Zero-Day Vulnerability in Popular WordPress Plug-In Puts Thousands of Websites at Risk

In a shocking revelation, renowned security company Wordfence has recently uncovered a critical zero-day vulnerability in the widely used “user login system” plug-in, Ultimate Member, on the WordPress blogging platform. This vulnerability allows hackers to exploit their accounts and gain elevated administrative rights, effectively granting them full control over targeted websites.

The security flaw, identified as CVE-2023-3460, has been assigned a risk score of 9.8, indicating its severity. Through this vulnerability, cybercriminals can circumvent the plug-in’s built-in security measures, enabling them to manipulate the wp_capabilities configuration data of user accounts. By setting up their own accounts as administrators, hackers can assume complete control of compromised websites.

The plug-in’s developer has responded swiftly to address the issue. On June 26, they released Ultimate Member version 2.6.3, which provided partial mitigation against the vulnerability. Subsequently, on July 1, version 2.6.7 was released, offering a complete fix for the security flaw.

Disturbingly, it has come to light that over 200,000 WordPress websites have incorporated the Ultimate Member plug-in. Given the high number of installations and the potential delay in updating the plug-in due to inadequate information dissemination, these websites remain exceptionally vulnerable to exploitation by malicious actors.

Web administrators and website owners are strongly advised to take immediate action by updating their Ultimate Member plug-in to the latest version, 2.6.7, to safeguard their websites against potential attacks. Additionally, it is crucial to remain vigilant and monitor any suspicious activity or unauthorized access attempts.

Experts emphasize the significance of promptly addressing software vulnerabilities and staying up-to-date with the latest security patches. Regularly updating plug-ins and software is an essential practice that ensures website integrity and safeguards against emerging cyber threats.

If Hyundai chooses Canada for its second North American EV factory, it would mark the brand’s second venture in the region. Hyundai previously established an assembly plant in the area in 1989, but due to lower-than-expected sales, it was temporarily halted in 1993 and ultimately shut down in 1995.

With its existing manufacturing facilities in the United States, including the recently announced EV factory in Georgia, Hyundai aims to solidify its position as a leading player in the North American EV market. Instagram has been working on a Twitter competitor named Threads, which was leaked a few weeks back. Now, it appears the company is all set to launch it in the coming days or weeks officially.

The official Instagram Threads application from Meta is now available for pre-order on Apple’s App Store, indicating that the launch is imminent.

While the company has not yet revealed the launch date, the listing on the App Store reveals that the application could get launched on 6th July, in just a couple of days. It is being said that Instagram Threads will integrate with the decentralized social media protocol used by Mastodon, called ActivityPub.

The official description of the application on the App Store listing reads: “Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow. Whatever it is you’re interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favorite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.”

It remains to be seen if the company will adopt a slower rollout for users, which is more likely to happen. So, while the app may be available for download from the 6th of July, not everyone will be able to post on the platform from that date.

Twitter has been facing a lot of issues with the platform, especially after its acquisition by Elon Musk. While there were issues with the content moderation policies, the platform has had a lot of technical problems over the past few weeks. Given Twitter’s condition these days, it looks like a perfect time to launch a competing product.

Yesterday evening, the brand confirmed some of the connectivity features of the Nord CE 3. At the same time, it also revealed the fast charging capabilities of the Nord 3.

OnePlus also confirmed through a new teaser that the OnePlus Nord 3 will support 80W SuperVOOC fast charging technology. As per other teasers, the Nord 3 will have a 6.74-inch OLED display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate, an OIS-enabled 50-megapixel IMX890 primary camera, 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and an alert slider. The Nord 3 is confirmed to arrive in color choices, such as Tempest Grey and Misty Green.

OnePlus will also unveil the OnePlus Nord Buds 2r alongside the new Nord phones. It will come with 12.4mm titanium-coated dynamic drivers, dual microphones, an AI algorithm for clearer calls, up to 8 hours of playback time for the buds, 38 hours of battery life with the charging case, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and 94 ms of low-latency. It will be available in two shades: Deep Grey and Triple Blue.

