Drones have really caught the attention of a lot of customers in the past couple of years. As a result, there are more and more companies who are trying to build their own unique drone. Qualcomm aims to make this process extremely simple by providing a feature rich board using which companies can design their drones.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon Flight Reference Platform will be an all-in-one board combining the power of Snapdragon 801, robust connecitivity and advanced software and development tools. The board enables real time flight control on the Hexagon DSP. It features advanced connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc. Finally, the platform gives you access to the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) for accurate location tracking.

One of the highlights of the board is its size. It measures just  58x40mm offering such high-tech capabilities. In fact, thanks to the 4K video support of the Snapdragon Flight, the company managed to demo one of the world’s smallest 4K drone.

Other interesting features include Barometer sensor, additional ports for new sensors, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology and dual cameras for depth sensing.

Overall, the Snapdragon Flight is a feature rich board for anyone who wants to build a drone. You no longer have to contact multiple suppliers for different parts of your device. Everything is included in the board including the communication as well as camera components.

The company adds that one of the leading drone manufacturers, Yuneec will be releasing its first drone based on Snapdragon Flight in 2016. Select manufacturers already have access to this board and the first drones will be available to purchase in the first half of 2016.

Lenovo To Enter OEM Business: Will Start Manufacturing Handsets!

According to the latest report from Taiwan, Lenovo has decided to enter into the handset manufacturing business as a part of the company’s new restructuring plan.

wpid-wp-1441949388925.jpeg

This is not very surprising since the company hasn’t been in its best form in the past couple of quarters. Lenovo posted a loss of nearly $300 million in the second quarter of 2015. Further, it is said that the Lenovo Mobile’s shipments have actually started to decline recently. As a result, the company has been making some strategic changes internally to get back to profitability.

Fierce competition from rival companies like Xiaomi, LeTV, Meizu as well as Huawei has affected the profitability of Lenovo Mobile significantly. However, with this strategic move, Lenovo may even offer its factories for manufacturing smartphones from rival companies such as above.

After reporting its Q2 earnings, Lenovo had said that the company will no longer just focus on increasing its market share, instead it will pay more attention to quality, supply chain efficiency and profitability.

The report from Digitimes adds that the main reason for the company to enter the OEM handset business was to improve its capacity utilization rate also known as operating rate. The earlier factories were not up to the mark, and hence, the company decided to enter the industry to improve the rate.

With Lenovo’s entry into OEM handset manufacturing, business of companies like Compal Electronics, FIH Mobile and Foxconn could be affected.

Cubot H1 Hands On: 5200mAh Battery in a Compact Body

A couple of weeks back, we had reported about a new smartphone from Cubot called as the Cubot H1. This particular device was special in the sense that it packed a massive 5200mAh battery on board, making sure that the phone lasted for more than a couple of days easily.

COUPON: H1WB PURCHASE PRICE: $139 Buy Cubot H1 from gearbest for $139

cubot-h1-01

Now, we have go hands on with the Cubot H1, and the initial impression is quite good. The built quality is decent, with a sturdy body and no loose parts. In fact, this was a factory model, so expect the final release to be even better.

The back features a glossy texture, but its not slippery as Xiaomi devices. The texture makes sure that you get good grip while holding the device. Moreover, it also helps to avoid any fingerprint marks on the back cover. Both the headphone jack and the MicroUSB port are on top of the device.

As for the specs, the phone comes with MT6735P 64-bit processor clocked at 1GHZ. There will be 2GB RAM on board along with 16GB of internal storage further expandable via MicroSD. While the display is just 720p on a 5.5-inch screen, it looked good. As for the camera, there’s a 13MP shooter at the back with single LED flash and an 8MP front facing camera. The phone supports dual SIM card with 4LTE connectivity. Supports bands include: 1/3/7/20. Finally, you get an IR port which lets you control a number of appliances at your home.

The phone’s battery is probably the major reason you would go with this device. The 5200mAh battery can also be used as a power bank to charge other devices. Moreover, it supports fast charging to make sure that you don’t have to spend too much time with the charger.

Overall, the Cubot H1 is a great device for anyone who needs a large battery phone. Since we have the handset with us right now, expect more hands on and review articles in the coming days.

