Meizu 16 and 16 Plus leaked with in-display fingerprint reader, different bezels thickness

Meizu 16 and 16 Plus are set to be unveiled in late August as the most impressive Meizu flagships of the year. Today, a new photo leaked on Twitter shows us a part of the front panel of the upcoming top-end devices, and it lets us notice important details about its display. First of all, the two devices shown in the photo have a slightly different design. We suppose that the one on the left is the Plus version as it seems bigger and it has a narrower bezel on the lower part, while the one on the right should be the standard version.

It is easy to notice the presence of an in-display fingerprint reader on the alleged Plus variant as there is a fingerprint icon on the display. Meizu 16 and 16 Plus have a sleek metal frame which houses a USB Type-C port and two grilles, probably one for the speaker and another for the microphone. At least on the Plus variant, bezels seem to be narrower than the Galaxy S9 line-up and this matches with recent declarations of the company’s CEO and founder Jack Wong. Given the presence of an in-display fingerprint reader, it is kinda sure that the Meizu 16 Plus will feature an AMOLED display as this technology only works with OLED panels.

Even though they will have narrow bezels and their screen-to-body ratio will be high, the two devices will not feature a notch but a classic 18:9 panel. Under the hood, both Meizu 16 and 16 Plus will sport an octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC, the best chipset by Qualcomm which can run at a max frequency of 2.8 GHz. Recently, Jack Wong has implicitly hinted at the fact that the most powerful version of the new flagships will not cost more than 4000 Yuan, which roughly translates into $514 at the actual change.

China is next for the ASUS Zenfone 5Z, Appears on TENAA

The ASUS Zenfone 5Z was announced in February but didn’t go on sale until last month. It first went on sale in Taiwan and then Europe. Today, it has also launched in India. It appears its next stop is China.

The Zenfone 5Z may be launching in China soon as the device has been seen on TENAA’s website. The specs are the same and it will be available in all three variants.

Zenfone 5Z TENAA

ASUS’ Zenfone 5Z is one of the cheapest Snapdragon 845 smartphones in the market at the moment. In Europe and India, the phone sells for less than the OnePlus 6. ASUS will most likely keep to that low-price tag in China too.

FCC filing hints at Bluetooth LE capabilities on the new Galaxy Note 9 S Pen

It is already confirmed that the Galaxy Note 9 will meet with us on August 9. As expected, the rumour mills will keep buzzing until the device is finally unveiled. One major feature expected to be on the device is a new redesigned S Pen stylus. The launch poster even had an image of the S Pen to further solidify talks of a redesign and there are talks of the device doubling as a Bluetooth device was also echoed. That seems to have got some confirmation from the FCC as a recent document shows some details of the S Pen stylus.Samsung Glaxy Note 9 S Pen

The S pen comes with a model number of EJ-PN960. That is consistent with the model number of the Galaxy Note 9 which is SM-N960 as seen on its FCC listing. It is believed that the “P” in the model number refers to “pen” while the document list the device being certified as a “Stylus Pen”.

The document also details that the pen will be able to connect to the Galaxy Note 9 over 2.4GHz Bluetooth LE, which means that the device will have some sort of Bluetooth LE capabilities. Chinese tipster Ice Universe also hinted that the S Pen could double as a wireless Bluetooth speaker and could be used to control the streaming of music and operate a long-range timer but we are not so sure of all these claims. If indeed it would have Bluetooth LE features, the S Pen would need to have a battery crammed inside which could add to its thickness and even the weight. The Galaxy Note 9 isn’t expected with lots of outstanding features but this sounds interesting. We’ll find out more about this on August 9 when the Galaxy Unpacked event would be held.

The OnePlus 6 could have come in Emerald or Sunset Orange

The OnePlus 6 comes in four colors – Mirror Black, Midnight Black, Silk White, and a recently announced Red variant. What if we told you that the OnePlus 6 could have come in Sunset Orange or Emerald?

Leaked photos from OnePlus have revealed the manufacturer played with lots of colors before settling for the announced ones. The photos even show they considered gradient color variants similar to the Twilight color of the Huawei P20/P20 Pro.

Other colors in the pictures include different shades of blue, violet, purple, pink, silver, white, and even a black version with a carbon fiber appearance. There are also multiple color gradient variants. We particularly dig the Sunset Orange variant.

Last year, The Verge did an exclusive coverage on the production of the OnePlus 5, revealing how OnePlus arrived at the final design. You can read our version here. Hopefully, we’ll get to see something equally interesting for the OnePlus 6T or OnePlus 7.

