Xiaomi has launched the new-generation Xiaomi SU7, its updated electric sedan in the premium C-segment. The lineup includes three variants, Standard, Pro, and Max, priced at RMB 219,900 (~$31,867), RMB 249,900 (~$36,215), and RMB 303,900 (~$44,040). The model introduces upgrades across design, performance, safety, and in-car technology.

The sedan retains its dimensions at 5 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and a 3-meter wheelbase. Signature elements such as waterdrop headlights and halo taillights continue. Exterior changes focus on detailing and customization. The car is offered in nine color options, including new finishes like Coastal Blue, Blazing Red, and Viridian Green. A redesigned front grille integrates a 4D millimeter-wave radar and includes wider cooling ducts for improved airflow.

Six wheel options are available, ranging from 19-inch to 21-inch configurations. The 21-inch forged dual-layer rims use a detailed multi-step machining process. The vehicle also adds a 105-liter electric front trunk that supports multiple opening methods including app control, voice commands, and proximity access.

Inside, the cabin has been redesigned with a focus on materials and usability. Most high-contact surfaces use soft-touch finishes. The steering wheel is wrapped in Nappa leather, and metal accents are used across controls and speaker grilles. The car offers four interior themes and a wraparound ambient lighting system measuring 3,636 mm, with multi-zone control and synchronization with music and drive modes.

Seat upgrades include 18-way power adjustment for the driver, along with standard ventilation and heating. The front passenger seat offers an optional zero-gravity mode with massage function. Rear seats feature thicker cushioning, improved recline up to 121 degrees, and redesigned headrests for better support. Acoustic laminated glass is used across all doors, while the Max variant adds further sound insulation.

The SU7 runs on Xiaomi’s HyperEngine V6s Plus motor with a peak rotational speed of 22,000 rpm. It delivers 0 to 100 km per hour acceleration in 3.08 seconds and a top speed of 265 km per hour. Range figures are rated at 720 km for the Standard model, 902 km for the Pro, and 835 km for the Max under CLTC conditions. Energy consumption can go as low as 11.7 kWh per 100 km. Fast charging enables up to 670 km range in 15 minutes, with 10 to 80 percent charging in about 12 minutes.

The Smart Chassis 2.0 introduces adaptive suspension with multiple driving modes and adjustable height. Steering and braking systems have been refined. Features such as wet road detection and anti-slip control improve stability and safety.

The vehicle uses a four-in-one computing platform powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor chips. It supports assisted driving with LiDAR, cameras, and radar. Xiaomi’s XLA architecture enables voice-controlled driving functions and improved environmental awareness.

Safety upgrades include a reinforced body structure using 2,200 MPa steel, nine airbags, and a battery system designed to prevent fire or explosion under extreme conditions. The SU7 is currently limited to the Chinese market, with pre-orders open through Xiaomi’s EV platforms.

The Chinese tech giant is recalling the Standard Edition of the SU7, which were apparently manufactured between 6th February 2024 and 30th August 2025. China’s SAMR (State Administration for Market Regulation) has revealed that some units suffer from a problem that makes them incapable of properly recognizing, warning, or handling extreme navigation scenarios when the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) is active.

To put things simply, this issue can basically cause accidents or collisions if the driver fails to take control on time. Xiaomi has stated that it will fix the issue with a free software update delivered via an OTA roll out. The safety concerns were related to the Level 2 assisted-driving feature of the electric sedan. The company further adds that the Xiaomi SU7 and YU7 SUV models will be getting an upgrade to the latest Xiaomi HyperOS 1.10.0.

For those unaware, Xiaomi has already sold around 340,000 units of the Xiaomi SU7 in its home market of China since it launched in March 2024 in three variants. The crash claimed the lives of three young women and has drawn significant media and public attention.

