Flipkart, the Indian eCommerce marketplace, is teasing new announcements on 17th April that the company says will “disrupt the mobile phone landscape.”
The company is gearing up to launch a new phone on its platform as well as a ‘big’ brand exclusively on its marketplace. Further, the company will also be unveiling a new value-added service for the phone.
Rumors suggest that the announcement could be related to the upcoming Huawei P20 series launch in India, which Huawei has been teasing. However, it seems unlikely given that the P20 is a high-end smartphone series and with Flipkart teasing to disrupt the market, the phone is likely to be a mid-range device.
Another possibility is the next-generation Moto G-series smartphones from Lenovo-owned Motorola. The company is expected to launch Moto G6 lineup as well as Moto E5 lineup pretty soon. Motorola has scheduled a launch event on 19th April in Brazil, where it is expected to launch the Moto G6 series smartphones.
The BigOnFlipkart teaser from the eCommerce company is accompanied by a video message from the company CEO, Kalyan Krishnamurthy. In what Flipkart calls a ‘clue’ Krishnamurthy says, “Meaningful partnerships drive a successful business. Flipkart’s philosophy of customer centricity and long-term partnerships has transformed the way India buys mobile phones. We are proud to enter into an exclusive partnership with a tech giant to disrupt the mobile phone landscape in a big way. Get ready for 2 big announcements soon.”
The value-added service teased by the Indian eCommerce company on its ‘BigAnnouncement’ landing page seems to an insurance coverage as Flipkart is promising that prospective customer of the upcoming phone will get extensive insurance coverage so that they can live with less worry about protecting the device from any physical damage.
Flipkart has scheduled a press event in New Delhi to announce what the company has to offer. It’s just a matter of few hours before we know what’s in store from Flipkart.
Back when Xiaomi announced the Mi Mix 2S, the company also revealed a brand new Mi Geek Shoulder Bag. At the time, the company said that the new backpack will go on sale on April 16. Today, as promised, the bag is up for purchase for a price tag of 399 Yuan (~$64).
Like the name suggests, the Mi Geek Shoulder Bag is deigned for gamers and gadget enthusiasts. The bag has a futuristic look and comes with a geometric mosaic design. So, it will definitely stand out when you walk on the street. This unique design was developed with the help of 90Fun, the popular suitcase manufacturer. 90Fun is experienced at making smart suitcases catering to the needs of the modern travellers, so their influence brings a smart modern look to the backpack.
The Mi Geek Shoulder Bag is made out of a dense matte fabric which is splash proof. The bag can accommodate laptops up to 15.6-inches and comes with dedicated compartments for headphones, sunglasses, mouse, flash drives, and memory cards. Despite its slightly pricey 399 Yuan price tag, gamers and gadget enthusiasts should definitely check out this new backpack from Xiaomi. You can also pair it up with the company’s Mi Gaming Laptop that was announced last month.
Before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 even that was held in February this year, the rumor mill had speculated that Sony may debut Xperia XZ2 Premium flagship phone at the tech trade show However, the Japanese tech giant had only unveiled the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact smartphones at MWC 2018. Today, the company has officially introduced the Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphone that is equipped with a 4K HDR display, Snapdragon 845 mobile platform, 6 GB of RAM and dual rear cameras that is designed to capture amazing shots in extreme low-light conditions.
Design
The Xperia XZ2 Premium sports the same Ambient Flow design that was introduced on the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact phones. The rear side of the phone is also made out of glass. The back panel features a flash unit which is placed above the vertically stacked dual camera module and towards the center is the fingerprint scanner. It comes in two colors like Chrome Black and Chrome Silver. The IP68 rated chassis of the Xperia XZ2 Premium measures 158 x 80 x 11.9 mm and weighs 236 grams.

Cameras
The Xperia XZ2 Premium features the Motion Eye dual camera module and Fusion ISP that was demonstrated at MWC 2018 this year. The dual rear cameras can shoot photos with ISO 51,200 and videos with ISO 12,800. It includes an f/1.8 aperture 19-megapixel 1/2.3” Exmos RS RGB sensor that has an individual pixel size of 1.2micron. It is accompanied by f/1.6 aperture 12-megapixel 1/2.3” monochrome sensor with pixel size of 1.55micron.
The dual rear cameras found on Apple and Samsung phones feature telephoto lens as the secondary camera. However, Sony has included a monochrome sensor on the Xperia XZ2 Premium to capture more light and use the Aube Fusion ISP to produce noiseless images even in completely dark environments. The dual rear cameras can capture images with bokeh effect. It can also shoot 4K HDR videos and super slow-motion videos at 960 fps. Its other features include EIS and 5-axis stabilization.
For snapping selfies, it is equipped with a 13-megapixel 1/3.06” Exmor RS sensor. It can be used to shoot images in ISO of up to 3200 and capture images in ISO of up to 1600. During the launch of the Mi Mix 2s on March 27, Xiaomi also unveiled a new Mi wireless charging pad which works for the Mi Mix 2s and other phones like the Galaxy S series and iPhones supporting wireless charging. For the avoidance of doubt, the Mi Mix 2s is the first Xiaomi model to feature support for wireless charging.
