A single day is all it took for the new OnePlus Watch 2 to achieve record sales. The company’s latest smartwatch model even managed to break the sales record of its predecessor, the original OnePlus Watch, in just 24 hours as well.

OnePlus Watch 2 Sales Record

To recall, OnePlus recently unveiled the Watch 2 during the MWC 2024 event (Mobile World Congress). Quickly after the announcement, the smartphone went on sale. In just the first day, the OnePlus Watch 2 achieved record breaking sales. The Chinese brand took to X (formerly Twitter) to share this milestone from its official European handle. The tweet states that the OnePlus Watch 2 “smashed records” of the OnePlus Watch 1’s 1 first month sales in just one day.

This clearly showcases the popularity and success of the new wearable device that is only listed for pre-orders right now and sales kick off on March 4. For those unaware, the OnePlus Watch 2 sports a 1.43-inch AMOLED display that offers 600 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood, it is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 SoC that is paired with BES 2700 MCU Efficiency chipset.

The processors are paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Furthermore, the smartwatch runs on Google’s Wear OS 4. It is powered by a 500mAh battery pack that promises to offer 100 hours long battery life in smart mode and 48 hours in heavy use. The OnePLus Watch 2 comes in Black Steel and Radiant Steel and costs $299.99 in the US, €329 in the EU, and £299 in the UK.

Xiaomi‘s latest generation of flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 14 series, was just recently unveiled in the global market. These models are currently on sale in Europe and it seems that sales have already surpassed the predecessor, the Xiaomi 13 lineup.

For those unaware, the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra hit the European market this week. These are the newest premium grade devices from the company and appear to be a lot more popular than the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Ultra from last year. Lu Weibing, Xiaomi President and Redmi General Manager revealed that the newer smartphones are outselling the older models by a large margin.

The two flagship phones only recently went on sale in the region but the top end Xiaomi 14 Ultra model sales have tripled over last year’s 13 Ultra. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 14 has impressed even more with sales that are a whopping six times higher than the older Xiaomi 13 at the same time last year.

It is worth noting that these sales figures from the Chinese tech giant likely refer to the initial hours of the sale rather than overall availability since the Xiaomi 14 lineup is still quite new. To recall, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra was just launched in China recently and has also been selling better than the 13 Ultra.

Earlier this week, the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ were unveiled in the Indian market. The new smartphones’ first open sale is set to kick off on 6th February 2024, however, the early access sale was already live. Now, the company has announced that the Realme 12 Pro series has set the fastest sales record for its price segment in the region.

Realme 12 Pro series breaks fastest sales record in India

To recall, the pre-orders for the new devices went live soon after their announcement offering benefits of up to Rs 5,999. In a tweet, the Chinese smartphone maker confirmed that the latest handsets were quite popular as they broke sales records in India. The Realme 12 Pro series managed to achieve the fastest sales record in the Rs 30,000+ price segment during its early access sale period.

Unfortunately, no official sales numbers were revealed on X (formerly Twitter). Although, it manages to retain the same momentum as the Realme 11 Pro 5G, which also set a new record for the highest first sales in the Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 price range in the past. For those unaware, the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ models sport a tall 6.7-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution, 2160Hz PWM dimming, and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the former is equipped with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC while the latter has a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC. A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers both devices, which supports 67W fast charging. These models also run on the Android 14 OS based Realme UI 5.0 custom skin out of the box.

The brand’s first foldable phone was well received in the market, with robust sales across various regions. OnePlus began selling the Open back in October with an introductory offer. For those unaware, the device is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC that is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The rear packs a 49-megapixel triple camera setup, while the front houses a 20-megapixel and 32-megapixel selfie shooter (main and cover screens).

In fact, the annual sales of our foldable devices have exceeded the Note series in Europe.” The company didn’t mention any exact figures and details about other markets. But mentioned the sales ratio of 7:3 between the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. The buyers opted for Graphite and Mint colors while grabbing Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Icy Blue and Phantom Black Galaxy Z Fold 5.

