Samsung has officially started rolling out the latest security update for its previous generation of flagship smartphones. The Galaxy S23 lineup is now receiving the February 2024 security patch, so here are all the details.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Security Update

To recall, the South Korean tech giant has released the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra last year. It is now updating the security of these high end models. The latest software update has a download size of around 400MB and upgrades the security to the latest February 2024 patch. Unfortunately, it does not bring any notable changes or enhancements in performance on the Galaxy S23 series.

Although, the latest security patch does ensure a more secure device. This security upgrade is currently rolling out in India, so you can head to “Settings” and then “Sofware update” to check if you have received the update. The South Korean tech giant’s latest One UI 6 Beta 8 build is bringing the Android 14 update to the Galaxy S23 series. Notably, this isn’t the first iteration of Android 14 on these devices and the brand has released new beta builds of the One UI 6 periodically.

The One UI 6 Beta 8 update doesn’t bring any major features but brings improved system stability and performance alongside feature enhancements and bug fixes. The June update for the Galaxy S23 series is currently rolling out in South East Asian countries including Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It is expected to arrive in various other regions. The update has firmware version S91xBXXU2AWF1. It has a large 2.2GB file size. The update also brings a June security patch. It’s worth noting that the updated build number will vary depending on the region.

A Twitter user has shared a changelog of what the June 2023 update for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series brings. It includes significant improvements to the camera including a 2x zoom option in the camera’s portrait mode, resolved autofocus and HDR performance issues, and an overhauled night mode processing. Additionally, the haptics are also improved along with smoother UI animations and transitions and system stability.

As per official notes, the South Korean tech giant’s Research and Development Institute Noida (SRI-N) is a global R&D Center that has been working on making advanced solutions for the company. Thus, SRI-N has made major contributions towards the development of smartphones and other innovations from the brand. Furthermore, this team in India has also worked closely with other teams in South Korea to help develop innovative features in the latest Galaxy S23 lineup.

Some of the features made by SRI-N engineers are in the fields of user experience, health features, performance improvements, and user safety as well. To elaborate, user experience is a crucial part in the digital work and the SRI-N team has worked hard on building an intuitive experience. The Galaxy to Share app is one such example as its lets users to share all customization and own personalization settings across different Galaxy devices. Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Clock Record Pre-Orders In Home Market

Last week, Samsung announced that it registered 1,40,000 pre-orders for the Galaxy S23 series within 24 hours of opening the pre-booking in India. Now, the latest generation flagship Galaxy S lineup has also received a great reception in the brand’s home country. Korean media reports that there were 1.09 million pre-orders for the Galaxy S23 series. This is said to be 7 percent more than the Galaxy S22 series last year.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series pre-orders record in South Korea make it the highest ever in the Galaxy S lineup. Only the Galaxy Note 10 family holds the record for the most pre-orders with 1.39 million units registered in the pre-sale back in August 2019. The brand’s fourth-generation foldables i.e. the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4 narrowly missed the 1 million pre-order thresholds.

Korean media reports that the Galaxy S23 Ultra was the most opted device accounting for 60 percent of the pre-orders placed. The regular S23 model was chosen by 24 percent of customers whereas the S23+ recorded the smallest share of 15 percent.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series features a dynamic AMOLED 2x display bearing a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 1,750 nits peak brightness. All three devices are powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor coupled with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 4.0 storage technology. The regular and Plus models of the Galaxy S23 feature a 50MP primary, 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto triple rear camera setup whereas the Ultra variant has a 200MP primary sensor and an additional 10MP periscope lens. The S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra are backed by 3,900, 4,700, and 5,000mAh battery units respectively.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Can Run at Full Power While Gaming Thanks to GOS Toggle

Last year, Samsung got into hot waters with its users and the tech community as it was secretly throttling the performance of nearly 10,000 apps using its Game Optimizing Service (GOS). However, the kicker was that benchmarking apps were not being throttled by GOS, which can be seen as a blatant breach of trust. Worse yet, there was no way of disabling it manually.

