Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G LTE Sold Out Within the First 35 Seconds of Release!

They say that any press is good press, and it has certainly rung true; particularly for the quickly escalating Xiaomi company; a popular Chinese-based smartphone producer recently alleged to have infringed upon a Singapore customer’s personal data disclosure rights. These stories revolving around privacy issues may or may not be well founded; however there is no doubt about the Xiaomi brand’s increasingly fantastic reputation for providing excellent phone service at a very reasonable cost. Xiaomi leapt ahead of Samsung in the competition to provide the number one smartphone in China in mid-2014, and the company shows signs of continuing on their path of success. The latest and greatest Xiaomi device to hit the market is of course the Redmi Note 4G LTE model; of which 100,000 were sold within the first 35 seconds of release!

This phablet; or phonelet; has been available for some time now, but this certainly hasn’t decreased its’ popularity. Xiaomi is rumored to be on the verge of a brand new and exciting release according to sources. The Xiaomi 4G LTE model is rumored to make its’ first appearance within the next few weeks. The 4G Redmi Note LTE has some really great specs for those looking for a device on a budget. It is equipped with a 3200mAh battery, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor that clocks 1.6 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. With a microSD card, you can add an additional 64 GB of storage. The Redmi Note HD display screen is 5.5 inches; with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The phablet’s camera is pretty standard; with 13MP, autofocus and LED flash. There is however an additional 5MP front-facing cameras for those who wish to video chat or take pics with their friends. The price is pretty fantastic, at roughly $162.

Unfortunately for the US, the chances of the Redmi Note 4G LTE model ever making it overseas in the immediate future are slim to none. The phone’s 4G capabilities only apply in China and India for the time being. Xiaomi is however working towards the eventual goal of emerging in the US market; estimated to occur sometime in 2015. They are methodically establishing their reputation within their own nation; as well as other low to mid-range markets before tackling the US market; which seems to be a well-functioning plan thus far.

GIVE AWAY—Android Virtual Reality Headset: DIY or Purchase Google Cardboard for Only $7.99

8

Are you, like many virtual reality enthusiasts tired of waiting for the price of the popular Oculus Rift to drop to something more reasonable; more affordable? If you find yourself without a lot of spare cash (as many of us are right now) but you still really want to experience your Android with a virtual reality headset; you’ve definitely come to the right place. While most of the existing models of virtual reality headset available on the market today are rather expensive, Google has recently provided consumers with an incredible and affordable new option called Google Cardboard. Android has provided this app to allow any Android user to transform their smartphone in to a virtual reality headset.

How, you may ask? You have two options. You can purchase the pre-constructed Google Cardboard headset for only $7.99 with this $2 coupon code: V2K8S. Or, if you are more of a do it yourself project oriented individual, you can assemble your own virtual reality headset with just a few supplies; cardboard, lenses, magnets and Velcro (See the pics below for how to construct your own).

So what are you waiting for? Go hit your local hardware store to pick up some corrugated cardboard (recommended by Google). Follow the directions, and construct your headset. Then hop on your Android and visit the Google Play Store to download this cool new app and prepare for your own virtual reality adventure!

The tutorial on the Cardboard site is very quick and easy to follow. They give you step by step instructions on how to assemble your chosen piece of cardboard; which the average person should be able to complete in less than a minute. After it is constructed, you place your Android phone along the back panel, strap it into the Velcro holder and voila you are in virtual reality!

When you first place the Google Cardboard headset on, you will be presented with a horizontal arrangement of apps to choose from. Scrolling is as simple as turning your head! The washer along the side of the headset is used to click on your selections. It’s really a neat concept over all, and can be used for many different sites; including but not limited to; Google Street Viewer and YouTube. Those were the first two things that I thought to check out when I finished putting my Google Cardboard headset together. Both ran very smoothly; with a panoramic view that didn’t have any obvious lag. The Android’s every impressive gyroscope comes in handy once again; making the visual transition as you turn your head very smooth and functional.

After trying it out myself, I am confident in saying that this is a great new tech toy for any of you gamers and fellow geeks out there looking for an affordable virtual reality experience on their phone. Obviously the higher resolution that your Android has, the better the experience will be. I was really impressed, and definitely recommend making or buying one for yourself. You can purchase a pre-constructed model for only $7.99 with $2 coupon code: V2K8S at http://www.tabletland.com/neje-zb02-diy-google-cardboard-mobile-phone-resin-lens-virtual-reality-3d-glasses-for-iphone-android-brown.html.

Bong is confident amid competition by cheaper wristbands by Xiaomi

bong2-141014_copy1

Despite the fact that the Xiaomi has also launched wristband similar to Bong’s wristbands, the wristband manufacturer Bong is confident that its products will fare well in the market.

The founder of Bong, Gu Dayu recently said that the company has made the first ever smart wristbands that can monitor the exercise and sleeping behavior of the wearers. It has the longest battery life than the available similar products in the market.

Gu further said the Xiaomi offered wristbands have the same specs as the Bong’s, which clearly demonstrate Bong’s contribution to the market. Bong’s wristbands are available at 699 yuan or US$114. Whereas the Xiaomi’s wristbands are priced at only 79 yuans or US$12.80.

Why there is so much price difference between the Xiaomi and Bong’s wristbands? the answer lies in the fact that the Xiaomi’s wristbands are extension of its mobile phones whereas the Bong’s wristbands are their main business.

For competing with the Xiaomi’s wristband launch, the Bong introduced their new version of wristbands which are pirced at just 99 yuans or US$ 16.10. The new version has improved performance and experience of wearers in addition to extended battery life.

