Apple iPhones are globally reputed for the powerful cameras they pack and the latest iPhone XS Max isn’t any different. The South Korean giant has scheduled a two-day conference in San Francisco dubbed Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) on 7th and 8th November. The development comes through Korean Times, which cites an unnamed Samsung official for the information. The unnamed source also said that not much information related to the device will be revealed. It is believed that the Samsung’s foldable smartphone will come with a 7-inch OLED display, that can be folded in half with about 4.5-inch display. Previously, Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung’s IT & Mobile Communications division, reiterated his stance on becoming the world’s first company to introduce a foldable smartphone.

Earlier, there were reports that Samsung has delayed the launch of its foldable smartphone, which was rumoured to happen in November this year. As Samsung is eager to unveil its foldable smartphone ahead of everyone else, we’ll finally get to see Samsung’s foldable phone next month.

Other smartphone manufacturers such as Huawei and ZTE are speeding up their efforts towards foldable smartphone. Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 to launch on October 15?

The Mi MIX series has been a hit since it first arrived in 2016. Xiaomi is set to launch the 4th phone in the series called the Mi MIX 3 anytime soon. Images of the phone were posted on the web by Xiaomi’s own president at IFA Berlin with a promise to launch in October. Now it appears there is an official release date.

Mi MIX 3 release date

An image has surfaced online and it reveals that the Mi MIX 3 will launch on October 15. That is about two weeks from today. Although there is no way to confirm the authenticity of the image, Xiaomi executives did state that October is when the device is scheduled for launch. Nevertheless, we advise you take the above date with a grain of salt until we get confirmation.

The Mi MIX 3, as revealed in the images, will have a slider albeit mechanical. This slider design is because of the very thin bezels around the screen much like that of the Vivo NEX. It will come with a Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood and is also reported to have a dedicated AI assistant button and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Sharp Aquos Zero launched as Sharp’s first OLED display flagship

Sharp has finally joined the bandwagon. The Japanese company has just announced its first smartphone with an OLED display and is called Sharp Aquos Zero. Sharp has all along been known for its attractive LCD panels but during IFA 2018, a device with the model name Sharp 801SH was showcased by the company with an OLED display. That model has now come out as the Aquos Zero and it retains the curved edge display design in addition to the OLED panel.  Sharp Aquos Zero

The Aquos Zero comes with a flagship outlook both in its design and specifications. Being the company’s first OLED phone, it comes out in style as it is touted to be the world’s lightest OLED flagship, weighing just 146g.  That is because it utilises a frame made from magnesium alloy while the rear panel is made of carbon fibre. The display design also includes a notch at the top while the selfie camera is at the middle of the wide notch while the earpiece is nested at the crest. The display also curves at the two side edges to add to the beauty of the device. The design also sees the SIM card slot moving to the top edge inside of the sides. That is because the device is thinner at the edges than at the middle because of the curved edge display. Sharp Aquos Zero

The Aquos Zero is equipped with a massive 6.2-inch notch display with a resolution of 2992 x 1080pixels. The screen utilises the 18.7:9 aspect ratio and is equipped with a 100% DCI-P3 wide color gamut and HDR support. The device has at its heart a Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM while there is 128GB of internal storage.  Sharp Aquos Zero

On the camera end, the Sharp Aquos Zero packs a single camera sensor at the rear. The rear shooter is a humongous 22.6MP sensor while at the front is an 8MP camera for selfies. The rear panel also houses a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone. The device runs Android 9.0 Pie OS out of the box while a 3130mAh battery will keep the lights on.    Sharp Aquos Zero

Furthermore, the Aquos Zero comes with an IP68 level water and dust resistance and is equally equipped with support for Dolby Vision image display and Dolby Atmos stereo technology.

Sharp Aquos Zero Price and Availability

Sharp is yet to disclose the retail price of the model. However, the model will be available for sale in Japan in the winter of this year 2018.

Design

Given that the Y series always included entry-level devices, it was hard to expect beautiful aesthetics from Huawei Y9 (2019). But this time it is the opposite: the Chinese company launched a very impressive device which comes with a glass back and even a gradient color variant. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro did not change its aesthetics and materials compared to the Note 5, while Realme 2 Pro is beautiful but it has a plastic design. So Huawei Y9 (2019) wins.

Display

Always told you that if you want a mid-range phone, you have to face the fact that displays will not offer you the best viewing quality in the market. And that is the same with these devices which come with a classic IPS display which is nothing special in terms of viewing quality. So I would pick the Huawei Y9 just because it offers a bigger size which improves the usability on a device like this, especially for advanced users.

Specs & Software

The gold medal for hardware and performance goes to Oppo Realme 2 Pro as it features the most powerful hardware side. It is equipped with a great Snapdragon 660 chipset by Qualcomm which is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM (8 GB RAM and 182 GB of internal storage in its most expensive variant). Thanks to these components, performances are almost flagship-like in some usage patterns.

Camera

Talking about camera, Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has definitely the best setup, at least on the paper. It features four cameras, two on the front and two on the back. But note that Realme 2 Pro has a brighter aperture on the rear side, so it should be able to shoot very detailed photos in low light conditions.

Battery

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Huawei Y9 (2019) have the biggest battery, and they are surely the devices with the longest battery life. Both Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Huawei Y9 have a 4000 mAh unit which is able to last two days on a single charge on the former, according to Xiaomi. Usually, Xiaomi optimizes the battery in a better way on its mid-rangers, so we believe Redmi Note 6 Pro will last more. But we will be able to confirm it only after testing the Huawei Y9.

