This device is the most affordable in the series thanks to certain corners that the company cutting corners to keep its cost low. But one of these areas apparently includes its chipset, which on paper, is the same processor featured on its higher end siblings. So let’s have a look.

Google Pixel 7a reportedly equipped with a custom Tensor G2 SoC

The news arrives from tipster Kamila (@Za_Raczke) who found that the Tensor G2 equipped on the Pixel 7a is a different variant than the base or Pro models. This chip version on the Pixel 7a might be an underpowered variant that might perform slightly worse. Despite carrying the Tensor G2 moniker, it appears that Google has developed a more affordable version of the chipset to further cut down on costs.

For those unaware, Samsung is the manufacturing partner for this chipset and even helped co-develop the original Tensor G2. Thanks to Samsung’s semiconductor expertise, the chip also features its FOPLP-PoP technology. However, the Tensor G2 on the Pixel 7a reportedly features a cheaper and slightly worse IPOP packing. This version is thicker, larger, and even produces more heat compared to the more advanced FOPLP. Unfortunately, we still have no idea what this means in term of actual performance in real world scenarios.

The new Tensor G2 chipset version is likely using this new IPOP package to save costs for Google. Although, this move might costs its users as the Pixel 7a could potentially run marginally slower than the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro and may have heating issues as well. Reddit, the popular social media platform, has been confronted with a new challenge as ransomware gang BlackCat, also known as ALPHV, took responsibility for a targeted phishing scheme that occurred earlier this year. The attack exposed internal documents, code, contracts, and sensitive information belonging to some advertisers, as well as current and former employees. Although the compromised data has not been made public yet, BlackCat has announced that it possesses 80GB of compressed data and is demanding a ransom of $4.5 million from Reddit. Additionally, the gang is insisting that Reddit reverses the recent API price increases that have sparked widespread discontent among users.

The responsibility was claimed at a time when Reddit is already in a state of chaos

BlackCat’s scheme involved tricking employees into visiting a website that closely resembled Reddit’s intranet gateway through plausible-sounding prompts. By stealing login credentials and second-factor tokens from an individual who fell for the trick, the hackers gained access to the sensitive information. Fortunately, Reddit has assured users that their personal data has not been compromised during this breach.

The timing of BlackCat’s announcement is significant, coinciding with widespread protests against the API price hikes that have disrupted the Reddit ecosystem. The increased costs associated with the API changes have led to the closure of popular third-party apps such as Narwhal and Apollo. Christian Selig, the creator of Apollo, estimates that it would cost him $20 million annually to continue operating under the new pricing structure. Developers fear that the loss of these third-party apps may result in increased censorship and limited opportunities for growing ad revenue.

In response to the protests, Reddit’s CEO, Steve Hoffman, has stood firm on the API price increases, arguing that users are unhappy because they are no longer receiving services for free. CYFIRMA Cybersecurity Firm Finds Malicious Android Apps on Google Play Store

CYFIRMA, a cybersecurity firm, has recently uncovered suspicious Android apps on the Google Play Store under the account name “SecurITY Industry.” Upon conducting technical analysis, they found that these apps contained malware characteristics and were associated with the notorious Advanced Persistent Threat Group known as “DoNot,” which had previously targeted individuals in the Kashmir region. Surprisingly, the threat actor has now shifted its focus to individuals in Pakistan, although the motive behind these cyberattacks in the South Asian region remains unknown.

Newer strategies involve texting the victim via Telegram and Whatsapp

The analysis revealed that the attackers aimed to gather information through a stager payload in the initial stage of the attack. This information would then be utilized for a second-stage attack, employing more dangerous malware. CYFIRMA identified three Android apps hosted by the “SecurITY Industry” account on the Google Play Store: Device Basic Plus, nSure Chat, and iKHfaa VPN. Of these, nSure Chat and iKHfaa VPN exhibited malicious characteristics. The threat actor cleverly disguised these apps, using innocent Android libraries to extract contacts and the location of compromised victims. iKHfaa VPN even copied its code from a legitimate VPN service provider and added additional libraries to carry out malicious activities.

Further code analysis conducted by CYFIRMA revealed that the threat actor used AES/CBC/PKCS5PADDING encryption and Proguard obfuscation techniques to conceal the malicious nature of the apps. These findings led to the conclusion that the Google Play store account hosting these apps is connected to the APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) group DoNot. The encryption methods and the use of similar file names as previous Android malware samples linked these apps to DoNot.

The specific victims targeted by this Android malware in Pakistan remain largely unknown. However, based on the malware’s characteristics and access, it can be inferred that the threat actor’s intention is to gather information for future attacks using more advanced malware. Previous tactics employed by DoNot involved spear phishing attacks using malicious Word documents, but this recent shift indicates a strategy centered around luring victims through messaging platforms like Telegram or WhatsApp, ultimately leading them to install the malicious apps from the Google Play Store.

By leveraging the trust users place in the Play Store, these threat actors can greatly increase the chances of successful compromises. The rigorous examination of permissions during the app uploading process on the Play Store makes it uncommon for such malicious apps to bypass security checks.

The iQOO Neo 7 Pro is set to be launched in India on July 4. Over the weekend, tipster Mukul Sharma shared a screenshot showing the upcoming device’s AnTuTu score. The same tipster has now disclosed details regarding its RAM, storage, and color options.

