I remember the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 2 which I owned, had multiple variants. Some of the differences were actually just limited to the chip and clockspeed. I think it’ll be interesting to find out who makes more variants between Xiaomi and ASUS.

The Zenfone 4 Max (ZC554KL) was the first of the Zenfone 4 series to be announced. It comes with a 5.5-inch FHD display, dual rear cameras, a Snapdragon 430 processor and a whooping 5000mAh battery.

A new leak has revealed that won’t be the only device with the Zenfone 4 Max name. Another one with model number ZC520KL will be released soon and it packs entirely different specs.

The display has been cut down to 5.2-inches with a 720p resolution. The processor has been replaced with the Snapdragon 425 and RAM and ROM are now 3GB and 32GB respectively. Instead of 13MP dual cameras, this Zenfone 4 Max has one 13MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary one. It also swaps out the 5000mAh battery for a 4100mAh one which isn’t bad for a 5.2-inch 720p phone.

The Zenfone 4 Max ZC520KL will sell for €229 (~$270)and will be available in black, gold and pink.

According to Quandt, Qualcomm and ASUS collaborated on the demonstration of 1 Gigabit LTE at the Italian press event. One of the other leaked images shown below shows that even Ericsson is also working with ASUS and Qualcomm. He revealed that the phone seen next to the laptop in the image is the ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro. It appears that the Snapdragon 835 chipset of the ZenFone 4 Pro is equipped with Snapdragon LTE X16 modem that is capable of delivering 1 Gbps LTE connectivity with carrier aggregation.

The real-life images of the ZenFone 4 Pro suggest that it would be coming with dual rear cameras that will carry support for 2x optical zoom. The Italian website has claimed that it has a 21-megapixel dual camera module. There is no confirmation on whether it features a pair of 21-megapixel sensors or if one of the camera lenses is of 21-megapixel sensor. Since it is rumored to be a flagship phone, the Italian publication has added that the Snapdragon 835 chipset will be powering the ZenFone 4 Pro.

The ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro is expected to come with a 5.7-inch AMOLED display that will produce Quad HD resolution. Below the display is a Home button that seems to be integrated with a fingerprint sensor.

On the official Facebook page, ASUS has released a couple of teaser images. The images with beautiful locales carry texts like “Time to be more than ONE”, “Time to be CLEARER”, and “Time to be see MORE” These images clearly hint that the ZenFone 4 would be equipped with dual rear cameras.

The ZenFone 4 series is speculated to include the following smartphones:

ZenFone 4 (Z01KD)

ZenFone 4V (A006)

ZenFone 4 Selfie (Z01MDA)

ZenFone 4 Pro (Z01GD)

ZenFone 4 Max (X00ID)

Fresh information suggests that both the ZenFone 4 models were certified by NCC on June 23. The ZenFone 4 Selfie was certified on June 26. The ZenFone 4 Pro and ZenFone 4 Max were respectively certified in Taiwan on July 18 and 19. The Taiwanese firm has already debuted the ZenFone 4 Max.

In the recent past, the ZenFone 4V was certified by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. It is speculated to be a Verizon exclusive phone in the U.S. It is expected to debut in Europe on Sept. 21. The ZenFone 4 Selfie has appeared on GFXBench in the previous month and it would be arriving as the successor for the original ZenFone Selfie from 2015. The ZenFone is speculated to be available in Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 chipset variants. Since the ZenFone 4 Pro is speculated as the more powerful edition of ZenFone 4, it may come loaded with Snapdragon 835 SoC.

The ASUS ZenFone 4 series smartphones were initially speculated to debut in May. However, their launch has been delayed to the month of August.

The ASUS X00ID was also seen getting certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group on Thursday and was filed along with another ASUS phone with model number ZC554KL. Since the model number is similar to that of the Zenfone 3 Max (ZC553KL), we believe it is the Zenfone 4 Max.

The Zenfone 3 Max launched with a 5.5-inch FHD display, a Snapdragon 430 SoC and 4GB RAM. It also had a 4100mAh battery. This year, the Zenfone 4 Max will feature the same display protected by a 2.5D glass. It will be available with 3GB RAM model, have a 4GB RAM version too and launch with Android 7.1.1.