According to sources, the SU7 was operating in NOA assisted driving mode at around 116 km/h when it hit a kerb and a water-filled barrier during a road construction detour, after which the vehicle caught fire. Xiaomi is cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation but has not yet accessed the accident vehicle. The victims were three university students traveling to Chizhou for a civil service exam. They were in a Xiaomi SU7 Standard, the base model of the SU7 lineup, purchased in May 2024 and delivered on Oct. 19, 2024.

Launched on March 28, 2024, this variant relies on a vision-based Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) system, lacking the LiDAR found in Pro and Max models.

The crash occurred in the Chiqi section of the highway, where ongoing repairs had narrowed traffic into an adjusted lane. This alteration, combined with potential construction debris, may have played a role in the collision.

Post-Collision Details

Social media reports, including a Douyin post by a victim’s mother, claimed the doors locked automatically post-crash, trapping the occupants as the car burned. Xiaomi could not verify door functionality, noting an emergency unlock button exists, but its effectiveness remains unclear. The NOA system’s inability to detect smaller obstacles like cones may have been a factor.

Company Response and Impact

Xiaomi formed an investigation team on March 30, submitting data by March 31. CEO Lei Jun expressed regret and promised transparency and support for the victims’ families.

The company said it formed a special task force immediately, visited the scene on March 30, and submitted vehicle data to police on March 31. Xiaomi clarified it has not yet been granted access to the accident vehicle, dismissing rumours that it had been transported to Beijing. According to internal data, the Xiaomi SU7 was in NOA assisted driving mode at around 116 km/h before issuing a warning and slowing down to 97 km/h before crashing.

The company also stated that AEB (automatic emergency braking) did not activate because the obstacle—a water barrier—is not currently supported by the system’s detection capabilities.

Xiaomi has announced that it’s recalling 30,931 SU7 electric sedans in China due to a software issue affecting the car’s autonomous parking system. The company is rolling out a free over-the-air (OTA) update to address the problem, eliminating the need for owners to visit a service center.

The issue stems from a bug that can cause the autonomous parking system to malfunction. According to Xiaomi, the problem arose on November 14, 2024, when a customer reported that their SU7 experienced unexpected behavior during the autonomous parking process. The car’s detection system was compromised, leading to scratches and collisions during the parking maneuver.

Xiaomi SU7 Recall Details

The recall specifically targets 30,931 units of the SU7 Standard variant manufactured between February 6, 2024, and November 26, 2024. Vehicles with internal numbers BJ7000MBEVR2, XMA7000MBEVR2, and XMA7000MBEVR5 are included in this recall.

Xiaomi traced the cause of the malfunction to a timing synchronization issue within the cloud service that supports the autonomous parking system. The company has implemented corrective measures on the cloud side and added additional safeguards to the smart parking assistance system itself. These steps, according to Xiaomi, effectively eliminate the risk of the issue recurring.

Convenient OTA Update for SU7 Owners

Several new products are incoming

Expanding its hardware lineup further, Xiaomi will reveal a high-end electric scooter series, smart door locks, Wi-Fi 7 routers, and more. In total, there will be 16 new products. 

Xiaomi 15 series RAM/ Price increase

Lei confirmed that the Xiaomi 15 series base model will start with 12GB RAM, up from the previous 8GB. This is to improve the on-device AI performance. 

He also confirmed major improvements in design, power efficiency, and user experience. And with these changes, the Xiaomi 15 series will have a slightly higher price than its predecessor.

Addressing the price increase, Lei Jun says the Xiaomi 15 series still offers exceptional value. He noted that the upgraded 3nm process technology and rising RAM and ROM costs in the supply chain majorly contribute to the price increase.

A new display for new phones

Xiaomi also shared details about its display technology: the entire Xiaomi 15 series will feature a customized M9 luminous material with a dual micro-cavity structure. 

This new panel is claimed to improve luminous efficiency while reducing power consumption. According to Lei Jun, the Xiaomi 15 series uniquely achieves “2K screen to 1.5K screen power consumption,” with further details to be shared during the press conference.

