AnTuTu has released its list of top 10 best performance smartphones for the month of July. The new list reveals that the phones that have made it to the top 10 list have managed to record more than 250K+ average benchmarking score. Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming is leading the pack by scoring nearly 300,000 average benchmarking score.
The above list contains the top 10 best performing smartphones between July 1 and July 30. The Black Shark has recorded an impressive score of 292,977. The second place goes to OPPO Find X with a score of 286,589. The Vivo NEX is sitting on the third potion with a score of 283,877.
Earlier this year, the Kirin 970 SoC powered Huawei phones were seen leading the list of AnTuTu’s best performing smartphones. However, all the 10 phones that have appeared in the top 10 list for July are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. This theoretically shows that SD845 phones can offer better performance than Kirin 970 powered Huawei and Honor phones.
Huawei will be launching 7nm Kirin 980 SoC at IFA 2018. In October, it is expected to debut Kirin 980 driven phones such as Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. By November, these phones could be available in wider markets. Hence, the Chinese manufacturer may lead the list of AnTuTu’s best performing smartphones by November. Rumors have it that Honor may also debut Honor V11 or V20 as a successor phone for Honor V10 phone from 2017.

In November 2017, Razer had launched the Razer Phone as its first ever gaming smartphone. The company is now rumored to be working on Razer Phone 2 as a successor for the last year’s model. Fresh information shared by none other Razer Global VP Chen Xiaoping suggests that Razer Phone 2 will go official by the end of this year in China.
During the ongoing ChinaJoy 2018 tech expo in Shanghai, Chen has revealed that a new Razer device powered by the Qualcomm chipset will be announce by the end of 2018. However, he did not confirm on the name of the device. Probably, he could be talking about the Razer Phone 2 smartphone.
The newest Qualcomm flagship that is currently available in the market is the Snapdragon 845. Some rumors are claiming that the Razer Phone 2 may feature the Snapdragon 855 that is expected to get announced in December. However, it may so happen that Razer may announce the Razer Phone 2 with Snapdragon 845 in November just as the predecessor smartphone was launched in the same month in 2017.
In the recent past, some manufacturers have launched gaming-centric smartphones such as Xiaomi Black Shark, Nubia Red Magic, ASUS ROG Phone, Honor Play and Honor Note 10. The original Razer Phone was not launched in China, but the upcoming Razer Phone 2 is likely in the country to rival with aforementioned gaming phones.
At present there is no information on the specifications of the Razer Phone 2. However, it is likely to feature 120 Hz display and 8 GB of RAM like the original Razer Phone. The company may house a 4,000mAh or larger battery inside the Razer Phone 2.
It is speculated that Razer may announce Project Linda at IFA 2018. It is a laptop-like device which features a slot to place the Razer Phone and use its screen as touchpad. The notebook is powered by Razer Phone’s Snapdragon 835 SoC and 8 GB RAM. The screen of the phone may function as a secondary display.
Honor Play was launched in China last month. Today, as promised, Huawei’s sub-brand has launched the same gaming-centric smartphone in the Indian market. The phone will be available in two color options — Midnight Black and Navy Blue.
The 4GB RAM model costs Rs. 19,999 (approximately $291) while the 6GB RAM model is priced at Rs. 23,999, which roughly converts to $349. It will be available exclusively via Amazon India and Honor Store from today 4:00 PM.
The Honor Play boasts a 6.3-inch Full HD+ LCD display with 2340 x 1080 pixel screen, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 85 percent NTSC color gamut. It is powered by Huawei‘s own Kirin 970 10nm octa-core processor with Mali-G72 MP12 GPU, and i7 co-processor.
It comes in two variants based on the memory configuration — 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM with 64GB internal storage. There’s a microSD card slot for expanding the storage capacity. The phone runs EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.
In the camera department, it features a dual-camera on the back, consisting of a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel rear sensor with AI features. On the front side, there’s a 16-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.
