Xiaomi is expected to release MIUI 13 in August. Ahead of it, the company has been updating its devices to MIUI 12.5. The latest handsets to receive this update are Mi 11 Lite 4G and Mi 8 Lite. Both these smartphones are a watered-down version of the flagship Mi 11 and the Mi 8 series respectively.

The Mi 11 Lite 4G was unveiled in late March with MIUI 12 based on Android 11. The phone is being gradually introduced in markets around the world. It launched in India this week.

Three months after its announcement, the ‘Global’ variant of the handset has started receiving the MIUI 12.5 update with build number V12.5.3.0.RKQMIXM. Unsurprisingly, the software build is in the ‘Stable Beta’ phase. In simpler words, the update is being pushed in batches.

On the other hand, the Mi 8 Lite is a fairly old device. It launched in 2018 with MIUI 9 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. So far, it has received MIUI 10, MIUI 11, and MIUI 12 updates, in addition to Android 9.0 Pie and Android 10.

Now, Xiaomi has started rolling out the MIUI 12.5 update for this phone. The update is currently live in China with build number V12.5.1.0.QDTCNXM. It is being seeded out in batches.

The latest system update for both these smartphones should reach the other regional variants in the coming days. Last but not least, this should be the last-ever major update for the Mi 8 Lite. It will not receive MIUI 13 update like the Mi 11 Lite 4G.

Xiaomi has been updating its smartphones to MIUI 12, the latest version of its Android-based mobile operating system worldwide. These devices have been getting the update first in China, followed by the global rollout. As the Mi 8 Lite and Mi Note 3 got the MIUI 12 update last month, they have now begun to receive it globally as well.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is from 2017, whereas the Mi 8 Lite debuted in 2018. However, both of them launched with MIUI 9 out of the box but with Android Nougat and Android Ore respectively. 

They have received two Android as well as  MIUI updates each and are currently running MIUI 11 based on Android Pie and Android 10 respectively. MIUI 12, which has now begun to roll out to these handsets is expected to be their last major software update.

That said, the MIUI 12 update for Mi Note 3 comes with build number V12.0.1.0.PCHMIXM. On the other hand, the build for Mi 8 comes with version V12.0.3.0.QDTMIXM. They are currently being rolled out in batches and should reach all the units if the early adopters don’t face any major issues.

It is good to see Xiaomi providing updates to its older mid-range smartphones. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for its most recent devices as the company’s software rollout has degraded over the years.

Xiaomi has been continuously rolling out MIUI 12 update to eligible devices for months. Last week, the company began to seed out MIUI 12 stable update for its 2018 flagship, Mi 8 in China. Now, Mi 8 Lite, the toned-down version of this handset is getting a similar treatment.

Just like most Xiaomi/Redmi handsets, the MIUI 12 stable update for Mi 8 Lite comes with build number V12.0.1.0.QDTCNXM (via PiunikaWeb). Also, like other phones, the update is being rolled out in batches and therefore, it will take time to reach every unit.

As for features, since the device sports an LCD panel, it misses out on new AOD+ and Super Wallpapers. But it gets all other important goodies like Dark Mode 2.0, new Control Center, granular permissions, new animations, and more.

This smartphone was also made available in international markets like Europe upon release. But the MIUI 12 stable update rollout for the global variant is yet to begin. Similar story for the Mi 8 as well. Also, the latter will mostly get the update first in global markets like in China.

Further, since POCO F1 was launched around the same time as these two phones, we think it will be soon getting the MIUI 12 update as well.

Every Android OEM is supposed to make the kernel source code of their device public. With new Android updates, the code is tweaked to support the latest software and the device’s hardware. So when the company rolls out a new Android update, it is mandatory for them to share the updated kernel source code. That’s what Xiaomi has done for Mi 8 SE, Mi 9SE, Mi 8 Lite, Mi 9 Lite, and Mi Max 3.

Xiaomi recently updated the above-listed handsets to Android 10 and since these devices use the same family of Qualcomm chipsets, their updated kernel source code was released together.

For instance, the Mi 8 SE, Mi 9 SE, and Mi 9 Lite are powered by Snapdragon 700 series, Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 712 to be exact. Hence, Xiaomi has unified the Android 10 kernel source code of these three handsets. The Mi CC9 Meitu Edition, which is the original Mi 9 Lite also shares the same source tree.

On the other hand, Mi 8 Lite and Mi Max 3 feature the same Snapdragon 660 chipset. Therefore, kernel source code for their Android update have been unified now.

