After such a long wait, the Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi is rolling out the stable MIUI 10 update to Redmi 6, 6A, Redmi 5 Plus global version and the Redmi Note 5 in India. The update is currently not available via the OTA (Over-the-Air), although, users can download OTA update.zip file from the official Xiaomi website to manually upgrade the device.

Xiaomi posted the official confirmation about the update via its official @miuirom Twitter handle. It also mentioned about the Redmi 5 Plus and Redmi Note 5 devices which have already received the MIUI 10 Stable ROM update a few days ago. Today, the owners of the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro received the latest MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM.

Many changes are present in the latest MIUI 10 along with the new User Interface. It brings AI portrait mode to the single front camera with the Hindi language support in Mi Apps. Xiaomi has added some new natural sounds to the MIUI 10 with a significant revamp for the Clock and Notes app. Here’s a full changelog if the MIUI 10 update:

Users of the Xiaomi Redmi 6, 6A, Redmi 5 and Redmi Note 5 can download the respective update packages from Xiaomi Website.

Update: The OTA update for Redmi 6 and 6A has also started to roll out, it weighs over 256MB in size for Redmi 6 in India.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus (or Redmi Note 5 for those who live in India) was released in December last year. When it launched, it came with Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. Eight months later, Xiaomi has started rolling out a new update that brings Android 8.1 Oreo to the device.

The update comes exactly two months after the Redmi Note 5 Pro also received its own stable update. Apart from Android 8.1 Oreo features such as picture-in-picture mode and new emojis, the update also brings Face Unlock to the device and camera improvements. There is also an image search feature, a smart assistant, and performance enhancements.

The update is rolling out slowly, so if you have not yet received it, you should be patient. However, there is a link already available to download the recovery ROM if you don’t want to wait for the OTA. It is over 1GB in size.

Once you are done downloading, move the file to the root folder of the internal storage of your device. Open the Updater app and tap the three dots at the corner, select “choose update package” and select the downloaded file. Follow the instructions on the screen.

The Redmi 5 Plus has a 5.99-inch FHD+ screen. It is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB/4Gb of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage. A single 12MP camera sits on the back of the device while a 5MP sensor with its own LED flash is positioned above the display.

There is a 4000mAh battery under the hood. It also has a hybrid SIM slot (dual SIM or SIM + MicroSD card), a 3.5mm audio jack, an IR blaster, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

On May 31, Xiaomi had announced the all new MIUI 10 ROM. At the beginning of June, it had rolled out the Developer ROM closed beta in China for first batch of devices and the same devices had received public beta by the end of the month. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has released the developer ROM closed beta to the second batch of devices.

The first batch of devices that were treated with MIUI 10 Developer ROM included Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Mi 6, Mi MIX 2S, Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Redmi S2 and Redmi Note 5. Since the registrations for the Developer ROM closed beta ended yesterday in China, the company has made it available to the second batch of Xiaomi phones starting from today. After the closed beta testing comes to an end, the public beta is likely to arrive for the same second batch of devices by the end of this month.

The second batch of 17 Xiaomi phones that are now receiving the MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta are Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5S, Mi 5X, Mi 5C, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 5A, Note 5A Prime, Redmi Note 4X (Snapdragon variant), Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5, Redmi 5A and Redmi 4X.

The company has stated that the arrival of the public beta of Mi 5X will be delayed. The specific release time for the smartphone will be announced through its social media channels. By this, Xiaomi is bringing the latest MIUI 10 to a total of 27 smartphones.

The MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta can be installed in two ways. Devices on MIUI 6, 7, 8 and 9 developer version can navigate to System Settings > My Device > MIUI version and then access the direct OTA update. It is recommended to back up devices on MIUI 6, 7, 8 and 9 stable versions are recommended ad then install the upgrade via fastboot with unlocked bootloader.

The Redmi 5 has been officially unveiled in India. However, India isn’t the only country that got a new Xiaomi phone today. Xiaomi also launched the Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 5A, and Redmi Note 5A Prime in Mexico.

