Redmi 3 Teardown: See What’s Inside This Compact 4100mAh Battery Powered Device

A week back, Xiaomi announced the Redmi 3 budget smartphone, which turned out one of the best low-cost devices we have seen till date. The phone came with a 5-inch 720p display and a large 4100mAh battery which meant that you could use the device for days without having to charge it. Moreover, such a large battery was put inside a relatively compact 8.5mm thin body, which once again was quite impressive. Other specs of the device like 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 13MP rear camera with PDAF, 5MP front shooter and an all metal body are all best in its class. And you get all this for just $105!

redmi 3 teardown (13)

Given that the company managed to keep the thickness of the body limited to 8.5mm, we had to see how the company stuffed all the components inside the device. So, below is a teardown of the Xiaomi Redmi 3 smartphone.

redmi 3 teardown (3)

Some of the key highlights of the Redmi 3 teardown are as follows:

  1. Redmi 3 comes with a metal body with a plaid design on the back shell.
  2. The back cover is extremely thin, measuring just 0.3mm. This is probably why Xiaomi decided to use metal body instead of plastic as the latter won’t be strong if it’s so thin.
  3. The unboxing revealed that in case you ever plan to replace the 4100mAh battery inside the Redmi 3, you will void the official warranty.
  4. The camera is protected by a sturdy Zinc Alloy frame.
  5. Xiaomi has applied a reasonable amount of thermal paste on top of the chipset and flash memory chips in order to avoid overheating issues.

You can check out all the Redmi 3 teardown pictures of the device from down below.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Spotted On GeekBench Again With Snapdragon 820 & 3GB RAM

Xiaomi Mi 5 is confirmed to release next month, soon after China’s Spring Festival. We also recently came to know that Foxconn has speeded up the production of the Mi 5 handsets, in order to stock up before the release in February. This also means that leaks and benchmarks about the device will increase in the coming days.

Mi 5 On Geekbench - 17 Jan 2016
Mi 5 On Geekbench – 17 Jan 2016

Now, Xiaomi Mi 5 has been spotted on the benchmarking website, Geekbench, yet again, sporting similar configuration as before. So, the phone comes with 3GB of RAM with Snapdragon 820 chipset inside. The processor was already confirmed by one of the co-founders of the company earlier this month, so no surprises here.

[OLD] Mi 5 On Geekbench - 24 DEC 2015
[OLD] Mi 5 On Geekbench – 24 DEC 2015
As for the scores, they are similar to what we have seen in the past. This is the version that comes with Snapdragon 820 clocked at 1.59GHz, instead of 1.36GHz as seen last month. So, the scores are a bit higher than before. The device managed to score 2182 in the single-core test and 4892 in the multi-core test. While anything above 2000 points in the single-core test is considered impressive, with just four cores on board, the multi-core score is not at par with rivals such as the Exynos 8890 and the Helio X20. These rival chipsets have scores more than 6500 points in the same test.

Xiaomi Gemini on Geekbench - 17 Jan 2016
Xiaomi Gemini on Geekbench – 17 Jan 2016

Along with the device named Xiaomi Mi 5, another Xiaomi device was also spotted on Geekbench yesterday. It was the same Xiaomi Gemini handset, sporting similar configuration as the Mi 5, but with slightly better scores. the Gemini handset scored, 2215 in the single-core and 5096 in the multi-core test.

With just 3GB of RAM on board, the Xiaomi Mi 5 that we spotted today seems to be the low-end variant of the flagship model. The higher-end model with 4GB of RAM is expected to post better scores.

According to recent rumors, the Mi 5 will come in two variants. The low-end variant will feature 2.5D glass body on both the sides with a metal frame and a 5-inch 1080p display while the high-end version will come with an all metal body and a 5-inch 2K display.

Elephone W2 Smartwatch Is Official, Comes In Silver & Gold Colors

After a couple of teasers, Elephone has officially unveiled the Elephone W2 smartwatch. The company announced the wearable today at an event, alongside the launch of its bezelless Elephone P9000 Edge and two other smartphones in the P9000 series. Apart from these four devices, the company also showed off the Elephone M2 mid-range smartphone. But more about that later. First, let’s take a look at the Elephone W2 smartwatch.

Elephone W2 Smartwatch

This wearable is unlike the usual smartwatches that you have seen in the market. The first major difference is the lack of a display up front. So, the W2 is like a traditional watch with some smart features. It’s a round watch with traditional dials and numbers and three physical buttons on the right.

^F3E521CAD8925086304EBBFB60CE612B4C300FFC090610AA04^pimgpsh_fullsize_distr

The Elephone W2 comes with the Swiss Ronda Movement 762. The overall thickness of the watch is about 10.30mm and you get two color options for the case, namely Rose Gold and Steel Silver. However, it looks like there are a bunch of other color options available for the leather strap. Powering the watch will be a 210mAh battery, and without a display, the battery life should be quite decent. However, the company is yet to reveal an official battery life figure for the device. The watch is waterproof as well.

As for its smart functions, you will find a pedometer, sleep monitor, call reminder, alarm reminder and even remote picture feature on the device. Unfortunately, this is all we have on the Elephone W2 at the moment. However, we expect more details like pricing, and availability pretty soon.

