Today, Nokia is holding a launch event in India where the company is expected to launch the Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco. Now, ahead of the launch of Nokia 6 (2018), the Nokia 6 3GB RAM model has received another price cut in India.

The smartphone was launched in India in June last year at a price of Rs. 14,999. Last month, the phone received Rs. 1,500 price cut, bringing down the phone’s price to Rs. 13,499. The Nokia 6 3GB RAM variant is now available for purchase at a reduced price of Rs. 12,999 (approx. $200) after another price cut of Rs. 500.

At this time, it is not yet clear if this price cut is for a limited time only or permanent. Earlier this year, HMD Global launched the Nokia 6 4GB RAM variant for Rs. 16,999 and its price remains unchanged.

The Nokia 6 features a 5.5-inch full-HD display with 1080 x 1920 pixels screen resolution and a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass protection. Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor.

While the Nokia 6 was launched with Android Nougat operating system out-of-the-box, it recently received Android Oreo update. The phone features a front-facing fingerprint sensor and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

China Cuts Taxes for Chipmakers In A Bid To Develop Its Chip Sector

By

-

Apr 4, 2018

Those who follow the happenings in the semiconductor industry closely are probably aware of the blockage of Broadcom’s takeover bid for Qualcomm by U.S president, Donald Trump. The move was likely aimed at protecting the indigenous American company from foreign competitors. A similar move may have played out with Huawei’s bid to enter the US market. But in a counter move, China is making effort to grow its local semiconductor market.

China has said that it plans to cut taxes for semiconductor makers and effect some reforms, so as to support the all-important industry. The new rules cover a good number of semiconductor companies. According to a statement from the Finance Ministry, the companies will be exempt from corporate income taxes for up to five years starting January 1, 2018. At the expiration of the 5 years of break, the companies’ tax rates will then be half of the current 25 percent till the 10th year.

These tax breaks are coming on the heel a recently announced tax cuts which would benefit high-end manufacturing and innovation-driven technology companies supported by the Made in China 2025 plan: a blueprint for the Asian nation to sharpen competitiveness in emerging industries from information technology to aerospace. These efforts are all geared towards growing its local chipset companies. China also shares the view that a reliance on imports could undermine national security and hampers the development of a thriving technology sector. Thus, China projects it could achieve a leading position in design and manufacturing by spending about $150 billion over 10 years. In all these, the biggest loser will be the US whose companies dominate the sector presently.

Google Home and Home Mini Launching In India On 10th April, Could Be Flipkart Exclusive

By

-

Apr 3, 2018

Last year, Amazon launched its range of smart speakers in India, including Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Plus. Now, Google is preparing to launch its own smart speakers in India — Google Home and Google Home Mini.

Earlier, we reported that Google is expected to launch its smart speakers in India this month, based on a communication shared by Redington India with its retail partners. Now, the company has sent out media invites for the launch event scheduled on 10th April.

In the latest development, the company has hinted that the devices will be available for purchase exclusively through India’s homegrown online marketplace Flipkart. Google has teased this through Twitter. In a tweet, the company said — “Listen to your favourite tracks without lifting a finger. Just #MakeGoogleDoIt, at home. Register on the Flipkart App to know more.”

Other reports suggest that Google has also added support for Indian-origin music streaming apps Gaana and Saavn, along with its default Google Play Music. Furthermore, the Google Assistant is also set to receive support for Indian English in the coming days. Recently, Hindi language support was rolled out to Google’s virtual assistant.

The Google Home smart speaker was first introduced by the search engine giant back in 2016 in the United States. With the help of the company’s own Google Assistant, the smart speaker can perform various actions like music playback, weather/ time information, setting alarms and reminders, answering queries, and making lists among others.

There is currently no information regarding the pricing and availability details of the speakers in India. We are speculating the Google Home to be priced around Rs. 9,999 (approximately $154) and the Home Mini to cost around Rs. 4,499, which roughly converts to $69.

Google’s competitor in this smart speakers market in India, Amazon Echo is priced at Rs. 9,999 and the Echo Dot and Echo Plus are priced at Rs. 4,499 and Rs 14,999 respectively.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro With Snapdragon 636 and Oppo F7 With Helio P60 Have Similar Performance According To Benchmarks

By

Michele Ingelido

-

Apr 3, 2018

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Oppo F7 have been compared on the main benchmarking platforms in order to check which one performs better. Before checking the results of the comparison, keep in mind that benchmarks are not meant to evaluate the overall performance of a smartphone. It just tests the hardware. So, do not take benchmarks as a religion and just consider them as a method to evaluate performance on the paper. The handsets have been tested on Geekbench, AnTuTu, 3D Mark and Basemark with very similar performances in most of the tests.

