HD Unboxing Video of Google Pixel 3 XL posted online

Google won’t announce the Pixel 3 XL until October but when it does, the only thing we won’t already know by then will be the price. Over the past few weeks, the Pixel 3 XL has leaked in various forms from live shots to full unboxing videos and even camera comparisons with the Samsung Galaxy Note9 and Huawei P20 Pro. Now, a new unboxing video has surfaced online and it is a higher quality than the one that leaked weeks ago.

Google Pixel 3 XL unboxing video featured

The video was posted by Russsian YouTube channel In Digi. The Pixel 3 XL comes in a white box devoid of any Pixel or Google branding. The version in the box is pure white with black front bezels.

Included in the box is a pair of wired earphones which have the same design as the wireless Pixel Earbuds from last year. There is a USB-C charging/data cable, a 3.5mm to USB-C cable, and a USB-A to USB-C dongle all in white included in the box. There is also a charging adapter in the box.

Google Pixel 3 XL unboxing video chin

The Pixel 3 XL has a thick lower bezel which is home to one of the front-stereo stereo facing speakers. There are no bezels on the sides and at the top, but there is a large tub-like notch which houses the second speaker and two front-facing cameras.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M77bSscDJpo[/embedyt]

Just like the Panda White Google Pixel 2 XL, the Pure White Pixel 3 XL has a colored power button but instead of orange like its predecessor’s, it is mint green. The volume rocker is also on the right directly below the power button.

Google hasn’t really changed the design on the back. The main change is that the whole of the back is now covered in glass, not just the top part where the camera and LED flash are located. This shouldn’t be surprising since the Pixel 3 XL supports wireless charging. However, the camera half has a different shade of white to give the phone that two-tone finish.

As we can see in the rest of the video, the Pixel 3 XL is big, and unless you have really large hands, using this device with one hand for more than a few minutes doesn’t look comfortable. The video also confirms the Google Pixel 3 XL is running Android 9 Pie out of the box and also shows off the camera prowess.

Nokia smartphone maker HMD Global now owns the ‘PureView’ trademark

HMD Global, the company behind the new Nokia smartphones, has now got the “PureView” trademark back from Microsoft. According to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) listing, the trademark ownership has now been transferred from Microsoft to HMD Global on August 23.

PureView debuted in the year 2012, when Nokia presented to the world the Nokia 808 PureView at Mobile World Congress 2012, a camera monster at that time, and still the phone with the biggest image sensor in the history of the mobile industry. Later, the PureView branding was applied to the Lumia 920, 1020, 1520, and later the Microsoft Lumia 950.

HMD Global PureView

With ‘PureView’ now in the hands of HMD Global, we could see a Nokia smartphone with PureView branding in the near future. The Finnish company could also adopt PureView for the upcoming Nokia 9 flagship smartphone, but that’s just a speculation. There’s no official communication from the company regarding the usage of the PureView trademark.

Along with the PureView trademark, the company has also registered a new trademark for “Dual Sight” which we assume is for the Bothie feature of Nokia smartphones which enables users to take images from the rear as well as the front-facing camera at the same time.

HMD Global also owns a few other brands that Nokia had earlier introduced, including Asha and Xpress-On. The company has not used the Asha brand and the Xpress-On brand has been used only for the interchangeable back cover for Nokia 1 phone. Point being, HMD owning the PureView brand doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll see it in the near future on a mobile device.

We recently heard some speculation that HMD could use Light’s Penta-lens camera setup on its mobile devices, and maybe the PureView brand will debut with that Penta-lens device. PureView was about the best camera performance and if HMD Global decides to use the PureView brand, the company needs to make sure the phone features the best camera experience.