It is a great achievement for the Samsung Mobile team, as alongside the sales, the Average Selling Price – ASP has increased considerably over time. The expectations of Samsung seem to have aligned well with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 sales.

Recent reports also confirmed better sales of the new Galaxy Foldables in other markets. In India, Samsung registered a 70% increase in pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. On the global stage, the sales have already surpassed 10 million units.

To be more specific, the company adds that more than 67 million users across the globe have created over 2 million portrait photos using their Reno series smartphone.

For those unaware, the Reno smartphone lineup was launched as a series that will include both mid range and flagship grade models. However, these specifically have a focus on photography. Initial models had arrived with 10x magnification with newer entries having a portrait photography focus.

As per the teaser, Oppo states that “The remarkable Reno Series has inspired and elevated the smartphone photography to unprecedented heights.” Notably, this teaser also arrives soon after the brand announced its latest Reno 10 series of smartphones in India earlier today (10th July 2023), which is the newest entry in the Reno lineup. Logitech has announced the preliminary financial results for the third quarter of the Fiscal Year 2023. As predicted, the tech company has reported a loss in revenue as compared to the same period last year. The impending fear of recession combined with massive layoffs has changed consumer spending habits this year and hence it is no surprise that Logitech reported a 22% fall in quarterly sales. However, the actual figures were worse than the company’s expectations.

The preliminary results show the net sales of the company were between $1.26 billion and $1.27 billion, down 22% as compared to Q3 of the previous fiscal year. The GAAP( Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) operating income is between $171 million and $176 million, down to 33%, compared to $263 million in the same quarter a year ago. 

This downward trend in its financials is not surprising given that the company had already predicted negative growth for the year ending 2023. The company had previously predicted an outlook of between negative 8 percent and negative 4 percent sales growth in constant currency, and between $650 million and $750 million in non-GAAP operating income.

After the preliminary results of the third quarter, the company has further adjusted its Fiscal Year 2023 outlook to between negative 15 percent and negative 13 percent sales growth in constant currency, and between $550 million and $600 million in non-GAAP operating income. 

The previous year 2021-22 was great for Logitech as the pandemic-induced remote working scenario led to an increased demand for its products like computer gadgets and gaming devices. However, now things are looking bleak for the company as the fear of impending recession, combined with massive layoffs, has reduced the demand for its computer and home office products. As more and more people are getting back to the office, the demand for home office supplies is dwindling. Also, the fear of an imminent global recession and rising inflation has further shrunk the market. 

The global consumer trend 2023, revealed that the cost-of-living crisis is undermining purchasing power for consumers, and saving money is the top priority. Consumption behaviors are less about the acquisition and more about the reduction in 2023. These trends offer insight into the sharp drop in the revenue of companies like Logitech, as consumers are now in savings mode rather than a spending spree. 

Logitech President and CEO, Bracken Darrell commented, “We are disappointed in these preliminary third-quarter results. They reflect challenging macroeconomic conditions. Based on the softer-than-expected third-quarter results, and uncertainty in supply availability, we are reducing our full-year outlook.”

Apple recently launched the latest iPhone lineup in the form of the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro series. This time, the company has also introduced the iPhone 14 Plus model as a replacement for the Mini model. But it appears that things aren’t going as planned for the Cupertino-based technology giant.

According to the latest report, Apple has cut down the production capacity of the iPhone 14 Plus model because of weak sales. The phone is basically the iPhone 14 with a bigger screen and a bit higher price tag.

As per the report from The Information, Apple has instructed its manufacturers in China to immediately halt production of a component for the phone. It further adds that two other suppliers that assemble modules from that component have also significantly cut production.

