Leaked information from Android Headlines has revealed full pricing and feature details for Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 lineup. According to the leak, the Pixel 10 will start at $799 in the US and $1,099 in Canada for 128GB. The 256GB version will be $899 in the US and $1,229 in Canada. Buyers are expected to get six months of Google AI Pro, six months of Fitbit Premium, and three months of YouTube Premium.

The Pixel 10 Pro is likely to keep the $999 starting price for 128GB ($1,349 CAD). The 256GB model is listed at $1,099 ($1,479 CAD), 512GB at $1,219 ($1,649 CAD), and 1TB at $1,449 ($1,949 CAD). These models are also expected to include a year of Google AI Pro, six months of Fitbit Premium, and three months of YouTube Premium.

For the Pixel 10 Pro XL, the leaked pricing starts at $1,199 for 256GB ($1,629 CAD), with 512GB at $1,319 ($1,799 CAD), and 1TB at $1,549 ($2,099 CAD). While this looks like a price jump, it matches the 256GB Pixel 9 Pro XL pricing from last year.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is reportedly keeping the same pricing: $1,799 for 256GB ($2,399 CAD), $1,919 for 512GB ($2,569 CAD), and $2,149 for 1TB ($2,869 CAD).

Previous leaks also suggest hardware upgrades. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold may feature a 6.4-inch outer screen, an 8-inch main display, a more durable hinge made from multi-alloy steel, and an aluminum body. It may be the first foldable to carry an IP68 rating, and is expected to offer up to 72 hours of battery life with Extreme Battery Saver.

The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL are expected to retain their 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch screens, include a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide with autofocus, and a 48MP 5x telephoto with 100x Pro Res Zoom and 8K video. Battery life may reach 100 hours.

The base Pixel 10 may offer a 48MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide, and a new 11MP telephoto lens with 20x Pro Res Zoom, all packed into a 6.3-inch body.

Many immediately claimed that Apple is copying Google’s iconic bar shaped camera module, more popularly known as Visor. However, it is still a stretch to call this an idea stolen by Apple. Regardless, the images were just leaks, and there is no official word regarding such a drastic redesign.

But this did not stop Google from releasing a funny new ad. In its latest #BestPhonesForever series episode, the Pixel and the iPhone can be seen conversing with one another. The two are portrayed as friends, but the iPhone is shown to clearly lag behind in terms of features. The video is shot in a typical podcast formula with the duo addressing the recent rumors. The iPhone starts it off by saying, “Can you imagine me doing the same thing you did first years later,” which is meant to have Apple come across as naive.

But before a proper response, the iPhone continues to list all the features that Apple brought a year or two behind Google. This included features like Night Mode, which made its first appearance in 2018, while Apple introduced it on iPhones in 2019. Similarly, the Magic Eraser was debuted in 2021 but only managed to come to the iPhone in 2024. All of these are clear jabs thrown by Google, but the fun and lighthearted manner of the video added a hilarious touch to it.

While the Tensor G4 is optimized for AI and efficiency, the Snapdragon 8 Elite outperforms it in raw power and efficiency, especially for gaming and intensive tasks.

In terms of battery, the S25 Ultra has a 5000mAh battery with 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, whereas the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a slightly larger 5060mAh battery but with slower 37W wired charging.

The Pixel’s 23W wireless charging with the Pixel Stand is a plus, but Samsung’s faster-wired charging makes it the better choice for users needing quick top-ups.

Camera

Google has finally started working on “Cross-device services” to provide a more seamless experience. Since it’s still in the roll-out phase, it might not be available on all devices yet. However, once it is, you can activate it in your Android device settings under Settings > Google > Devices & Sharing > Cross-Device.

Cross-device services enable simultaneous calls and password-free internet sharing across your devices

Cross-Device Services enable smooth data transfer between devices signed in with the same Google Account. According to images shared by 9to5Google, two new features are underway: Call Casting and Internet Sharing (Instant Hotspot).

Call Casting feature allows you to effortlessly cast an ongoing video call to another device and continue the call there. Currently, it’s only available for Google Meet calls, but we can expect support for more apps in the future. Let’s say you joined a video call on your phone, but you want to view it on your tablet since it has a bigger display. Instead of ending the call and rejoining on your tablet, you can simply cast the call with one tap.

