ZTE Announced Two iPhone clones:ZTE blade S6 and ZTE blade S6 Lux

It seems to be kind of a trend right now not to invest in a different design, but choose the one, which has a lot of success in the market. Does not how shameless it may sound, but many companies do that. We all know, that there are a lot of cheap iPhone 6 clones in China and probably not all of them are worth your attention. However, it seems that even major manufacturers following the same strategy and produce iPhone 6 clones or very similar (or inspired by..?) devices.

1-150205155301224

ZTE, one of the major manufacturers in the world, just announced their two new products – the ZTE blade S6 and the little better specced ZTE blade S6 Lux. Both devices are not exact clones of the iPhone, but are quite similar in looks and choice of materials used. First of, they both rounded aluminium shape. Also, there is a 2.5D glass (it seems that Apple re-made it popular and other manufacturers follow) on the front. Also, there is a front facing shooter (5mp), speaker grill and the home button, which lights up in blue colour (it can also flash as a notification light). Both devices spot a 7.9mm and 7.7mm thinness, respectively.

What is more, it seems that both devices have a great photography equipment, which include a 13mp Sony IMX214 sensor and there is a professional camera mode besides a regular auto mode. What is more, the 5mp shooter on the front is a 85 degree angle snapper. So as far as design and picture taking abilities are concerned, both devices are quite similar, but what does it make them different?

First of all, we have to mention that both devices have a dual 4G connectivity (FDD and TD-LTE) and a dual SIM dual standby functionality. However, this is being achieved using different processing packages. The ZTE blade S6 is equipped with a Snapdragon 410 Quad-core chip whereas ZTE blade S6 Lux has a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 2Gb of RAM and 16G of storage.

Both devices spot a 5.5 inch displays, but the ZTE blade s6 Lux has a 1080p JDI panel as opposed to a 720p panel found on the regular blade S6. The official poster by the company also shows that the S6 Lux has a 3000 mA large battery. It does not say anything about the blade S6’s battery, but it is said to be smaller. What is more, both devices will spot Android MiFavor UI 3.0, which is ZTE’s version of Android.

So far, there is no more information available regarding full specs, the official sales time and the area where it will be sold (besides China, of course). What we know, however, is that the device will have a competitive price point, which will be 1699 Yuan for ZTE blade S6 and 1999 Yuan for ZTE blade S6 Lux.

After seeing one more product, which is very similar to the iPhone, one question comes to our minds if it is good for major manufacturers to take so much “inspiration” from Apple and its iPhone 6.

Mediatek Cortex A72 powered processor coming in 2015?

mediatek-cortex a7

Just a few hours back, we reported that Qualcomm may be planning to use the newly announced powerful Cortex A72 processor cores in its 600 series processor. Now new reports have come up online which states that the chipmaker’s direct competitor, Mediatek will also unveil a Cortex A72 powered SoC in the market soon.

The report states that this Chinese chipmaker will use this super powerful A72 cores inside its next SoC which will be based on a 16nm process. Yes, it is said that Mediatek Cortex A72 powered processor will be one of the first chip companies to release a processor based on this high end process.

Cortex A72 is the best processor core from ARM till date. Its both powerful and efficient which increases the performance of mobile handsets to the level of desktop performance. The chip is based on a 16-nanometer chipmaking process, and outputs 30 percent more memory performance and an 80 percent speedier graphics (thanks to the new Mali-T880 GPU). Its in fact 3.5 times more powerful than the predecessor, A15 core. With its powerful specs, the chip can support 4K videos at even 120 fps. It can use ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, which improves battery efficiency and will even bring Google now style voice commands feature inbuilt into the chip.

Overall, expect the performance of this chip to be much better than existing generations. We still don’t know what will be the name of the Mediatek processor with this new core, but expect it to be in the high end series (probably MT67XX). Stay tuned for more updates.

Rumors: Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 and 618 to use Cortex A72 cores

cortex-a72

Just yesterday, ARM announced the most powerful processor core for smartphones and tablets till date, the Cortex A72. This particular Cortex core will be replacing the current cores for the high end market, i.e. the Cortex A57. However, the announcement failed to mention any details about the upcoming processors from Samsung or even Qualcomm.

