Vivo’s X20 Plus UD released at the beginning of the year as the first commercially available phone with an in-display fingerprint scanner is now joined by phones from Huawei, Xiaomi, and Meizu.

While the technology does work the same way in all phones, some manufacturers have adopted special ways to make it faster and less power draining. One of such manufacturers is Xiaomi whose in-display fingerprint technology present in the Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Mi 8 Pro adopts an additional feature to give it an edge over that of other manufacturers.

This post will explain how Xiaomi’s in-display fingerprint technology differs from that of Vivo. For this comparison, we’ll be pitting the Vivo X21 UD against the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition as they both use the same fingerprint sensor which is supplied by Goodix and Synaptics.

[envira-gallery id=”213590″]

Types of fingerprint sensors?

There are two main types of fingerprint sensors used in phones. They are the optical sensor and the capacitive sensor. The optical scanner has an image sensor that captures a picture of the fingerprint on the scanner and compares it to that stored on the phone. If it matches, it unlocks the phone.

The duration from capture to unlocking is a fraction of a second. The in-display fingerprint scanner used by Xiaomi and Vivo are optical sensors so they work using the same principle.

In-display fingerprint scanner

So we have established how the optical fingerprint scanner works but when placed under the display, things are a bit different. An in-display fingerprint scanner currently only works with OLED displays as the sensor can scan the fingerprint through the OLED dots. An LCD display uses a backlight which won’t allow the sensor to see through the screen.

Vivo X21 vs Mi 8 Explorer Edition

Reviews have shown that the fingerprint scanner in the Vivo X21 UD isn’t as fast as that of traditional fingerprint scanners that are not placed under the display. It requires your finger to stay on the display for a little longer before it scans and matches. This is understandable as the whole technology irrespective of manufacturers is still new. As the technology improves, the duration taken to unlock the device should be shorter.

However, that isn’t the only flaw of the Vivo X21 UD. The scanner also uses up more power. This is because the sensor is always pinging the screen to know if a finger is present for scanning.

For the Mi 8 Explorer (and Mi 8 Pro), Xiaomi decided to find a solution to these problems. It came up with an additional sensor – a highly sensitive pressure sensor.

The pressure sensor is doing two jobs here – first, it reduces the time taken to unlock the device as you don’t have to keep your finger on the screen for as long as required by the Vivo X21. Its high sensitivity helps it detect the faintest of touches from your finger which then prompts it to wake the fingerprint sensor for scanning.

Secondly, the fingerprint sensor is only active when the pressure-sensitive sensor wakes it up. It is not constantly scanning for a finger like the Vivo X21 which means it isn’t consuming as much battery. These features give Xiaomi an edge over Vivo’s own devices with in-display fingerprint scanners.

Notwithstanding, we believe Vivo is also working on new ways to improve its next-gen in-display scanners which should appear in its devices slated for next year.

Now, Vivo has confirmed that it will also release the new version of Android update to its devices in the fourth quarter of this year.

However, the company has not yet provided a precise timeline for the Android Pie update. While the Chinese phone manufacturer has not provided the list of devices that will receive the update, it seems that the Vivo X21 could be the first device from Vivo to receive the Android 9.0 update.

The company’s current flagship smartphone — Vivo Nex, which comes with the unique elevating front-facing camera, is also expected to be among the first batch of phones from Vivo that will receive the Android 9.0 Pie update. In a statement, the company said:

Designing for consumers’ needs continues to be Vivo’s top priority. Upgrading to the latest Android Pie operating system to deliver better mobile experience is therefore an area Vivo is working on bringing to consumers as soon as possible.

Apart from Pixel-series phones, the update has also been released by Essential for its Essential Phone soon after the official announcement. A few other phone manufacturers, including OnePlus, Nokia (HMD Global), Oppo, Vivo, and Sony have also announced to roll out the Android Pie update to their devices. Xiaomi‘s Android One phones — Mi A1 and Mi A2-series will also receive the update.

The Android 9.0 Pie, which was available in beta phase since March this year, comes with a number of improvements, including new personalization features, battery-saving optimizations, and tools that help tracking time users spend on the phone.