Although a service like GOS made sense if you want to game for extended periods without burning your fingers on your smartphone or draining the battery too quickly, the app should never have interfered with non-gaming apps and should have allowed users to choose if they wanted to implement this low-performance mode.

Ever since this issue was brought to light, Samsung has made amends and has enabled a toggle within One UI that allows users to turn off GOS manually. By turning off Game Optimizing Service, users are able to access the full power of their chipsets in scenarios like gaming.

With Samsung launching the Galaxy S23 series last week, GOS has made a return of the device along with a toggle to turn it off. This means that users of the new Samsung flagships have the option to push their devices to the limit while gaming. This means that users can take full advantage of the supposedly more powerful custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets especially made for the Galaxy S23 series. We already know that these custom chips have an overclocked applied to their CPU as well as GPU. We recently reported that the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s GPU outperforms the one on the Apple A16 Bionic, which the current iPhones are using.

So should you try letting the beast loose? Well, Samsung does claim that they have made major improvements with cooling on their flagships. Specifically, the Galaxy S23 has 1.6 times better cooling than the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S23+ has 2.8 times better cooling than its predecessor, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 2.3 times better cooling system than the one found on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. So yes, the device will be able to handle the heat. That however doesn’t mean that your fingers won’t feel the heat as all that extra heat will likely be dissipated through the back panel.

Samsung Achieves Record Galaxy S23 Series Pre-Orders In India In Less Than 24 Hours

Samsung launched its next-generation flagship Galaxy S23 series last week. The lineup comprising of standard, Plus, and Ultra models are expensive than the previous generation models. Now, the South Koren brand announced that it has received 1,40,000 pre-orders within the first 24 hours of opening up of pre-bookings. The number is twice as many as the last year’s Galaxy S22 series. This also shows a strong demand for premium smartphones in the country.

The record pre-booking numbers of the Galaxy S23 series is attributed to cashbacks, bundled ecosystem products, and affordable schemes. Samsung India’s Vice President said that the average selling price of a Galaxy S23 series device is Rs 1 lacs which almost rakes up Rs 1,400 crore in revenue. He also added that Samsung’s proprietary financing scheme has been extended to 18,000 pin codes from 12,000 last year covering almost 60,000 stores from 40,000.

With the record pre-bookings, Samsung expects to grow in double digits in the premium segment this year on the back of strong pre-orders for the flagship Galaxy S23 series as well as other devices.

Additionally, Samsung also confirmed that all Galaxy S23 series units sold in India will be manufactured at the brand’s Noida facility in the country. The local manufacturing of the flagship lineup will ensure that products will be available across all regions from the first day of the sale.

As the buildup to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series reaches its crescendo, another confirmation has come for the series. The Galaxy S23 will all feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor ahead of the Exynos chipset. A new leak relating to the release has all but confirmed the switch. The leak also indicates that the chip comes with special branding.

There had been complaints about the power efficiency of Samsung’s Exynos chipsets. Some of the reported complaints were overheating and general poor performance. The new leak confirms an earlier rumor that Samsung was using a special version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy S23 lineup. Tipster @rquandt provided some leaked images that revealed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip inside the S23 series. The chips also sport the For Galaxy branding, indicating their possibly special status.

Qualcomm is offering for the first time a faster and specialized version of its model. This follows the signing of a multi-year partnership to use Snapdragon chips in Galaxy smartphones. It is expected that the partnership will blossom into other models.

The special SD 8 Gen 2 chip has higher GPU and CPU clock speeds. This assures the improved performance of the chipset. The gaming performance and other Android tasks will be better achieved with the new chipset. The special Snapdragon chipset will generate more heat and it is not clear how Samsung hopes to overcome that. This is because sustained heat generation could be negatively impactful on the performance of the smartphone. We however expect Samsung to have made the necessary optimizations to overcome the problem.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup will be launched on February 1 at a scheduled Galaxy Unpacked event. Samsung is currently accepting pre-reservations for the flagship lineup. The Galaxy S23 is coming with high expectations as a great Android smartphone.