Redmi 5 Plus

The Redmi 5 Plus is actually the same phone known as the Redmi Note 5 in India. It has a 5.99” 18:9 display with a 2160 x 1080 resolution and is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor. The version released in Mexico is the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM variant.

There is a 12MP 1.25um camera on the rear and a 5MP front facing camera with selfie light. It has dual SIM slots, a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 4,000mAh battery.

The Redmi 5 Plus will sell for MXN4,599 (~$247) and will come with an ultra-slim case. It will be available at Telcel starting next week.

Redmi Note 5A and Redmi Note 5A Prime

The Redmi Note 5A is more of a lower-level mid-range phone. It has a 5.5” HD display covered with Gorilla Glass, a Snapdragon 425 processor, and 2GB of RAM. It also comes with 16GB of expandable storage.

A 13MP f/2.2 camera with PDAF sits on its rear and in front is a 5MP f/2.0 camera. There is Bluetooth 4.2, an audio jack, IR sensor, and support for LTE bands 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 38, and 40. A 3080mAh battery powers it.

The Redmi Note 5A Prime has the same display but a Snapdragon 435 processor. It also comes with a 16MP front camera with flash but the same rear camera. Unlike the Note 5A, the Prime version has a fingerprint scanner mounted on its rear. Battery capacity is the same at 3080mAh.

Xiaomi has put a MXN3,499 (~$188) price tag on the Redmi Note 5A. The Redmi Note 5A Prime will be sold on Amazon Mexico at MXN4298 (~$231) but for an undisclosed limited time buyers will be able to purchase it for MXN2999 (~$161) starting tomorrow. Both phones will be available in Gray and Gold.

In February, Xiaomi had launched the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro full screen design smartphones in India. Today, it has announced the Redmi 5 phone which also sports a full screen design along with a cheaper price tag.  In December 2017, Xiaomi had introduced the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in China. The Redmi 5 Plus had debuted as Redmi Note 5 in the Indian market while the Redmi 5 has arrived today with the same moniker in the country.

The Redmi 5 is dubbed as “Compact Powerhouse” in India since it comes with enhanced design, display and specs over the predecessor phone. The handset will be exclusively available for purchase on Amazon India starting from next week.

Redmi 5 Specifications and Features

The Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch display that supports HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. It is driven by modest Snapdragon 450 SoC. To control the internal temperature, the device includes two layers of pyrolytic sheet. Its 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB storage models respectively feature 2 GB, 3 GB and 4 GB of RAM. It also features a microSD card slot for additional storage.

The Redmi 5 comes loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat that skinned with MIUI 9. Like the Redmi Note 5 phones, the Redmi 5 will be also provided with full screen gestures function in the near future. It has a rear camera of 12-megapixel that has a pixel size of 1.25micron. The handset is capable of snapping impressive shots in low-light conditions.

It is equipped with features like LED flash and PDAF. Its selfie camera of 5-megapixel is also accompanied by soft-light flash. For snapping enhanced selfie shots, it comes with Beautify 3.0.  The handset receives power from 3,300mAh battery that delivers an impressive standby time of 17 hours.

The Redmi 5 has a full metallic body that measures 151.8 x 72.8 and it weighs 157 grams. Since it has a thickness of only 7.7 mm, it is the slimmest ever Redmi phone. It comes in four color options such as Lake Blue, Gold, Black and Rose Gold. To safeguard the display of the phone, Xiaomi has reinforced the corners of the phone. For added protection, Redmi 5 comes with a free ultra-slim case.

Redmi 5 Pricing and Availability

The 16 GB storage + 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage + 3 GB RAM and 64 GB + 4 GB RAM variants of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 respectively cost Rs. 7,999, Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 10,999. The handset will be exclusively available for buying through Amazon India from March 20. It will be also available through Mi.com, Mi Store app, Mi Home stores and all the other partnered offline stores.