OnePlus 6T specs may include 3D sensing technology and ultra-fast charging

OPPO has recently introduced the OPPO R17 and OPPO R17 Pro smartphones. These phones are equipped with waterdrop notch screens that are shielded by Corning Gorillas Glass 6. Compared to R17, the R17 Pro is an advanced smartphone that features a triple camera unit with 3D ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensing technology. It is also equipped with Super VOOC fast charging that was only available on the OPPO Find X that was unveiled in June. Since China-based BBK Electronics is the parent firm of OnePlus, OPPO and Vivo, it is very likely that the upcoming OnePlus 6T may borrow features like 3D sensing technology, ultra-fast charging and in-display fingerprint scanner from the R17 Pro.

The R17 Pro’s triple camera unit includes 12-megapixel main camera with f/1.5 – f/2.4 variable aperture + 20-megpixel secondary sensor and 3D ToF sensing technology. This tech is different from the 3D structured light module that is used for 3D facial recognition on the Apple iPhone X and Oppo Find X. On the other side, the 3D ToF camera can be used for gesture recognition and Augmented Reality cases such as virtual fitting of clothes or virtually checking how a furniture will appear at home. Chinese tipsters are now claiming that the upcoming OnePlus 6T could be also equipped with 3D ToF sensing technology.

3D ToF sensing technology on OPPO R17 Pro

There is a possibility that the OnePlus 6T will be equipped with a 6.4-inch OLED screen with waterdrop notch display design like the OPPO R17 Pro. It could be protected by Gorilla Glass 6 layer.

Also, the OnePlus 6T could be the first OnePlus smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Super VOOC charging available on the R17 Pro offers 50W fast charging that can gain 40 percent battery power by charging it for only 10 minutes. The other feature that OP6T may borrow from the R17 Pro is variable camera aperture for the for its main lens in the dual camera setup.

OnePlus 6T has recently received certification from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) that has confirmed its existence. Since the OPPO R17 Pro is a China-exclusive phone, it is unlikely to arrive in Western markets where OnePlus smartphones are targeted. The OP6T could be the first OnePlus phone to land through a carrier in the U.S. The handset could be available through T-Mobile in the country. As far as pricing is concerned, it is speculated that it could cost around $550.

The LG V40 takes a cue from Huawei’s P20 Pro and packs triple rear cameras, however, LG is using a different design. The three cameras are lined up horizontally at the center. They share a single housing and are flanked by a LED flash on the left. There is also a fingerprint scanner below the setup and the device’s name etched a few millimeters below.

The LG V40 has a 6.3-inch display and will also sport a notch like the LG G7 but its own notch will house dual cameras bringing the total number of sensors on the device to five. The notch isn’t wide or deep like we have seen from some other manufacturers. If you do not like the notch, there will be a settings menu where it can be hidden.

There is a bit of bezel at the bottom below the screen which is sort of standard on Android devices with a notch. The only difference may be the thickness. From the renders, we can also see that the LG V40 has a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille at the bottom.

The dimensions of the phone have also been provided. The LG V40 will measure 158.8 x 75.8 x 7.8mm. It has a camera bump so if you factor that in, it measures 8.2mm at its thickest point.

BlackBerry KEY2 LE debuting at IFA 2018 on August 30

Despite physical keyboard having totally disappeared in the phones market due to the big touchscreen displays, BlackBerry is still releasing devices with physical QWERTY keyboards. After launching the new KEY2 with upper-midrange specs, the Canadian company acquired by TCL will soon announce its more affordable Lite version: BlackBerry KEY2 LE. Today, BB’s official account on Twitter has posted a teaser video which confirms that the handset will officially debut at IFA 2018, on August 30.

Just like its older sibling, BlackBerry KEY2 LE will be equipped with a physical QWERTY keyboard with a space bar doubling as a fingerprint reader. It is expected to come with an unusual 4.5-inch display (due to the presence of the keyboard) with an “almost” Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1620 pixels.

On the hardware side, there will be an octa-core Snapdragon 636 chipset running at a max clock frequency of 1.8 GHz, supported by 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal storage depending on the chosen variant. The rear plastic back should house a dual camera configuration with resolutions of 13 and 5 MP, while the front camera should be a 5 MP snapper. At last, the battery will have a capacity of 3000 mAh. Excluding the keyboard, none of BlackBerry KEY2 LE alleged specs are impressive, so we hope at least that it will be sold at a reasonable price.