Xiaomi SU7 delivery goals

Lei Jun also shared an update on the delivery timeline for the Xiaomi SU7, reaffirming the goal of shipping 20,000 units within a month. The CEO says the team remains committed to this target and will offer a status update on the first day of each month.

Farley, known for his focus on electrification within Ford, admitted his usual aversion to discussing competitors. However, his extended experience with the SU7 prompted him to share his thoughts.  

“We flew one from Shanghai to Chicago and I’ve been driving it for six months now, and I don’t want to give it up,” Farley said on the podcast. 

“It’s fantastic. They sell 10,000, 20,000 a month. They’re sold out for six months,” Farley said of Xiaomi’s success with the SU7 earlier in the interview.

Xiaomi Motors released its first electric vehicle in March this year. There are also two different battery options – 73.6 kWh and 101 kWh. The initial price of the car is 215,900 yuan (~$29,736) to 299,900 yuan (~$41,307).

For those unfamiliar, the company has sold over 10,000 EVs in June. They have also reportedly ramped up the production to shorten the waiting period. In June the company announced starting double-shift to meet the requirements. The monthly delivery target for the car is 10,000 and the long-term goal for 2024 is also ambitious. The company aims to sell over 100,000 units within this year.

With the increase in production capacity and accelerated delivery of Xiaomi SU7, more than 30,000 units have been delivered so far. A report also speculates that the 100,000 delivery target could be achieved within November of this year. The company is also expected to open 220 new stores in 59 cities across China.

We have already come across numerous rumors about the presence of the Xiaomi SU8. On July 15, an automotive media drew two posters of Xiaomi SU8. One of the posters notes that the “Xiaomi SU8” will be unveiled on July 16. The poster also includes realistic images of the car, which is claimed to be the successor of the Xiaomi SU7.

When the official confirmed that the posters were fake and there was no successor to the SU7 in the works, many people speculated that there could be a Xiaomi SU9. Recently some spy photos surfaced online that were claimed to be Xiaomi’s first SUV. According to a previous report, the car is internally codenamed MX11 and is expected to debut in 2025. The renderings of the SUV made by fans retain many design elements from the Xiaomi SU7. It includes the headlights, door handles, pebble-style laser radar, Saturn ring taillights, and petal-shaped alloy wheels.

According to CNMO, the SUV is likely going to be the company’s second EV. Nonetheless, we are at least one year away from the launch.

That being said, the company sold over 10,000 units of the SU7 in June and is also expected to sell another 10,000 units this month. Xiaomi Auto is reportedly planning to deliver a total of 100,000 EVs this year. The company has ramped up the production of its EVs to fulfill the demand. This production ramp-up aligns with Xiaomi’s earlier announcement of starting double-shift production in June to guarantee a monthly delivery target of 10,000 units. While these numbers are not that high, they are still pretty good for the SU7, which is the company’s first foray into EVs – a relatively young market.

According to the information, Xiaomi is working on its first hybrid vehicle. Reportedly, there are jobs available for the development of the hybrid vehicle. For instance, the company is recruiting engineers who will be responsible for “vehicle thermal management technology route planning and program formulation.” The applicants will need to have more than 15 years of working experience in the automotive industry, 10 years of experience in thermal management integration, and have been responsible for the development of more than two hybrid or extended-range vehicles.

Unfortunately, there is no specific information available regarding the company’s development of a hybrid car. Previously, Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun avoided answering questions about the new car in a Douyin live broadcast. However, there are rumors that Xiaomi’s second car is an SUV model, which is scheduled to debut at the end of this year and go on sale in 2025.

The company also reportedly has plans to launch a more affordable model, which will be priced at around 150,000 yuan, and could officially launch in 2026.

Earlier today (7th June 2024), Xiaomi shared an official statement acknowledging the accident and stating that it is actively cooperating with the police in its investigation. The brand has also launched its own investigation into the Xiaomi SU7, which was involved in this fatal incident. According to local news outlets, the premium EV had suddenly lost control when leaving the parking lot and rushed into other vehicles and pedestrians that were on the non-motorized vehicle lane.

