OnePlus rolls out survey for OxygenOS, after ColorOS merger gets canceled

Following the OnePlus and Oppo merger, the former’s OxygenOS custom skin was set to also merge with the latter’s ColorOS skin. However, following backlash from OnePlus’ userbase, this move was called off. And now, the brand has rolled out a new survey, which seeks to improve the OxygenOS experience.

OnePlus

Looking at the survey, the Chinese brand is clearly stating that the OxygenOS 13 will be a collaboration between the OnePlus community and Google. The survey asks certain questions like the worst and best features one has experienced and even wants you to rank the factors that affect their experience with an OS. This includes factors like multicultural inclusiveness, intuitive operation, feature rich, close to native, and more.

As per official notes, the feedback taken by the company will apparently help improve the OxygenOS platform. The brand is likely placing a key focus on user experience this time around, especially after its last iteration (OxygenOS 12) that had delivered one of the most bug ridden experience out of any OxygenSO build so far. Interestingly, Oppo has also recently announced a survey of its own for its ColorOS platform as well. Oddly enough, it features the same carbon copy questions of the OnePlus survey.

OnePlus

In other words, it is also seeking to improve its ColorOS experience for its userbase. But while OnePlus is calling it the OxygenOS User Experience Survey, Oppo calls it the 2022 ColorOS Fans Test. It seems that both brands are racing ahead to both offer a unique and solid software experience as well as distance themselves from one another.

Apple will not be using the 4nm processing tech in the A16 chip, TSMC’s roadmap confirms

TSMC’s 4nm process is the talk of the town these days. Leading brands like MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Samsung have already adopted this process to manufacture their latest chips. It was expected that Apple would also join the party and switch to the new 4nm process for its upcoming A16 chip, however, to our disappointment, the company will likely continue to use TSMC’s 5nm process.

TSMC’s Roadmap, as brought to light by reputable Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, reveals that the A16 SoC for this year’s iPhones will only use the 5nm process. This news coincides with a recent claim made by the leaker ShrimpApplePro who said that instead of the 4nm process, the new A16 chip will benefit from an upgraded CPU and GPU and faster LPDDR5 RAM

iPhone 14 Pro

Both Shrimp and Kuo indicate that the 4nm process isn’t significantly better than the 5nm approach, and any improvements would be marginal. However, this claim appears to be contradictory because Qualcomm‘s most recent flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, is said to have benefited from TSMC’s 4nm technology.

Using the same fabrication level often limits the generation’s potential performance and power efficiency advancements. However, the A15 chip still provided 10% performance and efficiency improvements over the A14 processor despite using the same 5nm technology. So, it is likely that the upcoming A16 chip will provide more power and efficiency than its predecessor.

It is worth mentioning that the A16 chip will only be present in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro max versions, and the rest two models will carry the same chip as the previous year’s iPhone 13 models.

It was recently reported that Apple is running behind schedule with its upcoming iPhone 14 series. One of the models (Likely the iPhone 14 Max) is said to be facing a 3 weeks delay. It is still expected that the company will unveil its latest smartphones in September.

Android 12 update goes live for the Xiaomi 12X

Android 12 has now been here for quite a long time and its iteration is also coming soon. While the majority of the eligible smartphones have already received the Android 12 software update, there are still some devices that haven’t got the taste of the latest firmware yet. Xiaomi 12X is one such device, but that changes now, as the Chinese company has now rolled out the Android 12 update Globally for Xiaomi 12X.

Xiaomi 12X debuted back in March alongside the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro. Though the two flagships landed with MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box, the affordable Xiaomi 12X wasn’t so lucky and arrived with Android 11. For some reason, the global variant that was launched months after the initial Chinese release also came pre-installed with Android 11. But anyways, the company has finally released the Android 12 update for the Xiaomi 12X

Xiaomi 12X All Colors

As initially spotted by the folks at Xiaomiui, the build number for the latest Android 12 update is V13.0.1.0.SLDMIXM. The update comes packed in 3.1GB of data so you might want to connect to the Wi-Fi if your carrier deal isn’t data-heavy.

Android 12 update available for Oneplus 5, 5T via LineageOS 19

Oneplus ended the software support for the Oneplus 5 and the Oneplus 5T in late 2020. The last official system update for the handsets brought September 2020 security patches and some fixes for the buggy Android 10 update that was rolled out earlier that year.

OnePlus 5T
Oneplus 5T

Two years after the last official Android update, users of Oneplus 5 and Oneplus 5T can still experience the current latest version of Android, thanks to the newly released Android 12-based LineageOS 19 custom ROM.

Third-party software is not meant for everyone. Because users have to deal with the installation process, which can be confusing for most.

But if you are one of those who are used to custom ROMs, you should probably install the official LineageOS 19 ROM on your Oneplus 5 or Oneplus 5T to bring a new life into them.

These devices were launched in 2017. So most likely they are sitting idle or being used as a secondary smartphone. Hence, they can be a perfect opportunity for the users to try custom ROM for the first time since there won’t be any harm if anything goes wrong.

The Oneplus 5 and the Oneplus 5T hit the markets with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. They received three official Android updates throughout their lifetime — Android 8.1 Oreo, Android 9.0 Pie, and Android 10.

The device also leaked in renders exposing its design. Now, the phone has arrived on Geekbench revealing its chipset.

Per the listing on Lenovo’s website, the Moto G42 is codenamed HawaiiPlusOLED22. This suggests that it could sport an OLED display like the Moto G52 but it’s not known whether the panel will support a high refresh rate.

Possible Google Pixel Tablet gets USI Certification, may carry Stylus Support

Google IO 2022 was full of surprises because the company teased some unexpected devices such as the Pixel 7 and even a new Pixel Tablet. The Tablet made an incredibly brief appearance confirming that the tech giant is working on a new slate. But there’s still a year to the launch and not many details about the device are out. However, a recent report by NuGiz hints that the new Pixel tablet may carry support for Stylus.

As per the report, a Google tablet with the codename “Tangor” has been spotted on Universal Stylus Initiative’s (USI) website. The listing did not reveal any specifications of the tablet but it signals that the upcoming device will support a stylus.

Google Pixel Tablet

For the unversed, USI is a non-profit group of companies that standardizes how active interoperable styluses should work. The group aims to make it easier to have cross-compatibility with other devices, meaning a single, active stylus capable of operating with all the devices.

Google joined the USI back in 2018, However, it is only now that a device bearing Google’s branding has been certified by the group. In fact, the Pixel tablet could be the first Android tablet to even get the USI seal of approval.

Of course, this is just a small piece of information and we still don’t know how Google will implement the stylus in the upcoming tablet. If the new Pixel tablet is indeed going to come with a stylus, then it will be interesting to see how the stylus will charge. Notably, USI standard recently added NFC as a wireless charging method. So, Google might just go for that.

Considering that the Pixel Tablet is still an year away from the official launch, it would be unwise to comment on the specifications of the product. Though we expect to see more leaks and rumors about the device in the coming months.

The laptop is also expected to be thinner and lighter, and may even launch in color options similar to the 24 inch iMac, which is available in blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange, and purple color options. It is even rumored to offer an off white bezel and a matching off white keyboard, which is a major shift away from its typical black keyboards.

There are conflicting reports about the processor that will power the upcoming MacBook Air laptop. While it should be the M2 processor, as some reports have claimed is the case, there are a few reports that indicate Apple opting to use the old M1 chip for the new MacBook Air because of the supply chain issues.