Kernel source code plays an important role in the development of custom ROMs. Since Xiaomi has been releasing them in a timely manner (now), its devices are the most popular in the developer community.

Xiaomi has consistently been pushing the latest MIUI 11 update to its smartphone models. In a surprise twist, Xiaomi seems to have pushed MIUI 11 beta update to the Mi 8 Lite and it is based on Android 10.

The Mi 8 Lite could be regarded as an old smartphone, launched in September 2018 running Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10. The phone soon got updated to MIUI 10.2 which ushered in Android 9 in February this year. This new update was spotted by Piunikaweb and it is for the  Chinese Beta ROM. However, its appearance is an indication that Xiaomi is likely working to bring Android 10-based builds of MIUI 11 to the phone but we can’t say if it will affect the Global Stable branch. There is even a link to download the update file but since it is the Chinese Beta build, you won’t get Google Play Store onboard.

Just a week after it was announced that Mi MIX 3’s Super night Scene mode will hit the Mi 8 SE later this month, Xiaomi has announced that it will also come to the Mi 8 Lite. At this rate, Xiaomi’s Super Night Scene mode may become a standard feature for most of its phones henceforth.

The Mi 8 Lite is the least powerful model in the Mi 8 series and according to Xiaomi’s co-founder Wang Chuan, he is working overtime to bring the Mi MIX 3’s Super Night Scene algorithm to the Mi 8 Lite.

The super night scene mode which is similar to the Pixel 3’s Night Sight greatly enhances photos taken in low-light or at night. There is no info yet on when the feature will roll out to the device but we expect it to come after that of the Mi 8 SE.

The Lenovo Z5s will likely not come with a Snapdragon 678 because there isn’t such a processor in existence. That Lenovo Z5s poster from yesterday was just misinterpreted and a new poster seems to clarify that.

Earlier today, the manufacturer released a poster that teased Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Lite for its choice of processor. The poster was actually shared first on Weibo by Lenovo’s CEO before it was reposted by the official Weibo account with a caption that teases the Mi 8 Lite for having a Snapdragon 600 series processor.

If Lenovo is teasing the Mi 8 Lite for having a Snapdragon 600 series SoC, that means it isn’t using a 600 series chipset in the Z5s which the Snapdragon 678, assuming it even exists, falls under.

We re-examined the poster that originally said the phone will have a Snapdragon 678 processor and what we deduce is that Lenovo is teasing the phone will come with a processor that belongs to the 600, 700, or 800 series, hence 678.

There are rumors the chipset in the phone is actually the Snapdragon 710 like the Lenovo Z5 Pro but there is no confirmation yet. Other confirmed features of the phone are triple rear cameras and Android Pie pre-installed.

Lenovo also released a few more posters and camera samples of the phone which is scheduled to launch on December 18 at the Lenovo Global Headquarters in Beijing.

Three months back, Xiaomi announced the Mi 8 Lite aka the Mi 8 Youth Edition in China with Android Oreo. Now the handset is getting Android P soon as Xiaomi released a beta for the handset on its forums today. Currently, Xiaomi is seeding Android Pie to its Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition as well, as we found out last week. Moreover, the Mi MIX 2s and the POCO F1 were also treated with high priority with regards to Android Pie. Since the beta has kicked off, we will probably see a stable Android Pie version for the handset soon.

It is to be noted that beta versions usually have unaddressed bugs and issues that not all users are very comfortable with. So, if you’re more of a stable ROM user, you should stay away from this particular beta. Also, there are no details regarding the features of the new beta version right now. However, we will update readers as soon as there’s more info on it.

The Mi 8 Lite/Youth Edition was the first Xiaomi smartphone with a cool gradient color design. It has a stunning mirror effect glass on the back similar to the Huawei P20 with Twilight Gold and Dream Blue flavors. Xiaomi is globetrotting and launching new phones and products in every country it is visiting. Last week it officially entered into the UK market, where it launched the Mi 8 Pro, Redmi 6A, and the Mi Scooter among others. Yesterday, it was the turn of Egypt and it announced the Mi 8 Pro and the Mi 8 Lite.

The Mi 8 Pro shares the same specs as the regular Mi 8 but has an in-display fingerprint scanner instead of a rear-mounted one. The version sold in Egypt has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and is priced at EGP 9,999.