The Mi Wireless charging pad utilises the popular Qi wireless charging standard. It uses the normal 5W rating and a 7.5W fast charge rating and has a 5V 2A and 9V 2A rating. The wireless charger also comes with protection from extreme temperatures and high current as well as foreign body detection.
The Xiaomi Wireless charger is only indicated for use on the Mi Mix 2s, according to the product details on the body of the packaging box. The retail box only houses the wireless charger and a quick starter guide. There is no data cable or an adapter inside
Design wise, the wireless charging dock comes with a white coloured body devoid of any text. The shell is made of plastic while the upper surface is covered with a layer of thick silica gel through a process similar to secondary injection moulding. As a result of the silica gel, the surface is soft to touch with the hand. It also gives it an anti-slip feature both at the top and bottom but the bottom one uses a rubber pad to create an anti-slip feature. The charging pad is potable with a radius of 47mm and thickness of 12.44mm. It uses a USB-C input interface and supports 5V2A / 9V2A input. There is also a green indicator light at the side of the wireless charger. The light stays on during normal charging while it flashes when the device is in protection mode.
Coming to the teardown, the wireless charging pad is held together by four screws. The screws are hidden under the for rubber pad at the base. Opening up the device reveals a very simple build. The top aspect could be seen with a plastic outer body and the silicon gel surface in the middle moulded with the plastic. The bottom surface is entirely composed of plastic material. All the parts are mounted at the bottom of the cover.
The internal components consist of a PCB board and a metal heat conducting block underneath. The conducting block spreads the heat and distributes it to avoid accumulation of too much heat. The internal is translucent and this is achieved using a black light-proof adhesive sheet underneath to prevent light leakage. The USB type-C female port is firmly welded at four different points to the PCB. The metal heat sink is fixed by clips to the PCB and has screw points which hold it to the plastic casing.
The charging coil is located at the middle, just above the PCB and it is soldered to the borad at two points. There is also a temperature sensor which detects high temperature and the charging pad goes into protective mode. The temperature probe is placed in the middle of the coil to measure the temperature. The coils have a high saturation degree of solder joints, flat side-mount chip LEDs, and the temperature sensor pad is glued to avoid vibrations.
In all, the Xiaomi Wireless Charger has a minimalist and simple design and for a device that measures up to Apple’s wireless charger 7.5W fast charging output, the device is nicely priced at 99 Yuan ($15). We feel it is worth buying since its usage is broad and not limited to the Mi Mix 2s.
Meizu has announced a new version of its Android-based OS called Flyme will launch soon. The new version will be called Flyme 7 and will be unveiled on April 22, the same date of the launch of the Meizu 15.
The info comes from the official Twitter accounts of Flyme OS and Meizu’s head of marketing, Ard Boudeling. The official Weibo account also released teasers yesterday ahead of the confirmation today.

On Sunday, April 22, Meizu will announce its new flagship phone – the Meizu 15. The Meizu 15 will come along with Lite and Plus variants, but the three phones may not be the only products launching that day.
A new teaser on Meizu’s official Twitter page hints at the launch of new earphones too. The tweet which was posted yesterday says “A new sound. One week left” and includes a photo which has an audio theme.
Last year, when Meizu announced the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus, it also announced the Meizu Flow earphones. The Meizu Flow is a pair of wired earphones created together with the Institute of Acoustics and Japanese designer Kosho Tsuboi.

Gaming phones are the new trend in the market and the Chinese are making sure that they are on top of this trend. After the launch of the Xiaomi backed Black Shark gaming smartphone, another Chinese company, Nubia, is all set to unveil its own gaming smartphone — the Nubia Red Magic Phone. The launch is on April 19 and the company has started sending out invites to the media. What’s interesting about these invites is how they look.
The Nubia Red Magic Gaming phone invite comes in the form of a supply crate from the popular game Rules of Survival: Battle Royale. If you haven’t played this game before, then know that during gameplay, multiple supply crates drop in from the sky that helps users gather ammo and other gadgets in order to increase their chances of survival. The supply crates in the game look like the invite above.
Once you open the invite, you’d find a scroll with the code: 0008,4767,7621,0008,2052,3172. Chinese media has already decoded it and it says, “No Red Magic Survive”. Don’t go by its literal meaning as it kind of means ‘Be the Best’. So, this is a way to keep the media interested in the April 19 event.
The company has already started teasing the phone and we have also got a first glimpse of the handset thanks to a image shared by one of its executives. Expect powerful hardware, next-gen cooling technology, and features that ensure high frame rate during gameplay on the new Red Magic Phone.
Last month, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor launched the Honor Play 7C in China. While the phone went on sale in China from 13th March, the Flame Red color variant was not available for purchase. Today, the company has announced that the Flame Red color variant of the Honor Play 7C will be available on sale from 17th April.
