Following the launch of the Mi MIX 2S as Xiaomi’s first flagship of the year, it is hard to guess when the Mi 7 will arrive. While there are rumors it may launch on May 23, the chances are very slim. While we wait for a proper launch date, more leaks have continued to surface and the latest is a video render of the Xiaomi Mi 7.
This render of the device was made by TechConfigurations and is based on the available info on the design of the Mi 7.
Earlier leaks have revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will have a notched OLED display and this video render shows just that. There is a 20MP front-facing camera, a speaker, and a sensor housed within the notch. The video also mentions 3D face recognition and shows the notch is hidden during video playback.
There is practically no bezel at the bottom which isn’t surprising since the front camera is at the top. There is also an in-display fingerprint scanner.
We also get to see the bottom part of the phone. Sitting in the middle is a USB-C port and flanking it on both sides are speaker grilles. They are actually stereo in this case.
According to the latest report from Strategy Analytics, the global smartphone shipment has reached 345 million in the first quarter of this year. During the same period, the report suggests that the Apple iPhone X has been the best-selling smartphone.
This is impressive given that the phone’s pricing is on the costlier side as it starts at $999. According to the report, Apple has managed to sell around 16 million units of iPhone X in Q1 2018. And not just the best-selling smartphone, the top four best-selling smartphones are from Apple.
While the iPhone X has grabbed the first spot, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7 stands at the second, third and fourth position in terms of best-selling smartphones globally for the first quarter of 2018. However, while the iPhone 7 accounted for 6.1 percent in Q1 2017, the iPhone X accounts for 4.6 percent.
Juha Winter, a Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, added, “We estimate the Apple iPhone X shipped 16.0 million units and captured 5 percent market share worldwide in Q1 2018. For the second quarter running, the iPhone X remains the world’s most popular smartphone model overall. Apple has now shifted almost 50 million iPhone X units worldwide since commercial launch in November 2017. The Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus shipped 12.5 and 8.3 million units, respectively, for the second and third place. The previous-generation iPhone 7 shipped a respectable 5.6 million units for fourth place. Combined together, Apple today accounts for four of the world’s six most popular smartphone models.”
The fifth position is held by Xiaomi‘s Redmi 5A smartphone, making it the best-selling Android smartphone in the first quarter of 2018. It is then followed by Samsung‘s flagship Galaxy S9 Plus. While the Redmi 5A accounts for 1.6 percent with shipments of about 5.4 million units, the Galaxy S9 Plus accounts for 1.5 percent with 5.3 million units.
Recently, the IDC report reported that iPhone models saw almost 3 percent growth worldwide in the quarter, at a time when the market as a whole fell 2.9%. According to the report from Strategy Analytics, the global smartphone market share saw 2.4 percent decline year-on-year.
The Blackview BV9000 Pro was released a long time ago and I’ve had this phone for more than 3 months. I took it with me when I wanted to have a rugged device that also has great specs and a huge battery. Let’s see how the Blackview BV9000 Pro looks like after 3 months.
Once you pick the Blackview BV9000 Pro up, you will immediately notice this is a rugged phone because of its sheer size and weight.
The metal band and rubberized backplate held up pretty well over the time. I’ve noticed that if you scratch that the rubberized surface, you can polish minor scratches away with a cleaning cloth, which is pretty cool.
The phone has the IP-68 rating meaning that it is water and dust resistant. Also, the rugged body assures that the phone will survive a few accidental drops. I didn’t drop the phone on purpose but I used it in the rain or underwater a lot and the device still works fine.
I found the display to be very good overall. While the sunlight legibility is not the best, it’s pretty good. I also love the loudspeaker that can get really loud and the sound quality is pretty good for a budget device. Other features include the LED notification light and a hybrid dual sim card slot. I found the fingerprint scanner to be quite accurate even though the display could light up a bit faster.
Finally, the phone lacks headset jack, which means that you always need to bring an adapter with you, which is supplied in the retail packaging.
HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE
When it comes to hardware, the Blackview BV9000 Pro is one of the most powerful budget rugged phones out there.
The gaming performance is just great. All the 3D games work without any issues even if you play them on the very highest graphics settings, which is very impressive for a budget phone.
USER INTERFACE
The device has been quite fast on the daily basis even though I’m not a huge fan of redesigned icons in the user interface. I wish Blackview stuck with stock Android but that’s easily fixable using a third party launcher.
IMAGE QUALITY
I also like that the Blackview BV9000 is one of those rare budget phones from China that can take decent daylight pictures even on the cloudy days. The portrait shots are also surprisingly good in comparison to most of the budget Chinese phones I’ve recently tested. Selfies look pretty good but the video quality using both main and front cameras does not impress, even after receiving a few software updates.
TEST NOTES
I didn’t have any connectivity issues with this phone and battery life has been consistently good. I was usually able to get about 7 hours of screen-on time which is a good result.
CONCLUSIONS
In conclusion, I think the Blackview BV9000 Pro is a solid budget rugged phone that held up pretty well over the time. I like it for its design, good overall performance, battery life and even decent cameras. However, I’m frustrated with the video and sound recording quality, and there is no headset jack.
