Honor View 20 India launch scheduled on 29th January, will be sold exclusively on Amazon

Honor has been teasing the launch of its Honor View 20 smartphone in India since the past few weeks. Now, the company has confirmed that the phone will be launched in India on 29th January and has sent out ‘Save The Date’ invites. The smartphone has already been confirmed to be sold exclusively through Amazon.

The Honor View 20 is the international variant of the Honor V20 launched in China last month. The global launch of Honor View 20 is scheduled to take place on 22nd January at an event in Paris, France and just a week after that, the phone will go official in India.

Since the Honor View 20 is just a rebranded model of the Honor V20, it will come with the same specifications. It features a 6.4-inch IPS LCD screen that supports 2310 x 1080 pixels Full HD+ screen resolution. It offers 91.82 percent screen-to-body ratio and 382ppi pixel density.

Under the hood, the device is powered by 7nm Kirin 980 octa-core chipset, along with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage. It comes with a unique horizontal arrangement for its dual camera setup which includes Sony IMX586 48-megapixel primary sensor and a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) stereo lens. At the front, there’s an AI-powered 25-megapixel snapper.

Running on Android Pie-based Magic UI 2.0, the phone features GPU Turbo technology for accelerated performance. The Chinese manufacturer claims that the GPU performance is 20 times better than other mainstream smartphones.

For accurate GPU positioning, it packs dual-band GPS technology. There’s also the Link Turbo technology that aggregates LTE and Wi-Fi connections offering uninterrupted internet connectivity. Other connectivity options include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB-C. The 4,000mAh battery in the smartphone comes equipped with support for 4.5V/5A rapid charging.

In China, the smartphone is available in Magic Night Black, Charm Blue Sear, and Charm Red colors. As for the pricing, the 6GB RAM model is priced at 2,999 Yuan (approximately $435) while the 8GB RAM model costs 3,499 Yuan, roughly $505.

As for the phone’s availability in the Indian market, it is expected to go on sale soon after its official announcement through Amazon.in. The Honor View 20 is expected to be priced under Rs. 40,000 (approx. $575) and will compete against the likes of OnePlus 6T.

Honor 10 Lite to reportedly launch in India later this month

A couple of months ago, in November, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor launched its Honor 10 Lite smartphone as a watered-down variant of the Honor 10 launched earlier last year and successor to the Honor 9 Lite. Now, the phone is all set to make its debut in India.

According to the reports, the Honor 10 Lite will be launched in the Indian market later this month. While the launch date is not yet known, it is speculated to launch in mid-January.

In China, the Honor 10 Lite is priced at 1,399 Yuan (~$202) for the base model with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage while the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model costs 1,699 Yuan (~$245). The top-end model of the phone which packs 6GB RAM + 128GB storage is available is priced at 1,899 Yuan (approximately $274).

While the Indian pricing is not yet known, we expect it to be similar to that of the Chinese pricing. Also, it’s not known if the company plans to bring all variants to the Indian market. Currently, the smartphone comes in five color options — Gradient Blue, Gradient Red, Lily Valley White, and Magic Night Black.

The Honor 10 Lite features a 6.21-inch IPS LCD Full HD+ display with screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio and about 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 710 chipset.

It comes in either 4GB or 6GB RAM, along with 64GB or 128GB internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot which enables you to further expand the phone’s storage capacity. It also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for added protection.

For photography, the device comes equipped with a dual camera setup on the back, featuring a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor stacked vertically. There’s also a 24-megapixel front camera with artificial intelligence technology.

Connectivity options on the device include Dual SIM, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Bluetooth v5.0 LE, and micro-USB 2.0 port. The phone runs Android 9 Pie operating system out of the box with the company’s own custom interface EMUI 9 on top.

Additionally, it also comes with GPU Turbo technology that enhances GPU performance significantly by increasing graphics processing efficiency up to 60 percent. The device is powered by a 3,400mAh battery which should be enough to last a whole day on a single charge.

OnePlus 3 & OnePlus 3T spotted running Android Pie on Geekbench

When OnePlus announced that it would update the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T to Android Pie, it came as a big surprise. Both phones launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, got an update to Android Nougat and then Android Oreo. Most Android manufacturers only stop at two major OS updates which explains why the OnePlus 3/3T getting Pie is a big deal.

