New Nubia Smartphone Leaks – Oppo R7 Clone?

Nubia is quite a popular Chinese brand, established by a tech giant ZTE. We have all seen great devices, which have a decent price tag. In turns out that the company does not want to settle with their devices portfolio as one of the general managers has recently announced that the company may introduce a new – My series devices line as early as in July.

According to some reports, the new My series smartphones will concentrate on design and build quality. Also, some of them may be female-oriented.

To support these rumours Weibo user @Felix has leaked a few spy blurry shots of upcoming Nubia device. The leaked photo suggests that this device has some clear inspirations from the Oppo R7 in terms of design. Also, it uses the same materials, which mainly include metal and glass.

In addition, we can see that the device spots a signature Nubia home button with pulsing light effect, a very slim body and the back shell uses a gold colour metal material. Moreover, it looks like a new smartphone uses a 2.5D glass technology.

It is said that Nubia will launch this device next month, although the exact date is not disclosed. We will keep you posted on the latest news and all the updates.

In order to improve the toughness of the headset, the Kevlar fiber material was added in manufacturing the headphone wire. Thus, it should prolong the life of the cable and makes it more sturdy. What is more, the headphones have a flat cable design.

How To Install Google Play/Services on Letv Smartphones (Letv One/One Pro/One Max)

We all know that we have so many great devices that are coming out in China. However, many of them don’t have Google Play/Services pre-installed out of the box. Sometimes, there is an easy way to do it, other time you have to wait for a particular workaround.

Of the devices that need to get Google Play installed manually are Letv Le, Le 1 and Le 1 Max. They are all beautiful devices with some killer specs sheet, but this shortcoming is something users in the West can’t live without. In case you missed Letv Le 1 (One/S1/X600) review, you can check it out here. Also, please stay tuned as I already have the Le 1 Pro in my hands and working on another review.

A lot of you guys have asked me how to install Google Play Services on Letv smartphones, so I decided to make a short tutorial video to help you out. Make sure to watch the entire video as you need to follow all the steps carefully.

Step No. 1 would be that you have to download the Google Installer apk and sideload it on your Letv smartphone.  The link is in the description below this video on Youtube.
Once you’ve done you have to install the Google installer app l as you would install any app.
Once the installation process is done, you have to open up the app and select Google Play app to install. Then you will receive a message saying that you don’t have Google Services framework. Here you have to click ok and select the install icon located on the bottom then select continue and wait till all the apps shown in the list are downloaded. Sometimes it may take a few minutes, just let your device rest for a while.
Once the apps are dowloaded you will be prompted to install them one by one. It is very important to select install option for all the apps except for the Google Play store at this stage. Once you are asked to install Google Play Store, you have to click cancel.
As soon as the installation Google Play Services, Google Account Manager and Google Services framework is done, you have to close the application and reboot your device.
After you have rebooted your Letv smartphone, you have to launch Google Installer app again and then select Google Play from the list, download it and install it. Once you’ve done that, you have the Google Play Store with all the Google Services up and running on your device.
What you want to do right now is set up you Google account and start downloading the apps you need.
However, you will receive a Google Play Services error message and will be prompted to update it. You have to do that immediately to make sure the apps are running smoothly.
Some other things I recommend doing is to install any third party keyboard like Google Keyboard as the preinstalled one has too many Chinese aspects in it. In addition, I downloaded the Google app to make sure I have the best Google integration possible.

Unboxing and Review of Elephone G6

During the past year, chinese based smartphone company Elephone managed to stand out as a budget manufacturer with a low to middle class of everyday smartphones using the current MTK based SoC processor.

At the start of this Elephone G6 article I would just like to point out a more than solid manufacturer and user community on the manufacturer web site with a support forum on which for all models can be found the latest official ROM (also custom ones from user community) and official/unofficial technical support.

Elephone G6 is powered by upto 3G supported (no LTE speed) MTK6592 Cortex A7 CPU clocked at full speed with 1.7 Ghz with octa-core design (System on a Chip) which is more than capable for most of today 2D/3D games and any other system demanding graphic applications like image processing or video viewing/editing. Antutu score on several tests results even over 30000+. High demand gaming although can heat up the phone after prolonged usage, but not as serious as quad-core models.

