Multi-Device Pairing May be Arriving for Apple Watch this Year

The Apple Watch can only sync with one iPhone at a time, and this was clearly a deliberate design choice from Apple because it is designed to be a personal device linked to a specific user’s Apple ID. The watch’s data and settings are synced with the iPhone, and security features depend on the pairing. This ensures data and settings remain secure and that the watch operates smoothly with its intended iPhone companion. However, do you find yourself frustrated with the fact that you can only pair it with one device at a time? Well, according to a Twitter tipster known as @analyst941, you may soon be able to sync your Apple Watch with multiple Apple devices, including an iPad and a Mac.

The tipster earlier predicted Dynamic Island on iPhones ahead of launch

The tipster made a great call on the Dynamic Island feature before it was announced last year, giving us a glimmer of hope that his latest prediction could be true. While there is no official confirmation, the thought of being able to use Apple Watches with more than one device is certainly exciting. Imagine being able to view your Apple Fitness+ workouts on your iPad while your Apple Watch tracks your progress. Or using your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac computer or complete an online Apple Pay transaction. The possibilities are endless!

Apple Watch

While we don’t know exactly when this feature will be introduced or which Apple Watch models will have it, it’s speculated that it may be included in upcoming updates such as watchOS 10, iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS 14. Alternatively, it may be delayed until the 2024 updates. In addition to his prediction about the Apple Watch, @analyst941 has also made some interesting predictions about upcoming features on iOS 17, which will be announced during the WWDC 2023 Developer’s Conference keynote on June 5th. And while some of his predictions may seem far-fetched, one can’t help but feel excited about the possibility of solid-state buttons replacing mechanical buttons on the upcoming premium iPhone 15 models.

While other analysts disagree with this prediction, @analyst941 stands by his claim and suggests that the development team is working too closely with new hardware to turn back now. It’s always exciting to hear rumors and predictions about upcoming technology features, even if they don’t come to fruition. In the meantime, we’ll just have to sit back and wait for Apple to confirm these rumors. But one thing is for sure – the future of Apple technology is looking very exciting!

Volkswagen Unveils ID.7 Saloon with 435-Mile Range and 286hp Motor

Electric vehicles boast numerous advantages over traditional internal cars, but their range is not one of them. For example, a typical gasoline-powered car with a 50-60 liter fuel tank can travel around 500-600 kilometers, and this distance increases with a larger fuel tank. Unfortunately, electric cars have a much shorter range. However, manufacturers are actively working to improve this aspect. Although gasoline cars currently have the edge in range, advancements are being made. One such development is the upcoming Volkswagen ID.7 Saloon, which is part of the expanding ID lineup and aims for a 435-mile range. Here are the details…

Volkswagen Expands ID Lineup with Upcoming ID.7 Saloon

Volkswagen has been active in the electric vehicle market for some time and continues to expand its product lineup. The company’s latest move in this direction is the ID.7 saloon, which is designed to compete with popular models like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. The vehicle particularly stands out for its impressive range. It comes in two main packages: the ID.7 Pro, equipped with a 77kWh battery for a range of up to 382 miles, and the more advanced Pro S variant, which boasts an 82kWh battery and a top range of 435 miles.

Both models come with a rear-mounted 286hp single motor, which has the highest torque of any electric Volkswagen model to date. Moreover, rumors suggest that the company will not stop there and will introduce a new version with a dual-motor setup. The car will feature a 15-inch infotainment screen and an augmented reality head-up display, along with backlit touch sliders for easy access to volume and temperature controls at night, addressing concerns with previous models.

Additionally, the ID.7 will include smart climate control, massage seats with cooling, heating, and drying functions, and a voice-controlled electronically dimmable panoramic sunroof. A 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system with a 14-speaker setup is available as an optional extra. Furthermore, the ID.7 will come equipped with advanced automated driver assistance technology, such as VW’s latest Travel Assist with swarm data, which supports assisted lane changes on motorways at speeds above 56mph.