There’s a fingerprint sensor on the back panel. The Face Unlock feature on the phone uses artificial intelligence that the company claims helps in adapting to different lightings and minute facial changes for accuracy. It also has a security feature that reveals notifications on the screen only when it recognizes the face.
As said, the Honor Play is basically a gaming-centric smartphone and is the first Honor device to feature the company’s “breakthrough” GPU Turbo technology that enhances GPU performance significantly by increasing graphics processing efficiency up to 60 percent.
It also comes with 4D Gaming that vibrates the phone in real-time when the user is playing games. The vibration happens when it detects different scenes like explosions and shots. This is similar to the force/haptic feedback on gaming controllers while playing on PCs or gaming consoles.
Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C. The phone is fuelled by a 3,750mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.
Sony launched the Xperia XZ2 duo back in April in China. At the time of launch, the smaller sibling, the Xperia XZ2 was priced at 5999 Yuan (~$954). Despite the flagship grade specs, this was an exorbitant price considering the competitive nature of the Chinese market as well as the availability of better options. However, just under four months of its release, the Xperia XZ2 is selling for nearly $300 less than its official price tag. China’s leading retailer, JD.com is currently offering the phone for just 3999 Yuan ($584) which is a massive price cut in such a short time span!
At present, only the 6+64GB variant seems to be on sale and you can get it in just one color: Liquid Black. Other colors namely liquid silver, deep green, and ash pink are currently listed as out of stock. After this price cut, the Xperia XZ2 turns out to be a competitive option for high-end buyers.
The phone comes with a double-glass sandwich design featuring a 3D curved back to enhance the grip and a metal frame in the middle. Powered by the top-end Snapdragon 845 chipset inside, the phone features a beautiful 5.7-inch 2160x1080p display with TRILUMINOS, X-Reality Engine and HDR. The XZ2 features a single 19MP motion eye camera which can record 4K HDR and 960 fps slo-mo videos. Other notable features include 3060mAh battery, IP68 water and dust resistance, QC 3.0, Wireless charging, and Android 8.0 Oreo.
Sony’s sales have been dwindling in the past few years with the company even planning to revise its initial estimate from 10 million smartphone sales in 2018 to 9 million after a disappointing Q2 2018. In comparison, the company had sold over 22 million smartphones in 2017.

The leaked images show that the Mi 8X will be available in at least two color options such as white and blue. The handset seems to be featuring a glass or ceramic rear. The top-left corner of the back panel features a vertical dual camera setup. What’s interesting about this smartphone is that it does not feature a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The leakster claims that the Mi 8X is equipped with in-screen fingerprint scanner.
Another leakster has claimed that the upcoming Mi Note could be replaced by Mi 8X phone. He has shared another image which shows Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun holding a mysterious dual camera smartphone that lacks a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. It appears that Jun could be holding the mysterious Xiaomi Mi 8X smartphone.
Earlier this year, XDA Developers had revealed Xiaomi’s upcoming Snapdragon 710 smartphones are codenamed as Sirius and Comet. Xiaomi has already unveiled the Sirius phone as Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. So, there is a possibility that the rumored Snapdragon 710 powered Xiaomi MI 8X could be Comet phone.
The leaked firmware files of the Comet phone have revealed that it is a Mi series smartphone with OLED screen. The display of the phone carries support for Always-On Display (AOD) feature. As we all know, tech giant Google is currently working on its flagship smartphones — Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. While we know a lot about the phones thanks to several leaks surrounding the devices, the launch date of the devices were not known.
Now, thanks to a slip-up from the Google Canada team, we now know that the company is planning to launch the Pixel 3 on October 4. However, this seems to be the date of unveiling the phone and not the actual date when the device starts shipping.
Google posted an ad on its Famebit site that implies the phone is going to be formally revealed on or by October 4th. The posted ad was reportedly created by Google itself to promote the Pixel 3 in Canada, with a description that notes, “The Pixel 3 Phone is launching October 4th, 2018.”