Hence, it seems likely that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will maintain the IPX8 water resistance level found in its predecessor models. According to another tweet from the tipster, the Z Fold 5 will also feature a similar display crease on the inner foldable screen as the Z Fold 4.

Contrary to earlier reports suggesting that Samsung has implemented a new waterdrop hinge to decrease the display crease, the tipster’s claim suggests that the crease on the Z Fold 5 will be virtually indistinguishable from that of the Z Fold 4.

The Z Fold 5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset, which works at 3.36GHz. It will be equipped with 12 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. It may house a 4,400mAh battery with 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging support.

According to the tipster, the Galaxy M34 5G will arrive in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM variants in the country. He added that the device will be priced at Rs 21,000 to Rs 24,000. Sony has unveiled its mocopi system that condenses all the motion-capture hardware that a VR content creator requires into six simple, wearable sensors. The Sony mocopi system comes with a companion app for iOS and Android. This allows the user to seamlessly save the full-body avatars to phones or other mobile devices.

The Sony mocopi system is compatible with developer resources like Unity and Engine for greater versatility. The mocopi was developed as a VR equivalent of ZV-series cameras for vloggers. It does not require the purchase of full-body gear to produce full-scale avatars. The extra gear that has been omitted with the mocopi includes a skin suit or high-speed cameras in the studio.

There are just six sensor modules in the mocopi and it comes with straps, clips, and other accessories for strategic body movements. You can move your head, wrist, hip, ankle easily with the mocopi. Each sensor is IPX5/IPX8/IP6X-rated for all the needed protection from the elements and water. It can last for up to 10 hours using its battery which is recharged via USB-C.

The KTM Macina Sport SX Prime electric bike has been unveiled. The new KTM e-bike comes with a carbon frame and it is equipped with the Bosch Performance SX Smart System. The carbon frame design of the e-trekking bike keeps it light for easier maneuverability.

The Macina Sport SX Prime e-bike has an integrated Bosch Purion 200 Display and provides ride information like your speed and remaining battery level. The integrated Bosch Purion 200 Display & Remote also allows the user to control the assistance level. The e-bike has the eBike Flow companion app for customizing the settings. The e-bike uses the same Smart System as the Macina Revelator SX Prime road bike. It uses a 55Nm motor with a top speed of 25km/h and a 400Wh Compact Tube battery. OTA updates can also be installed on the bike via the eBike Flow app.

The Macina Sport SX Prime comes with an SRAM X0 Eagle T-Type 12-speed rear derailleur and a FOX Float 32TC Factory 50mm FIT4 suspension fork. The tires of the e-bike also provide a grip supported by Magura MTI2-Piston brakes for effective stopping distances. The KTM Alumee light, rear rack, a Litemove AE-200 headlight, and the AXA Juno LED brake light.

The bike’s roughly 17kg weight can permit a total weight of up to 121kg and it is priced in Europe at €8,199 (~$8,920). The e-bike has already been listed by some of the retailers in Germany but its specific release date is yet unknown.

The circular ring on the back makes the device stand apart from the rest of the Android pack. The handset has a curved back with a sleek finish.

Previous reports have revealed the new phone will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, a mid-range processor manufactured on the 4nm process node, with 4 ARM Cortex-A78 cores and 4 ARM Cortex-A55 cores, as well as Adreno 710 graphics processor. Honor X50 could be equipped with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage and run Android 13 out of the box.

The screen of the Honor X50 is supposed to be a 6.78-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 2652×1200 pixels and an underneath fingerprint scanner. There could be an 8MP front-facing camera. For photography, the device may get a 100MP main camera and a 20MP secondary shooter. It could pack a 5800mAh battery unit with support for 35W fast charging.

This also suggests that MIUI 15 will be based on both Android 13 and Android 14, similar to MIUI 14, which had versions for both Android 12 and Android 13.