This results in one fatality and three injuries. However, Xiaomi claims that the Xiaomi SU7 wasn’t at fault. The company’s statement claimed that the police retrieved the backend data from the car, which confirmed that the EV was in normal condition at the time of the accident. This included its brake pedal and accelerator pedal functioning at optimal conditions. They further added that they are closely working with the police and will discloe any new information in a timely manner.

Xiaomi then responded to Chinese media, criticizing them for their rash coverage of the incident as they used terms like “vehicle out of control” and “brake failure” without having accurate information. AnTuTu, the well-known benchmark platform for mobile devices, has ventured into the electric vehicle (EV) market with a new benchmark app.  The app objectively evaluates a car’s infotainment system performance by testing its chipset, RAM, and storage. 

AnTuTu also released scores for the top ten vehicles tested in May 2024. The top three positions are currently held by the Zeekr 007 with 1.07 million points, the Xpeng X9 with 965631 points, and the Mercedes EQE with 963130 points.

Several other established EV names are also on the list which include Xpeng P7i in the 8th, Nio ET7 in the 12th, Polestar 2 in the 14th, and Audi Q4 e-tron in the 17th position. 

Furthermore, AnTuTu separately shared the test results of the recently launched Xiaomi SU7 EV, which has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip as the top three EVs. It is paired with 16GB of RAM (12GB allocated for the Android OS) and 128GB of storage. 

With this configuration, Xiaomi SU7 was able to achieve an AnTuTu score of 957833 points. That is somewhat lower compared to the other models with the same SOC, and memory configurations. But it technically places SU7 at the fourth position on the top ten list. Hopefully, we will see it in its earned position in the updated list for July. 

As the app is new, it will take some time to build a comprehensive database of EV benchmark scores. The initial data offers a glimpse into infotainment system performance across various EV brands, but a clearer picture will emerge as more vehicles are tested. 

It will be interesting to see how the rankings evolve and which brands consistently deliver the most responsive infotainment experiences.

This new benchmark adds another layer to the evaluation of electric cars, allowing consumers to consider not just range and horsepower, but also the user experience within the vehicle itself.

A Xiaomi SU7 user has recently asked the company why the 50W wireless charging of the car occasionally feels slow. An official has responded to his question.

The Xiaomi SU7 offers a wireless charging pad that is rated at 50W. However, according to the company’s official, the actual charging speed depends on a number of factors such as compatibility with phone models and the status of the phone during charging.

Only 15W for devices with Qi charging protocol while Xiaomi devices can reach 50W

This may include factors such as the temperature, and an ongoing background process among other things. And this is also applicable to the phone’s own charging system as well.

Speaking of the wireless charging system that SU7 offers, it supports Qi and Xiaomi’s proprietary wireless charging protocol. Not to mention the phone will need to support one of these two in the first place, and will also need to support 50W wireless charging.

Xiaomi devices with support for 50W wireless charging and its proprietary charging protocol can reportedly obtain a maximum charging power of 50W on the Xiaomi SU7 wireless charging pad. However, he noted that the Xiaomi 13 Pro uses a smaller coil and can reach 30W of wireless charging on the SU7’s wireless charging pad.

He added that other Android devices use the Qi protocol for wireless charging and the SU7 offers only 15W wireless charging speed with it. As Apple devices use a specific frequency band of the Q protocol, SU7 can only offer a charging speed of 7.5W.

An inappropriate placement of the phone in the charging pad where the charging coils are not placed directly on top of each other will also hinder the energy transmission and the charging speed regardless of phone brands/models, and charging protocols. This particular condition is also appropriate for every wireless charging system.

Bloomberg (paywalled) is the latest authoritative platform to highlight the development of a second Xiaomi electric vehicle.

The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan was a huge hit when it debuted in China last year. After it was revealed, Xiaomi recorded more than 50,000 orders within the first 30 minutes of going on sale in China later on. Xiaomi Automotive reported that up to 10,000 units of the SU7 were built within the first 32 days of its production. The Xiaomi sub-brand is on track to deliver 100,000 units of the SU7 by the year’s end.

