Foxconn to invest Rs. 1,200 crore in India for a new chip plant

Foxconn, renowned as the largest iPhone manufacturer and a major supplier to global tech firms, is significantly expanding its presence in India with a new investment of Rs. 1,200 crore ($150 million) to establish a chip assembly and testing plant in partnership with the HCL Group.

This move aims to tap into the burgeoning semiconductor industry in India and expand Foxconn’s global manufacturing reach. Interestingly, Foxconn CEO Liu Young-Way was recently awarded India’s prestigious Padma Bhushan award.

Foxconn’s Strategic Investment in India’s Tech Sector

This latest investment comes on the heels of a previous announcement in November 2023, where Foxconn committed more than $1.6 billion through its subsidiary, Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development, for a similar initiative. Although Foxconn faced challenges, such as ending its joint venture with the Vedanta Group, the company remains committed to its India expansion plans, as evidenced by its continued investments and partnerships in the country.

In addition to these investments, Foxconn has been working closely with the Indian government and local partners to enhance its manufacturing capabilities. Last month, it announced a $37.2 million investment with the HCL Group for a chip packaging and testing facility, following the termination of its partnership with Vedanta.

Foxconn has also partnered with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a new electronic components facility in the Kancheepuram district near Chennai, with an investment of Rs 1600 crore. This facility is set to complement Foxconn’s existing operations in India, including its iPhone assembly campus.

Big Rewards for Li Auto Employees After Smashing 2023 Sales Goals

Li Auto, a rising star in China‘s electric vehicle (EV) market and a formidable competitor to Tesla, has made headlines by generously rewarding its employees for surpassing the company’s 2023 sales targets. Amidst the fiercely competitive EV landscape, Li Auto’s strategy of offering significantly larger bonuses than the industry average underscores its commitment to recognizing and incentivizing the hard work of nearly 20,000 staff members.

Bonuses will be as huge as four to eight months’ salary for employees

The Beijing-based automaker announced plans to distribute bonuses equivalent to four to eight months’ salary, a notable increase from the standard two months’ pay seen across the sector. This move not only highlights Li Auto’s exceptional performance in 2023 but also reflects a culture of appreciation and motivation that is central to the company’s ethos. CEO Li Xiang, sharing insights on Weibo, emphasized the shift from modest rewards following 2022’s missed targets to this year’s substantial bonuses, mirroring the company’s sales triumph.

Li Auto

Li Auto’s success story is marked by delivering 376,030 premium EVs to customers, marking a staggering 182% growth from the previous year and crushing the set goal of 300,000 vehicles. This achievement positioned Li Auto as a close second to Tesla in China’s premium EV market, showcasing the brand’s robust appeal among affluent drivers.

The company’s rise to fame is also attributed to its strategic product diversification. After years of relying on its sole model, the Li One, Li Auto expanded its portfolio in mid-2022 with the introduction of three luxury SUVs—the L7, L8, and L9. These models, featuring advanced technology like intelligent four-wheel-drive systems and expansive entertainment screens, quickly took over China’s middle class.

Looking ahead, Li Auto sets its sights even higher, aiming to deliver 800,000 units in 2024—a bold objective reflecting both ambition and confidence in the face of a decelerating market and cutthroat competition. Time will tell if Li Auto can compete against BYD and Tesla – until then, the company continues to grow.

iPhone 16 Prototype Revealed Revolutionary Redesign

New details about the upcoming iPhone 16 series continues to emerge. For example, so far, we’ve learned that the iPhone 16’s capture button may offer DSLR-like functionality, and we’ve gathered some details about the processor and camera. Now, a revealed prototype indicates a much more significant change is on the way. Accordingly, the iPhone 16 will be influenced by a complete redesign, marking the end of an era that began five years ago with the iPhone 11 Pro. Here are the details…

iPhone 16 Series Set for a Revolutionary Redesign

The design of iPhones is undoubtedly one of the most criticized aspects of Apple. The company often avoids significant changes and sticks to a similar design language for several years, leading to comments from consumers like “the same phone” despite significant performance improvements. Recent information suggests that Apple may receive similar reactions this year with the iPhone 16, causing disappointment in terms of design. However, it appears that upcoming models will feature a new design for the rear cameras, replacing the two diagonal lenses with two vertical camera lenses on the rear.

A visual claimed to be from the prototype of the iPhone 16 has been shared on Twitter. Contrary to popular belief, there are expected major design changes for the iPhone 16 prototype. However, some speculated changes may not come to fruition. For instance, recent claims suggested an increase in the size of the iPhone 16 Pro, but it appears the Pro Max variant might not experience any size growth. Although precise measurements are not available, there are indications of a potential minor increase, possibly around 0.x inches.

