Recently, Apple unveiled the anticipated 15-inch model of the MacBook Air, which is similar to the regular 13-inch model of the MacBook Air but with a bigger screen.

While the device was highly anticipated for a couple of years, customers’ actual demand for the 15-inch MacBook Air is not matching up. In fact, the sales numbers are so low that the company is cutting production.

According to the latest report coming from DigiTimes, sources in the supply chain claim that sales for the new 15-inch MacBook Air are as much as 50 percent lower than the Cupertino-based tech giant’s predictions.

The report further adds that because of the low demand, the company is scaling back production, but it is not yet known if Apple has made the move to lower the production numbers or is still in consideration.

This is the first model of the Apple MacBook Air to feature a larger 15-inch display. Prior to this, users would need to purchase the more expensive MacBook Pro models if they wanted a larger than 13-inch screen.

As per the listing of the 13-inch MacBook Air on the Apple website, the device now has support for the newer Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, which is said to be faster and more reliable.

The development comes after the Cupertino-based technology giant introduced the new 15-inch MacBook Air laptop with support for Bluetooth 5.3 at WWDC last month.

Thanks to the latest standard, the device will now have more reliable connections with Bluetooth accessories and improved power efficiency, which can contribute to longer battery life.

Bluetooth 5.0 is now a bit older technology, launched back in 2016. On the other hand, Bluetooth 5.3 was introduced in 2021 and a lot of Apple devices use it, including the iPhone 14 series, Apple Watch Ultra, AirPods Pro (2nd Gen), and the latest iPad Pro models.

A few days ago, at WWDC 2023, Apple officially announced the highly-anticipated 15-inch MacBook Air. Now, the device is finally available for purchase through Apple’s official website and select retailers.

The pricing of the 15-inch MacBook Air starts at $1,299, but students and teachers can get a $100 discount. The laptop is being offered in four color options — Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Space Gray.

The newly launched 15-inch MacBook Air comes with several upgrades compared to the 13-inch model, including a larger 15.3-inch Liquid Retina Display that offers a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a peak brightness of 500nits. The display is True Tone enabled, which means that it automatically adjusts the white balance to match the ambient light.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Apple M2 chip which is a significant upgrade compared to the M1 chip, offering a faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. As per the company’s claims, the new chipset is up to 18% faster than the M1 chip.

It also comes with a six-speaker audio system and a FaceTime HD camera. Similar to the other models, this one too has a notch on top of the display and features a flat-edge chassis. In terms of memory, the device can be configured with up to 24GB of RAM and 2TB of internal storage.

Apple is apparently working on a new MacBook Air model that will feature its cutting edge M3 series chipset. The company just recently unveiled a new 15 inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip during the WWDC 2023, but a new report hints at its successor.

However, it appears that this model will get a refresh that features an even more powerful chipset. As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone maker’s new updated line will soon begin to manufacture MacBook Air models with the next gen M3 processors.

The report added that this new laptop model will launch sometime in 2024, which is in line with one of our previous reports. For those unaware, the M3 SoC is the successor to the M2 and offers various improvements like energy efficiency and performance upgrades. Furthermore, this chipset will be based on the 3nm TSMC process that will power a 13.6 inch and 15.3 inch MacBook Air. The M3 chipset will likely feature a core count similar to the M2, so we can expect the base M3 to feature an 8 core CPU and up to 10 core GPU.

Apart from this, Gurman also added that Apple is working on a new iMac model as well as a MacBook Pro, which will also be powered by the M3 chipset. The report adds that the upcoming iMac with M3 chipset will be similar to the M1 iMac that was launched in the past. Gurman believes that the iMac will be launching around the first half of next year, although, the launch of the M3 based MacBook Pro model is still unclear.

It’s been some time since we heard rumors about Apple working on a larger MacBook Air, putting it on par with the Pro model when it comes to display panels. Now, it looks like Apple MacBook Air 15-inch model is all set to get launched in the coming months.

As per the latest report from Ross Young, the company has bumped up the production as per the plans. He adds that the panel production for the device started in February and increased in March, and now it has been increased again.

He expects the MacBook Air 15-inch model to go official in late April or early May. However, it appears a bit early, and we speculate the device to get announced during WWDC, and the market availability could be a couple of weeks or months after the announcement.

It appears that the company isn’t planning for a Spring event this time; otherwise, that was also an option to reveal this new laptop. Now, an announcement in the month of June during the Worldwide Developers Conference looks more likely.