It appears that customers are leaning more towards the iPhone 14 Pro as the pricing is just $100 more than the 14 Plus model but comes with several new features, including upgraded internals. In Q2 2022 (April–June), India shipped about 37 million smartphones, an increase of 9% YoY but a decline of 5% QoQ, per the most recent analysis from Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service. The second COVID-19 wave caused a smaller base in Q2 2021, which was the main factor in the YoY growth. Macroeconomic factors that are impacting consumer demand are what caused the QoQ decline.

According to Counterpoint, Senior Research Analyst Prachir Singh commented on the market dynamics, saying, “We saw the consumer demand declining QoQ during the quarter, especially in May and June. Consumers are preferring to repair their device or buy a refurbished one than make a new purchase. This trend is more visible in the entry and budget segments. Due to this decline in demand, almost all the brands are facing inventory issues. At the end of June, India’s smartphone market was sitting on more than 10 weeks of inventory, more than double the normal inventory size. Brands were seen aggressively promoting offers to clear this inventory and prepare for the festive season.”

The market for mobile phones in India increased by 6% YoY but decreased by 9% QoQ in Q2 2022. The fall in consumer demand was the main factor in the feature phone market’s QoQ decline of 17%. In Q2 2022, itel has a 25% market share in India’s feature phone market. For ten consecutive quarters, Itel has been the leading feature phone manufacturer.

Honor, which was a sub-brand of Huawei, became an independent brand last year as the Chinese giant has been struggling to maintain its presence in the smartphone market because of the sanctions imposed by the United States.

Ever since becoming an independent brand, the company has been actively trying to regain the lost market share and expand its footprints. Now, at the sidelines of the Honor 60 series launch, the company’s CEO shared some key details related to the company.

Honor CEO Zhao Ming has revealed that the company now has an offline presence in more than 30,000 locations, which includes official retail stores, special zones, counters, and authorized experience stores.

Not just that, he has also revealed that the company is getting almost 70 percent of its total sales from these offline stores. This is quite an interesting development given that Honor mostly positions its devices in the mid-range segment and it was the leading company for online sales in China under Huawei.

Zhao Ming has said that the company is now planning to increase the speed at which Honor retail stores are being built. In the month of October and November this year, the company added over 2,000 more offline stores to its tally and the number is still growing.

During its peak, Honor-branded smartphones accounted for about 16.7 percent of the market share in China. However, it fell to about 3 percent in the first quarter of 2021, just as the company split from Huawei.

But the company has rapidly regained the lost market share. The brand has now become a part of the top three smartphone manufacturers in China with a market share of 14.6 percent. Not just China, Honor has also resumed business operations in about 50 countries around the world and is now focusing on recovering the lost market share.

Further, it has been revealed that Samsung’s smartphone sales increased by 200 percent year-on-year. Additionally, Realme and iQOO’s turnover in the first 15 minutes increased six times year-on-year. Also, the turnover of Active Noise Cancellation earphones increased by 260 percent YoY in the first 10 minutes.

The company has also reevaled that the overall turnover of JD Supermarket increased by more than 10 times year-on-year. It’s also noteworthy that a large number of merchants and stores broke through last year’s sales records throughout the day in the early morning. The average single store transaction volume of core stores settled this year was 4.3 times that of the same period of last year’s new store sales.

The world’s leading smartphone manufacturer, Samsung Electronics, has announced that the domestic sales of the company’s new flagship smartphone lineup — the Galaxy S21 series, has surpassed the 1 million units mark last week.

As per the claims by Samsung, the Galaxy S21 series, which was released on 29th January, has managed to achieve this milestone in 57 days of its launch. This is about one month faster than its predecessor.

While the pace of sales for the new lineup seems faster than its predecessor, it is still slower than the S10 series launched in the year 2019, which topped the 1 million mark for its units in just 47 days.

Samsung usually announces its new S-series flagship smartphones around mid-February every year but this time, the company launched the Samsung Galaxy S21 series in the month of January, that too with comparatively lower price tags.