However, the most significant change will undoubtedly occur in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models. Apple will abandon the diagonally aligned camera design located in the top right corner this year. Instead, it will revert to the camera layout familiar from the iPhone X and iPhone 11. While this may not change much for many users, it will still disappoint those with high expectations for design. Nevertheless, it must be acknowledged that making a significant design change on a phone with a completely screen-covered front, released every year, is not very feasible.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a similar appearance in terms of the camera. However, they will also be refreshed in terms of design, thanks to the new button layout. Capacitive touch buttons are anticipated to undergo a transformation, either becoming flat or slightly recessed into the chassis. Although specific details are unknown, it seems that this change is mainly influenced by the proximity to the Motor below.

One more intriguing prospect for the iPhone 16 Pro involves the integration of a periscope camera. The EVT1 model of the iPhone 15 Pro showcased a square periscope, comparable in size to the main camera’s CMOS but smaller than its Pro Max counterpart. Although this smaller CMOS boasted a 4x aperture change, it was notably absent in the EVT2 model.

2025 Porsche Taycan Unveiled: Faster Charging, Extended Range, and New Tech Features

Porsche is upping its game with the 2025 Taycan, setting new benchmarks in electric vehicle (EV) technology, charging speed, and driving dynamics. With the electric vehicle landscape evolving rapidly, the luxury carmaker is not resting on its laurels. The latest iteration of the Taycan, Porsche’s flagship EV is just that – a sign that the company is accommodating to meet the needs of the EV market.

The battery can charge from 0 to 80 per cent in merely 18 minutes

The 2025 Taycan, available in both sports sedan and Cross Turismo wagon body styles, introduces a choice of four powertrain options and both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations. This range of models is designed to cater to diverse driver preferences, with prices stretching from $101,395 for the entry-level sedan to $213,695 for the top-tier Cross Turismo model. What sets this year’s models apart is the introduction of a new 105kWh battery option under the Performance Battery Plus package, promising longer drives and more performance.

Porsche

Charging speed is a critical aspect of any EV, and Porsche has made significant strides with the Taycan. Boasting the capability to charge from zero to 80 percent in just 18 minutes at 800-volt DC charging stations, the Taycan is at the forefront of charging technology. This improvement is not just about speed; it’s about making electric driving more convenient and fitting seamlessly into drivers’ lives.

The enhanced efficiency of the 2025 Taycan can be attributed to several technical advancements. A new rear-axle motor and a modified pulse inverter, alongside the more powerful battery, revised thermal management, and an upgraded recuperation system, all contribute to a more efficient and dynamic driving experience. These improvements mean the Taycan can now sprint from zero to 60 mph even faster, with the Turbo S model achieving this in a mere 2.3 seconds, making it the quickest production car Porsche has ever offered.

But Porsche’s innovation doesn’t stop at performance and efficiency. The 2025 Taycan also introduces design and technological updates, including new headlights and taillights, refreshed front fenders, and the option for a high-quality, leather-free interior. Moreover, Porsche is enhancing the digital experience inside the Taycan, with a deeper integration of Apple CarPlay and new video streaming capabilities on the vehicle’s displays. Elon Musk finds Vision Pro unimpressive but hopeful for its future

Elon Musk, the tech visionary behind Tesla and SpaceX, recently shared his insights on Apple‘s new mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro, during an exchange on the X platform. His feedback offers a candid evaluation of the headset’s current state and its potential future impact, drawing parallels with the early generations of the iPhone. Musk’s perspective provides a nuanced view of Apple’s latest foray into mixed-reality technology.

Apple-Vision-Pro

Musk’s Take on Vision Pro

Musk remarked that the Vision Pro didn’t quite impress him, suggesting that while the technology holds promise, it hasn’t yet achieved a breakthrough experience. This reflects a cautious optimism, acknowledging the device’s potential while recognizing its current limitations. His comments suggest that, like the first iPhone, the Vision Pro may not have fully realized its potential at launch but could evolve significantly in the future. Musk recalls how the first iPhone, despite its initial shortcomings, evolved by its third iteration into a market-leading smartphone. This analogy implies that the Vision Pro, too, might follow a similar trajectory of improvement and eventual dominance in the mixed reality space.

Elon Musk on Vision Pro

The Vision Pro was released in the United States earlier this month amid high anticipation and mixed reviews from the media and bloggers. While some early adopters have praised the device, others have advised caution, suggesting that the initial version may not justify the rush to purchase. The Vision Pro represents Apple’s ambitious step into spatial computing, aiming to transform how users interact with technology by integrating computing into the user’s physical environment.

Despite the mixed feedback, the excitement surrounding the Vision Pro is undeniable, with some Tesla owners using the headset to enhance productivity during charging stops, and others experimenting with its pass-through video feature for driving—a use case not officially endorsed by Apple due to safety concerns. Even US officials have issued warnings against distracted driving, highlighting the importance of maintaining full human engagement while utilizing existing driver assistance systems.