Instant Hotspot makes sharing your internet connection easier. After adding your devices to the same Google Account, you can toggle the Instant Hotspot feature to share the internet without manually activating the hotspot on one device and entering the password on another. One tap will instantly share the internet connection without entering any password.

Google’s new Cross-Device Services are in beta and are being gradually released to devices. You can access it in Google Play Services version 24.28.34.

The new details on Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 series continue to surface. Previously, real-life images revealed the design of Pixel 9 series. Now, the Pixel 9 series has received FCC certification and Canada’s REL certification.

According to the latest details shared by MySmartPrice, both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have hardware versions identified as GUR25 and GEC77. You can think of these as simple model numbers.

The newly surfaced certificates confirm that the Pixel 9 Pro (GEC77), Pixel 9 Pro XL (GZC4K), and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (GGH2X) feature 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, UWB, 5G, and thread radio connectivity.

FCC certification reveals that the regular Google Pixel 9 (GUR25) has dimensions of 152.8mm x 72mm. Considering that Pixel 8’s dimensions are 150.5mm x 70.8mm, we can say that Pixel 9 is a little bit larger than its predecessor. Google is good at making compact smartphones, but they are not tiny enough as Samsung’s regular models in S lineup, the S24 for instance.

Google will be releasing two Pro models, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, marking three years since the introduction of the initial Pro smartphone with Pixel 6 series in 2021.

Google is apparently planning on exporting its Pixel series of smartphones to the US and Europe from India. It is looking to establish the region as a key export hub with its commercial production set to kick off soon from two of its contract manufacturing partners.

Is India a new manufacturing hub for Google?

According to a MoneyControl report, sources have stated that the production will be carried out through Foxconn and Dixon subsidiary Padget Electronics. Trial production has already begun in Tamil Nadu (South Indian State) with Foxconn, which is a major manufacturer of Apple devices as well. The source close to the matter added that Dixon is set to add Google to its customer list in the second half of the year through its partnership with Compal. It will be sharing production with Foxconn.

The base variant of the Pixel phones will be made by Dixon Technologies, while Foxconn will be responsible for the higher-end Pro variants. Google has yet to make any official announcement, but this could go official sometime in the second half of this year. The report adds that it plans on shipping India made Pixel phones to the European market first. These same units would also address demand in the US later on.

India as an export hub would help diversify its manufacturing and the region offers low labor costs along with local incentives. This news also arrives following the company’s announcement to unveil the Pixel 9 series arriving ahead of its typical Pixel launch cycle. Google’s next gen flagship is set to launch on 13th August 2024, over its original October-November announcement. Real life images of the Pixel 9 also surfaced recently, showcasing the device in a Pink color option. More reports regarding this should surface soon, so stick around for more.

Microsoft’s Recall AI feature takes continuous screenshots as you use your computer, storing the information locally. This feature is available exclusively on “Copilot PCs.” While it may seem like a privacy risk, it allows users to access past information easily. For example, you can ask Microsoft Recall about a file you were working on, even if the specific application is not running. It can retain data as the software continuously saving what you do on your computer.

According to recent news shared by ITHome, Google might introduce a similar feature. Among the new AI features Google plans to unveil are “Screenshots” and “Studio.” Both features are new. While the exact functionality of the “Screenshots” feature isn’t clear yet, the description suggests you’ll be able to retrieve information from previously saved screenshots (Find the info you need from your screenshots). Unlike Microsoft Recall, which automatically captures screenshots, Google’s approach may only gather information the screenshots you took on your own.

This feature will allow you to gather information from previously saved screenshots. For instance, if you took a screenshot of a place on Google Maps two weeks ago and can’t remember the name, you can ask Google’s AI, Gemini, “What places did I look at on Google Maps before?” This will save you from digging through your gallery for the thing you look for.

Both watches are likely to have the same specs, with the only difference being a larger screen and a larger battery in the XL model.