The Mi 8 Lite is the least powerful model in the Mi 8 series. It is powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor and comes in 4GB RAM + 64GB and 6GB RAM + 128GB variants. The 4GB model is priced at EGP 4,666 while the 6GB RAM version will sell for EGP 5,444.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and Mi 8 Pro are the first phone from the company to sell in color gradient versions. Xiaomi scored big in the just concluded 11-11 Singles Sales, recording a total of 5.75 billion Yuan in sales. Just a few hours after that announcement, the manufacturer has released a new poster for a phone launching tomorrow.

The poster shows a train and has some text which when translated includes the words “Youth” and “Tomorrow”. It doesn’t say much but comments on the Weibo post hint at a new phone targeted at the younger generation.

Some say it is a new variant (color/RAM + storage) of the Mi 8 Lite while others think it may be a Lite version of the Mi MIX 3, probably a Snapdragon 710-powered version that can take on the Lenovo Z5 Pro.

Xiaomi has been busy expanding its operations globally and is now present in 82 countries outside its home market. Now, the company is all set to launch in the UK and will launch its own store in London as well as it partnered with telecom operator Three UK to sell its phones. In the UK, Xiaomi will offer its products with a contract through a carrier as well as offer SIM-free products.

Mobile operator Three has confirmed that Xiaomi devices will be sold online and in its 327 high-street stores from Friday 9 November. Xiaomi products will be available for purchase in the UK soon after the launch at 2 PM on 8th November through Mi Store and Xiaomi’s online store in the UK.

Now, a new image posted by the Chinese company reveals that Xiaomi is holding a launch event in the UK on 8th November. The image teases a smartphone having an in-display fingerprint sensor and an infinity symbol which could also be interpreted as “8”. This hints that the company is planning to launch the Mi 8 Pro in the UK. Along with the Mi 8 Pro, we also expect the company to launch a few other smartphones, including the Lite variant of the Mi 8.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro features a 6.21-inch Super AMOLED display having 2248 x 1080 pixels screen resolution with a notch on top. In terms of camera, there are dual 12MP sensors on the back with OIS and optical zoom. On the front side, there’s a 20MP f/2.0 camera sensor housed inside the notch.

The major feature on the Pro variant is that it comes with an under-display fingerprint sensor, which brings convenience for the users to unlock the device. The device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 processor and comes in 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

However, Xiaomi did not confirm on the pricing of the Mi 8 Lite for these markets. Popular tipster Roland Quandt has shared key information on the pricing of the smartphone for the European markets.

According to Quandt, the Mi 8 Lite would be available in some European countries such as Germany, Czech Republic and Austria in the next few days. Depending on the country, the handset may arrive in 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage or 4 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variant. These models are expected to be respectively priced at 279 euros (~$318) and 319 euros (~$363).

Apart from Europe, the Mi 8 Lite is also expected to release in other global markets. The Mi 8 Lite smartphone features a 6.26-inch notched display that produces Full HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The Snapdragon 660 chipset is present under the hood of the device.

For capturing selfies, the Mi 8 Lite has a frontal shooter of 24-megapixel. The back panel of the phone is fitted with 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera system. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi last month announced the Mi 8 Lite in China as a trimmed down version of the flagship Mi 8 Pro. The company later hinted that the device will roll out for the global market beginning with Ukraine. However, Xiaomi’s global spokesperson, Donovan Sung has revealed on Twitter that the device is now available in Ukraine and France. He also revealed that the Mi 8 Lite will be made available soon in other of Xiaomi’s global markets.

Despite falling into the midrange category, the Mi 8 Lite has flagship looks, sporting a premium glass back design. The device is available in Twilight Gold, Deep Space Gray and Dream Blue colour variants. All three use the gradient colour hue and that makes the Mi 8 Lite the first Xiaomi phone to utilise the Gradient Hue. The Mi 8 Lite sports a notch at the top of its display which houses a 24MP camera with AI capabilities for selfies and video calls. The device equally features a massive 6.26-inch FHD+ display in a 19:9 aspect ratio which ensures it fits the palm of most persons well and won’t look too bulky.

At the rear, there is a dual camera sensor stacked vertically at the upper left corner. The dual camera setup comprises a 12MP main sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor with an LED flash at the side. The device equally packs a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor at the upper middle aspect. At its heart is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. The device comes in 4GB+64GB, 6GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB memory versions. It runs Android Oreo-based MIUI 10 out of the box and gets its juice from a 3,350mAh battery.

