5.5mm Gionee Elife S7 with glass back and Android 5.0 leaked again

Gionee will most likely announce the Gionee Elife S7 smartphone at MWC 2015. However, before its official announcement, the device has been leaked a number of times on the internet. A recent image leak reveals some more details about the phone.

gionee-s7-leak-2

First of all, it confirms earlier rumors that the phone will be of 5.5-mm. So, it will be of the exact thickness as Gionee S5.5. So, it looks like the Ivvi K1 Mini with a 4.7mm body will retain the title of the thinnest smartphone.

According to the leaked pictures, the Gionee Elife S7 will feature a metal frame with dual glass design, both on the back as well as the front. This coupled with the 5.5mm thickness gives the device a very beautiful and appealing look.

gionee-s7-leak

Another interesting aspect of the device is its 13MP camera unit which blends well with the design. Unlike the iPhone camera, this one does not protrude which is quite impressive at its size. Also, there will be a 2700 mAh battery on board, so battery life shouldn’t be a big concern on this device unlike other super slim handsets.

As for software, a recent leak shows that the phone will run on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS out of the box. On top of this Android version, there will be the new Gionee Amigo 3.0 UI. The picture that we have added above confirms this news.

Full tech specs (expected) are given as below:

  • 5.2 inches 1080P resolution screen
  • Powered by MediaTek MT6752 eight-core 1.7GHz processor
Built-in 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM, SD card does not support extended memory
    Front 8,000,000 + rear 13 million-pixel camera
    Support China Unicom 4G networks
Android 5.0 Lollipop with Amigo 3.0 UI
    Available colors black, white, blue
    Dimensions 148.8 × 72.4 × 5.5 mm
    Weight 126.5 grams

It looks like finally a manufacturer has made a smartphone with a perfect blend of beautiful and slim design and powerful specs. Gionee is expected to announce the device at MWC this week, so lets wait for some official details and images.

Xiaomi could be looking at 100 billion Yuan in sales in 2015

Xiaomi-Logo

Yesterday, we reported that Xiaomi had no plans for an electric vehicle in the near future. Lei Jun had made that clear at the Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum Fifteenth Annual Meeting yesterday. During the same event, he also revealed some key stats about the company and gave us an idea as to what the company is planning for this year.

He revealed that Xiaomi manufactured 61.2 million smartphones in 2014 alone and generated about 74.3 billion Yuan in sales. The company’s sales figures have been growing pretty fast since 2012.

In 2012, Xiaomi’s sales were around 12.6 billion, in 2013 it rose to an impressive 32.6 billion and finally in 2014, the sales more than doubled to reach 74.3 billion Yuan. Naturally, with such high sales, the sales tax too is said to be around 100 million Yuan in a year.

With the current growth in sales and shipments, its very likely that Xiaomi will reach at least 100 billion Yuan in sales this year. Previous stats have shown that the figures have more than doubled and if it continues the same rate, the sales could be anywhere around 150 billion. Moreover, Xiaomi has confirmed that it has plans to expand into newer emerging markets such as Brazil and Russia, which will definitively boost shipments and sales. Also, the total shipments could go well over 80 million this year.

So, do you think Xaiomi will exceed the 150 billion Yuan mark in sales this year? Or will the company slow down after registering impressive growth in the past two years?

Mediatek Helio X10 octa-core SoC supports display refresh rate of 120Hz

MWC 2015 has already started and we have seen some great announcements at the event like HTC One M9, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. However, before the event started in Barcelona, Spain, Mediatek decided to take things to the next level by announcing its Mediatek Helio X10 high-end chipset at a closed door event.

mediatek helio x10

The Mediatek Helio X10 is the most advanced chipset from the company till date. This 64-bit octa-core Soc (2.2GHz) can support display refresh rates of 120Hz, which is double the rate used by current smartphone chips — 60Hz. At present, there are displays which can support this fast refresh rate, so its good to see that a chip can now facilitate this new tech.

With such super fast refresh rates, the overall user experience is taken to the next level. For example, scrolling through web pages will be a very smooth experience, without any visible motion blur. In fact, in the demo at the event, the videos shown were extremely sharp with zero motion blur, delivering a truly advanced viewing experience.

