The Nokia 9 PureView is its second phone to get the Android 10 update after the Nokia 8.1. The Android 10 roll-out has been pretty slow for a company that has received praise for being great at software support. It appears HMD Global listened to complaints and has decided to speed things up seeing has it has just been announced that Android 10 is now rolling out to the Nokia 7.1.

Nokia 7.1 scores another perfect 10!

The update brings exciting features such as smart replies, new notification customizations, more control over location data, dark mode, and new gesture-based navigation.

The Nokia 7.1 was announced in October 2018. It has a 5.84-inch 1080 x 2280 display with a notch at the top and a thick chin. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 636 processor with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of expandable storage.

There is an 8MP camera inside the notch while a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup sits on the back. The Nokia 7.1 packs a 3060mAh battery with support for 18W fast charge. It also has NFC, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and an audio jack.

When it launched, it ran Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and later got updated to Android 9 Pie. HMD Global promises two years of OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates, so we expect the Nokia 7.1 will get Android 11 too since that should be released within its second year of life.

Based on the Android 10 roadmap, the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nokia 7 Plus are next in line to get updated. Let’s see if HMD Global can pull off one more device update before the year ends.

The Finnish smartphone company had first partnered with Pixelworks for the Nokia 7.1 which sports an impressive PureDisplay panel that enhances the viewing experience on the smartphone. It is also the first smartphone that comes with Pixelworks’ Iris processor coupled with Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, delivering impressive visuals on an LCD panel.

The display panel of the Nokia 7.1 — PureDisplay — which embeds the technology of Pixelworks is what makes the smartphone stand out in the overcrowded mid-range smartphone segment. It offers superior HDR tone mapping and advanced viewing experience for HDR10 videos and pictures. It also enables local contrast and sharpness enhancement.

Now, the technology will not be limited to just Nokia 7.1 and will be extended to other Nokia-branded devices as well. The company has confirmed that the future Nokia smartphone will come with technology powered by Pixelworks.

Design

If you want to show a phone with a premium and stunning design to your friends and relatives, then you should go for the Oppo K1. It has the highest screen-to-body ratio and a wonderful, reflective glass back that you can get in gradient colors. Thanks to the in-display fingerprint reader, the back cover is almost totally clean with the exception of the dual camera setup placed horizontally. Even though I like the Oppo K1 more, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is still a wonderful device and it also has the best build quality. Indeed, it is water resistant and it has a very strong glass. Both Oppo K1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 are protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Nokia 7.1 is definitely less attractive for me, but it is more compact thanks to its smaller display.

Even though it is a midrange device and usually mid-rangers come with average displays, HMD Global put many efforts on the display found on the Nokia 7.1. It is not just a classic IPS panel with the Full HD+ resolution, but it has the HDR10 technology for better color reproduction, something that you can rarely find on devices with such an affordable price. It is a compact display, smaller than most of the actual midrange devices, so it is also easy to use with one hand. The second place goes to the AMOLED panel found on the Oppo K1, that also integrates an in-display fingerprint reader. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has just an average IPS panel just like most of the midrange phones, so it is nothing special.

Specs & Software

If you are looking for the phone with the best performance you should choose either the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 or the Oppo K1. I would choose the first because Oppo K1 lacks a micro SD slot to expand the internal storage. It is powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset that is one of the best midrange SoCs out there. And it also comes with up to 6 GB of RAM, just like the Oppo K1. Nokia 7.1 is inferior due to its lower-end Snapdragon 636, but unlike its opponents, it comes with Android One instead of a customized user interface, so it is still very smooth and reliable.

Camera

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is equipped with an impressive sensor on the rear and it wins the camera comparison. It boasts the latest 48 MP sensor by Samsung that is able to capture a lot of detail, even with low light. Right after the Redmi Note 7, we want to award the Oppo K1 for its outstanding 25 MP selfie camera. Nokia 7.1 is a good camera phone as well and its dual rear camera with Zeiss optics and dual pixel autofocus clicks very sharp and bright shots, but its selfie snapper is just an average front camera.