Google Pixel Watch 3 XL features only one button, the digital crown. According to leaks, the Pixel Watch 3 XL will come with a 1.45-inch display, slightly larger than the previously released Pixel Watches with a 1.2-inch display. Additionally, the thickness of the watch is 13.89mm. The dimensions of the Watch 3 XL are 45mm x 45mm x 13.89mm.

The compact Pixel is finally here! Rumors suggested for quite some time that Google was about to unveil a more compact Pro model, and now it’s finally here: Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. While we can’t call it “official” yet, the leaks reveal the hands-on images of upcoming Pixel series. The introduction of two distinct Pro models isn’t entirely unprecedented, as Apple has been following a similar strategy with its iPhones, releasing “Pro” and “Pro Max” models that boast superior camera hardware.

Pixel 9 series hands-on images

According to Rozetked‘s leaks, the Pixel 9 series features three different models: Pixel 9 (Tokay), Pixel 9 Pro (Caiman), and Pixel 9 Pro XL (Komodo). As per Rozetked’s details, they have the Pixel 9 coming with a 12GB+128GB RAM and storage, while the Pixel 9 Pro models have a 16GB+128GB configuration.

Considering that 128GB is now the minimum storage option in today’s smartphone market, it’s quite pleasing to see the regular Pixel 9 come with 12GB of RAM, especially since all storage and RAM configurations of the Pixel 8 came with 8GB of RAM only.

Pixel 9 features a 6.24-inch screen, Pixel 9 Pro has a 6.34-inch screen, and Pixel 9 Pro XL comes with a 6.73-inch screen. Considering that the regualr Pixel 8 had a 6.20-inch screen, it’s noteworthy that Google now offers Pro cameras and maintaining the compact size at the same time. Additionally, PPI values of the screens are 425, 493, and 487 respectively. Furthermore, the bezels of the Pixel 9 are slightly thicker compared to the Pro models. All phones displays’ feature a 120Hz refresh rate.

While the regular Pixel 9 comes with a 0.5x and 1x dual-camera setup. Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a triple-camera setup consisting of 0.5x, 1x, and 5x lenses (all cameras are 50 MP). Additionally, while the Pixel 9 lacks UWB, the 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL support it.

In a new trademark that Google applied for, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the US Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) revealed that they are working on a project called “RealFill”.

AI needs more of your images to give better results

Android Authority team points out that RealFill won’t be a downloadable software; similar to Google‘s Magic Editor in Pixel phones, all your edits are actually not processed on-device but made on Google’s own servers.

This future AI feature is essentially similar to Adobe’s “Generative Fill” feature, although Google appears to be trying to get rid of any imperfections in photos. With RealFill, users will be able to generate entirely new image by using five previously taken photos as a base. You will somewhat train the AI algorithm with your previously taken 5 different images, and then the AI will apply the image expansion on your target image.

Google’s AI algorithm in development aims to create a more accurate image expansion with the different images users provide. Thus, instead of creating random objects unexpectedly during the expand process, the algorithm will generate much more realistic images by referencing users’ base images.

RealFill hasn’t been publicly released yet, but it comes with some limitations. Unwanted outcomes could appear in the final image if there are significant differences between the target image and the images used as references that the user provided. It is obvious from the shared RealFill demos that the base photos are extremely similar to one another; in fact, we could say that they are just different angles on the same scene. Currently, there are many image expansion solutions available powered by AI, although they sometimes work well, most of the time they can result in a disappointment. It’s unknown when Google will release RealFill to the public; perhaps we might see this feature in the Pixel 9 series, but for now, everything is very unclear.

The past 24 hours has been pretty exciting for tech enthusiasts, with Redmi unwrapping two exciting products, the Redmi Pad Pro and the Redmi Turbo 3. Google Photos is getting a major upgrade! Following earlier reports hinting at potentially offering the Magic Editor for free to all users, Google has now announced it’s making several AI-powered editing tools, previously exclusive to Pixel phones and Google One subscribers, free for all users starting May 15th.

Magic Eraser, a favorite for removing unwanted objects from photos, is now free for all Google Photos users. But only Pixel users get unlimited free use, others get only 10 free edits per month.

In other interesting news, Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable smartphone models, the MIX Flip 4 and Fold 4, will soon be unveiled. Thankfully, we don’t have to speculate too much about these models, as leaks have shed light on their features.

The Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 features a quad-camera system with upgraded sensors compared to its predecessor. The highlight is the 50MP Sony IMX800 main sensor (also known as the Light Hunter 800), found in devices like the Redmi K70 Pro. This sensor offers a large 1/1.55-inch size for enhanced image quality.

We recently learned that the Xiaomi SU7 has a special Super Power-Saving Mode that caps the speed at 90 kmph, turns down the AC, and deactivates other premium features to extend its range. BOSE has announced its Ultra Open earbuds in India, featuring a unique design. It features an open ear design, meaning it doesn’t obstruct the ear canal by having to be plugged inside the ear. Pixel Experience project was initially launched in 2017, aiming to bring some exclusive Pixel features to non-Pixel Android devices. This allowed users to enjoy certain Pixel-exclusive features and the aesthetically pleasing stock Android UI provided by Google on their non-Pixel devices.

Henrique Silva, the owner of the Pixel Experience project, made an announcement on his website, stating, “Everything has to come to an end, sometime…” The Pixel Experience project is officially coming to a close.

While Henrique Silva did not provide detailed reasons for ending the project, he mentioned that the Pixel Experience website will remain accessible, meaning users can still download and install old builds. However, there won’t be any further updates. The termination of development for Pixel Experience, which was quite popular within the Android community, is indeed saddening. Google‘s Pixel phones have long been distinguished by the now-iconic “G” logo adorning their backs. Interestingly, despite this logo’s presence since the first Pixel launched in 2016, Google only recently filed a trademark application for it with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

It’s definitely intriguing why Google waited until now to patent such an important logo

This move has sparked some discussion. Some see it as a strategic effort to further solidify the Pixel brand identity in a crowded smartphone market. The “G” logo has undoubtedly become a hallmark of Pixel phones, similar to the Apple logo on iPhones or the Samsung logo on Galaxy phones. Its consistent placement, first at the bottom and then moving to the center position with the Pixel 6 series in 2021 is a good sign for the company’s brand recognition.

However, others question the timing. Trademarking a logo already used for years might seem like an afterthought. Some speculate it could be a defensive measure against potential logo imitators or a way to leverage the brand recognition for future Pixel products beyond smartphones, say, tablets.

The trademark application itself offers some clues. It details a sketch of the “G” logo situated in the center of a phone’s back and specifies registration for the mobile phone category only, covering telephones, mobile phones, cellular phones, and smartphones. It’s worth noting that Pixel tablets also feature the same “G” logo, but this trademark application doesn’t cover tablets. This could suggest Google might have separate trademark plans for its tablet line, or it might simply be prioritizing smartphones for now.

Google had introduced the first developer preview version of Android 15, and despite being the initial release of Android 15, it brought along some intriguing features. However, the Pixel 5 series devices did not receive the Android 15 update. Since Pixel 5 devices won’t get official software support anymore, it might be impossible to port GCam app on non-Pixel Android devices. The oldest Pixel devices to receive the Android 15 update belong to the Pixel 6 series, and these devices come with the Tensor chipset, Google’s own custom chipset.

Google currently doesn’t support any Snapdragon powered Pixel

Google introduced the Pixel 5 in 2020, and software update support officially just ended in 2024. Pixel 5 is a unique phone as it features the last Snapdragon chipset offered by Google. Google’s modern devices, Pixel 6 and newer ones come with the custom Tensor CPU.

After introducing their own chipset, Google now has full control over the processor, something that was not possible with Snapdragon chipsets before. Google may require exclusive Pixel features to work only with a Tensor processor, making it potentially more challenging to use/port Pixel features on non-Pixel devices.

Additionally, Qualcomm DSP support might be removed from Google Camera, which is needed for processing images on Qualcomm chipsets. This means that even if the GCam application is ported to different devices, the image processing time may significantly increase making the GCam ports obsolete.

We are not claiming that all of these will happen, but it is now possible considering Google no longer officially supports any Snapdragon device. However, there is a bigger issue, and that is the poor performance of Tensor chipsets.

