The senior official shared the news on his official Weibo account, a Chinese microblogging website. On the social media post, Lei Jun shared an image poster, which stated that the Mi Band 6 has crossed 1 million units in shipments across the globe. For those unaware, the Mi Band 6 is the latest smart band from the Chinese tech giant that launched in two variants, an NFC enabled and base version back in March 2021.

This wearable started sales back in 2nd April 2021 and in less than a month, the overall sales have crossed 1 million. Talking about the device itself, the Mi Band 6 is a smart band with a 1.56 inch AMOLED display. It is capable of tracking the blood oxygen levels along with being capable of monitoring heart rate and users’ sleep as well. Furthermore, it also features other health and sports tracking features as well, which includes sports modes like running, cycling, walking, and more.

The non NFC variant was launched for a price of 229 Yuan (roughly 35 US Dollars) while the NFC enabled version is sold for 279 Yuan (roughly 43 US Dollars). The high shipment figures in such a short period of times implies that the device was highly successful in the markets that it launched in, so we can also expect the shipment numbers to further grow in the arriving weeks as well.

According to a Counterpoint Research report, the drop in shipments was the least in Brazil and Peru, while the Chinese tech giant managed to achieve the top three position for the first time in the region. As per Counterpoint’s Principal Analyst Tina Lu, “Smartphone shipments in 2020 dropped 19.6%. The market suffered from a supply shortage in Q1 2020, especially in Brazil, where local manufacturers also experienced parts shortages. From the end of March and through May, most of the regional demand was halted due to broad lockdowns in most LATAM countries. The market started to recover slowly after June.”

Lu further added that the region saw a surge in online promotion events post lockdown, with events like Cyber Week and Black Friday. These events boosted sales during the fourth quarter of last year. Samsung was the most aggressive in promoting its online channels while also expanding its presence in the region. The South Korean tech giant also held the top spot in the market during the final quarter, with a market share of 36.9 percent. Meanwhile, Motorola and Xiaomi arrived second and third with 18.4 percent and 6.7 percent respectively.

However, in terms of annual market standings, Xiaomi only arrived fourth with just a 6.2 percent market share. Huawei took the third spot in the annual rankings but likely fell due to the impacts of US sanctions on its supply chain during the fourth quarter. In other words, Xiaomi might just surpass Huawei this year in the annual rankings.

The primary reason for this is the recent Coronavirus pandemic that has affected the world but is also expecting the demand to soon pick up.

According to Lei Jun, Founder and CEO of Xiaomi, “While the entire world is still under the dark shadows of COVID-19, we have maintained our keen focus on efficiency to tide over this economic ‘black swan’ with everyone.” In other words, despite having to also shut down its factory and production lines temporarily, the company is almost back up to its full capacity.

For those unaware, the Chinese government had initially taken steps to curb the further spreading of the viral outbreak. This was mainly done by shutting down manufacturing sites and other places with a large number of workers. As of right now, Xiaomi has indicated that 80 to 90 percent of its production capacity in China has been revitalized, according to senior executives in a conference call.

Wang Xiang, the President of Xiaomi, also mentioned that “production was affected, but the pace of recovery has exceeded expectations.” Wang said that the effects of the COVID-19 have been lesser on the Chinese tech giant over its other rivals in major smartphone markets like India, Europe, and the US. Just last week, Xiaomi opened more than 1,800 retail stores in China, with 80 percent of its suppliers also have resumed operations.

Xiaomi is among many OEMs that had to suspend its production in India, after the local government issued a 21 day countrywide lockdown. Analysts are expecting smartphone shipments to fall during this time by about 50 percent, in comparison to Q1 of 2019. However, the overall Indian smartphone market may see a 4.2 percent decline this year in the worst case scenario.

Xiaomi posted 15% revenue growth in Q2 2019 which is slower than what was estimated by analysts. The company’s revenue rose to 51.95 billion yuan ($7.36 billion) from 45.24 billion yuan during the same period last year. In comparison, Xiaomi’s revenue grew by a solid 27% in the first quarter of the year.