In South Korea, the S21 was priced at 999,900 won (~$880), which is cheaper than the low-end S20 last year priced at 1.24 million won. This has also helped the company boost its sales numbers within this time frame.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 accounted for 52 percent of the total S21-series sales, followed by the Galaxy S21 Ultra with 27 percent and Galaxy S21 Plus with 21 percent. The lineup accounted for 20 percent of the company’s total sales in South Korea and 60 percent of them were purchased online.

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has reported that the worldwide sales of semiconductors have grown in the month of August 2020. As per their report, the sales reached 36 billion US Dollars.

According to TheElec report, the growth marks a 4.9 percent increase year on year from back in 2019 during the same month. Furthermore, this also showcases the growth of 3.6 percent from back in July 2020. Notably, the rise arrives as the seventh consecutive month where the industry has seen growth, with the most noticeable surge being seen in America.

In the US, sales rose by 23.6 percent year on year, reaching 7.92 billion US Dollars in the month of August. However, despite the overall growth, the semiconductor sales in Europe declined by 10.1 percent, with Japan also seeing a drop of 1.4 percent as well.

Although, all other regions saw growth when compared to July 2020, with the Asia Pacific/All Others seeing a 5.6 percent growth, and Europe sales rising by 5.5 percent. China, the Americas, and Japan saw an increase of 2.9 percent, 2.6 percent, and 1.5 percent, respectively. But SIA also noted that it expected to see a negative trend from the remainder of the year, as uncertainties remain high from the coming months.

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is currently gearing up to launch its flagship Redmi K30 Pro smartphone in its home country China in the coming days. As the name itself confirms, the device is the upgraded or Pro variant of the Redmi K30 smartphone that was launched a couple of months ago.

Now, the company has officially confirmed that the sale of Redmi K30 models have crossed the mark of one million units in China. Canalys reports that after 8 long years of stagnation, the PC market has finally recorded its first full year of growth. According to Canalys, a total of 268.1 million units were shipped globally in 2019, which is a 2.7% over 2018. The top three vendors of vendors this year were Lenovo, HP and Dell who make up the bulk of sales for desktops, notebooks and workstations.

Ishan Dutt, an analyst at Canalys, claims that PCs had a very impressive holiday turnout. “This is impressive given the market registered record growth in Q3. Despite supply chain issues, vendors remain bullish, especially in commercial. Intel’s continued efforts to improve supply will help maintain volume in 2020, but constraints are unlikely to ease quickly. The upshot, however, is the upgrade opportunities OEMs have with SMBs who have delayed refreshes in anticipation of new chipsets.”

Lenovo has shipped 64.8 million units registering an 8.6 per cent growth. This was closely followed by HP that has registered a 4.7 per cent growth. Dell took the third spot with 46.5 million PCs shipped, recording a 5.3 per cent growth this year. Apple took the fourth spot with 19.1 million units and 3.3 per cent annual growth. Acer, at number fifth position, shipped a total of 17 million units, registering an annual decline of 5.3 per cent. Whereas Acer maintained the fifth spot.

“This past year was a wild one in the PC world, which resulted in impressive market growth that ultimately ended seven consecutive years of market contraction,” said IDC program veep Ryan Reith. He said that despite emerging form factors and demand for mobile computing, the bounce was a “clear sign PC demand is still there.” Shipments in three of the four quarters last year were up, IDC added.

Both research houses concurred that businesses fleeing Windows 7 – which has ran out of official support – was the main driver. Mikako Kitagawa, senior principal analyst, described it as “vibrant business demand.” “Contrasted against the ongoing weakness in consumer PC demand, business PC demand has led to unit growth in five of the last seven quarter,” she added.

Jitesh Ubrani, research manager at IDC, sounded a note of caution before the PC vendors get carried away on a way of growth. “Despite the positivity surrounding 2019, the next 12 to 18 months will be challenging for traditional PCs, as the majority of Windows 10 upgrades will be in the rearview mirror and lingering concerns around component shortages and trade negotiations get ironed out.”