As for the design, it is expected to be similar to the M2-powered Apple MacBook Air. The laptop is said to feature a 15.5-inch display panel, similar to the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro, which has now been discontinued. For the processor, the device is expected to be available in M2 and M2 Pro options. We expect to get more details in the coming weeks, ahead of the launch.

Apple has been working on its new MacBook Air models for some time and now we finally have information about the potential launch timeframe for the laptops.

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based technology giant is expected to launch the new MacBook Air 13-inch and 15-inch models in June at WWDC.

The Apple M2 chipset and the MacBook Air models powered by it were announced at WWDC last year, so it won’t be a surprise if the company continues the launch the new M3 chip and MacBook Air models at this year’s WWDC.

A report from 9to5Mac reveals that the 13-inch MacBook Air, with codename J513, is already in the works and will come powered by the yet unannounced M3 chipset. The company will also launch a 15-inch MacBook Air with the codename J515, powered by the M3 processor.

Earlier, there were reports about the MacBook Air 15-inch model powered by the M2 and M2 Pro chips to launch in April, but new reports indicate that there won’t be any such models. It appears that the 15-inch MacBook Air will get the entry-level M3 chip similar to the 13-inch model, with an 8-core CPU.

There is also no evidence that there will be a more powerful version of the chips for the upcoming MacBook Air models, like the M3 Pro. Apart from the MacBook Air, the company is also expected to launch an updated 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M3 chipset.

Apple has been rumored to be working on a larger-screen MacBook Air for some time, and now it appears that the company is gearing up to launch the new device soon.

As per the new report from DSCC analyst Ross Young, the company has started panel production of the 15.5-inch MacBook Air this month, suggesting that the device may launch in early April.

Earlier, Ross Young, as well as Bloomberg, reported about the possibility of a 15-inch MacBook Air getting launched in Spring this year but the exact launch date remains unknown.

Although the device is expected to launch in “early April” as the panel production is now underway, there’s also a possibility that an announcement and pre-orders could happen sooner.

When launched, the 15-inch MacBook Air would be the largest ever screen size for the MacBook Air and would be presumably offered alongside the existing 13-inch model.

The most recent MacBook Air was launched in July last year, powered by the Apple M2 chipset and a starting price of $1,199. As of now, there’s no information available about the specifications of the upcoming laptop.

Apple has also started working on the next-generation chipset, Apple M3, which TSMC is manufacturing using a 3nm process. It is not yet known if the upcoming larger-screen MacBook Air will be powered by the M2 or the unannounced M3 chipset.

Apple recently announced a couple of new devices powered by the M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets, and now the Cupertino-based technology giant is working on launching devices powered by the third-generation Apple Silicon chips.

According to the report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is working on new MacBook Air and iMac, which will come powered by the yet unannounced Apple M3 chipset.

The report also goes on to add that the M3 chipset from Apple will be manufactured using the 3nm process and is expected to be announced later this year or early next year. The same timeline also applies to the launch of these two devices — Apple MacBook Air and Apple iMac.

A few months ago, it was reported that the Apple M3-powered MacBook Air in 13-inch and 15-inch models, as well as a new iMac, could get launched early this year. But going by the developments, it appears that we aren’t going to see the launch of this new chipset and devices anytime soon, not at least for a few months.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which manufactures chips for Apple, has reportedly improved the 3nm processor’s speed by 15 percent and reduced power consumption by 30 percent compared to the 5nm chips. The company has already started mass-producing 3nm chips and could start manufacturing them in the United States in 2026.

Apart from MacBook Air and iMac powered by M3 chips, reports indicate that the company is also expected to launch MacBook Pro models powered by the M3 Pro and M3 Max processors in the first half of 2024.

Apple has been working on revamping its MacBook Air lineup by introducing two new models, including a smaller 12-inch model and a larger 15-inch model.

Now, a new report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that the 12-inch model isn’t coming this year, but the 15-inch MacBook Air is expected to go official later this year.

As of now, not much has been revealed about this upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air. However, display analyst Ross Young had previously said that Apple would start production of 15.5-inch display panels for the MacBook Air in the first quarter of 2023. If the timeline remains unchanged, then the device could be officially released as soon as this spring.

Coming to the design, we do not expect the company to launch a redesigned model, given that the MacBook Air was recently updated. So, the device will pretty much have the same design as the current models.