Although a phone with installed 50+ games/apps (and some of them remaining in memory) losses its razorblade bechmarking touch. 🙂

Screenshot_2015-06-19-16-35-37The phone uses a 1 Gb of RAM and is ROM of 8Screenshot_2015-06-19-16-35-54 Gb total (to user is available just over 5 Gb-EMMC) with a supported capacity for MicroSD/TF cards of 64 Gb (somewhere 32 Gb noted) so a test for both will be done soon (current 16 Gb).

Display (HD-720P) offers an middle to upper class IPS display with a high DPI of 293 with a display angle of approx. 180° (horrizontally/vertically) with 24 bit color which offers sharp and crisp images indoors and outdoors with a higly clear image even in direct sunlight. Colors are correct and vivid with a correct saturation. The screen is of course capacitive and multi-touch (5 points) with proximity and ambient light sensor. The screen is protected with first generation Corning gorilla glass protection.

Battery of 2250 mAh is sufficient for a standard everyday user with talk time of 4,5 h on 3G (8-9 hours on 2G), music play of 8,5-9 hours and video play of approximate of 4 hours as the 5 inch display uses the most of the voltage as the CPU/GPU combination offer a low power consumption. Battery is removable so if the cells deteriorate there is always a possibility a replacement somewhere online.

Location positioning is regular for most of today’s smartphone models, GPS with A-GPS support (EPO). First positioning can take a while (up to 30 seconds) in crowded urban area but every latter attempt will result in a few second tops positioning with at least 7 satellites (for example Google Maps will position within one second).

Elephone G6 is running an AOSP version of Kitkat (Android 4.4.2) with a MIUI like main home launcher (support app drawer).

desc_960814318_00 (1)

Android version is more-less a standardized version but with a couple of notable features which are:

desc_960814283_00-gesture sensing (Camera/Gallery)

-off screen gestures (kernel supported double tap to wake, etc.) with selection of predefined gestures for application shortcuts

-Flash alert (calls/messages)

Elephone-G6-Review-2 Screenshot_2015-06-16-12-41-59

-Fingerprint scanner (the lowest price smartphone with an active scanner), can be somewhat stubborn until you get the hang of the position and the speed for setting up but is functional and a more than praised worthy feature. The phone can come pre-rooted or if not the rooting process can be done by several solutions (example Kingroot).

During the test no force-closes or undescribed lags occured and Google Play managed to find and install any application/game requested, both on the phone and on Google play website (which recognized the phone correctly).

Screenshot_2015-06-19-16-33-46

Phone supports gravity, light, gesture sensor, acceleration sensor and a function compass (unlike previous MTK SoC generations). Distance sensor is also included which surprises due to the smartphone price.

The connection is through a standard 5pin micro USB port with a 1A charger and a USB OTG support (through an adapter, which can be easily acquired for example on eBay for 1$) .

The Phone is capable for 2G/3G GSM speeds (HSDPA, at least 7,2 Mbps) with WiFi capabilites 802.11 (a/g/n) which offers a more than solid connection and signal coverage (50 meters from router base upto 60 % signal). Bluetooth 4.0 revision is supported with speeds upto 25 Mbps.

Screenshot_2015-06-19-16-34-52 Screenshot_2015-06-19-16-35-23Elephone G6 has a dual-camera support with a symbolic 2Mp front one with a VGA recording support and a back camera of 13 Mp (information regarding sensor and manufacturer are unclear) with f/2.2 aperture, which most likely is OVT OV8865 (8 Mp sensor) so it could be that the camera picture is interpolated. Nonetheless the outside picture quality on both cameras is more that satisfying for the price range with a more than adequate night picture (with usage of LED flash).

Noticeable the back camera supports smile detection, 4x digital zoom, autofocus and an object traceable focus (touch/follow) which is more-less successfull 🙂 .

Screenshot_2015-06-19-18-22-26 Screenshot_2015-06-19-18-22-43

Back camera supports HD video recording at 1920×1080 with video stabilization. Maximum camera driver supported bitrate at test was 8Mbps with 30 FPS, so the recorded video can easy replace a standard camera/photo device with 8/12 Mpx.