Redmi 5 buyers can avail an instant cashback of Rs. 2,200 on Reliance Jio along with 100 GB of data. SBI credit card owners can avail an additional cashback of 5 percent. Also, Redmi 5 buyers will be provided a massive discount of 90 percent on Kindle ebooks.

If you satisfy the above condition then the rest are as follows:

• Running the latest MIUI Global Developer ROM
• Have the QQ app for communication
• Speak (write) English
• Know about ROMs
• Active on the forum

The recruitment is open to users from all regions and application closes 11:59 pm (Beijing Time) on March 1. To apply, download the MIUI forum app from the Play Store and select “recruitment” on the homepage. Fill out the form and submit. Users will be sent a Forum PM to know if they have been selected.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus have started arriving in other markets outside China, and first stop is Spain. The launch date correlates with that revealed by Roland Quandt back in January.

Both phones are now listed on the Spanish Xiaomi website.

For the Redmi 5, Xiaomi is offering it in just two variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM and 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM. It appears the 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM variant will remain a China exclusive.

The Redmi 5 is not yet on sale as it is still listed as coming soon but pricing will start at €129 (~¥1009).

The Redmi 5 Plus on the other hand is available in 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variants. Like the Redmi 5, it has support for LTE Bands 1, 3, 5, 40, and 41. Pricing starts at €179 (~¥1400).

There is still no news as to when both phones will be available for purchase.

Xiaomi is heavily pegged to launch the Redmi Note 5 on Feb. 14 as its first smartphone in India this year. Whether it is an entirely new device or a rebranded Redmi 5 or Redmi 5 Plus will be known on Wednesday. An alleged render of the Redmi Note 5 has appeared today that suggests it could be a different device from Redmi 5 and 5 Plus.

The below render shows that the Redmi Note 5 will be coming with an elongated display that may offer an aspect ratio of 18:9. The upper and lower bezels are also slim compared to predecessor models.

The back panel of the phone features dual rear cameras aligned vertically. Below it is the LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. The upper and lower antenna lines are also very visible. The left side of the phone seems to feature the volume rocker and power key.

The Redmi Note 5 is expected to feature a Full HD+ resolution screen of 5.99 inches. The Snapdragon 636 or 630 chipset is speculated to power the handset. The SoC is speculated to be supported by 4 GB of RAM. It may arrive in two inbuilt storage choices of 32 GB and 64 GB.

A dual camera setup featuring a 16-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor is expected to reside on the rear of the phone. It may feature an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. It may include a huge battery of 4,100mAh capacity and it may come pre-installed with MIUI 9 flavored Android Nougat.

Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be launching a new smartphone on Feb. 14. By scouring through the page code of the official event page on Mi.com, it has been found that the company is most likely to launch the Redmi Note 5 next week on Wednesday.

It has been also found that a Javascript code that manages the countdown timer for the upcoming smartphone on the Mi.com has a subdirectory titled as “redminote5.” Last year, Xiaomi had teamed up with Indian cricket all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to launch the Redmi Note 4. The meta description of the event page contains multiple instances of the word “all rounder” word. It is likely that Xiaomi may advertise the Redmi Note 5 as an all-rounder smartphone.

These evidences suggest that the Redmi Note 5 could be the first Xiaomi phone that India will be receiving this year. As rumors have claimed, it could be a rebranded version of Redmi 5 or Redmi 5 Plus.

However, a newer report has claimed that since Redmi Note 4 met huge popularity in India, the company may launch the Redmi 5 Plus as Redmi Note 5 in India. This seems to be possible because the Redmi Y1 Lite and Redmi Y1 that are available in India were respectively launched as Redmi Note 5A and Note 5A Prime in China.

The launch teaser of the first 2018 device for India does not clearly mention whether the company will be launching Redmi 5 Plus or Redmi Note 5 smartphone on Feb. 14. There is a possibility that the company may launch Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones respectively as Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Prime.