AGM X3 surfaces on TENAA ahead of August 29 launch

Chinese phone manufacturer, AGM, is set to launch a new rugged smartphone on Wednesday, August 29. The new phone which will be sold as the AGM X3 will be the most powerful rugged smartphone available as it will come with a Snapdragon 845 processor. Ahead of its release, the phone has appeared on China’s network agency, TENAA, baring all its specs.

The AGM X3 will come with a 5.99-inch screen with a 1080 x 2160 resolution. It is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 2.649GHz which has been confirmed to be the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. There will be two configurations – one will have 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage while the other will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Irrespective of the version purchased, owners will be able to add more storage via a MicroSD card slot.

On the back of the phone are dual cameras arranged vertically. The TENAA listing says one of the rear cameras is a 20MP sensor but the pixel count of the second sensor isn’t stated. There is also a 24MP sensor in front for selfies and video calls. Below the dual rear cameras is a fingerprint scanner for keeping the phone secure.

The AGM X3 will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and pack a 4,100mAh battery. While it may be a big battery when compared to other flagships released this year, the capacity is actually much smaller than that of the AGM X2 which has a 6000mAh battery.

The X3 will only be available in black according to TENAA. Seeing as it is a rugged smartphone, it is no surprise that the phone weighs 200g. Its dimensions are given as 167.5 x 81.5 x 10.5 mm.

Based on the pictures provided by TENAA, the AGM X3 appears to have a back made of glass with curved sides. There is a rubberized frame with extra thick corners that runs around the phone to absorb shocks when it falls.

OnePlus 6T certified in Russia, EEC confirms its existence

Finally, we have got a concrete piece of information about the OnePlus 6T. The upcoming flagship which has been reported to officially debut in November has just been certified by the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission) in Russia. This kind of confirms its existence after tons of mere rumors. So, even though no important technologic breakthroughs have been made and no new flagship chipsets by Qualcomm have hit the shelves in the past few months, the second OnePlus flagship of this year will come just like in 2017.

Sadly, the EEC did not release any info about the specs sheet of the flagship. From the Russian agency, we only know that it has been certified with the model number A6013. So, we still have to rely on rumors. According to recent rumors, the upcoming OnePlus 6T will come with the same design as the new Oppo R17 Pro, which includes a waterdrop display which will have a minimal notch just for the front camera and an even higher screen-to-body ratio than its predecessor. But there should be a difference: the 6T is not expected to come with an in-display fingerprint reader, so it may be placed on the back.

It may even be available in gradient color variants like Stream Blue of the R17 Pro. And it may sport a triple camera setup composed of three sensors: one with a 12 MP resolution and a variable aperture (it will be possible to switch from f/1.5 to f/2.4) just like the latest Samsung flagships, one with a 20 MP resolution and a f/2.6 aperture and a TOF 3D stereo camera for AR able to capture depth info. The display of the OnePlus 6T should be a bit bigger than the one of its predecessor (6.4 inches with AMOLED technology and Full HD+ resolution), while the processor will be the Snapdragon 845.

Huawei P20’s night mode coming to Mate 10 series

The Huawei Mate 10 series have received a number of key updates this year that have brought it close to par with the Huawei P20 series. Majority of these updates have been in the camera department and it appears Huawei isn’t done with the 2017 flagships yet.

A new info says the Mate 10 series (Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and the Porsche Design Mate 10) will soon get the Night Shot camera mode of the P20 series via an update. With Night Shot, users will be able to take better photographs in low-light. On the Huawei P20, the camera combines multiple shots into a single image when taking pictures in night mode. The result is a brighter image with less noise.

The Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro were released last year and are the first Huawei phones to come with the Kirin 970 which is the same chipset in the Huawei P20 series.