Apple Inc. has recently seen weak iPhone sales in China, according to Credit Suisse, adding to recent caution about the region. Shipments of the iPhone fell 35.4% on a year-over-year basis in November, “significantly lagging the 0.2% y/y increase in the broader Chinese smartphone market,” claims analyst Matthew Cabral.

Apple’s share of the Chinese smartphone market slipped to 5 percent from 7 percent last month as it struggled to compete with Chinese juggernaut Huawei, which captured 42 percent of its local market last month. This drop has come despite the Chinese smartphone market being slightly up and follows a double-digit drop in October of 10.3%.

This year at IFA 2019, Huawei released the Kirin 990 5G processor, the world’s first 5G chipset built on a 7nm EUV process. The Kirin chipsets have always been a hallmark of Huawei’s devices, often being a selling point for them. Huawei themselves have never really treated these as commercial products, but rather as important intellectual property. Which is exactly why this statement by Richard Yu after IFA 2019 is so surprising.

According to Globaltimes, in the interview after IFA, Huawei CEO Richard Yu claimed that Huawei is now considering selling their Kirin chipsets to other industries, though only for specific uses such as in IoT fields. The company is still hesitant to deal with the export of Kirin processors for smartphones, though they did not rule out the possibility.

This is a huge turnaround from the company’s previous stance on Kirin chipsets. In the past, Huawei has always vehemently abhorred talks about selling their Kirin chipsets to others. Just last year Senior Product Director Brody Ji claimed: “For Huawei, Kirin is not a business but a product or technology that acts as our competitive edge against rival smartphone brands.”

So the big question is, why the sudden change of heart? First off, the elephant in the room is probably Huawei’s current US ban. It’s possible that the company is expecting a huge drop in revenue from the ban, possibly due to the losses in the international market, and as a result, is pressured into taking this step as a means to alleviate their revenue problems. It’s also possible the company’s just looking to expand their horizons further.

Now, there’s plenty of good that comes out of this for Huawei, the obvious one being an increase in revenue. Huawei has a pedigree of excellence when it comes to chipset design, which is evident from its recent Kirin 990 launch. So even if it’s limited to non-smartphone devices, we can definitely see there being a reception for these.

On top of that, this can also help Huawei expand its connections with other companies and build bridges that will help them in the future. From the recent Honor Smart Screen launch, we know that Huawei wants to build a smart interconnected system that allows many different devices to communicate freely. It even opens the door for Huawei to market HarmonyOS more effectively, allowing for a higher and faster rate of adoption.

On the downside, Huawei selling their processors would essentially make their own devices stand out less, especially when it comes to their smart devices. The company’s smartphone division would likely be less unharmed, but their smart products like TVs and stuff would gain competition from the very companies that Huawei works with.

Regardless of how things turn out, we’re eager to see what happens next. These past few months have been some of the most exciting to watch, and it doesn’t seem like it’s slowing down anytime soon. Huawei has some tough times ahead of them, but we’re hoping sudden and unexpected moves like these will allow the company to regain ground soon.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, predicts in a new research report that Huawei can expect to ship out 230 million devices in 2019, a bit lower than their previous estimates of 260 million. Ming-Chi Kuo also expects Huawei’s mobile phone shipments in 2020 to be similar to 2019 overall when it comes to volume, but the interesting part comes right after that.

The analyst goes on to predict in the report that Huawei’s market share in the Chinese market will increase from 35-40% in 2019 to 45-50% in 2020. This essentially means he expects Huawei to be in control of half of the Chinese market, and that this may just be enough to somewhat offset the declining international sales of the company.

Ming-Chi Kuo goes on to say that Huawei is expected to adopt two strategies in 2020 to reduce the potential recession risk in the international market. First of all, he expects Huawei to make a bigger push towards promoting older devices overseas. According to him, the older devices are already Google certified, so they’ll retain Google apps and Android updates.