Elephone M2

Apart from the new smartwatch and the P9000 series smartphones, Elephone also showed off its Elephone M2 smartphone at the event today.

elephone m2

The phone features mid-range specs like MT6753 octa-core chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 5.5-inch FHD 1080p display and a 2600mAh battery. At the back, you will find a 13MP Sony IMX214 camera while, up front, there is a 5MP shooter.

The company has added a fingerprint sensor as well, on the home button which sits right below the display. You can even unlock the device when the screen is off by double tapping on the display.

The device is already available for sale via retailers like Gearbest.

Elephone P9000 & P9000 Lite With Helio P10 & 4GB RAM Announced

Along with the P9000 Edge, the company announced two more devices in the P9000 series with toned down specs, namely the Elephone P9000 and the P9000 Lite. However, both the phones still feature powerful hardware.

ELEPHONE P9000

^8AAA80F765ED385B34E26C00AD2906557BBD859CBA9D52C208^pimgpsh_fullsize_distr

Looks wise, the phone is pretty well built, with super thin bezels and an overall thin body. The phone features 1.6mm thin bezels which is pretty impressive, taking the screen to body ratio to 82%. The overall body is made out of good quality plastic with a matte finish at the back. A metal frame goes around the body. Unlike the Edge model, the fingerprint sensor is located at the back of the device, below the camera sensor.

Inside, it comes with the same MT6755 Helio P10 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM. But the storage is reduced to 32GB, which is still quite generous. You have a 5.5-inch display up front with 1920 x 1080p pixel resolution. With thin bezels, the display of the phone looks quite vibrant. The overall thickness of the body is 8mm.

^F4A66544A9F5E195DC4F57D4E3DEC7D45863DDCD2498D4C836^pimgpsh_fullsize_distrAt the back, you get a 13MP camera (as opposed to 21MP on the Edge variant) but you have the same Laser Autofocus present on the device. Up front, you get an 8MP shooter. The battery remains the same as the Edge, i.e. 3000mAh with support for 9V 2.5A Quick Charge, which can charge the phone to 100% in just 70 minutes. For software, you get the latest Android 6.0 version with the company’s customized UI on top.

^19CFFFC13741A5154DE0BCE2A08BDFCA249666EA0A917BD82F^pimgpsh_fullsize_distr

Like the Elephone P9000 Edge, this version also comes with a number of connectivity features such as NFC, Wireless Charging, and USB Type-C apart from the standard options like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It comes with dual SIM dual standby with 4G LTE support. The bands supported are as follows: FDD-LTE: Band 1/3/7/20 (800/1800/2100/2600MHz).

^C8C5D1A4D7FF4A4E80DB03D761091311B7E23BE53729DCF56C^pimgpsh_fullsize_distr

The company will announce the pricing of the Elephone P9000 on Monday and it will be available by the end of the month. But according to the company’s official store, the P9000 is listed as out of stock for $329.99 $269.99 (updated). So, this could be the official price tag of the device.

ELEPHONE P9000 Lite

Along with the flagship P9000, the company also announced the Elephone P9000 Lite version which will retail for a cheaper price tag. The phone also comes with Helio P10 octa-core chip with 4GB RAM and 32GB ROM, but there are a few areas, where the company has sacrificed in terms of features.

^39AF13D7208F3918A4BE18DF1CFD0B0865DBA4BC7D52DA4812^pimgpsh_fullsize_distr

For example, the camera at the back is still 13MP but with an OV3850 sensor and the front camera downgrades to 5MP. Also, you don’t have the usual connectivity features of the P9000 like Wireless Charging, Fingerprint Sensor, or NFC. But the phone has the USB Type-C port and comes with the latest Android 6.0 build with the company’s skin on top.

Pricing and availability details are unknown at the moment, but more details coming soon.

elephone p9000 edge

The Elephone P9000 Edge comes with a bezelless display and is the best smartphone that the company has unveiled till date, featuring very powerful specifications.

As for the specs, the phone comes with the MT6755 octa-core Helio P10 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The 5.5-inch display up front will be bezelless which really makes the device stand out from the crowd. You have a fingerprint sensor as well, and its located on the right side of the device.

As for the camera, the Elephone P9000 Edge comes with a powerful 21MP Sony IMX230 sensor and Laser AutoFocus at the back and an 8MP shooter up front. You will find a decent 3000mAh battery inside. As for the P9000 and the Elephone W2 smartwatch, we will cover their releases in the next couple of articles. So, stay tuned.

Snapdragon 650 vs Helio X10 vs Snapdragon 808: AnTuTu Scores Compared!

Just yesterday, Xiaomi announced a new version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 smartphone that comes with Snapdragon 650 inside. In case you don’t know, this is the new Snapdragon 618 chipset that was recently rebranded as the 650. However, it’s a relatively new chip which means we don’t have much idea about how it performs in real life as compared to its competition like Helio X10 or even Snapdragon 808.

snapdragon

But, when it comes to the benchmark scores, the Snapdragon 650 clearly shows its superiority amongst its rivals. So, today, let’s take a close look at how the chip stands as compared to competitors i.e. Snapdragon 650 vs Helio X10 vs Snapdragon 808. In this comparison, we will take a look only at the AnTuTu scores, because that’s readily available at the moment. This is not an extensive comparison, rather it focuses on just the benchmark scores.