Battery

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is a battery life champion thanks to its 4000 mAh unit and it also supports the fast Quick Charge 4.0 technology. Oppo K1 is not equipped with a fast charging technology but it has a long battery life as well thanks to its 3600 mAh. Nokia 7.1 has just a typical one-day battery with an average 3060 mAh capacity.

Price

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 hitten China with a record-breaking price: just $147/€130 for the base variant. And in my opinion, it wins this comparison for both value for money and specifications. Oppo K1 costs about €250/$284, while you can get Nokia 7.1 for about €270/$307 thanks to online street prices.

Well, today, HMD Global has officially launched the Nokia 7.1 in India.

Priced at Rs. 19,999, which roughly converts to $287, the Nokia 7.1 will be available for purchase in India from 7th December. It will be available through Nokia’s own online store as well as other leading mobile retailers across the country in two colors — Glossy Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel.

There are also several offers associated with the purchase of Nokia 7.1 in India. Airtel is offering 1TB of 4G data for plans starting at Rs. 199. On the other hand, the postpaid users get 120GB of additional data along with three months of Netflix subscription and one year of Amazon Prime subscription for selected plans.

To recall, the Nokia 7.1 features a 5.84-inch Full HD+ “PureDisplay” with 19:9 screen aspect ratio and a notch on top. The company claims that the PureDisplay’s internal HDR can convert the SDR content into the HDR in real-time.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s mid-range Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor, which is claimed to deliver 40 percent improved performance over its predecessor Snapdragon 630. It is coupled with Adreno 509 GPU and comes in two models — 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM.

However, the company has only launched the 4GB RAM model in India, which packs 64GB of internal storage. It also comes with a microSD card slot that enables storage expansion up to 400GB.

For photography, the phone comes with a new Zeiss imaging solution, featuring a dual camera setup on the back that’s stacked vertically in the top-center position. It comes with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor for depth sensing.

The camera comes with features like True Life HDR, Bokeh mode, Pro Camera mode, Livestream functionality, and Bothie. On the front side, it comes equipped with an AI-backed 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The Nokia 7.1 is a part of Google‘s Android One programme and runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box. The Finnish company has promised the Android Pie update by the end of this month and future updates for two years.

Well, that is on paper and n some region but apparently, HMD only made the lower 3GB+32GB version available in Europe. The news making the rounds is that the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant will be available to buyers in Europe from this Friday.

Nokia 7.1 adopts a design that isn’t very much different from that of the Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6). It has a notch on top of the display but at the rear, there is a dual camera setup instead of a single sensor. The device features a 5.84-inch Full HD+ “PureDisplay” with a 19:9 screen aspect ratio. The Nokia 7.1 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo under Google’s Android One program and comes with a promise for monthly security updates for three years after its launch.

On the camera end, the Nokia 7.1 packs a 12MP+5MP dual camera setup at the rear with Zeiss optics. The camera comes with features like True Life HDR, Bokeh mode, Pro Camera mode, Livestream functionality, and Bothie. On the front side, it comes equipped with an AI-backed 8MP snapper for taking selfies and video calling. The Nokia 7.1 gets its juice from a 3060mAh battery with fast-charging that fills about 45% of the empty battery in 30 minutes. Other features include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as connectivity options such as Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS and NFC. It is available in Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel with a copper accent.

For the price, the 4GB/64GB version, which is now up for pre-order in the Czech Republic, comes with a price tag of CZK8,499 or about €330. This price is notably cheaper than the launch RRP of €349.

The mid-range phone arrived with a notched display design and Snapdragon 636. Today, the Finnish confirmed through its Nokia Mobile Weibo account that it will be holding an unveil event on Oct. 16 to announce a new smartphone. The teaser image shared by the company suggests that the company will be debuting the Nokia X7 smartphone on the said date.