Xiaomi will focus on the real needs of the user in designing MIUI 11

Xiaomi‘s MIUI 10 update is already being pushed to up to 33 models cutting across the Mi and Redmi models. The MIUI team is said to have written an article today which is sort of a review of the design story behind MIUI 10. Interestingly, the article also dabbled into discussing the next-gen MIUI 11 version.xiaomi miui 10

The article gives us an idea of what Xiaomi will be aiming for with the next-gen custom ROM. The present design of the MIUI ROM was first tailored to fit into the 16:9 aspect ratio models that used to be popular back then. With the advent of full-screen phones, the design has also been tweaked to fit the full-screen design, even in cases where there is a notch.

However, even though the MIUI interface isn’t bad, Xiaomi says it will focus on improving the UI during the development of MIUI 11. The focus on MIUI 11 will not be on making a big difference in the user interface between MIUI 10 and MIUI 11. Instead, the focus will be on a design focused on the real needs of consumers. The rollout is still far away but we believe the development process is already in motion.

OPPO patents new foldable smartphone designs

In the past year, OPPO has patented at least 2 designs for a flexible smartphone. Now, three new patents have surfaced online, revealing new designs OPPO might use for its first foldable smartphone.

OPPO foldable phone design 1

In one embodiment, OPPO settles for an inward folding design for a clamshell appearance. In order to prevent the flexible display from getting damaged due to opening and closing of the device, OPPO has put airbags in both halves of the screen. When the device is unfolded, the trapped air in the bags move to the fold of the display and acts as a cushion to make it align with the rest of the screen.

OPPO Foldable phone design 2

For the second design which was published in February of this year, OPPO has put three screens on the device. When folded, the device appears to have two screens – one on each side. However, one of the screens is actually covering another one. This third screen is revealed when you unfold and pull out the “rear display”.

Its third patent uses a fold-out design which also leaves the screens unprotected. It is similar to one of its earlier patents, but in this case, all the cameras are in front. OPPO has filed multiple versions of this design. In one, the device uses a rotating mechanism and in another, it uses a combination of a hinge and a rotating mechanism.

OPPO Foldable phone design 3

When unfolded, the phone doubles its width to appear like a tablet in landscape mode. The front-facing camera, sensor, and earpiece are on the right while the rear camera and LED flash are on the left.

Honor Note 10 moniker confirmed by Honor’s President; Launch seems imminent

In June, Honor’s president George Zhao had recently claimed that he has been using a large-screened smartphone along with Honor 10. It seems that Zhao has today confirmed the name of the big-screen phone as he has revealed that the Honor Note 10 is the next smartphone from the company. He has also claimed that the firm has been working on it since the past two years.

Honor Note 10 Confirmed by Zhao Ming

The Honor Note 9 was expected to succeed the Note 8 phone that was made official in 2017. However, now that Zhao has confirmed Honor Note 10 moniker, it seems that the Chinese manufacturer has skipped the Note 9 name for the upcoming Honor Note phone.

The Honor Note 8 featured a massive 6.6-inch Super AMOLED screen. Hence, the Note 10 is likely to house a bigger display. It was recently leaked that the upcoming Honor Note 10 that is codenamed as Ravel is fitted with a 6.9-inch S-AMOLED display. It is being speculated that it Note 10’s massive screen may feature a notch.

Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium up for Pre-Orders from July 11, but Price is insane

Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium was announced back in April but till now, it didn’t hit the stores. Finally, the Japanese company has confirmed the date when handset will officially go on pre-order in China. The Chinese version of the new flagship will be available for pre-orders starting from July 11 with a very expensive price tag: 6000 Yuan, which roughly translates into $900. The confirmation has arrived on Weibo from the official account of the Xperia phones division. Note that a few days ago it was confirmed that the flagship will have a price tag of $999.99 in the U.S.

These prices make Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium one of the most expensive smartphones in the market: iPhone X is currently the only device (excluding luxury phones and limited editions) which has a higher listing price. The new confirmation by Sony debunks the rumors which suggested that the phone would go on pre-order on July 2 (or even July 5): they were probably only referred to today’s announcement of the pre-sale starting date. Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium features one of the most impressive specs sheets you can ever find on a mobile phone. It sports a 5.8-inch display with a 4K resolution and the HDR technology.

Sony-Xperia-XZ2-Premium-Chrome-Black

Under the hood, it packs an octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset by Qualcomm paired with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage expandable with a micro SD. Its battery is a 3540 mAh unit supporting Quick Charge 3.0. Unfortunately, even though it has an 18:9 display, its bezels are far from being narrow. But on the other hand, it has loud and comfortable dual front speakers.
