Huawei‘s midrange models including the Honor 7X, Nova 3 and even the Honor Note 9 are all rumoured to utilize a yet-to-be-announced Hisilicon Kirin 670 chipset. Huawei’s smartphones have lately been focused on using Kirin processors and with massive improvements in its chip business, they stand at par and sometimes even ahead of their contemporaries. The Kirin 670 chip isn’t going to be an exception, considering the details of the chip as featured in a new leak.

Information from industry sources highlights the Kirin 970 as coming with an integrated AI architecture with its own Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This is the same architecture featured on the flagship Kirn 970 and it is interesting to see that Huawei is keeping to its promise to bring the AI chip to its midrange models. In addition, the midrange chipset is also said to have a CPU design housing two Cortex-A72 cores and four Cortex A-53 cores which is the same with the Kirin 950. As we already revealed several months back, the chipset will be built on a 12nm TSMC FinFet process. The chipset will also be integrated with the ARM Mali-G72 MP12 GPU which first made its debut on the Kirin 970-powered Mate 10.

Presently, Kirin 659 is the latest chip in the Kirin 6xx series and it utilizes an octa-core Cortex-A53 architecture as well as a Mali T830 MP2 GPU. Thus, there is a strong indication that this new chipset would come with a significant improvement in performance compared to its predecessor. We don’t have any idea as to when the new chipset would find its way into a launched smartphone but that won’t be too far away, going by Huawei’s leaked product roadmap

The last major release by the company was the Vivo X20 UD edition, which is basically the under display fingerprint version of the current flagship. This means that the company has a good few months in between wherein it can launch its next major flagship model. That’s likely going to be called as the Vivo X21, considering the recent 3C certification of a few models under the same name.

Now a new poster of the Vivo X21 has been spotted online revealing a key feature of the device. Apart from the dual cameras that can be spotted at the back of the phone, the advertisement clearly highlights the fingerprint icon on the screen. This means that the Vivo X21 is likely going to be equipped with an under display fingerprint sensor. Given that it’s going to be the direct successor to the Vivo X20, seeing the Synaptics ClearID sensor inside its screen won’t be a surprise. Further, at the time of its 3C certification, the Vivo X21A model was listed in four different variants, and one of them included a UD (under display fingerprint) variant. This also means that there could be regular versions of the Vivo X21, without the in screen fingerprint that could be cheaper.

That’s all we know about the X21 flagship so far. However, considering its high-end placement, expect nothing less than Snapdragon 670 and 6GB of RAM inside the device. More details should be revealed in the coming days, so stay tuned!

Huawei Y9 (2018) Likely to Debut on March 15; Press Renders, Images Leaked Through FCC Listing

In the previous month, Huawei devices with model numbers FLA-AL00 and FLA-AL10 were spotted at TENAA. A handset with a model number FLA-LX2 has been recently certified by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). The FCC listing has revealed several images of the phone. Also, the appearance of the FLA-LX2 smartphone at The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission body in Thailand has confirmed that it will be debuting as Huawei Y9 (2018). According to a Thai publication, the handset will be unveiled in Thailand on March 15.

The images of the phone that have surfaced through the FCC listing show that it will be arriving with a full screen design. The handset seems to feature a dual selfie camera setup on the top bezel that also houses an earpiece and another sensor. The backside of the phone features a dual camera setup and a fingerprint reader. The top and bottom edges of the phone are flanked with antenna bands.

The bottom side of the phone features a 3.5mm audio jack, a microUSB port and an external speaker. The right side of the phone features a volume rocker and a power key whereas the left edge features a SIM slot.

The FCC listing has not revealed much information on the specs of the phone. However, it has confirmed that the handset will be arriving a 3,900mAh battery. The following image is an evidence that shows that the FLA-LXA (Y9 2018) has been certified in Thailand.

The entire specs of the Huawei Y9 (2018) are known through TENAA listing from previous month. It will be arriving with a 5.93-inch display that supports Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The screen will deliver an aspect ratio of 18:9.

The FLA-AL00 has 32 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM whereas the FLA-AL10 includes 64 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM. Both the models feature a microSD card slot. The Y9 (2018) will come loaded with Android 8.0 Oreo. For photography, the Y9 (2018) models feature 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual front-facing cameras and 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual rear cameras. Both variants are fueled by 3,900mAh battery.