The Xiaomi SU7 comes with an impressive infotainment system consisting of a 16.1-inch 3K central console and a 56-inch head-up display. The model also features Snapdragon-based infotainment software with enhanced AI capabilities in learning driver and passenger behavior. The SU7 also highlights an almost perfect integration with Xiaomi smartphones and other smart devices.

A recent Bloomberg report says Xiaomi is developing a new model that will take the shape of a compact SUV. The report says that Xiaomi has benchmarked its upcoming model against the Tesla Model Y, and this view has been further stated by other sources. The general specifications, battery setup, and onboard tech that will be featured in the model have not been stated yet. The issue has reportedly been fixed

For those unfamiliar with the matter, in the early morning of May 9, an SU7 car was towed to the Changsha Service Center. The store staff checked the car and informed us that there was no mechanical failure/damage to the braking system. After running the “self-inspection” program, the brake failure prompt disappeared and the vehicle appeared to function normally.

Wang Hua stated that it was indeed a misidentification by the software. He further added that the issue has been fixed and there is no need to panic regarding the safety of the car. He contacted an engineer from the Automotive Department to fix the problem. Here’s what happened to the car.

The main braking system of the Xiaomi SU7 was misidentified by the software

After analysis, it was confirmed that the system of the vehicle’s main brake controller (DPB/BCP) was “misidentified and degraded”. It triggered the backup braking method, and the auxiliary brake controller (ESP/BCS) started responding directly to provide braking and deceleration for the vehicle. At the same time, the vehicle’s large screen also prompted a failure of the braking system.

During the use of the backup braking system, the ESP draws the DPB brake fluid to increase the braking pressure for the wheels to stop the vehicle. Because the brake fluid was drawn away from the DPB by the ESP, the pressure of the brake master cylinder decreased rapidly, and the driver could feel it while pedaling.

Because the braking system switches between primary and secondary, the original cylinder pressure value of the main brake comes down to 0. However, the SU7 never lost all braking force. Fortunately, the ESP took control of the situation and there was no loss of control of the vehicle.

Although the car went back to normal, the user was offered a return/exchange of the car. Xiaomi Auto was also willing to cover the expenses incurred due to the return/exchange of the vehicle.

Mr. Wen, a user of the Xiaomi SU7 EV, just released a video showing that his car broke down after just 39 kilometers of journey. He towed the car back to the delivery center. After the initial inspection, no problems were found. The after-sales personnel told him that they were willing to handle the return process of the car, however, he insisted on an exchange.

He informed that he purchased the standard version of the Xiaomi SU7 car at the Xiaomi Auto Delivery Center in Xiang’an, Xiamen City. Naturally, the incident sparked a heated conversation about the new car.

The user insisted on a replacement

The user has shared screenshots of his conversation with the after-sales service. “What I want is a car, not a return. Can’t you reschedule Youxian to produce one for me?” the user asked the after-sales personnel.

The after-sales personnel informed the user that the car needed to be returned to the factory for further analysis so that the company could find out the reason behind the breakdown. He also clarified that it wasn’t possible to repair the car right away. “The cause of the vehicle’s failure needs to be returned to the factory for further analysis, and it is temporarily unable to be repaired.”

The personnel informed that the car will be returned to him after a detailed inspection. It would surely take time, however, according to the company, it is to ensure the quality of the cars. The personnel also apologized to the user for the disappointing car purchasing experience.

Xiaomi after-sales personnel agreed to offer a replacement

However, Mr. Wen insisted on a replacement. Fortunately, after an internal application, the Xiaomi after-sales personnel agreed to offer a replacement to the user. “If the original order number does not change, we will apply to schedule the production of new vehicles according to the original order number in the system.” However, the personnel also informed that there are currently many users arranging orders, and the company cannot promise to deliver the replacement in a short time.