Firs of all, let’s take a look at the Snapdragon 650’s benchmark scores.

Snapdragon 650 antutu benchmarkThese scores are pretty good considering that the chip managed 78979 on AnTuTu! That used to be flagship level benchmark score on the app, which really shows how much power lies in the chip. The 2 x Cortex A72 cores + 4 x Cortex A53 cores make the chipset powerful as well as efficient. Moreover, Adreno 510 GPU makes sure that the chip’s graphics performance is going to be great.

Now comparing the Snapdragon 650 vs Helio X10 chipsets, we can see that Qualcomm has done a good job, making it much more powerful than Mediatek’s Helio X10.

snapdragon 650 vs helio x10

Helio X10 used to be the star of the budget segment, ever since it was featured in the first Redmi Note 3 model. Xiaomi was the first to launch this chip in a 1000 Yuan smartphone and soon, others followed. The chip is actually pretty good for the budget segment and it manages to score about 48000 on AnTuTu.

But when compared to the Snapdragon 650, its no match. As you can see in the image above, Snapdragon 650 not only blows Helio X10 out of the park but its even better than the mid-range Snapdragon 808. Now, considering that hexa-core Snapdragon 808 powers many good smartphones like the LG G4 and the Xiaomi Mi 4C, it’s really great to see that the new generation Snapdragon 650 scores even higher than this chip.

snapdragon 650 vs snapdragon 808

That being said, now digest the fact that this chip powers the entry-level Redmi Note 3 (new generation) and you will understand what level budget smartphones have reached today!

Now, let’s take things to another level. Let’s bring in last year’s best smartphone chipset to the comparison, namely the Exynos 7420. The chip scores around 80K-85K on AnTuTu, which means this chip isn’t too far behind. So, performance wise, at least on AnTutu, it’s too close to 7420 for a budget chipset.

So, it looks like the Snapdragon 650 inside the new Redmi Note 3 is really quite powerful for a $100 smartphone.

While it’s great to see such a chip inside a budget mid-ranger, there is one section of the population that’s really going be disappointed to hear this news — EXISTING REDMI NOTE 3 OWNERS. There are a lot of fans who bought the old Redmi Note 3 in the past couple of months and they won’t be happy for sure.

So what do you think about the new Snapdragon 650 chipset? Do you think upgrading a phone with better specs every few months is really good for the industry?

LeTV 1S Sales Exceed 3 Million In The First Two Months After Release

LeTV Senior VP Feng Xing has revealed an important sales milestone of the company. He announced via his Weibo account that LeTV has sold more than 3 million LeTV 1S units in more than two months after its release. For a company, that managed to sell about 4 million smartphones in all in 2015, this is actually a great achievement.

LeTV-Le-1s-3

When the company had revealed the sales figure for the year 2015, we knew a majority of the units shipped would have been the budget LeTV 1S model. Now, looking at this 3 million figure, we are even more convinced that the LeTV 1S was actually the company’s best selling model. Feng Xing also praised Compal Electronics for helping them achieve this milestone. It was their production line that managed to churn out over 3 million units in a matter of two months.

For a well-established smartphone manufacturer, this figure is actually not that big. But for a company that started selling smartphone just seven to eight months back, reaching such a sales figure is commendable.

However, it also shows how much the company depends on the budget 1S for its sales. From what we can see, the rest of the models like the LeTV One, One Pro and One Max could only sell over a million units last year.

Moreover, LeTV had said that it is selling the 1S at a loss (ie. at $173 instead of the cost price of $206) which means for every unit sold, it would incur a loss of about $33. Given that the company sold over 3 million units till now, every day it could be making a loss close to a million. Let’s do the math here, the company could be selling more than 30,000 units a day (conservatively considering a 3 month period), which takes the loss to more than $990,000 a day!

It’s really interesting to see how the company is surviving with such loss!

Umi Iron Pro Review: DESIGN

img_6215
The design of the Umi Iron Pro is very similar to the one we’ve seen on the regular Umi Iron. The phone made of metal, it is well constructed and feels great in the hand.
img_6209
The 5.5” display does not make this phone the most compact out there but it is not that huge either.
img_6203
On the top we have 8MP shooter along with the front firing LED light and some other usual stuff.
On the bottom there is a very nice looking pulsing notification LED light, which can be highly customised and it has various colours. Also, there are on-screen navigation buttons.
img_6199
The back is made of metal and it is identical to the Umi Iron except for the fingerprint scanner. The setup of it was a bit annoying and it took much more time in comparison to some other devices. The good point is that once the you register your fingerprint, the scanner works pretty well and you can also unlock your phone straight from the standby mode.
img_6235
As far as optics, we are looking at 13MP camera with dual tone dual LED flash.
On the bottom there is a speaker grill.
img_6204 img_6205
The buttons are placed on the left side and I’m not a huge fan of it as I am used to pressing keys on the right side but this may be my personal preference. On the right side there is a dual nano SIM card slot and one slot also doubles as microSD storage expansion option.
img_6206 img_6207
On the top there is a headset jack and on the bottom you can find a USB Type-C port.
Overall, Umi Iron Pro is a well designed phone and it sports a great built quality. Also, it definitely looks premium considering the price of the device.