The images of Huawei Y9 (2018) that were revealed through its TENAA listing matches with the photos that have surfaced on FCC. It will be arriving in Gold, Blue and Black models in China. A Thai publication has claimed that it will be debuting on March 15, but it has not revealed any details on its pricing.

China-based smartphone manufacturer Meizu is gearing up to launch its new device — Meizu E3. The company recently announced that the phone will be launched on 21st March.

Now, ahead of the launch, Li Nan, Senior Vice President at Meizu, has uploaded a camera sample of the phone on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. In the same post, he said that the Meizu E3 will come equipped with better CMOS than the one in Meizu M6 Note.

The camera sample image uploaded on Weibo showcases how good the camera quality is. The image is a portrait of a girl in a dark background with light falling on model’s face. This camera sample aims to showcase the dynamic range as well as color reproduction, sharpness and attention to details. Having seen this sample image, we are now looking forward to other sample images of this phone.

Along with the full-screen display, the smartphone industry is also focusing on improving the mobile camera experience for the users and its good to see Meizu jumping in on this. Recently, Samsung launched its flagship smartphones, which also focuses on improved camera performance.

According to the recently leaked specifications, the Meizu E3 could come with a dual camera setup at the back, consisting of a 12-megapixel camera sensor and a 20-megapixel sensor. On the front, the phone is expected to feature an 8-megapixel snapper.

Lenovo S5 Likely to be Announced on March 20

The recently appointed Lenovo Group VP Change Cheng who was previously serving as CEO of ZUK Mobile has revealed on his Weibo that the company will be introducing a new Lenovo phone with a large-sized battery on March 20.

The Weibo post by Cheng was published using the Lenovo S5 smartphone. He has been using this unannounced Lenovo phone for publishing Weibo posts since February end. The following teaser image suggests that the Lenovo S5 could be the phone that will be debuting on March 20.

In January, Cheng had teased the bottom portion of a mysterious Lenovo phone (shown below) that seems to be endowed with a reflective metal body along with a curved design. It is speculated that it could be the Lenovo S5 phone.

The other teaser that was released recently by Cheng suggests that will be arriving with ZUK’s ZUI Android skin. It is also rumored to come with a hardware security chip. The above Weibo post states that the upcoming Lenovo phone will be a thin device with a huge-sized battery of 6,000mAh capacity.

In the previous month, the Lenovo K520 smartphone spotted at TENAA. The handset features a 5.65-inch display that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9 and Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It is fueled by 2 GHz octa-core processor. Its 32 GB and 64 GB storage models respectively feature 3 GB and 4 GB of RAM. It is running on Android 8.0 Oreo.

The Lenovo K520 has a dual camera setup on its rear side and one of its sensors is of 8-megapixel. The front panel houses an 8-megapixel selfie camera. A 3,000mAh battery powers the phone. Some rumors have claimed that it could be the upcoming Lenovo S5 phone. What’s interesting about this phone is that the rear view of the phone resembles with the image that was shared by Cheng. However, it does not feature a 6,000mAh battery.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S Design Teased Officially; Launch Event to be Held at Shanghai

The specifications and features of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S flagship phone have already surfaced in the recent leaks. However, the mystery surrounding the design of the phone has remained unsolved as none of the leaked images/renders that have emerged so far have revealed its exact appearance. Today, Xiaomi has released yet another teaser of the Mi MIX 2S on its Weibo account. The teaser not only reveals the design of the phone, but also confirms where it will be holding its launch event.

Xiaomi will be announcing the Mi MIX 2S through an unveil event in Shanghai, China. The event will be held on March 27. The image shown below shows that the handset will be sporting slim bezels at its top, left and right sides. The bottom bezel is not visible in the image.

Since the top bezel is quite thin, its selfie camera could be placed on the bottom bezel like the predecessor phone. Moreover, the new firmware files of the Mi MIX 2S have also revealed that it is equipped with bottom positioned front camera. Hence, it can be assumed that the front design of the phone may not be different from the predecessor model. It is likely that the Mi MIX 2S may arrive with reduced bezels.

As far as the rear view of the phone is concerned, the recent firmware files of the phone have revealed that it is equipped with dual camera setup. A leaked photo that was spotted yesterday revealed that the Mi MIX 2S has a vertically stacked dual camera setup on the top-left corner of the rear panel. The dual camera system appears quite similar to the one found on iPhone X. A fingerprint scanner is placed on the backside of the phone.