The Android Pie update may be hitting both devices soon as models running the latest version of Android have been spotted on Geekbench. The OnePlus 3 was benchmarked a few days ago (January 3) but the Android Pie-running OnePlus 3T was benchmarked on December 27.

At the moment, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T run OxygenOS 5.0.8 which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. OnePlus canceled the update to Android 8.1 Oreo in favor of the update to Pie. The update to Pie should also bring a new security patch when it begins to roll out.

Verizon Wireless may soon announce a “new” Nokia phone for its prepaid customers. The phone is the Nokia 2V but it is actually a rebranded Nokia 2.1 for the US carrier. The specs of the phone have surfaced online ahead of its official release.

The Nokia 2V has a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720 display. It is powered by the Snapdragon 425 processor and paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. Don’t fret, the Nokia 2V, just like the Nokia 2.1, is an Android Go phone. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) which is designed to work with low specs.

There is a single 8MP camera on the rear of the phone and a 5MP sensor in front for selfies. There is no fingerprint scanner or Face Unlock, so you will have to make do with a pattern, password or PIN for security. The Nokia 2V packs a 4,000mAh battery, a MicroUSB port with OTG support, Bluetooth 4.2, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

There is no info on when it will launch but that shouldn’t be far off seeing as its specs have appeared online.

Design

The design is one of the key elements of Xiaomi Mi Play. It is very hard to find a device in its price range which is as beautiful as this one. It comes with a stunning glass back and it is also the first Xiaomi phone to come with a waterdrop notch. Further, it is a compact phone and it is also very lightweight with just 150 grams. It has even a thin body with just 7.8 mm thickness. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite are classic devices with a full metal unibody design, with the latter being more compact. You can find a lot of devices with similar aesthetics and their price tags, so Xiaomi Mi Play wins the comparison.

Display

Classic IPS panels with marginal differences, so, in terms of viewing quality, we consider it a draw. The real aspect that you should consider is the size of these displays: if you want a phablet suitable for productivity and multimedia, then you should go for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and its 6.26-inch screen. But if you prefer compact devices that fit in a pocket and are easy to use with one hand, then the other twos are better. Xiaomi Mi Play has a smaller notch, so I would prefer it to the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is the device which can provide the best performances because it is equipped with a more powerful chipset: the Snapdragon 636 by Qualcomm running at a max frequency of 1.8 GHz. Further, it is the only to come with up to 6 GB of RAM in the most expensive variant. The second place goes to Xiaomi Mi Play: the first smartphone to pack the new Helio P35 SoC by MediaTek, which is on par with the Snapdragon 632. Further, it is the only to come with Android Pie out of the box, but Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite has Android One, the stock version of the operating system which will be constantly supported by Google.

Camera

Besides being the fastest phone, Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is also the best camera phone for both rear and front cameras. On the rear, it features a bright aperture and it can adapt better to every light condition, while on the front it has a dual selfie camera with a high resolution and a useful depth sensor. Xiaomi Mi Play comes right after with its sufficient rear cameras and a better front camera than Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, but the differences between the Mi Play and Mi A2 Lite in terms of photo quality are minimal.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi Play has an average 3000 mAh battery, so it is excluded from the battery comparison because it cannot compete with its internal concurrence. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite both have a huge 4000 mAh battery and they are among the best battery phones out there. Even though the battery capacity is the same, Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is able to provide a longer battery life because it has a smaller display paired with a very efficient SoC: the Snapdragon 625 which has a very low energy consumption. Even though they are three devices from the same company, you can find these smartphones at similar prices. Xiaomi Mi Play just debuted in China with a $160 price tag, while Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is already available in the global market with a price tag ranging from €180 to €200. At last, Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite with Android One can be found at about €160 thanks to online street prices. This handset is known as the Redmi 6 Pro in China, but in this country it comes with the MIUI instead of Android One.

Meizu releases Flyme 7.2 for beta testers: here are the improvements

If you got a recent Meizu device and want to try the very latest version of its operating system, you will be glad to know that the company has just launched the beta version of the Flyme 7.2. The download will soon be available to users who enrolled in the beta testing phase, but it is not the best version for everyday use. Meizu also confirmed the set of devices which will be soon updated to the new firmware.