Umi Iron Pro Review: DISPLAY

img_6242
As far as display, we are looking at 5.5” panel, which is quite bright, it has good colours and it is a great panel overall. However, the phone ships with some sort of anti-glare screen protector, which I definitely recommend removing as soon as you start using the phone as it distorts the view.

Umi Iron Pro Review: UI

When it comes to the UI, Umi Iron Pro runs on Android 5.1 out of the box with a light Umi’s skin on top of it.
The day-to-day performance is nice and smooth even after installing lots of apps.
The key features would be some customisation options of the LED light, which is really cool and I believe each manufacturer should include that.
Also, there are some gesture controls, which work pretty well but they are not the fastest I’ve seen.
Besides the fingerprint security option, Umi offers iris scanner feature, if you really care about it. It may be cool to play with it for a few times but in general, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me as it takes too much effort unlocking the phone and you simply look weird. Well, it’s just my opinion.

Umi Iron Pro Review: BENCHMARKS

Umi Iron Pro Review: HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

Umi Iron Pro sports an octa-core MTK6753 1.3GHz 64bit CPU, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

This combo of hardware looks pretty good on paper but disappoints when it comes to graphically intensive games.
Playing Asphalt 8 on the highest visual setting is literally impossible. Once you change the graphics level to medium, it is possible to play it but there are still quite a few skipped frames and stutter.

Overall, this phone is definitely not for hardcore gamers.

Umi Iron Pro Review: MULTIMEDIA

img_6218
Consuming multimedia is a pretty good experience. As usual, there are no issues watching Full-HD content and while the loudspeaker is not the best I’ve heard, the sound that is coming out of it is pretty good.
As far as sound via earphones, it is pretty good too. However, the thing I hate most is the fact that you hear some kind of weird beep sound once hit volume up or down… and it happens randomly.

Umi Iron Pro Review: CAMERA

As far as camera, we have a pretty much stock looking Mediatek app. What’s funny is the fact that you can select the image size up to 20MP while the sensor itself is just 13MP.
As far as the image quality, daylight pictures turn out to be pretty good. There is a reasonable amount of details, colour reproduction is mostly natural and dynamic range is okay.
However, as soon as the sensor does not get a lot of light, some more noise creeps in. Still, you may get some pretty good looking pictures. Also,  I was quite impressed by the quality of some macro shots.
When it comes to the low-light images, the camera software tends to brighten up the scene, which is okay but it leads to a ridiculous amount of noise. Well, most of the images will be usable for social media but others may even look like painted.
As far as selfie camera goes, you can only take a decent shot with plenty of lightning. Otherwise, you will get a blurry shot witch will also lack in details.
As far as video, the quality of footage is okay but it is not very  impressive. There is an average amount of details and the video looks quite shaky. See the video review for a video sample.

Umi Iron Pro Review: CONNECTIVITY

img_6245
All the connectivity options work well. However, the in-call volume could be a tad louder.

Umi Iron Pro Review: BATTERY LIFE

The battery capacity varies from 3100mAh to 3300mAh, which is quite interesting. The phone will get you through the day as I was able to achieve almost 4 hours of screen-on time while using the device mainly for basic tasks.

Umi Iron Pro Review: CONCLUSIONS

img_6224
Umi Iron Pro is another attempt by the company to win the consumers’ hearts. Did they succeed?
To some extent yes. The phone has a great metal design, good build quality and it feels great in the hand.
img_6239
Also, Umi Iron Pro sports a pretty good display, the UI performance is mostly fast and fluid, the fingerprint scanner works well.
While the camera is not bad but it is far from perfect and the quality of images will mostly depend on the lighting conditions.
img_6211
Also, if you are a hardcore gamer, Umi Iron Pro is definitely not for you unless you are okay with a laggy 3D gaming experience.
All in all, Umi Iron Pro is a decent device for the price $180 but you may also want to check out what the competition has to offer in this price range.

Shanghai’s Quality Department Finds Xiaomi’s Mi Air Purifier Not Up To Standard (UPDATED)

Shanghai’s Quality department recently tested out the air purifiers in the region, which included the Air Purifiers from Xiaomi. The department reportedly tested out a batch of 36 Air Purifiers, out of which only four of the products failed the test. Interestingly, Xiaomi’s Mi Air Purifier turned out to be one of the four products which didn’t pass the test.

xiaomi-aircleaner-3

Although this meant that most of the air purifiers were fine, the presence of a popular product from Xiaomi in the list was really surprising. However, soon, Xiaomi released a statement in response to this test report, claiming that their air purifier CADR level efficiency was in line with A level standards. According to the official company listing, the Mi air purifier has a CADR (clean air delivery rate) value of 406m3/h which is pretty decent.

