After Oppo launched its latest Oppo A7 smartphone in China, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, the Chinese brand has now launched the same phone in the Indian market.

While the company has announced the smartphone in India, Oppo is yet to announce its pricing. In China, the device is priced at 1,599 Yuan, which roughly converts to $230 or Rs. 16,400. In India, the phone comes in two color options — Glaring Gold and Glaze Blue.

The Oppo A7 features a 6.2-inch IPS LCD notched display that offers a screen-to-body ratio of 88.3 percent. The big display has an anti-reflective coating and is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass on top.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.8GHz. It comes in two models — 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM. Both the models pack 32GB of internal storage and a microSD card that support storage expansion up to 256GB.

Coming to the camera department, there’s a 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel horizontal dual camera setup is present on the rear. It can capture studio-quality portrait shots with bokeh effect through AI beauty technology. For capturing vivid videos, it carries support for multi-frame image stabilization technology. On the front side, it comes with HDR mode enabled 16-megapixel wide-angle lens with support for AR stickers.

Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, support for dual SIM cards, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, USB OTG, microUSB 2.0, GPS and 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone runs ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and is powered by a 4,230mAh battery. While there’s no fast charging support, the handset features an AI-based battery management feature that is claimed to extend the battery performance.

Meizu to release an adapter with independent music chip inside

Recently a question from a fan on the Meizu community prompted Meizu’s founder J. Wong to reveal an upcoming innovation from the company. The fan had inquired if the Meizu 16S design will restore the use of independent music chips. The fan also complained that the Meizu 16th Plus is good, but the music output isn’t really impressive and hopes the Meizu 16S will be better.

In his response, Meizu’s founder Huang Zhang, also known as Jack Wong, disclosed that the company will release an adapter with an independent music chip. Mr J. Wong had earlier disclosed that a mobile phone with a built-in music chip is a low-cost simple HiFi, and the cost of a good HiFi is many times higher than what the phones sell for. The company founder also shared a sketch of the technology embedded on a Type-C cable as well as a Type-C to 3.5mm adapter. The technology on a Type-C cord will give consumers a better choice, and the sound quality can be better. He also disclosed that the related accessories are already in development.

As for the much-talked-about Meizu 16S, Mr. Wong disclosed that the smartphone will be unveiled in May next year and will continue with the design of the Meizu 16. On the core configuration, it will be equipped with the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 processor. The founder had earlier disclosed that the company will not be among the early birds to integrate 5G technology on their smartphones.

Huawei trademarks 10N, 20C, 20N, 30C, 40C and more for future Honor phones

Huawei has filed multiple trademark applications for names of upcoming smartphones at the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Judging from these trademarks, we are pretty sure they are for future phones under the Honor brand.

The trademarks filed by the Chinese manufacturer are 10N, 20C, 20N, 30C, 30N, 40C, 40N, 50C, and 50N. Already, there is a phone in existence called the Honor 9N and the Honor 8C is one of the companies latest mid-range phones. So it is easy to piece it together that the trademarks are names of successors to the Honor 9N and Honor 8C.

Looking at the trademark again, one can deduce Huawei wants the Honor naming scheme to follow a similar path as that of its own Huawei-branded device. So instead of the Honor 11N coming after the Honor 10N, we will have the Honor 20N.

Honor 10 Lite launched in China; features 6.2-inch FHD+ display, Kirin 710 SoC, and dual rear cameras

At a launch event in China, Huawei‘s sub-brand announced a new smartphone — Honor 10 Lite. As the name suggests, the newly introduced smartphone is a toned-down variant of the Honor 10 launched earlier this year.

The Honor 10 Lite is priced at 1,399 Yuan (~$202) for the base model with 4GB RAM while the 6GB RAM model with 64GB storage costs 1,699 Yuan (approx. $245). On the other hand, the 6GB RAM model with 128GB internal storage is priced at 1,899 Yuan (approximately $274).

The phone comes in four color options — Gradient Red, Gradient Blue, Magic Night Black, and Lily Valley White. It will be available for purchase in China from 27th November.

The Honor 10 Lite aka Honor 10 Youth Edition features a 6.21-inch IPS LCD Full HD+ display with screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio and about 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 710 chipset.

The Kirin 710 is Huawei’s first 12nm chipset that offers significant improvement in power consumption and performance when compared to the 16nm Kirin 659. In terms of performance, the Kirin 710’s single-core performance is said to be 75% higher than that of the Kirin 659 while for multi-core performance, it offers a 68% increase in performance.

It comes in either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, along with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot which enables you to further expand the phone’s storage capacity. It also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for added protection.

For photography, the device comes equipped with a dual camera setup on the back, featuring a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor stacked vertically. It has several AI-based features, including scene recognition, partition optimization, among others. There’s also a 24-megapixel front camera with artificial intelligence technology.

Connectivity options on the device include Dual SIM, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Bluetooth v5.0 LE, and microUSB 2.0. The phone runs Android 9 Pie operating system out of the box with the company’s own custom interface EMUI 9 on top.

It also comes with GPU Turbo technology that enhances GPU performance significantly by increasing graphics processing efficiency up to 60 percent. The device is powered by a 3,400mAh battery which should be enough to last a whole day on a single charge.

Mediatek’s MT6779 likely Helio X40 spotted in benchmarks, could be featuring Cortex A75

It’s not only Qualcomm that have a considerable market share in the smartphone industry, but Mediatek also caters to many devices. Many Android devices run on MediaTek chipsets. In order to compete against the new chips from Qualcomm, it appears MediaTek is also testing some new chips. Already leaked, Mediatek MT6779 has appeared on the Geekbech benchmark with model number k79v1_64.