This comparison is very important, not only because they are among the most powerful mid-rangers in the smartphones market, but also because they contain two of the most important chipsets in the mobile market. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by the new octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC by Qualcomm, composed of 8x Kryo 260 CPUs running at a max frequency of 1.8 GHz and an Adreno 509 GPU. Oppo F7 has the octa-core Helio P60 composed of 4x Cortex A73 cores and 4x Cortex A53 cores running at a max frequency of 2 GHz and a Mali G72 MP3 GPU.

Even though it is not a flagship SoC, Helio P60 is the most important MediaTek chipset released this year, and it will impact a lot on the future of MediaTek in the mobile chipsets market. According to Geekbench, Oppo F7 has slightly better performances than Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, while according to AnTuTu the Redmi Note 5 Pro is way better than its opponent. 3D Mark Ice Storm Unlimited shows a better result for the Oppo F7, while Basemark shows a higher score for Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. In each case, we are talking about pretty good results which should guarantee a wonderful user experience, even though there are many other factors to consider to establish how the user experience will be in the long-term.

HTC U12 Plus Flagship Smartphone To Launch Next Month

By

-

Apr 3, 2018

HTC is working on its flagship smartphone, which is said to have been named HTC U12 Plus. Now, a new report coming from Taiwan cites insider sources close to HTC to suggest that the smartphone could be launched next month.

According to the reports, HTC deliberately postponed the launch of its flagship smartphone in order to avoid head-to-head competition from Samsung’s Galaxy S9 series or Sony’s Xperia XZ2 lineup. Further, it is said that the company is also going to spend significantly to advertise the upcoming smartphone.

The HTC U12 Plus is expected to be the only premium smartphone from the company to launch this year. This could be the company’s strategy to prolong the sales cycle.

Based on the previous leaks, the HTC U12 Plus will come with a 5.99-inch QHD+ display and will be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 processor, which is powering almost all flagship smartphones launched this year so far, including the Galaxy S9 series.

The smartphone will pack 6GB RAM and will offer up to 256GB of internal storage. In the camera department, it will come equipped with a 16-megapixel and 12-megapixel camera sensors at the back, and two 8-megapixel front-facing snappers.

Along with a fingerprint scanner, the device will also come with facial recognition feature for added security. Running on Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box, the smartphone will be fuelled by a 3,450mAh battery.

A couple of weeks ago, concept renders of the HTC U12 Plus surfaced online in three colors — Red, Black, and White, which were created by 3D artist ConceptCreator. The phone’s renders provided a clear look at the design of the upcoming smartphone and what to expect from it.

While the U12 Plus will be the only premium smartphone from HTC, the Taiwan-based company is planning to launch U12 Life, an affordable mid-range which is also expected to feature a notched display. Recently, HTC announced its two mid-range smartphones — Desire 12 and Desire 12+. However, the company has not yet revealed the phone’s pricing or availability details.

Apr 3, 2018

Samsung had released the Galaxy S5 mini in 2014 as a smaller edition of the Galaxy S5 phone. However, the South Korean company did not launch Galaxy S6 mini, Galaxy S7 mini or Galaxy S8 Mini in the recent years. On Friday, a well-known tipster from China had claimed that Samsung is testing the Galaxy S9 mini phone in China. He had also revealed that the model number of the S9 mini is SM-G8750. Now the same model number has been spotted on Geekbench, it seems that the S9 Mini truly exists. The Geekbench listing has revealed some of the key specs of the phone.3

The Geekbench listing of SM-G8750 reveals that it is preinstalled with Android 8.0 Oreo. The Galaxy S9 mini could be the first smartphone from the South Korean company to feature the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform. The SoC is coupled by 4 GB of RAM. In single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the Galaxy S9 mini has respectively scored 1619 and 5955 points.

There is no information available on the other specifications of the Galaxy S9 mini. However, it is speculated to arrive with Infinity Display design like the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.Its display could be sized between 5-inch and 5.5-inch and it may carry support for 18.5:9 aspect ratio like the Galaxy S9 duo. Also, it is unlikely to feature dual camera setup like the S9+.

Currently, there is no information available on the launch date of the Galaxy S9 mini. Since the South Korean company is testing the S9 mini in China, it may arrive with a cheaper price tag to take on the leading smartphones in the mid-range bracket.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s Available Units Sold out in Minutes in First Flash Sale

By

-

Updated Apr 5, 2018

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S was officially launched on March 27, 2018 but the device went up for sale in China for the first time today (April 3). The Mi Mix 2s was available exclusively on Mi Store and from the sales records, all units in stock were sold out in just a few minutes. Presently, all variants of the Mi Mix 2s are out of stock and the next flash sale will take place on Friday, April 6 at 10 AM UTC+8.

The number of units made available isn’t usually disclosed but Xiaomi has made tremendous improvements on its available stock in recent times. So we expect a considerable amount of units were put up for sale. Thus, the exhaustion of stock could be linked to the high level of interests the flagship device commands.