Mi air purifier fails test

Now, it has come to light that Xiaomi’s air purifiers that were subjected to the department’s test only managed score a CADR value of 346m3/h.

xiaomi-aircleaner

But the company claims that all Xiaomi purifiers use the same functional units and components and such a vast difference between the claimed value and the sample value is not possible. And after some further talks, it was reported that the sample unit under test was not using the high-speed mode on the device, which is why the score was so less. As a result, Xiaomi has urged the Shanghai Quality department to retake the test.

Although the report may have shocked Mi Air purifier users, from the proceedings of the incident, it looks like a proper retest may pass the product.

First Image Of ZOPO Speed 8 Surfaces, Launching On Feb 24 at MWC

ZOPO has been teasing its upcoming ZOPO Speed 8 flagship smartphone for the past couple of weeks. We have seen a couple of renders of the device, thanks to the previous teasers. The company has also confirmed that the phone will be one of the first smartphones to feature Helio X20 chipset onboard. Now, we have got the glimpse of the first image of this Chinese flagship and the company seems to have made some design changes as compared to its previous generation.

ZOPO Speed 8 01

The teaser shows that the ZOPO Speed 8 features round corners and a metal frame. You can also see a speaker grill just below the logo. Although unconfirmed for now, from the port located at the bottom, it looks like the Speed 8 will feature the USB Type-C reversible port. From this image, it’s hard to say anything more about the device at the moment.

However, according to earlier reports, the phone is going to be quite powerful, thanks to Helio X20 MT6797 onboard. Previously, we have seen the image of the phone’s back which confirms the presence of a fingerprint sensor.

ZOPO speed 8 fingerprint id

Also, we can see that the camera sensor protrudes a bit from the body, which could mean that the Speed 8 comes with a thin body. There’s even dual tone LED flash just below the sensor.

Finally, the company has also confirmed that the phone will feature a large 3600mAh battery. It’s not the biggest battery we have seen on a flagship, but it’s still large enough to easily power a device for a day or two.

As for the release, we will meet the Speed 8 at MWC 2016 in February. The company adds that its brand ambassador, Jorge Lorenzo will be present at their booth.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Now Comes In Snapdragon 650 Variant, Costs Just $151

Last year, Xiaomi had said that it aimed to sell about 100 million smartphones in just 12 months. Unfortunately, the company fell short of this target, reportedly selling less than 75 million units. But looks like this year, Xiaomi is all set to achieve this target.
First it unveiled the revolutionary Redmi 3 budget smartphone with Snapdragon 616 chipset on board. Now, the company has released a special Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered variant of the existing Redmi Note 3 mid-ranger. Both these smartphones are being offered at killer prices!

redmi note 3 snap 650

The announcement came as a surprise since the Redmi Note 3 by itself was a pretty good value for money device. But this particular version comes with the brand new Snapdragon 650 processor (earlier known as Snapdragon 618) which will be much more powerful than the Helio X10 chip found inside the previous version. It features 2x Cortex A72 cores and 4x Cortex A53 cores, along with Adreano 510 GPU. What’s even more interesting is that the company has decided to price it at just 999 Yuan which comes to around $156. This makes it one of the cheapest 650 powered mid-range smartphones available in the market right now.

The base variant comes with the same 2GB + 16GB internal storage option as before, but there’s a higher-end version as well which features 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Expect it to be a few hundred Yuans higher than base price of 999 Yuan. As for the display, you have a 5.5-inch FHD 1080p screen up front.

Other notable features of the new Redmi Note 3 include support for entire network, VoLTE, 4G+ network, Sunlight Display and 4050mAh battery. As for the camera, you get an upgraded 16MP rear camera sensor with 0.1s ultra-fast PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus). Up front, you have a 5MP shooter.

There seems to be no difference in the design of the two models. So, its basically a better version of the Redmi Note 3 but at the same price.

So, what do you think about the Redmi Note 3 with Snapdragon 650? Do you think with such releases, Xiaomi can achieve its 100 million smartphone sales target in 2016?

Xiaomi Mi 5 Spotted On Gearbest, Specs Leaked

It’s been a long time since we have been waiting for the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship. Naturally, there have been many leaks, and rumors about the device and the frequency has only been increasing as we near the launch, which should be sometime around February 20. Now, the online retailer Gearbest, has just listed the Xiaomi Mi 5 on its website, revealing most of its specifications.

mi 5 HD images 02

While we are unsure whether the specifications will turn out to be true, they are in line with what we have heard from the rumors in the past few months. So, according to the website, the Mi 5 will come with Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.8GHz. It is said that the display will be a 5.2-inch panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The display will also be adorned by 2.5D glass. As for the memory, the phone will have 4GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Like we saw in the earlier renders, the phone has a fingerprint sensor as well, which is most likely on the front home button.

At the back, there is a 16MP camera with 6 element lens and f/2.2 aperture. Up front, you will find an 8MP camera. The phone also features NFC according to this listing, not a surprise given that we have already seen leaks supporting this claim. As for the software, the phone runs on Android 5.1 with MIUI 7 on top. Personally, I feel this would be disappointing if true, as we would expect the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow version on a 2016 flagship. Finally, for battery, the listing says that the Mi 5 comes with a 3600mAh capacity lithium-ion polymer battery.