Phone is offering an excellent weight of only 125 grams with a leaflike thickness of only 7.7 mm so on the aesthetic side (including a modern logo design) the phone gives an impression of a more-costly smartphone model with a fluid silhouette.

Taking in consideration the current price range (below 130 $) and included configuration of the smartphone this is a middle to high-end capable smarthphone with a good clear outer speaker on which movies and music play is almost a joy with high output volume. FM radio with headphone antenna is a regular feature on this phone type.

Screen and the overall speed is fluent with no delay in tasks like application start/switch between active applications and accompanied with a good camera the phone is surely recommended.

Also a brand image and continuity on the market will add to the Elephone image which also will accompany for an easier accesory buying online. 🙂 Good job.

ZTE’s Nubia sub-brand has been doing quite well in the Asian market. So, it looks like the company is finally ready for the North American market with its brand new company, AXON.

Well, ZTE has not officially confirmed that AXON is a sub-brand, but after thorough research, certain people have found connections leading back to this Chinese giant. As you can see, the specs are in line with what a flagship model offers these days, but the real highlight of the phone is its bezelless display! The beautiful screen up front with the all metal body makes it one of the best looking handsets oin the market right now.

letv one 01

If you are looking for something cheaper, you can check out the LeTV One smartphone too. It comes with a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p panel with MT6795 octa-core chipset and 13MP Sony camera. Even this model comes with the latest USB Type-C port. While this one’s not truly bezelless, we were impressed with the device in our review. Its a great smartphone at just $299, definitely bringing value to your money.

Doogee DG700 Pro Leaked With MT6795 & 6000mAh battery

Doogee DG700 Titan 2 was one of the best offerings from the company till date. The phone was built to last, capable of withstanding most kinds of damages. Along with its super strong body, the D700 came with decent specs which made it a great choice for customers.

doogee dg700 pro

Now, it looks like the company is preparing the next generation version of the model. And the new leak suggests that specs wise, the Doogee DG700 Pro will be a high-end handset.

dg700 pro leak

The leak states that the Doogee DG700 Pro will come with a 5-inch full HD 1080p display with 3GB / 4GB RAM on board. As for the processor, there will be a powerful MT6795 Helio X10 octa-core chip under the hood. Like the previous generation, the DG700 Pro will come with a large battery, expected to be around 6000mAh. There’s even rumors floating around that the phone could feature dual displays like the Yotaphone, but we are not sure of that.

Anyways, this particular leak definitely shows us that the Doogee DG700 Pro is a high-end rugged handset. However, as with all leaks, unless the company confirms the specs, there’s always a good chance that the actual specs may turn out a bit different.

Anyways, the expected launch is around September, which means there’s still some time. If the phone is under development, expect to see more information pretty soon.

Exclusive: UMI Iron to Feature A Biometric Tech That’s Better Than Fingerprint ID

We have been hearing a lot about UMI Iron which is going to be the company’s new flagship smartphone for the year. Most of the specs as well as features of the device are already known to us, but a source close to the company has revealed to us that the final product will feature a new tech that’s even better than Fingerprint ID.

umi-iron-3

Just yesterday, we got our hands on the engineering sample of the UMI Iron, but it looks like the final product will have additional features as well. Our source reveals that the phone will feature a hypertech which will be much more secure than the fingerprint ID seen on other phones. While we still don’t know the exact nature of this tech, the company will reportedly reveal more details next week itself.

We know that Iris recognition is much more secure than fingerprint ID, so this tech could end up on the phone. If this is the case, then it will definitely make Iron a unique smartphone in this crowded mid-range market. However. it still won’t be the first company to experiment with Iris recognition as we have seen a couple of manufacturers try out this tech on their flagships.

The engineering sample looked quite well built and fluid, and we hope the final product is even better. You can check out our hands on with the phone from here.

Stay tuned for more details.

New Teaser Confirms Fast Charge On Honor 7 Flagship

From the teasers that we have been seeing in the past few days, it looks like Huawei is all set to unveil a beast of a device this month end. The company’s honor 7 flagship is turning out to be quite a powerful device, with an octa-core chip, fingerprint sensor and a lot more to offer.

