The rollout has 11 devices in total and is scheduled to end in Q3 2020. However, there are a number of devices missing from the list. A few days ago, Realme confirmed those phones will not be getting the update.

Apparently, there is a petition for Realme to release ColorOS 7 for the Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme C1, and Realme U1 seeing as they are missing from the rollout schedule. In response to a tweet urging the manufacturer to update the devices, the official Twitter account for Realme India Support replied the aforementioned phones will not get the ColorOS 7 update based on Android 10.

Hi Partha,
We would like to inform you that ColorOS 7 based on Android 10 update will not be rolled out for realme 1/ realme U1/ realme C1/ realme 2.

— realme India Support (@realmecareIN) November 29, 2019

That response will surely break the hearts of owners of these devices considering the fact that all four phones were released last year.

In our opinion, we wish Realme adopted Xiaomi‘s style of updating its devices whereby older devices get new features but still stay on their current Android version.

It is no surprise that Realme has left out some devices judging from its large portfolio in about 18 months. This is bound to happen when a manufacturer keeps churning out phones. Realme is not the only manufacturer guilty of this and that isn’t to say there aren’t manufacturers with fewer products who do not abandon devices after they have been released.

Nevertheless, we believe owners of these devices will keep clamoring for an update and may be lucky enough to get Realme to change their stance.

Today, the company has confirmed through its official forums site that it will be releasing the Android 9 Pie update in June for its smartphones.

In April, the company will be releasing the April 2019 Android security patch for three smartphone such as Realme 1, Realme U1 and Realme 3. In May, the May 2019 Android security patch will be rolled out for phones like Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro and Realme C1.

In June, Realme will be releasing the ColorOS 6 based Android 9 Pie OS for multiple smartphones for Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme C1, Realme 2 Pro and Realme U1. It hasn’t exactly mentioned the order of releasing Pie update for these phones. Also, there is no exact timeline mentioned, but the company promises to release the updates as stated in the forums thread.

Since it is a staged rollout, the aforementioned Realme phones are unlikely to receive the update on the very first day or simultaneously. The company will be releasing the update when it is completely sure they are free from major bugs. It will be posting respective OTA threads with the links to manually download the firmware when they are available.

It is the new low-end handset from Oppo’s new sub-brand focused on affordable phones, and it comes with better memory configurations compared to the original C1 released in 2018. But besides this new device that just debuted in the Indian peninsula, there are some more interesting entry-level phones sold at ridiculous prices that may intrigue you: the Honor Play 8A and the Xiaomi Redmi 6A. They are among the most important entry-level phones in the last months and here we will compare them with the new Realme C1 in order to establish whether or not Oppo’s sub-brand did a better job.

Design

The design I personally like more is the one of the Honor Play 8A. It is cleaner on both the rear and the front side, with a very small waterdrop notch and very narrow bezels around the display. It is a feature that is mostly present on high-end devices and not entry-level ones. Realme C1 2019 has very thin bezels as well, but I like the Honor Play 8A more because of its smaller notch. I do not like the Xiaomi Redmi 6A at all because of its thick bezels, but note that it comes with a more compact and lightweight body. So it will fit better in pockets and it is also easier to use with one hand.

Display

All the displays of these handsets are sufficient IPS panels, but their resolution is only HD, so do not expect a huge level of detail. My favorite display is the one of the Realme C1 2019 because it is slightly wider and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, so it is harder to crack and scratch. But when it comes to viewing quality, I cannot find noticeable differences between all the displays of these phones. So we suggest you choose only by basing on the dimensions and the build quality. In case you hate notches, note that Xiaomi Redmi 6A is notchless.

Specs & Software

Under this point of view, the chipset makes the difference. And the most powerful chipset is the one found on the Honor Play 8A. The new entry-level phone from Huawei’s sub-brand is one of the very first to be equipped with a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, that is more or less at the same level as the Snapdragon 632 by Qualcomm. Unlike its rivals, this device also comes with up to 64 GB of internal storage and it supports a dedicated micro SD slot, so you do not have to renounce to the dual SIM functionality in order to expand the internal storage. The second place when it comes to hardware and performances goes to the Realme C1 2019 and its Snapdragon 450 chipset. Honor Play 8A is the only device to run Android 9 Pie out of the box, while its opponents are still based on Android Oreo, even though Realme C1 was released months after.