The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage model is priced at 899 Yuan (approximately $143) while the top-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage cost 1299 Yuan, which roughly converts to $207. Apart from Red color, the device is also available in Black, Gold, and Blue color options.
The Honor 7C sports a large 5.99-inch TFT LCD IPS display with 1440 x 720 pixels screen resolution. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 450 14nm octa-core chipset clocked at 1.8GHz, with integrated Adreno 506 GPU.
The processor is paired with 3GB of RAM on the standard version and there’s also another version which packs 4GB RAM. The 3GB RAM version houses 32GB of storage while the 4GB RAM model comes with 64GB of internal storage. Both models come with a microSD card slot, allowing users to expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB.
The smartphone features a dual camera setup at the rear, which is located on the top left corner and is aligned horizontally with an LED flash on the inner edge. It comprises a 13-megapixel primary + 2-megapixel secondary camera sensors. The secondary camera is a bokeh camera which should create vivid shots with blurred background. On the front side, there’s an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with the display acting as a smart soft light when taking selfies.
There’s a fingerprint sensor on the back and the phone comes with the face unlock feature. The device is running the latest EMUI 8.0 custom interface which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. The phone packs a 3,000mAh battery which the company claims is optimized to provide longer battery life.

Earlier, Xiaomi’s Senior Vice President Wang Xiang said in an interview with CNBC that the company is presently gathering the “resources” it needs for a major push in the U.S., which many believed as a hint for preparing for the IPO. Xioami also successfully achieved its annual revenue target of 100 billion Yuan ($15 billion) in October 2017. A teaser that was released over the weekend had confirmed that Xiaomi’s next smartphone would be the all new Mi 6X mid-range smartphone. It will be arriving as a successor for the Xiaomi Mi 5X that was launched in July last year. A new teaser released by the Chinese manufacturer on its official Weibo account reveals the new phone in real. Moreover, it also confirms that the rear and front sides of the phone will be equipped with 20-megapixel camera.
As it can be seen in the below, Xiaomi will be announcing the Xiaomi Mi 6X phone through an unveil event at Wuhan University in China on April 25. The poster gives a rear view of the blue-colored Xiaomi Mi 6X. It reveals that its rear panel seems to be made out of metal and it is fitted with a dual camera setup at the top-left corner. The vertically stacked dual cameras resembles with the dual camera setup found on the iPhone X. A fingerprint scanner is also available on the backside of the Mi 6X.
The official Weibo post that accompanies the teaser confirms that a 20-megapixel sensor will be available on the front and rear sides of the Mi 6X. Recent reports have revealed that the frontside of the smartphone is fitted with a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor while the dual camera setup on the backside includes a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 sensor and a 20-megapixel Sony 376 sensor. The front and rear cameras of the Mi 6X are expected to offer stellar photography experience as they are expected to be equipped with AI.
The TENAA listing of the Mi 6X has already revealed that it features a 5.99-inch display that produces Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It could be fueled by Snapdragon 660 that comes with an Artificial Intelligence Engine. It is expected to arrive in 4 GB / 6 GB RAM options and storage sizes like 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. A 2,910mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 is expected to power the smartphone.
The Xiaomi Mi 6X is likely to be exclusively available in China. Outside of the home market, the handset may debut as Xiaomi Mi A2 under the Android One initiative. The arrival of the Mi A2 seems imminent as the Mi A1 that was introduced in September last year has been discontinued.
None of Xiaomi’s new Redmi phones is powered by a MediaTek processor but it may not remain like that for long. A new Xiaomi smartphone codenamed Cereus powered by a MT6765 SoC has been seen on Geekbench, and there are rumors it may be the Redmi 5X.
The Xiaomi Cereus was benchmarked a few days ago. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo and has 3GB of RAM. Powering it is a MediaTek MT6765, an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz.
Information on the web says the chipset is built on a 12nm node like the Helio P60 which means it should have better efficiency and performance than the 14nm Snapdragon 450. A Geekbench test for the SoC from last month shows that the chipset reaches up to 2.3GHz in clock speed.
There is also another Geekbench listing that shows that Xiaomi isn’t the only one developing a device powered by the processor. A Vivo phone was benchmarked last month with the same chipset but has 4GB of RAM.
The Xiaomi Cereus’ scores are a bit lower than that of the test device and the Vivo phone. This may be due to the higher clock speed on the test device although it also has 3GB RAM, and the Vivo having 4GB RAM.
The big question is what device is this? There are some saying that this may be the Xiaomi Redmi 6A but seeing that the Redmi 5A is just 4 months old, that may be far-fetched. Others say this may be the Redmi 5X. This makes sense since the Redmi 4X doesn’t have a successor yet.
The Redmi 4X was released in May 2017. The Cereus showing up just a month to the 1st year anniversary of the Redmi 4X doesn’t look like a coincidence. So there is a chance the Redmi 5X will launch next month. We may actually be in for a surprise and get it much earlier, possibly alongside the Mi 6X on April 25.