The company is facing tough times with the Chinese smartphone market being in a slump and Huawei growing pretty significantly in the domestic market. Ever since the ban was enforced by the US government on Huawei, Chinese customers have come in support of the telecommunications giant. IDC reports that Huawei and its Honor brand increased its market share in China in Q2 2019 to 37% from 27.4% last year. This increase came at the expense of other manufacturers like Xiaomi who saw a fall in its shipments.

Xiaomi’s net income fell by a staggering 87% to 1.96 billion yuan. However, the company still managed to post a decent 3.64 billion yuan adjusted profit. The total shipments in the last quarter were 32 million.

Xiaomi’s CFO also revealed that the company has been making strategic investments to build a “Chinese supply chain” most likely in response to the US’ stance against Chinese companies. Defying the recent reports from a market research firm, Xiaomi said the smartphone shipments exceeded 27.5 million units.

Xiaomi group noticed a significant cleft in the statistics from third-party research firms. To avoid any backlash from the investors and promoters, Xiaomi board of directors decided to clarify the stance. The company published a notice defining the actual shipment numbers for the first quarter of 2019. According to Xiaomi’s official management accounts, the company shipped significantly more smartphones than cited by third-party reports.

Xiaomi cautioned the investors who hold the company’s shares or other securities in believing the third party reports. Before the actual Q1 2019 financial report, Xiaomi voluntarily published the total shipments to rescue the company’s portfolio from any negative impact.

IDC and a few other data aggregating agencies estimated 25 million Xiaomi smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2019. There’s a huge difference between the actual shipments and the numbers perceived by IDC. According to the IDC report, Xiaomi witnessed a 10% dip on YoY basis with shipments declining from 27.8 million to 25 million units in Q1 2019. The Chinese electronics maker now owns 8% smartphone market share globally.

Xiaomi closed the top five list with 28.6 million shipments in Q4 2018. At that time, Xiaomi market share grew by 2.4%, and overall share improved to 7.6%. Whereas, Xiaomi is the market leader in India with a 28.9% share. It shipped over 142.3 million smartphones last year in the country.

The Chinese electronics maker had set a target to ship 100 million smartphones in the year 2018. Maintaining a high growth rate, Xiaomi has crossed 100 million shipments target, two months ahead of its schedule. Last year, Xiaomi touched 90 Million sales, but growth was sluggish in comparison to this year.

It is for the second time that Xiaomi has proposed the 100 million shipments after the year 2015. Xiaomi’s focus on mid-budget and high-end devices has allowed the company to gain these many sales. The significant aspect behind the high number of sales is its pricing which is always considerably less than the other devices in the market.

If we go with the Q2 financial report, then it is clear that Xiaomi has performed consistently throughout the year. In the Q2, 2018, Xiaomi witnessed the sale of 32 million units with 43.9% year-on-year increase. It is the highest growth rate that any company around the globe has gained recently.

Xiaomi is not only doing well in its home market, but it is also performing considerably better in the overseas market, such as India. In India, Xiaomi registered 27% of total smartphone market share in the third quarter of 2018. It has become India’s largest smartphone seller.

There are a number of reasons behind Xiaomi’s growth in the past few years. Xiaomi has started researching and developing new technologies, they have improved its MIUI OS, and most importantly their less than 5% profit margin in the purchase of raw equipment has catered to its fast growth.

Today, Xiaomi is launching Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 smartphone which is another technologically advanced smartphone. It is the first commercial smartphone to carry 5G network support, and it is also one of the first Android smartphones to host 10 GB of RAM. However, the data further points out that Xiaomi was the fastest growing company in the same quarter, with a YoY growth rate of 48.8%.