There have been many rumors and leaks about the new Samsung Galaxy S23 series, and the latest one suggests that they will have impressive performance improvements thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. According to a Twitter user, named “@AhmedQwaider888” the Galaxy S23 series will have a 36% overall performance increase, a 48% improvement in graphics, and a 60% boost in AI tasks compared to the Galaxy S22 series, which used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. Samsung Galaxy S22 series debuted earlier this year, and the Korean OEM has long been at work on its successor, the Galaxy S23 series. Several reports have suggested that the new flagship lineup could debut in the first half of February 2023, but there hasn’t been an official confirmation. Now, a popular tipster has seemingly confirmed the exact launch date of the forthcoming Galaxy S23 series. Here are the details.

Tipster Ice Universe claims the Samsung Galaxy S23 series will debut at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 launch event scheduled on February 1, 2023. This could be the launch date for the US market and other regions may get the new smartphones on February 2.

Previously it was reported that the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup has been delayed and will be released in mid-to-late February. Apparently, the South Korean company was unable to decide on the final pricing structure for the devices, thus the delay.

As mentioned, Samsung hasn’t revealed the launch date of the new series yet. So, it’s recommended that you take the above info with a pinch of salt.

Past leaks reveal the Galaxy S23 series will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The standard Galaxy S23 will pack a 3900mAh battery, and the S23 + will have a larger 4700mAh battery. Both devices will support 25W charging.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series will also feature an overclocked GPU

A recent Geekbench listing for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra revealed that the device will come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, featuring an overclocked CPU. Known leaker Ice Universe claimed that these are “exclusive high frequency version” of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

For context, the CPU frequencies of the Samsung-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips are 3.36GHz for the prime core, 2.80GHz for the performance cores, and 2.02GHz for the efficiency cores. In contrast, the official frequency for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 prime core announced by Qualcomm is 3.1872GHz.

Now, the leaker has come back with more news regarding the Samsung-exclusive chipset, saying that not only the CPU on the SoC will be overclocked, but the same will be the case for the GPU. According to Ice, the Adreno 740 GPU on the Galaxy S23 devices will be clocked at 719 MHz compared to the 680 MHz unit on the regular variant. It is currently unknown if there will be a change in the naming scheme for these higher frequency chips or if they will simply be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Talking about generational improvements, Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s CPU is 35% faster than its 8 Gen 1 counterpart, and the GPU is 25% faster. Additionally, the GPU also has hardware-backed ray tracing capabilities. This new chip version ought to be significantly quicker given the overclock to both. However, it is difficult to determine how much faster it will be in real-world scenarios.

Samsung to Offer the Same Selfie Camera on All Galaxy S23 Series Models

Just recently, a leak had hinted at the camera specifications of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which had some exclusive cameras since it is the top model. Now, a new report has suggested that one camera will be common across the entire flagship lineup.

It has already been reported numerous times that the S23 Ultra will feature a new 200 megapixel primary camera on the rear. Although a recent report also revealed that it will be paired with a 12 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, a 10 megapixel 3x telephoto shooter, and a 10 megapixel 10x periscopic sensor as well. Meanwhile, a new ETNews claims that the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ will reportedly feature a triple camera setup consisting of a 50 megapixel primary sensor, paired with a 12 megapixel and an 11 megapixel camera, which is just a minor upgrade over the S22 and S22+ models.

For those unaware, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ featured a 50 megapixel main camera, paired with a 12 megapixel ultra wide angle, and 10 megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom. So it is clear that the bulk of the major camera upgrades will be exclusive to the Galaxy S23 Ultra model. However, the entire series will apparently feature the same image sensor on the front. A previous leak had hinted at the front facing camera being a 12 megapixel shooter, and the new report backs this up.