Meizu’s new flagship to be called as the ‘Meizu Pro 5’ according to leaked photos

Earlier today, Meizu announced that it will be having a big conference at the Beijing National Convention Center on September 23. To make thing easier for us to guess, the teaser image came with the words, Meizu Go Pro. So, we knew that the new Meizu device was going to be called as the Pro. But now, thanks to the leaked images of the retail box, the actual name of the handset has been revealed.

wpid-wp-1441884601427.jpeg

While we expected some new name for the premium lineup, it looks like Meizu has decided to keep things simple by calling it the Meizu Pro 5. The leaked box clearly comes with the words ‘Pro 5’ on top, which gave away the name of the upcoming flagship handset. The overall design and packaging of the box is in line with Meizu’s invitation, as a result, its likely that the this is the real deal.

Its really surprising to see that the company would go with such a name. When Li Nan said that they were discontinuing the MX5 lineup, we expected something a lot different, in the name as well as feel. Meizu ME5 was the rumored name going around on the internet for the past few weeks, but it looks like Meizu Pro 5 will be the final name of the handset.

wpid-wp-1441884596467.jpeg

Another reason why the name could be real is because the original source who posted the pictures of the retail box deleted the weibo post immediately. But thanks to the active weibo users, we have those pictures right now.

Anyways, the Pro 5 launch is just a couple of weeks away. Given that we are receiving new information almost every day, we can expect to see a lot more about the Meizu Pro 5 flagship before the official launch.

Anyways, what do you think about the name Meizu Pro 5? Do you like it?

Attractive new Smart watch from Elephone

ele watch-2

Elephone have today sent over a render of their first foray in to the smart watch market and I would have to say that it is an attractive looking thing.

The new Smart watch from Elephone features a true round faced screen (as opposed to some that are square with the edges hidden behind the bezel and casings) that does not have the flat tyre effect that others like the Moto 360 have been blighted by.

From the limited information provided, Elephone say it will be highly cost-effective and feature exquisite workmanship and come with a heart rate sensor built in.

Style wise if the actual watch lives up to the renders, this certainly looks to be one of the most upmarket watches to come out of China.

What is as yet unknown is the internal specification of the watch, an educated guess would be a Mediatek Aster MT2502A SoC, however if they were to go with the newer MT2601 SoC then support for Android Wear would be possible.

With Google having recently announced their plan to return to mainland China as a provider of consumer Web services (all be it in a cut down manner), it would be a real coupe for a new Smart watch from Elephone if they could get the phone out with Android Wear at a decent price and specification.

Please leave comments and questions below.

HTC One A9 (Aero) With MT6797 deca-core chip hits Geekbench, beats Exynos 7420!

HTC is all set to announce two new flagships at its “The World Best Meets The Best” event on September 29. One of these devices will most likely be the HTC One A9 aka HTC Aero. The phone has been making the rounds on the internet for the past few weeks, boasting of high-end specs.

wpid-wp-1441865285048.jpeg

One of the highlights of the HTC One A9 is going to be the new deca-core Helio X20 MT6797 processor. The chip is said to be very powerful, with 10 cores in a tri-cluster design ready for any task. Now, the same chip powering the HTC One A9 has hit Geekbench, revealing its true power.

According to the Geekbench listing, the HTC One A9 with MT6797 scores an impressive 1835 in the single core test. That’s almost as much the dual-core NVIDIA Tegra K1 scores in the Nexus 9. In the multi-core test, the performance was even more impressive. Thanks to the 10 powerful cores, MT6797 managed to beat everyone including the Exynos 7420 with a mind-blowing score of 5884 points.

Clearly, this shows that Mediatek has created a powerhouse for flagships. The dual A72 cores and octa A53 cores makes sure that you get the maximum performance without sacrificing on the battery life. Moreover, Helio X20 comes with the new T8xx series graphics chip which outdoes PowerVR G6200 (in MT6795) in all respects.

Other specs include 4GB of RAM and Android 5.1 OS. We still don’t have much idea about the camera on the device, but it is said that the aperture will be large (f/1.9) and the sensor will be capable of taking pictures in RAW format. Also, the display is expected to be QHD.

