Huawei officially launches ‘3D Moderator’ app for creating AR interactive elements

The Mate 20 series smartphone from Huawei comes with Leica-branded lenses. Along with that, the major highlight of the camera is that the phone supports several AI-based and AR-based functions and features, aiming to provide an impressive camera performance.

Powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 chipset, which comes with two NPU chips, where one is dedicated to “vast AI computing,” while the other tackles “specific tasks.” As per the company, the setup boosts image recognition performance 120 percent.

Now, Huawei has officially launched its ‘3D Moderator’ application for the users of Mate 20 20 and Mate 20 RS Porsche Edition, which enables creating own AR interactive 3D elements, known as “AI Live Model” or “3D Live Object”.

This is possible because of the array of front-facing sensors, which includes a 24MP RGB camera sensor, a dot projector, flood illuminator, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, an IR camera. Using those sensors and some artificial intelligence-based algorithms, the device can quickly scan the toy object — such as a doll — and can also simulate the limb movements.

The company says that the object selected for scanning should be 15-25cm in length and parts of it should be at least 5cm in diameter. For animation effects, users can choose from a range of actions, including happy jumping, ballet, happy walking, cross-stepping, easy running, Chinese kung fu, among others.

The object can then move and dance in augmented reality, providing an immersive AR interactive experience. It can also be shared on social media platforms. Users can also use the software to create their own custom interaction. Similar to Google’s Playground AR app, users can also take photos with the virtual toy.

ASUS has recently confirmed that it will be launching the ZenFone Max Pro M2 smartphone on Dec. 11 in Indonesia. The key specifications of the smartphone have already surfaced in the previous week. XDA Developers have spotted an ASUS phone with model number ASUS_X01BD_1 in the device catalog of Google Play Console. It is speculated that this device could be the upcoming ZenFone Max Pro M2 smartphone. The listing contains an image of the smartphone.

The low resolution render of the ZenFone Max Pro M2 reveals that it will be featuring a notched screen. The appearance of the smartphone is similar to the ZenFone 5Z flagship phone. The icons present on the screen show that its could be running on near stock version of Android like the predecessor ZenFone Max Pro M1 phone. The handset is running on Android 8.1 Oreo OS.

The Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 9 PureView are two new phones HMD Global is expected to announce soon. Ahead of their launch, listings of official cases for both phones have appeared online.

Although the listings don’t include images of the cases themselves, they reveal some other bits of information. The cases for the Nokia 8.1 actually says “Phoenix” but adds at the bottom that they are compatible with the Nokia 8.1. This has been interpreted to mean the device codenamed “Phoenix” is the Nokia 8.1 which is currently sold as the Nokia X7 in China.

One of the cases for the Nokia 8.1 is a transparent Clear Case with model number CC-181 and another is a tempered blue Entertainment Flip Cover with model number CP-281. The latter is most likely a case that can fold into a stand so you can watch videos with your phone propped up. The transparent case is priced at €6.64 and the flip cover will sell for €10.19.

The Nokia 9 PureView has a transparent premium clear case with model number CC-190 priced at €11.15. Like the other two cases, there are no images for it.

LG G7 One gets Android Pie before other LG phones

Meitu, the Chinese app maker and phone manufacturer, has a new phone coming soon and it just got certified. The phone has appeared on TENAA as the Meitu MP1801 and it packs some pretty interesting features.

The Meitu MP1801 has a 6.21-inch 2248 x 1080 OLED display. It is powered by an octa-core processor with 4-cores clocked at 2.6GHz and the other 4-cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The unnamed processor is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.

TENAA states the Meitu phone packs triple front-facing cameras in a 12MP + 20MP + 8MP configuration and has dual rear cameras in a 12MP + 8MP configuration. The Meitu MP1801 also has a fingerprint scanner, runs Android 9 Pie and packs a 3,400mAh battery with support for fast-charging.

It is more compact and pocket-friendly than its opponents and it is also splash resistant. Honor 8X is beautiful and it has even the highest screen-to-body ratio, but it has bigger dimensions.