The new version will help the wearer to know if they spend more time sitting or not doing any physical activity.

Gu said, that Bong’s wristbands are not geared towards health care, because we don’t want to annoy users with negative health alerts which may cause inconvenience to the users.

The truth about Xiaomi and Antutu

Although a lot of companies use the Antutu benchmark test, many in the industry have doubts about the way it tests the companies’ devices, and they have good reason to. It turns out that one of the legal representatives and executive directors of Antutu is the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun. Before starting Xiaomi, Lei Jun was a high-profile investor in China and invested in many companies like the video review team, Zealer. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kingsoft which, last year, invested money in Antutu.

There is nothing unusual about this but according to Antutu’s entry in http://qyxy.baic.gov.cn/, not only does Lei Jun serve as a legal representative of Antutu but also as an executive director. Is it surprising that Xiaomi’s phones always seem to get very high scores in Antutu’s benchmark test?ori_5370735f9c485

Huawei vs. Xiaomi, ZTE loses

20131217053908808

Huawei is a big enterprise with access to powerful technology while Xiaomi is better at marketing with a long and amazing background. Both are successful companies that have received lots of praise unlike ZTE, Coolpad, and Lenovo. The problem with ZTE is that it does not know how to market their products while Coolpad only makes low-end products and Lenovo is full of itself. Huawei’s strength lies in their ability to make great designs and strong processors, while Xiaomi’s lies in their ability to surprise everyone and have people flocking to them. Huawei uses sophisticated technology and produces devices with good craftsmanship, while Xiaomi only knows how to advertise to consumers. Their products are not actually built well. They also control the Antutu benchmark sites and the tech news media which they use to publish reports that are biased towards their products. If there is a Chinese brand that can conquer the international market, it’s Huawei.

Google enlists Motorola to work on Nexus 6, parameters revealed

A few days ago, an entry for a new smartphone called the “Motorola Shamu” appeared on the website, GFXBench. It is important to note that “Nexus 6” is put in parenthesis next to it. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G options a Qualcomm MSM8928 flower four hundred with a quad-core 1.6G Hz computer hardware and 2GB of RAM, rather than the 1.7G Hz octa-core MediaTek MTK6592 SoC of the 3G-only variant. Xiaomi gives tough fight to Samsung and Motorola

India- Xiaomi Mi3 sale, the first smartphone by the manufacturer, seems to be few in numbers as the statistics suggest, in a month, but its impact could be felt.

Xiaomi has become centre of interest for everyone in India, although not all can pronounce the name properly. But the fact is that smartphone has made an impact on the Indian market. Few days ago, Motorola announced to cut INR 2,000 or US$ 32 on its Android phone, the Moto G. Even the cut is applicable to limited numbers of sets but it is the first decrease since its launch few months ago. Motorola was bought by Lenovo from Google. Motorola recently announced that it has sold around one million handsets in India through Flipkart, the Motorola’s online retail partner. Seeing the huge smartphone market of India the numbers seems to be small but selling one million sets in less than year is an important figure. The Motorola in India has to offer only 3 phones but despite this it has become fourth largest manufacturer in India.

The reduction in price by Motorola shows that even giant like Motorola is threatened by the entry of new Chinese Company Xiaomi. Although Moto G and Xiaomi Mi3 are available in INR 10,000-14,000 or US$160-230, this range seems to be attractive for budget smartphone users. In Indian market, the number of features of mobile phones seem to  hold more importance than abstract qualities e.g., build quality, software etc. The Moto G bank on these abstract qualities, thus giving feature rich Xiamoi Mi3.  Not only Motorola is affected by the competition, the market leader like Samsung is also feeling the impulse. Samsung recently launched three versions of budget phones which are under price range of INR 8,000 or US$ 130. The specifications of these budget phones may not hamper the budget phones of Motorola and Xiaomi Mi3 in terms of specification but it clearly shows that Samsung would not give the share of budget phone market that easily. In addition, the pricing strategy of Xiaomi may force other market players to readjust the prices of mid-range and high-end phones, also.

The Xiaomi Global Vice President, Hugo Barra, clarifies privacy concerns, explaining how Mi Cloud uses User Data

The fastly growing Chinese Company Xiaomi will make the cloud messaging service an opt-in service instead of automatic one. This step was taken after concerns were raised about security and privacy. The MIUI Cloud Messaging is similar to the Apple iMessage service. The service takes the messaging data through internet which makes it free. The data travels to the MIUI servers. It was revealed that the user data is shared with the servers in China. The user data that is shared with the servers include the phone contacts, phone numbers, IMEI numbers and SMS messages. The sharing of this critical data raised concerns about the privacy and security of user data. The situation worsened as the users don’t have opt-out option. The situation seems to change after these developments.

Recently, the Global Vice President of Xiaomi, Hugo Barra addressed to the rumors and conspiracies about data sharing. Xiaomi has given option to the users to opt out the service. Hugo Barra said the MIUI Cloud Messaging service doesn’t store any information about customers’ phone or social graph. He added that the data is encrypted and it is kept only for the time the message is delivered to the receiver.  Facebook Status of Barra stated that it is the company’s foremost priority to keep the user data safe and secure. The company doesn’t store private information without users permission.

Before this, the MIUI Cloud Messaging service was activated automatically for all Xiomi users, the moment they would insert the SIM in their Xiaomi phones. After the privacy concerns the service has been made optional to protect the user data. The update will be implemented from today. The update will incorporate the security layer that will encrypt the phone numbers when they will be transferred to the Cloud Messaging servers.