Now, the latest teaser from the company officially confirms the presence of fast charging tech on the device. This isn’t surprising given that all major manufacturers have incorporated this tech on their devices. In fact, earlier today, a new leak revealed that the Meizu MX5 will also come with fast charge. Interestingly, the Meizu flagship is expected to debut the same day as Honor 7 i.e. June 30.
image

Thanks to the numerous teasers, we also know that the flagship will come with a fingerprint sensor as well as a special function key on the side. The phone will have sapphire glass, probably to protect the camera as well as high-end specs.
Pricing is still not confirmed but it is said that the lowest version will start at 1999 Yuan. Other versions are expected to retail at a much higher figure.
image

Given that Huawei is revealing teasers almost everyday, lets wait and see what other features the phone will come with on June 30.

Meizu MX5 Posters Reveal Support For Fast Charge Tech, 60% in 40 Minutes

We know something big is coming on June 30 and its most likely going to be the Meizu MX5 flagship. We have already seen the device in pictures as well as a video, and today, new posters reveal some more information about the device.

meizu mx5 01

According to the poster, the flagship will feature mCharge technology which will be a type of fast charging. This will allow the phone to charge up to 25% in just 10 minutes and up to 60% in 40 minutes. We had already seen rumors about fast charging on MX5 earlier, so this doesn’t come as a surprise.

The pictures are similar to the ones that we saw earlier. So, it features an all metal design, with super thin bezels and an oval shaped home button just below the display. You can expect some special functions with that physical button.

meizu mx5 02

The leak also reveals that the new Flyme OS, probably Flyme 5.0 will bring some new visual changes including new colors, glass effects and several other functionality. Flyme hasn’t been the best OS in the market, and hopefully, we will see a much better and improved version running on the new MX5 flagship.

meizu mx5 03

As for the specs, the Meizu MX5 is expected to come with a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display with 3GB RAM and a 2.1GHz MT6795T octa-core 64-bit processor. At the back, there will be a 20MP camera and 5MP front facing shooter. There will be a fingerprint sensor on board as well as a pretty decent 3150mAh battery.

We expect Meizu to release the device on June 30 for around 1799 Yuan ($280), which is less than a week away. But before that, expect some more leaks to give away a few more features of the device.

Snapdragon 620 Spotted On Benchmarking Website, Performance Is Quite Good

image

While there’s no denying the fact that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 isn’t the best SoC from the company till date, to make up for the loss of reputation, the company is in desperate need of unveiling a power yet efficient chipset. We have heard that the Snapdragon 820 will make up with its performance, but it looks like the company is even improving its 600 series chipsets to a great level.

image

Earlier today, we came across the Snapdragon 620 chipset on a benchmarking website, revealing a few details about its performance. The MSM8952 chipset managed to score pretty good on both the single core as well as multi-core tests.  In fact, its scores were quite close to Snapdragon 810 which comes from an even better (800 series) chipset family.

image

The Snapdragon 620 is expected to come with Cortex A72 cores, which also explains the superb single core performance scores. The chip managed to get 1513 which is higher than both Exynos 7420 and Snapdragon 810. Even in the multi-core test, it out performs Snapdragon 810. However, it couldn’t beat Samsung’s Exynos 7420 in the multi-core test.

image

This looks like a prototype model which was running Android 5.1 Lollipop version with 3GB RAM on board. We hope that the Cortex A72 cores don’t heat up as much as the A57, to avoid issues similar to Snapdragon 810.

Flash Deal: Get the Amazing Bezel Less Letv One S1 for $274.39

We have all heard that Letv has made a lot of hype about its bezel less smartphones, which not only have a great design, premium materials but also some amazing specs. All that comes with an amazing price tag as well!

In case you missed it, we have already reviewed the Letv One S1 and despite a few shortcomings, which will most likely be fixed via software updates, it turns out to be one of the best deals for your money.

All you need to know in the Letv Le 1 (One/S1/X600) video review:

Display 5.5″ 1080p, 403ppi
Processor Mediatek Helio X10, 64-bit, up to 2.2GHz
RAM 3GB
Camera 5MP Front/13MP Back (f/2.0 aperture)
Connectivity Bluetooth, 3G, 4G, GPS, WIFI, GSM,EDGE, GPRS, UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+,
Battery 3.000 mAh Li-polimer (non-removable)
Dimensions 147.8 x 74.2 x 9.5mm
OS LeUI based on Android 5.0 Lolipop
Storage 16, 32 or 64GB (non-expandable)

The specs sheet is indeed very good for a price and I have personally tested this device out, and can assure that performs very well in real life scenarios.

