Apple Might Unveil its All New AI App Store at the Upcoming WWDC 2024

Apple‘s upcoming developer conference, WWDC 2024, might see the introduction of an AI App Store. This could be a major shift in Apple’s AI strategy. Traditionally, Apple develops its own apps and integrates AI features into its operating systems. However, analyst Ben Reitzes believes Apple might prioritize creating a platform for various AI apps from different developers.

Rumors suggest that Apple has communicated with companies like Google & Baidu

This approach reflects Apple’s past success with app stores like iTunes and the iPhone App Store. Apple convinced other companies to join these platforms while offering their own products as well.

Reitzes predicts Apple will showcase how users can purchase AI apps at WWDC. This new App Store could potentially include Apple’s own AI assistant (an upgraded Siri) alongside offerings from competitors.

Apple

The concept of an AI App Store isn’t entirely new. Other analysts have envisioned a similar model, suggesting Apple might hold internal discussions about it at WWDC.

There’s also speculation that Apple might have spoken with companies like Google and Baidu about adding their AI services to this potential App Store. Google’s Gemini AI, already available through a regular app, could easily fit within an AI-specific store. With WWDC expected in early June, we’ll have to wait and see if Apple unveils this new approach to AI. Stay tuned for future coverage from Gizmochina.

TikTok Announces a Global Youth Council – a Team of 15 Teenagers from Different Countries

TikTok is launching a global Youth Council to improve online safety for teens. This council will work alongside experts to create a safer and more inclusive app. The announcement comes after research showed a need for more open communication between teens and parents about online safety. Only half of UK teens talk to their parents about online platforms monthly, and many avoid uncomfortable topics like body image.

The Youth Council will provide input on the Youth Portal and TikTok Reporting Tools.

The Youth Council will focus on teen well-being and provide input on features like the Youth Portal and reporting tools. TikTok also offers resources like the Safety Center with guides on bullying and body image, viewed by over a million people monthly. To encourage parental involvement, TikTok promotes Family Pairing to new users over 35. Additionally, they will launch over 10 in-app media literacy campaigns throughout 2024.

Tiktok

“Listening to feedback from teens and parents is a huge part of our safety work,” said a TikTok representative. A Youth Council member expressed excitement about creating a safer app and fostering understanding between people.

Experts like Carolyn Bunting from Internet Matters believe the Youth Council’s input is crucial. The research also highlights the need to educate both teens and parents on existing safety tools. TikTok plans to address this through in-app messaging and promoting media literacy initiatives.

Xiaomi Confirms Upper Price Point for SU7 EV as the Car Pops up in Store Displays in China

Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics maker, is getting ready to accept orders for its first electric car, the SU7. The company aims for the SU7 to be the “best looking, easiest to drive and smartest car” at a price below 500,000 yuan ($69,424). There has been a lot of excitement for the SU7 since Xiaomi unveiled it in December. The company has a reputation for good value, and some consumers are worried a high price tag could hurt sales.

The company will start taking orders for the SU7 this Thursday

Xiaomi will officially announce the price range and start taking orders for the SU7 this Thursday. This is the first time Xiaomi has confirmed the upper limit of the price range. Xiaomi stores in China began displaying the car on Monday.

Xiaomi SU7

The SU7 will come in two versions with driving ranges of up to 668km and 800km on a single charge. Tesla’s Model S, for comparison, has a range of up to 650km.

This is part of Xiaomi’s plan to diversify beyond smartphones due to stagnant demand. Xiaomi is one of the few new players to gain approval from Chinese authorities for EV production. Its cars are being produced by a unit of state-owned automaker BAIC Group. A week or so ago, the factory that was manufacturing the SU7 EVs was unveiled, and it got fans excited again. Xiaomi has big shoes to fill, and if there first car turns out to be a big success, it could spell huge things for the company.

OPPO Watch X WeChat Edition to Hit Stores on March 29th, Boasting Built-in WeChat App

Last week, Chinese tech giant Oppo announced its latest smartwatch Watch X in the Chinese market. Now the company has officially announced the sale date for its OPPO Watch X WeChat Edition. The smartwatch, featuring a built-in independent WeChat app, will be available for purchase starting March 29th, 10:00 AM China time.

OPPO Watch X WeChat Edition

For those unfamiliar, WeChat is a super app in China, handling everything from messaging and social media to mobile payments and even fitness tracking. Its integration into the OPPO Watch X WeChat Edition eliminates the need for a smartphone, allowing users to reply to messages (text, voice, or emoji), view pictures, utilize voice-to-text, access recent chats, make WeChat payments, and even sync with WeChat Fitness – all directly from their wrist.

OPPO Watch X WeChat Edition

This development is particularly significant considering the absence of Google’s Wear OS in China. This has led almost all Chinese brands, with a few exceptions, to adopt RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) for their wearables. OPPO uses ColorOS Watch, built upon AOSP (Android Open Source Project), placing the responsibility for the app ecosystem entirely on their shoulders.