Furthermore, the South Korean tech giant also plans on manufacturing around 32 million units of the Galaxy S23 series. 50 percent of this figure will be for the S23 Ultra model alone, while the base model will account for 30 percent of the production. This means that the S22+ will have the smallest share of 20 percent.

For those unaware, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ models are not expected to offer major changes in battery sizes over their predecessors. Similarly, the top end Galaxy S23 Ultra is also rumored to feature the same battery pack as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. But despite no major change in the battery pack itself, the endurance on the next gen models will reportedly see an improvement. The news arrives from a known tipster Ice Universe, who shared the information on Twitter.

He claimed that the Galaxy S23 lineup will arrive with a new and improved low power mode. This will reportedly reduce power consumption significantly, which in turn would raise the battery life of the new smartphones. However, the low power mode comes with a notable trade off, since users will have to bring down the refresh rate and even sacrifice their device’s performance as well. The tipster shared an image of the settings, which revealed that it will be called the light performance mode.

The Galaxy S23 lineup consists of the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. It follows the same trajectory as the Galaxy S22 series, but there are even more similarities.

Previous leaks and rumors around the Galaxy S23 series pointed to a close semblance with the Galaxy S22 lineup. The hard cases of the Galaxy S23 series are similar but the vanilla model has a smaller case while the Ultra sports the largest case. There are two additional cutouts for the Galaxy S23 Ultra to take care of a fourth camera and a laser autofocus unit.

The Galaxy S23 series have also gotten the 3C certification in China fuelling suggestions that it could be released soon. It is also speculated that the S23 lineup could arrive earlier than the S22. A Korean platform had reported that the Galaxy S23 series could be released during the holiday festivities in December. Unlike the S22, the Galaxy S23 series will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will also come with a monster 200MP camera and will be Samsung’s first phone with a such camera.

There is no official confirmation yet from Samsung on the release of the Galaxy S23 series. Pricing details leaks are also lacking for the Galaxy S23.

With the Samsung Galaxy S23 series launch edging closer, new reports and rumors have been surfacing regarding the upcoming flagship smartphones. Now, the latest leak reveals some interesting details regarding the design of the new devices.

Known tipster Ice Universe has just shared new images of protective covers for the Gaaxy S23 series. In the images, we can clearly see cases for the base Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23 Plus, and even the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Based on recent CAD render leaks, the first two models appear to have no camera bumps this time around, while a raised design can be seen on the Galaxy S23 Ultra model.

The case leak isn’t surprising considering accessory makers typically making products before a device is even officially announced since they need to release the case alongside the new smartphones being launched. Looking at the images, it is clear that the Galaxy S23 series features a uniform design language that is nearly identical to its predecessors. This is more evident with the S23 Ultra that has that same camera setup as S22 Ultra.

While the rear design might appear similar to the previous gen, it isn’t an indicator regarding the actual specifications of the cameras. So, we might seen upgrades across the board with the S23 series. As per previous reports, the Galaxy S23 Ultra s believed to be the South Korean tech giant’s first handset that features a 200 megapixel camera sensor on the rear. With the Google Pixel 7 series launch out of the way, there are no major announcements left. Now, Samsung is set to take the spotlight for its Galaxy S23 series of flagship smartphones, with the latest leak revealing their possible color options.

The news arrives from DSCC’s Ross Young, who shared the information on Twitter. According to Young, the South Korean tech giant will be launching its 2023 premium handsets in only four color options. Looking at the tweet, the four color variants include a Beige, Black, Green, and a Light Pink. If this information is true, then it would appear that the Galaxy S23 lineup has some limited color options.

For those unaware, the next gen high end smartphones are set to feature top notch specs and features like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and improved cameras. Apart from the base Galaxy S23, the Plus and Ultra variant are rumored to feature larger batteries and higher resolution front facing camera. The top end Galaxy S23 Ultra is even expected to feature a whopping 200 megapixel primary rear camera as well. But while we have some details regarding the internal, we now have more information regarding its outer appearance.