Internally, the laptop could be powered by the M2 chip or the M2 Pro processor, which Apple has not yet announced. The new M2 series chips are expected to be announced soon, which will power a few more Mac devices this year.

The 12-inch MacBook Air, which was previously stated to launch this year or in 2024, is no longer in the company’s short-term plans, which means that the device isn’t coming anytime soon.

Apple made the announcement that the Apple MacBook Air with the M2 chipset is now available in India. Earlier today, the laptop’s availability was made public in the United States. The new MacBook Air was introduced earlier this year at WWDC 22. Along with the 13-inch MacBook Pro, Apple unveiled the new MacBook Air featuring a new M2 chip. Unlike the new MacBook Pro 13-inch, the Air M2 received significant advancements over its predecessor.

The Air M2 features an entirely new design. Apple also updated the webcam and added a new charging port to the laptop. Let’s have a look at the pricing of the device in India, specifications, and other facts.

The brand-new MacBook Air M2 from Apple is now formally offered for sale in India. The cost of the new MacBook Air is Rs. 1,19,900. Students, professors, and university employees can purchase the M2 Air for a starting price of Rs. 1,09,900 under the education program.

There are several RAM and storage combinations available for the MacBook Air. Its base model comes with a 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM. Upgrading options for RAM and storage are 16GB and 2TB, respectively.

The device comes in two GPU options- an 8-core + 8-core GPU model or an 8-core + 10-core GPU model. The 10-core GPU variant with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD would set you back Rs 1,49,900. The top-spec variant with 24GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD will set you back Rs 2,49,900.

A new 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with 2560×1664 PPI and 500 nits of peak brightness is featured on the M2 Air. The 1080p webcam has a large notch at the top. The M2 chipset makes the laptop’s CPU quicker by 18% and the GPU potent by 35%.

The MacBook Air should provide users with up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge. A 30W converter will be included with the base model from Apple. 35W dual-Type-C adapters will be included with the 10-core 512GB configuration. A 67W rapid charging adaptor is an upgrade option available to customers.

The Air M2 includes two USB Type-C ports and enables MagSafe charging. A 3.5mm headphone jack and a quadruple speaker arrangement are also included. The M2 Air is available in the colors Silver, Starlight Space, Grey, and Midnight and weighs roughly 1.2 kg.

Last month, Apple introduced the new M2 chipset that is powering the company’s newly launched MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops. While the MacBook Pro is available for purchase, the relatively cheaper Air model didn’t go on sale until now.

The new Apple MacBook Air powered by the M2 chipset was available to pre-order for the last few days and today, the laptop officially goes on sale in several markets.

Apple MacBook Air continues the fanless design and looks quite similar to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models of last year. Instead of the regular 13.3-inch display, the laptop has a new 13.6-inch display with up to 500 nits of brightness. The screen is said to be 25 percent brighter than its predecessor and it comes with support for 1 billion colors.

Powered by the new M2 processor, Apple claims that the Final Cut Pro performance is nearly 40 percent faster than on the M1 Air and Photoshop is up to 20 percent faster. There are two Thunderbolt ports on the left side, along with a headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones.

It also comes with an updated 1080p camera along with four speakers and three microphones. Apple said that there’s also support for Dolby Atmos spatial audio. The Magic Keyboard now has a full row of function keys with Touch ID and Force Touch trackpad. It also has added support for the MagSafe connector for charging.

The laptop measures just 11.3 millimeters thick and weighs 2.7 pounds (1.2 kilograms). As for the battery life, the company is promising up to 18 hours of video playback and with an optional 67-watt power adapter it can charge up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.

The new Apple MacBook Air has a starting price of $1,199 for the base model and goes up to $2,499 for the top-end model. This makes it a bit more expensive than the M1-powered MacBook Air launched a couple of years ago.

A few weeks ago, Apple announced the new M2 chipset that is powering the company’s newly launched MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops. While the MacBook Pro is available for purchase, the company hasn’t revealed exact launch date for the Air model.

Now, a new report from MacRumors, citing sources from retail, claims that the new Apple MacBook Air powered by the M2 chipset will be available for purchase from 15th July.

The new Apple MacBook Air has a starting price of $1,199 for the base model and goes up to $2,499 for the top-end model. This makes it a bit more expensive than the M1-powered MacBook Air launched a couple of years ago.