With limited app ecosystems on these wearables, the inclusion of the ever-popular WeChat is a major selling point. OPPO has offered standalone WeChat functionality on previous watch models as well. The company has also announced that the independent WeChat app will be available on the OPPO Watch 4 Pro by May 31st.

But the biggest news might be the potential for iPhone compatibility. As reported by ITHome, this could be the first instance of a WeChat app on an Android wearable that connects to iOS devices. It is not officially confirmed though.

Beyond the WeChat integration, the OPPO Watch X itself boasts impressive features. The smartwatch features a circular design with a polished stainless steel case and a 1.43-inch AMOLED display protected by Sapphire Crystal Glass. It runs on a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, utilizing both ColorOS and RTOS operating systems.

The watch offers eSIM support for calls and boasts MIL-STD 810H durability certification and IP68 water resistance. It provides extensive health tracking capabilities including heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen levels, stress tracking, and sleep analysis. With over 100 sports modes and dual-band GPS support, it caters to various fitness needs. The watch offers a battery life of up to 100 hours and is available in Thousands of Sails Blue,” “Desert Silver Moon,” and “Starry Night Flying” colors.

Apple is Secretly Testing a New Apple Pencil for their Vision Pro Headset

It has been merely a few months since Apple launched their new mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro. Rumors suggest Apple is internally testing a new Apple Pencil that works with the headset. This could allow users to draw directly within Vision Pro applications like Freeform and Pixelmator. Read on to find out more.

The new pencil could allow drawing directly within Vision Pro apps

The specifics of how VisionOS, the operating system for Vision Pro, will integrate Apple Pencil support remain unclear. However, one exciting possibility involves using the Pencil to draw on real-world surfaces like desktops and having those drawings appear in real-time within the Vision Pro virtual space, complete with pressure and tilt sensitivity. This essentially transforms your surroundings into a giant canvas for creative expression.

Apple-Vision-Pro

While whispers suggest the new Apple Pencil might be unveiled alongside the upcoming iPad Pro and iPad Air refresh in April, there’s no confirmation yet on its compatibility with VisionOS. Compatibility hinges on a software update as well, and it’s uncertain which version will introduce the feature. The first beta of visionOS 1.2 might be available to developers this week, with visionOS 2 expected to be announced at WWDC in June.

It’s important to note, as with many of Apple’s ongoing projects, even if this Apple Pencil with VisionOS support passes internal testing, there’s no guarantee of a final release. However, the prospect of drawing in mid-air with the Apple Pencil is undoubtedly something special, and future developments are worth keeping an eye on.

Amazfit quietly testing blood pressure monitoring on its smartwatches

Amazfit is testing a new blood pressure measurement tool for the Balance smartwatch! This exciting feature, spotted by users in China, Malaysia, and Brazil, brings blood pressure monitoring to your wrist.

Amazfit Balance smartwatch

Amazfit Testing Blood Pressure Measurement Tool on Balance Smartwatch

While not yet officially announced, the feature seems to be in a limited testing phase. A YouTube video by user @petersoncpxb showcases how it works. Just like with other health metrics on the watch, there’s a dedicated app for blood pressure. Opening the app displays your latest reading with date and time.

Taking a measurement involves tightening the watch band and acknowledging a disclaimer about the watch not being a certified medical device. The process itself takes 30 seconds and requires you to place your arm flat on a table while remaining still. Once finished, the watch displays your systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings, along with your current heart rate. The app also appears to store historical data.

Similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Watch, reports suggest the Amazfit tool might require initial calibration with a traditional blood pressure cuff, with regular sensor recalibration recommended for continued accuracy.

Amazfit unveiled the Balance smartwatch last year in September with extensive health and fitness features powered by AI through Zepp Aura and Zepp Coach. The smartwatch boasts a 1.5-inch AMOLED display, water resistance up to 50m, and a BioTracker for sleep monitoring. It offers meditation and relaxation soundscapes and AI sleep coaching as a paid subscription service. Additionally, it can measure various body metrics and has a battery life of up to 14 days.

Amazfit Balance smartwatch

The exact date for a wider release of this feature to all Amazfit Balance smartwatches remains unknown. This news is exciting as it suggests Amazfit is pushing the boundaries of smartwatch capabilities, potentially offering a convenient way to monitor blood pressure for users in those select regions. We’ll be keeping an eye on further developments and any official announcements from Amazfit regarding a wider rollout.

In addition to the blood pressure feature being tested, Amazfit recently introduced the Body Composition Analyzer Mat. This companion product to the Balance smartwatch uses bioelectrical impedance analysis to give you a more complete picture of your health by focusing on lower body composition metrics.