Meizu and Xiaomi has always been close rivals. I agree that Xiaomi has managed to grow into a much bigger company as compared to its early rival, but that still doesn’t change the fact its smartphones in the budget and the mid-range segments have always got a tough competition from Meizu.

This year, it’s no different, with the Meizu M6s taking on the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in the sub 1000 Yuan (<$160) market. We know that both the phones are pretty solid contenders in the price segment, offering great value for money. But there’s always one thing that buyers want to know: Which smartphone has a better camera? This is exactly what we try to answer in this Meizu M6S vs Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus camera comparison. We have taken similar samples from both the phones so that its easy to compare which model has captured the best sample in that particular situation.

So, without wasting any more time, let’s directly move on to the Meizu M6S vs Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus camera shootout!

On first glance, the Redmi 5 Plus seems to take better images. The major reason for this is because of its saturated photos. Colors pop out nicely in the Redmi 5 Plus samples which makes the images stand out, better than the Meizu M6S. However, there’s a catch — color accuracy. Colors on the samples are highly inaccurate. For example, red looks like its pink and then there are other cases too where colors look much different than in real life. It’s quite evident because the Meizu M6S’ samples are much more color accurate. It looks a bit dull, but the color shades are very close to what you see in real life. Also, in general, the images from the Redmi 5 Plus look a bit whitish.

However, if you don’t mind the issue with its color inaccuracy, the R5P samples look better with its vibrant colors.

As for the details, Meizu M6S seem to have better details in most samples. In some cases, the difference is quite significant, while in some others, it may not be as evident. But in general, the M6S seems to take photos with better detail.

Both are quick to focus and shoot. So, no real issues in this department. As for the dynamic range, it’s slightly better on the R5P. As I had pointed out in the first samples that we saw from the Meizu M6S, the phone does struggle a bit in dynamic range. However, the difference is not as significant as I original thought. For example, check out the pictures of the building in the gallery.

Both phones are decent in low light photography. There’s nothing extraordinary about their performance and even in the comparison,  you may find it hard to pick which one’s better. This is because the M6S seems to take higher details in some low light images, but the R5P captures brighter photos. So, the M6S’ night time samples could look a bit dull. However, it’s worth mentioning that the Meizu M6S does really well in the night time picture of the parking lot with mountains and buildings in the background. The M6S has higher details and overall, the sample looks better balanced than what we got from the R5P.

One major drawback of the Meizu M6S’ photos were its huge size. Samples are anywhere between 10-15MB in size, which is very big as compared to the average 5MB file size of the Redmi 5 Plus samples.

Xiaomi’s latest devices – the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus have made their way out of China to neighboring country, Taiwan. This is the first market outside China to sell both phones.

The Redmi 5 launched in Taiwan is the 3GB RAM + 32GB variant and is priced at NT$3,999 (~¥870/$138). On the other hand, the larger Redmi 5 Plus that will be available in Taiwan is the high-end 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM model. It is priced at NT$5,999 (~¥1305/$207).

Sales will commence at 12 noon on January 30. Interested buyers will be able to purchase a unit on the official Mi website, Mi Home stores, and PCHome stores. All color variants will be available for both phones on the Mi store.

On February 1, Taiwanese carriers Chungwa Telecom, Far EasTern, and Taiwan Star will begin selling the Redmi 5 while the Redmi 5 Plus will be exclusive to Far EasTern.

The Redmi Note 4 that had launched in January last year is one of the bestselling phones from the company. Hence, Xiaomi fans in India are eagerly waiting for the arrival of Redmi Note 5. However, the company is unusually silent at the start of this year. The tweet from Jeff is just an indication that a new device possibly arriving in February. He could be hinting the launch of Redmi 5 Plus in India or the global unveiling of Xiaomi Mi 7 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 event that will be held at the end of next month.