The second strategy is attempting to control a bigger share of the Chinese market. As we’ve already pointed out, Ming-Chi Kuo believes Huawei obtaining a bigger market share will keep Huawei safe from declining sales internationally, though those are tall market share numbers if we’ve ever seen them. I’d say it’s optimistic, but we can’t say it’s impossible.

Outside of this, he also predicts that Huawei will ship 100 million 5G smartphones in 2020, and that they’ll beat their competitors in that section of the market. The latest report released by IDC shows that in the second quarter of 2019, Huawei shipped 36.3 million units in the Chinese market, with a market share of 37%, a year-on-year increase of 27%. It is also the only mobile phone company among TOP5 manufacturers as of right now.

Huawei is looking for people “who have made extraordinary achievements in mathematics, computer science, physics, materials science, chips, smart manufacturing, or chemistry – and who are hungry to become leaders in their fields.”

“Innovation is the core necessity to win future wars of technology and business, and talent is the key driver of technological innovation and business innovation. We will attract top talents with top challenges and top salaries,” said the corporate document.

According to Liu Chenglin, instructor of Zhong and deputy director of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, it’s normal to see these students getting high salaries as artificial intelligence is a hot field in recent years that sees higher demand for quality talents. However, he is still amazed by what Huawei has offered, saying that it was rare to see fresh graduates gaining annual salary exceeding 1 million yuan.

“Priority will be given to people whose research has produced tangible and impactful results, research papers, or patents; people from top-notch labs or honors programs; and winners of top international competitions in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines,” according to Huawei.

Huawei has been going through a critical phase in recent months since, in the major American market, the Trump administration has imposed tough sanctions on it and stepped up efforts to bar the firm from the 5G race. Amid growing American pressure, the company insists on collaboration on a broader scale and prioritizing acquisition of top talent, which is expected to promote its long-term growth, according to Huawei’s founder Ren Zhengfei.

Huawei’s Ren said in June that they will have to continue their lead in setting up technological standards and trying to attract more talents worldwide. Huawei at present has over 700 mathematicians, 800 physicists and 120 chemists, with a total of 15,000 researchers.

Huawei, despite the recent ban, has extended its lead in a declining China smartphone market in the second quarter of 2019, with its market share rising to 38% as all other top vendors lost ground. The company shipped 37.3 million smartphones in China in the second quarter, up 31% year-on-year, according to Canalys. Its market share rose more than 10 percentage points from the year-ago quarter’s 27.6%.

The second-quarter China shipments represented 64% of Huawei’s total smartphone shipments in the quarter, Canalys said. Smartphone shipments in the world’s largest smartphone market declined by 6% in the three months ended June to 97.6 million units. It was the 9th consecutive quarterly fall in China smartphone shipments, the data showed.

Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Apple Inc, the top 4 vendors behind Huawei, saw declines in shipments and market share in the quarter as well. Canalys’ own Mo Jia claims that Huawei’s addition to the U.S. Entity List in May “caused uncertainty overseas” but it has been shifting its focus back towards its home market, where it invested in aggressive offline expansion to lure consumers from domestic rivals with a patriotic sales pitch.

Huawei’s blacklisting by Washington has threatened to cut its access to essential U.S. components and software such as the Google Android apps. The Chinese company is set to report half-year results later on Tuesday. Huawei Developer Conference 2019 is also coming up soon, so we can expect to hear some news from the company then.

Apple‘s sales have seen a recent dip, but it seems the company is optimistic that sales will stabilize soon. Apple suppliers are currently planning to produce parts for up to 75 million iPhones for the second half of the year. This is equal to last year’s amount, which means they’re probably expecting sales to stabilize soon enough.

