EXCLUSIVE: We’ve Got OnePlus 6 Pricing Details & Its Case

There’s no doubt that OnePlus 6 is going to meet us earlier this year, likely later this month. While we are still not sure of the launch date of the upcoming flagship, what we’ve got today is the OnePlus 6 pricing details. We’ve also got a picture of a OnePlus 6’s case which reveals its back design, but let’s first take a look at the pricing.

According to our source, the OnePlus 6 will be costlier this year, starting at a price of 3299 Yuan ($523) for the 64GB version. In comparison, the OnePlus 5T released back in 2017 came with a cheaper starting price of 2999 Yuan ($475). We’ve got the pricing details for other variants as well, including a 256GB version. So, the OnePlus 6 128GB variant will retail at 3799 Yuan ($602) while the 256GB variant will be costlier at 4399 Yuan ($697).

Apart from the pricing details, we’ve also got the picture of an official OnePlus 6 case. The case confirms that the back design of the OP6 will be different than that of the OPPO R15. So instead of a horizontally placed dual camera setup, expect a vertically arranged dual camera setup located at the center of the OnePlus 6’s back. The opening at the back of the case looks quite big, which likely means that the flash and the fingerprint sensor are placed below the camera setup. We have already seen this design on a leaked prototype OnePlus 6 handset before, so it further confirms the design. Considering this new information, it looks like the front of the phone, which is confirmed to feature a notch, will be similar to the OPPO R15 while the back will feature a different design.

Previously Leaked OnePlus 6 Prototype

As for the release date, our source tells us that the OnePlus 6 should launch a couple of weeks later. We would put our bet on a late April release, but we’ll have to wait for an official teaser to confirm this date.

Our source has been right in the past. In fact, we were the first ones to reveal that the OnePlus 6 would launch early this year. We expected a March end release, but it looks like the launch is going to be sometime around late April. So, we are confident that this information is accurate.

That’s all we have about the OnePlus 6 at the moment. We’ll try to get as much information as possible before its official launch. So stay tuned for updates.

A Compilation of April Fools’ Jokes for 2018

Every year, individuals and brands alike celebrate April Fools’ Day by playing pranks or practical jokes on one another. This year is no different and we’ve scoured the web for jokes from some popular brands.

OnePlus PeiCoin April Fools'

OnePlus – PeiCoin

OnePlus first released a teaser for its PeiCoin a few days ago but has now released full details. In an official forum post, OnePlus describes the PeiCoin as a digital currency that will be integrated with future OxygenOS releases.

Users will be able to mine PeiCoin individually or in groups, transfer to one another and also use it as an exchange for local currency. OnePlus even goes as far as saying it believes the currency will be adopted globally someday. A PeiCoin Wallet is said to arrive via an OTA update.

OnePlus 6 confirmation

While most of the post is just balderdash, there was a key info at the end. OnePlus officially confirmed that its next phone will be called the OnePlus 6. Up until today, it has not referred to its next phone as the OnePlus 6.

Xiaomi – Mi A1 With Six Cameras

This is a lazy attempt at a joke from Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer has slapped four extra cameras on the much loved Xiaomi Mi A1 bringing the number of rear cameras to six. While we think their decision to choose the Mi A1 as the subject of the joke is due to its name A1 – April 1, we believe they could have come up with something better.

Meizu – Meizu M6s 3.5 Edition

Meizu’s head of global marketing, Ard Boudeling, must have seen Xiaomi’s April Fools’ joke and quickly came up with his own version. His April Fools’ joke is a Meizu M6s with three 3.5mm audio jacks and its called the Meizu M6s 3.5 Edition. Boring!

Ulefone

Ulefone was straightforward with its own joke. A gif posted on their Twitter page teases their “new flagship” which has a Full View display, a Snapdragon 845 processor, and a half-screen in-display fingerprint scanner. The device is said to launch today. Let’s know how much it cost if you find it.

Razer: Project Venom v2

Razer already released its April Fools’ joke yesterday and it is pretty funny. The manufacturer which is known for its gaming hardware and smartphone decided to make something for players to keep up with its products. Therein comes Project Venom v2, a solution that boosts your gaming abilities and an improved variant of 2010’s Project Venom.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8UJE7DoyJ8[/embedyt]

Unlike the original that had to be used intravenously or inhaled after diffusing the solution into a green gas, Razer says you should “insert the Venom V2 into your preferred orifice”. Then proceed to configure your preferred enhancements on Razer Synapse – a hardware configuration tool for Razer products. You will be able to choose from the following enhancements:

  • Trigger Finger – your left/right mouse clicking speed  and mouse reaction time increases.
  • Key Storm – increases key press speeds to over 9000 APM.
  • Eagle Eyes – gives you true sight by increasing your map awareness by 500% and your eye reaction time by 5000 FPS for guaranteed headshots.