The Redmi Note brand is highly popular in India. In just 45 days after the launch of Redmi Note 4 in India, the company was able to reach 1 million sales. It managed to sell 5 units of Note 4 in the country. Hence, it is speculated that Xiaomi may launch the Redmi Note 5 in India in the coming month. Xiaomi has already launched some devices with different names in India. For instance, the Redmi Note 5A and Note 5A Prime have respectively arrived in India as Redmi Y1 Lite and Redmi Y1. Hence, there is a possibility that Redmi Note 5 that is speculated to debut in the next month could be the rebranded Redmi 5 Plus.

Earlier today, Meizu unveiled its first full screen design smartphone – the Meizu M6S. It is one of the major rivals for the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus that carries a similar pricing. On AnTuTu, the Meizu M6S that is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7872 has scored higher than the Redmi 5 Plus that is powered by Snapdragon 625.

In the below image, the average AnTuTu score is shown on the left side whereas the benchmarking score of Meizu M6S is on the right. The Meizu M6S and Redmi 5 Plus have respectively scored 88133 and 76192 on AnTuTu.

The Snapdragon 625 is an 14nm chipset features an octa-core processor that includes two quad-core clusters of CortexA52 that delivers a maximum speed of 2.0 GHz along with Adreno 506 graphics. On the other side, the Exynos 7872 is a brand-new chipset from Samsung that has arrived first on the Meizu M6S. It is also a 14nm chipset that features a hexa-core processor that includes two cores of Cortex A73 that clocks at 2.0 GHz and four cores of Cortex A53 that works at 1.6 GHz. It includes Mali-G71 graphics.

The Snapdragon 625 is well-known for its efficiency. However, by looking at the AnTuTu scores of Meizu M6S and Redmi 5 Plus it can be understood that when it comes to performance, the Exynos 7872 seems to be a better performing chipset.

The Meizu M6S will be officially available for buying starting from Jan. 19. Its base model featuring 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage and high version that includes 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage are respectively priced at 999 Yuan (~$155) and 1,199 Yuan (~$186) in China. On the other side, the Redmi 5 Plus variants with 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage and 4 GB + 64 GB storage are available in the country with respective pricing of 999 Yuan (~$155)  and 1,299 Yuan (~$201).

In 2014, Xiaomi released the Redmi Note – a bigger and more powerful version of the original Redmi released in 2013. In the following years, each Redmi version has always launched with a “Note” variant.  However, that will not be the case for the Redmi 5.

According to a super moderator (mitch002) on the MIUI Forum, Xiaomi will not be releasing a Redmi Note 5. Instead the Redmi Note 4’s successor will be the full-screen Redmi 5 Plus which already launched earlier this month.

Fans have been looking forward to a Redmi Note 5 which is expected to come with the same 5.99-inch FHD+ display as the Redmi 5 Plus but a Snapdragon 660 or at least Snapdragon 630 chipset.

Unfortunately, they will be disappointed to learn that it is the Redmi 5 Plus with the same Snapdragon 625 processor as the Redmi Note 4 (Redmi Note 4X).

There have been complaints over Xiaomi’s continuous use of the Snapdragon 625 processor for its mid-range phones. It didn’t make use of the Snapdragon 652 and 653 chips, it also seems to not find the Snapdragon 626 interesting. Now it appears the Snapdragon 630 and 636 will not power any of the 5th generation Redmi phones too.

Xiaomi has not released an official statement yet on the matter, so this may turn out to be false after all.

Xiaomi has finally unveiled the highly anticipated Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones through its launch event in Beijing, China. The Redmi 5 duo are the first Redmi series phone from the company to arrive with full screen design.

Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus Design

The backside of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus sports the familiar three-stage design found on other Redmi phones. These phones feature full metallic body and they will be available in the market in four color options such as Gold, Rose Gold, Blue and Black.  The Redmi 5 measures 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7mm and it weighs 157 grams whereas the dimensions of the Redmi 5 Plus are 158.8 x 75.45 x 8.05mm and its weight is 179.5 grams.

The full screen design enabled Redmi 5 duo do not feature capacitive touch buttons. It means users can make use of the on-screen buttons for navigation. A fingerprint scanner can be found on the back panel of both phones. According to Xiaomi, it has left enough bezels around the display to ensure that the high screen to body ratio doesn’t translate into a fragile display.

