SpaceX’s Starship Test Flight: A Rocky Start to a Promising Future

SpaceX is a private American aerospace company founded in 2002 by entrepreneur Elon Musk. The company’s goal is to reduce space transportation costs and enable the colonization of Mars. SpaceX has achieved many milestones in space exploration, including the first privately-funded liquid-propellant rocket to reach orbit, the first privately-funded spacecraft to visit the International Space Station (ISS), and the first privately-funded reusable rocket, the Falcon 9, which has become the backbone of the company’s launch capabilities. SpaceX has also been developing the Starship spacecraft, which is intended to carry people and cargo to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The first launch for the Starship took place yesterday, and apart from the rocket blowing up, the launch was a success for the company.

Starship Explosion Wasn’t A Total Loss, Useful Data Gained

Though the flight did not go as planned, with the Starship failing to separate from the Super Heavy booster and exploding, CEO Elon Musk had previously warned enthusiasts to lower their expectations. The primary objective was to clear the launchpad, with any further progress deemed a bonus. Starship and Super Heavy together are taller than the Saturn V rocket and have 39 total Raptor engines, which are powerful enough to carry payloads of up to 330,000lbs to low Earth orbit when fully reusable and 550,000lbs when expendable. The new rocketry allows for missions that were previously impossible, including eventual trips to the Moon and Mars that require extensive fuel and supplies. Success with the next test is vital for both SpaceX and NASA, with Starship counting on lunar tourism and other commercial flights, while NASA’s Artemis Moon landings depend on the rocket for reaching the surface and returning astronauts to the Orion capsule for the trip home.

Starship

The sooner SpaceX can prove Starship’s viability, the better its chances of minimizing further delays, with NASA’s exploration efforts slated to begin in December 2025. Despite the failed test, the future of space exploration still looks promising, with SpaceX and other private companies pushing the boundaries and pioneering a new era of space travel.

Bluesky App now Available on Android, Users Still Need an Invite Code

As Twitter‘s regulations continue to change, some users are seeking alternatives to the platform, and Jack Dorsey’s Bluesky may be one. Bluesky is an invite-only beta app that showcases a new social protocol, AT, aimed at creating a decentralized social network, similar to Mastodon’s ActivityPub protocol. Although Bluesky was originally incubated within Twitter and received $13 million in funding, its future is uncertain due to Jack Dorsey’s departure as CEO and Twitter’s acquisition by Elon Musk. Additionally, several companies have committed to embracing ActivityPub, and polished Mastodon clients like Ivory and Mammoth have gained significant traction. However, Bluesky’s arrival on the App Store suggests a public launch may be near, and its ability to compete with decentralized alternatives to Twitter remains to be seen. As per recent news, the Bluesky app is now available on Android, but users still need an invite code to join the platform.

Bluesky, originally launched on iOS, is now available for Android Users

Those lucky enough to get in have reported a friendly and engaging environment that closely resembles Twitter in its early days. The platform is still missing some basic features like Direct Messages, but developers and engineers are working to build the infrastructure that will support it. The rise of Bluesky comes at a time when concerns over censorship and control of user data are at an all-time high. Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter last year has led to significant changes to the platform, and many users are looking for a more open and democratic alternative.

Bluesky

Bluesky represents a promising development in the world of social media, one that has the potential to give users more control over their online experience and create a more community-driven platform for communication and interaction. With the backing of Jack Dorsey and a team of talented developers, Bluesky may just be the social media platform that users have been waiting for.

Google Pushes Android 13 QPR3 Beta 3 Update For Pixel Devices

Google’s Beta program offers early access to upcoming features and improvements for Pixel device users. By signing up through Google’s website, users can test out pre-release versions of Android updates before their official release. While this allows users to experience the latest Android features ahead of the curve, it’s important to note that these Beta releases may contain bugs or other issues that can affect device performance. To avoid losing data, users are encouraged to back up their devices before installing the Beta updates and to proceed at their own risk. In the lead-up to the official release of Android 14, Google will typically release several Beta versions for users to test. The latest release is the Android 13 QPR3 Beta 3 Update, which is currently rolling out to Pixel devices, according to recent reports.

Expect Multiple Android Beta Versions before Official Launch

Verizon subscribers who own a Pixel 6 series device can expect to receive the T3B3.230413.003.A1 build, which includes the March 2023 security patch. This is in contrast with build T3B3.230413.003, which all other devices will receive and includes the April 2023 security patch instead. If you have already installed Android 14 Beta 1, you will not receive any QPR3 Beta updates.

Google Pixel 7 Pro

The release notes outlined by Google reveal that several issues have been resolved in Android 13 QPR3 Beta 3, such as Wi-Fi calling not working, the system getting stuck on the home screen with no app icons, and the system UI crashing when trying to access the Wallpaper & Style screen. Other issues such as the camera displaying a black screen and the device rebooting when a work profile is switched on or off have also been fixed.