Overall, the new HTC Aero is going to be a powerful device. If the Helio X20 is really this powerful, we might be looking at the new best smartphone chipset. Since the launch is on September 29, expect more details pretty soon.

Meizu to release a new Flagship on September 23

We have been receiving new information about the upcoming high-end Meizu device in the past couple of weeks. Meizu VP has officially confirmed the existence of a new high-end lineup and yesterday, CEO Bai revealed that all next generation Meizu phones will feature FHD 1080p resolution.

wpid-wp-1441860116862.jpeg

Now, the company has released a teaser for a new conference, “MEIZU GO PRO” which will be held on September 23 in Beijing. From the teaser, it looks like the company is trying to show that it will move ahead despite any challenges. The event will be held at the massive Beijing National Convention center, which means we can expect something big that day.

Well, “Meizu Go Pro” could be hinting at the new flagship device. While the company has confirmed that the MX5 Pro lineup has been scrapped, this could be an entirely new ‘Pro’ lineup. The specs are expected to be high-end to compete in the premium market.

We can expect to see Samsung’s Exynos 7420 chip under the hood with FHD 1080p display. There should be 3GB / 4GB RAM options with 32GB / 64GB of storage, 21MP rear camera and 5MP front facing camera according to the recent leaks. As for the software, the phone is said to run on Android 5.1 with the company’s Flyme UI on top.

As for the design, according to the renders shown off by the company VP Li Nan, Meizu is probably going with the same design scheme as the MX5. Since this is going to be a premium lineup, we can expect an all metal design on the device. As for the pricing, we have been repeatedly hearing the figure 3000 Yuan. So, expect it to be around the same price.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 Listed On GFXBench with Adreno 510

Late June, we spotted the Snapdragon 620 chipset on Geekbench. Despite being a mid-range chip, it managed to surprise everyone with its amazing performance, at least on paper. Now, the same Snapdragon 620 has just hit GFXBench, revealing more about its graphics performance.

wpid-wp-1441807477853.jpeg

Although the model name was unknown, the phone featured, S620, Adreno 510 GPU, 1080p resolution display, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM, 13MP cmaera and an 8MP front facing shooter.

From the GFXBench listing, we can see that the new Adreno 510 chip is much better than the year old Adreno 405. In the ofscreen Manhattan test, it reached 13 fps while in the T-Rex test, it managed to reach about 31.2 fps, which is quite good for a mid-ranger. However, according to the leaked images, the GPU is still behind the Adreno 430 flagship.

snap620

Qualcomm has already revealed some details about the Snapdragon 620 chipset. The chip will come with quad Cortex A72 power cores and quad Cortex A53 cores, which will strike the perfect balance between performance and efficiency. It comes with X8 LTE modem, Hexagon V56 DSP and supports 4K recording as well.

Unlike the Snapdragon 615, which wasn’t much powerful, the Snapdragon 620 is expected to take things to a whole new level in the mid-range market.

Unfortunately, Qualcomm has not yet announced when the first Snapdragon 620 powered smartphones will hit the market. So, we will have to wait for some more time to see its real life performance.

6GB RAM Phones Are Now Possible, Thanks To Samsung’s New DRAM chips

Apart from its smartphones, Samsung is known for its advanced DRAM chips. Earlier today, the company announced that it had started mass producing 12Gb LPDDR4 RAM chips using 20nm process. This is definitely good news for smartphone enthusiasts as the new chip will enable manufacturers to add up to 6GB RAM inside smartphones.

Samsung-smartphone-6GB-RAM

There’s a good chance that many of you are confused right now. We said that Samsung was manufacturing 12Gb LPDDR4 DRAM chips, yet we say that 6GB RAM smartphones are possible. This is because, here 12Gb is actually 12 Gigabits. Now, there are eight bits in a byte. So, the 12Gb DRAM is actually of 1.5GB each. Usually, smartphone manufacturers can add up to four DRAM modules on smartphone which makes it possible to add up to 6GB RAM (1.5GB x 4) inside.