But going by these four options, the new colors seem quite ‘safe’ and limited. In comparison, this year’s Galaxy S22 series in a wide variety of colors such as Phantom White, Phantom Black, Green, Graphite, Gold, Cream, and Red. So, the inclusion of two new colors is something to look forward to, but the lack of more options is a bit disappointing. Samsung is expected to debut its next generation of flagship devices by January or February 2023. Months ahead of the expected launch, the Galaxy S23 Ultra was spotted on the 3C certification website. Now, the other two devices in the lineup, dubbed the Galaxy S22 and S22+, have also made an appearance on the certification website.

According to the listing, the Galaxy S23 is most likely to have the model number SM-S9110, while the S23+ may have SM-S9160. It reveals that both devices offer 25W fast charging. The Galaxy S23 Ultra 3C certification also revealed the device with 25W fast charging, which is quite odd as the current Galaxy S22 Ultra features 45W fast charging support.

Other than that, the listing does not reveal any further specifications. However, a recent report mentions that the upcoming S23 and S23+ models will mostly be similar to the current-gen S22 and S22+. The only notable difference between the devices will be the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Some markets are also expected to get an Exynos 2300 clad variant of the device.

The S23 will have a 6.1-inch display, while the S23 Plus will have a 6.6-inch display, assuming that the display sizes don’t change. Most likely, both phones will have Full HD+ displays. Back in February 2022, Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S22 series of smartphones. The next generation of flagship smartphones is not expected to launch before 2023, however, the rumor mill has already started churning out information regarding the Galaxy S23 series.

Tipster Ice Universe has revealed what we can expect from the vanilla Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23. According to the tipster, the device won’t feature any significant changes other than the upgraded chipset which will be the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcomm. He adds that the design, frame, display, cameras, and fingerprint sensor will remain the same as the Galaxy S22 and the S22+. So, let’s take a look at the Galaxy S22 and S22+ specifications to get an idea of what to expect from the next generation.

Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ specifications

The Galaxy S22 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a Full-HD+ resolution. The S22+, on the other hand, has a larger 6.6-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. Both have Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection and a 120Hz refresh rate. The phones have an Armor Aluminum frame in terms of build. The S22+ supports 1750 nits of brightness compared to the S22’s 1300 nits.

Under the hood, both devices feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 SoC(depending on the region) paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The S22 has a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast charging support, whereas, the Galaxy S22+ gets a 4,500mAh battery and has 45W fast charging support.

Coming to the camera system, both smartphones come with a 50MP Samsung GN5 primary sensor paired with a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 30x Space Zoom and 3x optical Zoom. Upfront, both have a 10MP selfie snapper.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series will reportedly not come an under-display camera. South Korean publication Wccftech learnt about the development from supply chain sources. The news also means that we may have to wait until the Galaxy S24 for the UDC technology.

Samsung already uses a 4MP under-display camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This means that the South Korean brand knows how to make the technology work. The report doesn’t state the exact reason Samsung is holding off on introducing an under-display camera on its upcoming flagship S-series.

Under-display camera technology is available only on a few smartphones these days including the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, ZTE Axon 30 5G, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Although the technology works, the photo and video quality are in low resolution due to engineering challenges. They are also not on par with conventional selfie cameras.

It’s likely that Samsung wouldn’t want to compromise on the imaging quality with the under-display camera. Additionally, the technology would also push up the price of the Galaxy S23 series. The Galaxy S-series sells in large numbers and it would put Samsung at a bigger risk of complaints about the poor performance of the under-display camera.

Recently, it was reported that the Galaxy S23 series will come with an upgraded 12MP selfie camera. This is a significant and much-needed upgrade since the last two generations of Galaxy S-series phones came with the same 10MP sensor. Samsung usually announces its flagship Galaxy S series in February every year. There’s still plenty of time for the next-generation Galaxy S23, however, information has started surfacing on the web.
