Vivo is gearing up to bring several new smartphones to the Indian market. This includes the premium V27 series, which was recently listed on Flipkart. The company is also working on a new mid-ranger called Vivo Y56 with a Dimensity 700 processor and a large display. Ahead of an official announcement, a report has revealed the smartphone’s pricing and launch date for the Indian market. In addition, some live images and specs have also been shared. Here are the details.

The Tech outlook, citing tipster Paras Guglani, claims that Vivo Y56 will be unveiled in India on February 15 with a price tag of Rs. 18,999. The smartphone may silently debut in the offline market since there has been no launch announcement yet.

Further, the leaked live image of the handset shows it with a very familiar design— something we’ve seen on a sizeable number of smartphones launching recently. There’s a flat back with dual rings that house two cameras. The upper part of the smartphone has a shiny finish. We can see the device has flat sides and a waterdrop notch on the front.

The Vivo Y56 is tipped to sport a 6.58-inch display with HD+ resolution. It will get a 50MP primary and 2MP depth sensor on the back. The front may house a 16MP shooter for selfies and video calls. Powering the smartphone could be a Dimensity 700 processor paired with 4/8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

On the software front, it will run Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13. It will likely be offered in two color variants – Orange Shimmer and Black Engine. The handset will pack a 5000 mAh battery with support for 18W charging.

Segway has announced its Navimow series of robotic lawnmowers in the UK. The new models come with an optional VisionFence sensor for improved location accuracy and mowing intelligence. The Segway Navimow robotic lawn mower is a perfect gadget for mowing on a non-industrial scale.

The new Segway Navimow series come with upgraded obstacle avoidance and the Exact Fusion Locating System (EFLS). The EFLS works like GPS, and with the VisionFence addition, VisionFence can identify and avoid multiple objects. It can identify and take action when it gets to lawn edges, moving objects, and small animals.

VisionFence is an optional sensor that can be fitted on the top of the mower without any modifications Navimow was originally unveiled in May 2022. It was priced in Europe at €1,199 ($1,275). The addition of the VisionFence sensor is a great innovation by Segway.

The Segway Navimow robotic lawn mowers are now orderable in the UK. The VisionFence sensor will ship in March 2023 at £269.99 ($326). However, anyone buying the VisionFence together with a Navimow model will pay £169.99 ($205) for the sensor.

The Segway Navimow series are priced in the UK between £1,299 ($1,5770) and £2,299 ($2,778). There are no details yet on other key specs of the Segway Navimow series. Parameters like their runtime, charging time, noise level, and power are lacking. Segway’s plans for scaling the Navimow with VisionFence sensor to other markets haven’t been stated.

For photography, the handset may get a triple camera unit with an OIS-enabled 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP macro sensor. The front may house a 13MP shooter for selfies. The Samsung smartphone is claimed to have Wi-Fi 6 support and an IP67 rating. Powered by a 5000mAh battery unit, the device may support 25W charging.

Huawei Shifts Gears to Combat US Sanctions: Focus on 5G Powered Digital Infrastructure

Huawei seems to have shifted its focus from the smartphone industry to 5G powered infrastructure. The technology giant is banking on its 5G telecommunication-powered Tianjin Smart Port to circumvent the US sanctions and run its business.

According to Huawei, Tianjin Smart Port is a one of its kind port that uses the latest tech including intelligent twins, autonomous driving, 5G, cloud computing, and IoT to create a better connected, smarter, and autonomous port management system. The underlying architecture of this smart port, intelligently connects the various port systems, eliminating data and information silos. All applications work together, powered by the ‘Smart Hub’, which centrally manages operations.

Tianjin Port is one of the world’s seven largest ports, with an annual container throughput of 20 million TEU and 20,000 employees. The port is a zero-carbon smart terminal situated in Northern China on the shore of the Bohai sea.

As the port went digital, it saved millions in manual operation costs and also improved its operational efficiency. The smart port helped to reduce the overall cost by 30%. Moreover going green also helped in reducing the overall energy consumption by 17% as now the port produces its own renewable energy which supplements the traditional power sources.

After digitization, the port needs 60% fewer staff than before, and controls and operates devices like quay cranes, gantry cranes, stackers, and forklifts remotely from a command center nestled miles away from the bay. This means workers, especially drivers, don’t have to face dangerous and unhealthy working conditions.