The new Helio X10 supports slow motion videos at an impressive 480 fps. This is twice the rate used by Apple’s iPhone 6 — 240fps, which means slo-mo videos will be much better using this chip. Further, this octa-core chip can take advantage of the cores in the GPU too during certain tasks, thanks to the company’s Core Pilot technology. Mediatek says that this will enhance the performance of the device to a great extent as well as reduce power consumption.

The company will also unveil a Mediatek Helio P series later in the year, where P stands for performance. However, it has not yet revealed the features or performance stats of this upcoming chipset line.

With this new chip range, Mediatek is looking to compete with current high end chips from rivals such as the Snapdragon 810 and the Exynos 7 series. Unfortunately, we still don’t have real performance details of the chip, so its best to wait and watch how good they are. Company says that the first line of the high-end Helio chip powered phones will be available by the end of the year. However, before that, we expect more information via leaks and other sources.

Xiaomi has no plans for an electric vehicle in the next 5 years, says Lei Jun

u_971572740_3630187765_fm_11_gp_0

Today, Lei Jun attended the fifteenth annual meeting of the China entrepreneurs Forum where he delivered a speech. In the speech, Lei Jun confirmed that Xiaomi has as of now no plans for the release of an electric vehicle. The company plans to focus on its existing products in the next three to five years.

The company has a number of products in the pipeline in different categories like smartphones, tablets, TV Boxes, Routers etc and many more smart home products. So, the company has kind of focused on the release of these existing products in the pipeline.

idc-china-smartphone

Xiaomi has managed to grow considerably in the past one year alone. IDC statistics show that this Chinese company managed to grow by over 186% year-on-year last year. So, Xiaomi’s market share in terms of shipments in China rose from a mere 5.3% to a massive 12.5% . This also makes Xiaomi the company with the largest number of shipments in 2015 in the domestic market.

The company has also expanded in the past one year to neighboring markets such as India and Malaysia. This has definitely helped it grow at a very fast rate. Now, in 2015, the company is planning to expand into other emerging markets such as Russia and Brazil. According to a report, it may even start manufacturing phones in India and Brazil.

So, at the moment, it looks like the company is busy with its existing products. But, we cannot entirely rule out a possibility of a Xiaomi Electric car after 3-5 years.

So what do you think? Should Xiaomi focus on its existing products right now or should it expand into newer areas like electric vehicles?

HTC One M9 cases spotted on OPPOMART

About a week back, we had reported that Samsung Galaxy S6 cases had made it to the Chinese retailer OPPOMART. Now, it looks like HTC One M9 cases too have been listed on the site just a day before the official launch.

There are around 9 different cases for the M9 listed online. Of course, since the device has not been officially announced all of those are still out of stock. But after tomorrow’s announcement, we expect more retailers to stock up such cases for the flagship device.

There are a number of cases as well as a tempered glass screen protector on the website. The cases range from simple, transparent TPU ones to rugged protective cases. There’s even a leather flip case listed.

Interestingly, we have not yet found any cases for its larger variant, the HTC One M9 Plus which is expected to be 5.5-inches. However, we may see cases for the device soon as the release date nears.

htc one m9 cases 3

There were a few pictures of the HTC One M9 on OPPOMART and it looks a lot like the recently leaked ones. As for the tech specs, the phone is said to come with the latest Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB / 64GB / 128GB storage options. The rear camera will be replaced by a traditional 20MP one and the 4MP ultrapixel cam will most likely end up as the front shooter for the device. There will be a 5-inch display up front with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. Finally, the phone is expected to run on Android 5.0 KitKat with Sense 7 UI and will probably come with a 2840 mAh battery.

Of course, these are the rumored specs of the device but we don’t have to wait too long for official news. Could Huawei be the next Nexus 7 maker?

Just yesterday we reported that Google is in talks with a Chinese manufacturer to release a Nexus device this year. The source revealed that a domestic manufacturer was all set to announce a Nexus phone later in 2015.

google-nexus-logo

Now, the same source from Weibo reveals that there will be two different Nexus devices this year. One will be made by the chosen Chinese company and the other will be made by LG. If this is the case, then its very likely that the one from the Chinese company could be the affordable variant of the phone. On the other hand, the LG made Nexus could be like this year’s Nexus 6, loaded with the best tech specs in the market but at a very high price. So, finally, Nexus fans may get two phone choices in 2015.