Redmi 5 Specifications

The Redmi 5 that houses a 5.7-inch display carries support for HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Snapdragon 450 chipset that comprises of a 1.8 GHz octa-core processor and Adreno 506 graphics is present under the hood of the Redmi 5. It includes a battery of 3,300mAh battery.

Xiaomi is expected to launch new full-screen smartphones under the Redmi line very soon. Fans of the brand have been eager to get their hands on the devices following their appearance on TENAA but they still haven’t been officially released. Fresh details have surfaced explaining the reason for the delay.

According to the source, Xiaomi’s CEO and founder, Lei Jun initially released a statement attributing the delay to the desire to meet a certain level of stock before release. Once again, new renders of the Redmi 5 Plus have appeared online and it shows what the front and rear views would look like. We can’t verify the authenticity of the leak but it bears semblance with the previously leaked real photos of the Redmi 5 Plus.

One major highlight we can pick up from the latest renders remains the full-screen design the device is said to feature. While there are still doubts in some quarters if Xiaomi will completely overhaul the Redmi series with the adoption of a full-screen design, there is a strong likelihood that would be the case. The barrage of leaks pointing at a full-screen design could well have confirmed the Redmi 5 Plus’ design.

Apart from the display design, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is also seen to have a dual camera setup at the rear which is aligned in the vertical direction. The rear design looks very much like that of the Mi Note 3, except that it packs a  dual camera setup with the LED flash located under the camera. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Specs wise, the Redmi 5 Plus is said to feature a Snapdragon 625/630 processor backed by a 3GB RAM while there will be a 32GB of internal storage. There may likely be another high memory variant. There is no word yet as to when the Redmi-series models would be launched but that won’t be too far away.

Recent reports have spilled a lot of information on the rumored Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. Now, the rumor mill has leaked some interesting information on the Redmi 5 phone.

According to a Chinese publication, MDT1 and MDE1 Xiaomi phones that were previously spotted on China’s TENAA certification body have received 3C certification. The 3C certification of MDT1 and MDE1 have revealed that these Xiaomi devices will carry support for 5V/2A charging. Also, they will be supporting all the carriers in China. The publication claims that these phones that are being manufactured by Wing Tech ODM may launch as Redmi 5.

The report continues to mention that it has a 5.7-inch display that supports HD+ resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels along with support for 18:9 aspect ratio. It is speculated to be driven by Snapdragon 450. It features a front camera of 6-megapixel and a rear camera of 8-megapixel.

There seems to be some discrepancies in the aforementioned specs for Redmi 5 because Redmi series have always featured 5-inch displays. Hence, the rumored Redmi 5 may continue to house a 5-inch screen. As previous reports have claimed, the Redmi 5 Plus may arrive with a 5.7-inch full screen display and it speculated to arrive with 13-megapixel dual rear cameras. It is expected to be available with a starting price of 999 Yuan (~$151).

The base model of the Redmi 5 is likely to cost 799 Yuan (~$121) and it is pegged to feature 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. On the other hand, the higher variant may house 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage and it may carry a price tag of 899 Yuan (~$136).

November 11 is a popular day for e-commerce in China and it is known as Double 11 (11.11) and ahead of the deal day, several mobile phone manufacturers are quietly preparing for one last push to grab some of the market shares. Xiaomi is frantically preparing for the day, with the realization that a good outing during 11.11 would see it hit the 100 million mark in terms of shipment this year.  The tech company dubbed “Apple of China” is preparing to release up to three models including the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. Both models have made the rounds in leaks and rumours lately and we still keep getting more. Right now, a couple of real-life photos said to be those of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus have appeared online.

The Redmi 5 Plus may likely be the first model Xiaomi will release ahead of the double 11 sales promotion. The device promises to be a hot selling one considering the unique design. For the first time, Xiaomi is bringing the full-screen design to the budget segment. The Redmi 5 Plus features an 18: 9 aspect ratio with ultra-thin bezels at all four sides. There is no capacitive home button onboard due to the high screen-to-body ratio.