IMG_9592

The device has a good looking design and outstanding built quality. All of this beauty looks and feels great in the hand and it is comfortable to handle it even with one hand despite its large 5.5” screen.
Speaking of display, it is not completely bezel less as there are clearly visible borders on each side, but the edge-to-edge glass does make a great impression. In addition, the screen is sharp, vivid and has great viewing angles.
LeTV-One-Specification-price-availability
The UI is very fast, fluid and has a great design, but still has some weird English translations. Also, you can’t remove the LeTV home button. Still, since it’s Android, you can customise the device the way you want and even install the Google Play services manually without a sweat.
Moreover, The lack of the MicroSD card slot suggests that you would rather buy at least 32GB model if you are a heavy user.
IMG_9597
The powerful chip along with 3GB of RAM is a combination you can trust when it comes even to the most demanding tasks like 3D gaming or 4K footage playback or recording.
However, there are some issues in the video recording department, but as I’ve said earlier, there are some high chances that it will be fixed with a software update soon. I may produce a follow-up video on that.
IMG_9591
On the other hand, the daylight still camera images look very good and indoor shots are great too. However, the LED flash is simply too bright and hopefully it can be fixed via software update as well.
In addition, you can be sure that the battery will keep the lights on for a good amount of time and you would not have any connectivity issues.
Finally, LeTV One Le Superphone is without a doubt a great device. Despite a few shortcomings, which I strongly believe can be fixed via software updates very soon, it shapes up to be one of the best offerings on the market for the price of under $300 unlocked.

Exclusive: Hands On With The UMI Iron Flagship [Video]

We have been hearing a lot about UMI’s latest flagship, the UMI Iron, thanks to the company’s carefully crafted teasers. Till now, we had some details about the specs of the handset as well as the design, but now, we have got the first set of hands on pictures of the device.

umi-iron-3

The overall design is more or less the same as the one shown in the previous leaks. The phone features an all metal body measuring just 7.9mm in thickness. The body looks well crafted and solid, with both the power and the volume button lying on the left hand side. The right side is totally clean. As for the top, you will find a headphone jack while at the bottom, you have the USB port.

umi-iron-1

The design looks quite good. But if you looks carefully, it seems to be inspired from HTC’s One M9, which is actually a good thing considering that the phone has received positive reviews for its design.

Up front, above the display, you can see the camera as well as sensors on top. The area below the display is clean, thanks to the on screen buttons. On the display, you can clearly see the thick bezels on all the four sides. But that’s not really a complaint, as the overall package looks quite good.

The back features a two tone design, with the camera and the dual LED flash lying right on top. At the center, you can see the UMI logo while down below, there’s the speakers.

As for the specs, the phone will feature MT6753 octa-core 64-bit chip with 3GB RAM and 16GB of storage. There will be a 5.5-inch display with full HD 1080p resolution. At the back, there will be a 13MP Sony IMX214 camera sensor along with an 8MP shooter. Other features include 4G LTE connectivity, 3350mAh battery and Android 5.1 Lollipop version.

Elephone P9000 to Feature Helio X20 10-Core Processor, Debuts In October

Elephone has established itself as a global smartphone maker with its numerous value for money offerings. We have already seen a lot of great devices from this Chinese maker such as the P7000 and now, it looks like the company is taking things to a whole new level.

elephone-featured-686x380

Elephone has updated on its official website some details and specifications of the upcoming Elephone P9000 handset. It will be one of the most powerful offerings from the company till date. One of the biggest highlights of the device is the new 10-core Helio X20 MT6797 chipset inside, which will probably make it one of the first handsets to feature the chip.

mediatek-heliox20-01

Mediatek had earlier revealed that the chip will go into mass production by Q3 2015. And Elephone P9000 will go on sale around October this year, which seems to be the right time for the chip to hit the market.