The new 12Gb i.e. 1.5GB DRAM module is reportedly 30 faster and 20 percent more efficient than its previous generation 8Gb chips. FYI, these 8Gb Samsung modules are used by most 4GB RAM smartphones in the market today, including OnePlus 2, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note 4.

At the moment, even 4GB RAM seems to be more than enough for mobile devices. So, it will be interesting to see whether 6GB RAMs are actually required by future smartphones.

Samsung Lucky-LTE model with Exynos 8890 visits Geekbench, Beats Exynos 7420!

Now that we have seen both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Note 5 flagship models, Samsung’s smartphone department should be quite for the rest of the year. All the premium models launched this year by Samsung came with the powerful Exynos 7420, which blows off other competitors in terms of performance and efficiency. But it looks like, the company is already working on its successor, thanks a recent Geekbench listing.

exynos 8890

It looks like Exynos 8890 just paid a visit to Geekbench earlier today revealing the performance of the new chip. The chip was inside a model code named Lucky-LTE and it could be a new Samsung model in the works. What’s interesting is that the new Exynos 8890 chipset beats the already powerful Exynos 7420 in both the single-core and multi-core tests. It managed to score 1409 in single core and 4882 in multi-core tests. This is much higher than the average score of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, 1305 and 4382 in the respective tests.

exynoss Chipset-01

The listing reveals that the Exynos 8890 will be an ARMv8 octa-core chip under-clocked at 1.3GHz. During the testing, the Lucky-LTE model was running this new chip along with 4GB RAM and Android 5.1 OS.

So what could be this new Samsung Lucky LTE model running on the Exynos 8890 chip? Its still too early for a Samsung Galaxy S7, which leaves us wondering about this mystery device.

Meizu’s New Flagship Borrows Design From Apple? Renders & Front Panel Leaked!

Thanks to the confirmation from both Meizu VP Li Nan and CEO Bai Yongxiang, we know that the company is working on a new flagship high-end smartphone. However, given that it is going to be an entirely new lineup (replacing MX5 Pro series), we had no idea what to expect from the device in terms of design, at least till now.

wpid-wp-1441776293085.jpeg

However, VP Li Nan released a new render on his Weibo page earlier today, which shows off the design of the upcoming flagship smartphone to some extent. Interestingly, its not entirely original and looks a lot like the Apple’s iPhone series. In fact, Li Nan knows this and that’s why he released the pictures before the event later today.

wpid-wp-1441776286199.jpeg

Apple is expected to release at least two devices at today’s event in US. One of those devices will be the new iPhone 6S smartphone. And according to Li Nan, the appearance of both the devices could be similar. So, he released the renderings that the company is currently working on, even before the official release of the new iPhone to prevent any accusations about copying the design.

Well, to be honest, Meizu’s devices have looked a lot like Apple’s iPhone even in the past. Although this device does look like the iPhone 6, it can also be seen as a continuation to the MX5 series styling. Another interesting thing to see here is that the renders have the new MEIZU logo at the back. We can also see a dual LED flash just below the large round camera sensor.

wpid-wp-1441776296575.jpeg

Another image showing off the front panel and the chassis of the device was leaked today. And as you can see, the renders as well as the leaked chassis looks quite similar. So, this could be the final design of the upcoming flagship. You can also see the oval physical home button opening on the front panel which will most likely integrate fingerprint ID as well. The Meizu ME5 front panel is expected to be feature Sharp’s 5.5-inch display with 2.5D glass on top.

wpid-wp-1441776300273.jpeg

As for the specs, the phone is expected to come with the powerful Samsung Exynos 7420 chipset with 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage. The company confirmed yesterday that all upcoming Meizu devices are going to feature a maximum resolution of 1080p. So, we expect even the new NIUX code named flagship to feature 5.5-inch FHD display. At the back, there should be a 21MP sensor while up front, expect an 5MP shooter.

Since the company is eager to release information about the new handset, we expect a lot more information in the coming days.

Meizu X-Light Plus Smart LED Light Bulb Review

We wanted to say thank you to Gearbest.com for sending the Meizu X-Light Plus smart LED light bulb for a review!