Luckily, we didn’t have to wait too long to get more details about Qualcomm’s upcoming processors that will use this high end core. According to the latest industry sources, Qualcomm has at least two SoCs that will be using the Cortex A72 core. This two SoCs will be surprising from the 600 series Snapdragon processors. A recent image leaked online showed off the details of these two SoCs along with the architecture used by them.

qualcomm-snapdragon-620-618-cortex-a72

In the image, the MSM8976 which is probably the Snapdragon 620, comes with an eight core architecture. The image reveals that the SoC will have four Maia cores clocked at 1.8Ghz and four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.2Ghz. Now we know that Maia is the code name for the new Cortex A72 cores, so this particular SoC will have four such powerful cores.

Coming to the MSM8956 which is probably the Snapdragon 618, it comes with two Cortex A72 cores and four Cortex A53 cores. Since, this is an hexa-core processor, it will be slightly slower than the Snapdragon 820 but expect it to be more power efficient.

Given that the upper mid-range processors are coming with this high-end core, it would be interesting to see what Qualcomm packs into its top end SoCs like the upcoming Snapdragon 815 or the 820. Logically, they should be much more powerful than the 600 series processors.

Anyways, Qualcomm is yet to confirm this news, so make sure you take this leak with a pinch of salt.

Stay tuned for more updates.

100,000 Meizu M1s sold out in just 1 min

About two weeks back, Meizu unveiled its latest budget smartphone, the Meizu M1 to take on the best selling Xiaomi Redmi 2. The company made sure that its device was better than Xiaomi’s phone in almost every aspect at the exact same price tag. So, we expected tremendous response when the Meizu M1 went for sale earlier today.

Meizu-M1_sold out11

Today, at exactly 10:00 am Meizu’s new device was available for purchase. And unsurprisingly, by 10:01, the device was sold out. Yes, those who tried to purchase the device 1 minute into the sale, came out disappointed. This kind of response for a phone with good specifications is not at all surprising. We have already seen Xiaomi’s affordable devices getting sold out within minutes and now, it seems Meizu too is enjoying that kind of popularity.

A few minutes into the sale, Meizu confirmed that the device was sold out in a minute. The company even claims that all the 100,000 orders are legitimate as it is said that the company used an anti-fraud filter to make sure that there orders were real. However, Meizu did not explain how this filter worked.

To recap, the Meizu M1 comes with the new MT6732 64-bit 1.5Ghz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB of expandable ROM. There’s is a 5-inch screen on the front with 1280 x 768 resolution and gorilla glass 3 protection. There’s 13MP+8MP dual cameras on the device with single LED flash at the back. The company recently reduced the battery capacity from 2610mAh to 2500mAh. Finally, the device will support 4G LTE networks, which makes it a very attractive package for its 699 Yuan i.e. $112 price tag.

Are you surprised with this kind of response for the 699 Yuan Meizu M1?

iMacwear M7 Review – The Smartwatch That Has a Lot

The smartwatch industry is becoming more and more popular nowadays. We see that a lot of major manufacturers including Apple itself are stepping up into the game. Also, the Google tries to take care with the Android Wear UI for the smartwatches. Smartwatches are still quite new and to some consumers unusual type of electronics. It may be because a lot of people think that they won’t be useful… However, others even believe that they can replace your smartphone. Who is right?

Well, it is up to you to decide, but we strongly believe that the smart watch industry is growing up at the high pace. This time we wanted to share with you our review of the iMacWear M7 smartwatch.

In this article we will give you just a short glimpse at what we have prepared in our full video review, where we cover most of the things in detail. The video can be watched here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQR6lQR1EbM

Specs

Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.45.35 Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.45.51

From the specs sheet we can see that the device is a pretty good offering. One of the main highlights include the ability to act as a standalone device (make and receive calls, browse the internet etc). Also, we loved the fact that it has a GPS, Bluetooth receivers. Also, the fact that it has an IP76 waterproof rating is quite impressive. What is more, the Micro SD card slot up to 32 GB sounds really good if you consider the size of the device.

Unboxing

Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.35.02

The box was wrapped nicely in plastic, so we needed to take it off to open up the box. We forgot to tell you that the box itself looks and feels quite premium, so you may not want to throw it out immediately.

Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.35.42

In the pictures you can see  the smart watch itself. It is in black colour. The Imacwear M7 also comes in silver color. In case you want to check it out, there is a link in the description below of the video review or below this article. Let’s put the device aside for now and check out what else we have in the box.

Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.36.09

Here are the instruction manuals, but we are not going to read them as we will explain everything in our video and written review.

Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.36.31

Here you can see the charging dock, which is made of black matte plastic. Basically, it is used to charge the smart watch. Since the iMacwear M7 is waterproof, we can understand the reasoning behind ditching a regular Micro USB charging port.

Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.36.47

Also, there is a mini screwdriver, which will be needed to open up the sim tray as well as the battery and the micro sd card cover. Finally, there is a Micro USB cable to connect it to the charging dock of the device.
Design
The iMacwear M7 comes in two colour options: black and silver. We have a black version as our review unit.

The very first impressions are that the smart watch has a very good built quality and feels good in the hand. It is made out of metal and does not look cheap.Overall, the size of the device is pretty good and it should not look over-sized on the hand. Moreover, the button and the camera placement seems to be right, but we will check it out later.

The touchscreen display has the size of 1.54 Inches. It has a resolution of 240 x 240 pixels. Also, it supports 2 point multi-touch functionality. On the right side of the device there is a power on/off button, the 5mp camera in the middle and a home button. We found a button placement pretty comfortable. Also, the camera lets you take some secret photos or videos right from your wrist. Just make sure you won’t get noticed if you do that.

Overall, the rubber material of band is flexible and seems to be durable.

Functionality

Screenshot 2015-02-04 15.59.33

As you know, the device acts as a standalone smartphone device, because it accepts micro SIM cards. During the video filming of the review I received a call quite unexpectedly, but I thought I can give an idea you how it looks. Well, first of all you can talk directly to the smart watch and look like a special agent. You can speak either via built-in speaker or use the bluetooth headphones. I didn’t expect much, but surprisingly, the sound quality was very good for both the person i was speaking to and myself.

Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.38.32 Screenshot 2015-02-03 23.38.50

If we continue with other functionality, let us show how the browsing experience looks like. First of, it is very smooth and responsive.

However, the small size of the screen has its own shortcomings. That’s why I needed to use the stylus to enter the name of the website. Well, you can type it in using fingers, but it may be a bit annoying trying to hit the right button.

In the end, it is a great functionality if you need to read something on the go and don’t want to bring your smartphone with you. Moreover, you may surprise someone by reading the latest news right from your wrist.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.07.54

Also, there is a search app, which lets you search for all the files that are stored in your device. And if i want to go back I just swipe from right to left, which is pretty neat.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.08.11

If we come back to a dialer app, it is pretty straightforward Android experience. You can dial use the keypad or access your recent dialled or missed calls.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.08.39

Furthermore, the device has a gallery app, which has a minimalistic look and it is simple to use. Here is the camera roll, which includes pictures I took and videos I shot using the smart watch.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.09.03

The device supports messaging if you use it with a SIM card. However, it is not really comfortable to type since the screen is very small. Anyway, calling from a smartwach is way more cool than typing a message.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.09.19

Let’s take a look at the settings menu.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.09.52 Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.10.06

As you can see, you can easily customise the look of the watch face. You can choose from a variety of both analog and digital watch faces, which is pretty cool. There is a list of preinstalled watch faces at the moment, but we hope that more of them will come in the future with a software update. Anyway, there is plenty to choose from (we cover them all in the video).

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.10.28 Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.10.47

The smart watch comes with 4 GB of internal storage, which is however, split up into a couple of partitions. However, the small amount of storage is not an issue at all since it comes with Micro SD card slot up to 32 gigs. In the end, I’m not even sure why you would need so much storage to carry on your wrist, but it is better to have it than not.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.12.02

The iMacwear M7 comes with 512 MB of Ram preinstalled, which does not sound very impressive on paper, but is enough to ensure a smooth experience as we did not have any lags or other issues during our review period.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.12.27

The smart watch comes in with all kinds of languages preinstalled, so international buyers don’t need to worry about that.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.12.50

Let’s go to the system settings. One of the great functions include the scheduled turn on and off of the device, which should help you save the battery.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.13.25

The device may not be running the latest Android version, but still, it is very smooth and responsive.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.16.32

One more great feature worth mentioning is preinstalled Google Maps application. Since there is a GPS receiver installed in the device you can easily navigate through the streets as you would do with any other device. During our testing we found that the GPS lock speed is not as fast as on the smartphone, but still very good. Also, the accuracy and the whole functionality was great.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.17.07

Another great feature is that the smart watch comes with google play services preinstalled, so you can basically download any app you want.

For more information on functionality and other great things about the iMacwear M7 smart watch, please check out our video review.

Media and Entertainment

Music on the Smartwatch!

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.14.21

The idea of listening to music from your wrist sounds quite unusual, but at the same time pretty cool. you can check out a sample of audio quality in our video review.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.16.06

Another pretty cool function is that you can watch the youtube on your wrist.