There is the standard set which only has just the phone; there is a gaming set which includes a gamepad similar to Motorola’s Moto Gamepad mod; another version comes with a smart band; the fourth comes with a scented candle and a bottle of aromatherapy oil.

The fourth version makes for a great gift if you are looking for something special for the woman in your life. The whole package includes a box that contains the candle and oil and a separate box that holds the phone.

Today, Vivo has confirmed that it will be selling the Vivo X21 and X21 UD smartphones in the same new color beginning from July 20. The Chinese manufacturer is now receiving pre-orders of the X21 and X21 UD through its official online store.

The below image shows that the Vivo X21 and X21 UD Night Purple editions are respectively priced at 2,998 Yuan and 3,298 Yuan. The newly introduced Night Purple color variant looks like Aurora blue-purple color gradient of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer claims that the Night Purple is inspired by the night view of the Bolivian Salt Lake. The reflection of the starry sky also produces a similar dreamy color.

The Vivo X21 and Vivo X21 UD are packed with the same specs. However, the only major difference between the two phones is that the X21 UD model features an in-screen fingerprint reader.

The Vivo X21 duo houses a 6.28-inch Super AMOLED display that supports FHD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The Snapdragon 660 SoC is present under the hood of the device. Both phones include 6 GB of RAM and internal storage of 128 GB. The X21 smartphone also comes in a lower variant that features 64 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM.

The handset has been released in the Asian country in a new lively hue: Glare Red. The specific variant released in this color is the one with the in-display fingerprint reader, and it carries a price tag of 3600 Yuan in Taiwan, which roughly translates into $554. The device retains the same design and the same specs sheet of the other color variants already in the market, even though it may look way more attractive for some people.

Vivo X21 features a shiny glass back and an aluminum frame, as well as a notched display with a very high screen-to-body ratio. The screen has a size of 6.28 inches and it shows images at a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. On the hardware side, it features a midrange Snapdragon 660 chipset, that is an octa-core processor by Qualcomm running at a max clock frequency of 2.2 GHz. It is supported by 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage depending on the specific configuration. It even features a dual camera setup on its back with pretty nice performance.

The dual camera is composed of a 12 MP primary sensor with a f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 5 MP sensor with a f/2.4 aperture. The front camera has a 12 MP resolution and a f/2.0 aperture. The front camera supports facial recognition, an additional authentication system (in case you do not like the in-display fingerprint reader) which is able to recognize 1024 points for a very safe authentication. The battery has a capacity of 3200 mAh and it supports fast charging, while the operating system installed out of the box is Android 8.1 Oreo customized with Funtouch OS 4.0, a custom iteration of Google’s operating system with several additional features.

Thanks to a very innovative chip released by Synaptics, if you own this phone you can unlock it through fingerprint recognition by simply touching the display. So, the sensor is embedded right into the display as there is no space for a Home key due to the full bezel-less design. However, in-display fingerprint readers are slower and less efficient than the traditional fingerprint readers which often put them at an operational disadvantage.

A new update which has just been rolled out on the Vivo X21 is now improving the fingerprint reader experience by making it safer and more efficient. According to the official changelog released, the new update will improve the fingerprint reader processing logic, improving the security and efficiency of the authentication process. The improvements to the fingerprint reader are not the only ones implemented through this new update of Funtouch OS (the customized Android fork made by Vivo). With this update, the company has added sticky notes and made some optimizations to the driving mode making it more user friendly.

Further, the update brings Funmoji, a set of customized emojis working through AR. In a similar way to Apple’s Animoji, the user can create emojis based on its facial expressions. The update rolled out on Vivo X21 also contains optimizations to the system layout and to the icons’ priority in the status bar. There are also some improvements with regards to the system resource scheduling mechanism and the system stability and efficiency. Given its size, we suggest you to download the update while you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Their strongest point is the quality price ratio of their handsets as they are not priced like the pricey Huawei flagships but they are still the best choice for many users thanks to their performance and cameras. We compare the OnePlus 6 vs Vivo X21 to see how they differ in terms of specs and features.

