Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 rumored to feature “folder-shaped” cover display

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 is rumored to feature a “folder-shaped” cover display, according to the tipster, Ice Universe. This new design is expected to cover almost the entire half-shell of the phone, with an irregular edge that creates the shape of a folder.

The cover screen’s irregular shape will provide Samsung with a unique opportunity to create new software features. The phone’s cameras will prevent the cover display from running across the entire area of the half-shell, hence the folder design. However, the bigger size of the cover screen is expected to lend more usability to the device, making it one of the most significant upgrades to the Galaxy Z Flip series. The display may even run apps.

This will be the second time that Samsung has enlarged the Galaxy Z Flip series’ cover display, with the Z Flip 3 featuring a 1.9-inch cover display. The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to have a 3.4-inch panel, which will offer users an extended screen display.

The phone is also rumored to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for Galaxy, 25W wired charging support, and One UI 5.1.1 based on Google’s latest Android 13. It is likely to be launched in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options and come in Beige, Gray, Light Green, and Light Pink hues.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to sport a dual rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. The device is expected to sport the same 10MP selfie camera from the Flip 4. It is also expected to offer iPhone 14 Pro-like AOD functionality that would allow users to customize the display on their handsets.

Galaxy Z Flip 4

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 release date

The phone will succeed last year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and is rumored to launch in late July instead of the usual August schedule. In addition to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5, Samsung is also expected to unveil its Galaxy Tab S9 tablet and Galaxy Watch 6 with a brand-new chip.

Overall, the new “folder-shaped” cover display is a significant upgrade to the Galaxy Z Flip series and is expected to offer an improved extended display and unique software features. It will be interesting to see how the new device compares to its predecessors and other foldable smartphones on the market.

An Ocean-cleaning Robotic Jellyfish is the Latest Invention to Help Our Planet

In today’s world, environmental pollution is a growing concern that is affecting every living organism on the planet. One of the most serious issues is marine litter, which is not only polluting seawater but also posing a grave threat to marine life. But what if we told you that a robotic jellyfish could help solve this problem? Scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Germany have invented a robot jellyfish that can use its flapping power to clean up garbage on the seabed without touching it. The robot jellyfish is about the size of a palm and consists of a series of six actuators filled with artificial muscles called HASEL.

The Jellyfish moves with the help of Electrodes

The artificial muscle is a bag of oil surrounded by electrodes. When the electrodes are energized, they discharge into the surrounding seawater, which pushes the oil in the oil pockets back and forth, causing the robotic jellyfish to create a flapping motion. This movement generates currents around the jellyfish, sucking up small particles from the seabed, which can be used to remove debris from fragile marine environments such as coral reefs.

Robotic Jellyfish

What’s more exciting is that the robot jellyfish mimics the movement of real jellyfish in nature, which flap to catch food and obtain nutrients. Unlike other methods that can harm marine organisms, the robotic jellyfish has almost no noise, coupled with its non-contact method, which ensures no negative impact on the marine environment and organisms. It can also collect some fragile biological samples, such as fish eggs. The robot jellyfish can also perform a grasping motion when two actuators approach each other in a pincer-like gesture. With this ability, two robots can work together to pick up more complex items, such as face masks, from the ocean floor.

The only limitation of the current robot jellyfish is that it needs to be connected to a wire for power supply. But scientists are working on solving this problem, and they have installed batteries and wireless communication devices on a sample and let it swim freely in a pond on the Max Planck campus in Stuttgart. In the next step, they plan to add the function to change direction.

Microsoft Teams Crosses the 300 Million User Milestone

In the latest news from the tech world, Microsoft has announced that its collaboration platform, Teams, has achieved a new milestone by surpassing 300 million monthly active users. The announcement was made by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during the company’s FY2023 Q3 earnings call yesterday. This significant achievement demonstrates the continued growth and popularity of Teams, which has been a crucial tool for businesses and individuals worldwide throughout the pandemic. As Nadella pointed out, Teams usage is at an all-time high, and the platform has managed to take share across every category, including collaboration, chat, meetings, and calling.

Microsoft has Integrated Generative AI with Teams

The news comes just after reports emerged that Microsoft was considering unbundling Teams from its Office productivity suite in Europe to avoid an antitrust probe. While the company has stated that it is open to “pragmatic solutions” to address the concerns of EU authorities, it remains to be seen what steps Microsoft will take to navigate the situation. Nonetheless, Microsoft is showing no signs of slowing down, with a new version of the Windows desktop client that offers faster performance set to be released later this year. Teams will also soon receive new generative AI features with the Microsoft 365 Copilot, which will be integrated with the rest of its Office productivity suite.

Microsoft Teams

While Teams Premium already offers AI-powered features such as intelligent recaps, the addition of Copilot is sure to elevate Teams to a new level of sophistication. Nadella noted that thousands of paid customers have already signed up for Teams Premium, which speaks to the growing demand for advanced collaboration tools. As the world continues to adapt to the new normal of remote work and hybrid work environments, Teams is well-positioned to be a leading platform for communication and collaboration. The milestone of 300 million monthly active users is undoubtedly impressive, and it will be exciting to see how Teams evolves and improves in the coming months and years.

Engineer Combines ChatGPT with Robot Dog, Spot for Enhanced Communication

In a world where artificial intelligence and robots are becoming increasingly prevalent, it’s always exciting to see how engineers are pushing the boundaries and finding new ways to make these machines even more useful. And that’s exactly what Santiago has done by combining ChatGPT with Boston Dynamics’ robot dog, Spot. At first glance, the idea of a robot dog communicating with humans using an AI model may seem like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. However, the innovation is actually designed to make robot dogs even more efficient in performing complex tasks.