At the benchmark, MT6779 scored a significant score of 2025 on a single core test and managed to get 6831 on multi-core tests. If we compare it, then it is 35% higher than Helio P60 scores (MT6771). The new chipset carries eight different cores with the frequency of 2.0 GHz. Even though the serial number of the processor is speculating it to be the Cortex A75. Well, it can be said that a Cortex A75 processor would power it.

As per the official stats from the ARM, Cortex manufacturer, then it has a 34% increase in performance in comparison with its predecessor A73. Aggregating all things in place, then it can be said that MTK MT 6779 will be the first chip to use Cortex A75. It will further allow the MediaTek to ditch the old A73 architecture.

As of now, only Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and Samsung’s Exynos 9820 uses a couple of A75 cores in its architecture.

It is giving us another hint that the upcoming Mediatek MT6779 will be the new 7nm based Helio X40. It gained another 1000 points in the multiple core tests and single core, and it just headed 200 points ahead of the predecessor. Even though, we managed to find very minimal improvement in the comparison between the speculated Helio X40 and Helio X30 performance.

Well, currently nothing is confirmed but based on the facts it seems to be Helio X40 running Cortex A75 cores. Based on the scores it feels like a mid-range product for mid-range devices is coming soon.

Xiaomi has today announced a new 75-inch model in its Mi TV 4S series, which is priced at 7,999 Yuan that roughly converts to $1,152. It will go on sale in China from 23rd November and will first be available through Xiaomi Mall and Mi Home Stores.

This is the second time Xiaomi is launching a TV model featuring a 75-inch display panel. Earlier this year, the company had launched a 75-inch model of Mi TV 4 — making it the largest display panel for a TV ever launched by the company.

The huge 75-inch Mi TV 4S, which comes with a 4K HDR LCD panel, features narrow bezels surrounding the display, giving an immersive experience. As for the build quality, the company says that it is made of aerospace-grade aluminum, brushed metal, and silver-gray metal.

Under the hood, the newly introduced TV model is powered by a 64-bit quad-core processor which is likely to be Amlogic’s sixth-generation chipset. It’s October, and it’s time for financial reports for the Q3 2018. Already, Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, and Huawei has published their reports. Today, it is time to analyze all the results and brief on the overall sales from all OEMs via counterpoint’s new reasearch report. As per the data published by the research analysis firm, Vivo has sold most number of smartphones in China in Q3 2018. Well, it sounds good for Vivo as it has managed to rake up most of the sale in the last quarter.

Vivo has registered a Year-on-year growth of 2% and sold 21.6 million units with a market share of 19.9%. Further, Oppo has stood to 2nd place with a massive plunge in the YoY growth of -11%. Despite all the sudden fall, it still managed to sell 21.4 million smartphones with the market share of 19.7%. There are many other OEMs which have registered a good number of sales in teh last quarter.

Especially, Huawei and its subsidiary, Honor, both have managed to register a huge 14% growth in the smartphone sales. Honor increased the sales to 13.3 million units while Huawei ranked on 3rd position with sales of 15.7%. Both the manufacturers, Honor and Huawei hold 12.2% and 14.5% market share respectively.

On the other hand, Xiaomi fell 15% on YoY basis and churned 13.1 million sales with over 12% market share. Similarly, Apple has witnessed a sharp decline of 17% smartphone market in comparison to the last year. The Cupertino giant managed to rake up sales of 8.4 million units with a market share of upto 7.7%.

From there scenario above, it is directly visible that most of the brands have witnessed a colossal slump due to decline in global smartphone shipments. Though, great efforts from Huawei and Honor have allowed them to register a tremendous bump in the sale with respect to the last year.

Honor 8C powered by Snapdragon 632 SoC could launch in India next week

Honor 8C, the successor of the Honor 7C which was launched in China last month, is reportedly all set to launch in India next week. In India, there’s a possibility that the company could change the phone’s name to Honor Play 8C.

As per the reports, the phone could be available for purchase soon after its official announcement in the country. Initially, it is expected to be available on leading e-commerce platforms or the one with which Honor forms an exclusive partnership and Honor’s official website.

In India, the phone is expected to be available in two variants based on the memory configuration — one with 4GB RAM and other with 6GB RAM. Unlike the Chinese models where the 4GB RAM model packs 32GB storage and 6GB RAM model has 64GB storage, both the models in India will comes with 64GB of internal storage.

The Honor 8C features a 6.26-inch TFT LCD IPS HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1520×720 pixels, pixel density of 269 PPI, and a screen-to-body ratio of 86.6 percent. Under the hood, the device is powered by Snapdragon 632 chipset, making it the first commercial phone to be powered by Qualcomm’s new chipset.

It features a microSD card slot that can accept memory card of up to 256GB for expanding the storage capacity. Because of the dedicated microSD card slot, you can also use two SIM cards and a microSD card simultaneously.

The handset comes with a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 13-megapixel main sensor with a f/1.8 aperture and a 2-megapixel secondary depth of field sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The rear camera supports various functions, including autofocus, continuous capture, and AI beauty feature. The front camera is an 8-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture and soft light flash.

While the phone supports Face Unlock feature through the front-facing camera, there’s also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for added security. As for the software, the smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s EMUI on top. The phone is backed by a 4000mAh battery.

The mid-range Honor 8C is expected to be priced in India between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 15,000 (approximately $140 to $210). To know for sure, we’ll have to wait for the company to officially launch the phone in India.