The release is said to be on February 20, according to the latest information. Foxconn employees are reportedly working overtime to manufacture enough stock of the Xiaomi Mi 5 by the time of launch.

As for the pricing, Gearbest has listed the phone for $625.80 which a pretty hefty price for a Xiaomi flagship. CEO Lei Jun had earlier hinted that the company will be releasing a 3000 Yuan ($455) smartphone this year. So, we can expect the official price of the Mi 5 to be around this figure, and not as much as $650. That’s probably the third party retailer pricing.

But for now, we can’t be sure of these specs or even the pricing. So, we better wait for more information.

Xiaomi Redmi 3 vs Lenovo Lemon 3: A Hard Decision!

Just a day after Xiaomi released its Redmi 3 budget smartphone, Lenovo unveiled its brand new Lemon 3 smartphone. There’s no doubt from the timing of the launch or the pricing that this new phone is targeted to compete directly with the Redmi 3. Although the two phones have almost similar specs, they do have some differences to make sure that it will be a pretty hard decision to choose between the two.

redmi 3 vs lemon 3

So, let’s take a look at the Xiaomi Redmi 3 vs Lenovo Lemon 3 comparison.

DESIGN

Both the Lenovo Lemon 3 and the Xiaomi Redmi 3 feature metal body. While the Lenovo handset comes in a traditional back design, Xiaomi model has a plaid design pattern at the back, which some may like. For others, Xiaomi also offers a plain design variant.

redmi 3-01

The Redmi 3 comes in three colors namely, silver, gray and gold. On the other hand, the Lenovo Lemon 3 comes in just silver color.

lenovo_lemon_3-01

The Lemon 3 is slightly thinner than the Redmi 3 measuring 7.99mm. But I am sure many won’t mind the additional 0.5mm thickness on the Redmi 3 owing to its large battery onboard.

When it comes to design, it’s always going to be a personal preference. So, we will leave it to you to decide which one looks better in the Xiaomi Redmi 3 vs Lenovo Lemon 3 design comparison.

CPU & MEMORY

If we told you that $100 phones would feature Snapdragon 615 processor a couple of months back, you may not have believed us. However, this is exactly what’s happening now. Both the Xiaomi Redmi 3 and the Lenovo Lemon 3 comes with the latest mid-range chipset from Qualcomm, namely the octa-core Snapdragon 616. With 2GB of RAM on board, you no longer have to worry about sluggish performance on budget smartphones.

Both the devices feature 16GB of base storage which is further expandable via MicroSD.

DISPLAY

While both the devices come with a 5-inch compact display, the Lenovo Lemon 3 has an edge over the Redmi 3, thanks to its full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution screen. This translates into a pixel density of 440 ppi, which means the screen is going to look much clearer than the Xiaomi model. On the other hand, the Redmi 3 will feature just HD resolution screen, translating into a pixel density of 294 ppi.

CAMERA

Quite frankly, it’s hard to decide which phone will have the better camera until we get our hands on the devices. But on paper, the Xiaomi might have an edge with a 13MP rear camera sensor and PDAF that focuses in just 0.1 seconds. Even the Lemon 3 comes with a 13MP shooter, but it lacks PDAF (since the company hasn’t officially mentioned it as a feature).

As for the front camera, both the devices feature a 5MP shooter.

BATTERY

One of the major differences between the two devices can be found in the battery department. The Xiaomi Redmi 3 comes with one of the largest battery in its segment with a total capacity of 4100mAh. On the other hand, the Lenovo Lemon 3 comes with a 2750mAh battery.

Lenovo’s battery is actually quite decent for its size and price segment, but then when directly compared to the Redmi 3’s super large battery, it no competition.

CONNECTIVITY & SOFTWARE

You have all the usual features on both the devices like dual SIM dual standby, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE support and so on. However, Lenovo Lemon 3 gets a slight edge here in the speaker department thanks to its Dolby Atmos technology. It seems to be the same tech that is found inside the company’s K4 Note mid-ranger.

As for the software, both the phones run on Android 5.1 with the respective skins from their manufacturers.

PRICING

Lenovo has matched Xiaomi when it comes to the pricing of the Lemon 3. So, both the Redmi 3 and Lemon 3 smartphones retail for a price tag of just 699 Yuan which comes to around $106. This makes them some of the best value for money devices that we have seen in the market lately.

Surely, budget smartphones never looked this good!

CONCLUSION

Xiaomi Redmi 3 vs Lenovo Lemon 3

As you can see in the comparison, there are a few areas where both the phones differ. For example, if you are looking for a better screen, Lemon 3 is naturally your better choice. But if you want an exceptional battery life, then look no further than the Redmi 3. Another big difference is the Dolby Atmos speakers on the Lenovo model, which is not found on the Redmi 3. But then, the latter comes with PDAF that focuses in 0.1 seconds, which is great for photography lovers.

So, it really boils down to what feature you want the most and which one are you ready to sacrifice. There is no doubt that both are exceptional smartphones! So, its always going to be a hard decision choosing between the two.

