Xiaomi and Apple have been dominating the smart wearable market for consecutive quarters starting from last year. The report showed Apple dominated the market with an estimated 3.8 million while Xiaomi came in second with a total shipment of 3.7 million.wearable market

According to the report, Apple’s shipments got a big boost from the Watch Series 3 and the addition of LTE. On its part, 90% of Xiaomi’s shipments were for the Mi Band models especially the Mi Band 2. Other players in the top 5 include Fitbit, Garmin and Huawei.

Huawei And BOE Are Reportedly Teaming Up To Make 8-Inch Foldable Display Smartphone

We already know that apart from Samsung, China-based Huawei is also working on its own foldable smartphone. In fact, it was recently reported that Huawei is targeting to release the smartphone in November this year, aiming to beat Samsung to launch the world’s first foldable display smartphone.

Now, in line with that, the latest report indicates that Huawei is teaming up with another company, China-based display maker BOE to make a foldable smartphone with 8-inch display. It is said that BOE is responsible for manufacturing the foldable display while Huawei will take care of the rest.

For those who are unaware, BOE is China’s largest as well as world’s leading display manufacturer. The company is leading in terms of LED display, surpassing the likes of Samsung and LG in the market. BOE is now aiming to grab the market share in next-generation OLED displays and has started mass-production of its flexible OLEDs.

Along with Huawei, the China-based BOE is reportedly working with three other smartphone manufacturers. While not yet confirmed, these manufacturers could be Samsung as well as Xiaomi and Oppo. While Samsung has acknowledged that it is working on a foldable display smartphone, Xiaomi and Oppo already have filed for patents for such making such devices.

Earlier it was reported that Huawei’s foldable display smartphone will have an AMOLED panel with bendable display sourced from LG. On the other hand, it was reported that Samsung will be using a flexible OLED screen from Samsung Display.

Like Samsung’s foldable phone, the Huawei’s iteration is also expected to feature an inward folding design. In 2017, Huawei had filed a patent for a phone with a foldable display and the patent filing revealed that when the display is folded, it can be used as a smartphone and when unfolded, it can function like a tablet. Currently, there is no information available about the specification of the smartphone.

At the SID Display Week expo in Los Angeles, BOE has touted foldable displays at its booth and has also announced that it will be showing a 5.99-inch foldable smartphone and a 7.56-inch foldable tablet. The company has also detailed its new WQHD AMOLED foldable screen at the expo.

Xiaomi Answers Why Xiaomi Mi 8 is the Name of its Upcoming Flagship

Since last year, Xiaomi fans were expecting that the Xiaomi Mi 7 may debut around the first quarter of 2018. However, instead of debuting Mi 7, the Chinese firm introduced the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S flagship phone powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset in March. After its debut, it was speculated that the Mi 7 would get official within the first half of this year. However, the Xiaomi Mi 7 rumors have considerably reduced in the recent weeks. Not only multiple proofs of the Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone have surfaced in the past few days, but also the Chinese firm has confirmed that it will be launching as the 8th anniversary edition smartphone. However, why did Xiaomi decide on calling its upcoming flagship phone as Mi 8 and not Mi 7? The company has released a new poster today to answer this question.

According to the below shown poster, since the phone turned out to be way beyond expectations, the company opted to go with Xiaomi Mi 8 moniker for its upcoming flagship.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Confirmation

Leaked images and a hands-on video of the alleged Xiaomi Mi 8 has revealed that the handset would be sporting a notched display design like the iPhone X. Its notch is wider as it is said to feature structured light 3D module. Hence, the Xiaomi Mi 8 is rumored to debut as the first Android smartphone with 3D facial identification feature.

The other rumored features of the Xiaomi Mi 8 include 6.01-inch OLED display, under-display fingerprint scanner, Snapdragon 845, 6 GB / 8 GB of RAM, 64 GB/ 128 GB of storage, AI camera enabled with 2x optical zoom, Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10, and wireless charging support. The rumor mill has already revealed the speculated pricing of the phone. The 64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM edition of the Xiaomi Mi 8 is rumored to cost 2,799 Yuan (~$438). The higher model having 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM is likely to carry a pricing of 3,199 Yuan (~$500). Another report claims that the base model may cost 2,999 Yuan (~$469).

Sony Might Shift Away From Making Smartphones And Other Consumer Gadgets

In April this year, Kenichiro Yoshida took over as the chief executive officer of Sony, replacing long-term CEO Kaz Hirai. Kenichiro recently unveiled a three-year plan for the company which indicates that the company is moving away from manufacturing gadgets.

The focus of that plan is on services and other core areas of Sony, which is ensuring profitability for the company. Interestingly, there was no mention of consumer gadgets, let alone smartphones. The company has decided to embrace it’s growing reliance on income from gaming subscriptions and entertainment.

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida

While the company has not explicitly mentioned that it is moving away from making gadgets for the consumers, the exclusion of consumer gadgets in the company’s three-year plan indicates step.

This indicates major shift for a company that was built on manufacturing prowess. However, with the rise of Chinese manufacturing, the consumer electronics business has become difficult and on top of that, the margins have also decreased drastically.

The division of Sony that has been impacted the most by the rise of China-based companies is mobile phones. Sony’s market share in the mobile phones market has significantly decreased and is rapidly shrinking.

While Sony has great recognition as a strong brand name, the company managed to sell just about 10 million phones in 2018, which is down from 22.5 million in the previous year. Also, the company’s popular gaming console — PlayStation 4 (PS4), has also witnessed a drop in sales. The sales of PS4 has gone down 18 percent in the most recent quarter and even the company’s executives admit that the PS4 is approaching the end of its lifecycle.

Sony’s semiconductor business, which supplies mobile-camera chips for iPhones and other mobile phones, has also taken a hit. The division’s operating profit has declined 39 percent in the current fiscal year. However, the company is making billions from that business.

