Several Dell PCs are facing critical issues after attempting to install Microsoft’s December cumulative update KB5072033 for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. The problems include failed installations, frequent system freezes, and a non-functional Start Menu.

The update, released on December 9, has been failing to install on many Dell desktops and laptops. Users report that the progress bar halts mid-way and returns error code 0x800f0983. A system administrator confirmed that a large number of new Dell systems under his management encountered the same issue. He attempted multiple troubleshooting methods, including System File Checker, Deployment Image Servicing and Management, and reinstalling Windows. None of these fixed the problem.

The situation is worse on Dell Pro Max 16250 devices. Several users reported that these systems freeze after installing the update. Initial speculation pointed to Intel Arc graphics drivers. Further investigation by users revealed that a BIOS setting caused the issue. They found that disabling the “Enable adaptive c-States for discrete graphics” option under Advanced Setup > Performance in the BIOS stopped the system crashes.

Another reported issue affects the Start Menu. On some systems running Windows 11 24H2, the Start Menu fails to open after installing KB5072033. One affected user suspects that the problem may be connected to a previously identified bug from update KB5072911, which affected File Explorer and other XAML-based apps on enterprise devices.

Microsoft has not released an official fix or statement addressing these problems. For now, Dell users are advised to delay the KB5072033 update or manually adjust BIOS settings if they face system freezes. The update continues to raise concerns across Windows forums, especially among enterprise administrators managing large fleets of Dell hardware.

Realme has started rolling out the stable version of Realme UI 7.0 to its GT 7 Pro series in China. The update is now live for the GT 7 Pro and GT 7 Pro Racing, with batches going out gradually. The company confirmed that other models are in the final stages of rollout preparation and will begin receiving the update over the next week. The global rollout is also expected to follow soon for these devices.

Realme UI product manager Kangda Leo shared the update schedule on Weibo. The first phase began in November 2025 with the GT 7 Pro lineup, which includes the standard model, Speed Edition, and Aston Martin F1 Limited Edition. Devices such as the Neo 7, Neo 7 Turbo, Neo 7 SE, and GT 5 Pro are also scheduled to receive the update this month.

Realme plans to expand the rollout in December for more devices, including the GT 5 240W, Neo 7x, and Realme 14 Pro. The next phase begins in January 2026, covering the GT 6, GT Neo 6 SE, GT 5, Realme 14 Pro+, Realme 14, and multiple models from the GT Neo 5 and Realme 15 series. Apple just rolled out iOS 18.4.1, and this isn’t your usual bug fix update. This mid-cycle release tackles two critical zero-day vulnerabilities that Apple says were used in “extremely sophisticated” attacks against specific, high-profile iOS users. The update also spans iPadOS, macOS Sequoia, visionOS, and tvOS, reinforcing just how widespread the threat might be.

The first vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-31200, affects Apple’s Core Audio framework. Discovered by Apple in collaboration with Google’s Threat Analysis Group, the flaw allowed attackers to execute arbitrary code simply by tricking a device into processing a maliciously crafted media file. That’s a big deal, especially since Core Audio is baked into every Apple device.

The second, CVE-2025-31201, was found internally by Apple. It targets a lower-level security safeguard known as Return Pointer Authentication Code (RPAC). This system is designed to block attackers from injecting malicious code into a device’s memory. The exploit reportedly allowed attackers with read/write access to sidestep these protections entirely.

Apple hasn’t confirmed who’s behind the attacks or how many users were hit, but Google’s involvement hints at possible state-backed operations. What should these users do?

If Xiaomi ends software support for your smartphone, it’s recommended that you upgrade to a newer model that offers longer software support. That’s because newer models generally receive timely security updates, making them more protected against potential threats or any vulnerabilities.

If you decide to keep running the device on older software or security patches, it will become more susceptible to cyber threats. It may not be able to discover newer vulnerabilities, thus becoming prime targets for attackers.

More than security patches, the reason for a smartphone upgrade is major OS releases, which allow us access to exciting new features and plenty of enhancements. They also bring new security and privacy features.

In an interview with SamMobile at the Samsung Developer Conference, Samsung’s Principal Engineer and Technical Program Manager of the Security Team for its Mobile eXperience division revealed that the company is actively discussing how to expand its long-term security support beyond 5 years.

He also mentioned that this vision aligns with Samsung’s goal of supporting devices for longer, and it is also preparing to go beyond its current 5-year support period in light of new regulations coming up.

However, SamMobile notes that this does not mean that Samsung will be offering major platform updates for more than 5 years. The company is only considering expanding its security update support. This means that even if your device does not receive a major Android update, it will still receive security updates for longer.

Samsung is one of the few Android smartphone brands that offers consistent software updates, even to its budget smartphones. Currently, the company manages updates for more than 1 billion devices every month and over 10 billion annually.

Among these fixes, 52 have been provided by Google, while Samsung has developed 38 security vulnerability fixes. Three critical flaws have been addressed, alongside 56 high-priority issues. Most of the flaws detected are found in devices running Android 11, Android 12, Android 12L, and Android 13, with some issues specifically related to Qualcomm chips and components, Mali and PowerVR GPUs, and memory management.

Samsung is set to reintroduce a 2x portrait mode feature in its S23 series camera through an upcoming firmware update, according to recent reports from renowned tech tipster Ice Universe. Samsung had initially removed this feature a few months ago, but the company is reportedly responding to user feedback and bringing it back.

Galaxy S23 to get 2x portrait mode and HDR fix in the upcoming software update

Aside from the portrait mode, the upcoming software update will address issues related to the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s HDR performance. Several users have reported camera issues in specific lighting conditions. A halo effect around objects is observed in low-light or indoor conditions when using the HDR feature, particularly when the primary light source is present in the frame. This issue arises from a combination of negative exposure value (EV) input frames containing identical contour patterns and the application of local tone-mapping (LTM) after HDR output. Samsung has officially acknowledged and promised to fix it in the next update.

The latest May 2023 security patch update for the Galaxy S23 series does not include the HDR fixes, so it is likely that the next or second May 2023 update will bring these changes. In addition to the HDR issue, the Samsung camera team is also open to suggestions for new features.

Previously, Samsung rolled out a system update for the S23 series in April, which brought several camera improvements and bug fixes. These included optimizations to the Gallery app, autofocus mechanism, Super Steady On mode, and Camera Assistant.