The beta will be officially available starting from January 8 for the latest flagships Meizu 16 and 16 Plus as well as the affordable variant 16X. Huawei P30 360° renders show the phone will have three rear cameras and a dewdrop notch

Huawei’s Pro devices usually get take the shine away from the non-pro models but that isn’t too say the non-pro models aren’t great. Renders of the Huawei P30 have been posted online and it reveals the Huawei P20‘s successor will be coming with a number of key new features.

The renders are courtesy of OnLeaks and include a video that shows the phone from all angles.

The Huawei P30 has a bigger display said to be about 6.0 inches in size. It still has a notch but it is a dewdrop notch like that of the Mate 20. The resolution is put at FHD+. The P30 Pro doesn’t have a front-mounted fingerprint scanner like the P20. There also isn’t one on the back which means it will come with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The rear of the phone is covered in glass with a gradient color design. Arranged vertically is a triple camera setup with a dual LED flash below the sensors. The camera housing is raised and there is Huawei’s branding at the bottom.

LG Q9 spotted on Geekbench and Q9 One passes Bluetooth SIG certification, launch imminent

LG is working on at least two new smartphones under its Q9 lineup as LG Q9 and Q9 One have surfaced online on two different platforms. While the LG Q9 appeared on Geekbench, the Q9 One was spotted when its passed Bluetooth SIG certification.

The LG Q9, the company’s upcoming mid-range smartphone, was rumored to be powered by Snapdragon 660 14nm octa-core processor. However, the Geekbench listing reveals that the phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820-series chipset.

The phone managed to score 1,789 points in the single-core test and 3,680 points in the multi-core test. As per the previous leaks, in terms of design, the phone will be nearly identical to the G7 Fit which was launched in August last year as a rebranded model of Q9 in the Korean market.

It is said to feature a 6.1-inch notched IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2280 pixels Full HD+ resolution and will pack 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It is also rumored to feature a 16MP primary camera on the back and an 8MP selfie snapper.

The device could be powered by a 3,550mAh non-removable battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The phone is expected to have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance as well as MIL-STD-810G compliance.

On the other hand, the LG Q9 One with model number LM-Q927L was spotted on the Bluetooth SIG certification site receiving approval. As for the specifications, the phone is expected to come with the same specs as the Q9 but this will be an Android One device, running Android Pie operating system out-of-the-box.

The same model was certified on Wi-Fi Alliance in November 2018. In mid-December, the phone was listed by Netflix amongst the mobile devices that have the certification for streaming its HD and HDR videos.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset’s alleged Geekbench score surfaces online

Last month, Qualcomm unveiled its next-generation flagship chipset for the high-end smartphones — Snapdragon 855. It is the first commercial mobile platform to offer support for 5G connectivity.

Now, ahead of Snapdragon 855-powered smartphone launch, a Geekbench benchmark listing has surfaced online which claims to be of the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset. It seems that the score comes directly from a manufacturer’s test unit.

The listing reveals that the chipset scored 3,545 points in single-core test and 11,150 points in multi-core test. The device used for testing packed 6GB of RAM and was running Android 9 Pie operating system.

Last month, AnTuTu comparison between SD855 chipset with other flagship chipsets from other manufacturers — Kirin 980 and Exynos 9820 revealed that Snapdragon 855 is leading and its test on the upcoming Galaxy S10+ scored 343,051 points. Prior to that, a leak showed SD855 SoC recording 362,292 points in AnTuTu — highest yet for an Android device.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 — successor of the current-generation Snapdragon 845 — comes with support for 5G connectivity and a few other features which are aimed at improving the user experience. It offers 5G connectivity using the company’s own Snapdragon X50 5G modem.

The octa-core processor features four power-saving cores clocked at 1.78GHz, three performance cores clocked at 2.42GHz and another special “gold” core for performance boost which is clocked at 2.84GHz. It is coupled with Adreno 640 graphics processor, which is expected to bring performance improvement.

Just like the Apple A12 Bionic chipset and Huawei’s Kirin 980 processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is also manufactured using the 7nm process by TSMC. It also comes with the company’s fourth-generation, multi-core AI Engine that is claimed to offer up to 3 times the AI performance compared to the SD845.

