The device also features a Full Vision display with a nearly bezel-less design. The V30 has proven to be a lot different from other flagships in many aspects and that has again been reaffirmed by the latest Scratch, burn and bed test carried out on the V30 by JerryRigsEverything (Zacks Jerry).

We recently saw the teardown of the V30 which indicated a well thought-out internal design and hardware. The latest scratch, bend and burn test saw the V30 performing extremely well under tough conditions. The device was first subjected to a scratch test where the display is scratched with a scratch pen and the device was able to withstand up to level 6 on the Mohs scale. That is because the display is protected by a Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The scratch test was also carried out on the rest of the body and that shows the body is entirely made of metal which doesn’t scratch easily.

The V30 was next subjected to a burn test and the burn test revealed that after 10 seconds the screen started to show damage to the pixels. Since it is OLED display, the damage is irreversible but then, who exposes direct fire to a flagship’s display for up to 10 seconds? Lastly, the bend test was carried out and the V30 comes out victorious. Zacks Jerry noted that the LG V30 is a “solid, premium-feeling phone.”

To refresh our memories, the LG V30 features a 6-inch OLED display with a 1440 x 2880 resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It has 4GB of RAM that is paired with a Snapdragon 835 SoC. A 16MP f/1.6 sensor paired with a 13MP f/1.9 lens grace its back. Up in front is a 5MP f/2.2 sensor. The V30 also comes with an IP68 rating, packs a 3300mAh battery and runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. HEre is the Scratch, Burn and Bend test video.

Yesterday, report reached us that LG began sending out official invites to members of the press. The invite confirms the launch will hold on August at 9 AM at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin.

There are just a few details we do not know about the LG V30. We already know what it looks like and that it will feature a single 6-inch Quad HD+ POLED display and a Snapdragon 835 processor. The display will be curved on both edges and feature thin bezels at the top and bottom.

It will also have dual-rear cameras and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner adorning the glass back. Other expected features include advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC, HDR 10 support, and Google Daydream compatibility.

It is expected to go on sale on September 15 in South Korea and September 28 in the US. There have been lots of leaks, mostly from genuine and confirmed sources regarding the design of the upcoming flagship and a new one courtesy of Onleaks was revealed today on twitter. This new leak gives us a full look at the design.

The image is a schematic diagram gotten from the LG V30’s user manual, so this is definitely what we are getting when it launches.

The biggest change coming to the LG V30 is the display. The V-series is known for its dual displays but this year the V30 will only have one display. And it is the same full-vision type as the one in the LG G6 but bigger. The display is curved at the corners but doesn’t reach the top, leaving space for a front camera, earpiece and sensors.

The rear of the phone shows that the V30 will retain the dual camera design as its predecessor. The cameras are positioned horizontally and share a single housing. Flanking the cameras on the right is the LED flash and probably a laser focus module. Below them both is a circular fingerprint scanner.

The LG V30 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. A Geekbench listing shows it will come with 4GB of RAM and Android 7.1.2. Last year’s model was the first smartphone to launch with Android Nougat but it seems things will be different this year.

As the date draws closer, it is expected that regular leaks and renders of the device would appear online every now and then. One of such renders of the V30 has surfaced in an introductory video but this one appears to be an official video of the V30.

With the appearance of the LG logo at the end of the video and the title suggesting that it is an introductory video of the V30, the design is thus likely the real design of the V30. The video was posted on YouTube by Concept Creator which is known for fan-generated renders of unannounced phones. Their renders most times end up being the concept of their imagination. We can’t say that for sure in this case because the render matches up with a previously leaked photo purported to be the real V30.