Yang Rong, General Manager of Tianjin Port Second Container Terminal Co said that Huawei used a wealth of new ICTs to create Intelligent Horizontal Transportation Management System and a next-gen “intelligent port brain”. The system collaborates with key resources to automatically generate optimal loading and unloading plans. It also manages each piece of equipment, optimizing the entire dispatch process.

He further added that the horizontal shoreline terminal has the largest driverless fleet made of 76 vehicles. The smart port can move 36 20-foot boxes (TEUs) per hour, much faster than any other manual port.

Tianjin Smart Port is Huawei’s latest achievement and a masterpiece that the company proudly flaunts to the world. After the crushing sanctions by the US, that destroyed Huawei’s smartphone ambitions, the company is now planning to come back in power using its 5G technology.

Huawei is promoting its 5 G-enabled digital services and planning to bring automation and smart solutions to China’s infrastructure like coal mines, ports, and hospitals.

Bruce Xun, CEO of Huawei Global Customs & Port Business stated that Tianjin Port is truly a global one, trading with over 800 ports and 200 countries worldwide. He further added that the company is going to support the next phase of its digitalization, which will help the port become even greener, smarter, and more secure.

While experts are quite positive about Huawei’s future moves including its 5G technology, they believe that the push to digitalization is not going to result in a transformative change. The 5G revolution will help Huawei to generate rapid business in the next 5 to 10 years. But for now, the ongoing US sanctions remain the biggest threat for the company, especially for products that require advanced computing power like smartphones, servers, and car components.

He highlighted that Xiaomi’s complete control over Xiaomi Auto is a result of utilizing the resources available across the entire company. The firm’s wide number of offline stores in China greatly contribute to the marketing of Xiaomi Auto.

The executive admits that Xiaomi is around 6-7 years behind the competition in China and plans to bring its first car by 2024. Lei Jun emphasized that Xiaomi’s strong background in software and user experience will allow it to quickly narrow down the gap in the auto industry. According to him, the software component of the development process has become more crucial recently.

Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G Receives MIUI 14 Update in India

Back in January, Xiaomi began to roll out MIUI 14 update for the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G. It was initially available for the EEA variant of the smartphone. Now, a month later, the update is live for the Indian version as well.

The latest software update for the handset is based on Android 13. Thus, the device has received two of the three promised Android updates.

According to Xiaomiui, the MIUI 14 update for the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G in India arrives with build number V14.0.3.0.TKOINXM. The system update is being pushed to users via OTA.

Like any other software update, it is being rolled out in batches. Therefore, it is currently limited to a select few users. Anyway, all units shall get access to the update in the coming days.

The Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G was released in the second half of 2021. It debuted with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11. The phone was later updated to Android 12-based MIUI 13 in the first quarter of 2022.

As per Xiaomi’s official update policy, the product will receive one more Android update (Android 14) and security updates until 2025. The next major update will likely roll out in 2024 or late 2023 at the earliest.

The Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G’s hardware is more than enough for the next few years. It offers a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, a 6.55-inch 10-bit FHD+ 90Hz AMOLED display, a 4,250mAh battery, 33W fast wired charging support, and more.

The product is affordable and easy to use, giving users a convenient way to monitor their blood pressure at home.

The MIJIA Smart Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor comes with a clip-on cuff that is easy to attach to the arm. MediaTek has announced a new entry-level chipset. It is the MediaTek Helio G36. The latest processor from the Taiwanese semiconductor company is the successor to the Helio G35. The new Helio G36 is said to power budget gaming phones in India. It has an 100MHz slower clock speed than the Helio G37 but apart from that there are no major differences. The MediaTek Helio G36 is based on TSMC’s 12nm process. It has eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. There is an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU onboard. The chipset has MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite gaming technologies. The Resource Management Engine 2.0 ensures sustained performance with dynamic management of GPU, CPU, and memory whereas the Networking Engine 2.0 enables faster response and better connectivity for uninterrupted services.

The MediaTek Helio G36 supports FHD+ displays with a 90Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and gaming. It supports dual cameras of two 13MP lenses or up to 50MP single sensors along with hardware-based imaging features like bokeh effects, MEMA 3DNR, multi-frame noise reduction, and more. The system-on-chip will enable devices to shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.