Another interesting point revealed by the source is the processor that will be used by the OEM inside the new Nexus device. The source said that it didn’t know whether the manufacturer would use its own SoC or go with a Qualcomm one on the next Nexus.

Buy Huawei smartphones from the best china online stores.

While it doesn’t reveal the name of the OEM, this gives us a very good idea as to which OEM could be the next Nexus maker. Huawei has its own Hisilcon Kirin processor lineup, which the company has been using in its phones for quite some time now. So, we believe, Huawei could be responsible for manufacturing one of the Nexus phones this year.

If this turns out to be true, it won’t really be surprising given that the company has proved its expertise in the field by releasing phones like the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and even the affordable Honor 6 Plus with dual cameras. So, if the next Nexus has to be powerful and good looking, Huawei could turn out to be a good option.

Anyways, remember that this not official news. Neither Google or any Chinese OEM has confirmed plans for a Nexus release this year, so make sure you take this news with a pinch of salt.

If Google is indeed considering a Chinese OEM, which one do you think would be perfect for making the next Nexus device?

Meizu reveal more details about its Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition

In the past few months, we came across several reports that said Meizu was planning to release an Ubuntu Edition of its Meizu Mx4 flagship smartphone. Finally, yesterday, the company released a teaser poster for the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition confirming the previous reports. The company revealed that it would showcase the device at MWC 2015 to be held in Barcelona, Spain.

meizu mx4 ubuntu MWC

Today, the company released further details about the phone. Meizu revealed that it would be present at MWC at Hall 8.1 – App Planet Stand 8.1G41. So, those who will be present at the event can check out the device at the above mentioned booth.

Yesterday, the company confirmed that there will be three different variants of the device namely Flyme OS, YunOS and Ubuntu OS. We have already seen the Flyme OS and Alibaba’s YunOS powered variants and now we can finally take a look at the new Ubuntu OS powered MX4.

Ubuntu is quite different than iOS or Android OS. It uses a concept called ‘Scopes’ for navigating through various features. So, instead of relying on apps for different functions, you can just swipe through different scopes to get to the required feature. Its pretty interesting, however, apart from the BQ Aquarius E4.5 Ubuntu Edition, there isn’t any Ubuntu powered phones available in the market at the moment.

meizu-mx4-ubuntu

Meizu had previously shown off the Ubuntu powered Meizu MX4, however the device didn’t receive much attention. So, it would be interesting to see whether fans like the new Ubuntu OS and are willing to go with this OS instead of the traditional Android powered Flyme Version.

Expect more details at MWC.

MT6796 64-bit SoC built on 20nm process could be unveiled later this year

Mediatek has been gaining some ground lately with many established manufacturers going with their low cost yet powerful processors. In fact, just a few hours back, we reported that the new Sony Xperia E4G will use Mediatek’s MT6732 quad-core SoC.

mediatek roadmap

A few weeks back, the product roadmap for Mediatek was leaked and in that image we saw an interesting processor which was going to be announced in Q4 2015. The image revealed that the SoC will be built on the advanced 20nm process and support LTE networks. Looks like the rumored processor could be the upgraded version of the MT6795, the upcoming MT6796.

It is said that the MT6796 will be an octa-core 64-bit processor which will support high speed 4G LTE Cat. 6 networks. This will allow download speeds up to 300 Mbps. Naturally, the processor will be targeted at the high end market.

The current MT6795 processor is built on a 28nm process and has just entered mass production. It is said that many domestic as well as international OEMs have decided to incorporate this high end processors in their devices, but we have not yet seen any major releases from these manufacturers.

However, since the SoC has entered mass production and a major tech event is just around the corner, we may see some MT6795 powered smartphones at MWC 2015. Back in January, we saw a variant of HTC One M9 in the benchmark tests using this new Mediatek SoC, and if its true, then we could see the device in action at the event in Barcelona.

Anyways, lets wait and watch whether we’ll see some Mediatek powered smartphones at MWC this year.

