New Infinix phone could be a Nothing Phone (2) copycat, Carl Pei readying the lawyers

When an innovative product hits the market, everyone wants to copy it or at least take inspiration from it. Nothing’s smartphones, while not very different from other Android phones in terms of hardware, feature a unique transparent design clad with LED lights. So far, the London-based startup is the only one to release such phones, but it may soon have a competitor—or should we say, copycat? Infinix is reportedly working on a new smartphone that could look just like the recently released Phone (2).

The Phone could launch next month with GT series branding

Tipster Mukul Sharma tweeted that Infinix is preparing a new smartphone under a new GT-branded lineup. The phone is said to be inspired by the much-hyped Nothing Phone (2). Sharma also shared a render of the alleged handset, which shows markings that look similar to the Glyph Interface on Nothing phones.

Infinix Nothing Phone (2) copycat
Infinix Nothing Phone (2) copycat (Third from the right)

The image does not make it clear whether the phone will have a transparent back like the Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2). But the tipster says this Infinix smartphone will be launched in the gaming-oriented category and will be priced “much less” than the recently released Nothing phone.

While this is all interesting news, it seems that Infinix could get into legal trouble for copying the Phone (2). Carl Pei, the CEO of the London-based startup, replied to Sharma’s tweet and said he is readying up his lawyers. It is possible that Pei was joking, as he also added a laughing emoticon. However, it is certain that Nothing has patented the Glyph Interface on its phones, so if a company is copying it, they could easily be dragged into court.

Tesla cars have become incredibly popular in the US and China. Led by the notorious billionaire Elon Musk, Tesla has become the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer. However, the company has yet to expand to many important markets. In a step in the right direction, it appears that the US automaker will soon set up a factory in India with an annual capacity of 500,000 vehicles. The company plans to sell these cars at a starting price of ₹20 lakh, according to a report.

Tesla could also export cars from India

The US giant plans to produce up to 500,000 electric vehicles (EVs) annually, with prices starting at ₹20 lakhs, according to the report, which cites government sources. The Indian Commerce and Industry Ministry is reported to be leading the talks this time, and it wants to put together a “good deal” while maintaining a level playing field.

Tesla India factory

Tesla’s entry in India could give the country’s EV market a significant boost and the consumers more varied options to choose from. The India electric vehicle market size was USD 1.45 billion in 2021, which grew to $3.21 billion in 2022, according to Fortune Business Insights.

Tesla not only wants to manufacture cars in India but it also wants to export them to other Indo-Pacific countries, reports TOI. Quick Take: ASUS ROG Ally is the Xbox Handheld Console we never got

What if I told you, that there is an Xbox handheld console out there but it wasn’t made by Microsoft? Meet the ASUS ROG Ally, the Windows-based portable gaming system that is the closest we will ever get to an Xbox handheld console. The Steam Deck showed us that a handheld outside of Nintendo’s closed ecosystem has great potential and the ROG Ally is the closest one to try and capture this space.

What Makes the ASUS ROG Ally Special?

Simply put, the ROG Ally is a handheld gaming PC that runs on Microsoft’s Windows 11. It is an official third-party licensed Xbox handheld console that is capable of running AAA titles from a number of gaming libraries. Many have been calling the ROG Ally an Xbox Portable thanks to the support for the Xbox PC Game Pass alone. So, it’s more of an obvious statement than a hot take about this being an Xbox handheld.

Asus

But while the Xbox console lineup has been struggling these past few years, the ROG Ally has already started to carve out its own presence in the gaming market. With RGB lighting, Dolby Atmos speakers, and a robust cooling mechanism, it is also quite close to a gaming laptop. But the Xbox controller-style gamepad is probably its biggest giveaway.

An Xbox Console and Windows Gaming PC in One

The ASUS ROG Ally isn’t just an Xbox handheld console because of the official licensing. The Taiwanese tech giant’s new gadget brings a highly requested Xbox-exclusive feature that isn’t found in any Windows PC (Laptops & Desktops), which is called Quick Resume. This simple feature has been available on the latest generation of gaming consoles from Microsoft, namely Xbox Series X and Series S for some time now.

It basically lets you jump in and out of games, putting the ones you left on hold. When returning, you start from exactly where you left off, even if you have the console in rest mode. This eliminates any of the pesky loading time or intro screens and gets you right back into the fun zone. Unlike Valve’s Steam Deck, which is limited to the Steam library, the ROG Ally arrives with support for multiple stores like Epic Games, Steam, and the Game Pass.

Microsoft

So your existing accounts on these platforms are instantly accessible and all the games you own can be launched from this portable platform. With gamers now having to contend with so many game launchers, this is one of the devices that actually supports them just like a Windows PC. Since ASUS ROG Ally runs on the Windows operating system, the compact gaming console is a full-fledged PC as well. It brings a true Windows 11 experience, thanks to its desktop interface that includes a taskbar and Start Menu.