On the connectivity front, the MediaTek Helio G36 has dual 4G VoLTE support along with integrated dual-band WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, Galileo, GLONASS, and GPS.

Since the Helio G36 is an entry-level chipset, we can expect it to power phones under Rs 10,000 price bracket. We should know more details soon about the chipset’s availability and the smartphone brands that utilise it.

Vivo is teasing the V27 series with the hashtag #TheSpotlightPhone. The microsite shows the smartphone with curved edges and a rectangular camera module housing three vertically stacked sensors and an LED ring light. It seems that the Vivo V27 series will debut as the rebranded Vivo S16 lineup which was announced in China last month.

We should learn more official details about the Vivo V27 series in the coming days.

The Vivo V27 series has appeared in various leaks and rumours in the past. The lineup is expected to comprise a V27e, V27, and V27 Pro. The regular and Pro models will arrive as the successors to the V25 and 25 Pro. As per various reports, the Vivo V27e is tipped to be powered by Helio G99 whereas the regular variant is expected to be equipped with an unannounced Dimensity SoC probably the Dimensity 7200. On the other hand, the Google Play Console listing of the V27 Pro mentioned that it will come with a Dimensity 8200.

Since the Vivo V27 series will arrive as the rebadged version of the S16 series in China, we can expect the devices to pack the same specifications albeit a few differences.

Vivo has recently debuted the Y100 5G midrange smartphone in India. The device targets the sub-₹25,000 segment and features a Dimensity 900 chipset. Now, the brand is planning to launch a budget-range 5G smartphone in India called the Vivo Y56.

The company is yet to reveal anything regarding the device, however, tipster Paras Guglani has come through with some juicy leaks about the Y56 5G. According to a now-deleted Tweet by Paras (via), the Y56 5G will feature a MediaTek Dimensity chipset. This is an entry-level 5G chipset by MediaTek that has an octa-core processor and 2200 MHz frequency.

According to Guglani, the Y56 5G will feature 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It will be powered by a large 5000mAh battery and will support 18W fast charging. As for the camera, the Y56 5G will sport a dual-camera setup on the back. An image shared by Guglani reveals two circular camera cutouts accompanied by an LED flash. The phone will feature a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP secondary camera. The front-facing camera will have a 5MP resolution.

In another tweet, the design of the device has been leaked via a poster. The Y56 5G will have a flat frame design and the volume rocker is visible on the right side of the phone. It is expected to have the power button located below the volume rocker. The device will launch in a gold color option, with the possibility of additional color options being offered by Vivo.

The phone will have a 6.56-inch display with a waterdrop notch for the front camera and an HD+ screen resolution. It will have a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Although Android 13 has been available for some time, the Y56 5G is expected to launch with Android 12 and will likely run Funtouch OS 12 as its custom user interface.

Good news for OnePlus fans! As per reports, the highly popular OnePlus Ace 2 is selling like hotcakes and is temporarily out of stock on some e-commerce platforms. New research from the University of Edinburgh and Trinity College Dublin highlights a concerning issue with some of the leading Chinese Android smartphones. In China, which is the largest smartphone market globally, over 70% of devices run on Android. The study found that certain brands, such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Oppo Realme, collect and transmit large amounts of personal data without user consent.

The phones in question come pre-installed with a significant number of system and vendor apps that have questionable privileges enabled by default. These applications actively collect and send sensitive information related to the device, location, user profile, and even social relationships. Even for privacy-conscious users who opt out of analytics and don’t use cloud storage or third-party services, the phones still send unique information about the device and the user, such as device identifiers, GPS coordinates, app usage patterns, call and SMS history, and contact numbers. Unfortunately, users are not notified about this data transmission, and there is no way to opt out. The collected data can easily be linked back to the individual and used for tracking purposes.

The research was conducted on devices sold in China and running local Android distributions, so international consumers may not be affected. However, for those who purchased their devices in China, such as business travelers or students, it’s important to be aware that the study found the data collection practices remain unchanged even after leaving the country.

It’s worth noting that the Chinese versions have way more pre-installed third-party apps and are granted eight to ten times more permissions compared to international versions intended for consumers in Europe and other regions. A lot of it might have to do with international regulations and policies that gatekeep these dangerous permissions, but phones purchased in China are definitely clear of those laws.