At the end of the day, the Blackview BV9000 Pro is still one of the best options in this price range and I can recommend you check it out, despite the fact that there are a few minor flaws.
Last year China’s Lenovo and Japan’s Fujitsu announced a merger of their PC businesses. The merger has now been finalized.
The merger has resulted in Lenovo owning 51% of the Fujitsu PC arm, the Development Bank of Japan owning 5%, and Fujitsu keeping 44%.
The merger also includes a number of agreements between Lenovo and Fujitsu which includes manufacturing, distribution, brand licensing, and research and development.
Future Fujitsu PCs will still go by the Japanese brand’s name but we won’t be surprised if there is something like “A Lenovo Company” written somewhere on the body or retail box. Fujitsu will also provide after-sales support.
Five months have passed since Google announced Android Oreo Go Edition: a “lite” version of Android Oreo with light apps which can run smoothly even on smartphones with outdated hardware components. After known brands like Nokia and Asus, now even the Chinese domestic brand Cubot is going to launch a handset with Android Go: it will be called Cubot J3. It will be a low-end device with a very affordable price as it will sport an entry-level specs sheet.
The Chinese company has published some renders showing its upcoming Android Go and we even know its main specs. The images seem to show a handset with a full metal unibody design, but given that it will be a very cheap Android Go device, it may not be made of metal. Indeed, this company has already released smartphones with glass-like designs and clones which were instead made of polycarbonate. On the other hand, Cubot J3 will sport a tall 18:9 display with narrow bezels and a size of 5 inches.
On the hardware side, it will have a quad-core MediaTek MT6580 chipset, 16 GB of expandable internal storage (up to 128 GB with micro SD) and just 1 GB of RAM, which should be enough as Android Go is supposed to run smoothly even on phones with 512 MB of RAM. The main camera will offer a resolution of 8 MP, while the selfie snapper will have a 5 MP resolution. There will be a 2000 mAh battery, a dual SIM dual standby slot and no fingerprint reader. Cubot J3 will be released in three hues: black, blue and grey. We still do not know its listing price, but we believe it will surely cost less than 100 bucks. The device is expected to hit the global market through several online stores starting from late May.

Months ago, Honor declared that Honor 8 would not get Android Oreo due to “hardware limitations”. But after realizing how much fans and users were left disappointed by this declaration, the company seems to have changed the idea. A new Honor 8 firmware has just leaked on XDA Developers and it is based on Android Oreo. This means that the company may be testing the latest version of the operating system in order to roll out the final update soon. The Android Oreo firmware is customized with the EMUI 8.0 just like every Huawei and Honor handset running Oreo.
A piece of code contains a reference to Project Treble and this reveals that the phone may indeed support Google’s Project Treble once it will be updated to Android Oreo. In case you don’t know, thanks to Project Treble the operating system gets divided into two frameworks: one contains the core operating system and another includes all the company’s customization. Thanks to this division, it will be easier for Huawei to release fast and constant updates. But there is also to say that Honor devices do not get a great long-term support, so we do not know how much Project Treble will be useful after Honor 8 will be updated to Android Oreo.
Note that the leaked firmware is a testing version of the Chinese firmware of Android Oreo, and all the above-described features do not regard the global version, at least for now. At the moment, we do not have any info about an eventual roll out date of the global Android Oreo update. But at this point, the chances to see the latest Android version on the Honor 8 in the global market are pretty high. Honor 8 was released in mid-2016 with Android Marshmallow out of the box and it was updated to Nougat in early 2017.
Not leaving a chance for its rivals to coast past the company, Samsung is cementing its ties with partners across the world. The company’s Vice-Chairman Lee Jae-yong, who is also the de facto head of the conglomerate has reportedly met with Chinese business leaders during his trip to Asia’s No. 1 economy.
The source revealed that the Samsung Czar arrived in China earlier this week and met with leaders at the helms of affairs of major Chinese IT companies, including BYD Auto, Huawei Technologies, and Xiaomi. The trip to China is apparently to forge deeper ties with local partners. Samsung’s Chief Executive was accompanied on the trip by Kim Ki-nam, the head of Samsung’s device solution division, which oversees its crucial chip business, and Lee Dong-hoon, who leads Samsung Display.
There is hardly any doubt that the visit is connected directly to Samsung’s chips and display businesses which get most of their patronage from China apart from Apple. The display and chips businesses face stiff competition from local manufacturers in China and even Japan but Samsung isn’t letting go so easily. Interestingly, Samsung’s Vice-Chariman Lee Jae-yong recently visited Europe and Canada on a trip that symbolized his full-fledged return to corporate affairs after being incarcerated for almost a year for bribery. An appellate court granted him a suspended sentence in February this year.
After launching the OPPO Find 7 smartphone in 2014, OPPO has never released a new Find series phone. The company seems to be focused more on selling Oppo R, F and A series smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer had reportedly trademarked “OPPO Find X” moniker in the previous month. This suggests that the company could be prepping up to launch a new Find series flagship smartphone.
