HiSilicon’s Kirin 920 costs 100 RMB (16.02 USD) in Taobao

2edda3cc7cd98d10299768d3233fb80e7aec9094

A lot of internet users are already used to shopping online and their first choice is always Taobao with their good prices and such. Recently, as people talked about HiSilicon’s new 64-bit computer chip, the chip suddenly appeared in Taobao.

Based on reports, a store called Xinshui Telecommunications is currently releasing HiSilicon’s newest chipset, the Kirin 920.

The chip might be designed as an octa-core chip. It also hasn’t really been confirmed if the 99.99 RMB chip in the photo is really the new HiSilicon chip because based on the photo, the Kirin 920 uses a 1.3GHz quad-core design and doesn’t mention being 64-bit. Could this be fake? Hopefully, HiSilicon will surprise us.

Faster than Snapdragon 805, Huawei‘s octa-core SoC Kirin 920 review

A launch even was held today in Beijing for the long-reviled Huawei HiSilicon Chipsets which revealed its newest flagship processor, the Kirin 920/92x.

The Kirin 920/92x series is Huawei’s newest ARM-based SoC. An important project for Huawei, the company has invested so much hard work on it. As early as two years ago, Ren Zhengfei said that Huawei wants to dominate the computer chipset market by investing “400 million and 20,000 people,” that HiSilicon is a “vital system” for Huawei and a long-term strategic resource for the company, and that it will definitely rise and remove China’s dependence on American chipset manufacturers. Even though Huawei already worked on making computer chips before, they experienced problems such as poor technology and received lots of criticism. Their products were considered poorly developed. Besides the lack of innovation, Huawei’s previous chipsets suffered from poor performance, compatibility problems, and overheating.

But we believe that there’s hope for this company and the release of the Kirin 920 is their best shot at showing what they are capable of.

Pros

The Kirin 920/92x was designed using 28nm technology and the big.Little configuration. It has four Cortex-A15 cores and four Cortex-A7 cores which balances out the need to conserve power with the need to improve performance. The Kirin 920’s GPU is the Mali T628, the strongest GPU to date, and it supports 2500×1600 resolution. Nothing else needs to be said about the graphics performance. For the frequency band, it can support LTE Cat 6 specifications and even roaming. It also supports 4G voice-over functions like SGLTE/CSFB and VoLTE. It uses a framework that catches up to Qualcomm’s RF360 front-end solution.

The Kirin 920 has hit back on HiSilicon’s criticsby scoring close to nearly 40,000 points on the Antutu benchmark test, already surpassing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 series mainly due to its four Cortex-A15 cores. Although it’s not part of the new Cortex-A5X core, a single core is already very powerful by itself and has surpassed expectations. The Kirin 920 also uses the big.Little configuration which can, based on the performance needs, transfer the software’s loading to the right CPU, thus, saving 70% or more power. When the chip loads, it can reduce energy by 50%. At the same time, a powerful core can still provide peak performance. Based on the need for a strong chip, it makes sense to the use the A15 and A17, which can balance power and performance as much as possible.

As for the internet, the Kirin 920 creates a worldwide base band and supports a global frequency range, especially one that falls under Cat-6 specifications. This has been the result of Huawei’s many years of experience in the telecommunication business. It has went ahead of the current king of computer processors, QualComm, which will only be able to use this kind of technology next year when they release the Snapdragon 810.

Another advantage of the Kirin 920 is that it saves 220m㎡ of cellphone space. According to tests, this space shield be good for using a 300mAh battery.

Cons

Although the Kirin 920 has been an exciting improvement for Huwei’s chipsets and that it marks one step forward for the industry in China, it’s still too early for Huawei to celebrate.

Benchmark test scores are not the same as practical experience. Although 28nm is small, it is still far away from surpassing its rivals, Samsung, Qualcomm, and Intel. Next year, Samsung will release a chipset that uses 14nm architecture.

Furthermore, many have doubts about the use of A15 and A17 cores. After all, most chipsets these days use A5X cores. It is important for Huawei to consider whether the use of the A15+A17 framework is a bit outdated.

The writer was really surprised after analyzing the Kirin 920 and can feel how much hard work Huawei put into it through so many years of criticism and doubts. I can also feel the rise of the Chinese semiconductor industry and hope that Huawei, like Mediatek, can break Qualcomm’s hold on the market, even though this a very difficult industry. It has faced problems experienced by its rivals like Nvidia but we are looking forward to the Kirin 920’s release. The courage to create the best product in the world is always admirable. Of course, it’s still too early for Huawei to claim victory. Although the Kirin 920 is currently number one in China and can compete in the overseas market, rivals like Qualcomm have already finished improvements on their new products. The Snapdragon 810 computer chip which is set to come out next year will surely heat things up. The 64-bit chip will surely dominate the charts with better performance, and a more powerful frequency range. These are all things Huawei should strive for. So, it’s still too early to call Huawei the best, but we’re looking forward to seeing what they can do.