Some may speculate that HMD Global may debut the Nokia 7.1 smartphone in China on Oct. 16. However, the camera module shown in the below teaser is bit different from the camera setup of the Nokia 7.1.

In the teaser image, ZEISS branding can be seen clearly mentioned between the two camera sensors. Also, the dual-tone LED flash is placed on left side of the vertical camera. The Nokia 7.1 also features ZEISS branding between the two cameras present on its rear. Unlike the upcoming Nokia phone, the Nokia 7.1 has the LED flash placed below the dual camera module. Also, it appears to be the very same Nokia TA-1131 smartphone that was certified by TENAA around two weeks ago. Hence, it is now being that the Finnish firm may announce the Nokia X7 smartphone on Oct. 16.

The Nokia X7 teaser image reveals that it will impress the audience with low-light photography prowess. Rumors have it that the Nokia X7 will be featuring a 6.2-inch display that will carry support for full HD+ resolution. The Snapdragon 710 chipset is expected to power the smartphone. It may arrive in two models such as 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. The handset may include a 3,400mAh battery and it may arrive with Android 8.1 Oreo OS preinstalled.

There is no information available on the pricing of the Nokia X7. The 32 GB storage + 3 GB RAM and 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM editions of the Nokia 7.1 were introduced with respective pricing of $349 and $400. The Nokia X7 is expected to debut with Nokia 7.1 Plus moniker outside of China. You have to find a compromise and renounce to important high-end specs if you want to save some money. The trick not to make a disappointing purchase if you are not searching for anything particular is to get a well-balanced device at least when it comes to the main specs such as the hardware side, battery and sometimes even the camera department. Nokia 7.1, Honor View 10 Lite and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE are very good choices if you do not want to spend a lot of money, and this comparison will tell you which one is the best.

Design

If you are one of those users who like to have a beautiful handset, it may be a very good idea to grab a unit of the Honor View 10 Lite. Thanks to its reflective glass back available in four different colors and a display covering almost the whole front panel (more than 84 percent screen-to-body ratio with a notch and a tiny chin), it is definitely the most impressive handset. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is the most original one with its sharp shape, and it is also the sleekest and most compact. I would pick Xiaomi Mi 8 SE for its originality.

Display

Xiaomi Mi 8 SE has the best display: an outstanding Super AMOLED panel with a size of 5.88 inches and a Full HD+ resolution. It supports both the HDR10 technology and DCI-P3 coverage for very brilliant and realistic colors. It is even a compact screen, so it is not hard to use even with one hand. Nokia 7.1 takes the second place as it features the HDR10 technology as well which provides very nice colors. Huawei Honor View 10 Lite has the worst viewing quality but it is the biggest one with a huge diagonal of 6.5 inches.

Specs & Software

The winner is Xiaomi Mi 8 SE even when it comes to hardware and performance. It features the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset which is the best option in the Android market if we exclude the 800 series found on the best flagship phones. So it provides the smoothest and fastest performance in every scenario. Unfortunately, this device does not have a micro SD slot unlike its opponents, but it is available with up to 128 GB of internal storage. Nokia 7.1 is the only device to have Android One installed,

Camera

If you are going to get one of these handsets, do not expect a huge camera quality. When it comes to cameras, these devices are just normal mid-rangers. This does not mean that their cameras are disappointing as they are much more than sufficient, but they are far from flagships. These devices feature similar camera specifications, so we can not choose a winner until we test Nokia 7.1 which is still not available to purchase.

Battery

Given its bigger body, Huawei Honor View 10 Lite has also a bigger battery than its concurrence. It features a lithium unit with a capacity of 3750 mAh which is able to last more than Nokia 7.1 and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and their below-3200 mAh batteries. However, you will need some more time to fully charge it as it does not features a very fast charging technology.

Price

Judging from the overall specification and prices of these phones, I would definitely pick Xiaomi Mi 8 SE due to its better display, compact dimensions, and higher performance. It costs about €300/$344 (price varies depending on the region and stores), while Nokia 7.1 and Honor View 10 Lite cost €319/$366 and €300/$344 respectively.