Design

Let’s say that OnePlus 6 has a better build quality and Vivo X21 has better looks. OnePlus 6 has a wonderful glass back for the first time for its flagship and it is splashproof even though the company failed to give an official IP rating. But the company said that it can survive to rain and drops in puddles, so this is enough for your everyday usage. On the other hand, Vivo X21 has a higher screen-to-body ratio and its bezels are almost absent. It is even higher than iPhone X which has a full borderless design. Note that X21 is the only one which comes in a variant with a fingerprint reader embedded in the display.

Display

Even though their prices are moderate, these phones have wonderful displays. Both are AMOLED panels with incredibly brilliant color and deep blacks. And they have exactly the same size and the same resolution: 6.28 inches with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. There is a notch, but it helps to reduce the bezels. OnePlus 6’s display supports DCI-P3 and sRGB color gamut, and we believe it is a slightly better screen.

Hardware/Software

Among these phones, the real flagship is the OnePlus 6 due to its stunning hardware side. It has an octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset by Qualcomm, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage depending on the configuration. It is one of the fastest and smoothest Android phones in the market, and Vivo X21 can not compete with it in terms of performance. But it is still a good high-end phone thanks to its Snapdragon 660 SoC and 6 GB of RAM.

Camera

Both are camera phones without any doubt. They have wonderful dual cameras on their backs as well as great selfie snappers. OnePlus 6 comes with a 16 + 20 MP dual setup which has bright f/1.7 aperture and even OIS. It can even record 4K videos at 60 fps. Vivo X21 has a f/1.8 dual camera with dual pixel PDAF which can capture an incredible quantity of detail, but it is not at the same level. OnePlus 6 is a way better camera phone with more detailed shots and less noise in every light condition.

Battery

OnePlus declared that it is not interested in making phones with huge batteries. The company chooses a battery which can last one day in order to release devices with the lowest thickness possible. And that is what it did with the OnePlus 6, a device with a satisfying but not very long battery life. The same is with Vivo X21 and its 3200 mAh lithium unit. Both phones feature a fast charging technology. So, there isn’t a winner when it comes to batteries as they have a similar battery life and a similar charging speed.

Price

OnePlus 6 has been launched in the global market with a starting price tag of €519/$529 for the base variant with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Vivo X21 is currently a Chinese and Indian market exclusive. Recently, it was launched in India with a price tag of $530: exactly the same.

OnePlus 6 is the winner of the comparison and, with these prices, it is also the best value for money device. But in the coming months, we believe that X21’s price will decrease much more than the one of OP6, making it a worthy opponent in terms of value.

But what is inside its beautiful shell? Thanks to the first teardown photos surfaced online we can finally see under its wide and notched display. According to the source, if you own a unit of the Vivo X21, in order to open the phone you need to remove the SIM card tray, then remove two screws by using a normal screwdriver.

After that, you have to heat around the display a bit, then use a paddle to create a gap between the display and the backplate. You can now separate the screen comfortably starting from the right side. Given that this phone features an in-display fingerprint reader instead of the classic back-mounted one, you won’t need to disconnect the fingerprint reader in order to completely separate the backplate from the rest of the phone. Once you are at this point, it will be a bit harder to disassemble the phone as there are several protections for water-resistance and heat dissipation.

You will need to disconnect the motherboard cables, open some graphite shields, then disconnect the screen cable. With all the cables and screws removed, it is possible to completely separate the motherboard from the handset. Then you will be able to remove the battery, the bottom module and the speaker. In the images, you can see all the most important components powering the device. Vivo X21 is equipped with a Snapdragon 660 SoC, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Photos also show the dual camera module, as well as the 12 MP selfie camera and the 3200 mAh battery.

In the month of March, the Chinese manufacturer had launched the Vivo X21 and Vivo X21 UD featuring an under-display fingerprint scanner in China. For India, the company has decided to launch the Vivo X21 UD smartphone as Vivo X21. Apart from in-screen fingerprint reader, the Vivo X21 has some exciting features such as notched display that offers high screen-to-body ratio and AI powered dual rear cameras.

Design, Display and In-Screen Fingerprint Scanner

The Vivo X21 that measures 154.5 x 74.8 x 7.4 mm is flanked with 3D glass on its rear and it features a metallic frame in between. The device weighs 156.2 grams.