Camera

The iMacwear M7 has a 5mp shooter, which is located on the right side of the device. It lets you take the pictures or shoot the videos right from your wrist.

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.17.42 Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.17.28

When it comes to the camera app, it has a pretty simple user interface and it is very easy to use. There are some pretty basic settings. You can set the exposure, scene mode, white balance and adjust other stuff. Anyway, I think that the majority of users would trust the auto mode to capture images fro their wrist.

What is more, it captures images very fast as well as shoots videos. If you want to take a picture or shoot a video you have to naturally hold the watch on your wrist and the software does the rest.

Picture Quality

We took some camera samples. First, let’s take a look at the pictures taken inside in mostly artificial lightning. The pictures come in 5mp in size, which is good for a smart watch. The picture quality, however, is far from the one seen on today’s smartphones. Color reproduction is a hit or miss, also there is quite a lot of noise in each picture.

Naturally, once we took the device for a spin outside, the picture quality is much better. The colour reproduction was quite natural and there was much less noise.
Also, the white balance seemed to be pretty good. Furthermore, the detail level is much better since the sensor captures more light. Again, these pictures are not on par with the smartphones’ cameras, but good for a smart watch.

If you want to check out the video recording sample, please watch our full video review.

Battery Life

Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.11.07 Screenshot 2015-02-04 16.11.24

As far as the battery goes, it depends on what you do with the device. Still, with moderate usage the smartwatch can take you through the day quite easily. With easy usage, you can be sure that the battery will stay alive even for a few days, which is quite impressive considering the size of the device and the functionality it offers.

Conclusions

Overall, we liked the whole experience with the smart watch. We loved a great design and built quality, and the comfort on the hand. After extensive periods of use the wrist feels a bit sweaty, but nothing out of ordinary considering the rubber material of the band. What is more, we liked a very good performance as we did not encounter with any lags during our testing period.

Also, the whole idea of the smart watch to replace your smartphone as it can accept the micro SIM card and lets you make, receive calls or text to other people is really amazing.
It just lets this smart watch stand out from the crowd and Android wear devices offered by major manufacturers.

In addition, you can stay connected with the 3G connectivity, check your emails, Facebook or do any other similar stuff. Moreover, we loved the GPS and Bluetooth connectivity options, which worked without any issues. Also, the music player functionality along with quality speaker, which is on par with most of the smartphones’ speakers makes it even better device. In addition, we loved the fact that the device has a camera, which lets you either take the pictures or shoot videos right from your wrist. Finally, a great battery, which also can be replaced along with the Micro SD card slot is a great advantage.

On the other hand, the picture and video quality could be a bit better. Also, we think that the additional front facing camera could make this device even better…. if it is not too much to ask, of course. We think that it could come handy for video calls, though (or selfies?).

Also, we found that after restarting the device or after the battery dies, the time resets automatically for no reason. What is more, the reception of 3G signal is bit worse (but still acceptable) than on the smartphone, but this may be due to the much smaller antenna of the smart watch. On the other hand, we think that these bugs can be fixed with a future software update, which can be received OTA (over the air).

All in all, we think that a few shortcomings are far from a deal breaker. We believe that the Imacwear M7 smart watch is a great buy, especially considering a low price point if you compare it to the rivals from the major manufacturers. Also, we are still in quite an adventure and feel like special agents making or receiving calls directly from your wrist.

Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini is now the world’s thinnest smartphone with a 4.7mm body!

Last year, OPPO released its super thin OPPO R5 smartphone which was less than 5mm thin. Later came an even thinner phone, the Vivo X5Max this time from another Chinese manufacturer which boasted of a 4.8mm thin profile.

ivvi-k1-mini-14

A few weeks ago, Coolpad’s Ivvi had released a teaser hinting at the launch of a phone which could possibly be the world’s thinnest smartphone yet. And now, the company has finally unveiled such a device, the all new Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini which boasts of a thickness of just 4.7mm.

Unlike the above mentioned two devices which feature top of the line high end specs, the Ivvi K1 Mini will be a lower mid-range smartphone with decent specs. The company has put in a BABY Skin back texture on the device which does not attract fingerprints.

ivvi-k1-mini-3

For hardware, the Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini comes with a Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM which is probably expandable. The phone will feature a 4.7-inch display which we expect will have a resolution of 720p. At the back, there will be an 8MP camera, while up front there is a 5MP shooter. The company says that the phone will come with a lot of camera centric features like beauty shots and intelligent algorithms to capture the best possible image. Despite its low placement, the phone will come with 4G LTE network support. Given its super thin profile, the phone can only accommodate a 1800mAh battery inside. Also, the Ivvi K1 Mini has an intelligent remote control feature which allows the user to control almost anything at home including air conditioners, washing machines, televisions and many more appliances.

ivvi-k1-mini-2

The Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini will be available for sale in just white color at the moment for a price tag of 1299 Yuan which comes to around $200. The company has added that there will be more colors to choose from in the next few weeks.