It also features the world’s first Computer Vision Image Signal Processor (CV-ISP) to deliver new photo and video capture features. For the gaming, the company unveiled Snapdragon Elite Gaming, a set of features in the mobile platform to enhance mobile gaming experiences.

Most of the high-end smartphone coming in 2019 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core chipset. We’ll be seeing devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Xiaomi, LG, HTC, Motorola, Google, Sony, OnePlus, Oppo, and Vivo from early next year.

Huawei recently started rolling out Android Pie on several devices all around the world. Now it is finally the moment for the Indian units of the Huawei P20 Pro and Huawei Nova 3. The company has teased the arrival of the final Android Pie update for these two high-end phones through a post from its official accounts in various social networks. The post contains an image which lists the Android Pie update as “coming soon” for both the handsets in India. Note that, despite India being one of the most profitable markets for the Chinese company, it is not the first region to get the update.

Even in a country as small as Italy, the update started rolling out days ago. Unfortunately, the company decided not to disclose the exact date when Huawei P20 Pro and Huawei Nova 3 will start getting the update in India. But we believe only a few days are separating us from the final roll out. Given that both the handsets are equipped with the octa-core Kirin 970 chipset, there is a high chance that all the other Kirin 970-powered Huawei devices will get the Android Pie update in the near future. We are not only referring to Huawei smartphones, but also several ones by its sub-brand Honor.

The display usually represents the hardest component to remove when it comes to disassembling a smartphone. Indeed, according to the first teardown of the first flagship made in China, the phone is hard to disassemble and repair. The disassembly process is hard especially because you need to remove two displays, but not only for that.

The photos published show that Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition has a very busy motherboard with several components directly attached to it. We are talking about both the displays, the triple camera module found on the back and attached to the motherboard separately, antennas and more. New important software-related elements are now available for three of the most important smartphones from HMD Global: the new Nokia 8.1 and the older Nokia 7 Plus and 8. The Finnish brand just released the kernel source code for the Nokia 8.1 and 7 Plus. In case you never heard about it, it is a component which plays a key role in the development of custom ROMs and kernels allowing to customize a smartphone in a radical way by completely modifying its operating system. By releasing the kernel source code for these handsets, HMD Global accomplished the GPL (General Public License) rules which say that modified source code should always be published in readable format once it is compiled and distributed by smartphones manufacturers.

But don’t expect out of the ordinary custom ROM development for Nokia 8.1 and 7 Plus because currently these devices cannot be unlocked. Indeed, Nokia 8 is the only device released by HMD Global on which you can unlock the bootloader since September last year. Even though they are part of the Android One program providing a stock experience with the operating system, Nokia phones aren’t really the devices which can be considered as suitable for modding. Coming to the Nokia 8 which offers more options for modding, it just received the support to the Pixel’s 3 Night Sight camera mode thanks to a ported camera app.

Google’s first foldable phone reportedly in development under the Pixel line-up

2019 will be the year of foldable smartphones. After FlexPai foldable announced by the Californian company Royole Corporation, Samsung and Huawei will soon unveil their first foldable phones and make them mainstream. Even LG is expected to showcase a foldable phone, but it is expected to launch only in the second half of 2019. According to a tipster, Google will join the club with its first foldable phones under the Pixel line-up. Now new rumors state that the phone is currently in development, but there is no official schedule for its launch. Actually, we do not even know if it will debut soon.

According to the most reliable hypotheses, it will take a while before seeing a foldable phone by Google on the shelves. We may need to wait as long as two generations from now. The release of a foldable phone by Big G was expectable as the Mountain View giant has been working hard with Samsung for its upcoming foldable phone. As we all know, the support to foldable displays was recently added to Android Pie in order to guarantee a seamless user interface as well as a “continuative” experience when the users switch from a folded screen to a tablet-like wide display.