Meizu X-Light Plus Smart LED Bulb Review: UNBOXING

IMG_2567IMG_2569
This LED bulb is called X-Light Plus and it is made by Meizu. It costs just over $20 and you can get it from Gearbest. I will leave a link in the description below this video.
The bulb comes in a neat packaging ant the contents include the bulb itself and the instruction manual.

Meizu X-Light Plus Smart LED Bulb Review: DESIGN

The X-Light Plus is very-well made and it spots metal and glass in its design.

Meizu X-Light Plus Smart LED Bulb Review: SETUP AND FEATURES

The very first thing you have to do to control this bulb via the Bluetooth is to download the X-light app either from the Google Play if you are using Android or the App Store if you are Apple user.
Once you’ve done that you have to turn on the Bluetooth on your device, go to the app and select the X-Light Plus bulb to connect. Keep in mind that the app will greet you in Chinese but once you click the back button, the whole UI of the app is in English.

Meizu X-Light Plus Smart LED Bulb Review: The App

The app is full of features. Some of them are useful but others may look a bit weird. For example, you can change the colour of the bulb by simply touching the bubbles.
Also, you can manually adjust the colour of the LED light. However, I found it to be the least responsive out of a huge variety of features.
In addition, you can adjust the warmth and the brightness of the Bulb.
However, these are just some boring features and the fun starts with some really weird stuff. For instance, you can change the colours of the LED by shooting stuff to the monkeys butt.
Also, the LED is supposed to do something if you roar. Well, I tried to do it but the LED just turned white.
If you go the the scene mode, you can actually select some pretty cool modes like different types of rainbows, which basically slowly change the colours of the LED automatically. Also, you can select from a variety of heart beat modes, choose alarm, flash or other modes and the LED bulb will light accordingly to these modes unless you stop it.
A really neat feature is that you can set a schedule for the Meizu X-Light Plus when it has to turn on or off, or you can use it as an alarm light.
Some other cool features include the ability to shake your phone to change the colour of the bulb. Also, the you can play the music via the app’s music player and the bulb will start blinking according to the rhythm of the music. Well, it’s not super accurate but it works. Keep in mind that the bulb doesn’t have the Bluetooth speaker.

Meizu X-Light Plus Smart LED Bulb Review: CONCLUSIONS

IMG_2578
The Meizu X-Light Plus is a very affordable smart LED bulb solution. It is well made and the application has a lot of features. Some of them are definitely useful but there are a lot of features, which are just weird and doesn’t really make sense. Also, there is quite a lot of Chinglish in the app but everything is understandable.
IMG_2593
The majority of features work well with this bulb but some of them are not that responsive as they should be. For example I’ve noticed a slight delay when I wanted to change colour of LED bulb manually. Also, the X-Light could have a little bit better Bluetooth range as I couldn’t control it from the other room, because I lost the connectivity.
IMG_2601
Other than that, the Meizu X-Light Plus is a good offering as it has tons of controls and features, and it retails for the price of just $20.

Meizu’s next generation phones to feature 1080p resolution screens

Remember Huawei’s CEO Yu Chengdong had said earlier this year that it didn’t make sense to include a 2K display on a flagship smartphone. Well, now Meizu’s CEO Bai Yongxiang, has revealed that he has the same opinion. He said via his official Weibo page that the company has finally decided to stick with FHD 1080p resolution on its next generation smartphones.

meizu ceo flagship display details

According to Bai, Meizu is interested in making products which satisfy customers. Its not just concerned about the specifications on paper. Moreover, he adds that even the best CPU in the market right now cannot handle 2K screen perfectly. So, the company decided to go with 1080p displays for its upcoming products.

Meizu logo new

We know that the company has abandoned the Meizu MX4 Pro lineup. It was the last smartphone from the company to feature such a high-resolution 2K display. Instead of MX5 Pro, the company is expected to unveil a brand new device lineup with the code name NIUX this year. After this statement from the co-founder, we are sure to expected the rumored ME5 flagship to feature a 1080p display.

According to the latest rumors, the ME5 flagship is expected feature Exynos 7420 chipset with 3GB / 4GB RAM versions. There will be a 21MP camera at the back, and a 5MP front facing shooter. The phone could be announced as early as this month, but we are not quite sure of that at the moment.