Anyways, we would like to know which smartphone would you pick between the Xiaomi Redmi 3 vs Lenovo Lemon 3. Also, do you have any better/ similar smartphones that you think can beat/ compete with these two?

Ulefone Future will be Bezel-less, with MTK Helio P10 and 4GB RAM

ulefone future

Though Ulefone Power is well sold now, it will not guarantee Ulefone a bright prospect in 2016, because the flagship that leads the fleet must be something new. For the moment, Ulefone Future seems to be the very device the company needs for the future.

Ulefone Future will be more inspiring than anything Ulefone has created. It has a face without bezel between display and the left/right edges, so it will be slimmer than most 5.5-inch devices such as iPhone 6 Plus. You can’t find a volume rocker on its frame because there will be an invisible volume rocker for touch. Its fingerprint scanner will neither sits on the front side nor on the rear, because it will be located on the right edge. The Future will be Ulefone’s first metal uni-body device. And it will come with both Android 6.0 and CyanogenMod.

Inside, there will be MTK6755 2GHz octa-core 64-bit chipset, 4GB RAM, and 32GB storage. Definitely, it will be Ulefone’s flagship device in 2016.

We can see from the official video that UlefoneH has actually been making the bezel-less phone and since Ulefone need to reserve some marketing energy in the beginning of the year, the launch of new flagship may not be far away.

Huawei’s Kirin 950 Has A High Version, Spotted On GeekBench

Huawei announced the Kirin 950 chipset late last year. The chip featured the powerful Cortex A72 cores, making it one of the fastest available SoCs of its time. However, since then, we have come across pretty good chips like Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 which are likely to beat 950 in terms of performance. In fact, in the previous Geekbench tests, Mate 8 powered by Kirin 950 couldn’t cross the 2000 mark in the single-core test.

But looks like there will be a special high-end version of the chip. Today, an “unKnown HUAWEI” device was spotted on the benchmarking website, Geekbench, with significant performance improvements. The device managed to score more than 2000 points in the single-core test.

Kirin 950 high version

Even in the multi-core test, the device managed to score 7239 points which is better than the deca-core Helio x20 (leaked score). The specifications of the processor inside the device is similar to Kirin 950 with four Cortex A72 cores and Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.

MT6797 helio x20 geekbench
Helio X20 Geekbench

So, this could be a special high-end edition of the Kirin 950, probably Kirin 955. However, increasing the frequncy of each cores inside may not be the ideal solution. For example, with increased frequency, we wouldn’t want the device to overheat. So, it would be interesting to see where Huawei plans to use this high-end version.

Lenovo K5 Note Passes Through TENAA, Could Feature Helio P10 Processor

Just yesterday, we reported that the Helio P10 octa-core chip will end up in more than 100 different smartphones. Since then, we have seen a couple of phones with this chip inside, first being the Gionee W909. Now, it looks like another smartphone with Helio P10 has just been spotted as Lenovo K52t38 aka Lenovo K5 Note has just passed through TENAA.

Lenovo K5 Note 01

The Lenovo K5 Note will feature an octa-core chip clocked at 1.8GHz. It’s most likely the new Helio P10 processor. Along with this chip, the phone comes with 2GB of RAM onboard and 16GB of internal storage. The storage is further expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card slot.

Lenovo K5 Note 02

As for the display, the Lenovo K5 Note features a 5.5-inch FHD 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution screen. The camera at the back will be of 13MP while, up front, you will find an 8MP shooter. The battery is pretty large, with a capacity of 3500mAh. It should easily last you a day with these specifications. Other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Dual SIM dual standby and 4G LTE connectivity.

Lenovo K5 Note 03

With a 3500mAh battery on board, the Lenovo K52t38 isn’t the thinnest phone around with an 8.49mm thick metal body. As for the weight, it weighs around 165 grams. You will also find a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device. Finally, for software, the phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, most likely with Lenovo’s own skin on top.

At the moment, this is all the information we have about the Lenovo K5 Note aka Lenovo K52t38. The phone looks like an upper mid-range offering. Since it has passed through TENAA, we can expect the company to announce the device sometime soon in China.

Nubia To Release Prague S On January 18

We have seen a couple of Nubia devices in renders and leaks in the past couple of weeks. One was the rumored Nubia Z11, the successor to the Z9 and the other was the new Nubia X8 flagship. While we expected the company to announce either of the two products at the January 18 event next week, it looks like Nubia will release the Prague S model at the event.

Nubia Prague S teaser

Earlier today, the company released a new teaser poster via its official Weibo account, where it revealed that it will announce the Nubia Prague S model next week. In this regard, the company also noted that there were just five days left for the launch. So, it looks like we may not see any of above two flagships at this event.

Unfortunately, we haven’t heard anything about the new Prague S in terms of leaks or renders. All our focus has been on the Nubia X8 and the Z11 till now, so it would be interesting to see what the upcoming device brings to the table.

Prague is not Nubia’s high-end smartphone series, so we can expect something mid-range from the Prague S. To give you some perspective, the Nubia My Prague came with 5.2-inch FHD 2.5D glass display, Snapdragon 615 with 2GB/ 3GB RAM and 16GB/ 32GB storage options, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, 2200mAh battery (with fast charge) and a super slim – 5.5mm thin metal body.