The video shows the device from all angles and captures the absence of a secondary display on the front panel just as earlier rumoured. The renders also show a dual camera setup at the rear with LED flash as well as what looks like laser autofocus. There is also a rear mounted fingerprint sensor under the dual cameras. The renders sees the V30 written at the bottom part of back cover, different from an earlier leak which shows there’ll be a change with “LG” written instead. The specifications of the V30 are still sketchy as of this moment but the device is tipped to pack a 5.7-inch display with QHD resolution and an 18: 9 aspect ratio. The device is also expected to come with 6GB of RAM and powered by the Snapdragon 835 chip. The interface is expected to be provided by LG UI based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Ahead of its launch, a leaked photo of the V30’s rear case has appeared online. The leaked case, which was shared on Slashleak by a contributor with a 92% accuracy score, comes with one key feature that is generating some controversy. That feature is the LG logo that is printed at the lower part of the rear case. This is entirely different from LG’s usual pattern of written the model name at the back, in this case, “V30”, instead of “LG”.

However, the leaked case has similar features with earlier ones despite the difference in the logo. There is obviously a dual camera setup at the rear with what looks like a set of opening for the LED flash and other sensors by the side. There is also an opening for a rear fingerprint sensor on the device which is basically all there is to see on the rear casing. But the V30 is expected to feature a wireless charging module at the back as well. The LG flagship is also expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chip backed by 4GB of RAM. The device is also said to come with IP 68 water and dustproof certificate.

Despite the situation where previous renders had come with V30 written at the rear, we can’t brush this aside as fake. It is possible LG has decided to modify that aspect for reasons best known to them. There is still a possibility this one is fake, so it’s better you take it with a pinch of salt.

One device which holds a lot of anticipation is the LG V30, perhaps due to the success of the V20. A new leaked photo has emerged showing the V30 will come with wireless charging technology. It’s predecessor, the V20 did not come with wireless charging feature but the LG G6 had wireless charging technology only on the models sold in the U.S.

The LG V30 design is expected to be such that would allow for a wireless charging technology onboard. The all-metal body featured on the V20 might have prevented the device from featuring wireless charging technology. However, the V30 is said to use a metal frame and a glass body which would allow for the feature to be included. The leaked mid frame shows the module for the wireless charging feature at the back of the frame and is sort of a confirmation of an earlier leak that pointed at wireless charging and a glass back.

In addition, the LG V30 is said to discard the secondary display which is the feature the V-series are known for it is getting known for. Instead, the V30 is said to come with an AMOLED display which may have an “Always on”feature. The device is also rumoured to launch sometime in the third quarter of the year which could be sometime around September.

Specs wise, the V30 is tipped to pack a 5.7-inch display with QHD resolution and an 18: 9 aspect ratio. The device is also expected to pack 6GB of RAM and powered by the Snapdragon 835 chip. The interface is expected to be provided by LG UI based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Although the event is scheduled to start on September 1 and run through to September 6, the launch is said to be on August 31.We presume it will be unveiled at a sort of pre-event before IFA begins.

The LG V30 will be the third in the V-series and will be LG’s first Snapdragon 835 phone. According to leakster @OnLeaks, the LG V30 will be sporting a new design.

According to my sources, #LGV30 will support wireless charging and thus, very likely have glass back. Still have dual rear cam and rear FPS.

— Steve H.McFly (@OnLeaks) June 23, 2017

Unlike its predecessors which both have metal backs, the LG V30 will swap it for glass. The change in material also means the V30 gets wireless charging support. Other details mentioned by OnLeaks include the presence of dual rear cameras and a rear mounted fingerprint scanner.

Some say the change to glass is a move by LG to unify the design language of its flagships. The LG G6 and its newly announced siblings sport glass backs but only the G6 Plus supports wireless charging.

There is no mention of the LG V30 having a secondary display but since the feature has become associated with the V-series, it should have irrespective of the bezel-less design it is gunning for.

An early design of the LG V30 showed a secondary display that slides out from beneath the main one. A new take on secondary displays but one that appears to have been ditched by LG. The display for the V30 will also, for the first time be OLED.

One of the interesting parts is the design stage, where several design ideas are submitted and only one is chosen. Sometimes we get to see some of these designs leak after the product is released, while at other times, it is before the product is even out.