As for the other specs, the Elephone P9000 is said to come with a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display with 4GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. At the back, it will feature a powerful 20.7MP camera while up front, there’s a 5MP shooter.

The phone comes with a 3100mAh battery and support duals SIM dual standby. Given the flagship status, the P9000 will come with FDD-LTE 4G networks. As for software, the phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop version.

The listing also revealed the pricing of the handset, which is not very cheap according to Elephone standards. The phone is expected to retail for $500, which makes it the costliest handset from the company.

Elephone G7 Review – A Good Cheap Smartphone

Elephone has been busy releasing new devices like P7000 or P8000, but I’ve been using a bit older device as a daily driver for the past week or so. It is the Elephone G7 (full name is Precious G7). I know it is not the newest kid on the block but I thought why not make a  video review of it… because that’s what I do nowadays.

It turns out that the Elephone G7, which costs just below $120, is pretty capable device and it also spots a great design with decent built quality. I’m not saying there are no better option out there, but I didn’t have any major issues with it. Honestly, it behaves like a device that costs around $200. Check out either video or written review to find out all the pros and cons!

We wanted to thank Pandawill.com for providing us with review unit. You can check out the product page of the Elephone G7 here.

Elephone G7 Review: UNBOXING

A FAIRLY STANDARD PACKAGING WITH A USUAL SET OF ACCESSORIES

IMG_9778

The device comes in a nice box and you have to pull the tab to open it up.

IMG_9780

The packaging contents include the stuff you would it expect to come with most of the smartphones. That includes the charging brick  along with USB cable, instruction manuals and screen protector. Overall, the presentation is great for the price of this device.

Elephone G7 Review: DESIGN

a sleek looking device with a slim body and great built quality

The Elephone G7 is a well-designed smartphone. The very first impressions once you take the device out of the box are that the built quality is great and you simply can’t expect more from a budget device. It has a 5.5″ display, so it is not that small but the bezels are not that huge and it can be managed with one hand with a bit of

IMG_9801

On the top side you can find an 8MP shooter, proximity sensor and an earpiece.

IMG_9802

On the bottom there are 3 capacitive keys, which also have a nice bright backlight, which is even visible outdoors.

Optimized-Screenshot 2015-06-22 14.02.02

In addition, the home key serves as a notification and it also has a great looking pulsing effect (see the video review to see the pulsing effect).

IMG_9835

The backplate is made out of matt plastic, which, however, attracts some fingerprints and smudges. Still, it’s not that bad as glossy surfaces.

IMG_9809

The good thing is that you can easily remove the back cover, where you can find a removable 2650mAh battery.

Also, there are two SIM card slots (one full SIM size, another micro SIM size), one being capable of both 2G and 3G networks while another can only support 2G network. However, there is no 4G connectivity on board. The good thing is that there is microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 64GB.

IMG_9806

The company chose a left corner to implement a 13MP camera with single tone dual LED flash. It is not the best placement for the camera sensor as it can be easily covered with your fingers. However, it seems that manufacturers still love choosing this place.

IMG_9819

The Elephone G7 is surrounded by a metal frame, which gives a bit of a premium look and feel.

IMG_9822

In addition, it seems that the buttons are made out of metal as well. Also, they are very clicky have a great tactile response. The left side is where you can find a volume rocker.

IMG_9821

The right side seems right for the implementation of the power on/off switch, which is easy to reach with your thumb.

IMG_9823

On the top side there is a micro USB charging port along with the headset jack.

IMG_9825

On the bottom you can find a microphone along with two speaker grills. Please check out the video review to hear sound test.

IMG_9838

Elephone claims that this phone measures at 5.5mm thick. However, it looks like it was just a trick to get your attention. It is more likely that a metal frame is very thin, but the backplate adds a bit more thickness.

Still, the device is indeed very slim and it looks and feels well made. Also, it does not feel cheap at all as the build quality may be even better than some devices that cost way over $300.

Elephone G7 Review: DISPLAY

a 720p 5.5″ display is not the best out there but great for the budget device

The Elephone G7 is not a small device as it comes with a 5.5” 720P display. The panel itself is not the sharpest but sharp enough and you won’t be able to see any pixels with a naked eye. Also, the colours look natural and the viewing angles are great. However, I would love to see a bit better sunlight visibility. Still, it’s not a bad panel overall.