Anyways, do you think sticking with 1080p resolution for their flagship is a good idea? Samsung has multiple products featuring 2K display and Exynos 7420 chipset which has fared well in the market till now.

Xiaomi expected to be the first Chinese manufacturer to use Snapdragon 820

We know that Qualcomm is going to release its Snapdragon 820 chipset sometime later this year. While the company has been revealing more details about the chip every week, Qualcomm China president Mr. Meng revealed that at present there are about 30 different phones that are going to use Snapdragon 820 chipset. So, there will be a lot of smartphones that will hit the markets in the first half of 2016 with this powerful chip.

snapdragon-820-kryo-cpu

This year, many companies decided to go with the slightly slower Snapdragon 808 or Mediatek chipset for their flagship devices, to avoid any heating related issues. But before that, Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon range have always been the chip that powered flagships. If the Snapdragon 820 is as good as we have heard till now, there will be a lot of phones in the market with this new SoC soon. Mr. Meng’s comments itself proves this point.

pan jiutang snapdragon 820

Now, if this is the case, many manufacturers, from China as well as other countries will try to be the first ones to boast of using this chip. And according to Pan Jiutang, the IHS analyst, it will most likely be Xiaomi, atleast in China. The second possible candidate is Smartisan, but he is not sure of that at the moment.

xiaomi-logo

If Xiaomi is indeed going to release the first Snapdragon 820 powered smartphone, it should be for none other than its upcoming flagship Xiaomi Mi5. Its been more than a year since we saw the Mi4 flagship and some rumors claim that the company is waiting for the launch of the new Snapdragon 820 chipset. So it makes sense to put the best chip inside the new company flagship. And if Smartisan is joining the likes of Xiaomi, it should be for its new Smartisan T2 flagship.

Well, these are just speculations at this moment based on the information that’s available right now. But if Xiaomi Mi5 does come with Snapdragon 820, expect a launch only around November-December 2015.

Do you think Snapdragon 820 will help Qualcomm win back the trust of the customers in the high-end segment?

When it comes to the design of the phone, the first thing you are going to see is that it is quite a thick (9.6mm) device. That’s because of the monster battery size, which is 4400mAh and the device supports the quick charging feature. Keep in mind that the official description of the phone declares 4400mAh but the numbers on the battery itself are 4420mAh and 4600mAh. For this reason, I kept repeating the 4600mAh number in the video review.

Other than that, the Elephone P4000 is manageable with one hand due to a small 5″ screen.

On the front side we have a 2MP camera along with the earpiece and a sensor light and on the bottom there is a backlit home button, which also serves as a pulsing notification light but other capacitive keys don’t have a backlight.
IMG_2169
The back plate is made of glossy plastic and it feels quite cheap, to be honest. Also, it makes a few wobbling noises when pressed harder.
IMG_2170
The 13MP shooter along with the LED flash will help you take some pictures and the loudspeaker is located on the bottom.
IMG_2173
The volume rocker and the power button are on the right side, they have a good tactile feedback but feel a bit plasticky.

The top side is where you can find a headset jack and the bottom is where the micro USB and the main mic are located.
Overall, the design is uninspiring due to its plasticky build and the device looks and feels quite cheap.

Elephone P4000 Review: UI

The Elephone P4000 runs on Android 5.1 and you can enjoy almost stock Android experience with just a little bit of extra functionality. Usually, the UI is running smoothly but I’ve experienced a little bit of stutter with a lot of tasks running in the background but nothing major.

Elephone P4000 Review: BENCHMARKS

Elephone P4000 Review: PERFORMANCE

The device has a 64-bit MT6735 chip along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Gaming performance is quite good but you may see a few skipped frames and loading times are a bit longer than on higher-end devices.

A good thing is that the phone does’t heat up too much.

Elephone P4000 Review: MULTIMEDIA

The multimedia experience is just mediocre. While the screen is decent to watch full-HD movies on, the loudspeaker could be better as it could have more depth in its sound it starts crackling at the highest volume setting.
The sound via earphones is quite good but nothing to be impressed about.

Elephone P4000 Review: CAMERA

The Elephone P4000 has a stock Mediatek camera app, which allows you to play with a few settings and shooting modes. The shutter speed is just average, though.