Price

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro carries a price tag of $215 in its base variant, Realme 2 Pro costs $102 and Huawei Y9 (2019)’s price is not known yet. Currently I would pick Oppo Realme 2 Pro due to its better performance, but if Huawei Y9 (2019) will come with the same price I will have to rethink my opinion.

Unreleased Vivo Z3i leaks: complete specs, unboxing video, and price

Vivo has released a bunch of phones this year already, and honestly, we just hope they would take a break. If you want more Vivo phones, then brace yourself for the new Vivo Z3i which had a massive leak yesterday. The leak covers everything from specs to images and even an unboxing video.

Vivo Z3i

The Vivo Z series is still fairly new. It launched in the second quarter of the year and already has two phones under its belt – the Vivo Z1 and the Vivo Z1i. Now Vivo is skipping a number and jumping to the Vivo Z3i.

Based on the specs, the Z3i isn’t a more powerful model than the Z1. It has a 6.3-inch display with a waterdrop notch. The phone is said to have a 90.3% screen-to-body ratio and a 19:9 aspect ratio. There is glass on both sides of the phone and the rear has a gradient design.

[envira-gallery id=”215090″]

The phone is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P60 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It has a 24MP front-facing camera and a 16MP + 2MP dual rear camera combo. There are a bunch of camera modes including a beauty mode. The Vivo Z3i has support for face recognition but also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The phone packs a 3,315mAh battery with support for fast charging. When it launches, it will be available in Aurora Blue and Millenium Powder with a ¥2298 (~$334) price tag.

https://youtu.be/b2sAJhGyytI

The unboxing video shows the Vivo Z3i comes in a plain white box. Inside the box is the phone (Aurora Blue). There is a clear TPU case in the box, a charger, cable, and warranty card. The phone has black bezels in front, a curved back and vertically-arranged dual rear cameras.

New Galaxy A and Galaxy J series phones will have wireless charging

As part of its strategy to grab more of the market share for the mid-range category, Samsung has decided to bring some flagship features to these phones. For example, the Galaxy A7 (2018) comes with triple rear cameras, a feature not yet available on a Samsung flagship. New reports say we may soon see wireless charging support in future mid-range models.

Samsung Wireless Charger

The info comes from etnews who reports that Samsung is planning to launch a cheap wireless charger later this month. The wireless charger is to be priced at about $20 and the move is said to hint at the feature being expanded to other series such as the Galaxy J and Galaxy A series.

At the moment, Samsung’s cheapest wireless charger sells for $49.99. It makes sense to link a cheaper wireless charger to a possibility of the feature arriving on other Samsung devices other than the S and Note series. Since these phones will have a cheaper price tag, it is sensible to have cheaper accessories for them.

Huawei Watch GT render and more details emerge ahead of launch

Huawei is expected to launch the Watch GT along with the Mate 20 series on October 16. Ahead of the launch, a smartwatch purported to be the Huawei Watch GT Classic or Fashion has been spotted in a leaked render. The Watch GT is expected to be available in two variants, the second being the Watch GT Sport. The Watch GT Classic variant uses a black and silver bezel combination as can be seen on the render.

The new Huawei smartwatch also packs two buttons on the side and can still be operated via the touchscreen. The watch will also have Bluetooth which is statutory and will have several other sensors like compass, GPS, pressure sensor and an accelerometer. The watch likely also have a heart rate sensor but that isn’t confirmed. A recent FCC listing had confirmed the presence of NFC and a 410mAh battery. However, the battery size is pretty impressive. Moreso, it is bigger than the 291.8mAh cell onboard the latest Apple Watch 4.  Despite the big battery, the Watch GT will also support 5W charging using a charging pad. The charging pad utilises a USB Type-C port.

Pixel 3 teaser ad focuses on Active Edge Technology

One of the distinguishing features between the first-gen Pixels and the second-gen Pixels is Active Edge. Active Edge Technology lets you summon Google Assistant by giving the phone a squeeze. A new video advert released in Japan for the Pixel 3 highlights the feature.

The 40-second video doesn’t show the phone itself but shows a number of people squeezing various objects from giant mascots to balloons to other people. It’s a very colorful video but like mentioned above, it doesn’t show the phone.

On the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL you can set the squeeze sensitivity. You can also have it silence the phone if a call comes in or an alarm rings. If you have no use for it, you can turn off the feature completely. We have no info on if Google will add more functions to the feature for the Pixel 3/XL.

Google Home Mini gets Aura color variant

The Google Home Mini launched last year and is the cheapest Google Home device. When it launched it was available in three colors – Chalk, Charcoal, and Coral. Yesterday, Google announced a new color variant called Aura.

Google Home Mini Aqua

The new color is subtle but should add just the right amount of color to your home. Nothing has changed under the hood, so you still get the same Gooogle Assistant features. Also, the price hasn’t dropped from the $49 Google is asking for the other color variants.

With the new color variant launching just a week before the Google event, it is safe to say we are not getting a second gen Google Home Mini. Google’s biggest rival, Amazon, on the other hand recently announced a bunch of new Echo devices including a 3rd-generation Echo Dot. The Echo Dot is the Google Home Mini’s direct competitor.

Microsoft brings Android mirroring on Windows 10 via Your Phone app

At the Surface launch event, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 would soon get the feature to mirror the whole Android phone. It will allow Android phone users to view and use any app on their Windows devices. The app mirroring feature will show upon installing the Your Phone app on Android and iOS devices. The feature will be supported on Windows 10 for the devices running on Android Nougat or later version. On the other hand, iOS devices will not get the same benefits as they are limited to share the web links only.

Microsoft phone mirroring via Your Phone App