Despite Google making their own custom chipset since 2021, the Tensor CPUs still face significant challenges in terms of power and efficiency. Even today’s modern Tensor CPUs provide a performance similar to Qualcomm’s flagship processors introduced about three years ago. Modern smartphones have excellent battery life and beefy processing power; therefore, Google should either use Snapdragon chipsets again or Tensor needs to make substantial progress.

The first developer preview version of Android 15 has been released today, featuring minor privacy improvements and new features. As it is specifically designed for developers, it may not be suitable for daily driving so better wait for a little if you want to try it on your Pixel device. Google announced they might release the public beta version between March and April.

Android 15 will allow you to have more control over the ads you see in a more detailed manner. A new menu named “Ads” has been added under the “Privacy & security” section in settings, where you can check which apps are tracking your activity on your phone to show ads.

Some apps can provide personalized ads by tracking your activity on your phone. With the FLEDGE API in Android 15, you can now prevent apps from tracking you. This doesn’t mean that the ads on your device will be completely removed, but it ensures that your data will not be shared with the chosen 3rd party app.

Another new feature in Android 15 is the ability to perform partial screen recording. Instead of recording or casting the entire screen while screen recording, you can now record only a specific part of the app. This can be useful for users who frequently record their phone screen or have to cast their phone screen during a video call.

Another welcomed improvement is that Google is finally working on a better camera optimization for 3rd party apps. Images captured in a low-light environment will now be processed in real-time, giving you a simultaneous bright preview, just like it appears after tapping the shutter button. 3rd party apps can also benefit from improved preview images.

Pixel 5 series won’t get Android 15 update

The bad news is that the Android 15 Developer Preview is currently only available for the Pixel 6 series and newer Pixels. This means that the software support for devices in the Pixel 5 series has officially ended. Android 15 will be available for Pixel 6a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet. Get the Android 15 for your Pixel here.

Android 14 Storage Access Issue Details

The issue is prominent on the Pixel 6 and the later models which have multiple profiles on the phone while running the latest Android 14. The phones that have “users, guests, restricted profiles, and child users” profiles without their respective Google accounts signed in within the primary user or work profiles are plagued with the issue. In response to the widespread issue, Google made a detailed response on how they are working to mitigate the issues.

The issues can trigger multiple issues, “Depending on the device, this issue can result in the primary user being unable to access media storage. Alternatively, the issue can reboot the device with a “Factory data reset” message. If this message is accepted, data that is not backed up can be lost, and if it is declined, the device repeatedly reboots with the “Pixel is starting” message.”

Google already pushed a Google Play System update to control the issue. The users can head to Settings > Security & Privacy > System & update > Google Play system to grab the latest update.

The company is aiming to rectify the issue without requiring a factory reset. Well, the fingers are crossed until a full resolution for the affected devices takes place.

We hope such issues don’t get triggered on other smartphones like Galaxy S23 which are receiving the Android 14-based One UI 6 update today in some countries.

It’s a win for your wallet, allowing you to hold on to your device for a longer period without worrying about software becoming obsolete. It should be noted that Google has previously praised smartphone brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung etc. for providing a commendable number of software updates and security patches to their devices.

The eco-friendly benefits can’t be overstated, especially when you consider that an estimated five billion phones were discarded in 2022 alone. The extended support is expected to encourage longer phone usage, reducing the number of devices ending up in landfills and contributing to pollution. Although Google‘s decision won’t eliminate the problem entirely, it’s a step in the right direction.

While Apple’s support lasts around five to six years, most Android manufacturers lag far behind, offering just about two years. Samsung has made some strides by committing to four generations of Android and five years of security updates, but Google’s new policy puts the tech giant ahead of the game. By taking the initiative, Google has not only turned up its own standards but also applied pressure on other companies to follow suit. The real question now is, will they?

Despite the silence, the tech community isn’t exactly in the dark. Numerous leaks regarding these devices have surfaced, unveiling certain features and stirring further excitement. Roland Quandt, a reputable tech journalist, has recently highlighted three storage configurations for the Pixel 8 Pro: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, aligning with the offerings for the Pixel 7 Pro. However, potential Pixel 8 buyers might find themselves limited to just 128GB and 256GB variants.