According to Sharma, the iQOO Neo 7 Pro will come in two variants, such as 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. Buyers will be able to choose from color options like Dark Storm (black) and Fearless Flame (orange). iQOO is yet to reveal the black variant of the device. However, the official teasers have revealed that the orange variant has a leather finish on the back.

Recent reports have revealed that the iQOO Neo 7 Pro will have a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen that offers a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device will pack a 5,000mAh battery that supports 120W charging. The Neo 7 Pro will run on Android 13 with a layer of FunTouch OS 13 on top.

iQOO 11S configurations, color options ahead of official announcement

The iQOO 11S is the next major iQOO phone for the Chinese market. Reports have revealed that it will arrive as an improved version of the iQOO 11 5G, which was announced in December 2022. The rumor mill has been consistently leaking new details about the smartphone. In a new Weibo post, leaker Digital Chat Station has revealed that the iQOO 11S will come in as many as four configurations.

Rumors are rife that the iQOO 11S will debut in China by early July. If what the tipster has revealed is true, it will be offered in four combinations of LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, such as 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, 16 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage, and 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage.

The iQOO 11S will offer three color options for consumers to choose from: Legendary version (black), Track version (white), and Qiantang Tingchao, which is a cyan shade. The third color option can be seen in the above image.

Now, as per the latest report, the South Korean technology giant is expected to price the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 foldable smartphone lower than its predecessor, Galaxy Z Fold 4.

According to the report from Revegnus, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to be priced at $1,699, which is $100 less than the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 when the phone was launched. As of now, this is just a rumor so we advise you to take this information with a pinch of salt.

If the leaks are to be believed, then the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will feature a 7.6-inch QHD+ AMOLED primary display and a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED cover display, both screens offering support for a 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the smartphone will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, coupled with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

In the camera department, the phone will have a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto lens in the triple-camera setup at the back. On the front side, there will be a 12MP front-facing snapper, and is also rumored to have a 4MP under-display camera.

The foldable smartphone will run the Android 13 operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own One UI custom user interface on top. The device will be powered by a 4,400mAh battery and come with support for 45W fast charging and 15W wireless charging.

Samsung has confirmed that the company will host its next Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea. While the date has not been announced yet, it is expected to take place towards the end of July, most likely on 27th July. The company is also expected to host a separate launch event in North America for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones.

Two new color variants of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch have been unveiled. The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Golden Bright and Bright Black Edition both feature an AMOLED display. They also support Bluetooth connectivity and come with a sprinkling of health and fitness sensors.

The Golden Bright Edition of the Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch has a rose gold PVD case and crown. On the other hand, the Bright Black variant of the smartwatch sports a titanium case with gold details. The Golden Bright edition has a 42mm dial while the Bright Black version has a 45mm dial. The Connected Calibre E4 Golden Bright Edition is the first in the lineup to have a full golden PVD watch case. It also sports a protective sapphire crystal and a leather strap.

The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre Golden Bright Edition has a 1.28-inch AMOLED display and a 416 x 416 pixels resolution. It comes with a compass, heart rate monitor, barometer, and microphone, among other features. The smartwatch is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chipset.

The Connected Calibre Bright Black Edition has a sandblasted titanium case and golden lacquer coating on the ceramic bezel. It has a combined leather and rubber strap and a 454 x 454 pixels resolution. It has additional Gyroscope and Accelerometer sensors compared to the Golden Bright Edition but omits GNSS. While the Golden Bright Edition supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, the Bright Black variant is compatible with Bluetooth 4.1.

The two smartwatches boast up to 24 hours of battery life and can be fully recharged in 1.5 hours. The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre Golden Bright Edition is already on sale for $2,300. The Bright Black Edition of the smartwatch will go on sale this June for $1,300.

Hisense has launched two sizes of the L9H Laser TV in Europe and Australia. The models are the 100-inch and the 120-inch L9H Laser TV. Both models feature TriChroma laser technology with up to 3,000 ANSI lumens of brightness.

The Hisense L9H was first showcased at CES 2023 and offers up to 107% coverage of the BT 2020 color gamut. This ultra-short throw projectors support Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision HDR. Both models output 4K content and their light source has an expected lifetime of 25,000 hours. Both models also feature the FILMMAKER MODE.

The projectors have an ambient light-rejecting (ALR) screen that enables seamless viewing even in bright conditions. You can also stream videos and cast content from a mobile device. These functionalities are due to the presence of VIDAA U6 and Apple AirPlay/ Anyview Cast.

Wired connection options on the projector include HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.0. Both laser TVs are equipped with 40W speakers that support Dolby Atmos. The new Hisense L9H models also feature ALLM and MEMC motion smoothing technologies.

You can control the Hisense L9H ultra-short throw laser projectors with voice commands. The availability of the model is tied currently to Europe and Australia. However, it is expected that the models will be available in the US by August 2023. The Hisense L9H 100-inch and 120-inch models are priced at €4,990 (~$5,449) and €5,990 (~$6,541) respectively. The corresponding prices in Australia are AU$ 6,499 (~$4,450) and AU$ 7,499 (~$5,135) respectively. It is unclear whether other markets will follow the unveiling of the Hisense L9H Laser TV in the US.