But there are several people looking for some specs in midrange smartphones which are only present on flagships. Nokia 7.1, Xiaomi Pocophone F1 and Huawei Nova 3i are three handsets which are able to provide high-end specs at a modest price, and if you are one of these users one of these devices may be the one for you. Given the high amount of difference between them, we published this comparison which should help you clear your ideas about their specs and potentialities.

Design

Are you searching for a real flagship-like design with an original and elegant body? Then go for the Huawei Nova 3i. Also known as Huawei P Smart+ in the European market, this device sports a glass back available in gradient colors, and it also has a very high screen-to-body ratio just like the most expensive flagships actually in the market. Nokia 7.1 is a cool device too in terms of aesthetics, and besides its beautiful glass back it has very compact dimensions thanks to its smaller display.

Display

Nokia 7.1 has the smallest display, but also the one with the best viewing quality, and it wins the display comparison. Its good viewing quality comes from a high pixel density and the HDR10 technology able to enrich colors, which is very rare to find on devices which are not flagships.

Specs & Software

If hardware and performance are your main concern, then you should opt for the Xiaomi Pocophone F1. It has nothing to envy to every flagship out there, but it comes with an upper-midrange price. Under the hood, it has the best Qualcomm’s SoC: the Snapdragon 845, paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. You can run every app and every game with the max performance thanks to this handset. It even comes with a customized MIUI based on performance enhancements. Nokia 7.1 has the stock Android One, while Huawei Nova 3i comes with the EMUI.

Camera

If you want the best rear camera department, we suggest you grab a unit of the Nokia 7.1 as it will surely provide a high detail and good performance with low light thanks to its bright aperture. Indeed, if you want the best front camera, choose the Huawei Nova 3i as it features a dual front camera with a whopping 24 MP resolution.

Battery

The biggest battery belongs to Xiaomi Pocophone F1 with a capacity of 4000 mAh. Given that this is a gaming-oriented phone, it is obvious that the Chinese company opted for a big battery, as games are the most demanding activities causing the highest battery drain.

Price

Unless you are looking for a decent design, Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is definitely the most interesting choice of the trio and I would pick it for its flagship-level hardware and its long battery life. You can currently get a unit of Xiaomi Pocophone F1 for less than €300/$346, Nokia 7.1 is hitting the shelves with a €319/$367 price tag and Huawei Nova 3i costs about €300/$346.

Design

I like Nokia 7.1 because besides being original, it is a very compact phone and it fits very well in a pocket. It comes with a glass back, a notch and the Gorilla Glass 3 protection and it is the most interesting when it comes to aesthetics and build quality. I put Huawei Mate 20 Lite at the second place, but it is still a very original device with elegant looks, while Honor Play is just a classic metal unibody handset.

Display

Nokia 7.1 has definitely the most interesting display as it supports the HDR10 technology for richer colors. However, note that this is also the smallest panel of the trio as the other two devices have a wide 6.3-inch screen which could be more comfortable for advanced users.

Specs & Software

Honor Play is the best smartphone in terms of hardware as it can offer flagship-level performance. Indeed, it has the Kirin 970 chipset that is the same you can find on the Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 10 Pro. It is also the first phone with the GPU Turbo technology which enhances graphics performance by up to 60 percent while reducing energy consumption by up to 30 percent. Nokia 7.1 and Huawei Mate 20 Lite are more or less at the same level, with their midrange SoCs. Nokia 7.1 has Android One installed (with faster and constant updates), while Huawei phones come with the highly customized EMUI.

Camera

The best camera sensors are on board of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite: it features a total of four cameras, two on the front and two on the back, and both setups come with high resolutions. Both the rear and the front camera setups have a wide angle sensor to increase the field of view and they capture stunning details.