Anyway, Musk’s comments underline a broader conversation about the iterative nature of technological innovation. His measured response to the Vision Pro highlights the importance of viewing new tech products as evolving platforms that may not reach their full potential immediately but could redefine their categories with time and development.

iPhone 16’s Capture Button May Offer DSLR-Like Functionality

Leaks and rumors about the iPhone 16 series have been swirling the web for some time now. The next-generation flagship smartphones from Apple are expected to debut in September this year. Past reports have suggested the arrival of a dedicated Capture button on the iPhone 16 models. Now, in the latest development, a Weibo user Instant Digital having a mixed track record has revealed details about the Capture button.

iPhone 16 may have DSLR-like capture button

As per Instant Digital, the Capture button on the iPhone 16 will be capable of detecting multiple levels of pressure. This is similar to the two-step buttons on digital cameras. Its main function will be to trigger an image or video capture. However, a light or halfway press will enable the user to lock and adjust focus. This would offer great convenience compared to pressing a finger on the display to lock focus on the subject so that the image doesn’t come out blurry. A recent report also revealed that the Capture button could also support zoom in and out function

Some Sony Xperia phones already feature two-stage shutter buttons. A dedicated Capture button lets users take photos quickly. The Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro models can only be programmed to launch the camera app. The Weibo user also adds that Apple adding the Capture button on the iPhone 16 indicates the company’s emphasis on photography with the next-generation offerings. It could become a beneficial addition to serious photographers and videographers.

It remains to be seen if the Capture button will make its way to all iPhone 16 models. Early renders of the iPhone 16 Pro’s revealed the dedicated button on the bottom right side.

iOS 17 Adoption Is Happening At A Slower Pace Than iOS 16

Apple announced iOS 17 at WWDC last year. The rollout of the latest operating system for iPhones across the world started last October. The software version comes with a host of new features and changes. Now, on Apple’s Developer website, the company has revealed the adoption statistics of the iOS 17 OS on all eligible devices. It is happening slower than the iOS 16.

iOS 17 adoption is slower than iOS 16

Apple iOS 17

The statistics data released by Apple is measured by devices that transacted on the App Store until February 4, 2024. It was first spotted by MacRumors. This is also the first time Apple has provided installation numbers of iOS 17.

As per the data, 76 percent of iPhones released in the last four years run on iOS 17. 20 percent of the same devices are still on iOS 16 while the remaining four percent are on an even earlier operating system. Meanwhile of all active iPhones eligible for iOS 17, only 66 percent are running the latest version. 23 and 11 percent of iPhones are on iOS 16 and older respectively.

The data suggests that iOS 17 is lagging behind iOS 16 in terms of adoption. Around this time last year, 81 percent of all iPhones in the last four years were running on iOS 16. Apple has released three major updates to the iOS 17 so far with another one expected to arrive in March.

Alongside iOS 17, Apple has also shared data on the iPadOS 17’s adoption progress. 61 percent of iPads introduced in the last four years have the latest software version installed.   29 percent are still running iPadOS 16 while the rest 10 percent have an older version.

Samsung Galaxy A55 5G Passes Indonesia’s NBTC and MIIT China Certifications Amid Launch Rumors

Samsung is set to renew its whole mid-range smartphone fleet with the launch of several new smartphones, including the Galaxy A55, Galaxy A35, Galaxy M55, Galaxy F55, and several others. Most of the upcoming Samsung smartphones are making the rounds on public certification websites across the globe. The Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A45 have already appeared on BIS India, Bluetooth SIG, FCC, Indonesia’s TKDN, and Korea’s NRRA. Moving a step ahead, the Galaxy A55 5G has made it to Indonesia’s NBTC and China’s MIIT certification with model codes SM-A556E and SM-A5560, respectively.

Both listings fail to impress, as they hardly reveal anything related to the features and specifications. The listing does confirm the smartphone’s impending launch in the respective countries.

Samsung Galaxy A55 5G Features and Specifications (Rumored)

Apart from the public certifications, the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G has been spotted on Geekbench with the Exynos 1480 SoC. It appears with four different performance cores with a clocking speed of 2.5 GHz and four efficiency cores at 2.05 GHz. The listing also reveals the presence of an Xclipse 530 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and Android 14. The TUV Rheinland, 3C, and FCC certifications confirm the presence of a 25W fast charging adapter, the EP-TA800.

Based on the previous leaks and rumors, the smartphone could feature a 6.5-inch Full HD+ OLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate. It could come with a 50 MP primary sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 5 MP macro camera. There will be a 32 MP front sensor for selfies and a camera.

Samsung Galaxy A55 renders were also leaked, unveiling the design details without any significant change in comparison with its predecessor. It follows the same design language with vertical cameras, flat edges, and a punch-hole display. It is expected to debut in three color options: Awesome Iceblue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy.