Back in Q2 2017, Xiaomi managed to ship just 21.4 million smartphones but that increased drastically this year to 31.9 million. Considering the modest growth rate of other companies, except for Huawei, this is indeed a significant jump for Xiaomi. Further, the company now ranks above OPPO (Xiaomi surpassed OPPO in Q1 2018), reversing its position as compared to the same period last year.

Huawei YoY growth has been quite impressive as well, increasing its shipments by nearly 41% this year. While Apple shipments have remained more or less stable around 41 million, Huawei managed to grow its shipments from 38 million to 54.2 million units in the previous quarter. However, the Chinese giant still needs some time to catch up with Samsung’s 71.5 million shipments this year. Fortunately for Huawei, Samsung’s shipments have fell by over 10% YoY and if this trend continues, the company could soon overtake the South Korean giant in the next couple of years!

The data shows the market made some tremendous progress when compared to the Q1 2018 performance. Recall that an earlier report by Canalys which captures the shipment for the first quarter of 2018 had revealed that the Chinese phone market slumped by 21% year on year. However, the market rebounded in Q2 but is still down by 8% YoY as the entire vendors shipped 104 million units compared to 113 million shipments recorded in Q2 2017.

There are quite a number of other positive things to take away from the report, though. One of them is the performance of Huawei in the market. The company is blazing through the tide with a total shipment, estimated anyway, of 28.5 million. This represents a record 27% share of the market which is unprecedented. Huawei’s performance for Q2 is also ahead of the 21% growth recorded in Q2 2017 and so, represents a 22% growth. The report also revealed that the Honor brand accounted for 55% of Huawei’s Q2 2018 shipments, up from 33% a year ago. This means that Honor is the biggest lineup in Huawei’s portfolio successfully challenging Xiaomi in the budget/mid-range segment, while also successfully launching its first $500 flagships.

BBK Electronics-owned companies OPPO and Vivo occupy the second and third place respectively. While OPPO grew just 3% YoY, Vivo raked in enough sales to post a 20% market share with 30% growth year-over-year. Xiaomi maintained its solid run from last year with a 14% share to occupy the fourth spot while Apple completes the top 5. Despite the growth, the report predicts that the Chinese market will continue to decline towards the end of this year. The smaller vendors will take the hit harder as they struggle to sustain volumes.

That record has now seen a repeat or may have even been exceeded, going by this latest announcement.

The company is yet to disclose the spread of its shipments but it is believed that China and India played a huge role in the record sales. Xiaomi’s decision to expand its offline presence in China by opening up more Mi Stores, thus availing fans access to its products easily. The company has added more than 200 brick and mortar stores in several Chinese cities this year just as planned. Also, the company also improved on its production output such that this year’s flagship models and other budget models are readily available across various platforms. The achievement may also have been driven by the Diwali promotional sales held in India. India alone accounted for more than 4 million units during the period.

The record shipment once again moves Xiaomi very close to achieving its goal of 70 million shipments this year. With this pace, don’t you think Xiaomi may well exceed 90 million shipments this year? The company will likely introduce two or three more smartphones before the end of the year which would further boost its sales.

The company used to unveil great smartphones but once launched, the phone was hard to get, since the stock never seemed to be enough. As a result, the company has been severely criticized for its ready stock availability and we have seen competitors like OPPO and Vivo beating Xiaomi in terms of the shipments sold during the first quarter of 2016.

This was indeed a worrisome issue for the company as well as fans, which is why Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi took it personally upon himself to head the supply department of the company. Looks like, that was a brilliant move, since Xiaomi is now said to be doing quite well in terms of smartphone shipments.

Earlier today, the secretary of the Chinese smartphone alliance revealed on Weibo that Xiaomi’s shipments have improved. In fact, the company seems to be shipping around 6 million smartphones every month in the second quarter of 2016. This is finally great news considering that fans can purchase Xiaomi’s smartphones right after its announcement. Well, at least the Redmi 3S was up for purchase after its announcement, and to be honest, it sold pretty well during JD.com’s grand sale. Even Xiaomi Mi5 is now available for open purchase.