Camera

Honor Play 8A features a much better rear camera than Realme C1 2019 and Xiaomi Redmi 6A. Realme C1 2019 should be only better at calculating depth info with its secondary sensor, but Honor Play 8A shots brighter and more detailed photos. Even the front camera, with its 8 MP resolution, is a lot better on the Honor Play 8A. The worst camera phone is the Xiaomi Redmi 6A, but it still delivers a sufficient camera quality if we consider that it is an entry-level phone sold for less than €100.

Battery

Realme C1 2019 is one of the best phones in the whole market for battery life. It has a huge 4230 mAh battery and its hardware components are not energy-demanding. The HD display and the Snapdragon 450 chipset are very efficient and do not require a lot of energy even for the most demanding tasks. Realme C1 wins the battery comparison, while between Honor Play 8A and Xiaomi Redmi 6A there are just marginal differences in battery life, in every scenario.

Price

Realme C1 is definitely a great experiment. I would personally pick it from this trio because it has a much longer battery life, a better build quality, and decent performances. But I think that the Honor Play 8A would be better for a lot of people due to its better camera capabilities and its higher performances. If you care more about camera and performances, go for the Honor Play 8A, but if you want above-average battery life, that I define the most important thing for entry-level phones, choose the Realme C1 (2019). Honor Play 8A costs about €100/$115, Realme C1 debuted in India with a price tag slightly superior to €90/$102 and Xiaomi Redmi 6A costs about €90/$102.

The handset is packed with “mega battery, mega screen and mega storage” claims the teaser. While the rumor mill has been speculating that it could be the Realme A1 smartphone, an Indian publication has learnt from Realme that the upcoming entertainment-focused will be a new variant of the Realme C1 smartphone.

The Realme C1 smartphone that was announced in September is packed with modest specs. It comes with a 6.2-inch IPS LCD display. The notched screen produces HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The rear panel of the Realme C1 is made from glass.

The Snapdragon 450 chipset powers the phone with 2 GB of RAM. It comes with 16 GB of internal storage. The Android 8.1 Oreo OS is preinstalled on the device along with ColorOS 5.1. It comes with a microSD card slot for additional storage. The handset receives power from 4,230mAh battery. For photography, the Realme C1 features 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera setup and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone was introduced with a price tag of Rs. 6,999. In November, its price was hiked to Rs. 7,999. Currently, the Realme C1 is selling with a price tag of Rs. 7,499.

Probably, the company could be gearing up to launch a variant with Realme C1 with better specifications. The company is expected to launch the Realme 3 smartphone in the first quarter of this year. Recent rumors had suggested that the company would be releasing a smartphone with 48-megapixel camera. Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth has confirmed that the company will be not launching such a phone with higher megapixel camera. Instead, it will focus on improving the camera experience through software optimization.

Design

It is very rare that a Vivo handset comes with an ugly design: in the last years, the company managed to release incredibly beautiful and innovative devices. Vivo Y91 wins the design comparison with its very high screen-to-body ratio, its waterdrop notch and its gradient colors that you can see on the back cover. It is also the only device of this trio to feature a fingerprint reader, that is placed on the back side of the phone. But some may like the Honor Play 8A more due to its cleaner design and an even smaller notch, but it comes with slightly thicker bezels. Realme C1 is nothing so exciting with its plastic body and its pretty big notch, but it seems to have better build quality.

Display

Oppo Realme C1, Vivo Y91, and Honor Play 8A are all equipped with low-end HD displays, so do not expect a huge image quality. You will not see a noticeable difference in both level of detail and color reproduction, so you can choose by basing on your tastes. Note that Honor Play 8A has a slightly smaller screen that is more comfortable to use with one hand, while Realme C1 has the Gorilla Glass 3 protection that should make it more sturdy.

