TCL T700X seen at TENAA with HD+ Display and a single camera

A new TCL smartphone has been spotted on TENAA’s website. The device has model number T700X and comes with an 18:9 display, a fairly large battery, and weirdly, a single camera.

The TCL T700X has a 5.7-inch 1440 x 720 screen. It is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Unfortunately, the listing doesn’t mention support for storage expansion.

The listing gets weirder as the phone is said to have a single camera and that is an 8MP sensor on the back. It runs Android 7.1. Nougat and packs an ample 3,860mAh battery. There is no fingerprint scanner and since there is no front camera, there isn’t face unlock.

[envira-gallery id=”202320″]

The TCL T700X has an unusual design as shown in the provided images. The front of the phone curves to meet the back (at the bottom) while the top is flat. The way it looks, it appears the phone is made from a single piece of material that folds backward instead of the usual glass and metal sandwich design seen in other phones.

It also has two orange buttons on the right which we believe are the volume buttons. There is a third orange colored button on the left (power button) that sits above a SIM tray. There are capacitive keys at the bottom of the screen and an earpiece at the top.

The TCL T700X measures 157.5 x 71 x 9mm and weighs 168g. It will come in dark gray only.

OxygenOS 5.0.4 Brings July Security Patch and Camera Improvement to OnePlus 3/3T

The OnePlus 6 is the latest device from OnePlus, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it is regularly in the news and getting updates and fixes. However, OnePlus hasn’t abandoned its older devices. A new update has hit 2016’s OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T and it brings the latest security patch and some device improvements.

The update is rolling out as OxygenOS 5.0.4 and comes with July’s security patch. However, a staff member on the OnePlus forum says an error in updating a string in settings under security patch causes it to incorrectly show as June.

OnePlus 3T

The update also improves the camera quality of the front camera and fixes a manual ISO setting issue associated with 3rd party camera apps. It also fixes a parallel Whatsapp crash issue and camera zoom-in issues for Snapchat.

While owners of both devices are patiently waiting for OnePlus to update the device to Android 8.1 Oreo, this update doesn’t do that. But there is good news.

Another staff on the forum has confirmed that this won’t be the last update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. He also acknowledged that users of both phones are “eagerly waiting for some big changes” but will have to be patient. He then added that more details would be shared very soon.

The update is 95MB in size and has already started hitting some devices. If you haven’t gotten it yet, it will arrive in the next few days.

ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 6GB RAM variant to go on sale in India on July 26

In April this year, Asus announced a new budget smartphone in the Indian market — Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. The phone went on sale in India in May in two variants — 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM. At the Asus Zenfone 5Z launch event in India, Asus announced that the 6GB RAM variant of the Zenfone Max Pro M1 will be available from this month.

Now, the company has officially revealed that the 6GB RAM variant of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 will be available for purchase in India from 26th July for Rs. 14,990 (approximately $218), exclusively through online marketplace Flipkart, similar to the other variants. The 6GB RAM variant’s entry is about a month late as Asus had slated its arrival in June.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1

In terms of photography, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 features a vertically arranged dual camera setup equipped with Softlight LED on its rear panel. It comprises a 16-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture for depth sensing.

Asus-Zenfone-Max-Pro-M1

While Asus smartphones usually feature the company’s custom interface ZenUI, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is the first phone that offers stock Android experience. It runs a pure version of Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box but it is not a part of Google‘s Android One program.

Connectivity options on the device include Dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and micro USB 2.0 port. There’s also a rear-mounted fingerprint reader for added security and the phone also supports Face Unlock feature.

It is powered by a high-density 5,000mAh battery that offers up to 199 hours of music playback, up to 25.3 hours of Full HD video playback, up to 28 hours of Wi-Fi browsing and up to 42 hours of 3G talk time. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 directly competes against Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. The pricing of the 6GB RAM model of the Redmi Note 5 Pro is Rs. 16,999, which is Rs. 2,000 more than the Zenfone Max Pro M1. Asus had a good chance to cash-in on Xiaomi’s struggle with maintaining stocks for the 6GB RAM model of Redmi Note 5 Pro but seems like Asus missed that bus.

Samsung could merge the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note smartphone lineup

Ever since Samsung Vice Chairman Jay Lee released from prison after his successful appeal, he has been reportedly focused on embarking on a complete overhaul of the company’s smartphone portfolio, including merging of Galaxy Note and Galaxy S-series lineup.

This also comes at a time when Samsung’s dominance in the smartphone market is under threat due to the rise of the Chinese companies. As a part of the company’s new strategy, boardroom meetings and partner pitches have been related to the merging of the company’s two flagship smartphone series — Galaxy S and Galaxy Note into just one. This is mainly because of the overlap of smartphones from both series.

Galaxy Note 9 Case Renders 1

Apparently, the company is considering to ditch the Galaxy Note-series and make the Galaxy S-series as the top-end version. So, there’s a possibility that instead of the Galaxy Note 10 next year, we may be presented with a Galaxy S10+ with S Pen Stylus support.

This could also save millions of dollars for the company in the development, production, and marketing. Currently, there are reports making rounds suggesting the upcoming Galaxy S10 series will consist of three smartphones, which could be because of the merging of Note into the S-series. However, there could also be just an additional anniversary edition in the S10 lineup.