Xiaomi didn’t announce the pricing of the device in Ukraine or France. However, the pricing in China starts at 1399 yuan (~$200) for the 4GB +64GB memory version. The 6GB RAM + 64GB storage is priced at 1,699 Yuan ($248) and the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model costs 1,999 Yuan ($292). The global market may likely get it at slightly higher prices. Online retailers like GearBest and others already stock the device at slightly higher price tags.

The Mi 8 Lite launched last month alongside the Mi 8 Pro in three color variants and 2 RAM variants (4GB and 6GB). A new TENAA listing has revealed we may be getting a new color variant and an 8GB RAM model soon.

The new variant’s model number is M1808D2TT, similar to the original whose model number is M1808D2TE. It has the same specs, so you get a 6.26-inch FHD+ LCD display, a Snapdragon 660 processor, dual rear cameras, a 24MP selfie camera, and 3250mAh (3350mAh) battery capacity.

However, the images for this listing are of a black variant of the phone with a pink/ twilight orange frame and accents around the dual rear cameras and the fingerprint sensor.

We have no idea when this new color variant will be announced. However, we’ll advise not to get your hopes high. The images from the first TENAA listing of the device are of a white variant but Xiaomi didn’t unveil that color at the launch. According to both TENAA listings, the Mi 8 Lite should be available in at least 8 different colors including red, silver, rose gold, green, red, and pink.

When the Mi 8 Lite was released last month, Xiaomi‘s spokesman confirmed it would get a global release. The global launch starts this week and Europe is the first port of call.

Xiaomi’s spokesman, Donovan Sung, has revealed in a tweet that the Mi 8 Lite will be launching first in Ukraine. The launch will take place on Wednesday, October 17 in the capital city of Kiev at 1900 hrs local time.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has a 6.26-inch 1080 x 2280 screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage.

Just like the other phones in the  Mi 8 series, it has dual rear cameras although its primary camera is a 12MP sensor and there is a 5MP camera depth sensor. The front-facing camera which resides within the notch is a 24MP sensor.

The Mi 8 Lite doesn’t have the IR face unlock of the Mi 8 and Mi 8 Pro or the 3D face unlock of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. However, it does come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. It has a 3350mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 and runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

The Mi 8 Lite is also expected to launch in Taiwan soon.

After launching the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite smartphone in the previous month in China, the Chinese manufacturer had hinted the global release of the smartphone. Recent reports claim that the company is prepping up to launch the Mi 8 Lite phone in Taiwan. It is likely to hit the country during the Single’s Day 11.11 (Nov. 11) sales period.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite also known as Mi 8 Youth Edition is one of the first Xiaomi phones to sport gradient colors such as Twilight Gold and Dream Blue. It is also available in Deep Space Gray color in the home market.

The Mi 8 lite features a 6.26-inch IPS LCD notched screen that offers a screen-to-body ratio of slightly over 82 percent. It produces Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels and aspect ratio of 19:9. The Snapdragon 660 chipset is the driving force of the smartphone.

The Mi 8 Lite has a front-facing camera of 24-megapixel. The back panel of the phone is fitted with 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup. The handset is loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo and the latest version of MIUI. It receives power to perform from a 3,350mAh battery that carries support for Quick Charge 3.0 through USB-C port.

The base model of the phone features 64 GB of storage + 4 GB RAM. The other variants of the phone are 64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. These models are respectively priced at 1,399 Yuan (~$202), 1,699 Yuan (~$245) and 1,999 Yuan (~$289).

Xiaomi Taiwan is yet to confirm the launch of the Mi 8 Lite in the country. If the smartphone is really launching in the coming month in Taiwan, the company may release its teasers in the near future.

Earlier today, Xiaomi announced two new phones – the Mi 8 Lite and the Mi 8 Pro. The Mi 8 Lite is the least powerful model in the Mi 8 series and also the cheapest. For those wondering if it will be available outside China, we are happy to tell you it will.

Xiaomi’s global spokesperson, Donovan Sung, took to Twitter a short while ago to post unboxing photos of the Mi 8 Lite. The unboxing photos are for all the color variants and reveal they will all come with the same Twilight Gold box. But that isn’t all the tweet contained.

Mr. Sung also revealed that the Mi 8 Lite will be launching soon across the globe. Yes, this stunning phone will not be a China-exclusive device though there is no info on which countries will be getting it yet. Once we get our hands on that, we’ll let you know.

