Get a DIY Google Cardboard kit for just $3.66, free shipping too

cardboardWhile virtual reality is far from mainstream at this point, we’ve been hearing about it more and more in the news. VR doesn’t always mean expensive devices like the Occulus Rift, or even Samsung’s mobile-oriented Galaxy VR. Back at I/O 2014, Google showed off “Cardboard” a do-it-yourself kit that utilizes a piece of cardboard with a magnet, a rubber-band and a couple pieces of plastic.

Though it is a Macgyver-style contraption, Cardboard actually works, though Google doesn’t sell the device, instead only offering up instructions for building your own and giving developers an SDK kit so they can make their own VR experiences. For those that would like to try Cardboard without having to source your own pieces, however, there have been a number of places that have offered a DIY kit with all the necessary components but a new deal from TinyDeal gives you Cardboard for the cheapest price to-date, $3.66 with free shipping.

For those wondering a bit about what devices work with Cardboard and what app experiences are out there, you’ll find a list of apps and other details over at Reddit. As for devices, the only handsets discovered to be fully compatible with the cheap VR headset are the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Moto X, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Nexus, but there’s a number of handsets that at least partially work with the low-cost tech.

ZTE USA
ZTE USA

ZTE has massive plans in its head for grabbing the U.S. market. ZTE has openly challenged Xiaomi, the leading and most popular Chinese smartphone maker. According to Lixin Cheng, the CEO of ZTE U.S. operations, the company has a target of increasing the sale twice than before, this year. The next plan is to bypass and go one step ahead of LG. LG has been at number 3 position in U.S. market. ZTE wants to dethrone LG and wants to fetch that number three spot.

The current position of ZTE in smartphone market is a bit confused. ZTE says that they are just a step down than the LG, i.e. they are at number four in U.S. smartphone market. But the data and market analysis by ComScore data in July didn’t include ZTE even in the top five positions. LG was at third position in this list. Reports suggests that ZTE is facing a dark phase in China as it has been removed from the top 5 smartphone companies of China. The CEO of US operations, Cheng mentioned that the ZTE has set up milestone by selling 10 million ZTE smartphones in the U.S. market during last year and now the company has aim to reach the target of 20 million. To achieve its goal, the company has planned to launch a diverse range of mixed range products, like ZTE cool, ZTE Nubia 5S Mini, etc.

A few months back, ZTE was thinking of increasing its advertising and marketing budget in the U.S. to $120 million. For this, the company has signed a deal with a well-known basketball team – Houston Rockets.

Xiaomi MiTalk 2015

Xiaomi has updated its messaging app, MiTalk also known as Mi Liao. The update is known as MiTalk 2015. The very first mobile messaging app from Xiaomi, MiTalk was launched four years back in November 2010. This MiTalk was launched way before than WeChat by Tencent. WeChat was the most dominating app in China’s smartphone market before the launch of MiChat. Lei Jun, CEO and co-founder of Xiaomi in an event, mentioned that if Tencent would release its messenger WeChat 6 months later than the MiTalk then definitely the Xiaomi’s MiTalk would be a hit. But Tencent released WeChat within two months of the launch of MiTalk.

Xiaomi never felt under confident and always tried hard to be the best in the field of instant messaging. MiTalk managed to survive in the presence of WeChat. Xiaomi has claimed that MiTalk has got 70 million users out of which 7.5 million are active every day. Last month company has confirmed this news of 70 million users all over the world.

Red Mi update: Are these the specs of the new Red Mi phone?

It was reported earlier that Red Mi and Xiaomi are planning to release a new flagship phone this Christmas. Today, a nosy netizen posted what are purportedly the specifications of the new 1499 RMB Red Mi phone.

According to the netizen, the new Red Mi phone seems to have better specifications than the Meizu MX4. It uses the MT6595 chipset, has 3G RAM, and sports a 5.5-inch FHD display screen and 20.7mp camera. It is also said to be powered by a 3500mAh battery. The prices for the 16G, 32G, and 64G are supposed to be 999 RMB (162.70 USD), 1299 RMB (211.56 USD), and 1499 RMB (244.14 USD) respectively. The prices do not seem to fit this phone’s specs so there is some doubt on whether this is true. The netizen even admitted that he was pulling numbers out. Even though this information seems almost impossible to be true, it looks like the Red Mi is trying to steal the MX4’s thunder, so it should not be surprising if its specs are very high.