In terms of competition, while Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Plus boasts 256 and 512GB storage options, its base S23 model offers an entry-level 128GB, providing a comparative view of what Google might have aimed for with Pixel 8. Nevertheless, choices are there, and consumers will opt for what aligns with their needs.

An interesting highlight of the upcoming Pixels is their modified color palette. Sources suggest three colors for both models: “Licorice”, “Peony”, and “Haze” for the Pixel 8 and “Licorice”, “Porcelain”, and “Sky” for the Pixel 8 Pro. Google introduced Pixel as its own lineup of smartphones in 2016. It replaced the company’s Nexus series of handsets, which was the result of partnerships with leading Android OEMs.

Since its inception, these phones are being sold in India. However, despite being in the market for nearly seven years, the search giant has made no significant progress.

On the other hand, several other newcomers like Realme, Poco, and iQOO that entered India after 2016 have been quite successful in the region. If you were to argue that these are budget brands, it is worth adding that Google’s premium competitors like Apple, Samsung, and OnePlus have also done fairly well in the country.

So why Google is struggling in India? I try my best to answer this question in this opinion piece.

India is a budget-conscious market

India is a developing nation. Though the phone penetration rate is nearing the 80% mark, not all handsets used by people are smartphones.

India is one of the largest feature phone markets in the world.  As per IDC, in 2022 alone, companies shipped around 57 million units of feature phones in the country. That’s about 28% of the total mobile shipments (201 million) last year.

Thus, to garner market share, OEMs have to release handsets in the budget segment, especially the entry-level. This helps them to target low-income consumers as well as first-time smartphone buyers who are switching from feature phones.

For the last few quarters, this segment is struggling as brands are unable to produce this type of phones due to the current global economic scene. But it won’t be like this forever. However, Google does not sell budget and entry-level smartphones.

On the other hand, with the growing number of middle-class families with surplus income, consumers are gradually moving towards mid-range and more expensive smartphones. Thus, India is seeing a rise in sales of mid-range handsets.

Google’s ‘Pixel a’ series falls under this category. However, the new models are usually more expensive than competitors at launch.

Also, in terms of hardware specs, the ‘Pixel a’ series falls short in comparison with competitors. The only strong suite for Google is exclusive useful software features. But unfortunately, most of them are not available in India, such as ‘Call Screen’ and ‘Car Crash Detection’ to name a couple.

Brand perception among consumers

Google is a household name in India but we cannot say the same for its Pixel lineup of smartphones. When you think of premium smartphones, Apple, Samsung, and OnePlus are the three names that come to mind for Indian consumers.

With attractive deals, iPhones are being sold more in India than ever before. Apple sees great potential in India that it has started rolling out its first-party Apple retail stores in the country.

Then, there’s Samsung, which is generally considered the best alternative to Apple, especially in the ultra-premium segment. Further, OnePlus once ruled the premium segment in the region but it has fallen slightly with the availability of iPhones at a cheaper price.

Pixels in general do not stand out as a premium offering in India. They neither have the raw specs like OnePlus nor the familiarity factors associated with Samsung. While Apple has always been a luxury brand. 

Also, Google does not have a wide after-sales network like the competition. And it is not consistent with its product lineup since it skipped the launch of Pixel 4, Pixel 5, and Pixel 6 in India.

Distribution and production

Google has the potential of improving the Pixel brand perception in India through solid distribution. But unfortunately, it is still lacking in this regard.

Currently, Pixels are sold exclusively online via Flipkart in India, and that too in limited quantity. Thus, they get sold out very quickly at times. For the unaware, previously, Pixels were available at select offline stores like Reliance Digital.

Google sells mid-rangers and premium devices, which are expensive for most Indians. Hence, these products need to be experienced by consumers to understand what they are getting in return for their investment.

Despite being in India for years, Google is yet to initiate local manufacturing (assembling) of its Pixel smartphones in India. This has now become crucial for any brand to break into the country.

India imposes heavy import duty on finished products to boost its local manufacturing under Make in India program. This is one of the several reasons why Pixels are more expensive in India than other markets.

Closing thoughts

Google is in no position to release entry-level and budget smartphones. So that’s out of the equation.