Elephone G7 Review: UI

THE DEVICE COMES WITH OUTDATED ANDROID 4.4.2 OS. NEVERTHELESS, EVERYTHING IS RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND THE OVERALL UI EXPERIENCE IS GOOD.

The Elephone G7 comes with a bit outdated Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS. Although it is not the newest version of Android with a light Elephone’s skin on top of it, everything is running smoothly and I didn’t have any lags in daily use.

The UI itself is pretty simple affair as it comes with a usual set of features you would expect to come with most of the smartphones. One of the features, which has already become a standard is the gesture controls and they work pretty good.

In addition, all the apps are opening up fast and they are very responsive.

IMG_9837

You are not getting the latest and greatest OS from Google here, but the good thing is that you would not have any lags and responsiveness is the word that is the best to describe the overall UI experience.

Elephone G7 Review: PERFORMANCE

uninspiring specs sheet and benchmark results but great real life performance

The device has an octa-core MTK6592M, 1.4GHz (32-bit) chip, Mali-450 MP4 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage.

The Antutu benchmark score is 28765, which is uninspiring.

Well, it is not a powerhouse at all and the with the specs sheet like this and the synthetic benchmark results, the Elephone G7 falls into the low-end category of devices.

On the other hand, graphically intensive games work absolutely fine. Well, there are definitely some skipped frames, but it doesn’t really bother you and the overall experience is great. In addition, the device doesn’t heat up to uncomfortable levels even after more than 10 minutes of intensive tasks.

Elephone G7 Review: MULTIMEDIA

overal multimedia consumption experience is great but you may want to download a third party video and music player apps to have more functionality

Screenshot_2015-06-21-18-11-32

The great performance is also confirmed by a smooth Full-HD video playback. A 5.5” display is fun to watch video on, but the pre-installed stock video player doesn’t have much functionality, so I suggest you downloading a third-party one.

The stock Android gallery app experience is great as scrolling through or zooming in the pictures is almost seamless.

The device comes with a stock Android music player app. I was actually surprised that the loudspeaker quality is not bad at all for a budget device. Well, the sound does not have much depth like some high-end devices, but the speaker is very loud and the sound doesn’t get muffled once you cover the speaker up (Please check out the video review to hear a sound test).

The browsing experience is also good. The webpages are loading fast and scrolling is without any lags.

Elephone G7 Review: CAMERA

The Elephone G7 comes with a stock Android camera app that we have already seen on many devices. There are a few settings and shooting modes to play with. As far as the shutter speed goes, it is not the fastest, but fast enough not to miss a moment you want to capture.

Elephone G7 Review: IMAGE QUALITY

a decent camera for the price of the device

The 13MP camera is quite good for a budget device. You can capture some decent looking daylight images. Most of them have plenty of detail, the colours look natural, but the dynamic range and exposure can be a hit or miss. In addition, you have to hold the camera steady to avoid blurriness.

Once you take the smartphone indoors, you can actually take some nice pictures, but, naturally, the shutter speed slows down.

The low-light shots have much more noise, but are still usable. Also, the nigh shots are possible with the dual LED flash, but it is quite weak and does not illuminate the scene that well.

DOWNLOAD FULL RESOLUTION CAMERA (INCLUDING VIDEO) SAMPLES

Elephone G7 Review: FRONT FACING CAMERA IMAGE QUALITY

An 8MP selfie camera is quite decent outdoors as it takes pictures with a fair amount of details for social media uploads.

Elephone G7 Review: VIDEO QUALITY

the video quality is below average as it lacks in many aspects

PLEASE CHECK OUT THE VIDEO REVIEW TO SEE THE VIDEO SAMPLE.

The device is capable of shooting Full-HD videos, but the quality is below average. The footage looks dull as the sensor does not capture a lot of details and the colours look washed out. In addition, there is no continuous auto-focus on board.

Overall, the camera will not surprise you, but you can’t expect more from a budget device and it even performs at the same level as some sub-$200 smartphones out there.

