Android 12 beta program begins for Oppo F21 Pro 5G, Reno 7 Z 5G

Earlier this month, Oppo revealed that it will be starting the Android 12 beta program for the Oppo F21 Pro 5G in India. As promised, the company has started recruiting testers. Let’s check out how you can enroll your device to try out the new software before the general public.

OPPO F21 Pro 5G
Oppo F21 Pro 5G (Review)

According to official announcement posts on Oppo Community, the Chinese handset maker opened Android 12 beta registrations for the Oppo F21 Pro 5G and the Oppo Reno 7 Z 5G on June 17.

For the unaware, these two are basically the same phones with different names. The F series is sold in India, while the Reno Z series is available in Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia.

Per the plan, Oppo is supposed to open registrations on June 23. However, the firm has been recruiting testers six days ahead of schedule. The registration window will only close on June 24, and therefore, there’s still time for interested people to enroll in the program.

But the brand has only allocated 5000 seats each for F21 Pro 5G in India and Reno 7 Z 5G in Indonesia. In order to join the initiative, users will have to go to Settings > Software Update > Gear Icon > Apply Beta Version > Update Beta version and follow the on-screen instructions.

Applicants who get selected will receive the Android 12 beta build via OTA update. As far as stable release is concerned, it should be out in a month or two.

It is worth noting that the 4G variant of Oppo F21 Pro (aka Oppo Reno 7 4G), which was released alongside this phone actually boots Android 12-based ColorOS 12. But for some reason, the 5G model debuted with Android 11.

Anyway, we will update you once Oppo starts rolling out the Android 12 stable update for the Oppo F21 Pro 5G and Oppo Reno 7 5G in the near future.

Here’s why the first Apple iPhone didn’t have copy and paste function

Apple had launched its first ever iPhone model back in 2007. However, despite the device being one of the most innovative products of its time, it did not feature a common function which is copy and paste. And now, a former company engineer has finally revealed why this was the case back then.

Ken Kocienda shared a tweet recently explaining why the copy and paste function was missing on the first iPhone model. Ken had joined the Cupertino based giant back in 2001 and had been one of the key engineers that worked on the first iPhone project. He recently took to Twitter to explain why the brand’s first iPhone did not feature this basic feature. Apparently, the answer to this is quite simple, Apple just didn’t “do it right.”

To elaborate, the team behind the first iPhone did not have the time to do it right before the device started shipping. The former Apple engineer stated that he was busy working on the device’s keyboard, autocorrect, and text functionality. He further added that the after the iPhone launched, the team began to work on a copy and paste function. Notably, Ken Kocienda claimed that the “magnifying text loupe,” which zoomed in on the highlighted text was also his idea.

Apple

Apart from this, Kocienda also shared that the text system was entirely powered by WebKit. He said that “About the text system, all editable styled text on the original iPhone was backed by WebKit. he system had itty bitty web pages sprinkled here and there. Every multiline UITextView was its own web page.”

New iOS 16 feature will let users bypass annoying CAPTCHAs on some websites

Many websites use CAPTCHAs to make users prove they are not bots. Sure, this effort increases cyber security, but it can be pretty annoying at times. However, there’s good news for iPhone users, you will not have to deal with as many annoying CAPTCHAs because iOS 16 will come with a new feature that will let users bypass CAPTCHAs in supported apps and websites.

According to MacRumors, Apple will be introducing a new feature for its iOS16, iPadOS 16, and MacOS Ventura called Automatic Verification. This feature will let some websites and apps know that you’re a human without you actually having to solve the CAPTCHA.

The report claims Apple has revealed details about how this feature will work in a developer video as part of WWDC 2022. The feature can be found in the Settings under Apple ID> Password & Security > Automatic Verification. Apple claims iCloud will automatically and privately verify your device and Apple ID account when you enable this new feature, thereby eliminating the need to complete CAPTCHA verifications on apps and websites.

Automatic verification

Apple has partnered with two major content delivery networks (CDN)– Fastly and Cloudflare, to develop the system. These two CDNs are used by the majority of websites meaning that the ability to bypass CAPTCHAs may be coming to millions of apps and websites powered by either of the services. Moreover, the feature will roll out more widely in the near future.

This feature is enabled by default in the developer’s beta iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. The feature is also supported in macOS Ventura. The upcoming Apple software updates are still under development and are expected to roll out this fall.

BOE may end up supplying OLED Displays for the upcoming iPhone 14 Series

Earlier this year, China’s BOE made a deal with Apple for supplying the OLED display panels used in the new iPhone 14 series which is expected to be launched in September. However, BOE was caught changing the circuit width of the thin film transistors on the OLED panels it was manufacturing for iPhone 13. This led Apple to halt its orders. Now, as per a new report, Apple is again evaluating samples of BOE displays and may place a large-scale order.

According to a report by South Korea’s The Elec, this week, Apple will be evaluating BOE’s samples of OLED panels aimed for the upcoming iPhone 14 series. And if things go right, Apple may even proceed to place a bulk order.

The Chinese display manufacturer is expecting to receive approval from the Cupertino company within a month, says the report. Moreover, If Apple decides to give a heads up, BOE will start mass-producing the panels for the standard iPhone 14 model sometime between July and August.

iPhone 14 Pro

The Report says BOE is a few weeks behind its South Korean competitors, as Samsung Display and LG Display are likely to start the production of the iPhone 14 OLED panels at the end of this year.

It is also reported that BOE will supply around 5 million units at most due to its recent debacle with the panels for the iPhone 13.

We know that Apple iPhone 14 series is going to have four models- iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone Pro Max. Apple will be replacing the mini version with a Plus/Max variant.

The standard iPhone 14 and 14 max will not carry many design changes. However, the Pro and Pro Max will feature a new cutout, with a hole-punch plus pill design. Also, the regular models will feature the prev-gen A14 chip whereas the Pro and Pro Max will boast the new A15 chip.

It will be interesting to see how Apple is going to justify the price of the regular models since they are almost the same as previous-generation iPhone 13 models.

Rumored Galaxy S21 FE 4G Turns Out to be a 5G Model, Google Play Listing Confirms

Back in January, Samsung unveiled the fan edition Galaxy S21 FE. Unlike the previous-gen S20 FE, which came in two different variants, the S21 FE got launched in just one iteration featuring 5G connectivity with Snapdragon 888 Soc under the hood. But recently, there were rumors that Samsung is working on a cheaper Galaxy S21 FE 4G variant with model number SM-G990B2. However, it seems that rumors are false and there is no S21 FE 4G as SM-G990B2 has been spotted on the Google Play Supported device list as a 5G device.

Rumors suggested that Samsung is planning to surprise us with a 4G variant of S21 FE, the smartphone was said to be in the works with model number SM-G990B2. It was also reported that the rumored smartphone will be powered by a downgraded Snapdragon 720G SoC. This cancels the possibility of a 4G variant. However, Samsung might release the SM-G990B2 with Snapdragon 720G SoC to dominate the mid-range segment. As usual, there’s no official word from Samsung about the rumored smartphone.

Talking about the Snapdragon 720 Soc that is rumored to be inside the SM-G990B2, it is a significant downgrade when compared to the Snapdragon 888. 720 was used in the mid-range Galaxy A52 and also in a plethora of Redmi smartphones.