Going forward, Sony will be focusing more on its content businesses. While PS4 hardware sales have dropped, profits from the video-game unit are up, thanks to recurring revenue from PlayStation’s online network. Also, paying subscribers for the service have also increased by 64 percent over the past two years.

Starting from today Xiaomi is accepting registrations until May 31 in the home country. After the application is reviewed, some of the users will get a chance to try the new version of MIUI soon after its official announcement on May 31.

The MIUI 10 has been designed to offer faster performance than the MIUI 9. Previous reports have revealed that Xiaomi devices that are currently running on Android 5.0 Lollipop won’t be eligible to receive the final edition of MIUI 10. After the debut of MIUI 10, Xiaomi may confirm on the official list of eligible devices that will support the new MIUI version.

This model is also manufactured by Xiaomi’s eco-chain company Ningbo Yue Li Electric Co., Ltd.Yueli Hot steam Hair straightener

The hair straightener is no doubt a very popular fashion gadget in the women circle. The manufacturer put that into consideration in coming up with this model which has a sleek and attractive bright pink coating.  Unlike the wireless model, this version uses AC power supply and it has a 2.5m long power chord which is attached to the power source. The cable is designed in such a pay that it can turn 360 degrees at the point where it is attached to the gadget without getting entangled. The hair straightener features a minimalistic design similar to the conventional model. It measures just 296 x 33 x 40mm which makes it bigger than the wireless model with a dimension of 23 x 35 x 193mm and weighing 164g. The outer body casing sports a matte design which makes it non-slippery. The casing is also scratch resistant and can resist high temperatures.Yueli Hot steam Hair straightener

The main heating surface is covered with a nano-anion coating and is powered by a 220V power source and also comes with a built-in smart power-off system. If the device is switch on and left unused for up to 15 minutes, it automatically shuts down. The Yueli hair straightener also comes with five heating temperature levels; a low-temperature level of 150 ℃ and a high-temperature stall of 230 ℃. There are LED indicators to show when it is powered on.Xiaomi Yueli Hot Steam Hair Straightener

The Yueli Hot steam Hair straightener adopts a nano-level steam water ion helium penetration technology. As a result, the device not only straightens the hair but also hydrates it. There is a compartment for adding keratin which can then be used to coat the hair.  Keratin is an important component of our hairs and research has shown that people curly hair doesn’t have as much as those with straight hairs. Our hair is porous and keratin fills in those pours, seals the cuticle of the hair. Replacing the lost keratin will restore the hair to give it a shinier, smoother, stronger appearance and bring back manageability that was once lost or nonexistent.Yueli Hot steam Hair straightener

The Xiaomi M1804C3DE was seen on TENAA yesterday. However, only a few specs were revealed. Now the full specs of the device presumed to be the Redmi 6A have been released along with that of two other models with different model numbers but nearly the same specs as it.

Xiaomi logo

The Xiaomi M1804C3DE and its siblings – the M1804C3CC & M1804C3CE have the same display, battery, processor, and dimensions but differ in RAM, storage, and camera configuration

All three phones have a 5.45-inch screen with a 1440 x 720 resolution. They are powered by an unnamed octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz which we think is the Snapdragon 625.

They have Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed and pack 3000mAh batteries. Their dimensions are given as 147.46 × 71.49 × 8.3 mm and they each weigh 146g except for the M1804C3CC which weighs 145g.

The Xiaomi M1804C3DE comes in 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB variants with 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB of storage respectively. TENAA also says that it has three cameras though there are no pictures to confirm. The primary rear camera is a 12MP sensor but there is no mention of the second sensor. There is also a 5MP front-facing camera.

The Xiaomi M1804C3CC, on the other hand, only has a 2GB RAM variant with 16GB of RAM. It also has a single 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.

The Xiaomi M1804C3CE will launch in 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM variants with 16GB and 32GB of internal storage respectively. It will also have a single camera on both sides. However, its rear camera is a 12MP sensor but its front camera is 5MP like the other two.

Unfortunately, TENAA has not provided pictures for any of the models.

OnePlus 6 Teardown Hints At Difficult Repairs Due To Glass Body

OnePlus 6 is still making wakes globally. Fresh out of the factory, the device is undoubtedly OnePlus’ most beautiful and refined design with a luxurious glass back and elegant specs line up. Apparently, the glass panel has its own disadvantage apart from fragility. The OnePlus 6 teardown/disassembly process has been carried out by the tech gurus at iFixit and from their findings, the glass body makes the phone much harder to repair.OnePlus 6 Teardown

That is not in anyway condemning the OP6 to the waste bin. The device still remains a premium flagship worth every penny it costs. The teardown also shows that it is pretty easy to remove the back cover from the phone than on other glass phones. The reason for this is the longer cable that connects the fingerprint scanner allows you more wiggle room and lesser probability of tearing something off.OnePlus 6 Teardown

Once the back cover is off, the battery can be removed easily without having to deal with disentangling a battery glued to the frame. Moreso, the OnePlus 6 packs a 3,000mAh battery which is bound to deteriorate over time. Thus, the battery will need to be replaced at some point in order to get optimal battery life.

After the battery is removed, the motherboard is next in line. The motherboard is held in place by 10 Philip screws which will need to be unscrewed. OnePlus did not craft the 6 to be fully waterproof but touts the device as capable to withstand a short drop in the sink or exposure to rain. A quick inspection of the internals shows the presence of water insulation elements. OnePlus 6 Teardown

After the motherboard is removed, the AMOLED screen can then be accessed. It must be noted that OnePlus seems to have held the screen in place with a generous amount of glue and so, replacement is very risky and increases that chances of damaging the screen when replacing it.