Simply the company wants to find out what caused their car to break down and work on the problem, but offering the user an instant replacement isn’t temporarily possible due to the current high demand.

During the waiting period until the date of delivery of the replacement car, the company agreed to provide transportation rights compensation (150 yuan in cash or an equal amount of points per day, optional).

Lu Weibing revealed the latest delivery results of Xiaomi SU7. As of April 20, the number of Xiaomi SU7 orders has exceeded 70,000 units. “Today, Mr. Lei announced at the Xiaomi Investor Conference that as of April 20, the number of Xiaomi SU7 orders has exceeded 70,000 units!”

Xiaomi Auto has commenced the delivery of the SU7 car starting with Beijing and Shenzhen. Reportedly a nationwide delivery will be opened in the near future.

Lei Jun previously noted that the SU7 delivery centers cover 29 cities across the country, which reportedly covers the main markets for electric vehicles. Reports also hint that the delivery centers will cover 40 cities by the end of 2024.

At this point, Xiaomi Auth has a total of 59 stores across 29 cities covering Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Changsha, Taiyuan, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and more.

Redmi launched the phone in China on April 10 along with the Redmi Pad Pro tablet, which is now officially on sale. The Redmi Turbo 3 is the first phone of the performance-focused Redmi Turbo series and is available for a starting price of ¥1,999 (~$276).

Now the news is that the Redmi Turbo 3 has achieved its first sales target. According to the official information, the phone is the “first-week sales championship” among all the recently launched devices in its price range. Within 30 minutes of the sale, the phone achieved the highest sales record of this year in the price range of ¥2000 to ¥3000.

Wang Teng, the general manager of the Redmi brand, expressed gratitude on Weibo for the support received, announcing that the Turbo 3 has successfully reached its initial sales target. He further mentioned that on April 23, a fortunate first-sale buyer of the phone will be selected and awarded a one-year right to use the Xiaomi SU7 car. A widely circulated photo online appears to show the first reported accident involving the new Xiaomi SU7 electric car. The photo shows a collision between a Xiaomi SU7 and a white Mercedes-Benz sedan.

The images depict significant damage to both vehicles. The Mercedes-Benz, which appears to be white, sustained a completely shattered right headlight, a bulged hood, and deformation of the front bumper and air intake grille.

The Xiaomi SU7, bearing the brunt of the impact on its right side, has two damaged doors and deployed airbags.

“Big Lizi Qiqili,” a well-known social media influencer in China, clarified that the Xiaomi SU7 belonged to him and that a colleague was filming when the accident occurred. He stated that both vehicles had green lights and that the traffic police placed full responsibility on his driver.

Following the accident, the blogger offered an update on the car’s condition. They reported that an emergency call was immediately made from within the car to confirm the situation. The airbags had deployed, but none of the interior accessories appeared to have fallen off.

Additionally, the rear flat panel remained intact, the door handles functioned normally, and the doors themselves opened without issue.

A later update confirmed the SU7 was taken to an after-sales service center for repairs. Thankfully, both the driver and the other party involved in the accident escaped with minor injuries. The blogger concluded by reminding everyone to prioritize safety while driving.

Regarding brakes, Xiaomi cautioned against misleading online comparisons of brake pad size. Images circulating online compare the front calipers of the SU7 Max to its rear brake pads. For clarity, Xiaomi confirmed the SU7 Max uses Brembo high-performance four-piston calipers for strong braking performance. They also use NAO brake pads to strike a balance between performance and comfort. Xiaomi claims the front brake pads offer a larger contact area than similar luxury sports sedans, resulting in superior braking and durability.

Users don’t specifically need a Xiaomi phone to unlock the car

Regarding keyless entry, the SU7 uses Bluetooth to unlock the car when the phone’s Bluetooth key is activated. With this function enabled, users can simply approach the car, pull the handle, and the door unlocks automatically. The car can also lock and unlock as the user approaches or leaves the vehicle. While this feature works with most phones, aggressive background app management by some phone brands might stop the Xiaomi Auto app, causing unlocking failures.