Battery

Huawei Mate 20 Lite and Honor Play have a 3750 mAh battery, almost 700 mAh bigger than the lithium unit of the Nokia 7.1. So, they will probably last much more than its opponent. On the other hand, Nokia 7.1 is able to charge faster due to its smaller battery. And even though it has just 3060 mAh unit, it should be optimized nicely with Android One and it should provide a good battery life due to the very efficient SoC.

Price

With the actual price, Nokia 7.1 does not convince me so much like other HMD Global’s devices and I believe there is something better, such as Honor Play, in this price range. You should choose it if you want the best performance, while if you care more about the cameras, then go for the Huawei Mate 20 Lite. Nokia 7.1 starts from €319 (which roughly translates into $367), Huawei Mate 20 Lite can be purchased for less than €400 or $460 (even €350 thanks to street prices) and Honor Play currently costs about €320 or $360. Before being the winner of this comparison, the Honor Play is also the most convenient device you can get in this trio. If you want to know another device with a similar level of performance, check the Xiaomi Pocophone F1.

While the company has not mentioned which device is plans to launch, it’s believed that HMD Global is planning to launch the Nokia 7.1 and the Nokia 7.1 Plus (aka Nokia X7) in the Indian market. It’s noteworthy that both the smartphones are expected to launch globally on 4th October.

The Nokia 7.1 Plus is rumoured to feature a notched display, just like the Nokia 5.1 Plus and the Nokia 6.1 Plus. On the other hand, the Nokia 7.1 is expected to come with a normal display, without any kind of notch.

The Nokia 7.1 could feature a 6-inch screen that will carry support for an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

It’s bigger variant, the Nokia 7.1 Plus, is also speculated to be driven by Snapdragon 710 12nm chipset, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. We are also expecting a bigger display and higher capacity battery for the Plus variant.

Both the smartphones will be a part of Google‘s Android One programme, and thus, there’s a possibility that the phones could be running the latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system out-of-the-box.

It will be available in Steel or Blue and have a €399 (~$462) price tag. The price tag is high but it is the same as that of the Nokia 7 Plus when it was announced this year.

The Nokia 7.1 is expected to arrive with a notch-less screen whereas the 7.1 Plus will be equipped with a notched display. Like the recent Plus models from the company, the Nokia 7.1 Plus is expected to release as Nokia X7 in China. Freshly leaked hands-on photos of a new Nokia phone has surfaced today. Since the images only reveal the rear side of the phone, it is difficult to identity whether it is a Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 7.1 Plus.

The new images reveal that the handset is equipped with a glass rear and a metallic frame. It features vertical dual camera setup followed by a fingerprint reader on the upper half of the rear panel.

In the above image, the alleged Nokia X7 can be seen in silver white color. The rear design of the phone is not very different from the Nokia X6. The vertical dual camera setup did not sit flush on the rear of the phone. The images shown below suggest that the handset will be also arriving in a new copper brown color.

Fresh information revealed by NokiaPowerUser claims that HMD Global will be launching both Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 7.1 Plus smartphones in the near future. The report also reveals that the Nokia 7.1 will feature a regular display whereas the Nokia 7.1 Plus will continue to feature notched screens like the other Plus models like Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus.

Earlier this year, HMD Global had launched the Nokia 7 Plus smartphone. It is now being speculated that the rumored Nokia 7.1 smartphone will be arriving as a successor for the Nokia 7 Plus phone. There is a possibility that the Nokia 7.1 may feature a 6-inch screen that will carry support for an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Snapdragon 710 chipset is rumored to power the Nokia 7.1 along with 4 GB of RAM. The device is tipped to feature an internal storage of 64 GB.

The Nokia 7.1 Plus is also speculated to be driven by Snapdragon 710. Since it is Plus variant, it is tipped to arrive more amount of RAM and larger internal storage. Hence, it may come equipped with 6 GB of RAM and an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. The handset may also feature a bigger screen and battery. Both the devices may release Android One smartphones.