A known Russian blogger recently claimed that the company was working on various Pixel phones and the foldable device was one of them. At the moment, FlexPai from Royole Corporation is the only foldable phone ever announced and it packs the new octa-core Snapdragon 855 chipset by Qualcomm that is currently the best mobile SoC from Qualcomm for the mobile market. Xiaomi is all set to make some changes in its popular Redmi brand. The company confirmed a couple of days back that the brand was going independent, much like Honor acts as a separate brand from Huawei. The primary reason given by Lei Jun for this big change was allowing the two brands, Xiaomi, and Redmi to focus on their respective high-end and low-end segments. But this change might bring some upgrades to the Redmi lineup, at least according to the comments from CEO Lei Jun.

Given his sudden interest in this particular topic, especially before its launch on January 10, it’s likely that the phone swaps the old MicroUSB port for Type-C.

Despite upgrading the processors on recent Redmi smartphones like the Snapdragon 636 in the Redmi Note 6 Pro or its predecessor, the low-cost lineup has almost always used the traditional MicroUSB port. USB Type-C connectors first started appearing nearly three years ago. If you remember, the LeTV trio — Le Max, Le 1 Pro, and Le 1, were the first set of Android smartphones to bring this reversible connector into the mainstream market back in 2015. At that time, we would have thought Type-C ports would become mainstream by the end of 2018. But unfortunately, there’s still a lot of MicroUSB smartphone releases in the market. Even the new Zenfone Max Pro M2 features a MicroUSB 2.0 port, not to mention a bunch of mid-rangers from OPPO like the A7X still featuring this old port.

The upcoming Redmi smartphone is confirmed to come with a 48MP camera on board. Recent TENAA certifications further reveal a few features about the phone, including its gradient design. You can read all about it from here. Another interesting rumor going around is that the Redmi brand could be headed by Gionee’s former president, Lu Weibing. A couple of days back, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun revealed that Lu had joined the company but he failed to reveal his exact role. Samsung Galaxy M20 live photo leaked and key details appear through FCC certification

Samsung is expected to unleash the Galaxy M series of smartphones soon. The Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 are the two Galaxy M phones that are expected to debut soon. Recent reports have revealed that the Galaxy M10 will be packed with entry-level specs whereas the M20 is expected to arrive with mid-range specs. The Galaxy M20 that has a model number of SM-M205F has received certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. The FCC filing of the phone has revealed some of its key specs.

The FCC documents of the Galaxy M20 has confirmed that it will be featuring a 156.4 x 74.5mm. Since the display of the M20 measures 155.9mm diagonally, it is equipped with a 6.13-inch display. Rumors have it that it will be featuring an LCD display. In the previous month, the Galaxy M20 had appeared on AnTuTuv through which it was revealed that it carries support for full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels.

A live image of the smartphone’s display that surfaced through a separate leak has revealed that the M20 will be featuring an Infinity-V display. The notch houses a selfie camera and an earpiece.

The Galaxy M20 FCC documents have also revealed that it will be a dual-SIM phone that will carry support for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE 5.0. It is packed with a battery that has a model number of EB-BG580ABN. It could be the massive 5,000mAh battery that it expected to power the phone. For security, the M20 will be offering features like fingerprint scanner and face recognition. The battery of the M20 will carry support for 9V / 1.67A charging.

Honor has recently confirmed that it will be debuting the Honor 8A smartphone on Jan. 8. The handset will be arriving as a successor for the Honor 7A from the previous year. The entire specifications of the smartphone have already surfaced through its TENAA listings. The official renders of the Honor 8A smartphone has surfaced few days ahead of its launch.

Honor 8A Press Renders

The press renders of the Honor 8A show that it features a teardrop notched display. The bottom bezel of the phone has brand name of the company. The smartphone has an LED equipped single camera on its rear. The rear side of the phone seems to be made out of glass. The handset does not feature a fingerprint scanner which indicates that it is an entry-level smartphone. The Honor 8A will be available in Black and Blue colors. The predecessor Honor 7A had featured a dual camera setup and a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. Hence, the Honor 8A appears like a downgraded device when compared to its predecessor model.

Honor 8A Specifications

The Honor 8A launch poster that the company had released earlier this week had revealed that is equipped with features like waterdrop notch screen, 64 GB of internal storage, octa-core processor and dual speakers. Through the TENAA listings of JAT-AL00 and JAT-TL00 Honor 8A variants, it has been revealed that it will be featuring a 6.088-inch display that will produce HD+ resolution.