The ID.7 is scheduled to launch in Europe and China in autumn 2023, followed by a North American release in 2024. A

Samsung’s Q1 2023 profits fall by 95% due to weak chip demand

Samsung, the South Korean technology giant, has reported a massive 95% decline in its operating profit in the first quarter of 2023. This has been largely attributed to the weakening demand for its semiconductor products, which is its largest source of revenue. The company’s chip division incurred a loss of 4.58 trillion won ($3.41 billion) for the quarter, mainly due to the falling memory chip prices and the declining demand for chip products.

Samsung

Samsung’s Q1 2023 earnings report highlights a significant profit decline

Samsung has reported a revenue of 63.75 trillion Korean won ($47.6 billion) for the quarter, which is down 18% compared to the same period last year. This is the smallest profit for any quarter in 14 years for the company. However, Samsung is optimistic about the future and expects a slight recovery in the current quarter, with the possibility of companies accumulating chips ahead of the third quarter.

Despite the significant decline in the company’s chip division, Samsung’s mobile division has performed well, with a 22% increase in revenue compared to the previous quarter. This has been attributed to the success of the Galaxy S23 series, which has brought in strong sales. Samsung plans to continue supporting the sales of its premium models while also boosting sales of its new mass-market devices like the Galaxy A54 and A34.

Samsung has experienced losses in its memory chip division due to a variety of factors, including the stockpiling of chips by smartphone and PC makers during the pandemic. With consumer demand dropping off amidst high inflation and global economic uncertainties, these stockpiles have left excess inventory that has yet to be depleted.

Overall, Samsung’s Q1 2023 earnings reflect the ongoing challenges in the global semiconductor market. However, the company’s strong performance in the mobile division and its optimism about the future provide a glimmer of hope for investors and technology enthusiasts alike. Samsung is also planning to reintroduce Exynos chipsets in the upcoming Galaxy S flagships.

Upcoming Nikon Z8 Poised to Be a Compact Version of the World’s Best Pro Camera

Technology continues to advance and make our lives easier. For example, cameras that were once quite large can now be found in flagship phones such as the iPhone 14 Pro or the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Although the quality of these smartphone cameras improves slightly with each new model, they still do not satisfy professionals. This is where manufacturers like Nikon come in. The company has long been known for producing camera models that cater to more demanding customers. According to recent information, Nikon is working on the New Z8 model, which will be a smaller version of the world’s best professional camera. Here are the details…

Upcoming Nikon Z8 Rumored to be a Compact, High-Performance Alternative to the Z9

Nikon has been making waves in the camera market with its recently released Z9 model. The device has received rave reviews from critics and is renowned as one of the best cameras by photographers. The company is now working on a new model, with leaked information revealing details about the eagerly anticipated Nikon Z8. The Z8 is expected to deliver high-performance features in a smaller, more compact package than the Nikon Z9.

Additionally, the Nikon Z8 is set to feature the same 45.7MP stacked sensor as the Z9, providing high-resolution images. The camera is expected to offer burst shooting at 20 FPS for RAW photos and up to 120 FPS for JPEGs. Both cameras reportedly share a 1/32,000-second shutter speed, as well as a native ISO range of 64-25,600 and the ability to record 8K video at 60 FPS.

One of the main differences between the two models is the Z8’s smaller size and lighter weight. It is anticipated to weigh under a kilogram and measure 144 x 118 x 83 mm (5.6 x 4.6 x 3.2 inches). The Z8 is also expected to offer improved dust and moisture resistance compared to the Z9, similar to the protection provided by the Nikon D850. The camera is rumored to feature a 3.2-inch LCD screen on its rear.

Another notable aspect of the Nikon Z8 is its built-in 5-axis image stabilization with six stops. The release date for the Nikon Z8 is still uncertain, but Nikon Rumors speculates that it may launch either in early May or sometime in August.

Huawei’s ChatGPT rival could be called NetGPT

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is the AI of the hour, and unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have heard about it or used it. The chatbot has been making headlines with its clever answers, and companies like Google rushed to create their own versions but haven’t made much progress (yet). Now, it seems that the Chinese behemoth Huawei is also entering the race, aiming to challenge OpenAI with its own version of the chatbot, potentially named NetGPT. The company recently submitted a trademark application for the name to China’s trademark patent office.