The OnePlus Invites are beginning from today, You may be the lucky to get one

oneplus 1.1OnePlus is sending invites to buy their cellphones, the OnePlus One. Some devices have already reached to the winners of contest. These lucky winners were able to buy the handset of 16GB model, at the price of $1. The interest of the public was more than expected. This interest of buyers made OnePlus to shift their production to 64GB model first. The enthusiasts are getting their invites in the emails. The campaign has the logo of “it is raning invites”. If you have got one of such invites then you are eligible to buy 64GB model at $349.99.

The invites emails has a unique URL to buy the phone. You need to register a OnePlus account the link of which is also provided in the email, too. It is expected if you have received an invite you may have already registered a OnePlus account. In that case, you don’t have to worry about this step.

The OnePlus has unfortunately received uncalledfor delays in shipment. That is why they have stated in separate email that they can’t say for sure how long the shipment process will take time. The email also states that they buyers can put their orders and once the mobile is ready they will be shipped to them. Similarly, another option has been given that states that buyers may have to wait until they will be confirmed when their handsets are ready for shipment through email. The shipment delay is such a thing which no company or the buyers want, for this reason they have mentioned that as it was the first batch that is why delay happened, and this will not be the case in the future.

Huawei new chip Kirin 920 claims to outclass Snapdragon 805

Huawei is not a popular name in the west, but this notion is changing with the HiSilicon chips churned out by Huawei. These chips have been used in the devices like Ascend P6 and Ascend P7. The processors used have been Cortex-A9 which deliver the performance that we expected years earlier. In fact, this is all to keep the cost low, but now Huawei is ready to change that with their newest chips they announced. The Kirin 920 is the name of chip. The company is making flaunting claims about their latest chip.

The new chip Kirin 920 is a System-on-Chip that is made around 8-core CPU that utilizes LITTLE blue print from ARM. It pairs four low-power Cortex A7 cores that reaches the speed of 1.6Ghz and pairs four high-power cortex A15 cores that reaches the speed up to 2.0 Ghz. Huawei claims these new chips will outclass the Snapdragon 805, which will be confirmed as the chips will be available. The chip named kirin 920 has a Mali-T628 GPU, which is going to give good graphics and gaming experience. It also supports LTE Cat 6 and VoLTE. With all these specs, Huawei has accumulated a lot of respect but we’ll have to wait to see whether it can outsmart the Snapdragon 805 or not.

The Huawei claim is proven right or not, the new followship will help them stand against the likes of HTC and Samsung. The other Chinese manufacturers bank on MediaTek for their devices but the Huawei relies on its own chips which is a laudable thing. MediaTek on the other hand refuses to go beyond Android 4.2.2. The new device will hopefully reach new markets around the world, without old Android version and with good performance overall.

An Review on the Samsung Tizen Z

21327ba33b3689e713cdff1641128004_w_680_h_425

Samsung has recently released the Tizen system’s first machine Samsung Z. Just from looking at the outward appearance, it looks just like one of the Sony Z series. The series is just too similar looking and makes it difficult to create any interest. Tizen was created by “Samsung’s own R&D System” which makes Tizen more unattractive. “Independent research and development system,” such words are almost too standard and not very powerful and this does not mean that the phone is worth a new purchase.

There are many twists and turns created by the Tizen systems with Samsung releasing a major significance. After long research and development, Tizen can be subjected finally have a carrier, which is its upcoming third birthday best gift. Andrews and a bunch just to do a skin on the dare-called “self-developed” systems differ, Tizen is definitely worthy of the “independent research” the words. Although Tizen and Andrews are the same as the Linux kernel, but it’s much more complicated life experience.

Tizen is made up of a combination of MeeGo and LiMo, but also incorporates some of the Bada technology. Nokia Maemo MeeGo and Intel’s Moblin project’s is a perfect fit because of three reasons: the Nokia N9 is quite well known and with Nokia’s decline and slowly dying trend and now with the resurrection Jolla. LiMo is a product of the Open Systems Alliance created in 2008 and many of these are supported by the manufacturers. However, only a few of several products will actually get produced and placed on the market. The Samsung Bada is a true independent research. Between 2010 to 2011 there have been several good phones, but most of the markets reaction has been very bleak and unimpressed.