Razer says there will be a Venom app for Razer phones and is also looking for beta testers for Project Venom V2. You can sign up here. You also stand the chance to win a full suite of Razer Chroma hardware when you sign up. Project Venom V2 comes in 8 different flavors.

Nokia – Nokia CityMan

Development in the mobile phone industry has seen an exponential growth in the last decade but one feature that hasn’t seen much improvement is the battery. With phones combining all the features of multiple gadgets into one, it’s no surprise battery life suffers.

HMD Global has announced its next smartphone, the Nokia CityMan with 1-year battery life. Sounds good right? As long as you are willing to forfeit all the current features of not only a smartphone but even a modern feature phone.

The Nokia CityMan is a dinosaur in the mobile industry. First released in 1987, the 760g phone packs a 1,000mAh battery that should be sufficient for calls and powering its monochrome display.

T-Mobile – SideKicks

We have saved the best for last. T-Mobile brought back its popular SideKick for its April Fools’ joke but this is not the SideKick you remember.

The new SideKicks is the first smartshoephone. Yes, that’s a word now. The Magenta-colored sneakers modeled after Converse sneakers is a smartphone and a shoe combined. It has a slide-out screen, retractable shoelaces that double as earphones, speakers on the left foot, a smart assistant that responds to the hotword “Hey SideKicks”, a fitness tracker, NFC, and more.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQQuOICUylQ[/embedyt]

T-Mobile really went all out on this joke and it is easily the best. If you do like the Magenta colored sneakers, you can actually order the shoes here but just know that it doesn’t have the above mentioned features.

Moto Z3 Play 3D Renders Gives Us A look At Its Side-Mounted Fingerprint Scanner

If Lenovo is sticking to the same schedule as last year, then we may not see the first of the new Moto Z series until June. While we wait, OnLeaks has posted a video and photos of 3D renders of the Moto Z3 Play.

Moto Z3 Play

For the renders of the Moto Z3 Play, OnLeaks has partnered with KillerFeatures and not TigerMobiles.

While the Moto Z3 doesn’t seem to be sporting a serious redesign, there are actually some key changes. The bezels are now smaller to fit a 6-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Shaving off the chin means the fingerprint scanner finds a new home. And rather than move to the back, it is on the right side. The rest of the chin is now home to Motorola’s branding.

The back has also gotten a slight redesign. Actually, it is just the connectors for the Mods. Rather than circular contact pins like the Moto Z2 series, they are now rectangles but still the same number which means the old mods will work fine.

Moto Z3 Play render

#Exclusive Moto Z3 Play's 360-degree video reveal the upcoming smartphone in all its glory.

Posted by Killer Features on Saturday, March 31, 2018

There is a Motorola batwing logo on the back and above it is the same camera house design from last year. Though it now holds two sensors and the LED flash is smaller.

The fingerprint scanner’s new home has pushed the power button to the left side. The SIM tray still sits at the top. There is a USB-C port at the bottom but no 3.5mm audio jack.

Google Home and Home Mini To Finally Land In India This Month

According to a communication shared by Redington India with its retail partners, Google Home and Home Mini will be officially launched in the peninsula in April 2018. After the giant from Mountain View rolled out a new update to Google Assistant which adds the support to the Hindi language, it seems that the new smart speakers are going to hit the shelves in the world’s second highest smartphone market. The launch comes after Amazon made its Echo smart speakers (Echo, Echo Plus, and Echo Dot) with Alexa available to purchase in India back in October.

Google Home

So, there will be a big competition between Google and Amazon, and it is actually hard to establish which company will get the biggest share. Actually, Alexa still cannot understand or speak Hindi, and given that Google Assistant already supports this language, this may be an advantage for Google Home and Home Mini in India. However, according to the latest tests of the virtual assistant, the Hindi support is still not perfect. While the Media Accounts on Google Assistant already support some of the most important music streaming services in India (such as Saavn and Gaana), the vocal commands to interact with these services are still not available.

But we believe that when Google Home and Home Mini will be officially launched in India there will be no issues and the software support will be complete. The two smart speakers have recently been launched in my country (Italy) with prices of €149 and €59, respectively. The Indian price of the smart accessories based on Google Assistant is still unknown at the moment. The only difference between Google Home and Home Mini is the audio quality, as the smart features are exactly the same. And, obviously, the Mini version is smaller as the name suggests.