The October 4 launch date for the Pixel 3-series phones seems genuine given that Google has launched the first-generation and second-generation Pixel-series phones on October 4th at its typical “Made by Google” event.
A recent Geekbench listing of the Pixel 3 XL revealed its key specifications, indicating that the phone will run Android 9.0 P operating system along with 4GB RAM. While the processor is not mentioned, it’s likely to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. There could also be a 6GB RAM variant of the phone.
Recent reports have revealed that the Pixel 3 will be arriving with an 18:9 aspect ratio and its larger sibling will be equipped with a notched display that will deliver a 19:9 aspect ratio. Both the phones are expected to arrive with dual front-facing cameras and a single rear camera sensor.
Further, both the devices are speculated to come with support for wireless charging as well as Active Edge feature that allows users to launch Google Assistant and also silence calls by squeezing the sides of the phone.
Last month, Huawei launched its two new mid-range phones — Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i in China. Later, both the models were introduced in the Indian market. Now, it’s time for the phone’s debut in Taiwan.
The previous report mentioned that both the phones will launch in Taiwan by the end of this month. Now, Huawei has officially revealed that the Nova 3 and Nova 3i will be launched in Taiwan at a press event on 23rd August. No further details are available related to the devices, including pricing and availability.
The Huawei Nova 3 features a large 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. Under the hood, it is powered by the company’s own flagship chipset Kirin 970 AI, which is coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
The device comes with the company’s recently launched GPU Turbo technology that promises a 60% increase in performance and 30% battery saving. There’s a dual-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 24-megapixel secondary camera sensor on the back, with one being a color sensor and other being monochrome.
The camera has f/1.8 aperture lens, phase detection autofocus, contrast AF, artificial intelligence-based scene recognition, short video effects via artificial intelligence and even HDR Pro. On the front side, there’s a 24-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.0 sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor that supports AI features as well as an enhanced beauty mode. The phone also supports IR face unlock and 3D face recognition payments.
Connectivity options on the device include Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, and USB Type-C. The smartphone features 3D Emoji AR support and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system based EMUI 8.2 user interface. It is fueled by a 3,750mAh battery that supports fast charging.
On the other hand, the Nova 3i features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ with 2340 x 1080 pixels, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and 2.5D curved display. It is powered by Kirin 710 octa-core processor along with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage with microSD card support up to 256GB.
There’s a dual-camera setup at back with 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front side, there’s a 24-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. Connectivity options on the device include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, and GPS + GLONASS.
Just like Nova 3, this one also comes with GPU Turbo feature. It also has a fingerprint sensor on the back for added security. The phone runs on Android Oreo operating system with the company’s own custom interface EMUI 8.2 on top. The device is powered by a 3,340mAh battery.
Last year, Xiaomi had launched the Mi MIX 2 in September and it had announced Mi MIX 2S phone as its upgraded version in March this year. It is heavily speculated that Xiaomi may announce the Mi MIX 3 flagship phone as a successor for the Mi MIX 2 in the coming month. A recent leak had claimed that the Mi MIX 3 may go official on Sept. 15. Also, it is speculated that the smartphone may offer more screen space as it won’t be featuring a selfie camera on the bottom bezel of the phone. Instead of it, it may arrive with an LED flash enabled pop-up selfie camera. Today, a leaked screenshot of what appears to be official listing of the Mi MIX 3 has surfaced. The screenshot has revealed the key specifications as well as the pricing of the phone.
As it can be seen in the leaked screenshot, the Mi MIX 3 will be supporting 2K resolution on its AMOLED display that will be equipped with COP packaging technology. The Snapdragon 845 chipset will be present inside it. For shooting selfies, the handset will be featuring a 20-megapixel pop-up front camera. An in-display fingerprint scanner will be also present on the Mi MIX 3. Lastly, the leak also reveals that the smartphone will carry support for Qi wireless charging. Apart from these specs, the new leak has no information on RAM, storage and battery capacities of the Mi MIX 3.