Specs & Software

Even though it is more affordable than Vivo Y91, the Honor Play 8A is equipped with the most powerful chipset, so it is the handset that will provide the best performance. It comes with the new Helio P35 by Mediatek which can be compared with the Snapdragon 632 by Qualcomm, 3 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of internal storage that you can furtherly expand with a micro SD. Vivo Y91 and Realme C1 come with low-end Snapdragon 400 series chipsets that can not compete with the Helio P35.

Camera

Despite not being a dual camera setup, I liked a lot the rear camera of the Honor Play 8A because of the high detail captured and decent performance in low light, that is the weakest point of mobile phones, especially entry-level ones. But Vivo Y91 has a better selfie camera and it is also better at capturing depth info thanks to its secondary sensor. Realme C1 has a rear module with similar performances to Vivo Y91, but the front camera is inferior.

Battery

If you want the longest battery life, you should go either for the Vivo Y91 or the Realme C1. The former as a slightly smaller battery but a more efficient chipset, while the latter has a bigger one but an older 14 nm chipset that has a higher consumption. But more or less, they have similar battery life and it is incredibly long given that they have HD+ displays and low-end specs. Honor Play 8A has a much smaller battery so it is not able to compete with these devices and it can last about one day with slightly above-average battery life in every scenario.

Price

In our opinion, Vivo Y91 is slightly better than Honor Play 8A and Realme C1 due to its big battery, good cameras, the fingerprint reader and a slightly more attractive design. But its price is a lot higher: it costs about €200/$227, while its rivals can be found at just €100/$115 more or less. That is why we think Honor Play 8A has the best value for money with its better performance and good cameras.

Two other great devices in its price range are the recently-unveiled Realme C1 and Vivo Y93. They are awesome devices when it comes to quality-price ratio, for both performance and battery life. Here is a specs comparison between three of the best value for money of the moment.

Design

Huawei Honor Play 8A is the device that you should consider if you want a sleek and compact design allowing your phone to fit better in a pocket, easy to use with one hand. But if we exclude the comfortable size, the best design is the one of the Vivo Y93. It is the only to sport a back cover available in gradient colors and it also has a very high screen-to-body ratio with a waterdrop notch and a narrow chin. Realme C1 is less attractive due to its bigger notch and its anonymous plastic body, while Honor Play 8A has a waterdrop notch as well, so it is definitely better.

Display

All the displays of these devices are below-average. They do not provide a very high level of detail due to their HD+ resolution, but this benefits the battery life as HD+ displays have a lower energy consumption. Oppo Realme C1 and Vivo Y93 come with a bigger size, so they are more comfortable for advanced users. Further, the Realme C1 is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, so it has a more resistant display. I would personally choose the Realme C1 for this reason, because each of these devices has a similar viewing quality to each other.

Specs & Software

Are you looking for the fastest and smoothest device which can handle heavy apps in a better way? Then you should go for the Honor Play 8A. After Xiaomi Mi Play, it is the first device equipped with the new octa-core Helio P35 SoC by MediaTek. It is a chipset that should be on par with the Snapdragon 632 and it should be the most powerful of the trio in almost every scenario. If for some reason you do not like it, Vivo Y93 is another phone with great performances due to its high quantity of RAM (4 GB). Despite its very interesting price tag, Realme U1 is the most disappointing as it only comes in a 2/16 GB configuration.

Camera

Honor Play 8A sports a surprising camera department for a device of its price range. It has a great 13 MP rear sensor with an f/1.8 aperture as well as a nice 8 MP selfie camera which does its job. It surprises especially for the level of detail in the photos, but only if light conditions are good. Vivo Y93 takes the second place with a sufficient dual camera including a depth sensor on its back, and an 8 MP selfie snapper. Realme U1 is more or less the same when it comes to rear cameras, but the selfie camera is inferior.

Battery

The weak point of the Honor Play 8A compared to its opponents is the battery life. It comes with just 3000 mAh of battery, while Realme U1 and Vivo Y93 have batteries with a capacity superior to 4000 mAh. Due to the high capacities and the very efficient components, Realme C1 and Vivo Y93 can last more than two days on a single charge, making them two of the most outstanding battery phone in the entry-level segment. Honor Play 8A remains more than sufficient but way inferior to its rivals.