Indian Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (Redmi 5 Plus) Gets MIUI 9.5 Global Update

Xiaomi is a company known for making a lot of confusion with its smartphones’ names. The device which is known in China and in the global market as the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus has been launched in India with the name Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. The Indian Redmi Note 5 (so the re-branded Redmi 5 Plus and not the Redmi Note 5 Pro with dual cameras) has just received the official update to MIUI 9.5 Global.

redmi note 5

The rollout comes right after the Redmi Note 4 series was updated to MIUI 9.5 and it brings the version number to 9.5.3.0.NEGMIFA. If you own an Indian Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, you can flash the update via recovery by downloading a firmware which weighs 1.4 GB or via fastboot mode with a firmware which weighs 2 GB. Nubia Z18 Mini Launches April 11, To Sport Dual Cameras

Last month, ZTE’s Nubia released the V18 and the N3, both which are mid-range phones. There have been rumors about its main flagship with respect to the name. Some have said it will be called the Z19 while others say it will launch as the Z18. We can confirm that it will be called the Nubia Z18 seeing as the manufacturer has announced the launch date for the Nubia Z18 Mini.

Nubia Z18 Mini poster

Nubia is sticking to its tradition of launching the Mini variant first. Last year, it released the Nubia Z17 Mini in April before launching the Z17 in June.

The poster reveal for the Nubia Z18 Mini teases the phone will come with dual cameras. There is also the figure “24” beside the dual lens which may mean the front camera has been bumped up from 16MP to 24MP or that the phone’s dual cameras have a combined megapixel count of 24.

Team Develops Contactless Heart Rate Measurement Using Helio P10/X20 Smartphone

MediaTek’s Everyday Genius is a program by the chip manufacturer to encourage individuals to solve problems using MediaTek technology. MediaTek publishes stories of those who have been able to succeed in this endeavor.

MediaTek heart rate measurement

The latest Everyday Story is of a team of two who found a way to measure heart rate without the need for touching the patient. Yu-Ting Chen and Tung-Chien Chen who both work for MediaTek developed the procedure using smartphones powered by MediaTek’s Helio P10 and Helio X20 processors.

The common way to record the heart rate of an individual is by feeling the pulse and this requires you to touch the individual. The team of two found out that you can also measure the heart rate by using a smartphone’s camera.

According to their findings, when the heart beats and pumps blood, your skin flushes slightly. Using the camera of a phone powered by a Helio P10 or Helio X20 processor, these slight changes in skin color can be recorded thanks to MediaTek’s visual processing technology. The recorded data is then translated with a visual processing app that provides the result (heart rate) in a few seconds.

Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6+ Certified By FCC: US Launch Confirmed

Samsung is preparing the launch of two new mid-rangers: Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus. While other devices from the A-series released in 2017 and 2018 are upgraded versions of the ones released last year, a smartphone called Galaxy A6 has been never launched until now. They will be two brand new smartphones with a good quality-price ratio, and they have just received the official certification by the American FCC. Unfortunately, FCC did not reveal any of their specs, but its certification confirms that the handsets will be launched in the U.S. market.

samsung galaxy a6

Previous rumors suggested that Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6+ were going to be launched only in Europe, Russia and the Middle East, but according to FCC, it will not be so. The devices are identified by the model numbers SM-A600FN and SM-A605G. No specs have surfaced, but these devices have already been certified by Wi-Fi Alliance and they have been spotted on the famous benchmarking platform Geekbench, so we already know some details about them. According to WFA, both the devices will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and the standard A6 will support Wi-Fi a/b/g/n standards, but it will not support Wi-Fi ac, even though its alleged SoC supports it.

From what Geekbench website has shown in its listings, Samsung Galaxy A6 will boast an octa-core Samsung Exynos 7870 SoC which is already present on several phones from the J-series and on the Galaxy A3 (2017). The SoC is composed of eight Cortex A53 CPUs and a Mali-T830 MP1 GPU, and it will be paired with 3 GB of RAM. This device has scored 723 points in single-core performances and 3605 points in multi-core. Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus is equipped with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset which can run at a max frequency of 2 GHz, and it is supported by 4 GB of RAM. However, the score is similar to the lower-end version: 739 points in single-core and 3469 points in multi-core.