It continues to have a fanless design and looks quite similar to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models of last year. Instead of the regular 13.3-inch display, the laptop comes with a new 13.6-inch display with up to 500 nits of brightness. The screen is said to be 25 percent brighter than its predecessor and it comes with support for 1 billion colors.

Powered by the new M2 processor, Apple claims that the Final Cut Pro performance is nearly 40 percent faster than on the M1 Air and Photoshop is up to 20 percent faster. There are two Thunderbolt ports on the left side, along with a headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones.

It also comes with an updated 1080p camera along with four speakers and three microphones. Apple said that there’s also support for Dolby Atmos spatial audio. The Magic Keyboard now has a full row of function keys with Touch ID and Force Touch trackpad. It also has added support for the MagSafe connector for charging.

The laptop measures just 11.3 millimeters thick and weighs 2.7 pounds (1.2 kilograms). As for the battery life, the company is promising up to 18 hours of video playback and with an optional 67-watt power adapter it can charge up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.

Apple has four different MacBook models available in the market. The company recently unveiled the next-generation MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro which come powered by the company’s latest Apple Silicon M2 chipset.

Now, as per the latest report, Apple is gearing up to launch two new models of the MacBook laptop in the next year and some details about these devices have leaked.

Apple is expected to launch a new 15-inch MacBook Air and a 12-inch MacBook but which type of device it remains unknown. As for the 15-inch MacBook Air, when launched, it will be the biggest MacBook Air from the brand to date.

In fact, the size of the MacBook Air laptop powered by the M2 processor is also slightly bigger than its predecessor. It now comes with a 13.6-inch screen instead of the usual 13.3-inch display on the laptop.

Coming to the design, it is being reported that the 15-inch model of the MacBook Air will be similar to the 13.6-inch model, which means that the tapered frame that the ‌MacBook Air‌ used for years will be eliminated.

As for the launch timeline, the 15-inch MacBook Air could go official in early 2023 at a planned Spring event while the 12-inch model is expected to launch towards the end of 2023 or in early 2024. Apple is expected to announce its new MacBook Air at WWDC. Rumors have hinted that the device could come with multiple new color options similar to the one that the company is offering for the 24-inch iMac.

Now, a new report coming from Mark Gurman claims that there won’t be any new color options for the new MacBook Air. Instead, it will continue to be offered in the standard Space Gray, Silver, and Gold color options.

He further adds that the reports about multiple color options are likely to be “exaggerated” and there could be only the typical MacBook color options, in addition to the gold color which could be more of a champagne or a new blue option.

Apple has scheduled WWDC 2022 to take place from 6th June to 10th June and if the company makes hardware announcements, then the MacBook Air will be a part of it. If that doesn’t happen, then he belives it could be because of the supply chain issues.

Recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had said that the 2022 MacBook Air will have a new form factor design and more color options. He also said that it will not feature a tapered design but it could get shipped it with a more MacBook Pro-like design.

The laptop is also expected to be thinner and lighter, and may even launch in color options similar to the 24 inch iMac, which is available in blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange, and purple color options. Apple has already confirmed that the company will kick off its annual developer conference WWDC 2022 on 6th June where the company will introduce several new technologies and features it has planned for its devices.

Apple has been busy upgrading its Mac devices and after launching the new Mac Studio, it appears that the Cupertino-based technology giant has yet another device that will soon make its debut.

A new report coming from Display Supply Chain Consultants claims that Apple is developing a 15-inch MacBook Air which is expected to get launched next year, i.e. in 2023.

As of now, not much information is available about this new MacBook Air that is expected to launch next year but analyst Ross Young says that it could go official along with a slightly-larger 13-inch MacBook Air.

This isn’t the first time reports about a 15-inch MacBook Air have surfaced online as Mark Gurman of Bloomberg had reported last year that Apple could be working on a MacBook Air with a larger display.

Apple had considered a larger 15-inch MacBook Air as early as 2008 but the company didn’t move forward with that and instead, went with the 13-inch model and so far, it has been available in that screen size only.

On the other hand, the MacBook Pro comes in three different sizes — 13-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch but out of these three models, the 14-inch and 16-inch models come packed with more powerful configurations compared to the 13-inch model.

This year, the company is expected to launch a redesigned 13-inch MacBook Air with more color options to choose from and a new M2 chipset. The device was rumored to get announced this month but now it is expected to get launched in the coming months.