The rear design looks very much similar to Xiaomi’s first dual camera smartphone – the Redmi Pro released last year. It packs a dual camera setup aligned vertically. Just under the cameras lie the LED flash and thereafter you get the fingerprint sensor. The Redmi 5 Plus will likely be bigger in size. It is tipped as packing a 5.99-inch display with 2160 x 1080p (FHD+) resolution which effectively means it will have an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is also expected to pack a Snapdragon 625 chip but there are talks of a Snapdragon 450 onboard. The device will come in two versions with 3GB RAM and 4GB RM respectively. The dual cameras are said to be a 12MP+ 5MP combination. The Redmi 5 Plus lower version may be the one with a D 450 chip and it may come with a 720p resolution but 18:9 aspect ratio (HD+). The lower version may likely come as cheap as 799 Yuan. These are just speculation, though, the actual details would be outed when Xiaomi takes the wrap off the device.

The above invitation that carries a hashtag #YourBestSelf does not reveal the name of the smartphone that Xiaomi will be launching on Nov. 2 in New Delhi, India. However, it certainly confirms “a new series is coming.” It appears that the new smartphone that will be unveiled on Nov. 2 will be coming with front-facing LED flash for shooting high quality selfies in dim-light conditions.

Xiaomi began the year 2017 in India with the launch of Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4 smartphones. Later on, it had also released other phones like Mi Max 2, Mi A1 Android One phone and Mi MIX 2 flagship phone. It seems the company is all set to end the year with remarkable sales record by releasing the new series of selfie-centric phones.

Recent rumors have revealed that Xiaomi will be soon introducing new Redmi and Redmi Note phones with full screen design before the end of 2017. The Redmi Note 5 is speculated to launch in December, but fresh information suggests that the two Redmi phones that were approved by TENAA could be the two variants of the upcoming Redmi 5 Plus that are likely to launch before Nov. 11.

A Xiaomi phone with model number MEG7 has been certified by Taiwan’s NCC.  However, we could not find the document that linked the Redmi 5 Plus to that model number. After searching for the certification, we could only find the following image which reveals that the MEG7 model will launch as Redmi 5 Plus.

TENAA, China’s certification body, had recently approved two Xiaomi devices with model numbers MEE7 and MET7.  Since the MEG7 model is approved as Redmi 5 Plus by NCC, it appears that MEE7 and MET7 are the two variants of Redmi 5 Plus for China. The MEE7 is rumored as a Redmi 5 Plus variant that will be exclusive to China Mobile. The MET7 is speculated to support all the carriers in China.

According to the TENAA listing of both phones, these devices will feature 5.99-inch screens that carry support for full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It appears that these devices will offer an aspect ratio of 18:9.

The Redmi 5 Plus models will be driven by 2 GHz octa-core processor. Some sources claim that they may be fueled by Snapdragon 625 chipset, but there is possibility that these phones may feature the Snapdragon 450 chipset. These devices are preloaded with Android 7.1.2 Nougat. For photography, these phones are expected to feature a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. Both phones are pegged to feature 4,000mAh capacity batteries.

The only major difference between the MEE7 and MET7 devices is that the former features 3 GB of RAM + 32 GB of storage and the latter has 4 GB of RAM + 64 GB of storage. These variants are speculated to launch with respective pricing of 999 Yuan (~$150) and 1,299 Yuan (~$195).

Nov. 11 is Singles’ Day in China and it is the biggest online shopping festival in the country. Previous reports have revealed that the company is looking forward to making the most of the upcoming shopping festival by launching the Redmi 5 Plus before Nov. 11. The company has reportedly prepared plenty of stock of the smartphone as it is expected to encounter huge demand.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun had recently claimed the company is targeting to ship at least 90 million units in this year. Since the company is speculated to unleash its highly affordable budget phones with full screen design before the end of 2017, it appears that it won’t be too difficult for it fulfill its goal.