Now, it’s important to note that while they may be planning for 75 million units, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll manage to sell that many. It does however mean that Apple expects to sell close to that amount. Whether their confidence is misplaced or not remains to be seen, though it’s fully possible considering it’s a brand new launch.

Apple has recently stopped publicly reporting unit sales of iPhones and other products in its quarterly earnings releases, making it more difficult for analysts and others to track those numbers over time and requiring them to calculate unit sales based on reported revenue numbers and estimated average prices.

If you’ve been on the internet as of late, there’s a high chance you’ve seen renders for the new iPhone. Now personally I’m not a big fan of the new design, but there’s no doubt in my mind that it’ll still do well. The big question is, how well will it do in the currently more competitive market? We’ll have to wait and see.

According to Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s latest research report released today, it is expected that Huawei may regain Google’s GMS certification and authorization before the end of July. On top of this, they also claim that Huawei’s mobile phone shipments in 2019 is expected to reach 260 million units.

Ming-Chi Kuo claims that one reason for the increase in Huawei’s mobile phone shipments is that Huawei’s market share in China has gone up exponentially. Another reason is that Huawei’s mid- and low-end models have regained sales in overseas markets. In overseas markets, operators and vendors have resumed selling their devices, and the company has adopted a more aggressive sales strategy.

Although the market is still worried that Huawei won’t actually be able to get back Google’s GMS certification, Ming-Chi Kuo is confident that they’ll be able to regain it by the end of July. Adding on to that, he also believes that even if the company can’t regain GMS certification and authorization, they’ll still manage to hit 230 million shipments in 2019.

Ming-Chi Kuo also said that Huawei’s mobile phone supply chain has recently raised its forecast for shipments in the second half of the year and 2019. We’re not entirely sure it’s possible for Huawei to continue hitting these milestones, but we’re eager to find out. Samsung Electronics said Friday, July 5, it expects operating profit to tumble 56% for the second quarter of this year in the face of a weakening chip market. The world’s largest maker of smartphones and memory chips has enjoyed record profits in recent years despite a series of setbacks, but is now struggling, with chip prices falling as global supply increases while demand weakens.

Unpredictability surrounding the trade war between the U.S. and China — where Samsung earns the bulk of its revenue — has sustained a downturn in the chip industry as smartphone demand tapers off and the pace of datacenter construction decelerates. This puts the Huawei situation at the epicenter of this entire problem. It’s a real shame, but its gets worse.

“Memory prices are likely to keep sliding due to the ongoing trade war,” said Song Myung-sup, an analyst at HI Investment & Securities Co., adding that shipments should be stable as Chinese customers who haven’t received products from U.S. chipmakers are likely to increase orders. This isn’t boding well for most chipmakers unfortunately.

On the bright side, things aren’t all bad for good old Samsung. Samsung’s smartphone business could get a boost if the Huawei ban remains. HI Investment & Securities predicts that Samsung may sell 37 million more smartphones a year (which will take some pressure off the other divisions too as they’ll use some Samsung chips).

At the moment, Huawei is holding a new product launch conference at Wuhan Optics Valley International Tennis Center. At the event, we are waiting for a few new products to be announced. Of course, the most anticipated is the Nova 5 series devices. Before that though, Huawei’s consumer product line president He Gang took to the stage to announce that the company had successfully achieved 100 million sales on the 30th of May.

This is absolutely mind blowing from a numbers standpoint. To put this into perspective, this would mean that every 1 second, Huawei sells more than 7 smartphones worldwide. This is also 49 days faster than last year, which shows Huawei is still growing at a pretty speedy rate.

We’re eager to see how much more the company can grow later in 2019. Huawei’s strong first quarter performance is clearly not affected by the ban. Whether the company can continue this momentum remains to be seen, though it’s quite likely we’ll see these numbers go lower. After all, even Huawei have been less optimistic lately, which is quite a shame.