As for the Galaxy Note 9, the South Korean giant is all set to unveil its next flagship smartphone in New York on 9th August. The smartphone will be coming with 6.3-inch S-AMOLED Infinity Display and will be powered by Snapdragon 845 processor in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, China, Hong Kong and Japan while the rest of the world will get Exynos 9810 processor.

The smartphone packs 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It will feature dual rear cameras with variable aperture and will be powered by a 4,000mAh battery. There is a possibility that there will be an advanced model featuring 8GB RAM and 256GB/512GB internal storage.

According to the reports, Samsung plans to produce 7.5 million units of the Note 9. It will produce around 2.5 million units per month for the first three months from July to September. From October to December, the company plans to ship about 4.5 million units (about 1.5 million units per month). The report adds that the shipment plans for October to December may vary depending on initial sales volume.

Meizu 16 is launching on August 8; Front design revealed

Meizu has released the first official launch poster of the upcoming Meizu 16 series. It confirms that the Meizu 16 will go on official on August 8. It is very likely that the Meizu 16 Plus may also get unveiled alongside it.

The launch poster showcases the front design of the smartphone. The image shows that the handset does not feature a notch like the recent flagship phones from other Chinese smartphone OEMs. The upper bezel is slim with an earpiece on its top edge. It also houses a selfie camera. The bottom bezel appears to be of equal size. The bezels present on either side of the display are quite thin.

The impression of the fingerprint on the bottom portion of the display is clear indication that it will be Meizu’s first phone with in-display fingerprint scanner. The poster of the Meizu 16 also states that Snapdragon 845 SoC will be present inside it and it will also feature mBack.

Meizu 16 August 8 Launch Poster

The company is yet to reveal the rear design of the Meizu 16. However, it is very likely to house a dual camera setup on its back. Other poster shown below states that the Meizu 16 is now available for reservations.

Recent reports have revealed that the Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus will be arriving with Super AMOLED screens supplied by Samsung. The 18:9 aspect ratio displays on both smartphones expected to deliver a very high screen-to-body ratio. The Snapdragon 845 SoC is also expected to power the larger Meizu 16 Plus. These phones are expected to be available in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM options.

A recent report has revealed that the Meizu 16 duo will be equipped with AI Super Camera with Sony IMX380 sensor and bass-enabled stereo speakers. The report also claims that it is the thinnest device among the recent flagship phones as it measures 7.3mm in thickness and it weighs 152 grams.

Honor is going to announce yet another Revolutionary Technology, this time in AI!

Huawei is on a roll this year! After releasing the first triple camera smartphone setup earlier this year on the Huawei P20 Pro, the company unveiled GPU Turbo technology for its smartphones that enhances gaming experience to the next level. But there’s more to come! Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor, is all set to announce another revolutionary feature next week.

Honor AI breakthrough technology

Earlier today, Honor’s weibo released a teaser celebrating the first lunar landing (July 20, 1969), and further added that there would be something revolutionary this Monday with the words “1 second faster than Humans”. To be honest, this teaser was quite unclear and many were left wondering what to expect from the company’s new announcement on Monday.

However, soon after this teaser, Honor’s President, George Zhao, forwarded this weibo post adding a few comments. He said that he couldn’t reveal a lot about the upcoming announcement but can only say that it is yet another  major breakthrough by the company, this time in the field of AI.

George Zhao Honor announcement

Combining the two statements, first from the official Honor weibo page and the second from Mr. Zhao, we can say that it has something to do with AI being smarter and faster on smartphones. In this age, where AI has penetrated in each and every part of a smartphone including camera and UI, a revolutionary boost in this technology could have very notable advantages. Unfortunately, we don’t have much details as to what kind of improvement we’ll see but it looks as if the company could have made some significant progress in its machine learning technology.

We are excited to hear more about this breakthrough technology. If its like GPU Turbo, it could be available to a lot of existing Honor and Huawei smartphones too. Let’s wait for more details.

Huawei flagship with innovative design featuring front camera hole could launch in Q4

After Apple had launched the iPhone X with notched display design last year, various Chinese manufacturer including Huawei has launched plenty of mid-range and flagship phones with notched display. A South Korean publication has revealed that Huawei is working on a new notch-less smartphone. However, it will be sporting an innovative design with a hole on a 6-inch LCD display for the front camera.

As it can be seen in the image below, the camera hole is surrounded by display on all sides. This new design will certainly allow the smartphone to deliver a higher screen-to-body ratio than the current notched phones from the company such as Huawei P20 and P20 Pro.

The notched smartphones are fitted with front-facing camera inside the notch whereas newer flagship phones like Vivo NEX and OPPO Find X have pop-up camera system for the selfie snapper. Probably, in a bid to stay different from these brands, Huawei could be prepping up a new design that does not involve a pop-up camera, but still offers more screen space with a small hole for the front-facing camera.

The image shows that the slim-sized upper bezel will still be housing components like earpiece, ambient sensor and proximity sensor. To say again, the frontal camera will be detached from the top bezel with a bit more display between them. This is how Huawei could be planning to get rid of the notch.

The smartphone featuring a 6-inch LCD display panel with hole for the front camera is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of this year. Last year, Huawei had launched the Huawei Mate 10 with LCD screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9 whereas the Mate 10 Pro had arrived with AMOLED screen with a regular aspect ratio of 16:9.