Meizu’s 2018 Product Roadmap Revealed In Leaked “Official” Memo

The year 2017 wasn’t a very good one for Meizu in terms of smartphone sales. Of course, the Chinese phone maker released way lesser number of smartphones than it did in 2016 which is a measure to cut operating cost. There were also reports of other cost-cutting measures such as laying off some of its staff. The company is expected to get back into the competition for market shares with the same conservative phone launch pattern adopted last year. As of now, we only know of the Meizu E2 which will go official this month and the Meizu 15 series which a recent rumour says would launch in April but an internal memo purported to be from Meizu has given us an idea of the company’s strategy going forward.

Apart from these two models, Meizu is expected to roll out a couple of more models and nothing more. That is if the leaked Meizu’s 2018 product roadmap is anything to go by. The document is in Chinese but the leak source was kind enough to give us a short summary. According to the detail, Meizu is expected to release three products in the first half of the year. While in the second half, the company will release two more models making it a total of five smartphones. Out of the lot, about four of them would be Blue Charm models meaning we should look forward to premium mid-range models. That is also suggestive that Meizu plans to focus more on the mid-range market than on the flagship segment.

Sony on Tuesday took the wraps off the Xperia XA2 Ultra China edition at a ceremony held in Beijing. The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra comes with a 2,999 Yuan (~$475) price tag. The new version is already available on Jingdong for preorders.

The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra still features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset just like the version launched at CES 2018. The chipset is paired with 4GB of RAM while there is 64GB of storage onboard. On the display screen size, the Xperia XA2 Ultra features a 6.0-inch display with the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. The display has a full HD resolution of 1980 x 1080pixels.

Basically, the design is similar to that of its predecessor – the Xperia XA Ultra but there are a few changes like a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a repositioning of the rear camera. The rear camera module, which was at the top-left corner on last year’s Xperia XA Ultra, has now been moved to the centre position.

Furthermore, on the camera end, the Xperia XA Ultra features a 23-megapixel camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture, hybrid autofocus and support for 4K video recording and 120fps slow-motion shooting. On the front, the Xperia XA2 comes with an 8-megapixel ultra wide fixed-focus camera for taking selfies and video calling. The device also features a dual-camera setup on the front with an 8-megapixel camera sensor and a 16-megapixel camera sensor with less extreme FOV, 16:9 aspect ratio, autofocus, and optical image stabilisation (OIS). The device also runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box but that should be with a custom skin. In addition, there is a 3,580mAh battery under the hood with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.

The Xperia XA2 ultra will officially go on sale from March 12 at 10 am but presale has already started on Jingdong (JD.com). Here is the product page.

Microsoft Launches New Surface Pro With LTE Advanced

When Microsoft announced the Surface Pro last May, it said it was going to release a version with LTE before December. It did release the LTE version but availability was limited to business users only.

Starting today, anyone can pre-order the LTE version of the Surface Pro from Microsoft or Best Buy. The key difference between this and the non-LTE model is the presence of a LTE modem (Qualcomm’s X16 modem). This allows users to connect to the internet by throwing in a nano-SIM slot or using the eSIM on board.

It actually comes with both options and there is a settings menu to let you witch between the nano SIM or eSIM if you happen to have a data plan on both.

The internals are still the same. You get a 7th-gen Core i5 7300U processor with 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage or 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Price is $1,149 and $1,449 respectively. The above prices doesn’t include the Surface Pen and Surface Keyboard as you have to purchase those separately.

One would think that the delay in availability would mean the device would come with an 8th-gen processor, but that didn’t happen. It is also not available in a Core i7 configuration.

If the Surface Pro with LTE is expensive for you, then you can wait for the Always Connected PCs with LTE and ARM processors (Snapdragon 835) to go on sale.

Rumour: Meizu 15 To Launch In April, Feature an AMOLED Display

The display notch design utilised by Apple on the iPhone X is turning out to be yet another growing trend. The design was featured on the ASUS Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5Z and the upcoming OPPO R15 will launch with that design. A new rumour has now emerged about the Meizu 15 and a notch design isn’t among one of the features of the Meizu 15 flagship.