Can it be said that this is a step toward the Tizen project’s corpse rising from the grave after having the years of accumulated experience of countless failures? Today, Samsung is no longer that brother behind Nokia. Intel today is not simply just in the desktop market, regardless of the mobile field proud giants. Can such combinations be successful?

The obvious answer is no.

5b708c065dfab38528050a84d852bf13_mw_680_wm_0_wmp_3

Today’s mobile phone industry is no longer the same as that of Nokia which has just fallen from its peak. Such reasons exist for this such as Apple’s iOS and iPhone with its high-end market occupation and Google with Android manufacturers to quickly seize the leadership of the low-end market. Also, with Microsoft’s own Windows Phone taking their own piece of the market there is very little place where Tizen can prove itself and strive.

So, Samsung is not sure why we must still fight this fierce battle when there is very low chances of winning? Obviously, the reason is not because is it is not just about winning or losing spirit, but for other intentions. Samsung must find out the problem that they want to solve. What are the core strengths of Samsung mobile phones?

One answer could be the hardware configuration. The answer is probably marketing efforts, but in my opinion these are not the essence, the core strengths of Samsung mobile phones is Samsung’s long-term accumulation. Recalling the development process of the mobile phone industry, it is not difficult to find that as early as the phone market began Nokia and MOTO ‘s domination of the mobile phone market was fairly clear. Samsung has been ranked the top three and has never fallen from that position. After the MOTO error and Nokia’s first error it was the first time to seize the opportunity to take some of market and exploit the error’s mistake.

Not only that, Sony, LG and other manufacturers have paid insufficient attention to the market’s changes. Samsung have long discovered the importance of the market, so the channel development and brand image has been quite successful. The mobile phone industry era has passed a long time, but Samsung nationwide coverage has been very important for the manufacturer. They looked into expanding their market to rural communities as a way to increase sales, which channeled into high profits for Samsung.

It is important to note that as a company that started out by creating hardware Samsung can independently produce four pieces of the smartphone: the CPU, the screen, the memory and the flash memory. This helps to reduce the cost of the Samsung phones and also provides consumers with a very low range which is quite appealing. Naturally, you can expect to see good profits return for the company.

Samsung has had many excellent opportunities in the building and branding out over the market with its strong R & D and manufacturing capabilities. Samsung has been quite successful these past few years. They have accumulated a great number of loyal consumers.

The purpose of Samsung’s Tizen phone has made quite clear. We have mentioned that this is an era of mobile Internet. Internet content and services companies can rely on earnings, (earnings are the key importance for phone companies in this premise), but the hardware does not make money and/or tends to lose money for the company. This is acceptable for phone companies whereas hardware companies have to rely on profits from selling their hardware.

If Samsung wants to go further, they must do some big changes in future competition. However, this change will not be easy to achieve, they must do some accumulation of changes. Samsung sees the Tizen phone as a accumulation of changes. They developed a new system that can help Samsung to interact (a more in-depth understanding of the knowledge UI) and build content ecosystem (so all aspects of software development run smoothly). Samsung also helps to accumulate some patents and cultivate some excellent engineers to help build their necessary projects. These are very useful for the future of Samsung’s transformation, but also fully in line with Samsung’s “technology and talent-based” business philosophy.

New Oppo Phablet is on the way, the leaked photos show

oppo phablet

Staged leaks are the best type of leaks as we get to know more about the products being leaked. On the other hand, random leaks by a kid roaming in a store doesn’t give much detail about the product (in our case a mobile phone). The recent apparently a stage by Oppo show photos of their new LTE phablet. This phablet is supposedly be announced on 10th June in LTE Conference. As Oppo is busy in rolling out Oppo N1 Mini and R6007 LTE, it is likely they may be working on other phone to fulfill the demand of consumers of large phones. According to the picture the device is of good size, as apparent from the picture, the guy holding the phone with phone near his ear. The phone is wider than the ear. Similarly, the picture tells that the pocket of guy’s jeans is of just the right size.

The most prominent thing in the picture (although the pictures are blurry) is the styling of the phone. It is one such aspect which is not emphasized by Oppo much. The leaked phone has dual tone styling that makes it look like a bigger version of iPhone 5S. Similar is the camera which is placed near the top of the phone in middle. The dual tone styling of white and silver makes it different from its cousins Oppo N1, Find 5 or Find 7, which sport one color designing. The photos shows that the body of the phone is made up of metal, which is in high demand now a day. Guesses about the dimension of the phone shows that it is somewhat 5.5 to 6 inches. It is more probable as the Find 7 has 5.5 inch and N1 is 5.9 inches. We don’t have to wait much as the announcement date is approaching.