Elephone G7 Review: CONNECTIVITY

all connectivity options work well but the wifi range could be better

I don’t have many complaints about Elephone G7’s connectivity options, which could be a deal breaker. The call quality is not the best, but it is fair enough and the 3G signal reception is great. Also, the GPS lock speed is not the fastest I’ve seen, but once you get a position lock, navigating through streets is good. However, the WIFI range could be a bit better as I couldn’t get full bars even being in the same room where the router is.

Elephone G7 Review: BATTERY LIFE

battery life is far from the best but better in reality than it looks on paper

The 2650mAh battery sounds uninspiring on paper. Surprisingly, it is not that bad in real life. It will get you through the day if you are an average user, meaning that you wouldn’t stare at your phone’s screen all the time. Speaking of screen on time, I could get almost 5 hours, which involved a lot of Youtube, some gaming, Internet browsing and Full-HD video playback. It is far from the best, but it is very good considering the low battery capacity, a huge screen and the price of the device.

Elephone G7 Review: CONCLUSIONS

IMG_9840

Elephone G7 may not be newest device on market, but it still offers most of the features you would expect from a smartphone and they work quite well.

The design is sleek as the device is very thin and the overall built quality is great.

IMG_9834

It is obvious that the smartphone doesn’t carry a killer specs sheet, but you don’t need to pay a huge price tag for this device either. A bit outdated Mediatek chip along with 1GB of RAM may sound disappointing, but the real life tests suggest that it should be good enough for the majority of users, who do not require that bleeding edge specifications.

IMG_9830

In addition, for the price of $120 you are getting a camera that is capable of shooting some decent daylight images.

Moreover, the battery life may not be the best, but it will be enough to last you a full day if you are not a heavy user.

IMG_9790

All in all, the Elephone G7 has some minor flaws but they are far from the deal breaker. Honestly, considering the whole package this device offers, it would be just unfair to expect more for the price.

We wanted to say thank you again for Pandawill.com for sending Elephone G7 for a review. A good thing about this seller is that it offers and amazing import taxes/VAT insurance service at a little extra cost!

Ulefone Be Touch 2 Could Come With Custom ROMs Like CyanogenMod

Ulefone has managed to make a mark in the crowded Chinese smartphone market. The company boasts of the latest Android operating system with the all its latest models, the Ulefone Be Pro, Be Touch and Be Touch 2 coming with the Android 5.0 Lollipop versions.

201506_22

The company has always pre-installed stock (pure) Android OS on its devices, but it looks like Ulefone has decided to take the next step by making custom third party ROMs available for its latest Ulefone Be Touch 2 smartphone.

To start off, the company will develop one custom ROM for its flagship, which will most likely be the most voted ROM. In a recent survey conducted by the company on its Facebook page, MIUI and CyanogenMod got the maximum number of votes followed by other ROMs like EMUI and Flyme. Once the first ROM is fully developed for the phone, it will start with the second one.

“People want a that provide different interaction experiences and variable themes, and in the same time, they want it to be light for best performance. We’ll take both the factors into consideration and make something people feel inspiring and good to use simultaneously ”, said Ulefone CEO Jason Liu.

Given that CyanogenMod has a lot of features to offer, we expect the company’s first custom ROM for the Be Touch to be CM. The second one could be MIUI.

Anyways, we will keep you guys updated with more information pretty soon. So, stay tuned!

Here’s The First Camera Samples From Lenovo’s Sub-brand ZUK Z1 Smartphone

Earlier this month, we reported that Lenovo had a new smartphone sub-brand called as ZUK which will primarily focus on developing software for its users. The company had said that it aims to release a new smartphone, the ZUK Z1 later this year, sometime around September. While at that time, it didn’t reveal any key specs of the device, recently, Lenovo’s Senior Vice President Chen Xudong released a few camera samples of the upcoming ZUK smartphone via his Weibo account.

You can check out all the samples from down below. The images look quite good, like the one at the time of sunset. Despite the low light surroundings, the phone managed to take quite focused and clear shots.

The other pictures are even better with natural colors and high level of detail. The image of the flower too came out quite well as we can see a lot of details in the colors too.

Unfortunately, the company has not yet revealed how powerful the sensor is on the camera. But after seeing these images, it looks like the camera on ZUK Z1 will be quite good.

Check out the samples from down below.