Teclast Core M super tablet hybrid will feature insane specs

telcast-core-m-supertablet

Teclast had recently held a DIY contest wherein fans were asked to create a super tablet with the combination of the most powerful specs. The contest ended on January 31st and now the company has released the specifications of the winning powerful tablet hybrid.

According to the company, it will develop this prototype tablet with insane configurations for market use. This Teclast Core M powered tablet is said to come with the latest Core M 5y10c processor based on the 14nm process and clocked at the highest 2GHz frequency. Further, the tablet features Integrated HD graphics 5300 which delivers performance at par with desktop computers. Further inside, there will be 4GB of RAM and 128GB of ultra fast SSD. The tablet hybrid will be quite large too, as it will sport a 12.2-inch IPS display with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. There will be a 11000 mAh battery onboard too. The Telcast Core M tablet will support Wi-Fi as well as 4G LTE networks.

Despite all these powerful specs, the Teclast Core M will be decently sized. It will measure about 9.1mm and is expected to come in a number of colors and designs. Of course, the convertible tablet won’t be cheap and it is said that the device will cost about 3155 Yuan which comes to around $500.

So, if such a tablet is released in the market, would you purchase it for the $500 price tag?

Dakele 3X is a toned down China mobile edition of the popular iPhone clone

dakele 3x 11

Back in December, we saw Dakele 3, a powerful iPhone clone at a very affordable price tag. The device was probably the best iPhone 6 clone in the market. However, not everyone is willing to spend over $240 (1499 Yuan) for a device which is basically a clone. So, it looks like Dakele has another device for the masses, this time a slightly lower version of the powerful Dakele 3 called as the new Dakele 3X. The phone will be the China mobile edition of the Dakele 3 and will feature less powerful specs and a much more affordable price tag to lure in customers.

The new Dakele 3X will come with the same sapphire glass protection as its powerful brother. It will also have the same 5-inch display with 1280 x 720p resolution. According to official data, the device will have a less powerful processor as the Dakele 3. The processor inside this model is clocked at 1.3Ghz which could be Mediatek’s MT6582 or MT6290 quad-core processors. The phone will have 1GB RAM onboard along with 16GB eMMC memory. The rear 13MP camera will be of Sony make and the front camera will be of 5MP. The phone is said to support China Mobile 4G / 3G / 2G networks, and China Unicom 2G networks and will be Dual SIM compatible.

Thankfully, the company has kept the same metal design as the original Dakele 3. So, you have the same aerospace grade aluminum alloy on the phone with a solid titanium frame. This should make the overall phone quite sturdy especially with the sapphire glass on the front.

Like the elder brother, the Dakele 3X will feature the company’s own kele UI which comes with intelligent application sorting option. Further, the company adds that users can also install other third party ROMs like MIUI, Color OS and Lewa OS with ease.

Dakele has not yet announced an official pricing of the device, but expect it to be much cheaper than the 1499 ($240) price tag of the Dakele 3.

Stay tuned for more updates. Meanwhile, check out more images from the gallery below.

First look at OnePlus’s OxygenOS reveals a flat and colorful UI

6b1394a6jw1eow2ybjnlaj21ay27dh69

Just a few days back, we reported that OnePlus was planning to unveil its own OS. In this regard, it was even said that the company hired the whole IUNI OS team in December.

The company unveiled the name of the new ROM recently and it will be called as the OnePlus OxygenOS. While we are eagerly waiting to see what the company has in store for us on February 12, i.e. the date when the ROM will be unveiled, we have received a new leak which shows off some of the design elements of the new OxygenOS.

From the pictures, it looks like the company will focus on a flat UI design. The icons are flat and use simple shapes with a lot of different colors. The icons are all categorized according to their use, so you have a section of gaming apps, tools, and one for even social media.

Apart from the app drawer, we can see the OxygenOS weather app. Once again, the app interface looks clean with generous use of colors. Unfortunately, there’s not much information displayed in the app, but this probably isn’t the final version.