In 2015, Xiaomi had filed a patent for selfie flash equipped pop-up front camera. Multiple reports that have surfaced in the recent past have claimed that the upcoming Mi MIX 3 would be featuring the same selfie camera setup. The Xiaomi Mi 8 is equipped with a 20-megapixel selfie camera. Probably, the company may use the same selfie snapper on the Mi MIX 3.
The Mi MIX 2S is the first Xiaomi phone to arrive with support for Qi wireless charging. Hence, it is likely that the Mi MIX 3 would be also equipped with Qi wireless charging. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition that was unleashed alongside the Mi 8 is the first Xiaomi phone to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner. The upcoming Mi MIX 3 flagship phone could be the second phone to feature it.
The snapshot has also revealed that the Mi MIX is priced at 3,899 Yuan (~$569). Unfortunately, there is no confirmation on the authenticity of the above screenshot. Hence, it is advisable to digest the report with grain of salt.
LG Display, which is one of the major manufacturers when it comes to LCD and LED displays, is now reportedly planning to start production of its foldable OLED display next year.
Reports suggest that LG has been developing the technology for foldable display for years but when it comes to the production of such displays, the likes of Samsung and China-based BOE are leading the race.
The latest report now says that LG Display is now collaborating with “a global OEM” for the production of a foldable display panel for one of its traditional partners. However, the report does not mention for which company it is starting the production. It could be Google, Microsoft or a China-based smartphone manufacturer.
LG Display is said to be trying new technology to develop high-quality foldable panels. In order to protect organic matter from oxygen and moisture, a new atomic layer deposition (ALD) technology is being introduced instead of the existing chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology in thin film encapsulation process for multiple layers of thin films.
While Samsung has already started production of its foldable display panel and is currently the leading firm in such technology, Samsung Display is likely to supply the technology to its own company and not ship out to other manufacturers. This could make other smartphone manufacturers stir towards LG Display or BOE.
Huawei is expected to launch its foldable smartphone ahead of Samsung. Reports indicate that while Huawei plans to launch its foldable device by the end of this year, Samsung is scheduling the launch of its foldable phone during CES in January next year.
Apart from Huawei and Samsung, Xiaomi and Oppo are also said to be working on a foldable smartphone that could get launched next year. LG has also filed for multiple patents for the different design of devices and use cases of a foldable display.

HTC has recently launched the HTC U12+ flagship phone and even though it is going through financial crisis, it is still working on newer phones. One of the upcoming smartphones from the Taiwanese firm is the HTC U12 Life mid-range phone. The specifications of the smartphone have already leaked at the end of the previous month. Now, a German tech publication has shared the design of the U12 Life through a sketch. The leak reveals that the U12 Life’s rear design will be similar to the original Google Pixel smartphone and its front side is fitted with an 18:9 aspect ratio screen.

The top portion of the back panel of the Google Pixel line is of glass and the remaining part made out of metal. Some OnePlus 6 users are facing an issue with their displays. The complaint is that the display flickers under bright light. The flickering occurs when adaptive brightness is turned on.
Since the complaints started showing up online OnePlus has been collecting data from users. On Friday, it announced that an update that will fix the issue will begin to roll out to users soon.
The fix will most likely be bundled along with August’s security patch which should arrive soon. No phone has received this month’s security patch yet.
The OnePlus 6 is the latest phone from the Chinese manufacturer. It has a 6.28-inch 2280 x 1080 screen, a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of storage. There are also dual cameras (16MP + 20MP) on its rear and another 16MP sensor in front for selfies.
The Zenfone 5Z is already available for sale in some markets and on pre-order in others. If you already have it then you most definitely received an update last month. ASUS is rolling out yet another update and this time, the focus is on the camera performance.