Elephone P4000 Review: IMAGE QUALITY

The phone has a 13MP camera on the back but it actually disappoints in real life. It seems that the sensor is having a hard time focusing as a lot of pictures came out blurry with a low level of detail.
If you manage to hold your hand very steady, you may have some better looking images. However, they still lack in details, you can see a visible noise and the dynamic range is usually off.
The shots taken indoors are mediocre as well and the night shots do not impress as any other budget device.

Elephone P4000 Review: VIDEO QUALITY

The footage produced by this phone could definitely see some improvements as the video doesn’t have much details and sharpness (max. resolution of the video is 720p). See video review for the video sample.

Elephone P4000 Review: CONNECTIVITY

As far as connectivity options go, the call quality does not impress at all. The volume output is very low and the voices are simply not clear. It was hard to hear people on the other end while being in a bit more noisy environments.
On the other hand, I had no problems with the Wifi, Bluetooth and even GPS lock speeds as well as accuracy are good.

Elephone P4000 Review: BATTERY LIFE

Finally, we’ve come to the star of the show as the Elephone P4000 sports a non-removable 4600Ah battery, which lasts forever and it’s not easy to kill it in one day doesn’t matter what you do.
The standby times are very good as I’ve used the device for 6 days with more than 6 hours of screen-on time and there were still some juice left.
With a lighter use, you may even get 8 hours of screen-on time, which is really impressive for a budget phone.

Elephone P4000 Review: CONCLUSIONS

IMG_2153
Elephone P4000 is a device that has been made with one clear selling point – the amazing battery. After testing it out for more than a week I can assure that it delivers and this is the longest lasting budget smartphone, which costs just below $130, by the way, I’ve tested to date.
IMG_2169
Also, the Elephone P4000 has a decent 5” screen, good overall performance if you are not a heavy gamer, of course. In addition, the phone has a dual-SIM card slots and one of them even supports 4G. Also, you can easily expand the storage via the microSD card slot.
IMG_2181
However, Elephone needed to make quite a few compromises to make a phone this cheap. The camera does not impress at all, the loudspeaker could be better but most importantly the call quality is poor. Well, you can still make conversations but keep in mind that they would not be loud and clear via the earpiece.
Finally, the Elephone P4000 is a device for those, who want a very cheap phone with a killer battery life but accepts a few important compromises for the sake of the low price.

The Chinese company Ulephone is certainly unknown to you, and for good reason: no moving of the brand is marketed wordldwide. The company offers a range of products quite varied, ranging from entry to high end. And the Chinese manufacturer unveiled its latest smartphone, Ulefone Paris at the Eiffel Tower, by the end of August. As usual, the specifications have already leaked on the web, and we even have the right to release a photo showing us more detail mobile.

The phone have a 5-inch screen with full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 powered by a processor MT6753 octa-core 64-bit MediaTek. The radius of the memory, the Paris model will have 2 GB of RAM and a storage space of 16 GB, expandable thanks to its microSD slot up to 128GB. For the battery, the manufacturer has opted for a model 2250 mAh. Picture side, we find a back sensor 13 megapixels and a front sensor of 5 megapixels.

The design level, the mobile strangely resembles an iPhone 6, with a housing while aluminum. The volume knob is located on the right of the device, the jack is in turn located above the telephone. Ulephone also took over some characteristics of Meizu, the home button and the lack of menu and back button. Most of the online retailers listed the phone for around $169, but I found geekbuying is offering it for just $129.99, is it a big bargain for you?

OPPO R7 Lite Silently Announced with 2.5D Curved Glass & Snapdragon 615

OPPO is one of those Chinese companies who is known to come up with innovative smartphones. The company had released the OPPO R7 and R7 Plus back in May. Both the devices came with high-end hardware with an all metal design. Now, the company has silently released the OPPO R7 Lite, which is a toned down version of the R7.

The OPPO R7 Lite comes with the same metal body as the R7 and the R7 Plus, along with a 2.5D curved glass on top. Despite its mid-range placement, its good to see OPPO stick with the same all metal body on this device.

