The Oppo Find X comes with a 6.5-inch Full-HD+ OLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display dominates the front side of the phone and it is touted as the world’s first smartphone to come with a screen-to-body-ratio of 93.8 percent.

The smartphone doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner, instead, it comes with O-Face (3D face unlock) which OPPO says has a failure rate of 1/1,000,000 compared to that of a fingerprint scanner which is 1/50,000.

Oppo Find X Camera

Unlike the Vivo NEX that features a pop-out front-facing camera, the Oppo Find X comes with a motorised sliding mechanism, which equips both — front as well as rear cameras. When this part of the phone slides out, it not only reveals the front camera and 3D face scanning sensors for unlocking the phone, it also reveals the dual rear cameras and LED flash. OPPO has termed it “Stealth 3D cameras”.

The 3D face unlock feature, which Oppo calls O-Face Recognition, uses 3D Structured Light Technology which scans 15,000 facial points. The company claims that it is 20 times safer than fingerprint recognition for unlocking the phone.

According to the company, the slide-out mechanism pops out in just 0.5 seconds. The company says that the sliding mechanism has been tested over 300,000 times for durability. Oppo is promoting the motorised camera as a major breakthrough for the smartphone industry.

US government reaches an agreement with China’s ZTE Corp to lift ban

ZTE Corp, one of the leading Chinese telecommunication equipment manufacturer from China, was banned from doing business with the companies base in the United States. However, the company was in talks with the U.S. government to lift that ban.

The ban was imposed after ZTE Corp. broke an agreement reached after ZTE pleaded guilty in U.S. federal court last year for illegally shipping U.S. goods and technology to Iran, which is in violation of U.S. sanctions.

According to the reports, the ban on China’s ZTE Corp. will be removed once the company deposits $400 million in an escrow account, the U.S. Commerce Department. The department has announced in a statement that an escrow agreement had been signed.

The escrow agreement is part of a $1.4 billion settlement ZTE reached with the Commerce Department last month to regain access to U.S. suppliers, whose components it relies on for its smartphones and networking gear.

The new settlement also includes a $1 billion penalty that ZTE paid to the U.S. Treasury last month and the $400 million in the escrow account that the United States. The government could seize the escrow amount if ZTE violates the latest settlement. Also, the $1 billion penalty is in addition to nearly $900 million ZTE paid last year.

The company is expected to restart its major business operations as soon as the ban is lifted. Earlier, the company, which employs around 80,000 people, had announced that it was ceasing its major business operations due to the U.S. ban.

Under the new settlement, ZTE was required to change its board and management within 30 days. In addition, the company must hire an outside compliance monitor selected by the Commerce Department.

MediaTek posts impressive Q2 2018 report as revenue explodes in June

Reports from the Taiwanese media indicate that MediaTek recently announced its financial performance for the month of June as well as the first half of 2018. The fabless chip manufacturer saw a surge in its revenue reaching a massive NT$21.06 billion for June alone and also an increase in revenue in the second quarter as expectedMediatek logo

The company also announced its gross revenue for the first half of the year with a 3.53% decline year-on-year. The company raked in a gross revenue of NT$110.135 billion. However, the company’s second-quarter revenue exceeded 60 billion Taiwanese Dollars, peaking at NT$60.48 billion (US$1.98 billion). This represents an increase of 21.8% from the previous quarter which is higher than the 20% growth forecasted. The revenue for Q2 2018 also exceeded the company’s earnings forecast of 55.6 billion to 59.6 billion Taiwan dollars.

MediaTek’s positive earnings for the second quarter could the attributed to the successful outing of its mid-range chipsets especially the Helio P60 chip. The chipset was first unveiled at MWC 2018 in February and has been adopted by a number of Chinese OEMs. The Taiwanese company is also optimistic that the positive result will continue in the third quarter. That may be a tough nut to crack anyway because the Chinese smartphone industry is presently experiencing a downturn. However, MediaTek may continue to grow in the deployment of its technology in other areas apart from smartphones, such as its Wi-Fi technology, power management ICs, automotive electronics and IoT.

Huawei Nova 3i will launch in The Philippines on July 28

First, Huawei announced the Nova 3e (in Malaysia) which is actually the same device as the P20 Lite. Then the Nova 3 got an early reveal today even though it isn’t due to launch until July 18. And now there is the Nova 3i which is heading to The Philippines.

The poster for the Nova 3i was spotted by a Facebook user who then shared it on a Huawei and Honor Philippines group on the platform.

Huawei Nova 3i

The poster shows the Nova 3i will also have a notch like the Nova 3 and Nova 3e. It will also have  “24MP Four AI Cameras” and 128GB of storage. The Nova 3 has four cameras, so there is a chance this is the same device but launching under a different name. It may also pack different specs.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Nova 3 already has multiple variants. Last year’s Nova 2 has multiple variants too. Apart from the main Nova 2, there is the Nova 2 Plus, the Nova 2 Lite (Huawei Y7 Prime 2018), the Nova 2i (Maimang 6/Honor 9i/Mate 10 Lite) and the Nova 2s.

OPPO Find X unboxing and hands on pictures: Epic design!

After a long wait that at a point was looking to be an endless one, OPPO finally announced the launch of the Find X smartphone. The device turned out to be worth the wait except that it comes with a steep price that might make it unaffordable for many. That notwithstanding, the design and innovation coupled with the powerful specs hardware make the device worth having. We bring you the unboxing/hands-on pictures of the  OPPO Find X.OPPO Find X

The Find X features an unprecedented 93.8% screen ratio and equally features a standout innovative dual-rail periscope structure with a full hidden 3D camera. The dual-rail periscope hides many components such as 3D-structured optical components, front-facing cameras, receivers, and rear dual cameras. This design also ensures the integrity of the overall screen by avoiding having to create a notch at the top to house the components. The design also ensures the top bezel is as thin as those on the sides. With this, we are gradually edging towards a full bezel-less smartphone and it won’t be surprising if OPPO or Vivo is among the first OEM to unveil that.OPPO Find X

OPPO Find X comes with a Type C port that is used for charging as well as data transfer and for connecting a headset. There is no 3.5mm audio port on the device but there is a Type-C to 3.5mm audio jack adapter in the box. The device is also bundled with a USB Type-C earphone.find x pictures

Android P’s Name Revealed in Huawei-Customer Chat

It has become an annual tradition for people to guess what Google would name its next version of Android. This year has been no different for Android P. Google won’t announce the official name until next month but if you are eager to find out what the name is, you should read on.

Android P

In what is most likely a mistake by a Huawei employee, the name of the next Android version is now public knowledge. The name was revealed in a live chat conversation between a customer and a Huawei Mobile representative.

The customer wanted to know when the Huawei P9 Lite Mini (Y6 Pro) and Huawei P9 Lite (2017) would get updated to EMUI 8.0 (Android 8.0 Oreo). In one of the responses, the Huawei employee then mentions Android Pistachio just as one would casually say Android Oreo.