Anyways, the overall OxygenOS looks quite different than the Cyanogenmod ROM that was earlier used by the company’s OnePlus One flagship phone.

We expect to hear more information in the coming days, both officially and unofficially.

So, stay tuned for more updates.

Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro flagship images and specs leaked

vibe-z3-pro-1

We already know that HTC has a flagship in store for us at MWC 2015. Even Samsung is rumored to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S6, which could come with dual edge display at the event. Now, the latest report from Weibo tells us that Lenovo will have something for its fans at the event. The device at MWC could be the Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro, which will succeed the 6-inch Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro phablet.

We also have some alleged pictures of the upcoming device along with most of its tech specs.

According to the leak, the phone will feature a solid metal frame. It looks like the company has reduced its size from the massive 6-inches to somewhere around 5.5-inches. The front is fully black, so we can’t really see the bezels or the area below the display which usually has the capacitive buttons. Coming to the back, there is a strip which looks like metal going over one side of the phone. The camera is located on the strip. From the images, it looks like Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro may feature a glass back, but we can’t be sure of that right now.

Coming to the specs, the phone is said to come with the latest 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor along with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. The front will feature a 5.5-inch 2K display. At the back, there will be a 16MP camera with OIS, Lazer Autofocus technology, and three LED flash. Interestingly, there will be a dedicated camera button too. Also, the speakers are located at the bottom, which is a better place than the rear speakers on most smartphones. The source also reveals that there will be mute control keys on the device. Inside, the phone will feature a 3400mAh battery which will be non-removable. Finally, like most flagship phones to be released later this year, the Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro will come Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

It looks like Lenovo may have taken some design inspiration from Sony for this upcoming flagship. But, from what we have seen till now, the device does look good.

We don’t have to wait too long to get official details as the source says that the company will announce the device at MWC 2015.

So, what do you think about this new device? Looks good?

Huawei to focus on the high-end market in 2015

The competition in the low-end market is fierce. There are plenty of alternatives, all offering similar specs with a similar price tag. In the fight for low end market share, companies have to often operate on very low margins which affects their profitability. So, it won’t be surprising if some companies move away from this extremely competitive segment.

Huawei-Ascend-Mate-7-1

It looks like Huawei is going to focus on the high-end market this year as the company vice president Shao Yang recently said that Huawei aims to sell 100 million smartphones in 2015, up from 75 million shipped last year. He also added in a conference call that that the company’s high end lineup such as the Honor 6 and the Huawei P7 smartphone sales increased from 18% to 30% last year.

As a result, the company is not going to release low end smartphones in the market from now on. This is also to avoid the fierce competition in the market led by manufacturers like Xiaomi and Meizu. So, instead of competing in the low end segment, Huawei plans to release more $300+ smartphones in the market.

The company CEO Yu Chengdong said that not many smartphone manufacturers are doing well in the market except for ones like Samsung and Apple. Also, an IDC analysts recently said that Huawei has managed to make a mark in the mid-range segment thanks to value for money phones like the Honor 6 Plus. So, it makes sense why the company is going for the high end segment.

CEO Yu Chengdong also said that the company plans to grow organically rather than through acquisitions in the short term. But he did not entirely rule out a possibility of acquiring a competitor in the long run.

So, what do you think? Is it smart for Huawei to focus on the high end market?

ZTE Q7 could be announced on February 5

zte-q7-11

A few days back we saw the ZTE Blade S6 which comes an iPhone like design at an affordable price tag. Today, new reports indicate that the Chinese giant is all set to announce the domestic version of this device rebranded as the ZTE Q7 on February 5 2015.

According to officials there will be some changes in this new phone. First of all, the camera will be much better than the ZTE Blade S6. The said phone will come with a 13MP Sony camera which can take pictures up to 36MP in size. There will be a lot of camera specific features too. Secondly, the ZTE Q7 will unfortunately come with an older version of Android, i.e. Android 4.4 KitKat instead of the Android 5.0 Lollipop that comes with the international edition ZTE Blade S6. Other features are expected to be more or less the same on both the devices.

This is not the first time we are hearing about ZTE Q7. About two months back, the same device had passed TENAA which revealed most of the specs of the device. The ZTE Q7 is expected to come with the same Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor as the S6 along with 2GB and 16GB internal storage. The earlier leak  said that the phone will support all major connectivity options like TD-LTE, LTE-FDD, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, and GSM.

The pricing of the international ZTE Blade S6 was $250, however we are not quite sure whether the domestic pricing will be around the same figure. Anyways, we are just three days away from the official unveiling, so lets wait for more details.