The smartphone could launch alongside the Galaxy A35 by Q2 2024. We have to wait for some more time before we get any official information. Until then, we expect details to surface via leaks and rumors in the coming few weeks.

Honor Magic 6 Series Revolutionizes Sportography with Pro-Grade Precision and AI Enhancements

Artificial intelligence technologies continue to advance and impact various aspects of our lives. One of these areas is undoubtedly our smartphones. AI has been finding its place in our smartphones for a while, but it used to be limited to a few functions within the processor. However, recent developments have changed this, and we are now actively experiencing the effects of artificial intelligence in smartphones. A concrete example of this is the Honor Magic 6 Series, which excels with AI-powered cameras, exceptional telephoto capabilities, industry-first HDR, and innovative features tailored for photography enthusiasts. Here are the details…

What’s the Next For Smartphone Photography? Honor Magic 6 Series Gives the Answer

Honor continues to expand its product family. Thanks to the models launched last year, the company became the fastest-growing smartphone brand in China in 2023. In 2024, aiming to sustain this momentum, the company recently launched the Honor Magic 6 series consisting of three models. All phones in the series stand out with their features and technical capabilities, with the second-generation AI-powered Pro grade Falcon Camera System undoubtedly shining.

The Pro grade Falcon Camera System, especially when combined with AI technology, enhances motion sensing capabilities, allowing users to capture fast paced moments with extraordinary clarity. Considering the point mobile photography has reached in the last decade, it is an undeniable fact that this feature will make life easier for photography enthusiasts.

The Honor Magic 6 series doesn’t just offer fast-paced photo shooting, it has also recognized the importance of telephoto lenses in sports photography. For instance, Honor has greatly improved its telephoto lens, providing exceptional light sensing and zoom capabilities in the Periscope telephoto lenses of the Magic 6 series. This enhancement ensures clear captures of distant subjects with excellent fidelity, meeting the needs of professional sports photographers.

Thanks to a customized HDR sensor, Honor tackles the challenge of capturing details in various lighting conditions. This sensor, boasting an 800% improvement in dynamic range, guarantees superior color and brightness accuracy. The Magic 6 series integrates HDR light and shadow control into the photography process, enabling users to effortlessly capture captivating silhouette shots.

In 2024, almost every smartphone can take quite impressive photos in daylight. The indicator of a camera’s quality often lies in its adaptability to different lighting conditions. Honor, aware of this, incorporates the Ultra-large Variable Aperture in the Pro Grade Falcon Camera System of the Magic 6 series. This feature enables users to adjust the depth of field and capture more light, creating background blur effects comparable to those of a mirrorless camera.

In another area where artificial intelligence shines in the Honor Magic 6 series, it is Motion Sensing. The camera, equipped with a comprehensive training dataset covering 10 different scenarios, smartly recognizes and tracks different movements, guaranteeing the capture of crucial moments in various sports and activities.

Reading all of this in an article is not as effective as seeing it. That’s why Honor collaborates with elite athletes to demonstrate the exceptional capabilities of the Magic 6 Series in capturing the fast-moving artistry of sports. A short cinematic film featuring fencing showcases the camera’s ability to freeze intense moments with unprecedented clarity, taking sport photography to new heights of excellence.

Apple visionOS 1.1 beta improves Vision Pro’s Persona function

Apple has rolled out the first developer beta version of visionOS 1.1 for Vision Pro, introducing significant updates focused on optimizing Persona, the personal virtual image feature. Upon installing visionOS 1.1, Apple Vision Pro users will be prompted to re-enter Persona to experience the “latest cosmetic updates” included in the update. Social media platforms have already been abuzz with users sharing screenshots of the updated Persona, noting the detail enhancement and lifelike appearance.

Persona function to become more realistic

The new version of Persona showcases more detailed and realistic avatars, reflecting Apple’s commitment to continually improving the user experience on its VR platform. Notably, some users have observed new prompts in visionOS 1.1 Beta 1, indicating that Apple recommends users refrain from holding the headset themselves when entering Persona. Instead, users are advised to place the headset high or allow others to hold it during the setup process.

Despite these enhancements, Apple still designates Persona as a “beta” feature within visionOS 1.1, suggesting ongoing optimization efforts in future updates. Persona is described by Apple as a “real spatial representation” capable of capturing users’ facial expressions and hand movements in real time. This feature becomes particularly useful during Vision Pro’s video calls, where Persona can replace the user’s real face, providing privacy while maintaining engagement.

When setting up Persona, the system also captures the user’s eyes for use in the “EyeSight” function. This functionality allows the other party in a video call to see a virtually rendered image of the user’s eyes on the Vision Pro’s external display, enhancing the sense of connection and realism during communication.

Overall, the introduction of visionOS 1.1 with optimized Persona underscores Apple’s dedication to advancing the capabilities and usability of its VR platform.