As for the specs, the R7 Lite sports the Snapdragon 615 octa-core chip under the hood. There will be 2GB of RAM on board along with 16GB of storage. The phone comes with a 5-inch display with 720p resolution. As for the camera, you have a 13MP shooter at the back, capable of taking 50MP high resolution images. Up front, there’s an 8MP shooter. The battery is a bit disappointing at 2320mAh. But the R7 Lite supports OPPO’s VOOC fast charge tech which can charge up to 75% in 30 minutes. For software, the phone runs on Android 5.1 with ColorOS 2.0 on top.

According to the Indonesian listing of the OPPO R7 Lite, the phone is priced at 4.99 million Indonesian Rupiah which roughly translates to $350. As you can see, despite the reduction in cost, the phone’s specs don’t justify its high price. You can anytime get better alternatives like Xiaomi Mi4 or OnePlus 2 which offers a lot more power for around the same price.

Lenovo Vibe X3 Hits TENAA, Design & Specs Revealed!

Thanks to a leak way back in February, most of the upcoming smartphones from Lenovo were already revealed. One by one, these smartphones are being announced by the company, with the Lenovo Vibe P1 bring the latest one. Now, it looks like the Lenovo Vibe X3, which we saw in a GFXBench listing early August is all set to hit the markets. The device has just passed the Chinese TENAA authority, making its launch imminent. This also reveals the overall design as well as specs of the device.wpid-wp-1441686216687.jpeg

Looks wise, the Lenovo Vibe X3 is similar to the recently announced ZTE Axon flagship. There are dual speakers up upfront, which makes it look like the ZTE device. However, the back is more or less like the recently announced Vibe devices. You will find a large camera sensor with dual LED color temperature flash and a fingerprint sensor as well.

As for the specs, the Lenovo Vibe X3 comes with Snapdragon 808 hexa-core chip under the hood. There will be a 5.5-inch display on board (unlike the previous rumors which hinted at a 5-inch one) with FHD 1080p resolution. For memory, you get 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage, further expandable via MicroSD.

The phone is pretty thick, measuring 154 x 76.4 x 9.4mm and weighs 175 grams. This could hint at a large battery on board, like the P1 (5,000mAh?). For camera, there will be a 21MP sensor at the back with dual LED flash and an 8MP front facing shooter.

Unfortunately, apart from the specs, we have no other information about the handset. But since it has already passed TENAA, we expect a lot more information in the coming days.

Elephone P9000 With Deca-Core Helio X20 Leaked In Pictures & Listed Online!

A few months back, we came to know that Elephone was working on a MT6797 Helio X20 powered Elephone P9000 flagship. The specialty of the device is going to be the chipset under the hood, which is the first deca-core smartphone SoC in the market. It is said that the chip’s Tri-Cluster design will improve battery life up to 40% as compared to rivals and offers better heat dissipation. From the specifications listed on the Elephone website, we can see that this is going to the be the most powerful smartphone from the company till date.

wpid-wp-1441629269495.jpeg

While there’s still time for the official launch of the Elephone P9000, the device was spotted in hands on pictures recently. A Portuguese website managed to get hold of a couple of pictures which shows us the overall design of the device. From the images, the device does look well built with a rough texture at the back. You will even find a round fingerprint sensor on the rear shell.

Apart from the powerful deca-core Helio X20, the Elephone P9000 is said to come with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage on board. The phone will feature a 5.5-inch FHD 1080p resolution display. At the back, there will be a 20.7MP Sony IMX230 sensor and an 8MP front facing camera. You will also find a 3100mAh battery on board. The phone runs on Android 5.1 out of the box.

As you can see, these specs are pretty high-end. While Elephone has listed the P9000 for $499 on the website, third party retailers have started listing the phone too. However, the price tag is much lower and only around $329.99. Still, that’s much higher than any of the products Elephone has released till date. So, it will be interesting to see whether customers are willing to pay a premium price for a premium handset like the Elephone P9000.

If you look at the leaked hands on pictures and the ones listed by the retailer Geekbuying, they are two different designs. We are not sure which one of these could turn out to be the real one, but we expect it to be the leaked hands on images which look quite premium. The phone is expected to be announced on October 20. But expect more details in the coming days.