Although Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed yet, there is a Mi 8 Pro heading for markets outside China. This device was seen at Singapore’s agency a few weeks ago and it has the same transparent back as the Mi 8 Pro that launched today and the Mi 8 Explorer.  It also has a smaller notch compared to the Mi 8 Explorer which means it should be the same device as the Mi 8 Pro. However, the TENAA listing for the phone lists a smaller 2900mAh battery as against the Mi 8 Pro’s 3400mAh battery. We presume this may be an error on TENAA’s part.

As expected, Xiaomi today unveiled its latest smartphone — Mi 8 Lite. The company has opted for the all-glass body for the smartphone with 2.5D curved glass, which gives it a more premium feel.

Further, Xiaomi says that the Mi 8 Lite has a unique mirror effect which is derived through the use of “mirror nano vacuum sputtering” technology, through the nano-sputtering of 2.5D glass in a vacuum environment.

Xiaomi says that the design for the Mi 8 Lite is inspired by the works of French Impressionist Oscar-Claude Monet. For the first time, Xioami has introduced gradient color options for its smartphone.

It comes in two gradient colors — Dream Blue and Twilight Gold. There’s also the standard solid Deep Gray color variant with the same mirror-like effect.

Xiaomi, which started the trend of “Youth Edition” phones, believes that it’s competitors have also started following the same. At the launch event, the company compared the Mi 8 Lite with the recently launched iPhone XR, which Xiaomi says is the “Youth Edition” of iPhone.

The Chinese firm showcased that the Mi 8 Lite, which measures 7.5mm in thickness, is slimmer than the iPhone XR, Oppo R17, Vivo X23, and Huawei P20. It also doubled-down on its comparison with iPhone XR, showcasing the difference between bezels of both the phones as well as the size of the notch on top of the display.

The phone features dual-camera setup on the back, featuring 12MP – 5MP sensors with an LED flash, arranged horizontally and placed in the top-left corner. In the top-center position, there’s a fingerprint sensor for added security. Moving towards the bottom, there’s a “Mi” branding.

The volume rocker and power button are placed on the right side. On the bottom, there’s a USB Type-C port for charging as well as a speaker grille.

The front side of the phone is dominated by the 6.26-inch tall display, which has Full HD+ screen resolution with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The notch on top of the display houses the AI-backed 24MP camera for taking selfies and video calling.

The Mi 8 Lite is powered by Snapdragon 660 AIE processor, coupled with either 4GB or 6GB RAM. There’s 64GB/128GB internal storage. Running on Android Oreo-based MIUI, the phone is powered by a 3,350mAh battery.

At a press conference in China, Xiaomi has today announced a new smartphone — Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, which is the watered-down variant of the company’s flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi 8 launched a few months ago.

The Mi 8 Lite features a 6.26-inch Full HD+ display having a screen resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio, and a notch on top of the display. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 AIE octa-core processor, coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. The chipset is manufactured using an advanced 14nm FinFET process.

The phone comes in three variants based on memory configuration — 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.

Coming to the camera, there’s a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with Sony IMX576 sensor and f/2.2 aperture. It also has support for artificial intelligence-based features. It comes with a new generation of AI Smart Beauty technology, which the company is calling AI Makeup Beauty. It also supports AI Beauty feature for video recording as well.

On the back side, there’s AI-based dual-camera setup arranged horizontally. It consists of a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with f/1.9 aperture. The camera also supports adjustable blurring intensity for the background. It comes with AI Scene Recognition feature and the company has added two new AI Scenes – Beach and Sea Bottom.

The glass-bodied smartphone has a unique mirror effect applied using the mirror nano-dip plating process similar to that of Huawei P20, giving it a more premium look. During the launch event, Xiaomi compared the phone with the recently launched iPhone XR, suggesting that the Mi 8 Lite has a slimmer, has minimal bezels, and has a smaller notch on top of the display.

It has the standard set of connectivity options, including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS. Running on Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box, with the company’s own MIUI custom interface on top, the smartphone is powered by a 3,350mAh battery with support for fast charging technology.

Tomorrow is a big day for Xiaomi.  The Chinese phone manufacturer will launch at least two new phones, one of them being the Mi 8 Lite formerly referred to as the Mi 8 Youth. Xiaomi shared a camera sample of the phone and the watermark reveals its official name as the Mi 8 Lite.

The photo is a night shot of the Central Radio and TV Tower in Beijing and it shows off the Mi 8 Lite’s low-light performance. Although there is a bit of noise, overall the picture doesn’t look bad. The watermark on the photo reveals the phone has AI dual cameras. Both cameras are said to be 12MP sensors.

The Mi 8 Lite will come with a 6.26-inch FHD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor with multiple RAM and storage variants.