The new update brings tons of camera improvements and new features. One of the new key features is the ability for users to capture images in RAW format. This format captures all the image data recorded by the sensor when you take a picture. There is no compression and the quality of the photo is much higher. Shooting in RAW is also great for those who want to edit their photos themselves.
Another key feature that comes with the update is support for panorama mode. There is also a button for turning on or off EIS. Below is the complete camera changelog:
Enable RAW file support
Enable Panorama feature
Add on/off button for EIS
Enable flash feature in Pro mode
Filters upgraded to Real-Time Filters
Camera Improvements
Improve HDR functionality
Improve camera stability
Improve auto exposure
Improve photo sharpness
Improve autofocus functionality
Improve slow-motion quality and file size(720p)
Boost audio quality in videos to 192kbps bitrate
The update is also said to bring Wi-Fi stability and fix some bugs.
The Zenfone 5Z is one of the cheapest Snapdragon 845-powered smartphones money can buy. It sells for less than the OnePlus 6 in Europe, India, and North America.
It comes with a 6.2-inch FHD+ display with a notch at the top. Depending on the version you buy, you either get 4GB, 6GB or 8GB of RAM along with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB of storage respectively.
It has been a few weeks since HMD Global took the wraps off the Nokia X5 in China. We already know it is getting a global launch and will launch as the Nokia 5.1 Plus but we do not know when that will be. Apparently, the launch should not be far off seeing as the device has gotten Bluetooth certified.
Five variants of the Nokia 5.1 Plus were certified and according to NokiaPowerUser are said to be for different markets. The five versions are TA-1108, TA-1120, TA-1112, TA-1102, and TA-1105. The variant with model number TA-1105 was certified in Malaysia last week.
There are speculations, HMD Global may combine the release of the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus which makes sense. Fans are eager to get their hands on both phones so there is no reason to spread their release.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus will come with a 5.8-inch screen with a 1520 x 720 resolution. It will be powered by an Helio P60 processor with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
There are just a handful of standalone VR headsets available for purchase at the moment. The popular ones are the Oculus Go by Facebook’s Oculus, the Lenovo Mirage Solo, and the HTC Vive Focus. A new one just hit the market and it is the Goblin 2 by Pico.
Pico has been making VR headsets for about 3 years now and the Goblin 2 is their third standalone VR headset. Its predecessors are the Pico Goblin and the Pico Neo.
The Pico Goblin 2 has a similar design to the Oculus Go – a rounded rectangle front, polycarbonate body, and straps for holding it in place. Pico has made some significant changes to the new model.
The Goblin 2 weighs significantly less at 268g as against the Goblin’s 400g. This should make it more comfortable to wear for long. The new headset also has smaller dimensions and comes with a redesigned remote. The headset still supports 3DoF.
What we don’t like about the design is the position of the speakers which is underneath the device. So it seems to be pumping sounds downwards. We can’t say how well the speakers sound unless we get a hands-on review. However, there is a 3.5mm audio jack which is also at the bottom of the device.
The major changes are on the inside. The Pico Goblin 2 comes with two 3.5-inch TFT displays for a combined resolution of 2880 x 1600 (3K), unlike the original Goblin that has a single 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 display. The refresh rate of the displays have also been bumped to 90Hz and the field of view is 101°.
The Goblin 2 also swaps out the Snapdragon 820 of its predecessor for the Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform and runs Android 8.1 Oreo. RAM is 4GB and built-in storage is 32GB (UFS 2.1) but you can add more storage via a MicroSD card slot (256GB max.).
Even though the Goblin 2 is smaller, Pico has kept the 3500mAh battery capacity of its predecessor. The manufacturer says you should get about 3 hours of use from it. The device charges via a USB-C 3.0 port and has support for USB OTG.
When it comes to content, users can purchase or load apps and content from Pico’s own store or HTC’s Vive Port.