Display

Huawei Honor 8X has one of the biggest displays ever seen on a smartphone. Only the biggest phablets such as Xiaomi Mi Max 3 are bigger than this handset. That is why it is more comfortable for productivity and multimedia. Further, it has a higher Full HD+ resolution, while Oppo A7 and Motorola One have just HD displays.

Specs & Software

Besides having a superior display, Huawei Honor 8X also comes with the best hardware department. Under the hood, it sports an octa-core Kirin 710 chipset (a competitor of the Snapdragon 660) and up to 6 GB of RAM. It is faster and more suitable for multi-tasking. Motorola One is at the second place with its Snapdragon 625, but note that it has Android One installed, a stock version of Android treated with faster updates by Google.

Camera

Huawei Honor 8X has a slightly better camera department thanks to a bright aperture and higher resolutions for both the rear and the front camera. It captures a lot of detail when there is light, and it does not disappoint in low light conditions, even if its camera performance is evidently worse. Motorola One is a good camera phone and it comes right after the Honor 8X, but Oppo A7 will probably shoot better selfies than both devices.

Battery

Given that it has the biggest battery and very efficient components, Oppo A7 will surely last more than Motorola One and Huawei Honor 8X on a single charge. But it does not feature a fast charging technology, so it takes a while to fully charge given that it has 4230 mAh. If you want a fast-charging device, choose the Motorola One and you will still get a good battery life thanks to its efficient components.

Price

Huawei Honor 8X is generally a better device and it wins this comparison, but Oppo A7 is better for you if you do not want a device with big dimensions. Huawei Honor 8X is available for less than €250/$285 globally, Oppo A7 costs around €270/$308 and Motorola One was launched with a €300/$342 price tag.

Vivo 1817 hits Geekbench, has 2GB RAM and runs Android 8.1 Oreo

Last week, the Vivo Y95 was seen on Geekbench, appearing on the site as the “vivo vivo 1807”. Another Vivo phone with a similar model number has been seen on the benchmark site again and we think it may also belong to the Y-series.

The device appears on the benchmarking site as the “vivo vivo 1817”. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo and has a 1.96GHz processor that is unspecified just like that of the Vivo Y95. The benchmark scores are also quite similar. However, it has just 2GB of RAM.

We believe the Vivo 1817 is a less-powerful version of the Vivo Y95 with less RAM but the same Snapdragon 439 processor. There is also the possibility of it being a different model entirely.

Leaked LG Q9 specs reveal 6.1-inch screen, 4GB RAM and NFC support

The LG Q6 launched mid-2017 as the first of LG’s mid-range Q-series. This year the Korean manufacturer added the LG Q7 and the LG Q8 to the list. A few months ago, news of the LG Q9 surfaced along with an alleged hands-on image of the phone. A few days ago, a render of the phone was seen on the web although this time it is shown with a notched display. Now specs of the phone have surfaced.

The source link is said to be the official Android website. However, when we checked we didn’t find it which means it must have been removed. Thankfully, there are screenshots of the page.

Based on one of the images which seem to be of the source page, the LG Q9 will come in two versions with model numbers LM-Q925S and LM-Q925L respectively. The phone will have a 6.1-inch display, 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage. It will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and have a fingerprint scanner and support for NFC.

The second image shows the phone along with some of the aforementioned specs. This is the same render that leaked a few days ago that shows the Q9 with a notch.

Huawei P Smart 2019 specs leak, to launch in Europe in January for €279

Huawei has a new phone heading to Europe and North America. Called the Huawei P Smart 2019, the phone has been seen on the FCC’s website along with some of its specs.

The Huawei P Smart 2019 has the model number POT-LX3. Sketches of the device on the FCC shows it will have dual rear cameras arranged vertically, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a notch. Based on the small size, the notch will most definitely have a water-drop design.

The Huawei P Smart 2019 is said to sport a 6.2-inch screen, 3GB of RAM with 32GB or 64GB of storage. It isn’t confirmed yet but since the original P Smart is powered by a Kirin 659 SoC, its successor is expected to come with a Kirin 710 processor. The FCC documents also say it has support for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, and 28. It will also be available in single SIM and dual-SIM variants with a 3320mAh battery.