But is Xbox Portable worth the buy?

For those shifting from console gaming to PC gaming, this acts as the perfect middle ground to ease into the vast options that will be presented to them. One can easily be overwhelmed by these options. The ROG Ally is one of the most powerful handheld consoles in the market and outperforms the likes of Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. In other words, you can have a smooth AAA gaming experience on the go without relying on any game streaming services.

Having a Windows PC in such a small form factor sounds quite handy, but there are some caveats. The challenge ASUS faces by using Windows is that the operating system was never really designed for a portable console, so there are still some annoying issues that you might face like permissions popping up. These are also difficult to deal with on such a small display. The platform always had a UI that focused on cursor first, and touch second.

Putting all these nitpicks aside, the ROG Ally is definitely a great option to consider if you’re in the market for a handheld gaming console in 2023.

Asus acknowledges ROG Ally MicroSD reader heating issue, offers RMA & updates to fix

Asus has entered the handheld gaming console market with its new device, the Asus ROG Ally, aiming to compete with Valve’s Steam Deck. While the console offers impressive performance, it appears that Asus made a design mistake, resulting in numerous reports of the MicroSD cards getting damaged or rendered unusable by the device.

Asus

According to a TomsHardware report, the ROG Ally’s microSD card reader area of the ROG Ally’s PCB is getting hot enough to damage microSD cards designed to withstand temperatures of up to 185ºF (85ºC). So what’s the root cause of this? YouTuber CPPC TEK has answered this question pointing to the fact that the MicroSD card reader is positioned too close to the power delivery VRMs, which feed the AMD APU.

Asus
Image via iFixit

An Asus exec has also confirmed the issue, with a post revealing the official statement of the company on the matter. It reads ” We want to thank the community for the passionate response we’ve received for the ROG Ally. Your support has been both immense and invaluable, so we’ve been hard at work to improve a number of things. After confirmation from internal testing, under certain thermal stress conditions, the SD card reader may malfunction. To alleviate the issue, we will be releasing an update that further fine-tunes the default and minimum fan speeds on the device to improve reliability while keeping fan noise in check, as we know this is a concern for many of you. If you are currently experiencing issues with your SD card reader, please contact cl- [email protected] (US) or contact customer service for your region to RMA your unit, which we will inspect for any issues and repair.”

In simpler words, Asus is pushing an update that increases the default fan speeds of the console to help keep the SD card reader from overheating. As a consequence, users can expect the fan noise of the console to increase. That being said, users whose consoles have already been damaged won’t benefit from this update as the brand has asked them to send in their consoles in for RMA.

Mojawa Run Plus Bone-conduction Headphones Review: The Ideal Sports & Waterproof Headphones for 2023

Mojawa Run Plus

Bone-conduction headphones have been a big hit in the fitness niche for years due to their unique fit. Unlike traditional earbuds, these headphones do not need to be tucked into ears or block the ears from the air, which makes them a safer and more comfortable option for workouts. The excellent spatial awareness that bone conduction models provide is also an important feature in the competition to beat traditional earbuds.

In fact, there is a constant stream of products in this kind on the market, but so far none of them seem to strike the best balance in all aspects, and many users are still not sure how to make their choices. So today we are gonna talk about a rising player, the brand Mojawa. It was founded by a former Apple scientist, aiming to bring innovation and competition to the sector. The Mojawa guys must well know the pain points and most of their headphones are pretty special. For example, the Mojawa Run Plus headphone we are gonna talk about is definitely something that turns heads.

Design

The packaging is pretty solid in a premium design, very impressive at first glance. In addition to the headset itself, we also get a number of useful accessories.

The model we received had a black and grey color scheme, but if you prefer more vibrant styles, there will be blue, white, and orange options released for you later in this month.

The band of the Run Plus headphones is made of titanium, adding durability and reducing the weight to a mere 29 grams. It has a slightly rubberized texture, making it resistant to cracking and bending.

The ‘headphone’ body is made of a low-sheen plastic material, which might attract fingerprints. So do the touchable pads, which we will discuss further. Overall, the Mojawa Run Plus applies a classical bone-conduction design that we’re pretty familiar with. It features a lobe that sits behind the ear, with the bone conduction element looping over the ear.

Sound Quality & Waterproof

Run Plus is recommended by 5 Grammy-winning audio producers and offers an unprecedented level of sound quality in the bone conduction headphones industry. For the first time, you can enjoy clear and vibrant conversations, laughter in podcasts, and all kinds of music.