However, the company can work on the remaining factors discussed above. The Pixel brand perception can be improved with appropriate marketing tactics. Most importantly, the handsets must hit the offline markets.

Google cannot bring certain software features to India due to complexity and regulatory concerns. But the search giant has enough resources to develop new features for Indian consumers. Finally, as for local production, Google is already working on it. If it succeeds, this could bring down the price and enhance availability.

Pixel users are offered three protection level choices – Basic, Medium and Maximum

The recent update to Google’s Phone app introduces a single Protection Level menu, streamlining the various Call Screen options that were previously available. Users now have three protection level choices: Basic, Medium, and Maximum. With Basic protection, users can solely decline known spam calls. The Medium option not only rejects spam calls but also screens suspicious ones. On the other hand, the Maximum protection level enables the screening of all unknown numbers.

The new Protection Level menu offers a more straightforward and less intimidating experience for users, particularly those who are new to Call Screen. By consolidating the options into three clear choices, Google has made it easier for users to understand and select the level of call screening that suits their needs. This simplified approach ensures that users can efficiently manage unwanted calls without feeling overwhelmed by intricate settings.

While the update is currently rolling out to select users, feedback has been limited thus far, with only one report on Reddit. Google Pixel recently received the March security patch that packs a number of updates and changes to the device, including the addition of the Magic Eraser tool to all Pixel devices, amongst other changes. This was a long-awaited update that Pixel users were very eager to receive. However, it wasn’t all ‘good news’ and ‘bright skies’ with the latest update. A weak point in the Pixel’s software framework might just have been revealed.

Google’s March security patch for Android has revealed a potentially serious vulnerability in the Pixel’s Markup screenshot tool. Reverse engineers Simon Aarons and David Buchanan discovered the “aCropalypse” flaw, which enables someone to take a PNG screenshot cropped in Markup and undo some of the image’s edits. This could be abused by a malicious actor to reveal sensitive information redacted by a Pixel owner using Markup. Buchanan has revealed the flaw has existed since Markup’s launch alongside Android 9 Pie in 2018, with older images at risk due to Google’s oversight.

Although March’s security patch prevents Markup from compromising future images, the patch isn’t available on all Pixel devices, meaning vulnerable images can still be produced. The vulnerability may not affect some social media platforms such as Twitter, as these may process images in a way that makes it difficult to reverse-edit them. However, other chat apps like Discord are still vulnerable, and it’s unclear if other social media and chat apps are similarly affected. Google has yet to respond to requests for comment and further information. Pixel owners are advised to avoid using Markup to share sensitive images until the patch is available on all devices.

Vulnerabilities with chipsets and phone modems can be exploited by attackers to gain unauthorized access to sensitive data, control the device remotely, or cause damage to the device or the user. This is why it is extremely essential to stay updated on security patches and updates from manufacturers to protect against such vulnerabilities and ensure the security of personal information and data. On March 17, the IT House reported that the Google Project Zero security team has recently discovered 18 vulnerabilities in Samsung modems. These vulnerabilities affect several models of Samsung devices, including the Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, Galaxy S22 series, and Galaxy A53 models.

According to Google’s report, four of the 18 vulnerabilities are rated as “critical”. If exploited, attackers can remotely damage the victim’s phone without the need for any user interaction, as long as they have the phone number.

Google has already released a security update in March this year to fix this issue for Pixel phones. However, it’s worth noting that Google has not fixed the vulnerabilities for Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a. Since the chipsets for these smartphones are fabricated on top of Samsung’s own chips, it is understandable that they will be affected by the same.

Affected devices include the following: Samsung branded phones such as Galaxy S22, M33, M13, M12, A71, A53, A33, A21, A13, A12, and A04 series, vivo-branded phones such as S16, S15, S6, X70, X60, and X30 series, Google phones such as Pixel 6 series and Pixel 7 series, any wearable device using the Exynos W920 chipset, and any vehicle using the Exynos Auto T5123 chipset.

Users should stay vigilant and make sure to update their devices to the latest software versions as soon as possible to ensure the security of their data and personal information.