The Mi Mix 2s is Xiaomi’s first smartphone to pack the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. It also has a dual-camera setup at the back, where one of the snappers has large 1.4ɥm pixels and bright f/1.8 aperture, while the secondary shooter has a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. The device runs MIUI 9.5 based on Android Oreo 8.0 and has Qi wireless charging support – a first on a ceramic device. The Mix 2s prices start from 3,299 Yuan (€426/$530) for the 6/64GB variant and go as high as 3,999 Yuan (€516/$636) for the 8/256 GB model. All units come with a free Qi wireless charger valued at around $15.

Xiaomi Mi 7: Top 5 Exciting Features to Watch Out For

By

Anvinraj Valiyathara

-

Apr 3, 2018

Recent reports have claimed that the Snapdragon 845 chipset powered Xiaomi Mi 7 may debut in June. Plenty of details of the Mi 7 have appeared through its leaked firmware files and other sources in the recent weeks. The Xiaomi Mi 7 will possibly be a real breakthrough smartphone from Xiaomi as it is likely to come equipped with features like OLED display, 3D facial scanning, wireless charging and more. Here is a low down on the some of the exciting features to watch out on the Xiaomi Mi 7:

OLED Display

Through multiple leaks it has been known that the Xiaomi Mi 7 may feature an OLED display supplied by Samsung. The Mi 7 firmware files have revealed that its display will be enabled with a notch and it will carry support for Always-On Display feature. The recently launched Mi MIX 2S features an LCD panel that offers an 18:9 aspect ratio. However, the notch enabled Mi 7 may offer 19:9 aspect ratio.

Under-Display Fingerprint Scanner

Speculations are rife that Xiaomi will be launching the Mi 7 Plus smartphone alongside the Mi 7. The firmware files of the alleged Mi 7 Plus have revealed that it may come with features like an OLED display, Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4,000mAh battery and under-display fingerprint scanner. However, there is no evidence on whether the Mi 7 will feature an under-display fingerprint scanner.

3D Facial Recognition

The firmware files of the Mi 7 had also unearthed that its notch could be housing Infrared Camera sensor. This suggests that the Mi 7 may arrive with 3D facial scanning feature. It could be as robust as Face ID 3D facial recognition function present on iPhone X.

If the Mi 7 will arrive with 3D face reader, it may not need to feature an under-display or a regular fingerprint scanner. A leaked image showing the rear view of the alleged Mi 7 that had appeared in the previous month reveals that it does not feature a fingerprint scanner.

Dual Rear Cameras

Like the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S, the Mi 7 is speculated to arrive with vertically aligned dual camera system. As of this writing, there is no information on the exact configuration of the dual rear cameras of Mi 7. However, it is likely to borrow AI capabilities of Mi MIX 2S for better low-light photography, bokeh effect shots and scene detection.

Xiao AI Voice Assistant

The Mi MIX 2S is the first smartphone from the company to feature the AI assistant named Xiao AI. At present, Xiao AI is only available in China. Now that the Xiaomi’s digital assistant has been introduced, the Mi 7 is for sure going to feature it. However, there is no confirmation on whether it will carry support for English and other languages.

Here is an official video that shows how efficient the Xiaomi’s voice assistant is.

Wireless Charging

The Xiaomi Mi 7 is expected to house a 3,400mAh battery. A recent report had revealed that it may support 7.5W wireless charging like the iPhone X.

Such features of the Mi 7 indicate that it will be an ultimate flagship phone from the company. Would you be buying the Mi MIX 2S or waiting for the launch of Mi 7? Share us your views by posting your comments below.

The video has since been pulled down but that wasn’t before it was scooped up by eagle-eyed fans.

The leaked video seems to tease the new Avengers: Infinity Wars sequel that would be released in theatres worldwide on April 27 which is a couple of weeks away. However, the video also contains OnePlus’ logo which seems to flicker alongside that of Marvel Studios. The thing is that OnePlus is yet to reveal when the OnePlus 6 will be launched and isn’t likely that the Avengers customized version will be launched before the ordinary version. So, it is likely that the video only teases the coming of a customised OnePlus 6 Avengers edition in the near future.

OnePlus is no stranger to releasing a customised version of its flagship. Last year, the company launched the OnePlus 5T Star Wars edition and India was the first port of call. So, since the leaked video first appeared on OnePlus India’s Facebook page as reported, there is a strong likelihood that the customised edition may be launched first in India too.

According to earlier leaked details, the OP6 is expected to feature a 6.28-inch display with a cut-out (notch ) on top of the display similar to the iPhone X. The device will also have a resolution of 2280 x 1080p and adopt a 19:9 aspect ratio. The flagship model will pack a Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. It was recently confirmed officially that there is also going to be a version with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. There will also be a 3450mAh battery onboard. On the camera aspect, the OnePlus 6 is said to feature a 20MP camera at the front while at the rear, there will be a 20MP + 16MP dual camera setup.
