there or not. Of course, this information isn’t in immediate danger. After all, the companies that have our information and the government are supposed to protect it, right? Well, it seems that’s not always the case. An investigation shows that AT&T and the US government have been spying on millions of Americans for years. Here are the details…

Investigation reveals AT&T and US government have been spying on millions of Americans for years

In the pursuit of crime prevention and culprit identification, would you be bothered by phone tapping? After all, you haven’t committed any crimes, right? So, there’s nothing to worry about. This reasoning is often used by individuals and countries worldwide to justify civilian surveillance when it comes to fighting crime. It appears that the U.S. government is no exception, and it’s even partnering with AT&T, the country’s largest telecommunications provider, for this purpose.

AT&T

The government’s partnership with AT&T has resulted in the Data Analytical Services or DAS, a telecommunications surveillance program. This program allows federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to access information from Americans’ phone calls. DAS is the largest telephone record collection program known to date, gathering over a trillion call records annually.

The DAS program receives funding from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, with over $6.1 million allocated since 2013. Notably, the program has faced scrutiny from Senator Ron Wyden and privacy advocates, who claim it infringes on Americans’ privacy rights and lacks legal authorization. Despite these challenges, the White House contends that the program is crucial for law enforcement efforts to investigate and prevent crime.

The program’s future is uncertain, with Senator Wyden introducing legislation to shut it down, though passage remains uncertain. The Biden administration is currently reviewing the program, and a decision about its continuation is pending. In the words of a memorable line from the TV series “Person of Interest,” it’s certain that, “you are being watched.”

Nvidia faces setback as the launch of China-focused AI Chip, H20, delayed amid integration challenges

Nvidia, the California-based AI chip giant, has announced a delay in the launch of its highly anticipated China-focused AI chip, H20. Initially slated for release on November 16, the company has pushed the launch to the first quarter of the following year, with insiders suggesting a potential unveiling in February or March. The setback is reportedly linked to challenges faced by server manufacturers in seamlessly integrating the H20 chip into their systems.

Anonymous sources, citing confidentiality concerns, revealed that Nvidia has refrained from commenting on the delay. The H20 chip is part of Nvidia’s strategic move to comply with new U.S. export regulations, reflecting the company’s efforts to maintain a foothold in the Chinese market after facing restrictions on certain product shipments. The delay has resulted in a 1.9% drop in Nvidia’s shares, impacting the market on a shortened U.S. trading day.

In addition to H20, Nvidia is concurrently developing two other chips, L20 and L2, designed to adhere to the updated U.S. export rules. While the launch of L20 is reportedly unaffected and proceeding as scheduled, no information is available regarding the status of the L2 chip.

Nvidia’s A800 and H800 chips were introduced as alternatives for Chinese customers in November 2022, following the initial ban on exports of advanced microchips and equipment to China. These new chips, including H20, L20, and L2, incorporate Nvidia’s latest AI features, albeit with adjusted computing power to align with the stringent U.S. regulations.

The delayed H20 chip launch poses a potential setback for Nvidia, whose GPUs traditionally dominate the AI market. The U.S. export restrictions have opened opportunities for competitors like Huawei to secure orders that might have otherwise gone to Nvidia. Notably, Chinese tech giant Baidu has reportedly placed a substantial order for Huawei AI chips, possibly anticipating future procurement challenges from Nvidia due to U.S. restrictions.

Nvidia, having reported a remarkable tripling of revenue in the September quarter, issued a cautionary note, indicating that sales in regions affected by export restrictions are expected to “decline significantly” in the current quarter.

As the company navigates these challenges, the spotlight remains on the forthcoming releases of L20 and L2 chips, which are pivotal to Nvidia’s strategy in adapting to the evolving landscape of U.S.-China trade relations.

Samsung’s Galaxy A15 5G Redefines Budget Phones with $139 OLED

Samsung continues to expand its product lineup, catering to every budget with a range of phones. While the company is gearing up for the Galaxy S24 series, it also introduces affordable models like the Galaxy A05. Now, a new addition to these models is the Galaxy A15 5G, featuring a notable characteristic that we usually associate with “high-end” phones. Here are the details…

Samsung’s Galaxy A15 5G Shines with OLED, Priced at Just $139

Although Samsung is the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, the company is more than just that; it has a complex structure with various departments. One such department is Samsung Display, responsible for producing screens for both Samsung and competitors like Apple, giving the company a unique position in the tech world.

Samsung Galaxy A15 5G Walmart listing

It seems that Samsung Display has managed to reduce costs so significantly that even entry-level phones will soon come with OLED displays. The first example of this is the Galaxy A15 5G. The company had already surprised everyone by using OLED displays in the Galaxy A1X and A2X models earlier this year. However, there has been silence on this front since those models.

Now, a market chain in the United States that sells technological products, Walmart, has revealed the features of the Galaxy A15 5G, including its OLED display, in a listing. According to the information, the phone’s launch price will be $139, approximately 4,000 TL. Despite this low price, it will feature a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display.

On the processor side, the phone will be equipped with a MediaTek chipset, likely the Dimensity 6100 Plus, although it’s not confirmed. It will also have 4 GB RAM and expandable 128 GB internal storage via a MicroSD card.

The Galaxy A15 5G, expected to attract attention with its camera performance, comes with a triple setup: a 50-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. On the front, there’s a 13-megapixel selfie camera. The potential battery size is 5,000mAh, and it supports 25W fast charging. The exact release date is unknown, but it is expected to hit shelves shortly after Samsung’s announcement in the coming days.