These design images provided by Evan Blass (@evleaks) are said to be old mock-ups of Project Joan a.k.a LG V30. It is important to note that LG may no longer be using this design and the LG V30 may look entirely different. However, the design is interesting and is one that has never been seen before on a smartphone.

Weekend bonus: this is an old-ish mockup of Project Joan, a.k.a. the LG V30. Not clear if the project is still headed in this direction. [1] pic.twitter.com/k5jNJ7DyLz

— Evan Blass (@evleaks) May 27, 2017

First thing the leak reveals is the codename for the V30 which is Project Joan. So there’s a chance that other leaks in the future might surface under this name.

Going into the design, we see LG V30 sports the slide design of old that was brought back by the BlackBerry Priv. However, instead of sliding upwards to reveal a physical keyboard, we get a secondary display.

Here's how the device was envisioned to look with the secondary display fully extended. [2] pic.twitter.com/HNkZErj7xB

— Evan Blass (@evleaks) May 27, 2017

The secondary display serves a number of functions depending on the app in use as seen from follow up tweets. It can serve as a shortcut panel for a number of apps. In the image above, we see it holding a bunch of Google apps.

Finally, several use-case scenarios for the second screen. [3] pic.twitter.com/ZKucMOScam

— Evan Blass (@evleaks) May 27, 2017

In a third tweet, we see the secondary display take on a number of functions: as a sub-menu for a number of apps; a keyboard for a chat app, and an extension of the main screen when its locked. In the very first image, it even serves as a sort-of always-on display when you slide down the phone.

READ MORE: Images of LG G6 Mini With Smaller 5.4-inch 18:9 Display Surface, Launching Soon?

Another interesting thing about this design of the LG V30 is the camera design at the back. If you take a closer look, there seems to be three camera sensors and a LED flash in that setup. The phone is also missing a fingerprint sensor. LG doesn’t use a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, so it can’t possibly be embedded in the power button. Since this is just a possible design, we can forgive these omissions.

What do you think of the design? Hit or miss?

The device also came with a rich specs lineup which included a dual lens setup at the rear and a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC chip which helps reduce ambient noise levels by up to 50%, thus offering a better sound output. If the V20 was an amazing device, early rumours about the LG V30 brings the prospect of a more stunning device.

LG V20

According to the latest leak, the LG V30 would come with a curved OLED display. Recall that LG display was said to have supplied Xiaomi the curved OLED used on the Mi Note 2. That display was not only curved, but the panel was flexible. However, due to the difficulty in mass producing the flexible OLED panel, availability of the Mi Note 2 became an issue. But according to news from South Korea, LG has gotten a better production technique and would now be able to mass produce the flexible OLED panels. Apart from the V30, the LG will also supply the new generation of OLED panels to the next generation Mi Note series device which is expected to be the Mi Note 3.

LG Curved OLED Display Prototype

LG V30 is expected to launch in the second half of the year and would use a narrow frame design similar to the one on the recently released LG G6. In addition, the V30 is rumoured to come with a Snapdragon 835 flagship chip as well as a 4GB RAM, while some rumours say 6GB of RAM. The flagship is also expected with a Quad DAC audio decoder chip and rear dual camera setup. The device is also likely to come with a dual-lens camera at the front.

Even though HTC holds the title of having the first real dual camera phone, LG ‘s name still pops up each time the history of dual camera phones is being discussed. The Korea company looks set to take the bar a tad higher once again by releasing a phone with dual cameras at the front and rear a the same time.

This kind of setup will likely be on the LG V30 whose front panel leaked on Slashleaks recently. Although only the front panel was leaked showing there would be dual cameras up front, the LG V30 may likely follow the trend of the V10 and V20 which had dual cameras at their rear aspects. Also, the panel reveals another shocking detail, which is the likely cancellation of the secondary display which has been the hallmark of previous LG V-series smartphones.

The tipster is credited with some high level of credibility so, the leak is likely that of the V30. Besides, we had already started getting rumours that the V30 would pack the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset as well as 6GB of RAM. We hope to see more leaks as time progresses.