The Vivo X21 houses a 6.28-inch Super AMOLED FullView display that produces FHD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The company has claimed that the handset offers a screen-to-body ratio of 90.3 percent. The display support sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamut. The X21 is also equipped with Always-On Display feature that shows notifications and time on the screen without turning on the display. The notch present at the top portion of the screen houses a selfie snapper, an earpiece and some sensors.

Vivo X21i measures 154.37 x 74.98 x 6.99 mm and it weighs 159 grams. The device will be considerably thinner than the standard X21 even if the look doesn’t change much. While the standard version features an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, this one has an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 SoC manufactured on a 12 nm production process, which can run at a max frequency of 2 GHz and includes a Mali G72 MP3 GPU.

According to a Weibo tipster, the Chinese manufacturer is now rumored to be working on a MediaTek Helio P60 powered edition of the X21. The new variant is speculated to debut as Vivo AI Smart Photo X21i or Vivo X21i. The tipster seems has the same unannounced smartphone to post about the new X21 variant. The X21i along with Helio P60 has been spotted on Geekbench benchmarking platform.

The tipster has claimed that the Vivo X21i will debut soon. However, there are no details available on its launch date or pricing. On Geekbench, the X21i has scored 1,499 and 5,777 in single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. The Geekbench listing reveals that it is powered by ARMMT6771V/C which refers to the MediaTek Helio P60 SoC. The chipset is coupled with 6 GB of RAM and the handset is running on Android 8.1.0 Oreo.

There is no information available on the other specifications of the Vivo X21i. However, it is likely that the X21i will feature the same specs and design. Hence, it is expected to arrive with 6.28-inch S-AMOLED display that offers FHD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The X21 comes in 64 GB and 128 GB storage models. However, there is no confirmation whether the X21i could be also arriving in two storage variants. The smartphone is expected to include 12-megapixel dual camera setup, 12-megapixel front-facing camera and 3,200mAh battery.

The only major difference on the X21i could be the presence of the new Helio P60 that will bring some more AI capabilities to the phone. Moreover, the handset is speculated to arrive with a cheaper pricing.

AnTuTu had earlier revealed the X21 benchmark score to be 143707 points. However, the screenshot of a new benchmark test result for the Vivo X21 UD version shows a lower score of 137,967 points. That is a difference of 5,740 points. We can’t say why the difference but it is likely that AnTuTu tested the smartphone when there wasn’t any app installed because usually, the benchmark score gets affected when there are several apps installed or running on the smartphone. The screenshot also shows that about 3GB of the 6GB RAM space is already in use.

Despite the difference, the AnTuTu score of 137,967 points still falls within the range of other Snapdragon 660-powered models. The chip is thus well suited to handle heavy games and apps, coupled with a large 6GB RAM and 128 of storage space.

A new wonderful notched handset by the BBK-owned hi-tech giant is going to be showcased on March 22 in China. On the day after the official announcement, the company will hold an event in India in which it will reveal its pricing and availability in the Asian peninsula. Aesthetically, the V9 will be very similar to the X21.

According to an official image, it will have a tri-bezel-less display. Even though it will be a midrange it will offer an incredibly high screen-to-body ratio and an iPhone X-like notch which will house the front camera and the earpiece. The specifications of Vivo V9 have already been confirmed on the official site of the company, so we know almost everything about it. It will feature a 6.3-inch panel with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and a 19:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, it will sport an octa-core Snapdragon 626 chipset by Qualcomm, supported by 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage expandable with a micro SD up to 256 GB. The micro SD slot will be a dedicated slot, so you will be able to use two SIMs and a micro SD at the same time. The fingerprint sensor will be placed on the back, but there will be facial recognition in case the sensor placement is not comfortable for you. The rear camera department will be composed of two sensors with resolutions of 16 and 5 MP, while the front camera will be a single snapper with a 24 MP resolution.
The Vivo X21 comes with the traditional fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone while the Vivo X21 UD comes with an under display fingerprint sensor similar to the recently launched Vivo X20 Plus UD. Apart from this fingerprint sensor, rest of the specifications are same on both phones.

The Vivo X21 features a 6.28-inch Full HD+ display with 2280 x 1080 pixels screen resolution and an unusual aspect ratio of 19:9 because of the presence of a notch on the top side. The display covers majority portion on the front panel and has ultra narrow bezels around the display.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz. It packs 6GB RAM and comes in two storage options — 64GB and 128GB. The phone also supports microSD card slot, which enables users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB.