At this moment, we have very little information about the device. But since the company has said that it will release the device in five days, we can expect more information pretty soon.

Elephone Four Product Launch 2016 coming on the 15th

Elephone Four Product Launch 2016

Elephone Four Product Launch 2016 coming on the 15th

The Elephone Four Product Launch 2016 has now been given an official time and date, at 2.30pm (GMT+8) on January the 15th you will be given full details of four Elephone products.

The P9000 handsets will be shown along with full product details and specifications, hopefully including a chance to see a finalised version of the P9000 Edge, as whilst most of the phones specs are well documented having been covered as part of the recent crowd funding promotion, the P9000 Edge has yet to be seen in the wild, hopefully it can live up to the renders that have been shown previously.

P9000 Black White Front

Their will also be coverage of the Elephone W2 watch, from what we have seen and been told so far it will feature a stainless steel case comparable in quality to those produced by high end watch manufacturers such as Longines and Ronda, along with an internal movement used by makers like Cartier, these are certainly very bold statements to make and a lot of people will doubt them, so lets wait and see if the W2 watch lives up to them.

ele watch w2

When it comes to features a cool looking illuminated night light, and will support smart functions such as sleep and sports monitoring, sedentary reminders, call reminders and is compatible with both IOS and Android operating systems.

ele watch w2-3

Overall the design looks high end and is visually pleasing, the changeable real leather watch strap should also add to the sense of quality and give it a touch of style.

ele watch w2-4

Elephone will be giving a 50% discount on the watch as part of the Elephone Four Product Launch 2016, but we will need to wait till the 15th to find out exactly what we need to do in order to take advantage of the 50% off offer and if it will be limited to a certain number of applicants.

ele watch w2-5

Another handset that will be covered as part of the Elephone Four Product Launch 2016, is the M3 Business phone, it will come in two different specification levels, with the differences between versions being the camera and memory specifications.

Elephone M3 Pro

The top of spec M3 includes a 5.5″ LG screen, USB Type-C 3.0, 21MP Sony230 camera, Android 6.0 and fingerprint scanner.

Both versions of the M3 feature Network B allowing them to be used all around the world including America.

Elephone M3 Pro Rose Gold

The aviation grade aluminium body will come in a range of three colours rose gold, champagne gold and smoky grey.

As mentioned above there will be a mystery product covered at the Elephone Products Conference 2016, what do you think it will be? another handset range? perhaps a Vape unit? possibly a drone? its hard to say with Elephone as they are constantly evolving their range of products, meaning that we will have to wait for the Elephone Products Conference 2016 to find out for sure.

Elephone will be updating their official twitter, Google+, Facebook and VK accounts throughout the day, allowing you to keep up with the updates as they happen.

So will you be tuning in for the Elephone Four Product Launch 2016? are you waiting to find out more about the P9000 Edge? or are you intrigued by the mystery device?

Elephone have recently tried very hard to shake off their image as a provider of good hardware with limited support, their use of higher quality components has helped as has the work they have done with software updates for older handsets.

I have personally been using my Elephone P8000 again from the 1st of January (having lost my Samsung S5) the handset has come on leaps and bounds with recent OS updates making it into the phone it should have been at launch.

If they can bring out the P9000 and M3 phones with a great rom and the attention to detail they deserve this could be the year that Elephone return to favour, if they get the software wrong however it could be hard to come back from.

Please feel free to leave comments or questions below

OPPO F1 Official With Snapdragon 616 & 3GB RAM, Goes On Sale In Vietnam On Jan 21

OPPO revealed that it will be unveiling the OPPO F1 camera-centric smartphone sometime this month. Now, it looks like Vietnam will be the first market to get the device as the phone will go on sale in the country on January 21. However, don’t worry if you are not in Vietnam, as the smartphone will soon be available in other international markets.

OPPO F1 002

The OPPO F1 comes with Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor under its hood clocked at 1.7GHz. There’s 3GB of RAM on board which should be more than enough for your everyday multi-tasking. Also, you get 16GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot, in case you want to expand it further. As for the display, there’s a decent 5-inch IPS panel up front with Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

OPPO F1 001

At the back, you will find a 13MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and single LED flash. While we don’t know the real-life performance of this sensor, you can expect to take pretty good pictures since the focus of the F series is going to be its camera. Up front, you have an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture lens ideal for selfies. You get some software additions as well, like Beautify 3.0, 8 live color filters etc.

OPPO F1 003

Battery is a bit of a disappointment since the phone comes with just a 2500mAh capacity one. But then, you have a pretty thin body measuring just 7.25mm in thickness. There’s 4G LTE connectivity and dual SIM dual standby support. As for software, you get Color OS 2.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop version.

Pricing has never been the selling point of OPPO devices, and with the OPPO F1 too, there has been no exception. The phone will go on sale in Vietnam for approximately $289. For this price, we would have wanted at least a larger battery. Also, given that there are options like the Redmi 3 that features the Snapdragon 616 chipset, it would really be interesting to see how OPPO F1 performs in different markets in the coming weeks.