Price

You can grab a unit of the Honor Play 8A or Oppo Realme C1 for just €100 at the actual change, while Vivo Y93 costs about €160. Excluding the battery, Honor Play 8A is the device I prefer because of its better performance and good camera performance.

I am sure Realme 2 and Realme C1 owners are pretty excited to know ColorOS 5.2 is coming this month. The update already arrived on the Realme 1 a few weeks ago.

Realme says the exact dates for the updates have not been determined. There is also a chance that the OTA update won’t arrive on some devices until January since it will be a gradual roll-out.

It will also excite you to know that Realme devices will get the ColorOS 6 update which will be based on Android Pie. The update will arrive next year but the dates will definitely vary for each device. Also fixes for some issues which were not mentioned above will be bundled with the update.

While the company started its operations from India, it has been steadily expanding its geographical presence and is currently present in six countries, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Phillippines. Now, the company is all set to expand operations to the seventh country, Pakistan.

The announcement regarding Realme’s arrival in Pakistan was made through the official account of Realme Pakistan on Facebook. While there’s nothing much known about the company’s plan in Pakistan, it’s known that the phones will be available for purchase through online as well as offline stores.

So far, Realme has launched five smartphones, which include Realme 1, 2, 2 Pro, C1, and the latest Realme U1. The company has not yet revealed which phones will be launched in Pakistan, but we expect the company to introduce its recently launched devices, including U1, Realme 2, 2 Pro, and the entry-level C1.

In India, Realme U1 is the company’s latest smartphone and the first one under its new U-series focused towards the selfie-loving users. The phone is also the world’s first to be powered by MediaTek’s Helio P70 octa-core processor which features Cortex-A73 and Cortex A53 cores in the same 4+4 arrangement, coupled with ARM Mali-G72 GPU.

It boasts a 6.3-inch Full HD+ dewdrop display with 90.8 percent screen-t0-body ratio and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone comes in two memory configurations — 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot that enables users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB.

As for the camera configuration, it features a dual camera setup on the back, consisting of a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front side, the phone comes equipped with a 25-megapixel Sony IMX576 sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The phone is running Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with ColorOS 5.2 on top and is powered by a 3,500mAh battery.

The pricing of the Realme U1 starts at Rs. 11,999 (approximately $170) while the company’s entry-level phone — C1 — is available for Rs. 7,499 (approx. $105). We are expecting the phones to be priced similar in Pakistan as well.

The device is an entry-level model and has been released in Indonesia apart from India. So, it is no surprise that the company is now set to unveil the device in the Philippines. According to details released by popular retailer Lazada, the Realme C1 will be launched exclusively on its platform on December 5.

The device will be launched with a starting price tag of PHP5,490 ($105)and this is for a device with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage which is the only variant available. This price is slightly higher than the price it was launched bearing in India and Indonesia (less than $100) and this slight increase is attributed to the poor performance of the Indian currency. The Realme C1 price will later berth at PHP5,990 ($113) after the opening sales.

The pricing and availability details for all the phones will be revealed on 29th November. During the 11.11 Singles Day sale, Realme was the bestselling smartphone brand on Lazado in South Asia.

Realme Philippines is also launching a campaign to gather a community, called Realme Squad Members. The company will select a few participants who will be among the first to get hands on the new phones, to propose community activities and “to be the pioneer of the brand.”

Realme Philippines chief operating officer Jacky Chen, said,

We have worked hard to prepare the Philippine launching of Realme Philippines, as early as now we will listen and understand the needs of Filipino consumers to provide appealing offers and campaigns. We also aim to further push the growth of e-commerce in the Philippines through our product offerings and create the same effect we did in other Southeast Asian countries.

Post its success with hardware, the company now seems to be focusing on crucial factors for the smartphones — software and regular updates. The company has announced a new ColorOS 5.2 update for all its smartphones — Realme 1, 2, 2 Pro, and C1.