As of the camera department, the phone comes with a dual camera setup at the back which consists of a 12-megapixel camera lens and a 5-megapixel secondary lens with an LED flash. On the front side, there’s a 12-megapixel camera sensor for taking selfies and video calling. The camera comes with artificial intelligence and Vivo’s own Rubiks Cube technology.

The phone also supports face unlock feature. One of the interesting offerings of the phone is a smart assistant. The company has introduced Jovi, which is Vivo’s assistant based on artificial intelligence technology. For enhanced audio experience, Vivo has included AK4376A Hi-Fi chip.

Connectivity options on the device include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Dual-band Wi-Fi (2X2MIMO), Bluetooth v5, GPS, and microUSB. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with company’s own FunTouch OS 4.0 custom skin on top. Both versions of the phone are fuelled by a 3,200mAh battery.

Screenshots of a document were posted online yesterday and they reveal most of the details of Vivo’s upcoming flagship.

The leak confirms that the Vivo X21 will launch in two variants – a regular version with its fingerprint scanner on the back and a UD version with its fingerprint scanner underneath the display. The rest of the specs are the same.

The X21 will have a 6.28” display FHD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. That aspect ratio means it will have a notch just like the OPPO R15.

A 2.2GHz octa-core processor, which is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 processor, will handle tasks. It will be matched with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Storage can still be expanded if you wish by up to an additional 256GB via a MicroSD card slot.

The Vivo X21 will come with Android 8.1 Oreo and pack a 3200mAh battery. It will also have Bluetooth 5.0, dual band WiFi, USB 2.0, OTG, GPS and face unlock.

The Vivo X21 UD with an in-display fingerprint scanner will be available in Ice Drill Black and Ruby Red. The regular X21 will come in the aforementioned colors in addition to Aurora White.

The Vivo X21 which has been rumored to come with a Snapdragon 670 processor has appeared on Geekbench sporting a Snapdragon 660 SoC. Notwithstanding, we won’t rule out the possibility of a new processor when the phone launches on Monday, March 19. The phone is said to come in multiple variants and the one seen on Geekbench is the variant with an under-display fingerprint scanner.

The Vivo X21UD A was benchmarked early today. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo with the Snapdragon 660 and 6GB of RAM driving power under the hood.

Even though the processor is the same as last year’s, the RAM has been bumped up from 4GB and the fingerprint scanner is now underneath the display. It also runs Android 8.1 Oreo, the latest version of Android. These are significant changes no matter how you look at it.

With respect to benchmark scores, the Vivo X21 UD scored 1608 points in the single-core test and 5852 points in the multi-core test.

We are still keeping our fingers crossed on a Snapdragon 670 variant but at least we are sure a SD660 model will also launch alongside it if at all.

The company has recently confirmed that the Vivo X21 will be equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. There is a possibility that the handset may feature a half-screen under-display fingerprint reader like the newly unveiled Vivo APEX flagship. Today, Qualcomm China has teased on its Weibo account that the Vivo X21 will be featuring a Snapdragon chipset.

The Vivo X20 smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 660 chipset. Recent reports have claimed that the Vivo X21 would be either featuring the recently announced MediaTek Helio P60 SoC or the unannounced Snapdragon 670 chipset. The below shown Weibo post shows the cooperative relationship between Qualcomm and Vivo. Hence, it is being speculated that the Vivo X21 could be arriving as the phone powered by Snapdragon 670 chipset.

Last year, the Snapdragon 660 chipset had debuted on OPPO R11 and R11 smartphones. The upcoming OPPO R15 and OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition were rumored to feature Snapdragon 670 chipset. However, OPPO has recently confirmed that the OPPO R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition will be respectively featuring MediaTek Helio P60 and Snapdragon 660 chipset. Hence, there is a possibility that the Vivo X21 could be the first Snapdragon 670 chipset powered smartphone.