The source of the rumour is a Chinese tipster known as Mocha RQ who hinted that the Meizu flagship should be expected in April after the launch of the Meizu E2. The E2 will go official this month. The Meizu 15 is also expected to pack a conventional full-screen design. The device will have a 5.5-inch AMOLED display and not on made from LCD panel.

The processor that would be utilized on the Meizu 15 is still shrouded in mystery. A MediaTek chipset is out of the question since MediaTek announced way back that it was temporarily halting further efforts in the production of high-end chipsets. The likely contenders include Samsung’s Exynos 9810, Exynos 8895 chipset as well as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and 845 chipsets.

Leaked Huawei P20 Promotional Images Show Triple Rear Cameras & Notch

On Huawei’s official launch poster for the P20 series, it teases the series will come with three cameras by adding two additional “Os” to the tagline “SEE MOOORE WITH AI”. However, leaked images of the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Lite show both devices with just two rear cameras.

Leaked promotional images have been seen on Weibo and they show off a Huawei P20 with 3 rear cameras. This could be any of the three phones in the series but our guess is that it is the Huawei P20 Pro.

Two of the cameras share the same housing in a similar design to that of the iPhone X while the third sits below the setup. There is also a dual LED flash beneath the third camera and the LEICA branding.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S to Feature Dual Rear Cameras, Wireless Charging, AR Support; Design Could be Like Mi MIX 2

In the previous month, XDA Developers had revealed several key information of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S through its firmware files. Today, the publication has reveal some more interesting information about the Mi MIX 2S through its new firmware files.

The firmware files that were obtained in February was quite close to the final version. However, the Mi MIX 2S was mentioned with its “Polaris” codename throughout the firmware. The firmware that was recently obtained by the publication appears to be much closer to the software that will be arriving on the final device.

AI Dual Camera

Earlier this week, Xiaomi had teased the AI capabilities of Mi MIX 2S’ camera. Shown below is the watermark that will appear on photos that are snapped while using the Mi MIX 2S. As it can be seen, the watermark carries the text “AI Dual Camera.” This confirms that the Mi MIX 2S will be the first Mi MIX phone to feature dual rear cameras.

It is speculated that Sony IMX363 could be its main sensor. A new teaser suggests that the two cameras can function independently. A leaked photo that has surfaced today shows that the Mi MIX 2S will be coming with vertically arranged dual camera setup like the iPhone X.

It has been previously revealed through the firmware files that the handset will be supporting scene recognition for following scenes flower, food, sky, sunrise/sunset, cat, dog, green plants, night, snow, sea, autumn, candlelight, car, grass, maple leaves, succulent, building, city, cloud, overcast, backlight and doc (document).

Appearance

Following renders of the Mi MIX 2S that have surfaced in the recent past have suggested that its selfie camera could be placed inside a notch (similar to iPhone X) or at the top-right corner. However, it has been revealed through the firmware files that the selfie camera of the Mi MIX 2S would be placed on the bottom bezel like the Mi MIX and Mi MIX 2 predecessor phones.

This indicates that none of the renders that have appeared in the past have revealed the true design of the phone. The placement of the selfie camera suggests that designed of the MI MIX 2S will be similar to its predecessor.

Wireless Charging

Leaked information had claimed that Xiaomi Mi 7 could be the company’s first phone to feature wireless charging. Through the new firmware of the Mi MIX 2S, a video has been obtained. It shows that MIUI let users know how to correctly place the device on the Qi wireless charging pad.

The device shown in the above video is a generic Xiaomi device. However, its design is quite similar to the Mi MIX 2 and also seems to belong to Mi MIX 2S.

ARCore Support

Google has ended Project Tango initiative at the beginning of this month. It was Google’s attempt towards bringing AR to smartphones. The project has been succeeded by ARCore, a software-based solution to bring AR to smartphones through ARKit. The search engine giant has recently confirmed that it would bring support for augmented reality through ARCore 1.0 to various devices like Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, LG V30, LG V30+, ASUS ZenFone AR and OnePlus 5. It has also stated that it will be working companies like Huawei, Motorola, Xiaomi, HMD Global, ZTE, Sony Mobile and Vivo.

One of the references (shown above) in the firmware files of Mi MIX 2S reveals that it will be supporting Google ARCore at launch.