This remarkable achievement is made possible by Mojawa’s two groundbreaking proprietary technologies: The World’s First Dual Suspension Anchor System and the Original Physical Bass Strengthening Technology. The Run Plus headphones performed well on tracks with a good balance between treble and bass with good detail.

They produce deep and resonant bass that can be felt on an expansive and intricate soundstage. This does give it an outstanding bass performance of its kind. Switching to the “Bass” mode in the companion app added a bit more depth to the lower frequencies.

Mojawa Run Plus is the Best Waterproof headphone for 2023. It is a great companion for intense workouts with IP68-rated waterproofness. And we think it probably is the best headphones to wear for swimming, running, cycling, gym sessions, fitness activities, and various outdoor pursuits. Wearing these waterproof headphones while swimming is a completely different experience. It’s probably the first time I was free to enjoy my favorite tracks, podcasts, and audiobooks while swimming, loud and clear without any worries.

I think the Mojawa Run Plus offers a truly irreplaceable and excellent experience in this regard, and it’s even as important as the sweet sound quality because traditional wireless headphones do not even work properly in many sports scenarios, especially water sports, so usability should be the first thing to consider when we talk about headphones for sports.

Wearing experience

Upon wearing the headphones, we noticed a small gap between the band and the back of our head. However, this kind of headphones relies on the tension of the band to hold them in place. We found that the tension struck a good balance between security and comfort. When working out, the headphones sometimes slightly slipped down a bit, getting the band into contact with my neck. But thankfully, the rubber coating prevented any irritation and didn’t cause any discomfort.

The Run Plus headphones are fully waterproof and have an IP68 rating, allowing it to be worn while swimming up to a depth of two meters. This feature will appeal to those who want to enjoy music during their pool workouts. Additionally, the headphones can be easily rinsed off after particularly sweaty sessions thanks to the fully waterproof design.

Interaction

To power on the headphones, you need to hold down the left conduction pad, which doubles as a button. The device vocally announces the remaining charge and the status of the Bluetooth connection.

We found that if the headphones had already been paired with a nearby smartphone, the connection was almost instant. Pairing to a new phone was also easy and straightforward, requiring only one click of the device from the phone’s list.

It’s quite convenient to have multiple controls with the touchpad and multifunction button. It allows users to skip tracks, adjust the volume, and call out their phone’s virtual assistant.

Another great bonus is that the Run Plus headphones come with 32GB of onboard memory. Users can save up to 8,000 tracks locally without phones’ storage. Adding music to the headphones is as simple as plugging them into a computer or phone and dragging and dropping audio files onto the device.

Battery & Charging

The battery life of the Run Plus headphones is claimed to be 8 hours, which is consistent with our testing. Surprisingly, when the headphones do run out of charge, a five-minute charge provides an impressive 90 minutes of listening time.

Verdict

Well, this is the Mojawa Run Plus, a bone-conduction headset with flagship performance at an affordable price. It has industry-leading sound quality and waterproofing in its price range. Now it’s even become my must-have swimming gear.If swimming is an integral part of your workout routine, the Mojawa Run Plus headphones could be an excellent option. It offers a secure fit, excellent battery life, stable and fast connection, internal memory, full waterproofing, and so on.

I really like it for its ease of use and wearing comfort, more importantly, it is one of the few bone-conduction headphones on the market with onboard storage, which allows you to really enjoy music while working out without being disturbed by the various messages from your smartphone.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G first impressions: Leading the pack with a telephoto camera in its price segment

Oppo recently introduced the OPPO Reno 10 series of smartphones in India. The Reno 10 Pro and Reno 10 Pro+ 5G models have become available for purchase starting today. The release date for the Reno 10, along with its pricing details, are yet to be disclosed, but it is set to go on sale on July 20. It’s worth noting that the Reno 10 Pro+ released in India is identical to the device that was initially launched in China back in May. The Reno 10 Pro and Reno 10 for the global market, including India, are different from their Chinese counterparts.

For the review, Oppo sent me the Reno 10 Pro’s Glossy Purple color variant, and I must say it made a strong impression with its impressive visual appeal right from the first glance. Here is our first impression story about the Reno 10 Pro.

Before reading ahead about the Reno 10 Pro, you might also be interested in learning about the Reno 10 Pro+ as it marks OPPO’s foray into the affordable premium segment. To delve deeper into the features and capabilities of the Reno 10 Pro+, you can visit this link to read a comprehensive review. Furthermore, an editorial is available that highlights the standout qualities and strengths of the Reno 10 Pro+.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro is not the successor to Reno 8 Pro

For those who don’t know, the Reno 9 series, which was launched in November 2022 in China, was skipped for other markets. Consequently, the “Reno 10 Pro” name may give the impression that it is a successor to the Reno 8 Pro from last year. However, this is not the case.