Also, Xiaomi addressed the built-in refrigerator in the SU7. This refrigerator can continue to operate even after the car is turned off. Users can set it to run for up to 24 hours on battery power through the car’s settings. The refrigerator’s temperature and even its door can be controlled remotely using the Xiaomi Auto app. It’s a pretty neat feature, if you’re on a road trip and want to keep drinks cold even after you leave the vehicle. Xiaomi Auto hosted another session of their “Q&A program” to answer user inquiries about the Xiaomi SU7 electric car. The company revealed that the SU7 prioritizes long journeys with its Super Power-Saving Mode. When the estimated range dips below 50km, the car prompts you to activate this mode, maximizing battery life. Manual activation and deactivation are also available.

The Power Saving mode also turns off heated seats and steering wheel

Super Power-Saving Mode reduces power consumption by limiting functionalities. This includes a capped speed of 90km/h, smoother acceleration, and reduced air conditioning performance. Comfort features like heated seats and steering wheel, ambient lighting, and heated mirrors are also deactivated.

To further conserve energy, the mode disables intelligent driving assistance, parking functions, entertainment systems, and even the car refrigerator. Don’t worry, Super Power-Saving Mode deactivates automatically when the estimated range climbs above 300km. Drivers can also temporarily override the speed limit for short bursts when needed.

Also, the SU7 features a camera positioned between the steering wheel and instrument screen to monitor driver alertness. This camera detects signs of fatigue or distraction like closed eyes, head turns, or phone use.

If fatigue or distraction is detected, the system issues voice warnings and displays on-screen reminders to refocus on driving. Xiaomi assures users that the system only analyzes driver behavior locally within the vehicle, with no image data recorded or transmitted externally. Users who don’t require the driver fatigue/distraction reminder can disable the function or the camera itself through the car’s central control screen settings.

Xiaomi has recently unveiled its first electric vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7 in China. The car has shown amazing charging speed when tested with Huawei’s supercharging station. The car comes in three different versions, namely the SU7, SU7 Pro, and the SU7 Max. A user of the Xiaomi SU7 Max conducted the charging test at a Huawei supercharging station and shared the result on the internet.

The test shows that the power input to the car stabilizes at around 180kW. As a result, the car gains 10 kilometers of range in only 30 to 40 seconds.

According to the insights shown on the control screen, at 216km range the remaining charging time was only 26 minutes. At this point the power intake was 181kw, the charging voltage was 753V, and the SU7 Max was consuming enough energy to run one kilometer every 3 to 4 seconds.

According to some other tests, a 600kW charger can charge the SU7 Max from 0% to 99% in 47 minutes, with a maximum and average charging power of around 276kW and 140kW respectively.

For those wondering, yes, Xiaomi has also shared official data from their tests. The company notes that the SU7 Max can reach 220km and 510km of range within 5 minutes and 15 of charging respectively. It means 1.7 to 2.2 km of range per 3-4s of charging, which is higher than what the recent test with Huawei’s charging station shows.

Xiaomi officially stated that they have tested the Xiaomi SU7 with more than 2,000 different models of charging piles from different brands. Reportedly, the company also cooperated with third-party institutions to conduct charging tests and according to the result, the car is compatible with most of the options available.

Lei Jun said that if the first sales target of the Redmi Turbo 3 is achieved, Wang Teng will be rewarded with an SU7. People on social media had some confusion regarding the reward to Redmi’s general manager. Redmi’s general manager Wang Teng clarified the significance of the sales target here.

Wang Teng also noted that the Redmi team had done a great job with the Turbo 3 and that he is confident that the phone will do well in sales, with everyone’s support. He also noted that if the Redmi team achieves its target with the Redmi Turbo 3, he will offer some benefits to the consumers as well.