Realme 1, the company’s first smartphone, received an OTA update that enables the device to get ColorOS 5.2 update. The device will receive the actual ColorOS 5.2 Beta update from November 16 with fixes for developer options’ flashing, single-swipe notification dismisses, and a headset icon. The public update will start rolling out shortly after 25th November.

The new software update for Realme 2 and Realme C1 will also include the November security patch, along with hotfixes to the Android operating system and Realme’s own security fixes. While both the devices will receive ColorOS 5.2 update in due course, the company has revealed a specific timeline.

The Realme 2 Pro is slated to receive an OTA update on 20th November which will make the device ready for the upcoming ColorOS 5.2 Beta. However, a statement from the company regarding the ColorOS 5.2 update suggests that the update won’t be released immediately and that there could be a delay.

The ColorOS 5.2 features a new user interface which aims to give users a more smart and efficient experience. It also has a smart assistant that helps with a lot of things from object recognition to code scanning, app prediction, and even payment and smart driving mode.

Oppo has also introduced a ‘Smart Bar’ in the newer version of the OS, which enables users to switch between apps, transfer files, reply message, or take screenshots when playing a game or watching a video, without interruption.

Design

Even though it is fully made of plastic, Lenovo K9 is the most attractive device among these ones. It has a wonderful rear cover which reminds of the reflective glass back of some iconic Honor devices, and it does not have a notch, just in case you hate it. It is also the thinnest device of the trio. But you may also like the Realme C1 more than Lenovo K9 because of its higher scree-to-body ratio thanks to a tri-borderless design and a not so big notch.

Display

With a diagonal of 6.2 inches, Oppo Realme C1 has the biggest display, and that is why we prefer it over its opponents. Further, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, so it should be harder to damage despite its very narrow bezels. In terms of viewing quality, not much changes between these devices.

Specs & Software

While Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Lenovo K9 are equipped with the Helio P22 SoC by MediaTek, Oppo Realme C1 has the Snapdragon 450. The first is better when it comes to CPU power and it has a lower power consumption so it makes batteries last more (12 nm production process), while the second has a better GPU, so it provides nice performance in gaming. If you need a phone for daily use and you are not a gamer, Helio P22 is more suitable. And if you want the best performance (as well as the best user interface), you should go for the 4/64 GB configuration of the Xiaomi Redmi 6.

Camera

If you are looking for the best camera department, choose Lenovo K5. It has a total of four cameras and it has the same dual camera setup on the front and on the back. It is composed of a primary 13 MP sensor and a secondary depth sensor with a resolution of 5 MP.

Battery

If you want the longest battery life, Oppo Realme C1 is the best smartphone for you. It features a huge 4230 mAh unit which can provide two full days of battery life if you do not stress it too much. Both Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Lenovo K5 have a 3000 mAh battery, so they can not compete.

Price

You can get Oppo Realme C1 for about €96/$109, Lenovo K9 for €110/$125 and Xiaomi Redmi 6 for €120/$136. I would personally pick Oppo Realme C1 because has the most important component that, in my opinion, should be inside low-end devices: a huge battery.

Realme has launched three smartphones in Malaysia — Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro and Realme C1. Just like in India, the pricing of all three devices in the Malaysian market is pretty aggressive, which could help the company gain popularity in the new market.

In Malaysia, the Realme smartphones will be available for purchase through the company’s official online store as well as through Lazada Malaysia and Shopee Malaysia. While Realme 2 Pro will be available during 11.11 Sale, the Realme 2 will go on sale from November 24. However, in a surprising move, the company has now increased pricing of Realme 2 and Realme C1 smartphones on Flipkart just after the Big Diwali Sale ended on the e-commerce platform.

The company has increased the pricing of Realme C1 by Rs. 1,000 (approximately $14) while the pricing hike for the base model of Realme 2 is Rs. 500 (approx. $7). The Realme C1, which was launched for Rs. 6,999 will now be available for Rs. 7,999 while the Realme 2 will now cost Rs. 9,499 (approximately $130) for the 3GB RAM model.