Apple has been launching a lot of Mac devices lately as the company is transitioning to using its own Apple Silicon chips instead of Intel processors. After launching the MacBook laptops powered by the M1 chip a couple of years back, it is now time for a refresh.

The Cupertino-based technology giant was reported to announce a new MacBook Air powered by the M2 chipset at its March event that took place a few days ago. That didn’t happen and now there’s an update about when the device could go official.

As per the latest report, the new Apple MacBook Air has been delayed and is now expected to officially launch in the second half of this year. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims in the Power On newsletter that Apple planned to launch its new ‌MacBook Air‌ with “an all-new design, MagSafe, the M2 chip, and more” at the end of 2021 or in early 2022, but this timeframe has now slipped to the second half of 2022.

Not only that, but he also claims that the new 14-inch and 16-inch models of the MacBook Pro will now get launched next year, i.e. in 2023, and will likely be powered by the M2 Pro or M2 Max processors.

Another report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple could start mass production of the new MacBook Air in the late second quarter or early third quarter. This is pretty much in line with the launch happening in the second half of this year.

To sum up, the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with a 13-inch display are expected to launch in H2 2022 and should go on sale soon after getting announced. They are most likely to be powered by the next-generation Apple Silicon’s M2 chipset.

The company is also expected to launch a new Mac Mini powered by the M2 processor along with the new MacBook models. In that case, it would mean that the Mac lineup from the company has an upgrade cycle of two years given that the M1-powered Mac devices were first announced in 2020 and new models are set to launch this year.

Apple has been focused on revamping its MacBook lineup and the efforts seem to be paying off as the company shipped around 6.5 million MacBooks in the third quarter of this year, increasing its market share.

Recently, it was revealed that the upcoming MacBook Pro 2021 models which are set to get launched in just a few hours, will feature a notch on top of the display. It is also being claimed that Apple is planning to cleverly hide the notch from marketing materials.

Now, the same leaker who revealed information about the MacBook Pro 2021 display notch, is claiming that the Apple MacBook Air 2022 models, set to launch early next year, will also come with a notch on top of the screen, reports MacRumors.

He further claims that the upcoming MacBook Air‌ will “look much better” as the company is planning to eliminate the current wedge design. For those who are unaware, the wedge design refers to the MacBook Air body that transitions from thicker at the back to thinner at the front. He says that the next ‌MacBook Air‌ will have a “very round and light” design.

Other reports related to the upcoming MacBook Air models indicate that the technology giant is planning to launch a thinner and lighter version of the machine with thinner bezels than what we have in the current model.

As for the notch on top of the display, unlike the iPhone, this is not for housing sensors for the Face ID functionality. It is said that the notch will house a new 1080p webcam, an ambient light sensor, and an indicator light.

A recent report claims that the next-generation MacBook Air will come with a Mini-LED display with thinner top and bottom edges. It is also being claimed that the laptop will come powered by the next-gen Apple M2 chipset and have a MagSafe branded magnetic power cable for the new charging port.

After the frequent screen cracking incidents on the new Apple M1 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air came to light, law firm Migliaccio & Rathod has escalated the process on their end to see if there’s a scope for a class action suit against Apple. The firm has begun asking users to complete a questionnaire in order to get more details in this regard.

Apple M1 MacBook users have been troubled by an issue where the screen is cracking for no apparent reason. The affected lot headed to customer support only to end up listening to vague and unsatisfactory responses from the company representatives. Adding to which the law firm states, “Many users allege that they have opened their devices from the closed position without applying any undue pressure, only to find dramatic cracks in the retina display, often accompanied by black bars running across the screen.”

Migliaccio & Rathod has a valid point and further says, “Whatever the case, users are left with little choice but to spend upwards of $600.00 to have their display repaired, with no guarantee that the screen crack defect won’t reoccur at a later date,”

Apple may have messed up things in the backend but what escalated this issue is the inconvenience in after-sales service from the company. Spending extra to fix a problem that you had little to do with is the base of the story.

This isn’t the first time Apple has been slammed by a class-action suit. Earlier, Apple admitted to throttling down older iPhones and agreed to have a $500 Million settlement. If the law firm is able to establish a strong base after its investigation, Apple will have one more action lawsuit coming their way, this time for cracking display issues.

The law firm has its history too. Three years ago it investigated a potential lawsuit against Microsoft for a screen flickering issue in the Surface Pro 4‘s but later on, dropped its plans after Microsoft offered a replacement program.