Samsung Updates Always On Mode With Animated GIFs Support

The Always On mode has been improved once again. This mode is very useful on Samsung devices as it allows to check time, notifications, and other important info even when the display is turned off and the phone is on standby. And, obviously, it limits the energy consumption and the impact on the battery life. Samsung has just updated the Always On Display app by adding the support to GIFs.

samsung

Now, you can set animated GIFs to show up when you lock your phone and the display turns off. With this update, the Samsung AOD app jumps to the version 3.2.26.4. Once you have updated your app, you can set animated GIFs in the Always On mode by heading to the Gallery app. You just need to select the GIF that you want, tap on the overflow menu (…), then choose Set as Always On Display image.

The app will also give you the chance to trim the GIF in case it is too long. In order to minimize the impact on the battery life, the GIF will animate just once: right after you lock your phone by pressing the power key. Actually, the updated app with the new feature is compatible only with Galaxy S8 and S9 series (except S8 Active). You can download the APK by clicking here if you still haven’t received the update.

Samsung Galaxy J8 & J8 Plus (2018) Batteries Leaked

Samsung has already taken care of its 2018 flagship line with the launch of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The tech giant will likely now focus on its entry-level/mid-range category. Quite a number of Samsung mid-range models have made appearances on benchmark websites as well as leaks and one of them is the Galaxy J-series models. The Galaxy J8 and J8 Plus have over the past few weeks appeared on Geekbench. Now, a new leak has revealed the batteries of the duo showing the device is actually in the work and may be launched soon.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 is revealed to have a 3000mAh battery while the plus-sized J8 Plus will pack a 3,500mAh battery. The dimensions of the batteries look rather long which suggest that both devices might feature a full-screen 18:9 design but we are not so sure of that.

The Galaxy J8 is expected to feature an Exynos 7870 chip. The 14nm octa-core chip is clocked at 1.59GHz (1.6GHz) and paired with 3GB of RAM. The device is also running Android 8.0.0 Oreo. Huawei P20 Comes With An Option To Hide The Notch on The Display

The year 2018 is gradually ushering in a new full-screen design style and that is the one with a cut-out on the display. This is popularly known as display notch and already, as many as 23 models presently use the design. One of such models is the Huawei P20.huawei p20

From a technical point of view, the notch design seems to make it easier for manufacturers to extend the display to create a higher screen ratio with compromising the durability. It also allows for the camera sensor to remain at the top centre where the selfie shooter is preferred. Unfortunately, this design seems not to be popular with smartphone users as a lot of fans are kicking against the notch.  A recent OnePlus survey showed that a large number of the company’s fans indicated that they don’t want the notch on the OnePlus 6 flagship. OnePlus still intend using the design and so had to explain to the fans why they will have to make do with an OP6 with a display notch.Huawei P20

However, Huawei has shown itself once more to be the leading manufacturer it is. The company has revealed that apart from using a small notch on its P20 flagship, they also provided a way to turn off the notch display in the display settings option which then darkens the surrounding area. This is an impressive one but the effect will only be felt on the display. Aesthetically, the physical looks of the device will still feature the notch but on usage, the notch will disappear. This may be a better option for those that cant stand the notch but love the P20’s sleek design.

OnePlus CEO Confirms Presence of Notch on OnePlus 6, Explains Why

OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau is known for his vocal nature but the Chief exec was forced to delete his tweet a few days back which seem to have confirmed the OnePlus 6 display will have a notch. The CEO has now shared a post on the OnePlus forum which explains why the OP6 will need to have a cut out on top of the display.OnePlus 6

The first paragraph of the post states thus, “By now, most of you are aware that our next device will feature a cut-out near the top of the display, popularly known as a “notch”.  The CEO noted that a fiery debate had sparked online and so it was necessary to explain the rationale behind this product design decision.

The OnePlus CEO explains that one of the company’s biggest challenges as a smartphone manufacturer was to make the most out of every square inch of its device. And since the components on its smartphones no longer require the entire width of a top bezel, the company is making effort to maximize the amount of screen available. In effect, OnePlus feels the notch design offers more screen without compromising on hardware.

Pete Lau also added that the central placement is optimal for the front-facing camera since the angle of the camera isn’t affected. Moving the camera elsewhere would have made it harder to orient the camera and take photos quickly.  He also added that such a move would also compromise the speed and reliability of OnePlus’ industry-leading Face Unlock feature. Other options considered include a smaller module which would have reduced the quality and a pop-up design which is still in its infancy and holds no guarantee of durability and quality. To further placate angry fans, the CEO revealed the notch is just 19.616mm by 7.687mm and occupies a minimal amount of space in the top-center part of the display.