Could this phone on Geekbench be Huawei P8 with Kirin 930?

Huawei’s upcoming Huawei P8 flagship was recently leaked with most of its specs on weibo. The source said that the company would incorporate the latest Kirin 930 processor based on a  16nm process, which will be the first such SoC in the market.

Just a day after this leak, we have spotted a new Huawei device on Geekbench browser benchmark which reveals quite capable hardware. The device has a model number ML100-UL00 and could be the Huawei P8.

huawei device on geekbench

The benchmark reveals an octa-core 1.5Ghz processor based on the 64-bit architecture. The phone comes with 3GB of RAM onboard and runs on the latest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system.

We still don’t know whether this is the new Kirin 930 processor. The benchmark scores of this new device is much higher than the existing Kirin 620, so it can’t be from this range. On the other hand, the performance is quite close to Kirin 925 that’s currently powering the Huawei Ascend Mate 7. The single core score of the 925 (899 points) is slightly better than the SoC used in this device (875), however the multi-core score on this device (3541 points) is much better than Mate 7.

Huawei P8 is said to come with a dual glass body (front+back) with a zirconia ceramic unibody design. It will be around 6mm thin and will feature a 2600 mAh battery.

We still don’t know whether this is the new Kirin 930 based on the 16mm process, but we expect more details soon as rumors say Huawei will announce the flagship on 15 April in London this year.

Rumors: Xiaomi Drones in the making?

dji-phantom

Xiaomi has been investing and developing a lot of new products recently. We have seen the Xiaomi Air purifier, TV box and even a game controller in the past few weeks alone. Now, a new report has cropped up online which says that the company is all set to enter into a new venture, Xiaomi DRONES.

Yes, the latest rumors indicate that the company is investing an undisclosed amount in a new UAV team which will be called as Flymi. This is not a subsidiary of the company, but the company will receive profits for the first product that Flymi will launch in the market. However, after that it is said that Xiaomi will only get the stock in the drone company.

The very first prototype released by the new Flymi team was said to be too similar to DJI’s Phantom drone. As a result, they could not release it in the market. Now the company is said to be developing a brand new drone in the market. It is still not known when this drone will be available for sale, but we hope its before the end of this year.

Xiaomi has not yet officially announced anything about this investment, so we can’t confirm it right now. But if this is indeed true, it won’t be long before the company reveals some details.

So what do you think about this investment? Do you feel Xiaomi drones is a good idea?

Huawei C199S metal smartphone announced, comes in Gold color too

QQ图片20150202191957

Huawei is no stranger to metal smartphones as we have already seen the beautiful Huawei Ascend P7 as well as the large screen phablet, Huawei Ascend Mate 7.

However, both of them are flagship devices and not many want or are willing spend more than $400 on a smartphone. So, last year we saw Huawei announce a device called as the Huawei C199 metal smartphone aimed at the Chinese market. While the name isn’t pretty, the device boasted of a metal back as well as decent specifications for around $320.

Now, the company has announced the upgraded version of this smartphone in China, called as the Huawei C199S. The device retains the metal back design from its predecessor but upgrades on some of the features to make it a slightly more attractive offering.

huawei c199s 2

Huawei C199S comes with the same 7.6mm thin profile with a metal back along with a 5.5-inch 720p display. However, the differentiating feature of this device is the new color option. We have seen that gold is often preferred by customers these days and seeing this demand, Huawei C199S comes in a gold color option as well.

The tech specs are more or less the same, except for the processor which got a much needed upgrade. The previous C199 model came with a Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, however this new model features a more powerful 1.5Ghz 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 (MSM8928) SoC. This should definitely improve the overall performance of the device.

Like mentioned above the others specs remain the same. So, you get a 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM onboard, along with a 3000 mAh capacity battery. There is a 13MP camera at the back while a 5MP shooter lies on the front. The device runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS along with the company’s own Emotion EMUI 3.0 skin on top. As for connectivity, the phone supports 4G/ 3G / 2G networks along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Unfortunately, with the slight increase in the specs, the company has also increased the price tag of the device. The earlier model, i.e. the Huawei C1999 was available for $325 in the market, however the new model’s price will go as much as 2299 yuan which comes to around $367 in USD.

At this price, you have some Chinese flagship options which offer much better specs, so it would be interesting to see how this phone performs in the domestic market.

You can check out the phone on Vmall.