We’re still eager to see how the company continues from this point onwards. Later today we’ll be seeing the official Huawei Nova 5 launch, as well as their new tablets. How they’ll effect Huawei’s future sales, we’ve no clue, but we hope for the best that nothing too bad happens to the company. It’s quite sad to see, but things aren’t all bad at the very least.

Huawei has been cruising pretty well in these trying times, but it’s clear the ban has taken some toll on them. A senior executive for the company came out during the CES Asia technology show and gave us a glimpse into the status of the company. According to him, Huawei’s plans to become the top smartphone manufacturer in the world may have to wait.

We would have become the largest in the fourth quarter (of this year) but now we feel that this process may take longer,” said Shao Yang, chief strategy officer of Huawei Consumer Business Group, without elaborating on reasons. He also claimed that Huawei currently still sells 500,000 to 600,000 smartphones a day in a speech at the CES Asia technology show in Shanghai.

Huawei may be in a pretty bad spot at the moment, but things aren’t all bad. They’ve been pushing for more developers to put their apps on the Huawei AppGallery, and their upcoming OS is also in the works. It’s still nothing great, but it could be much worse for the company right now. As for how long Huawei can keep this up, we’re not sure.

Earlier this year, the beleaguered Chinese manufacturer overtook Apple as world number two and said it believed it would overtake Samsung “earliest this year, and next year at the latest.” This was despite the fact it has effectively been frozen out of the US market on national security grounds.

Xiaomi however are pushing the limits of price cuts by taking the Mi 8 Pro and its 2999 yuan ($430) price tag and slashing it down to 1899 yuan ($274). That’s almost a 30% cut, and historically the lowest price that the Mi8 Pro has been listed for.

On top of this huge price cut, there’s also an extr coupon that cuts the price down ever further to a mere 1799 yuan ($260). This literally brings it down to Poco F1 levels of pricing, and it’s an great buy. While the Mi 8 Pro may be a last generation flagship, but it’s by no means a slouch. It still has excellent build quality, fantastic performance and great cameras.

The device comes with an on-screen fingerprint sensor, as well as last gen’s Snapdragon 845 SoC. The version on sale here is the 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage version, and it’s the only option. On top of all this, it also features a 6.21 inch of Super AMOLED display having a 2248 x 1080 resolution and a notch.

As per the data released by JD.com for its 618 shopping festival on 10th June, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has dominated the sales list. It shows that the Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Youth Edition was the leading single-selling product and became the best-selling smartphone.

It was followed by Redmi 6A, Mi 6X, Mi 8 SE, Xiaomi Mi MIX 3, Mi 8 In-display Fingerprint Edition for the second to the sixth position. Then the Apple iPhone XR got the seventh spot, followed by Redmi Note 7, Redmi K20 Pro, and Huawei P30 Pro.

As you can see in the list, eight out of ten products are from Xiaomi. The other two products are from Apple and Huawei — iPhone XR and P30 Pro, holding the seventh and tenth position respectively.

The results aren’t surprising given that on 10th June, during the sale, it was Xiaomi Brand Day on JD.com, where various smartphones from the company were sold at a discounted price. This must have helped Xiaomi lead the list.

For instance, the Mi 8 Youth Edition smartphone with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage was offered at a discount of 300 yuan (approximately $478) and also offered a 50 yuan coupon to the buyers, bringing down the cost to 1,049 yuan (~$152).

Xiaomi has enjoyed relatively good financial results in recent times compared to the disappointing 2015 and 2016. The company announced Q1 2019 revenue of 43.8 billion yuan (~$6.34 billion), making for a 27.2 percent improvement compared to a year ago.

Further, the company also reported net profit of 2.1 billion yuan (~$304 million) for the first  quarter of 2019 — up 22.4 percent over Q1 2018. Xiaomi was still in fourth place for the quarter, but saw a 13 percent year-on-year decline in smartphone shipments. However, Xiaomi says its Chinese marketshare has actually increased for three consecutive months.