Spot can answer Queries in real time using ChatGPT

So, how does it work? Well, ChatGPT is a powerful AI model developed by OpenAI that can generate coherent and meaningful text based on user input. Santiago has integrated Google’s text-to-speech technology to allow users to ask Spot questions by voice, and Spot can answer in real-time using ChatGPT. The result is a robot dog that can interpret questions, parse documents, and formulate answers.

ChatGPT

In a video posted by Santiago, we see Spot answering questions about its battery level, mission details, and more. And what’s even more adorable is that Spot can even indicate a yes-no answer by nodding or shaking its head, which gives it an extra touch of cuteness.

But why did Santiago undertake this project? According to IT Home, the robot dogs run automated tasks every day, and each task uses a long and difficult-to-understand configuration file that only a technician can understand. Additionally, after each mission, the robot dog collects a lot of data, but there’s no easy way to query all that data at any time. This is where ChatGPT comes into play, making it easier to understand the configuration files and query the data.

Of course, some people might be nervous about integrating AI into robots. The idea of robots communicating with humans using an AI model might conjure up images of a dystopian future where robots have turned on their creators. But for now, it’s all about making the work of those using robot dogs more efficient.

AOC AGON Pro AG276QZD pricing & availability

Starting in June, AOC plans to launch the AGON Pro AG276QZD in the Eurozone with a price tag of €999. However, the brand has not yet disclosed the monitor’s pricing and availability information for other regions. Check out the specs and features of the monitor.

AOC AGON Pro AG276QZD specs & features

AOC has recently revealed the specifications and features of their upcoming gaming monitor, the AGON Pro AG276QZD. This monitor boasts a 26.5-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It also delivers an impressive peak brightness of 1,000 nits, which should ensure a high-quality viewing experience.

While the monitor can output at a high brightness level, it may be limited to 150 nits in SDR mode due to its reliance on an LG Display panel. However, AOC has built the AGON Pro AG276QZD with an external power supply, which should help to dissipate excess heat from the panel and improve its lifespan.

The monitor’s 0.03 ms response time is aided by both AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC support. Additionally, AOC claims that the monitor provides 98.5% DCI-P3 color space coverage and a 240 Hz native refresh rate, which should result in a smooth and vibrant gaming experience.

However, the AGON Pro AG276QZD’s port selection is limited to HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4, which may limit the refresh rate to 144 Hz at 1440p over HDMI. To achieve 240 Hz gaming at 1440p, DisplayPort 1.4 connections are required. The monitor also features two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a USB Type-B upstream connection.

Palantir’s GPT-4-Based AI Can Plan War & Defense Strategies

Palantir is a software company founded in 2003, and its software is designed to analyze, integrate and visualize large amounts of data, making it useful for various industries such as finance, healthcare, and government. Palantir’s clients include intelligence agencies, law enforcement agencies, and the military. The company is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and has additional offices around the world. Palantir has been the subject of controversy due to its involvement with government agencies, particularly its work with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in domestic surveillance.

Palantir’s AI Platform can Suggest Tactical Responses to Battlefield Scenarios

Palantir’s latest offering, the Palantir Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP), is making inroads into the Pentagon, providing a potential technological edge on the battlefield. The company’s AIP is a language model integration system that leverages large language models like OpenAI‘s GPT-4 or Google’s BERT to analyze and parse both classified and non-classified data. The AIP’s capabilities were showcased in a demo where a military operator tasked with monitoring the Eastern European theater discovered enemy forces massing near the border. The system quickly analyzed the situation and suggested tactical responses to the perceived aggression.

Despite the impressive demonstration, Palantir acknowledges the need to control the use of LLMs (Large Language Models) and algorithms in sensitive contexts, such as those encountered in military operations. The AIP operation is based on three key pillars: deploying across a classified system, providing users with the ability to toggle the scope and actions of every LLM, and having industry-leading guardrails in place to prevent the system from taking unauthorized actions. The demo however did not elaborate on the steps being taken to prevent the LLMs that the system relies on from “hallucinating”, or making up pertinent facts and details, which raises concerns about the effectiveness and reliability of the technology.

While the AIP’s capabilities could provide significant advantages on the battlefield, it is imperative that the use of such technology is regulated and controlled in a legal and ethical way. Despite the potential benefits, the consequences of any unauthorized actions taken by the system could be severe. Therefore, Palantir and other companies developing similar technology must prioritize ethical considerations and ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent misuse.

Microsoft Phone Link Now Available on iOS Devices

An app that helps you sync everything between your phone and the Windows operating system can be a game changer. It allows users to access their phone’s contents, such as photos, messages, and notifications, directly from their computer, which can be convenient and time-saving. Secondly, it enables you to seamlessly transfer files and data between your phone and computer, which is essential if you work on multiple devices and need to keep everything in sync. Thirdly, it allows one to stay connected even when they’re away from their phone, which is especially important if people rely on their phone for work or other important communications.

The Phone Link app allows users to Sync Calls, Messages & Contacts

Microsoft has recently expanded its Phone Link app to include iOS support for Windows 11 users. The software, which was previously only available on Android devices since 2015, allows users to sync calls, messages, and contacts to their PC. While this feature was initially tested in late February and has now been released to the wider user base, there are still limitations. For instance, the app doesn’t allow the transfer of images and videos from a Windows machine, and group messaging isn’t supported.

Microsoft

Despite these limitations, Phone Link offers a great integration option for iPhone-carrying Windows users who may not be familiar with alternatives like Unison and AirDroid. To link your devices together, simply type “Phone Link” into Windows 11’s search bar, and you will be able to check if you have access to the feature or not. It is also worth noting that Microsoft expects to roll out iOS support to all Windows 11 users by mid-May.