For those interested in joining the Android Beta program, enrollment can be done by visiting the official website. However, it is important to note that devices that have been newly enrolled will automatically receive the Android 14 Beta releases, not the Android 13 QPR3 Beta. The final quarterly release for the Android 13 QPR3 beta program is expected to take place in June when it will see its consumer launch. However, as with any beta release, users should be aware that there may still be bugs and other issues that need to be addressed from here until its final version.

Great Wall Motor’s Cannon CyberPickup 6×6 showcased; draws strong comparisons with Tesla Cybertruck

The Cannon CyberPickup 6×6 EV has been showcased at the 2023 Shanghai auto show. The latest powerhouse EV from China’s Great Wall Motors in the pickup segment squares up nicely against the Cybertruck. The new concept pickup is in collaboration with Chaojing Motors and was one of the highlights of the 2023 Shanghai auto show.

Cannon CyberPickup 6x6

The Cannon CyberPickup 6×6 is described as a technical masterpiece that combines both luxury and off-road performance nicely into an EV. The concept will launch the Cannon brand into the 2.0 era and it has a very rugged design. The CyberPickup has already drawn comparisons with Tesla’s Cybertruck reportedly being assembled in Austin, Texas in the US.

The CyberPickup or Cyberspace Pickup is not however limited to a purely battery-powered drivetrain, as a hybrid variant will also be available. Great Wall Motors says the CyberPickup 6×6 has options of a 3.0-Liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid hydrogen fuel cell or other super-powerful options, or gasoline.

Cannon CyberPickup 6x6

The truck will be outfitted with five electronically-controlled differential locks. This could mean that the battery electric model will deploy dual electric motors on the outer rear axles and a single motor at the front. This allows the drivetrain to operate in a manner that can virtually lock the rear by synchronizing the dual motors. This accounts for the four lockers in addition to a physical locking differential in the front.

The Cannon CyberPickup 6×6 will feature recovery hooks at the front, an aluminum winch fairlead at the rear, and 33×11-inch Cooper Discoverer AT3 off-road tires. The additional axle system provides greater power to the truck and its exterior is quite impressive. It looks like a hybrid of some of the very powerful pickup trucks in the industry.

The CyberPickup looks like a Toyota Tundra at the front while the hind quarters and wheel styling are akin to the Ram 1500. It has ultra-wide fender flares and a gaping grille with integrated LED light displayed at the front. The POER sub-brand is displayed along the hood line while the tailgate reflects a 60/40 split. The truck has chrome bits and stick-on appliques finishing to deliver a beautiful ride on six wheels.

Cannon CyberPickup 6x6

The Cannon CyberPickup 6×6 has an exquisite interior to match its exterior. It has white leather with light grey suede accents. The cabin of the car is also impressive with a massive infotainment screen and a fully digital instrument cluster. The dash and center console layout bears a close resemblance to the Chevy Silverado while the seating surfaces project comfort through and through. There are no clear-cut timelines on the production of the CyberPickup 6×6 although it is rumored to be close to production.

Twitter is Finally Removing Blue Checkmarks from Legacy Verified Accounts

Twitter has been making big changes to its ecosystem ever since Elon Musk took the reigns of the company into his own hands. For instance, free API support was taken away from developers, and new pricing plans were introduced recently. Users gained the ability to see how many people have bookmarked their tweets. Earlier in March, the company had announced that it will take away legacy verified checkmarks from all profiles across Twitter, forcing previously-verified users to pay for their Twitter Blue certification. This was supposed to happen from April 1 onwards. However, since it was a manual process, it was quite slow – but it’s happening now.

Previously Verified Users have voiced their Displeasure

Twitter’s decision to strip the blue checkmark from legacy verified accounts that are not subscribed to Twitter Blue has sparked debate and controversy on the platform. While some users are in favour of the move, others see it as an exclusionary tactic that could divide paying and non-paying users. The blue checkmark has been a symbol of prestige on Twitter since its introduction in 2009. Initially used to verify accounts of public figures and celebrities, it later expanded to include journalists, activists, and other notable individuals. However, the verification process was often criticized for being opaque and inconsistent, leading to confusion and frustration among users.

Twitter

With the introduction of Twitter Blue, the company now offers a paid subscription service that includes access to exclusive features such as undoing tweets, bookmark collections, and customizable app icons. However, the decision to make verification part of the paid service has drawn criticism from some users who see it as a way to monetize the platform’s most coveted feature. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is among the most vocal critics of the media and has used Twitter to air his grievances with newsrooms such as BBC and NPR. With his recent appointment as the ultimate decision-maker for verified accounts, some users are concerned about the potential for bias and favoritism.

Moreover, the removal of the blue checkmark from legacy verified accounts has raised questions about Twitter’s commitment to transparency and fairness. Some users have reported inconsistencies in the verification process, with some accounts remaining verified despite not meeting the criteria, while others lose their verification status seemingly without cause. Only time will tell if this move actually bears any fruit or if it will spell more problems for the company.