Xiaomi is gearing up to release its first affordable full-screen smartphone. A few days ago, two Redmi phones were seen on TENAA, differing only in their memory configuration. New details have surfaced and they mention a third full-screen phone.

According to the source, the three full-screen Redmi phones are the Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus, and the Redmi Note 5. All three phones will have an 18:9 display but will differ with respect to screen size and internal configuration.

One of the phones will have a 5.5” HD+ display which we presume is the Redmi 5. The other two will have 5.9” FHD+ displays just like the ones on TENAA.

The source also says that the difference (in addition to the screen) between the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will be the storage configuration. The Redmi 5 will have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage while the Plus variant will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Redmi 5 Plus will also be powered by a Helio P25 SoC and have a ¥1099(~$165) price.

If you are familiar with Xiaomi, you should know things will be more complicated than that. The Redmi 5 Plus will most likely have a 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM variant too and also get a Snapdragon-powered variant.

For the Redmi Note 5, the source says it will have the new Snapdragon 636 SoC on board. RAM will be 3GB paired with 32GB of built-in storage. The Note 5 is expected to cost as much as ¥1599 (~$240).

There is also a leaked screenshot that talks about the production schedule for the phones and hints at a December release date.

All these new details are unconfirmed by the way, so we suggest you take them with a pinch of salt. The only confirmed full-screen phones at the moment are the Redmi MEE7 and Redmi MET7 which have already been certified by TENAA.

Even though the Redmi Note 5 has recently appeared on Geekbench with an aging Snapdragon 617 chipset, it seems that there is some error with the listing as it is pegged to be fueled by SD 630 SoC.

As previous reports have revealed, the Redmi Note 5 models may arrive with 5.65-inch FHD+ display from Pegasus that will deliver an aspect ratio of 18:9. It will not only sport full screen design, but also feature dual rear cameras with 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel sensors. The rear side of the Note 5 will also include a fingerprint reader.

Xiaomi is also rumored to announce a cheap full screen design phone called Redmi 5 Plus before 11/11. It is likely to feature a 5.7-inch display that will support 720 pixels. It may feature Snapdragon 450 chipset. Speculations are rife that it will be coming with a price tag of 799 Yuan (~$120).

The Redmi Note 5A is the only phone from the 5th generation Redmi line that has been released. However, we have seen a couple more models get certified at the FCC and TENAA. Popular leaker, Roland Quandt whose previous leaks have turned out to be genuine took to Twitter to release details of some new models.

According to him, there will be a Redmi 5A with 16GB of built-in storage. The device will be available in rose gold, gold, black. and grey. The Redmi 5A already appeared on TENAA and specs revealed does confirm a 16GB model with 2GB of RAM in  addition to a 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM model.

Roland Quandt also mentions a Redmi 5 which will come in 16GB and 32GB storage variants. It will be available in gold and black.

Another model mentioned is the Redmi 5 Plus which will come in 32GB and 64GB variants. Available colors will be gold, black, and grey.

These phones will be available internationally including select markets in Europe says Quandt. Xiaomi already entered some new markets with its Android One phone, the Mi A1. It is good to know that it will be joined by other models too.

Xiaomi has recently launched the Mi MIX 2 and Mi Note 3 smartphones and it seems that the company is soon going to unveil its upcoming Redmi 5 and Redmi Note 5 series of smartphones. An image of the Redmi 5 Plus has surfaced on Weibo. However, the image does not show the actual handset, but it looks like a closeup shot of the box package or a poster of Redmi 5 Plus.

The Redmi 5 Plus moniker suggests that it could be an advanced edition of Redmi 5. Since Xiaomi had released Redmi 4A has a lower variant of the Redmi 5, the company is likely to launch Redmi 5A also this year alongside Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. The Redmi 5A has been allegedly spotted on TENAA’s site which suggests that the company may soon debut the Redmi 5 series in China.