RELATED: Xiaomi Redmi 4 Rumored to come with Helio X20

Given that Xiaomi has finally managed to stabilize its shipments, we can expect the upcoming beasts — Xiaomi Mi5S and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 to be in stock after the announcement. I don’t think Xiaomi can afford to make the same mistake as it did with the Mi5 earlier this year, which did hurt the company in terms of sales. So, when these two powerful flagships are announced sometime later in 2016, we can hope that the company readies a very good amount of stock to satisfy the demand from its fans.

Looks like, the strategy is working for the company as it sold over 34.7 million handsets in the first half of 2015. This marks an impressive 33% increase as compared to last year’s first half sales.

While we can say that the company’s growth rate may have slowed down a bit, these figures are impressive because, for the first time, Chinese smartphone market slowed down this year. So, even in this slow market, Xiaomi managed to post good figures.

Kevin Yang, an analysts of IHS Technology further adds that these figures are the actual devices sold to the consumers. He also says that Xiaomi managed to sell about 19.72 million handsets in the Q2 2015, taking the total to the above mentioned 34.70 million. Despite the increase in competition from new flagships from Huawei and Meizu, he expects the performance in the second half of 2015 to be the most crucial.

Xiaomi had earlier told us that it aims to sell a lot more handsets this year, around 80 million to 100 million. If it were to reach anywhere near this figure, the company will have to sell at least 45 million handsets in the second half of 2015.

To be honest, this looks possible, given the fact that we will soon see multiple smartphone releases from the company like the new Xiaomi Mi5, Redmi Note 2 (possibly two variants) and even the Snapdragon 820 powered Xiaomi Mi5 Plus.

Anyways, lets see if the company manages to reach its goal of 80 million in the second half, especially with the increased competition from domestic manufacturers.

The announcement was made by the company’s CEO, Lei Jun, on the Xiaomi official Chinese blog who also said that the next five years will be very crucial to Xiaomi and that the competition in the next five years will be fierce due to the growth of local and foreign competitors as well as the entry of new players in the industry.

Xiaomi’s shipped almost 70 million units last year which means the company sold over 30 million units within the first three months of the current year to exceed its 100 million sales goal. The company has also said that their sales numbers would actually be higher if not for capacity or availability issues.

The company’s latest flagship devices, the Mi Note and Note Pro, which were announce last January are also expected to sell very well with their top-of-the-line features and specifications partnered with very competitive price tags which is Xiaomi’s signature style. The company also most recently announced two special editions of the Mi Note, the Ladies Edition and Bamboo Edition, which features a pink design and a natural bamboo rear panel, respectively.

Yesterday, we reported that Xiaomi had no plans for an electric vehicle in the near future. Lei Jun had made that clear at the Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum Fifteenth Annual Meeting yesterday. During the same event, he also revealed some key stats about the company and gave us an idea as to what the company is planning for this year.

He revealed that Xiaomi manufactured 61.2 million smartphones in 2014 alone and generated about 74.3 billion Yuan in sales. The company’s sales figures have been growing pretty fast since 2012.

In 2012, Xiaomi’s sales were around 12.6 billion, in 2013 it rose to an impressive 32.6 billion and finally in 2014, the sales more than doubled to reach 74.3 billion Yuan. Naturally, with such high sales, the sales tax too is said to be around 100 million Yuan in a year.

With the current growth in sales and shipments, its very likely that Xiaomi will reach at least 100 billion Yuan in sales this year. Previous stats have shown that the figures have more than doubled and if it continues the same rate, the sales could be anywhere around 150 billion. Moreover, Xiaomi has confirmed that it has plans to expand into newer emerging markets such as Brazil and Russia, which will definitively boost shipments and sales. Also, the total shipments could go well over 80 million this year.

So, do you think Xaiomi will exceed the 150 billion Yuan mark in sales this year? Or will the company slow down after registering impressive growth in the past two years?