Sony Xperia E4G and E4G Dual to sport MT6732 quad-core SoC

A few weeks back, Sony officially unveiled its latest budget offering, the Xperia E4. While the device had decent specifications, it did not have 4G LTE connectivity which disappointed a lot of users. Now, it looks like the company has two more devices in this lineup, namely the Xperia E4G and the Xperia E4G Dual which adds more features to the earlier model.

E4g 1

Like the name suggests, the phone will bring high speed 4G LTE connectivity to the low end segment. However, that isn’t the only difference between the regular version and these models. The new Sony phones will be powered by a 64-bit MT6732 quad-core processor clocked at 1.5Ghz which will give it a better performance as compared to the earlier version. The Xperia E4 came with the old MT6582 quad-core processor.

There’s a 4.7-inch screen up front which is slightly smaller than the 5-inch 3G model but it features the same qHD 960 x 540 pixel resolution. There will be 1GB of RAM onboard with 8GB internal storage. At the back, there will be a 5MP front facing shooter, while up front, you will get a 2MP camera. The design remains more or less the same, so you get a scratch proof display, textured back panel and curved edges.

The 2300 mAh battery should be able to provide up to 12 hours of talktime and this can be further extended using Sony’s Ultra Stamina battery saving mode. Finally, the phone will run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS out of the box.

E4g

Sony will release the device in April this year for a price tag of 129 Euros which comes to around $144. That’s a decent price for a Sony device with such specs.

Anyways, do you like this entry level Xperia E4G? Or would you prefer the Redmi 2 over this?

Moto E 2015 spotted on Flipkart at Rs. 6999

Just yesterday, Motorola announced the second generation model of its best selling Moto E smartphone in US. At the time of the launch, the company stated that it would soon be available in over 40 countries in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America. While it did announce details about the phone’s release in US, the company revealed very little about its plans for other countries.

Now, it looks like, we have some more details about the India launch of Moto E 2015.  A new poster on Flipkart, which is the country’s most popular e-commerce website as well as the exclusive seller of Motorola phones, reveals that the phone will be available for sale in India for Rs. 6999.

In case you are wondering, this is for the 3G model which will be made available worldwide. There’s a 4G model as well, but it will be limited to US, at least for the moment.

The Moto E 2015 comes with a Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2Ghz with 1GB RAM on board. The screen size has been aptly increased from 4.3-inches to 4.5-inch in the new model. However, the resolution remains the same at 960 x 540 pixels. The internal storage has now been increased to 8GB and the dual SIM card and MicroSD slots have been shifted to the side. One of the biggest selling points of the device is its Android 5.0 Lollipop OS out of the box, which will definitely set it apart from other low end offerings.

The current Moto E sells at Rs. 5999, so the new model is only a slightly costlier. Given the upgrades, the phone looks like a good deal at the given price. No details of the release date of the device have been revealed, but expect more information soon.

Rumors: Next Google Nexus 7 phone could be from a Chinese manufacturer

Things have changed drastically for Chinese smartphone companies in the past few years. They have evolved to manufacture products that are in line with the international companies. As a result, we have seen companies like Xiaomi, Huawei and even OnePlus grow pretty quickly.

The latest Nexus smartphone was from the former Google company, Motorola. Even the Nexus 9 tablet was manufactured by HTC, taking over the reins from ASUS, who manufactured the older Nexus 7 model. Now, it looks like Google could go with a new company again, this time a Chinese manufacturer for its next Nexus.

chinese OEM Nexus

The news comes via Weibo which states that Google has gone with a Chinese phone maker for the release of a new Nexus device for the second half of this year. While the source fails to reveal the name of the company, we do have a few guesses, given that right now there are many good Chinese companies in the market.

Lenovo, Xiaomi, Huawei and even ZTE could be the next OEM to partner with Google. Lenovo’s recent acquisition of Motorola gives it an edge and hence, there’s a very good chance that the source is hinting at this company. However, without Motorola, Lenovo has very little expertise in the smartphone segment and its smartphones aren’t as popular as the ones from Xiaomi or even Huawei.

Anyways, if this is indeed true, then we will definitely hear more about the company in the coming months. The source slates a announcement in the second half of the year, which means there’s still plenty of time.

However, till that time, unless we hear an official announcement from the company or its officials, we can’t really confirm the news. We will be keeping a close eye on Weibo for any further updates.