As of now, there’s information about how many M1-powered devices are impacted by this issue. Also, Apple is yet to confirm this Bluetooth-related connectivity issue.

Another set of users are also complaining about battery life, disputing the claim made by Apple. At the time of launch, the company had said that the new MacBook Pro powered by the M1 chipset can offer up to 20 hours of battery life.

Some users are saying that they are only getting around five hours of usage before the battery life drops to 10 percent. However, we will have to wait for more reports related to such issues to determine if the problem is limited to specific devices or not.

U.S technology giant Apple has finally launched a new updated version of the MacBook Air. The laptop is Apple’s bestselling and cheapest laptop model and it is o surprise an updated version is coming now. 

The Apple MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch Retina Display with a resolution of 2560x1600pixels. The laptop also comes with trimmed down bezels that is 50% narrower than those of its predecessor. The laptop also comes with a modern-looking design that has glass coverage up to the edges. Apple still retains the FaceTime camera at the top but the screen has some improvements as it can show 48% more color.

It utilises the 4th generation butterfly keyboard which Apple says is more precise and responsive than ever. Its keys are individually backlit. The trackpad is now Force Touch, with 20% more surface area. Even the speakers also got some upgrade as it is 25% louder and come with two times the bass of its predecessor. The MacBook Air packs two Thunderbolt 3 ports, through which you can connect a 5K display or even an eGPU if you so wish. The new MacBook Air is made entirely from recycled aluminium, and it has 17% less volume than the older model. Its 10% thinner at 15.6 mm, and it weighs just 2.75 pounds (that’s 1.24 kg).

In addition, the laptop is embedded with the T2 chip which first made its debut on the MacBook Pro. The T2 chip powers the Touch ID and ensures that the Touch ID software loaded at boot hasn’t been tampered with and also enables Hey Siri voice assistance. The laptop is powered by an 8th-generation dual-core Intel Core i5. It also comes with 1.5TB of storage and up to 16GB of RAM. The laptop is touted to last 12 hours for web browsing and 13 hours when playing movies off iTunes.

The MacBook Air comes in gold, space gray, and silver and is already available for pre-order. The prices starts at $1,199 and it will officially go on sale November 7.

Apple was expected to commence volume production of its new budget-type MacBook Air in the second quarter of the year but the tech giant will now commence that in the second half of 2018, according to sources in the Taiwan supply chain This shift will affect the supply chain as they will stack up high material inventories and low capacity utilization before Apple starts to take shipments probably in the third quarter.

The sources hinted that Apple had informed supply chain partners that mass production of its new notebook model for 2018 will not kick off until the second half of the year, but failed to explain why it was rescheduled. The planned new MacBook Air will have a slim design, and come with Retina high-resolution screen and Intel’s latest notebook processor. Unit price for the new model is expected to be lowered from US$999 to US$899 or down further to US$799, which in turn may push up sales of MacBook series by over 10% in 2018 to regain part of market shares held by Chromebooks, according to market observers.

Apple’s MacBook Air is one of its most popular offerings from the US-based company. However, the company hasn’t done much for its improvements in recent years. That is about to change soon.

According to the latest report from Apple analyst KGI Securities, Apple is planning to launch a new cheaper variant of the Apple MacBook Air in the second quarter of this year.

The primary reason for such move from the US-based tech giant seems to increase the sales volume of its computing device. According to KGI Securities, the new offering could help Apple to push MacBook shipments up by 10-15 percent this year.

Currently, the MacBook Air is being sold for a starting price of $999. The latest mode in the series was unveiled last summer and comes with a faster 1.8GHz Intel processor. While the line celebrates its tenth year in 2018, it has only received incremental updates so far.

Along with the 1.8GHz Intel i5 processor, the base model of the MacBook Air packs 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, and Intel HD Graphics 6000. Unlike the 12-inch MacBook and the MacBook Pro models, the MacBook Air does not feature a Retina Display.

The report about the cheaper MacBook Air comes at a time when there were rumors suggesting that Apple will discontinue MacBook Air series in 2018 and will instead focus on the 12-inch MacBook series. But, its clear that there exists a market for MacBook Air, which is the most popular laptop in the market that runs macOS, maybe because it’s cheaper than the MacBook Pro and powerful than the 12-inch MacBook.

A report from TendForce claims that Apple has overtaken Asus in global laptop shipments, moving up from fifth to the fourth position. In the third quarter of 2017, the company shipped 4.43 million units of its laptops.