To recall, the Reno 8 Pro was launched with a price tag of Rs 45,999 and packed with specifications like a Dimensity 8100-Max SoC, LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. In contrast, the Reno 10 Pro, which has a lower price of Rs 39,999, is equipped with a comparatively less powerful Snapdragon 778G chip, LPDDR4x RAM, and UFS 3.0 storage. Oppo has priced the Reno 10 Pro at Rs 39,999.

The Reno series has established a reputation for delivering an impressive photography experience. Thanks to the inclusion of a telephoto, the Reno 10 Pro offers an even better photography experience compared to the Reno 8 Pro.

Considering the lower price and slightly less powerful internals, the Reno 10 Pro should not be regarded as a direct successor to the Reno 8 Pro. Instead, it falls between the Reno 10 and the Reno 10 Pro+ as an intermediate offering.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro design, specifications

While the Reno 8 Pro featured a flat display, the Reno 10 Pro takes on a more premium appearance with its curved-edge display. The phone showcases a glass back and a plastic frame, with the camera module having a dual-tone finish and a slightly raised design. When placed on a flat surface, the phone exhibits minimal wobbling. Despite its glass build, the Reno 10 Pro maintains a slim profile of 7.9mm and weighs 185 grams. Apart from purple, it comes in Silvery Grey shade.

During my initial usage, I found the 6.7-inch OLED display of the Reno 10 Pro to be reasonably bright, ensuring good visibility even in bright sunlight. The display boasts up to 950 nits of brightness, an FHD+ resolution, and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, providing a visually pleasing experience. Additionally, the display is protected by Asahi Glass AGC DT-Star 2.

OPPO Reno 10 Pro 5G

Undoubtedly, the Reno 10 Pro excels in the camera department. For selfies, it features a Sony IMX709 32-megapixel front camera with autofocus, integrated into the display punch-hole. The device borrows the impressive Sony IMX890 50-megapixel main camera, which is typically found on more expensive phones like the OPPO Reno 10 Pro+, OnePlus 11, OnePlus 11R, OPPO Find N2 Flip, OPPO Find X6, and others. A good thing is that the primary camera also supports Optical Image Stabilization, which was absent on the Reno 8 Pro.

What sets the Reno 10 Pro apart is the inclusion of a 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 telephoto snapper, making it the only phone in its price segment to offer a telephoto camera. This telephoto lens enables 2x optical zoom, enhancing the device’s photography capabilities. Additionally, the rear camera setup also includes a Sony IMX355 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Here are some of the camera samples of the Reno 10 Pro 5G. To be frank, I am quite impressed with the performance of the Reno 10 Pro’s telephoto camera, which is its standout feature.

Despite being initially introduced in 2021, the Snapdragon 778G chipset remains a reliable and sought-after option in the market. The Poco X5 Pro 5G is the only other global smartphone this year that features the same chip. A couple of phones, such as the Huawei Nova 11 series (SD778G 4G) and Vivo S17 (SD778G+) released in China this year also feature the same chip. The Reno 10 Pro comes with 12 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage.

Running on ColorOS 13.1-based Android 13, the Reno 10 Pro offers a smooth user experience and a wide array of features and customizations. Oppo has committed to providing two years of Android OS upgrades and three years of security patch updates. The device has received TUV Rheinland SUD’s A rating for 48-month smooth performance. However, I suggest that Oppo consider reducing the number of preloaded apps and disabling third-party app notifications by default on phones priced around Rs 30,000 or higher.

The Reno 10 Pro is equipped with a 4,600mAh battery, slightly larger than its predecessor, the Reno 8 Pro. The included 80W charger allows for a full charge in approximately 32 minutes. With Oppo’s Battery Health Engine (BHE), the battery is designed to withstand around 1,600 charge and discharge cycles, ensuring its longevity over four years. The device also features a large vapour chamber liquid cooling unit to dissipate heat. Additionally, an IR blaster has been added as a new feature, along with a single speaker.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G first impressions: Conclusion

In conclusion, the Reno 10 Pro 5G lives up to its “Portrait Expert” reputation as claimed by the company. With its stellar cameras, slim and sleek aesthetics, impressive curved-edge display, decent performance, and fast charging capabilities, it is a smartphone that combines versatility, style, and functionality.

While my initial experience has been positive, there is still much more to explore and evaluate in terms of performance, battery life, software features, and overall user experience. I look forward to conducting a comprehensive review of the Reno 10 Pro 5G soon, where I will delve deeper into its various aspects and provide you with a detailed analysis. Stay tuned for our upcoming review to gain a comprehensive understanding of what the Reno 10 Pro 5G has to offer.