Speaking of the new phone, it is positioned as a flagship killer and is the first product of Redmi’s new turbo series. This phone will equip the newly launched Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, which is practically a cut-down version of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and is designed to power performance-focused mid-range devices. From March 28th to June 30th, 2024, regular Xiaomi staff can enjoy significantly reduced interest rates on car loans. The annualized rate dips as low as 1.6%, compared to the standard 3.0% offered to external customers. Additionally, employees can put down as little as 15% and stretch out the loan for up to 60 months. To snag this perk, employees simply need to order their SU7 through the Xiaomi Auto App and wait for a delivery expert to contact them regarding the financing application. There, they can select the exclusive “Employee 1.6%” plan and submit their application.

The employees can buy the car with annual interest rates as low as 1.6%

While Xiaomi employees get the sweetest deal, the company isn’t leaving regular customers out in the cold. Standard financing options are also available for external users purchasing any SU7 model before June 30th, 2024. These plans offer down payments ranging from 15% to 50% with corresponding loan terms of 12 to 60 months, all at a fixed annualized interest rate of 2.5%.

The Xiaomi SU7 seems to be a hit, generating significant interest with over 100,000 orders placed and over 40,000 locked in. It appears Xiaomi’s entry into the electric car market is off to a promising start. According to reports, Xiaomi is going through “capacity bottlenecks” or supply chain issues regarding the production of its first EV, the Xiaomi SU7. However, besides testing the car, the company is also taking measures to mitigate the supply chain issues and ramp up production to its best.

On April 3, the company held the first batch delivery ceremony of the Xiaomi SU7 at one of the Xiaomi Automobile production facilities located in Yizhuang, Beijing. Chinese publication Securities Times (translated) reported that the company is “going all out to increase production capacity, fully mobilize supply chain partners to ensure supply, and steadily promote the early delivery of existing and future orders.”

According to the initial production schedule, monthly production is anticipated to surpass 3,000 vehicles in March of this year, increase to between 4,000 and 5,000 vehicles in April, and then stabilize at 6,000 vehicles by year-end. Not Xiaomi Motors has reportedly asked suppliers to increase production capacity to a total of 10,000 units per month.

It’s reportedly the high-end Max version of the SU7 that requires a focus on ramping up production. The recent sales of the SU7 models have also reportedly exceeded the company’s expectations. Notably, in December last year, Lei Jun noted that he definitely has expectations regarding the success of the Xiaomi car, but he also emphasizes the possibility of the product not checking all the boxes when it comes to user preferences. Surprisingly, the new product is doing fairly well in this regard.

In today’s delivery ceremony just after a few days from the launch in China, Lei Jun said that more than 100,000 people have already chosen their EV. Xiaomi Motors has officially stated that they are currently in a state of “overwhelming orders”.

According to reports, Xiaomi has requested its suppliers to increase production to a staggering 10,000 units per month, with a focus on higher-end variants of the SU7. The decision is said to have been made after initial sales of the EV massively exceeded expectations.

The original production plan reportedly aimed for 3,000 vehicles per month by March, gradually increasing to a stable 6,000 per month by the end of 2024. However, the overwhelming demand for the SU7 in China looks to have rendered this plan insufficient. If Xiaomi continued at the original pace, delivery times could become excessive.

Xiaomi Motors has publicly acknowledged the production shortfall, stating that the company is “making every effort to increase production capacity and speed up delivery.” The pressure is on, as the current delivery cycles of different SU7 models range from 19 to 32 weeks, which is up to 7 months.

Xiaomi’s EV success has also been reflected in the Hong Kong stock market, where the company’s shares surged by nearly 15% before settling at a 10.17% increase.

The SU7’s blockbuster launch saw an astonishing 88,898 units sold within the first 24 hours. Reports from a prominent Chinese car blogger on Weibo suggest an average of 1,800 to 2,000 orders per store with a lock-in rate of 35-40%.

The Xiaomi SU7’s strong start indicates a promising future for the company’s automotive venture. Whether Xiaomi can maintain this momentum and establish itself as a major player in the global EV market remains to be seen, but this early success is certainly a positive sign.