A recent market research has shown that the worldwide smartphone shipments have declined as the Chinese smartphone market has encountered slowdown in Q1 this year. Another report has revealed that Xiaomi has dethroned OPPO to gain the fourth largest smartphone brand in the world. In the recent past, OPPO has mainly concentrated on launching low-budget, mid-tier and upper mid-range phone. Since the company has recently trademarked the OPPO Find X name, it is being speculated that it could be working on a flagship phone.
The successor of the OPPO Find 7 was expected to debut as OPPO Find 9. The probable reason why the company may launch Find X instead of Find 9 is that it could be arriving with topnotch specs.
A leaked invitation of an upcoming OPPO event has surfaced been recently spotted on Weibo. It reveals that the event will be mainly centered on 5G connectivity and 3D structured light technology. If the OPPO Find X releases this year, it may not carry support for 5G, but is may feature 3D structured light for 3D facial recognition. In the recent past, OPPO has demonstrated its advanced technologies such as super-fast 15-minute flash charge and 5x lossless zoom. The Chinese company is has also recently filed patent for in-display fingerprint scanner. There is a possibility that the OPPO Find X may arrive with all these advanced features.
A new 360 Mobiles device with the model number 1807-A01 and believed to the soon-to-be-launched 360 N7 has received certification by China’s 3C. Apart from the certification, a photo of the 360 N7 battery has also leaked online and it is a 4,280mAh cell.
360 Mobiles has a reputation for stuffing big battery on its models so we are not surprised. The 360 N6 Pro packs a 4,050mAh battery and so, this one is slightly bigger. The battery will sure offer enough juice for more than a day’s use. We can’t say for sure if this is indeed the N7’s battery.
The 360 N7 is well positioned as a premium midranger, considering the features that are already out in the open. The N7 is is expected to feature a 5.99-inch full-view display and would be powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 chipset. Just recently, the AnTuTu score of the N7 appeard online showing a score in the realm of Snadragon 660 chipset. A leaked render was also spotted onlne suggesting the device will pack a triple camera setup at the rear but that isn’t likely going to happen. The device is also expected to come with MediaTek’s latest PumpExpress fast charging technology with an 18W charging power. The 3C certification seems to confirm that.
The devicie will be unveiled on May 8 at a ceremony holding in Beijing, China.

This means those who live in the UK can purchase their Xiaomi devices from the carrier network. The Nokia 6.1 is official in the US and will go on sale from Sunday. Despite the new name, the Nokia 6.1 is basically the Nokia 6 (2018) model that was announced back in January in China. The new model features important upgrades especially in the processor department as compared to the 2017 version, making it a capable mid-ranger under $300.
Nokia 6 2018
One of the biggest highlights of the Nokia 6.1 is in the software department. The phone will be running Android One, so the phone won’t ship with any bloatware. As for the design, there are only a few gentle updates. So the fingerprint sensor goes to the back, the size is slimmed down by a few millimetres, and the phone gets orange accents to add a splash of color to its all black design. In general, we can say that the Nokia 6 (2018) aka Nokia 6.1 is better looking than its predecessor. You can check out our hands on with the Nokia 6 (2018) black model from here.
In the hardware department, the biggest change is in the processor. Nokia has updated the lineup with Snapdragon 630 instead of the low-end SD430 found on the 2017 model. Further, there’s 4GB of RAM and a USB Type-C port. These improvements does increase the price tag of the handset. The new Nokia 6.1 will cost you $269 instead of the $229 launch price of its predecessor. You can purchase the phone from Amazon or Best Buy from Sunday. Note that Best Buy is offering $50 off via its AT&T Pre-paid offer.

It was revealed in the previous month by Android Headlines that apart from the LG G7 ThinQ and the rumored LG V40 smartphones, LG is also working on a phone called LG V35 ThinQ which is codenamed as Emma. Today, the same publication has shared leaked renders of the LG V35 smartphone to reveal its design.
The LG V35 ThinQ renders reveal that it features a tall display that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is speculated that the V35 features a FullVision OLED display of 6 inches. However, it is unlikely to feature P-OLED display that were made available on the LG G6 and LG V30 smartphones in 2017. The Quad HD+ resolution supporting display of V35 ThinQ is expected to offer a screen-to-body ratio of 80 percent.
The rear side of the LG V35 ThinQ features a horizontally arrange dual camera setup. It is expected to feature the same pair of 16-megapixel camera sensors that is available on the LG G7 ThinQ. The V35 ThinQ is rumored to be packed with various AI capabilities for camera.
The V35 ThinQ may also feature 32-bit ESS Sabre 9228 quad DAC and far-field voice recognition like the G7 ThinQ. The backside of the V35 also features a fingerprint reader. The handset will be available in Black and Grey color variants.
In the U.S., AT&T won’t be releasing the new LG G7 ThinQ. The publication claims that the LG V35 ThinQ will be exclusively available through AT&T in the country. AT&T is also mentioned at top-left corner in the display of the LG V35 ThinQ in the first render.
There is no information available on the launch date of the LG V35 ThinQ. However, the handset is supposed to break cover after the recently unveiled LG G7 ThinQ. The LG V35 ThinQ may debut on August 10 as the date is mentioned on its display in the first render.