12.9-inch iPad Plus leaked, rumored to be 7mm thin

ipad plus-12.9-inch

For the past few months, we have been regularly hearing about a large screen tablet from Apple. The device was expected to debut last year itself alongside the iPad Air 2  but it is said that due to production issues, the company had to delay its launch.

Today, we are once again seeing a new leak about the said device and contrary to the recent rumors which named the tablet as the Apple iPad Pro, this particular image of the large screen Apple tablet is named as the iPad Plus. So, could Apple be using the same naming scheme for its large screen tablet as the iPhone 6 Plus? Well, we don’t know that for sure, but it won’t be surprising if it comes to be true.

ipad-plus

The same Weibo source also reveals that the upcoming tablet will feature a 12.9-inch 2K display. It will be extremely thin and light too. It is said that the iPad Plus will feature a 7mm thin profile, which is quite thin for a tablet of this size and will weigh less than 700 grams. As for battery, the company will reportedly increase the capacity to 11000mAh which will be almost 150% increase as compared to the current iPad Air 2. It is also said that the device can use third party protective keyboard cases.

The source further revealed that the company will most likely scrap the existing iPad Mini 3 in favor of iPad Mini 4 and will continue selling the old iPad Mini 2 version. Also, Apple plans to bring three different iPhone screen sizes in the market, which hints at a possible 4-inch iPhone’s entry into the market.

Remember that the news is not official and hence, we can’t really confirm anything at the moment. So, make sure that you take this leak with a pinch of salt.

Check back on us in the coming weeks for more updates.

Meizu M1 battery capacity reduced to 2500mAh!

According to the latest reports, the recently announced Meizu Blue Charm will ship with a smaller battery of 2500 mAh. During the announcement, the company had said that the phone will come with a 2610 mAh battery pack.

bch

The company said that due to quality control measures, it had to change the battery supplier in its latest smartphone. Meizu decided to go with a new supplier to increase the battery size on its Blue Charm smartphone, however the battery supplier failed to provide quality control measures in the long run, after which the company decided to go with a smaller battery. So, the Meizu M1 battery will be reduced to 2500mAh in all the units that will be shipped. The company has even changed the specifications on its official website to notify the change.

The overall specifications of the phone makes Meizu’s smartphone one of the best value for money budget phones in the market. The company made sure that its nearest competitor in the price segment, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is inferior to its phone in almost every aspect. Meizu’s Blue Charm specs are better and even the overall design of the phone is better than the Redmi 2. Even with this change, the Blue Charm will still have a bigger battery than the Xiaomi’s 2200 mAh.

The overall specifications of the phone are pretty high end for its price class. The 699 Yuan Meizu M1 comes with a 64-bit quad-core MT6732 processor along with 1GB RAM and 8GB of expandable memory. There is a 5-inch display up front which sports a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. There will be a 13MP rear camera and with this change, a 2500 mAh battery. The phone will support high speed 4G LTE networks and will come in a number of color options.

With this slight change in the battery capacity, users might be worried that the battery life of the phone could be affected. However, Meizu has assured that after OS optimizations, the Meizu Blue Charm will offer the same kind of battery life as it did with the 2610 mAh battery.

Anyways, we still haven’t got the device for testing, so once this revised model hits the stores, we’ll have a better idea how long this 2500 mAh Meizu M1 battery will power the device.

Huawei P8’s specs, price and launch date leaked on Weibo

The Weibo account @Ubuntu团队 used to leak the latest information of Meizu, and they just posted a image to show Huawei P8’s specs, price and launch date.

huawei p8 leak price

It says Huawei P8 will have zirconium oxide porcelain uni-body design with double sided glass probably with gorilla glass 3 protection. Moreover, it will be quite thin too, much thinner than the iPhone 6 models at just 6mm. The company will incorporate the same dual camera setup that’s currently found on the Huawei Honor 6 Plus along with an additional biometric fingerprint sensor.

However, even this amazing design is not going to be highlight of the Huawei P8 flagship as the leak says that the company will put in a powerful Kirin 930 processor which will use the 16nm process. If this does turns out to be true, Kirin 930 will become the first SoC in the market to use this process. The latest Snapdragon 810 or even Apple’s A8 processors all use the 20nm process.

The battery is said to be 2600 which frankly will be quite small considering today’s high end standards. The same source reveals that the device will be unveiled at a special event in London on 15 April this year for a price tag of 2999 Yuan which comes to around $480. This would be a great price if the upcoming Huawei P8 flagship does feature the above specs.

We are sure, there will more such leaks in the coming few weeks, so stay tuned to the website for latest updates.