The 4GB RAM model of the Realme 2 is still available at its original price of Rs. 10,990 (approximately $151). It’s not yet confirmed if the 4GB RAM model will get a price hike or not. On the other hand, the Realme 2 Pro is still available at its original price but we expect that it will too get a price hike after the Diwali festival.

Realme managed to grab an impressive market share in India’s budget smartphone segment, despite being a very young brand. This is quite impressive given the competition in the world’s one of the largest smartphone market. One of the reasons for the brand’s success is its highly competitive pricing. While the brand has hiked the pricing, the Realme phones still remain among the best options in their segment.

The company decided to take the route of price hike because of the tumbling rupee since the beginning of the year. Considering that most components are bought in US dollars from other countries and the import duties, the company’s margins take a hit, which probably is pretty low in such a competitive market.

While Realme has already increased the pricing of its products in India, Xiaomi is planning to do so. During Redmi 6 lineup launch in India a couple of months ago, Xiaomi hinted towards price hike and said that it’ll wait for a few months to see how INR performs against USD before taking such a move. Given that the Rupee is still falling, it seems that Xiaomi will soon increase the price of its products.

Meanwhile, there are reports about Realme planning to use Oppo’s VOOC fast charging technology in its upcoming phones. Given that Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India has already confirmed two or three Realme phones in India by March 2019, it’s speculated that the Realme 3 or 3 Pro could feature VOOC fast charging. It is also working on a first smartphone to be powered by MediaTek Helio P70 octa-core processor.

Sheth has now revealed through a recent tweet that an upcoming Realme phone will carry support for VOOC fast charging.

Realme has recently confirmed that it will be the first company to use the upcoming MediaTek Helio P70 chipset. However, what is not known is that whether the Realme 3 or Realme 3 Pro or both devices will be fueled by the new MediaTek SoC. When one of the Realme fans asked whether VOOC charging will be available on upcoming phones from the company. He responded by saying “why not” which indicates that the rapid charging technology will be available on the forthcoming Realme phones.

VOOC charging is OPPO’s proprietary fast charging technology that allow OPPO phones to support 20W fast charging. With the launch of the OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition, the Chinese manufacturer had introduced Super VOOC charging technology that supports 50W charging. Since Realme is a sub-brand of OPPO, it is very likely that Realme phones at some point will carry support for VOOC charging.

OPPO has launched many phones with VOOC charging technology in China in the recent years. However, the OPPO F9 Pro is the first ever phone in India to support VOOC charging. There is no information available on the specifications of the Realme 3 and Realme 3 Pro. Realme may want to make the VOOC charging technology available on the Realme 3 Pro. The Realme 3 series is expected to feature waterdrop notch screen. Like the Realme 2 Pro, the Pro variant of Realme 3 may feature up to 8 GB of RAM.

Last month, the company had revealed that it had hit the one million sales mark in just four months after it started selling Realme 1 and two weeks of Realme 2 launch.

The company, which started off as a sub-brand of Oppo and recently split from its parent company to operate as an independent brand, recently launched Realme 2 Pro and Realme C1. The devices were available for purchase in Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale, during which , the company claims to have sold over one million phones.

Along with that, the company also claims that it managed to sell 110,000 units of Realme C1 entry-level smartphone in just one second during Flipkart’s sale. With such sales record, the company claims to have become the number two smartphone brand during the sale, just behind Xiaomi.

In a press statement, Realme India Chief Executive Officer Madhav Sheth said:

Realme has secured No. 2 position on Flipkart but still we think we underestimated the love and expectations our fans have shown. I’m also happy to announce that Realme 2 has even crossed 1 million sales in just 40 days and even now ranked the highest rating in 10K segment. I’m proud to say there is truly a Realme for every Indian.

During the Flipkart sale, two devices from Realme were made available for purchase — Realme 2 Pro and Realme C1. While the Realme 2 Pro takes on the likes of Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, Motorola One Power, Nokia 6.1 Plus, and Xiaomi Mi A2, among others, the Realme C1 competes against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 6A.