NetGPT could be Huawei’s own AI Chatbot

As spotted by Huawei Central, Huawei has apparently applied for the registration of the “Huawei NetGPT” trademark at China’s trademark patent office. The trademark falls under Class 9, which includes scientific instruments, and it’s currently listed as pending. Apart from this, there’s no information available about NetGPT.

huawei-netgpt

The specific details regarding NetGPT are not mentioned in the trademark filing. However, given the name “NetGPT,” it does seem self-explanatory that Huawei intends to develop an AI chatbot system similar to ChatGPT. The company has previously stated that it will not integrate ChatGPT into its products but will instead focus on developing more advanced AI technologies.

While there’s no confirmation from the brand yet, we are hopeful that NetGPT will be Huawei’s answer to OpenAI’s chatbot. With Huawei stepping into the field, it means more options and potentially even cooler AI chatbots for consumers in the near future. Plus, with multiple companies diving into the world of artificial intelligence, there’s bound to be a whole lot of innovation happening. We should be learning more details about this potential chatbot in the near future.

Qualcomm’s new upscaling tech will potentially boost Android games to 4K 60fps

Qualcomm will soon launch a new upscaling technology that could potentially boost Android games to 4K 60fps. The company is rolling out the Snapdragon Game Super Resolution which can transform 1080p games to 4K resolutions. It also delivers significant improvement in the frame per second (fps) rate from 30fps to 60fps or more. Mobile games and XR products with the Snapdragon Game Super Resolution will launch later this year.

Qualcomm

Even with improvements from the late`st Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 series of SoC, Qualcomm seeks to provide a more exciting experience for Android gamers. The new upscaling technology provides boosts in resolution and performance while also minimizing power usage.

The Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (GSR) will maximize mobile game performance and battery life. It will also be functional in non-Snapgragon 8 Gen 2 smartphones, which is interesting. The upscaling technology is beneficial to the gaming process by allowing a game to run at lower resolutions without sacrificing quality. The approach in the GSR uses a new technique to increase resolution, frame rate, and battery life. The prevalent upscaling tech had been the bilinear interpolation.

Qualcomm will soon allow you to play your favorite Android game in 4K 60fps

The new method uses a single pass spatial upscaling technique optimized for Adreno GPUs, which reduces memory usage, bandwidth latency, and battery usage. Qualcomm has already partnered with some game developers to incorporate GSR into their game titles.

Some of the popular games that will incorporate GSR are Call of Duty, Farming Simulator 23 Mobile, and Jade Dynasty: New Fantasy. There are no indications yet on the smartphones that will be compatible with the GSR based on their chipsets.

Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard gets blocked by UK

Microsoft is apparently facing issues with its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in the UK. The government’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has blocked this merger proposition, citing possible monopolistic effects of this deal in the gaming industry.

Microsoft faces a roadblock in Activision Blizzard acquisition in the UK

In a statement, the CMA stated that it is preventing “Microsoft’s proposed purchase of Activision over growing concerns the deal would alter the future of the fast growing cloud gaming market, leading to reduced innovation and less choice for UK gamers over the years to come.” To put things simply, the agency is worried that the acquisition would allow the American tech giant to hold a monopoly in the recently growing cloud gaming market. Since Microsoft announced that it will be buying out Activision Blizzard, it has faced scrutiny from various government bodies across the globe as well as its market competitors.

Microsoft

An example being Sony, which claimed that the company could leverage this acquisition to offer inferior versions of its products (games) from Activision Blizzard on its popular PlayStation platform. Apart from this, it is also facing a pending lawsuit in the US by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) against Microsoft on the grounds that the brand might breach anti trust laws as well and could even establish a monopoly.

The CMA further added that “We have concluded that the merger would result in the most powerful operator in the fast-developing market for cloud gaming, with a current market share of 60-70%, acquiring a portfolio of world-leading games with the incentive to withhold those games from competitors and substantially weaken competition in this important growing market.”