The company recently stunned the industry when it announced the Vivo APEX concept flagship model packing a Snapdragon 845 chip, pop-up selfie camera and bezel-less design. The company recently started teasing a new model dubbed X21 which is billed to launch on March 19. Th company had earlier released a posted pointing at the launch date. Now, a new teaser has been released on the official Vivo Weibo page which confirms the presence of an under-glass fingerprint sensor on the Vivo X21.

Apart from confirming the presence of an under display fingerprint sensor like the one featured on the Vivo X20 Plus UD version, the Weibo post invariably reveals that the model is already in production. Weibo usually detects the smartphone from which a message was posted and in this case, the smartphone is identified as Vivo X21 Screen fingerprint phone. So, the model won’t be launched while we still have to wait a couple of months before it will go on sale just like the APEX.

Back to the teaser, the size of the fingerprint on the picture seems to also confirm speculations that the fingerprint sensor will cover up to half of the entire display. This is expected to be more flexible and an upgrade over that of the Vivo X20 which is restricted to just a part of the screen. The Vivo X21 is also expected to pack a 6.01-inch AMOLED display with a screen ratio as high as 94%. The smartphone is also expected to come equipped with Vivo’s newly developed Super HDR technology.

ITHome, a popular Chinese tech site says it has received an invite for the launch of the Vivo X21 scheduled for March 19. The event is to hold in the historic town of Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province.

Not much is known about the Vivo X21 at the moment. A leaked poster from yesterday shows it will have an under-display fingerprint scanner like the X20 and also vertically arranged dual rear cameras.

Key details like the chipset, camera configuration, and battery capacity are still unknown. We are actually eager to know which processor powers it seeing as the Snapdragon 660 already powers its predecessors and the Snapdragon 670 hasn’t been released.

There is a chance we may find out these details before the launch, probably from a TENAA listing.

Then there’s the Vivo Apex as well, one of the most beautiful concepts we’ve seen this year, but even that’ll take time to hit the markets. This means that the company has a good few months in between wherein it can launch its next major flagship model. That’s likely going to be called as the Vivo X21, considering the recent 3C certification of a few models under the same name.

Now a new poster of the Vivo X21 has been spotted online revealing a key feature of the device. Apart from the dual cameras that can be spotted at the back of the phone, the advertisement clearly highlights the fingerprint icon on the screen. This means that the Vivo X21 is likely going to be equipped with an under display fingerprint sensor. Given that it’s going to be the direct successor to the Vivo X20, seeing the Synaptics ClearID sensor inside its screen won’t be a surprise. Further, at the time of its 3C certification, the Vivo X21A model was listed in four different variants, and one of them included a UD (under display fingerprint) variant. This also means that there could be regular versions of the Vivo X21, without the in screen fingerprint that could be cheaper.

That’s all we know about the X21 flagship so far. However, considering its high-end placement, expect nothing less than Snapdragon 670 and 6GB of RAM inside the device. More details should be revealed in the coming days, so stay tuned!

Right after OPPO teased its upcoming R15 and R15 Plus, Vivo X21 has received the official Chinese 3C certification. According to the listing, the upcoming handset will be released in four different variants: Vivo X21, X21UD, X21A and X21 UD A. We guess that the first two variants will be the most powerful and expensive ones, while the third and the fourth one will be their affordable alternatives.

The two UD variants will feature an under-display fingerprint scanner just like the Vivo X20 Plus UD, thanks to the chip launched by Synaptics around the end of 2017. So, with the Under-Display versions of the Vivo X21, it will be possible to unlock the phone just by touching the display. According to the latest rumours, the device will have a custom borderless display supplied by Samsung. At least the first two variants of the handset, i.e. the X21 and the X21 UD, are expected to come with the octa-core Snapdragon 670 SoC by Qualcomm.

This processor is still not official, but given that Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 700 series at MWC 2018 we guess that SD670 too will be unveiled soon. Vivo X21 is also tipped to come with 18W fast charging, but it was expected given that Snapdragon 6xx usually support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology. We do not know whether the X21 and X21 A will come with a notch.

Recent leaks have already shown a Vivo V9 with a notch, which is similar to the upcoming Oppo R15 and R15 Plus, at least in its front panel. The V9 will offer a 24 MP selfie camera according to a poster spotted in Indonesia. However, considering that there will be a UD version of the X21, expect a very high screen-to-body ratio.