Google has finally put out a new feature drop for Pixel devices and the Pixel Watch, giving users access to several highly anticipated updates. Night Sight, a popular low-lit photography feature, has been optimized for faster processing on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones. The Magic Eraser tool, previously exclusive to the Pixel 6, will now be available on all Pixel handsets. Magic Eraser allows users to remove unwanted objects from their photos with just a few taps. Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, Magic Eraser can intelligently fill in the area where the object was removed, seamlessly blending it into the surrounding environment. This feature is particularly useful for getting rid of distracting elements in your photos, such as power lines or strangers in the background. With Magic Eraser, users can easily clean up their photos and make them look even better than before.

In addition, Google’s Health Connect app will now come pre-installed on Pixels, providing a convenient hub for storing health and fitness data from various apps. Finally, the Direct My Call+ feature arrives on older Pixel models, allowing users to bypass tedious customer service menus when making calls. Google also highlighted its recent addition of Fall Detection on the Pixel Watch, which can automatically call emergency services in the event of a hard fall.

It is noteworthy that if users want the stable version of QPR2, they will need to exit the Beta program first. To do this, before March 13th, users will need to go to www.google.com/android/beta and click on the rectangle that says “View your eligible devices.” They will then be taken to an image of their Pixel device with the words “Opt out” underneath. Once they tap on the button, that’s pretty much it. If they do nothing, users will receive the QPR3 Beta 1 update today, and they will be forced to stick with the Beta program until June 5th when the June Feature Drop should be released by Google.

Google is set to release its mid-range offering, the Pixel 7a, which is expected to debut at the I/O 2023 on May 10th. The latest hands-on leak, courtesy of Zing News, shows off the phone’s design in full glory. The device looks almost identical to recent Pixel phones with its square design and sharp edges. The Pixel 7a comes with a center-positioned punch-hole cutout for the selfie shooter and symmetrical bezels on all corners.

The phone has a Black color option, but there may be other color options at launch. One of the leaked images shows the fastboot screen, confirming that the phone will pack 8GB LPDDR5 Samsung RAM and 128GB internal storage, with a possible 6GB version as well. The top portion houses the secondary microphone for noise cancellation, while the bottom edge has two speaker vents and a USB Type-C slot. The power button and volume rockers can be seen on the right edge.

The Pixel 7a is expected to sport a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The device will likely feature the Tensor G2 chipset, similar to the Pixel 7 series, paired with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. Out of the box, Pixel 7a is likely to boot Android 13 OS.

The back of the phone has a horizontal strap to house dual cameras and an LED flash, with the panel appearing to be made of glass. Pixel 7a is rumored to come with a 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor and a 12MP secondary ultra-wide sensor. The selfie snapper could be a 10.8MP unit, which is the same as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The phone is expected to launch with 5W wireless charging support.

Pixel fans are always Google has announced that it will launch the beta program for the June Feature Drop on March 13th, 2023. Pixel users who are on the QPR2 Beta will automatically receive Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 next week if they don’t exit the program by March 13th. However, the big news is that Google is changing the way to exit the Beta program without wiping the phone.

Previously, if users were going to exit the Android 13 QPR2 Beta program, they had to install the stable version of QPR2 before opting out of the Beta program. But now, if they want the stable version of QPR2, they will need to exit the Beta program first. To do this, before March 13th, users will need to go to www.google.com/android/beta and click on the rectangle that says “View your eligible devices.” They will then be taken to an image of their Pixel device with the words “Opt out” underneath. Once they tap on the button, that’s pretty much it. As long as users ignore all the other downgrade buttons, opting out will not force them to wipe their phones. However, users will still have to wait for the stable version of the QPR2 update (the March Feature Drop) to be released later this month.

If users refuse to opt out, they won’t receive the stable version of QPR2. If they can’t wait to return to the latest public version, they can simply tap on “downgrade OTA update,” but be warned that doing this will force users to wipe their phones. If they do nothing, users will receive the QPR3 Beta 1 update on Monday and they will be forced to stick with the Beta program until June 5th when the June Feature Drop should be released by Google, unless users want to wipe their phones clean. This is a significant change, and Google wants to make sure that users don’t accidentally wipe their data, so they are taking all the steps to cover their bases.
